We pray that you will come to trust Jesus as your Savior and be saved to the glory of God. We hope that you will join us for this first by verse study of the Book of Matthew as we explore topics such as Jesus’ warning against false teachers, Jesus’ healing of the sick, lame and blind, the twelve disciples sent out to preach the gospel and more.
Now join us for Dr. Lindstrom’s teaching for today as we turn to the Book of Matthew Chapter 1. We’re living in a strange time when the Catholic Church has elevated Mary to a different position than the real Mary of the Bible, where they really say that she was a co-redemptress, that she was involved in the salvation process of Christ, is the co-redeemer. Wow. That’s somewhat blasphemous. The Catholic Church in fact, a few years back, were petitioning the Pope to use his infallible powers to declare Mary the fourth member of the Godhead.
And so what we would have had instead of the Holy Trinity would have been the Holy Quartet. That’s really true. Newsweek magazine said that I forget how many millions of petitions came in from countries around the world to get the Catholic Church to do that. But their position has always been that Mary was elevated to this high position, the Queen of the Universe, the Mother of God and so on. And in fact, Mohammed got his information about Christianity from Roman Catholics and Roman Catholic priests.
And if you read the Quran, he says that the Christian Trinity is the Father, Mary and Jesus. So Mohammed didn’t get it right, did he? So he’s not the all-knowing, all-seeing prophet that he has made out to be. He makes a lot of mistakes in the Qur’an. But because Catholicism, in around 600 years AD when Muhammad lived, presented Christianity in this way to him, he assumed he was getting correct information. In the Qur’an, he says the Trinity is the Father, Mary, and Jesus.
Interesting. So you have to tell the Muslims that they can’t get it right from the get-go. If you hadn’t heard this, I’ll just close with this. The latest thing in the news, I got it off the internet last Thursday, is that in the official Egyptian paper, they say they are now reinterpreting the midnight ride of Muhammad. In the Quran it teaches that Muhammad got on this flying horse and flew, and they say he flew to Jerusalem, landed on the Temple Mount, and that’s why the Temple Mount is holy, and the mosques there are holy.
Now they’re saying that he didn’t fly to Jerusalem, and that he probably flew from on his flying horse, which I don’t believe that at all. I hope he don’t buy into that. But anyway, he didn’t fly anywhere. But anyway, they claim in his midnight journey that he took his flying horse and flew to Mecca instead of Jerusalem. Therefore, they’re now saying in the official, and Egypt has big clout of the Muslim world. They’re saying that Jerusalem now is not holy, the Temple Mount is not holy, and the mosques are not holy.
How does that impact us as far as the return of Christ? That means they can abandon the Temple Mount, they can allow the Jews to rebuild their Temple, they can save face because Jerusalem is not holy and the mosques are not holy because I never flew there. It has been that journey. That was on World Night Daily last Thursday. It might still be sitting up there if you want to look at it, but I think that’s really significant. I think we’re getting close.
And I thought, wow, that’s a spin that I never dreamed would happen. That for 1,300 years they’ve held that Mohammed flew to Jerusalem. And now all of a sudden they’re saying he couldn’t have because the Corinth teaches he flew to an established mosque where there were worshipers who worshiped him. And there were no worshipers in Jerusalem at the time of when the journey was supposedly taking place. And there was no mosque in Jerusalem at that time. And the mosques that are in Jerusalem were built at least 60 some years after the death of Muhammad, and so he could not have flown to Jerusalem, even if he did have a flying horse and did fly someplace.
So you’re hearing it all happen. I think it’s exciting. I’m telling you, we’re getting close, and we’re watching the way it might unfold, unfold before our eyes every day. We’re in the book of Matthew. If you have your Bible open, let’s turn to the book of Matthew, the first book of the New Testament. And that’s if your Bible’s arranged in the same way minus. And so we ought to be in good shape. Last week we talked about how that this is a book that presents Christ as a king.
Christ is the king of the nation of Israel. And so the genealogy picks up in verse 1 with Abraham and David, two key players in the nation of Israel, Abraham being the one that was to cross over from the land of Ur to the promised land and became the one that began the Israeli nation. It was his grandson whose name was changed from Jacob to Israel and one of his great-grand sons Judah from which we get the name Jew.
And so that’s where it all began. And Christ the King had to be related not only to Abraham to be a part of the nation, King of the Jews, but he also had to be related to King David. And David was given the promise that of his seed, one day the Messiah would sit and rule over Israel and over the world during the millennium as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. As we went through the genealogy, we found two particular problems that we talked about.
One was the illegitimate child born by Judah, who was the one from the tribe of Judah from which Christ came. And then we counted ten generations because there was a blot on the line. Remember, Deuteronomy 23 verse 2, it says, “‘A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord for ten generations.’ And so we counted and one, two, three, four, five, all of a sudden we get to David, he was the tenth. And so there had been somewhat of a silence where God was not speaking about the genealogy of Christ and the coming of the Savior until David came along.
