Now, open your Bible to the Book of Revelation chapter 3 and join us for Dr. Lynchcombe’s teaching for today. So here it says, what shall it profit a man if he shall gain that has to do with profit or things you earn, if you gain the whole world and that it says you lose your own soul. And because it says soul, a lot of preachers have got this wrong and they’ll preach this for salvation and say, what have you gained the whole world and yet you went to hell?
That’s not what it’s talking about here, but it’s saying here, what will you trade for your life? If you got the whole world and your life ended as a Christian, you would suffer an eternity of loss because you did nothing that was worthy of reward. And so what will you give in exchange? In the Bible we have different ones who’ve sold out Tucci. You remember Esau? He sold out his spiritual birthright, println thinking it of much value. He was a man of the moment, a man of satisfying the lust of his flesh.
He was hungry. He comes in and he’s willing to trade his whole spiritual birthright for just a bowl of chili or little soup or whatever it was. But later he regretted it, but it was too late. And he forfeited really what he could have had. And there are many in the Bible that have been examples of that where they sold out cheap. How about you? What about your life? What are you selling out for? Because whatever you replace serving the Lord with is whatever you have then placed an exchange for what God would like to reward you for having spent your life for him.
So it says, what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose or forfeit or have his life count for nothing in eternity when God wants to reward you? Or verse 37, or what shall a man give an exchange for his soul? What is it? Paul has a wonderful formula over in He says, for me to live is Christ and to die as gain. The word gain is used here, isn’t it? If you gain the whole world.
For me to live as Christ Paul said and to die as gain in Philippians chapter one. And what if you changed that? Well, if you put anything else in there, for me to live as sports, or for me to live as my career, or for me to live as television, or soap operas, or whatever you put in their fishing, or whatever you like to do, If that’s the main trust of your life, then the die would be lost. But Paul said for me to live as Christ, and to die is going to be gained.
So if we live for Christ, then when we die we’ll have gain. If we live for other things and we’ll suffer loss. That we could have had if we’d only lived for Christ here. And that’s what Christ is saying here in this whole passage. He’s not talking about loss of salvation. He’s talking about what is the perspective of your life. And that doesn’t mean you have to change careers. You know, everybody can be a witness for Christ in whatever vocation God has called you to.
If you were in that vocation, certainly you can be a witness for Christ. And I talk to people every day that use their job and they have opportunity. They don’t, you know, preach all day long, but they use opportunities they have to proclaim Christ and obviously God uses you in your vocation, whatever it might be. But not everybody is meant to be the pastor or a full-time Christian worker in that sense. But I love the perspective of some in the past that have been great businessmen as well as soul winners.
of armor meets one time was interviewed about his profession and he said I’m a full-time witness for Jesus Christ that I packed pork on the side to meet my expenses. I love that. Wouldn’t it be great if we could say that about whatever our job is? I’m a full-time whatever. I’m a witness for Christ but I do this other as a means of taking care of my expenses as I live for Christ. And obviously he did quite well in the meat business and everybody knows Mr.
Armour’s name. Well, this is what Christ is talking about here. And in verse 38, here we have the two points that we saw in the book of Revelation with the church of Philadelphia. Whosoever, therefore, shall be what? A shamed of me and of my words. What was true about the church of Philadelphia was the opposite. They were not ashamed of his name. They kept his name and they kept his word. And here it talks about if you’re going to be ashamed of my name, ashamed of me, and of my words, the Word of God, in the sinful, adulterous and sinful generation, of him shall also the Son of man be ashamed when he comes back.
And so wouldn’t you rather have the Lord say I’m proud of you? And you did a good job and reward you for faithful service, then to have him say I’m ashamed because you were ashamed of me. You didn’t keep my word and you didn’t speak up and proclaim my name. And obviously the New Testament is talking about how we ought to be aware of the fact that we’re going to give an account one day, even 2 Timothy 2, 15, which is a great verse most Christians have heard it study to show yourself what, approved.
And it says not for salvation, but as a workman that does not have to be ashamed. And it’s talking about one day we’re going to give an account as workmen. And if we don’t study the word to know what we are to do when we work, then we’ll stand before God one day ashamed because we will not have done what He wanted us to do. So that’s what He’s talking about here. And you’ll notice that throughout the Bible you’re going to find these two things seem to be such a simple formula to success.
It wasn’t that they were strong and they had very little strength that says there in Revelation Chapter 3 verse 8, but they did two things that were significant. Let’s go back here and we’ll take a look at it again. And it says here, Thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. You do those two things, and God is going to bless you. And you don’t have to have a lot of strength.
You may say, how in the world can I accomplish much for God? And I think we can all feel that way. But God uses us with our limitations, with our handicaps, and everything. And he glories in doing that. Moses had a speech problem. And when God said, I want you to be my spokesman, he said, Lord, I have a speech problem. I’m not eloquent. How can I go into your spokesman? And of course, God told Moses in Exodus chapter 4, oh, I forgot all about that.
