I’m Tom Perry, and you are tuned in to Bibleline, where you’ll hear a combination of teachings from the Word of God and real-life questions.
Withnestyaken straight from the Bible, we pray that Bibleline will be glorifying to God, as well as educational for you. is a continuation of Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s ministry of spreading the good news of salvation throughout the world, salvation by simply trusting Jesus Christ alone as your Savior. We hope that you will join us for this first by verse study of the Book of Matthew as we explore topics such as Jesus foretelling his death and resurrection, his rejection by the Jewish leaders, the many parables told by Jesus and more.
Now join us for Dr. Lynchstrom’s teaching for today as we turn to the book of Matthew chapter 2 verse 4 when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together he ordered a royal Bible study he said I want to know where here’s the key word in verse 4 if you’re marking your Bible where Christ should be born he knew that the prophecies He said, spoken about it. He says, I want you guys to get your concordances out.
Get whatever lexicons you have, whatever Bible study tools you have, get your Bibles out and start a study. I want you to find out where does it say in the Bible as to where Christ would be born. Well, I bet these guys were happy to say that they found the answer because it probably saved their jobs and their lives. Because in verse 5, they said to him, oh Herod, we found the answer. It is in Bethlehem of Judea. For thus it is written by the Prophet.
I bet they came in real happy. We found it. Herod might have killed him if they hadn’t of. And so they quote now from Micah chapter 5 and verse 2, the little prophet Micah in the Old Testament and foretold that Christ would be born in the city of Bethlehem. And thou Bethlehem in the land of Judah are not the least of among the princes of Judah, for out of thee shall come a governor that shall rule my people Israel.
So the Old Testament prophet Micah had foretold the coming of Jesus. Then there’s seven. Then Herod, when he privately called the wise men, he inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. Now he gets the wise men together. He gets them under the bright lights. He interrogates them. And what does he want to know? What time? So the two key things that Herod was looking for, he was not dumb. He says in verse 4, I want to know where the Messiah would be born.
He gets the wiseman together and he’s smart enough to figure out when they saw the star, that would probably mark the birth. He says, I want to know when you guys saw that star. The star wasn’t sitting outside. They had seen the star in the past, in the east. He says, how long ago was that? That you saw that star? We’re going to find out that they told him two years and that becomes significant in a few minutes. So then we find numbers 80 sent them to Bethlehem and said, go search diligently for the baby lying in a manger.
Notice this as young child. You’re going to see this repeated time and time again. And this is a different word than what we find in Luke’s Gospel when you have the shepherds coming to the stable. There the Greek word brephos is used. It means a newborn, a brand new baby. But here a young child means a young growing, developing child. And we believe at this time Jesus is two years old, walking and talking. Wow. Can you imagine they may have had a conversation with Jesus at two years old here.
So here they come and they’re going to be looking now for the young child. And he says, when you have found him, bring me word again and it may come and worship him also. And of course that was a lie. He didn’t want to worship this baby. He wanted to kill this baby. So when they heard the king, they departed and lo, the star which they had seen in the east, went before them until it came and stood over where the young child was.
So now they see the star again as soon as they leave Herod. But the star really just guided him a little distance because Bethlehem is just four miles south of Jerusalem. It’s actually just like a suburb of Jerusalem today. But Bethlehem today is one of those cities that have been given over to Aerofat. It’s a city that belongs today to the Palestinian Authority. And therefore, it’s not the same as it used to be. I visited Israel now for 13 times and I was there pre this being given over to Aerofat.
And I’ve noticed how the city no longer has that same look that it used to have. You drive down some of the streets and it’s become like a junkyard. old refrigerators, old washer machines, just thrown by the side of the road. It’s become a dump heat. It’s amazing how there’s a whole different culture involved now, as the Palestinians have taken over that city, and basically the Palestinians have made it a junk pile, and not a comfortable place to be there.