And that broke the silence and David was the one. His son was Solomon, this was the Kingly line, and this is the genealogy on David’s side of the line through Solomon. And then of course we came down to verse 11, another wicked king named Jechoniah or Konaiah, and we showed from Jeremiah 22 that God was not happy with this guy. This guy was a man who blasphemed God, He hated his word, took a knife, and sliced up God’s word and little pieces.
God said, earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord. Right ye this man childless, that no man of this man’s seed shall ever sit upon the throne of David. That looked like a serious blow to the whole of the prophecies because if you had to be of the line to sit upon the throne, and yet it was a curse upon the line so you couldn’t sit upon the throne, how could we indeed have a Messiah? And of course the answer is the virgin birth.
And we found it’s very clear as the genealogy runs along that so and so begat so and so and so and so and so in verse 16 we saw that it said Jacob begat Joseph. Instead of Joseph begatting Jesus it says Joseph the husband of Mary of whom was born Jesus that is called Christ. So we find here it switches because Joseph was not the real father of Christ. Had he been several things would have happened. of all, the curse of Konaiah would have been upon Christ, and he could not have been king over Israel.
Also, the seed of Adam is the one through which sin is passed, and if Joseph had been the Father, the seed being passed on by the man or the sin nature passed on by the man, Jesus would have been sinful. But because God was the Father of this child, Christ was born sinless. By the way, the blood type is determined by the Father. And so because God was the Father of this baby, the blood type was incorruptible. Sinless blood.
And that’s why Christ was sinless because God was the Father, not Joseph. So that, of course, would have eliminated the four natural sons that were born to Mary and Joseph. We said that they had at least six children in Mark’s Gospel. It names four boys and says that he had sisters. And so there were at least two girls. It might have been three sisters or four or five. So Mary and Joseph might have had as many as nine children in war.
But we know they had a minimum of four boys, which are named by name, and two girls. Those four boys could not have been the Messiah because they had a sin nature inherited from Adam. It was passed on to them through their father Joseph. And also they had the curse of Konaiah upon them because Joseph was their father and that curse passed down through Joseph. So they could not have been the Messiah. But Jesus could be the Messiah because she, Mary, was with child of the Holy Spirit.
Look at what Joseph has told in verse 21, she shall bring forth a son. And thou shall call his name Yeshua. We talked about that name for God, which occurs over 130 times in the Old Testament. You’re listening to Bible Eye, a teaching ministry that’s dedicated to delivering the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many items available from our resource center, such as Dr. Hankel and Strom’s DVD Teachings on the topics of, save by grace, baptism, and the righteous versus the unrighteous, in addition to many others when you call 1-800-576-3771.
Now we’re gonna take a break from our teaching to listen to Dr. Lindstrom answering questions from callers and then we’ll rejoin today’s teaching. We’re gonna go to Tom right now. Tom, welcome to Bibleline, I know you’re on the air. Brother Ledger? Yes. This is Tom. I just want you to know we appreciate your ministry. So very much, we’re careful to set this time apart every day to listen. Well, thank you for it. I was listening yesterday. I noticed you suggesting many churches today fail to obey the apostles’ doctrine about women keeping silence in the churches.
I just wanted to remark that our President of Shimbush had been very careful about that for many years and not that we feel when they inferior in a way, they just feel that’s the Lord’s order at this time. I know you can quote First Corinthians 11 from memory problem, but I appreciate if you would a skill move of verse 1 through 16 briefly and mention in verse 16 a little bit. I appreciate you comment on that and I want to thank you again for your benefit for that.
What chapter was that you were talking about? First Corinthians 16, I mean 11. Oh, first Corinthians chapter 11? Yeah, versus one through 16. Maybe I got mixed up. I have a mind on that verse 16, and maybe I said 16, but it’s first Corinthians 11. I guess you know that chapter from memory probably, but maybe it deals with coverings, the first 16 chapters. I appreciate if you just go here briefly and mention it. I think it’s a one’s up on verse 16, so I’ll mention that, and I’ll hang up and I appreciate it.
Well, thank you again for the ministry. Okay, Tom. I appreciate it. God bless you. That’s 1st Corinthians 11. And what is interesting here, it talks about here God’s chain of authority. He says in verse three, I would have you to know that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man and the head of Christ is God. So there you have a chain of authority from God Christ, man, woman. And of course, the man and woman as a family over the children as children are being subject to their parents.
Then we find here some interesting things about worship, and it says in verse 14, does not even nature itself teach you that if a man have long hair, it is a shame to him. There’s a distinction made here in the Bible between the sexes, and that men should have short hair and men were to have short hair and women were to have longer hair than men to obviously appear feminine. And certainly that is another thing that’s happened to be abused down through time.