No, he said, who made you Moses? Who made your mouth? I’m fully aware of your limitations and your handicap, but I still want you to go as my spokesperson. But Moses was trying to opt out and all of us have our excuses. And you might say, well, how in the world could I ever be used of God? And the answer is if you do these two things, you’ll be surprised to see how God can use you. He can use you in a wonderful way.
Keep his word. Stay with the Bible. And then don’t deny his name. Don’t hedge. person that you’re a believer in Jesus Christ, as you have opportunity. And again, of course, we’re talking about not running around all day long with a big placard or big sign on your back. I think sometimes those people turn people away. But to be wise and to use opportunities when a conversation arises, to be able to tell somebody plainly what the Bible says about Christ.
Verse 9 of Revelation 3, it says, Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, and by the way, the modern word would be church. There are churches really that Satan really has control over. The gospel is not there, the people are not saved. I was raised in a church like that where my pastor was not saved and I don’t think anybody in the church was saved. I’m really so grateful that I’ve found the gospel through my sister.
In that church, I would have never found it. And that’s so sad because there are many like that where you can go and you’ll have to say, as somebody once said, in spite of my church, I got saved. In spite of it, because if you sat there and just paid attention to all that the church taught you, you probably wouldn’t get saved because some of them just don’t have the message and they don’t know how to be saved. So this is, I’ll make of them, I’ll make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, the modern term would be Christians because all the other Christians were Jews.
It says here, which say they are Jews and they’re not, but do lie. There’s a lot of folks that say, yeah, I’m a Christian. And they’re not. I don’t ever ask that question anymore. Are you a Christian? Because why? They say they are and then you have to prove them wrong and prove them to be a liar. So it’s the wrong way to approach it. So I always ask the question, were you going to go when you die or are you sure of eternal life?
But don’t bring up the thing Christian because at least in this country for the most part, most everybody thinks that they are a Christian. They say, well, everybody in America is a Christian, aren’t they? If you’re born in America, aren’t you a Christian? Well if you were born in a garage, would that make you an automobile? No, of course not. And a lot of people have that kind of logic that if you’re just born in America, then you’re kind of automatically a Christian because we’re so-called a Christian nation.
But don’t ask that question. You just ask, you know, where are you going to go in your dime, and then you find out whether they’re going to make heaven or not. Thank you for joining us. We’re going to go to Paul and Harbor and there we have Lee on the line. Lee, welcome to Bibleline Good morning. good morning i wanted to ask you two questions the first one i started reading i read decorite last night and uh… it’s hard for me to discern uh… if he’s talking about the return from babylon the exile there or if he’s talking about uh…
the end time that’s my first question that have you read the book uh… are we living in the end times by tim lehay and i just want to hang up and listen to you on radio okay i have i have the book but i haven’t read the book got by tim lehay on are we in the end times It’s probably very good, but I haven’t read it. And on Zechariah, yes they are coming back from the Babylonian captivity, and they’re very discouraged.
They see a destroyed Jerusalem and no temple and so on. And God gives Israel this wonderful, wonderful 14 chapter book that basically says, hey, I have great plans for Jerusalem. And I’m going to rebuild my temple and so on. In chapter two, he begins with a real heads up for Jerusalem. He says, and what a beautiful passage this is in Zechariah chapter two, in verse 10, it says, sing and rejoice. Oh daughter of Zion, for lo I come. That is the second coming.
And that’s an exciting verse, isn’t it? Sing and rejoice, oh daughter of Zion, for lo I come and I will what? Dwell in the midst of the saith the Lord. The Lord is going to come back and that’s Jesus. And Jesus will come back and he’s actually going to rule and reign over the earth from Jerusalem. He says, I come and I will dwell in the midst of the, this is exciting. And we find here that the Lord of course will inherit Judah his portion in the Holy Land and he shall choose Jerusalem again.
Verse 12. And then it says, Beest, O all flesh before the Lord, for he is raised up out of his holy habitation. we have God coming back to the earth to rule and to reign in the person of Jesus Christ, and Zecharab begins very early, in fact even in chapter 1, but chapter 2 has this wonderful passage. Yes, they came back and it didn’t look really encouraging when they saw what they were facing back in those days, but God told Israel, don’t give up hope.
The day is coming, sing and rejoice because he’s going to come and he will dwell in the midst of the Jewish people and he will rule them from Jerusalem. And let me give you a couple of good verses to write down while you’re writing things down. John 637, Jesus said, this is John 637, Jesus said, Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. There are no exceptions. It says, I will in no wise. That means under no circumstances, in no case, would Christ ever cast out a believer.
In that great, John 637, him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. I’ll never forget talking to a lady who said, Pastor, if you only knew what I did, you would agree with me that God would cast me out. And I said, let’s go back and take a look at the verse again. Him that comes to me, I will in no wise cast out, except they did what you did. I never even asked her what she did.