Also, as of late my last visit there, we got there, and Muslim children came up to our bus as we were ready to depart after having seen the traditional birthplace of Christ. And they were chanting, young children, Allah is greater than Jesus. Allah is greater than Jesus. Allah is greater than Jesus. They just chanted this, you know. I went out to the buses. I told them to shut up in a nice way. And I gave them tracks and candy, but they were out there as a part of this whole thing where they just are absolutely opposed to Christianity.
You know, the core end is the only religion in the world that directly attacks Christianity. The core end says that Jesus Christ is not the Son of God. The core end says that Jesus Christ did not die on the cross of Calvary. The core end teaches that Jesus Christ was not buried. The core end teaches that Jesus Christ did not rise from the dead. And the core end says that Jesus did not pay for the sins of the world.
It’s the only religion that directly attacks the heart of the Bible, which is the message of the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ. And unfortunately these people are lost and they need to know Christ and they need to be saved. But this is the part of the conflict of the end times. I’ve mentioned it before, I’ll just throw it again and again, but in Daniel 9-11, what happened on 9-11? We know what happened on 9-11. Maybe it’s a coincidence it probably is, but Daniel 9-11 says, because of Israel’s sins, God says, I’m going to place this curse upon you.
If you look up the word curse in the Hebrew in Daniel 911, the word is Allah. Haven’t we all since 911 been confronted with the curse of Allah, the curse of Islam, the hatred toward the Jew and the Christian and the fact that we’re the enemy and if they could they would be here and destroy us and their goal by the way is to take over the world. Are you reading into the Palestinian or Muslim Islamic websites? They predict in 20 years they’ll control the whole world.
They are out for world domination, and that’s exactly what the Quran teaches that they should do is to conquer the world in the name of Muhammad, Allah’s Prophet. Of course, it’s a false God. Allah is the moon God. That’s why you see on every prayer tower, minaret, you see the crescent moon because they pray to the moon, the moon God. And of course, that was just one of the tribal gods out there in the deserts of Saudi Arabia when Muhammad came along and presented the moon as being the God of the universe.
And of course the Bible forbids the worship of the sun, the moon, and the stars throughout the Old Testament. And so it is a false religion from the get-go and the core end is flawed in every way. It contradicts itself. In one place that says God created the earth in six days, another place that says He created it in eight days and so on and so on and so on. It’s just filled with contradictions. The Bible is the only book.
It’s absolutely accurate and does not have any flaws or any error in it. So I couldn’t help but just say a word about that because obviously we’re living confronted with the curse of Allah. We’re facing it every day in the alerts that we read about on the news. The fact now that every American is now being rated in the different categories when you travel. either green or red or yellow, and if you’re a red, might as well not even go out to the airport.
You’re going to be in real trouble. Every American is being categorized now, and some people obviously will be harassed terribly because they get labeled wrong. But we’re all being now categorized, scrutinized, and documents, and information about us is being put in a big database. And so when you travel and you might be ready to, you wonder why are they gonna hassle you every time you make a move, it may be that they have rated you as a yellow or a red.
If you’re red, you’re probably gonna be delayed on every flight. You’re not gonna go anywhere without being thoroughly searched and everything else. And so it’s changed our world, hasn’t it? And every American is in on that. Maybe you haven’t experienced it yet, but some innocent people who are possibly tagged with wrong in the system go through terrible searches every time they step on a plane. Here we are back to Matthew chapter 2. It says here in verse 10, when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
Can you imagine? They hadn’t seen the star for two years.)]. They come to Herod. He knows nothing about the baby. Nobody in Jerusalem seems to know anything about this king. And they might have thought, well, maybe we were wrong. Maybe we wasted our time. That was a big investment. A two-year travel and maybe two years back to return, That’s a big chunk out of your life, isn’t it? Talk about investing a couple of years out of your life, all the expense, the entourage to travel in those days, across desert wasteland to get to Jerusalem, hundreds of people in the group and they get there and nobody knows what they’re talking about.
That must have been very disappointing. So when they saw the star or what happens, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. They knew they were right. They knew they were on target. And now notice what it says in verse 11. And when they were coming to the stable, they saw all the animals gathered around the manger where the baby Jesus was lying wrapped in swaddling clothes. And I made that up. I wanted you to notice it doesn’t say that when they were coming to the what?