But the Bible warns about that. By the way, in the time of Christ, everybody, at least in the Roman Empire, was wearing short hair. If you look at the statues throughout the entire Roman Empire, the men always had that short hair off the A show of mouthbuyers often neck and many times like the Caesar would have his hair combed forward in a short bangs and off the ears and off the neck it was a short haircut. So obviously that was the hairstyle back then and that was bivial.
Obviously, many times that gets violated a day. But then the woman is says her hair is a covering. So the woman, her hair is her her glory. It says in verse 15, if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her, for her hair is given to her for a covering. And then verse 16, it says, if any man seemed to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the church is God. So basically, you can make your choice here.
It wasn’t a rule that was enforceable in the churches, but it was certainly the principle that God taught, and it would be a shame for men to have long hair. So some churches in order to emphasize that have their women wear a bonnet or a hat or sometimes covering a scarf to cover their head. But actually their hair should be the covering, and that’s what I think it’s saying here. And if anybody wanted to be contentious over that Paul is saying that he didn’t want Christians to fight or argue over that.
But definitely that’s the principle taught in God’s word. So the woman should have longer hair than the man. The man should have short hair. And there’s a distinction in the sections there. And that’s throughout the Bible. When Israel ever was in rebellion, they apparently men would let their hair grow out. And God, for example, in Jeremiah says cut off your hair, you rebellious people. So they apparently had gotten their hair long. And one of the problems in Corinth was is that the prostitutes, as women, would completely shear off all the hair on their head and they were like bald.
And so obviously he’s telling them that that was disgraceful and they shouldn’t do that, so that they should have their head covered and was a picture of their submission to God in this chain of authority that we just talked about a moment ago. So the woman was to let her hair be her glory and her covering before the Lord. And if she uncovered her head by shearing all the hair off, it was the known symbol in Corinth that the woman who cut her hair was a prostitute and would be obviously approached.
Hope that helps a little bit. Thank you, Colin, for that call. We’re now going to go to Carl in Tampa for the call welcome to my one year and a lot of these uh… how about the economy talking about uh… visitation uh… from angels and that crisis is a dumb i know what that matthew’s twenty four twenty four says also matthew’s uh… seven fifteen and in several places is working against the false prophets uh… tell you the crisis here and crisis there or the the name to came to you could you uh…
expon a little bit more on that because i said lately it seemed like they’re all trying to outdo the other as far as the visit patients bond to heaven and i can think that you could find a little bit of that please i have to call i believe all that is phoneable only that they are this is not happening at all and uh… i would be very suspect of anybody who makes those kinds of claims first of all If you are going to go to heaven, you’re going to have to leave this body, which means Absalmon to body, present with the Lord, if you’re a believer and then you’re not coming back an exception was Paul and in 2nd Corinthians 12, he was Taken up to heaven to the third heaven to where God himself is but then he was forbidden by God to talk about it
He was told that he saw things and heard things that were unlawful for him to speak So, what is interesting to me is that how come some of these preachers around today on television radio are making claims that they’ve been to heaven, they come back and they have, they’ve been given permission by God to speak about it, I don’t think so. So even if they did, they shouldn’t, they should keep their mouth shut because obviously Paul says that he wasn’t allowed to talk about it and, but I don’t believe they go anywhere.
It’s amazing to claim that they make one of Angelus I heard said he actually went to heaven and he got a chance to see his mansion as it was under construction. And I thought, oh my goodness, they just make these stories up. And then this other lady that just wrote a book about how God took her on a tour of hell. Well, obviously she is not informed about the Bible because first of all, there’s nobody in hell right now.
Hell is going to remain vacant until Satan. He was a pastor of the Bible and his angels are cast in, which is after the thousand-year reign of Christ. That’s still future at least a thousand and seven years away if the rapture happened today. So nobody’s in hell. And so she could not have seen anybody in hell and been given a tour of hell because it’s empty. So there’s a lot of craziness out there and I would watch out for those that are making these kinds of claims.
And I think that these are, as I mentioned in the news said that you heard me say about the false teachers that would be in the last days. They make up things. And Jeremiah 23 says that they preach the dreams and the visions and the deceit of their own heart. They’re not really preaching God’s Word. So watch out. It’s a time of deception today and you just need to check out what people are saying against the Bible. the likelihood that you’re going to have any visitation is unlikely except from Satan.
That’s right. Satan’s angels actually will make appearances and they will try to fool you. And so I believe that these are satanic encounters. You know when they talk about seeing this angel of light, have you read 2 Corinthians 11? It says that Satan himself is transformed into an angel of life. So I believe whatever angel or seeing is either Satan or one of his angels that are fallen that impersonated dead and that also counterfeit so many other things about life beyond the grave.