I said, don’t even tell me. It doesn’t matter. Not there. It says, him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out. There’s no exception clause at the bottom. There’s no exception to it at all. If you come to Christ and have accepted him as Savior and become a believer and a child of God by the new birth receiving Christ as your Savior, you can never be cast out. And then there are those bright people who try to scheme around the verse.
They realize that it’s pretty plain. And they say, well, OK, all right, Christ won’t cast me out. But I can cast myself out. If I don’t want eternal life anymore, I can just run real hard toward the door and slip under the door and whatever. And I can get away. Not possible. John 639, write it down. John 637, now write down John 639. Jesus said, this is the Father’s will, that of all of which you have given me, I should lose none.
N-O-N-E, none. But raise them up again the last day. So if one person, think about this, if one person in all of history were ever lost once they became saved, Jesus would be a liar. The will of God would have been broken. The word of God would be wrong. And we could just light a match to our Bibles and walk away because what could we then depend upon if that were not true? But John 637, write it down, John 639, John 637 Christ would never cast us out for any reason.
John 639, he would not lose one No, not one. I’ve often thought about that and I said, well, you know, if he had said that he would lose one person, I’d have to shudder and shiver and say, oh, maybe, maybe I’m the one he’s going to lose. But, you know, I don’t have to worry because he’s not going to lose any. That means he’s not going to lose me. And if you’re a believer, you’re stuck. You have to go to heaven with you like it or not.
And that’s not a license to sin. sin. In fact, now it gives us freedom to concentrate on living for Christ. And I find that people who understand this message, more of them go forward to serve the Lord than those who are under the threat of losing their salvation. And of course those who are under the threat of losing their salvation, if that’s what they are trusting in to get them to have and they’re really trusting in their works, they’re really saying that their faithfulness, their dependability, their obedience is going to get them to heaven one day.
And that’s works my friend and they are not saved. We’re going to Tom in Riverview. Tom, welcome to Babylon. Thank you, sir. Good to talk with you again. Thank you. Quick question for you. And I understand the reference you made to Revelation 320 and how that is wrong we used as an invitation to salvation verse. I agree with that. But something that you often say about asking Jesus to come into our heart and again your time into the study of God word far seats mine and I wouldn’t challenge you on that.
But I would ask you if you could to give me within the context of its setting Galatians chapter 4 and verse 6 where the Paul under the expression of the Holy Spirit makes the reference to the spirit of Lord Jesus Christ coming into their heart. Could you do that for me and I’ll hang up and listen on the radio because I can hear you better. Thank you. I’ll do that, Tom. Thank you. And this is Galatians chapter four in verse six where it says, and because your sons got had sent forth the spirit of his son into your hearts.
One of the problems is here is that the word heart is unfortunately used. The Greek word really means the center of your thought processes. Back in 1611, they didn’t know as much as we know today and they thought really that your thought processes apparently took place in your heart. And we have the derivatives of that to this very day where you might tell someone, I love you with all my heart. Well, you don’t really love somebody with your heart, but it’s certainly not very romantic to tell the one you love, I love you with all my brain.
That just doesn’t seem to get it romantically. I can’t imagine a young man now on his date and saying, darling, I love you with all my brain. We have gotten into that mindset because of the beliefs of the 1611 era and how that got into the King James. But it is true that as a consequence of salvation that God the Holy Spirit comes and dwells in our bodies. And also that Christ dwells in us, according to Colossians chapter one verse 28, and that our bodies become the temple of the Holy Spirit so God himself dwells in us.
And so we really have the whole of the Godhead dwelling within us once we become saved. But it’s a consequence of salvation and not the means of salvation. In other words, when we trust Christ as Savior, there’s about, I listed on a sheet that I wrote about 39 things that happened that are consequences. The fact that I am placed into Christ’s body is also equally true and happens at the same moment. So imagine this, at the same moment you believe or the same instant you believe, you and I are placed into the body of Christ.
at the same time he comes and dwells in our body. So both happen. So I don’t understand why there’s more focus on inviting Christ into our body than there is to request to be placed into his body because both are true, both are consequences, both are just a few of the many many consequences that happen as a result of trusting Christ but they are not the means of being saved. So you can ask him to come into your life and go to hell.
You must trust Christ and then he automatically does come in. But I’ve never heard any preacher say, get into the body of Christ. Get into the body of Christ. If you want to be saved, you have to get into the body of Christ. Now, tonight is your opportunity to get into the body of Christ. Would you get into the body of Christ right here tonight as we give the invitation? I never hear preachers do that. And yet there’s more focus in the New Testament on us being placed into Christ’s body than there is on the fact that he comes and dwells in our body.
many more verses deal with that. But there are simply consequences. It’s just like going to heaven or hell. You might say, God, I want to go to heaven, but you can say that you want to go to heaven. Pleeved with God to take you to heaven, weep and nash your teeth, pull your hair out, but you’ll go to hell unless you trust that Christ died for your sins. Going to heaven is a consequence of believing, of trusting Christ. And not going to hell is also a consequence.
So you can say, God, oh, I don’t want to go to hell. Oh, I don’t want to go to hell. And God, I don’t want to go to hell. And we could say that every day, all day long, and still go to hell. Because that will not prevent us from going to hell. Not going to hell is, again, one of those many consequences of trusting Christ as our Savior. And the problem about the heart is, again, a problem with what was believed in 1611 about thought processes.
Thought processes obviously take place in the brain and in our mind. And it’s certainly something that we still have with us from the 1611 era that we talk about believing with our heart or loving with our heart and all those things today we know are certainly not true. The heart is a pumping organ and everybody knows that today but yet we still venture back into those things. And I think we confuse children and what I’m doing is trying to plead for the souls of boys and girls and adults that are told to do something that’s not scriptural when the answer is so simple that It’s as simple as John 3 16 that who so ever be leeveth that Greek word means to trust if you would trust in Christ that you would not perish but you’d have eternal life.
And Tom, thanks for bringing that up. I hope that helped a little bit. But I know that for myself that was a problem because I had been raised with that. And also it just doesn’t make any sense. It’s like the one little boy said, how will Jesus fit in my heart? You know, he knew that the heart was pretty small. And how would Jesus fit? Then he also said, well, won’t Jesus get all bloody? Because he knew his heart was a pumping organ.
And you know, kids are smarter than adults sometimes. And obviously, he figured out that that just didn’t make any sense at all, and it doesn’t. But truly, Christ does come. Our bodies become his temple. And God draws in us. The Bible says Christ draws in us. Colossians 128. Also, the Holy Spirit, as you pointed out, Tom in relations 4, 6, comes to and draw our bodies once it become safe and that’s a wonderful, wonderful truth. Thank you Tom for that good thought you brought.

Hank Lindstrom. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. To pledge your support for Bibleline, give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. 1-800-576-3771. Jesus Christ, when He was crucified, was then buried for 72 hours and then… He rose again from the dead and then the Bible tells us that he showed himself alive for 40 days for 40 days and People saw him they touched him they handled him they knew that he had risen from the dead and this obviously is what transformed the apostles Into the dynamic witnesses that he became as they took the gospel everywhere in the world at that time And you know Paul, as he witnessed, told the story of the death, the burial, the resurrection from the Old Testament, because the New Testament was not yet written.
And if you turn in your Bibles to Acts 17, you find how Paul would normally operate. It says in verse 1 of Acts 17, now when they were passed through empiphilus and Epilonia, They came to Thessalonica where was a synagogue of the Jews. And Paul, verse 2 of Acts 17, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures. Verse 3, opening and alleging that Christ must needs have suffered and risen again from the dead, and that this Jesus whom I preach unto you is Christ.
What a great passage. The scriptures that Paul opened up here to these people in Thessalonica was the Old Testament scriptures. And notice what it says that he did. He reasoned with them out of the scriptures, that’s the Old Testament. At this time the New Testament was not yet written, Acts 17, verse 2, and then it says verse 3, opening and alleging that Christ must needs have what suffered and risen again from the dead. And that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
And you’ll notice verse 4, and some of them believe. Not everybody Paul talked to, trusted the Lord, but some of them did. And you know that’s an encouragement for all of us who attempt to witness to others, to our family and to loved ones. Don’t give up. But Paul here preached that Christ was the Messiah, that the Old Testament Scriptures had foretold that he would suffer and die, and then be risen again from the dead. that this Jesus was indeed the Savior, the Messiah that the prophets had told would come, and some of them believed.
And then we find in verse 5 it talks about another group, but the Jews which believed not, moved within me, took unto them certain people of the Baster Sword and they really caused a riot here in Thessalonica. Well you know what is interesting is that there are two groups mentioned here and you see it throughout the Bible. There are those that believe and there are those that believe not. All believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. By the way, the word believe really the best English word means to trust T-R-U-S-T-Trust.
And then there are those who do not believe and every unbeliever will wind up according to the Bible in hell and there is no other place to go. You either go to heaven or you go to hell and it’s all determined by one of that you believe. Well, you know, it’s throughout the Bible that you have these two different groups. In the Old Testament, you’ll find many times it talks about He talks about the righteous, which are the believers, because nobody is righteous of his own works.
Every one of us are standing before God in our own works if we are without Christ. And the Bible says that our best works and righteous deeds are filthy rags in God’s sight. And so the unbeliever is described in the Bible as being the wicked. Even though they might be very moral, they might be your best neighbor, they might go to church, they might carry their Bible. But if they haven’t trusted Christ, the Bible says they are wicked. This says here in Malachi in chapter 3, in verse 18, a very interesting verse.
It talks about the Jewish people, then shall you return and discern. Most people can’t do this, and discern between the righteous and the wicked. Now the righteous are the believers and the wicked are the unbelievers, and sometimes it’s difficult to tell which is which. But you know, the only real sure way of telling between the believer and the unbeliever, the righteous and the wicked is to ask them, what are you trusting in to get you to heaven? And if they’re trusting in their works, keeping the commandments, living the Christian life, water baptism, church membership, the mass, penance, prayers, whatever they might be trusting in, then they’re not saved.