And I would not pay much attention to that. I would steer clear. Lola in the Tona Beach calls in and she says, please explain the meaning of parables. Parables were written to conceal truth, not reveal truth. That’s why they can be difficult. I have a 10-hour series on parables where I talk about the principles of interpreting them and also go through many of the major parables and explain them. But you have to be very careful because again they’re not written to reveal truth, but to conceal truth.
read from Mark’s Gospel, and we find here that in verse 10 of chapter 4 it says, when he was alone, Jesus that is, they that were about him with the twelve, asked him about the parable. He said unto them, verse 11, unto you the believers here, it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God, but unto them that are without that is the unsaved, all these things are done in parables that seeing they may see and not perceive and hearing they may hear and not understand Less than any time that you’d be converted and their sins should be forgiven them.
So clearly here It’s telling us that they were given to concealed truth if a person doesn’t want to know the truth is not seeking God They’ll be blinded to the truth and the truth will be hidden to them and that’s why people can read the Bible and And get zero out of it. You know first Corinthians two 14 says the natural by that’s the unsafe man The one who’s not been born again receive it not the things of the Spirit of God They’re foolishness of the hymn neither can you know them because they’re spiritually discerned So if you’re lost and you just read the Bible You’re not going to get much If anything you’ll not be able to understand it and a lot of people say why don’t understand the Bible or Or this is foolishness to me.
And that’s a tip-off that they’re probably not saved. Because once you become saved, then it’s like the light switch turns on and God allows you to understand the things of His Word as the Holy Spirit opens our understanding, which is called the doctrine of illumination, not the same as the doctrine of inspiration. God’s inspiration is He being the author of the Bible and giving us the scriptures by him using men who he spoke through that gave us the Old New Testaments.
But illumination is our understanding of the scripture coming open to us, and that happens really once you become saved, the light comes on. We hope that you’re learning with us. As you listen to this question and answer segment featuring Dr. Hank Lindstrom. If you’d like to hear today’s program again, then please visit our website at BibleLineMinistries.org. It’s time for us to take a short break now. When we return, we will continue this question and answer segment and then hear more Bible teaching from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. To pledge your support for Bibleline, give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. We have the Bible open now to Acts chapter 4 and here Peter tells us neither is there salvation in Any other for there is none other name under heaven give it among men whereby we must be saved Peter makes a very clear statement I remember as a brand-new believer wondering if somebody might be saved if they believed in God But they called him by a different name and obviously the Bible is very very clear that there is only one name in which their salvation and that is the name of Jesus.
And the Hebrew of course is Yeshua which occurs over 130 times in the Old Testament and so Jesus is throughout the Old Testament and it’s actually Yeshua but if you wanted to put the English word Jesus there you certainly could. So that name is the name of Jesus and there’s not salvation in anybody else. Not Buddha, Mohammed, not Allah, not any other name for any other God. There is only one. You know, the Hindus have four million gods and none of them can save.
Four million gods, I guess we could just continue to add to that list, but there’s only one God. One that created the universe, one that loved us and came to the earth and took on human flesh and became our Savior. That’s none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament, God is very clear to let us know that He is the only God, and only in Him is their salvation. Let me have you turn with me to Isaiah chapter 43, and here we find that God says, I even I am the Lord, that is Jehovah, or Yahweh, and beside me there is no Savior.
That’s pretty clear, isn’t it? It’s interesting here in this chapter is talking to Israel. What is the one who is speaking here through the prophet Isaiah? And he says in verse 10, you are by witnesses, saith Jehovah or Yahweh. And what has happened is that the Jehovah’s Witnesses have taken this verse and taken their name from this verse. You are by witnesses, saith Jehovah. So they claim that they are the Jehovah’s Witnesses. But if you read the context, he’s talking about the Jewish people being his witnesses up until of course Pentecost, when God then of course gave the charge of witnessing to us the Church the Gentiles.
But if you read this verse carefully, Jehovah says what you are to witness to. He says, you are my witnesses, say Jehovah, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am. Then he says, before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. The witnesses claim that Jesus Christ is a created being, that He is A-God, created by God. And obviously that makes them false witnesses because notice what God says.
He says there is no God before Me, neither shall there be after Me. So if Jesus Christ is as the witnesses claim A-God, then they are false witnesses because Jehovah says in verse 11, I even I am the Lord and beside me there is no Savior. There is none. No, not one. We find over in the next chapter here of Isaiah in chapter 44. God says, I am the first and I am the last and beside me there is no God.
That’s chapter 44 of Isaiah in verse 6. Now what is interesting in Revelation chapter 1 is that Jesus says that He is the first and the last. And in chapter 2 of Revelation it says that Jesus is the first and the last. Now what it says here in Isaiah 44 verse 6 is Jehovah says I am the first and the last and beside me there is no God. So we either how to have a contradiction or we have Jesus being the very same God as the God of the Old Testament that he is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega.
Jesus Christ of course is God and that is exactly what it is saying to us. We go over to chapter 45 of Isaiah and God says in verse 6, there is none beside me. I am the Lord and there is none else. That’s pretty clear, isn’t it? There’s only one God that’s the God of the Bible. He says in verse 18 of chapter 45, he says, I am the Lord and there is none else. In any case, we’re so glad that you’re listening today and I hope you’ll be ready now for the second half hour.