Because salvation is not by works. It’s by trusting in what Jesus accomplished for us at the cross. It’s not based upon what we do for God or what works we accomplish. It’s all based upon the finished work at the cross of Calvary that paid for the sins of the whole world. We’re going to rejoin stations that have been on break into the second half hour by the land. Please make plans to join us and open your Bible as we also present in-depth studies covering a variety of biblical topics. Now let’s return to our question and answer segment and then we’ll hear more Bible teaching from Dr.
Hank Lindstrom. Let me go to the phone lines we have Jim in Tampa, what do you want to learn Jim? Welcome to Bible lines. Thank you Dr. Hank Lindstrom. I wanted to say that you do a great job and listen to you all the time and really thankful that you’re on the air. So there? Yeah, thank you for that compliment. Okay, I wanted to ask you, I don’t have it in the farming and I apologize for that, but in the book of Genesis they’re about the, something about the angels of men marrying the daughter.
I’m sure I just butchered it horribly. It’s in the book of Genesis. It’s some… Right, it’s Genesis chapter six and it doesn’t talk about angels. talks about the sons of God. Yes, but not fearing the daughters of men. Yeah, what does all that exactly mean? And I’m going to hang up and just listen to you. And I asked some people at church, but they, I don’t know sure I understood what they told me. So I’m just going to hang up and listen to you.
That’d be great. All right. That was Jim and Tampa. And you know, in Genesis chapter 6 where it says, as it describes the days of Noah, it says the sons of God. Now I believe that this is talking about believers, just as in the New Testament, it tells us in John 1, 12 to as many as would receive Christ to them God gave the authority for them to become the sons of God. So we become born again, we become a child of God at the moment we trust Jesus Christ as our Savior.
And the sons of God here are believers and what they wind up doing is marrying unbelievers, which by the way, believers are not to marry unbelievers, and it’s for this very reason, because obviously the home was a place where the gospel was to be spread through the family members and through the children down to the next generation. And so what happened here is that the gospel became lost, as the families were not retaining that Christian belief system, and the whole world became corrupted except for one family.
Some people try to say the sons of God are angels, but let me give you a cross-reference. I hope everybody is ready with their pen. Mark it down. Hebrews 1-5, which says unto which of the angels did God at any time say, Thou art my son. The implied answer is he never did. God never called an angel his son. That’s Hebrews 1-5. So that should end the story. Thus Matthew 22.30 tells us that angels don’t marry. And here we have the sons of God marrying the daughters of men.
And in addition, the phrase daughters of men or sons of men is used throughout the Bible to describe people who don’t know the Lord as their Savior. In Psalm 14 and Psalm 51 and other passages, it talks about the sons of men or the daughters of men as those that know not the Lord and those that do not call upon His name. Now we know that the way we’ve become saved, as it says in Romans 10-13, Who’s Whoever Shall Call Upon The Name Of The Lord Shall Be Saved?
So if you don’t call upon the Lord, then obviously you’re not saved. So what we have here is believers marrying unbelievers and the world became corrupted and the flood obviously became the judgment that God brought and only Noah and his family and all the animals that were in the ark survived and we’re all really wind up that we’re descendants of Noah. We’re going to a phone call in, this is Jim over in Lakeland, Florida and Jim, welcome to Bible Un.
Thank you, sir. I know if I might call it too often, but you always spark an interest in something that I’ve wondered about it, the discussion about the Jewish people is one of them. and I’d also like to hang up and listen to your discourse on this as well. I’ve often wondered where is it documented in the Bible of the rejection, the very first rejection of Jesus being the Messiah by the Jewish people. All right. You mean as he went through his earthly ministry when they began to reject him?
Yes. Okay. Thank you. All right. Go through the book of Matthew. It seems when you get to About chapter 12 is where things begin to turn against the Lord Jesus Christ. I’m going to turn to chapter 16 where it says here that he had gone up into Galilee, up into the coast of Caesarea Philippi. That’s way up in northern Israel, even to this very day. And here he announces because he began to be rejected around chapter 12 of the Book of Matthew.
Matthew. It says in verse 21 of chapter 16 of Matthew, from that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples how that he must go unto Jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and be raised again the third day. So at this point, Jesus begins to tell them that he’s now on a course headed toward the cross of Calvary, where he would give his life for the Jews and for the Gentiles for all of mankind, that all that would believe on him would not perish, but they would have everlasting life.
So we find that he is rejected from about chapter 12 on. And we see that whether they began to object, he healed on the Sabbath day in the beginning of chapter 12. And they immediately want to make a case and come against him. It says in verse 14 of chapter 12, the Pharisees then went out and held a council against him how that they might destroy him. And that’s the turning point. And then we see that as we go along here, that it continues that way, as he points out again and again that he becomes rejected.
And we find here that he returns to Nazareth in chapter 13 at at the end of it and he is rejected there. And even his own brothers and sisters, half brothers and half sisters, the natural children of Mary and Joseph rejected him. And it was kind of interesting, isn’t it? Because a lot of people don’t even realize that Mary and Joseph had children, natural children, after Jesus had been born. Four boys are named by name and at least two girls are mentioned.
they had at least six natural children, whereas the Roman Catholic Church wrongly teaches that Mary was perpetually a virgin and never had any children or had any sexual relationship with Joseph. That’s certainly not true. And you don’t have to read very far into the New Testament to find out that doctrine is totally wrong. In fact, a lot of teaching about Mary is wrong. And Mary certainly is not the mediator, the one that can be prayed to, but yet so many of the Catholic programs deal with praying to Mary.
Anyway, let me just say that the turning point was Matthew chapter 12 and you can see that and then we find in chapter 16, Jesus then from that time forth began to tell his disciples, for warn them that he was headed on a collision course with going to Jerusalem and there he would be rejected and there he would be crucified and he would be buried and he would rise again from the dead. So that’s exciting and Jim I hope that helped on that question and God bless.
Jose welcome to Babylon. Yes hi how you doing this morning? All right. Hey just wanted to give you a quick comment and a question about God visiting. Normally well when I when I look at not doing something like that coming down to visit and you know literally checking things out making his presence down he doesn’t do that for his benefit I think he does it for our benefit. Exactly exactly I would agree with that hundred percent yeah we’re the ones who are limited though he will according to what he thinks better benefit us uh…
you know communication you know he’ll he’ll make a presence and i know you know absolutely you know and he he loves us and obviously in the garden he walked in the garden in a human body right and and fellowship with man until man sinned and then Obviously God with through his presence a man was separated from God which is what spiritual death is all about and then we find that man was expelled from the garden but truly from the very beginning we see God making appearances as he directly wants to be involved in our lives and is concerned about our eternal future.
Exactly. And I used to really think long and hard about the salvation process. And you make this point really clear and you also stick by this point that you have to be saved before you pass away. And I’m thinking to myself, well, how can that be physically possible for people like in the deep parts of China or India where it’s just totally Hindu or something like that. I think to myself, well you know there’s one example where Pharaoh was visited by God because of a situation that occurred with Abraham and Abraham’s wife.
And I think that before an individual died sometime in that 60, 70, 80 years. You know, process. God makes if no one, none of us do, no one who saves, you know, no one who’s sharing the gospel makes a personal visit. God himself will make a personal visit. I don’t know if I would agree with that, but certainly he’ll send somebody. The Bible says in Jeremiah 2913, and you shall seek me and find me when you shall search me with all your heart.
And by the way, there are millions of Christians in China and in India, and we don’t get a lot of publicity on it, but there’s the underground church in the world. very strong in china and people are willing to die for their faith and we’re hearing more and more reports in fact they believe in the soon coming of the lord jesus christ amazingly they believe in the second coming they’re quite amazing how up to speed they are with what’s going on one one more quick question uh…
with uh… uh… this one word about uh… in the new testament uh… that could use every once in a while the word infant bell is that infinite uh… it means an unbeliever that is that count that would also be used for someone to the nadius well of course yeah of course okay to the nadius would be in fidel for sure okay uh… but can’t i mean them is an atheist yeah i guess that okay i’m just thinking a a t his believe that it they don’t believe in god at all and the bible says about a t his that their fools Psalm 14 one says, the fool safety in his heart, there is no God.
So I usually like to tell atheist, casey might be interested all of it, I’m believing God, but God thinks about them that they’re fools. But not all that he exists. Not all infant adults, according to the blind. Not all infant adults are atheists, but infidels reject divine truth and reject God. But the term infant adults It means someone who doesn’t believe and then it can be applied to atheists. But of course, all incidentals are atheists, right? We can’t apply it that way, right?
That’s right. Alright, thank you, Jose. That wraps up today’s question and answer segment. As believers in Jesus, there is no other topic that is more important to us than the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it was Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s mission to spread the gospel. Through your prayers and ongoing financial support for Bibleline, you too can help spread the gospel of Christ throughout the world and reach others with the message of salvation through Jesus. Please, prayerfully consider supporting Bibleline by visiting our website at BibleLineMinistries.org and getting copies of any of our resources, such as Dr.

Here’s more in America than you’re kind of automatically a Christian because we’re so called a Christian nation. But don’t ask that question. You just ask, you know, where are you going to die and then you find out whether you’re going to make heaven or not. So it says here, they would say they are Christians and are not, but do lie.
Behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet and to know that I have loved thee. is that the Reformation churches that we just applauded a moment ago became cold and formal. These individuals that were talking about here of the Philadelphia church time simply went out and people came out of the churches to hear the Men Like the El Mootie, for example, would have these big meetings and people would come out of the churches to hear him and would become saved, whereas he was not necessarily invited to go in those churches.