We’re going to rejoin stations that have been on break. Get ready for the second half hour. Would you like to help Bibleline continue in your area? You can. We hope that you’re learning with us as you listen to Bibleline and hear real life questions with scriptural answers from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Please make plans to join us and open your Bible as we also present in-depth studies covering a variety of biblical topics.
Now, let’s return to our question and answer segment, and then you’ll hear more Bible teaching from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We’re going to go to Robin in St. Petersburg. Robin, welcome to Bible Life. So enjoy your show. Well, thank you so much. I have to ask you a question though. Just now when you said that hell is empty until Satan and his demons are thrown into the lake of fire. It made me, it was kind of a wow item for me and I wondered about Lazarus, the story that Jesus tells about.
The poor man Lazarus dying and going to paradise and then the rich man goes to hell. Is that just a parable or is that? That’s for real. But actually the Greek word there is Hades, which is a hollow place in the heart of the earth where before the crucifixion both saved and lost, went there and they were separated by an impassable gulf and the place for the lost there is called a place of torment in Luke 16 and there the rich man was in torment there in Hades.
But if you read Revelation chapter 20, after the thousand year reign of Christ is over, everybody in Hades will be brought up, judged according to their works, assigned in the degree of punishment and then cast into hell the lake of fire. yet they’re separated in Hades to a place of torture. Yeah. Now the Savior gone. Once Christ died, He went down there Himself and was there three days and three nights. On the third day He emptied out all the saved.
Paradise has now been removed to heaven itself. You see the dying thief made him there in Paradise. As Christ said today, that shall be with me in Paradise in Luke 23, 43. But then he emptied that place out of now in 2nd Corinthians chapter 12 verses 1 through 3 it says that Paradise is now in the third heaven which is where God himself resides. So now when people die and they are not saved and they go to the 80s to wait until the time when Christ comes.
Exactly. Okay. That is such a revelation. Thank you so much. Okay. All right. I’m glad. Well, that is something interesting. initially. And of course, the apostles create is wrong because it says Christ descended into hell. Christ never went to hell. Christ went into paradise in the heart of the earth during those three days and three nights from the time of his death on the cross and when he rose again from the dead. We have an anonymous call from Tampi says there are references to deaconesses in the New Testament.
I am wondering why you believe only men should be deacons, elders, I understand, but would have some clarification on women serving. Let me give you an example. I’m going to read here from the King James from Romans 16. It says here, I commend unto you Phoebe, our sister. Here’s a woman which is a servant of the church which is in Chinshura. The word servant there is translated into some of the modern translations as a deaconess. The word deacon simply means a servant, but there was no office of deacon for women.
Women could be servants. They could serve and obviously women should endure Christ and live for him, but there is no office of deacon. The deacon is an office of a position within the church, the body of Christ, elders and deacons, but there’s no women ever appointed in that office. And if you read the scriptures, you’ll never find that. But here is the word servant, which every deacon, actually the Greek word means a tableweight or a servant. Somebody waits on tables.
And so women who were serving were called servants. And in some of the translations are translating that deacon. So I think it’s really unfair to translate it that way. So hopefully that will answer your question. Thank you so much. We now have James and James is calling in from… My ami florida and James welcome to Bibleline and Good to have you on board today Okay, the question I have is about the Mormons What is their faith all about and what do they do they acknowledge Christ or you know?
What is that basis for their salvation as it was according to their religion? I’m gonna hang up a list to you Thank you very much. Okay, James. James, the Mormons aren’t even Christian. They believe that Satan and Jesus are brothers. They teach that they all have migrated here from the pallet Colob, K-O-L-O-B, and that God Elohim was having lots of spiritual babies, spiritual children, that they needed bodies for these spirits. And so they had a council of 12 of Elohim’s sons and they drew lots as to who would go to the planet earth and begin to produce bodies.
And the lot fell on Jesus and so Jesus was dispatched from the planet Colab, K-O-L-O-B, and he arrived here at the earth and became the Adam God that started making bodies. And so moment the Elohim says really, the more babies you can make, the greater chances you have going higher and higher in your spirituality. In fact, you could pass Jesus and surpass him if you have enough kids. So this was a polygamous cult. And we have some in the news right now that are off shoots of the Mormon religion, but they believed in having many wives and many children.
Brigham Young, who took them west to Utah, was actually going to Utah to flee the laws of this country as the country was developing before Utah was a state and they could practice their polygamy out there and of course he had 17 wives and 54 children and that was Brigham Young. He was setting the example 17 wives and 54 children. And by the way, Satan according to Mormon theology got jealous that Jesus was chosen and not him. And so he rebelled and came down to the earth and according to Mormon theology all the black races have come forth from Satan.