John Wesley visited his home in London, and there he is a statue of him with him on a horse as he traveled with the horse throughout England to proclaim the gospel. And because the churches became of the Reformation became closed and informal, he said the world is my parishion, so he just went out in the highways and byways. And it was these kinds of people who I think this chapter is talking about where they made a real impact as an individual and guys like Billy Sunday and he was an athlete of a small player and he was the one that really founded the YMCA.
What happened to the YMCA? The C is gone in the YMCA. Where is the proclamation? Proclamation, but he founded it as a way of reaching children and young people through sports and athletics and a good youth program to tell them about Jesus. And that’s the way it founded. It was founded. And lots of people came to know Christ as Savior, those early days. But the why now, I don’t think you could go in and preach Christ in the why today because the sea has been silenced in the YMCA or the, now it was why family.
I don’t know what current names are, but that’s gone. But so here were those who went out and people came out of churches to hear these evangelists and got saved and they had a great response. And whole continents were opened up to the gospel around the world. Verse 10 says, because thou hast kept the word, the word of God, of my patience. I will also keep thee from the hour of temptation, which will come upon all the world to try them that dwell upon the earth.
I believe that’s the tribulation period. And so those of the Philip and Delphiah persuasion, although it pictures to us the 18th and 19th centuries, hopefully we would be like this church and we who hold to the truths of God’s Word and believe on Christ as our Savior and our dead spiritually and not born again in just living a name, but if we have genuinely trusted the Lord, then we’re going to be in this group that will escape this hour of temptation over the tribulation period, which will come upon all the world to try them that develop on the earth.
And so the tribulation period is not in for us. But yet earlier we saw those of a bad persuasion, those of false doctrine, that their descendants would be pushed right into the tribulation period. And there it talks about them also experiencing the second death. I’ll hurt them with death, that they will experience, I believe, being cast into hell because they reject the wonderful truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Verse 11, Jesus says, Behold, I come quickly, hold fast that which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
That’s rewards. And there are five crowns that the believer can earn. We have a sheet in the back called, Getting Your Crown, and I list all five. And each one is for a different thing. The soul winner’s crown, 1 Thessalonians 2 19 and 20. The sufferers crown, James 2 10. The teachers crown, 1 Peter 5 4. The crown for watching for Christ returns 2 Timothy 4 8. And then the crown for keeping your life disciplined and morally pure. 1 Corinthians 9 27, which is the crown incorruptible.
So there are five crowns. And as a believer, we need to stay with the Word of God and not divert. And if we do that and not deny His name, we’ll be able to earn these crowns. Verse 12 says, He did overcome it again. That’s the believer. First John 5, 4 and 5, I hope you memorize those verses or at least mark them in the margin every time you see the Word overcome it says, well, I make a pillar in the temple of my God.
So every one of us will have a significant role in heaven and will be considered pillars. James, the Bible says, was considered a pillar in the early church. He was a key player. And so all of us will be key players in heaven. As we serve the Lord and live for him for all eternity, he says, I’ll make you a pillar in the temple of my God. And you’ll know more go out. Now, I’ll write upon him the name of my God, the name of the city of my God, which is New Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God.
And I will write upon him my new name. So every one of us will experience a lot of fulfillment in eternity as each of us will be major players and will be pillars in his temple. And what is interesting here and also in the earlier promise in verse 17 of chapter 2 is it will be given a new name. As parents, if you are a parent, you have the privilege of naming your children. Your relatives will probably try to advise you, but you have the last say in what your child is called.
And I hear parents and they wrestle over what the child should be called. But mom and dad usually have that final say and they name their child. But guess what? When you become born again, God then as our father for the first time, when we become born into his family as his son or daughter, I believe he gives each of us a brand new name. So he has the privilege of and the right to name us again. So we’ll have a new name and that new name is going to be given to us by the Lord himself and we’ll to be fun to find out what our new name is.
Some apparently on this earth got to know their new name in advance. I’m guessing because Abram was called Abraham. Sarai was called Sarah. Jacob became Israel. Saul became Paul. Maybe those are the new names that they have already gotten. And so we’ll wait and see what it turns out to be for you or for me. But apparently we’ll all be given a new name and God has probably already named us with with our new name and we’ll find it out one day when we’re standing before him what that name is.
So the Lord names his children. We are his children and we’ll have a new name. Verse 13, he did an ethon near, let him hear with the Spirit, say, Thund of the churches. So here again, it’s spiritual hearing to hear the promise that God has given to us that are believers. Now verse 14, we enter the last church age and this is the one we’re living in now. Under the angel of the church in Laodicea. I think I defined in Philadelphia as brotherly love, But that was a church that was loved.
There was no rebuke to the church at Philadelphia. But this last one is the one we’re living in and there is a rebuke to this church. The word laodicea means rights of the people. And how fitting it is that this is the name of this last day church. In our society, we have all kinds of rights being spoken of, don’t we, all the time? Civil rights, children’s rights, senior rights, employees’ rights, and everybody has rights. It carries over into the church and people come into the church and say, I have my rights and I want to be pampered and catered to.