They don’t say it too loudly today, but basically anybody who’s black in color has come from Satan, according to Mormons. That’s Mormon theology. And they believe that there is no help and that to go to heaven you have to keep the commandments, you have to be water baptized and you have to work, work, work, work, work. And obviously they’re not even close to being Christian. They deny the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ that he is the God of the Bible, the God of creation, and the only means of salvation through his death and shed blood at the cross.
So the Mormons are lost. They need our prayers. We need to win them to Christ and pray for these folks. There’s a lot of folks out there deceived in many different cults and groups. And the Mormons are one of those that are growing like crazy. And yet they’re not even close to being Christian, although they claim that they are. Their book of Mormon contradicts the Bible. And obviously it cannot be from God because the Bible says that we’re to contend, Jude 1 3, Jude 1 3, we’re to contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
So if some new faith comes along or some new belief comes along, it contradicts the Bible we already have, then it’s clearly wrong. And that’s of course the case here. Thank you so very much. We are now going to go to Ken in, I’ll rather Ben in Zephyrhills, Florida, Ben. Welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes, hello. Good morning, Dr. Hank. My question is regarding Matthew 12 verses 25 through 28 specifically if Satan cast out Satan there in verse 26, he’s divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand?
And I asked this in light of these alleged revivals going on around Florida and when and someone disputes that these are uh… miracles from god uh… this is one of the things they come back with this saying that uh… well satan can’t cast out himself so these must be from god and i’ll hang up an answer or or listen thank you very much thank you men actually uh… they satan doesn’t cast out satan and demons i i believe rather than being cast out in the so-called healing meetings are actually uh…
in dwelling people. I believe that these are meetings where you are a good candidate to become demon in drought. You have problems generally following these meetings. I know that up in the Brownsville Revival up in North Florida, they called it the twitching movement. And I know a lady in our church, her sister took her family and her son down to Pensacola, Florida, those meetings. And he got the twitching and she took him to doctors. He would twitch in his sleep, you twitch and school, you twitch all day long.
His body was just kind of a shake and he’d twitch. I believe that’s demonic. The doctors had no cure and I don’t know that he ever recovered from that. But she was so terribly concerned with her son that he could not even get a moment’s rest at night. He would twitch all night long. I think these are demonic things. Many of these are coming to us from other countries. I think America, which used to be a stronghold of God’s word.
And the demons were kind of held off are now invading America And I think we’re seeing in these signs of one of those miracles meetings, which I believe are totally false We’re now going to go to Fatima and Fatima is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Fatima welcome to Bibleline you are on the air Hello, hi, you’re on the air Okay, hi. I have a question and my question is Do Satan use tongue to put curses on people? I had a friend calling me morning and was telling me, if I have a pray for her and her family, please do not pray and come for her anymore.
I just wanted to know. Well, I don’t believe the tongues today, the modern tongues movement is the real biblical gift. And I don’t believe it comes from the Lord. a lot of it is just people imitating other people. But sometimes it is demon driven. If you read Isaiah, the one verse that really talks about this gibberish, it talks about the peeping and muttering, it definitely connects it with demons. And it talks about the two types of gibberish that we have today in the tongues movement, the high pitch rapid chirping sound which is what is described in Isaiah chapter 8 and then also the low or more slow sound which some do and those are just from demons according to Isaiah chapter 8 and the Bible tells us not to get involved with that, to stay away from it and I would agree with her don’t go in the direction of times.
That concludes today’s question and answer segment. There’s no other topic that is more important to us than the gospel of Jesus Christ. And it was Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s mission to spread the gospel. Through your support for Bibleline, you too can help to spread the gospel of Christ throughout the world and to reach others with the message of salvation through Jesus. Visit our website at BibleLineMinistries.org for copies of any of our resources such as Dr. Lindstrom’s audio CDs on the books of Matthew or Genesis, plus many others.
Now join us as we return to today’s teaching series. Look at what Joseph has told in verse 21, she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name Yeshua. We talked about that name for God, which occurs over 130 times in the Old Testament. If somebody says show me the name Jesus in the Old Testament, the English word Jesus does not appear, but the word, the very word that the angel gave to Joseph here from the angel as to what Christ would be named as Yeshua.
In English, it’s Jesus. So the name of Jesus is in the Old Testament at least 130 times. And what does Peter say in Acts 10, 43? To Christ give all the prophets witness that through His name, all the Old Testament writers that through His name, whosoever believeth in Him, should receive the remission of sins. So we know the Old Testament saints were saved because they believed on Jesus. The name is Yeshua, which is God who would save you. We find in Genesis chapter 49 when Jacob calls his sons together, he says while he addresses each of his twelve sons and tells about the future, he says to God, he says, I have waited for thy Jesus, O Lord.
He says I waited for thy Yeshua in Genesis 49-18. So there are many verses where, like Jacob knew, the promise of the coming Savior, Jacob had wrestled with Christ and that night got saved and his name was changed from Jacob to Israel. And so everybody in the Old Testament was saved by faith and faith alone. Isaiah chapter 10 verse 43 says to Christ, give all the prophets witness that through his name, whosoever believeth in him, should receive the remission of sins.
So the name of Jesus is there, it’s Yeshua and in In English it’s Jesus. And what did the angel tell? Joseph? She shall bring forth a son? That was what called his name Yeshua or in English Jesus. Why? Because the name means he would save his people from their sins. The name Yeshua means God who would save you. Now all of this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the The Prophet saying // Behold, a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel.
That prophecy Isaiah 714, given 700 years before Jesus ever came the first time. And the prophet told how a virgin would bear a child. And the child’s name would be Emmanuel, one of the names of Christ, which Matthew tells us being interpreted as God with us. Then we find that Joseph being raised from the sleep, did as the angel Lord, had bitten him, took an image, and he was a man of the Lord. his wife and knew her not, until she had brought forth her firstborn son.
And he called his name Yeshua, which in English is Jesus. And of course here talks about knew her not, which speaks about a sexual relationship. It wasn’t until after Jesus had been born that Mary and Joseph had natural children. They had at least six children, according to Mark’s Gospel, chapter 6. The Roman Catholic Church denies that and says that Mary was a perpetual virgin that she never ever bore a child outside of the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s not true.
Mary and Joseph had natural children. Also, in order to explain the sinlessness of Christ, the Roman Catholic Church invented the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. The Immaculate Conception has nothing to do with the birth of Christ. It has to do with Mary. It teaches that Mary was conceived without sin. So that Mary was sinless. And therefore, because Christ was born of Mary that He was sinless. That doesn’t solve the problem. It just pushes it back one generation. But Mary was a sinner.
And in Luke 1, 47, she confesses that she needed a Savior. She says, my soul does rejoice in God, my Savior. So in Luke 1, 47, Mary confesses her her need of a Savior. What does that mean? She was a sinner, although she was a godly woman, a special woman. She was a sinner like us needing a Savior. She trusted in Jesus for her own salvation. And that’s something I think that needs to be said. Chapter two, here we go now with chapter two.
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the King, behold there came three kings from orient, are, or something. You know, a lot of what we learn about the Christmas story comes from hymns, pageants, Christmas cards, and everything else. And some of the songs are not even redeemable that we sing at Christmas. But nowhere does the Bible say anything about three kings. And yet, a lot of people every year saying, we, three kings, of Oreo, and our bearing gifts, we travisephar, and they talk about how they followed this star until they finally got there.
The Bible doesn’t say anything about three kings. In fact, it says, wise men. The word wise is the Greek word magi, it means oriental scientists. These apparently were men who, in the evenings, the television, so they watched the stars, and they studied them. They saw a special star and they identified it with a prophecy back in the Old Testament in the book of Numbers. And there it talked about a star associated with the birth of Christ. And so they said this must be the Messiah is born.
And so it doesn’t say how many, but certainly doesn’t say three. There might have been three, but I think that there was probably a large group. Maybe a dozen or two dozen or three dozen wise men. And then with all the accompanying entourage, I believe that several hundred wrote into Jerusalem when they came in Jerusalem. It caused quite a stir. Three guys coming in on three camels isn’t going to get the king. You’re not excited. But when you have several hundred riding in to Jerusalem and they’re saying, where is he that is born king of the Jews, that got the attention of Herod?
And so I envision a large group of men coming. Several dozen of these Oriental scientists along with all of their accompanying servants and all the people that would come along to prepare the food. And it was a long journey. It took them about two years to get there is we’re going to find out. Verse two, they said, where is he that is born king of the Jews? We’ve been following his star now for two years and we’re tired. No, it doesn’t say that.
Notice it says here, we have seen his star in the East past tense. They did not follow the star, contrary to what we’ve been taught all our lives. They saw the star in the East and they didn’t see the intel after they had their visit with Herod, but they did not follow the star from the east to Jerusalem, contrary to what we’re taught. Christmas cards all have the shepherds following the star. You notice that? And all of the Christmas pageants, they have that happening.
The wise men didn’t actually arrive until two years after the birth. And you’ll find as we go along here they didn’t come to a stable, they didn’t see the shepherds, they didn’t see a baby lying in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes. They found Jesus as a young two-year-old walking and talking and they found him in a house where Mary and Joseph were living and they didn’t come to the stable at all. Look at all the Christmas cards what do they have?
They always have the wise men hitched up outside the stable and they have the shepherds and the animals in the baby lying in a manger. That’s not correct at all. Absolutely wrong. It doesn’t seem like anybody’s ever going to get it right. A number of years ago we had a manger seen out in the for you. We used to have a table on both sides. We put the manger scene with the animals and the manger and Mary Joseph and the shepherds all on one side.