And I want to know what you’re going to do for me when you walk in the door of the church. What has happened to that servant attitude about what can I do for Jesus Christ and how can I be a part of a body of believers that wants to carry this message out into the world and reach the world for Christ? But this is a church that is concerned about self, not about Christ, and you can see it. It’s a materialistic church, not a very spiritual church.
A church that doesn’t have a strong message. It’s lukewarm and rides the fence. It says in verse 14, under the angel, the pastor, the teacher, the leader of the Church of the Laodiceans, right? These things say at the Amen, that’s Christ, the faithful and true witness, that’s Jesus Christ, the beginning of the creation of God. It should read the beginner. He is the Creator. He began the creation. The Jehovah’s Witnesses like to take this and say that he was the first created being, and therefore is not God, but is a created being and they claim he’s Michael the Archangel.
It really means he He is the beginning of the creation of God, and that He began it. He was there at the creation. In John 1.1 it says, in the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. And it says in verse 3, all things were made by Him. And without Him, nothing that is made was made, because He is the Creator. And numerous other verses tell us about Jesus being their president of the creation.
And as all three members of the God had worked in concert to bring about this universe, Jesus was there as the Creator. Hebrews, you see that, you see it also in Colossians, and you see it in John’s Gospel chapter one, and the Jehovah’s Witnesses just don’t get the picture. They try to say he is a created being, and therefore is not God. Thanks for listening to Bible I, with Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Be sure to tune in to another edition of Bibleline from Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida. Salvation is not by works. It’s by trusting in what Jesus accomplished for us at the cross. It’s not based upon what we do for God or what works we accomplish. It’s all based upon the finished work at the cross of Calvary that paid for the sins of the whole world.
And when you trust Christ, you become righteous in God’s sight as God’s righteousness is imputed or credited to your account. And if you’re an unbeliever, then you are remaining wicked or unrighteous and you will not enter heaven based upon the fact you have not trusted Christ. So here Paul, notice, opens up the Scriptures and reasons with these people out of the Bible opening and alleging that Christ must needs have suffered and risen again from the dead and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
Paul always gave the death. The burial and the resurrection of Christ. Modern day preaching is so sloppy you seldom hear it. You have people bypassed across altogether and just say invite Christ into your heart or give your life to Christ. And all these phrases are wrong because they bypassed across plus that’s not the legitimate way to become saved. To become saved you must TTRUSD trust that Christ died and paid for yourself. sins by his death and shed blood and was buried in rose again from the dead unless you trust him.
You know, I went to church for the first 18 years of my life. I was confirmed. I was baptized. I was homogenized, pasteurized, colonized, you name it. I went through it. I was not saved. When I was 18, thanks to my sister, she invited me to a Bible study in our neighborhood. And I heard for the first time I had the TRUST trust in Christ as the one who died and paid for my sins by his death and shed blood was buried in Rosalie and from the dead.
That night for the first time I understood John 3 16. Up until that time I knew probably two verses that I could quote. I was in church every Sunday, but I never was saved and I never heard how to be saved in my church. And I could quote John 3 16, I didn’t understand that God still loved the world that meant me. That he gave his only begotten son that is Jesus Christ, that whosoever that meant me that if I would believe, if I would trust in Christ, that I would not perish because he perished in my place, but I would have everlasting life.
And all of a sudden, like the light came on, I said, I see it, I understand it. And then I trusted Christ as my Savior. And that night upon trusting Christ, I received everlasting life. It says right there in John 3, 16 that you would not perish, but you would have, H-A-V-E, present tense verb, you would have everlasting life. And that means present tense. You possess right now at the moment of belief everlasting life. I received it. I have been saved ever since and I’ll be saved forever.
Christ promises you’ll never cast you on it. Never lose you. You are saved forever once you trust Christ. Isn’t that great news? Well, that’s, that’s what happened. That’s what the Bible’s all about. That’s That’s what the Apostle Paul and the other apostles preached. They preached Christ, His death, His barrel, His resurrection. Peter, the apostle, never opened his mouth if he didn’t talk about the death and the barrel and the resurrection. Paul opened his mouth. He preached about the death barrel and the resurrection.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15 that the gospel message that he had received from the Lord was that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day. It’s everywhere, it’s everywhere, it’s everywhere. 1 Corinthians 15 verses 3 and 4, Christ died for our sins. According to the scriptures, that was buried and rose again the third day. That’s the message that saves. You must believe that Christ died for you and shed his blood to pay for your sin debt and full was buried and rose again from the dead when you trust him.
As your only means of salvation, God saves you. And in any case, we’ve got to run, but we’ll be back tomorrow. So keep looking up. Jesus is coming. We’ll move soon. God bless and have a great day. We’ll see you tomorrow on Bibles. You’ve been listening to Bibleline, a presentation of Bibleline Ministries of Tampa, Florida.