We put the wise men on the other side of the foyer because we knew they came two years later. And so people who didn’t know any better that came as visitors to our church during the Christmas holidays would notice that. And we found that visitors trying to be helpful would pick up the wise men and move them to the other side and put them over there at the stable. And our ushers would kind of keep a straight face, you know, and just kind of chuckle inside.
And when they were seated, then they would move the wise men back over there across the foyer. And sure enough, another visitor would come in and they’d say, well, the wise men are out of place. And they would pick them up and move them back over here to where the stable was. And we laughed for a long time about that because most people believe that’s the way it is. it is and they always want to put the wise men right there at the stable.
You’re going to find that they did not come to a stable. They came two years after the birth. Look at verse 2 again saying, where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen past tense his star where? In the east and were come to worship him. Notice they came to worship and truly they were wise men because they recognized from the scriptures that this king, this Jesus, was actually God. Only God is to be worshipped according to the Bible.
And so they came because they recognized that he was God and came to worship him. Verse 3, when Herod the king heard these things he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him. They caused quite a stir up. It was a large crowd that came. And Herod was a little bit paranoid. He said, who’s this king that’s going to replace me? I need to find out about this. And so verse 4, when He had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together.
He was born in a royal Bible study. He said, I want to know where. Here’s the key word in verse 4, if you’re marking your Bible, where Christ should be born. He knew that the prophecies had spoken about it. He says, I want you guys to get your concordance as now. Get whatever lexicons you have, whatever Bible study tools you have. Get your Bibles out and start a study. I want you to find out where does it stay in the Bible as to where Christ will be born.

There’s only one God that’s the God of the Bible. He says in verse 18 of chapter 45. He says, I am the Lord and there is none else. Then if you look down to verse 22 of Isaiah 45, God says, look unto me and be saved all the ends of the earth,AFTA I am God and there is none else. There’s none else. There’s only one. And that is of course the God of the Bible, the God of creation. And again, he says it again and again.
Only one God, only one Savior. And of course, Jesus Christ claims to be God and that same Savior that we read about in the Old Testament. In Luke 2, 11, it says, “…for unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior which is Christ the Lord.” Either Christ is the Savior, the same Savior, the Old Testament as Jehovah or Yahweh, or he is a liar and is not the savior. But obviously, according to the Bible, God would take on flesh, and he’s the same God that we read about in the Old Testament.
God who created the universe, God who took on human flesh, who came here and died on the cross of Calvary to pay for our sins. Now Peter tells us again in Acts chapter 10 verse 43, this is a favorite of mine. Think about what Peter is saying here, where he says to Jesus, And of course the Hebrew is Yeshua. To Jesus give all the prophets witness, he’s telling us here that all the writers of the Old Testament, the prophets who gave us everything from Genesis to Malachi, are giving witness in the scriptures to Jesus Christ.
To Jesus or Yeshua give all the prophets witness that through his name, that is the name Jesus or Yeshua, that whosoever believeth in him, that is in Jesus or Yeshua should receive the remission of their sins. Isn’t that amazing? What he’s saying in one verse is that everybody in the Old Testament was saved by trusting Jesus’ Christ as their Savior. And that no one has ever been saved any differently. To Jesus give all the prophets witness, that means the writers of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers did run away, right all the way through Malachi, that every one of them spoke about Jesus, you can find Jesus throughout the Old Testament, and if you haven’t yet, you need to start looking at your Bible again and ask God to reveal it to you, because He’s everywhere.
Well that’s all foretold in the Old Testament, beginning early in Genesis, and Peter tells us in this wonderful verse that to Jesus give all the prophets with us, that through His name, whosoever believeth in Him should receive the remission of their sins. When you would believe that word means to trust when you trust in Christ that you become saved and you become saved eternally. That’s got to be the best news that anyone will ever hear. Eternal life is not something you get after you die.
Eternal life is something you receive at the moment you believe. The Bible is very clear that at the moment you believe you receive it and at that very moment you become saved. At that very moment it’s irreversible. It cannot be undone. Once a person is saved, it cannot be undone at all. Ecclesiastes 3.14 says, I know that whatsoever God doeth it shall be forever, and nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it. That’s pretty clear, isn’t it?
Once God does something, it’s forever, and nothing can be put to it, nor nothing can take it away from it, it is permanent. It is set in concrete. It can’t be changed. And if you would ask me about my salvation, I would say it’s eternal. It’s forever. It cannot be changed. It cannot be rescinded. It cannot be revoked. It cannot be lost. It cannot be changed at all because God has made a promise and God would never go back on His Word.
God has promised that all that would believe or trust on Jesus Christ as Savior would receive the wonderful gift of everlasting life. Got a run, but keep looking up. Jesus is coming, and I believe he’s really coming soon. I really believe that. God bless you. Have a great day. I’m Dr. Englister and we’ll be back tomorrow.