H-O-U-S-E, house. Notice when they were coming to the house, they didn’t come into the stable. That was two years earlier. This was two years later. When they were coming to the house, they saw what? The infant? No. They saw the young child. Jesus may have actually greeted them at the door. Mary his mother and they fell down in worship Mary. No, it doesn’t say that either. Are you ready now? Watch it. They didn’t, they fell down in worship Joseph.
No, they didn’t worship him either. They fell down in worship Him Jesus. You’re listening to Bible Eye, a teaching ministry that’s dedicated to delivering the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many items available from our resource center such as Dr. Hankel and Strom’s DVD teachings on the topics of predestination, false gospels, and is Lordship Salvation a counterfeit gospel? In addition to many others when you call 1-800-576-3771. Now we’re going to take a break from our teaching to listen to Dr.
Lindstrom answering questions from callers and then we’ll rejoin today’s teaching. We’re going to go right now to of the phone lines we have Linda in Lutz, Florida and Linda, welcome to Bibleline. You are on the air. Yes, I would like to have a question answered please. All through the Bible it speaks of the mystery of Christ and I was just wondering what the mystery was and also I wrote a passage about Moses and the obi Old Testament of Moses and the clouds and the trees.
And if you could explain that, I’d appreciate it. I will give it a good shot, Linda. Thank you very much. The mystery is, of course, there’s a couple of verses that use that word. The word mystery doesn’t mean something that’s complicated. It doesn’t mean something that cannot be understood, but it means something that maybe had not been revealed or explained before, but now is being revealed or is made clear. Well let’s go ahead and take a look at a verse which will probably explain it for you.
It says over here in Colossians chapter 1, in verse 28, to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is, here’s the answer it, Linda, Christ in you, the hope of glory. This age which began at Pentecost was not revealed in the Old Testament, and the mystery is that during this age, God would turn to the Gentiles and bring the gospel to them, and that Christ would indwell every one of those that would believe.
If you’re a believer, Linda, then at the moment you believed on Christ, the Holy Spirit came to indwell your body. And of course, that means Jesus came and dwelt in you because all three members of the Godhead are present in our body which are His temple. And let me read the verse again. Closians 128, this is the verse you need to know, to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles.
And this is the mystery. What’s the answer here says, which is Christ in you the hope of glory? would dwell in the believer in this age and that was true in the Old Testament, but does apply to every believer today. Your other question about Moses, well in 1 Corinthians 10 you must be making an allusion to that. We know that when Moses crossed the Red Sea with the children of Israel as God parted the sea, it tells us in 1 Corinthians 10 that I would not have you that you should be ignorant that how all our fathers were under the cloud and all passed through the sea.
And we’re all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea. I’m not sure that’s what you’re making reference to, but the whole nation of Israel was immersed as a nation in the cloud and in the sea. as they crossed the cross on dry ground when God parted the sea. And this was a picture of a redeemed people, redeemed by the blood of the Passover Lamb, a picture of Christ dying at Calvary and providing salvation for all that would believe on Him.
And we as believers are included in that redemption that Israel experienced through the blood way back there as they came out of Egypt. And we experience when we trust in the blood of the Lamb, the Lord Jesus as our Savior. Linda, thank you for that call and I hope that helps. And we hope that you’ll keep on listening. We have a number of offer questions. We’re going to try to take a couple of those. We have Saul in Bradenton, Florida, and Saul calls in and leaves this question about Romans chapter three.
And he says, could I explain, please, verse 27 through 31. So let’s just take a look at what it says there. In verse 27, it says, where is boasting then? It is excluded. What it’s saying here, Saul, is that salvation is a gift and it’s not by works, and therefore any boasting that we might do is excluded. There’s nothing for us to boast about. All we can do is say, God save me. I was lost and I couldn’t save myself and we can just say our salvation is in the Lord.
I heard a country western song a number of years ago and it had the theme in the words that if anyone makes it to heaven, Lord, surely I will. Surely I will. If anyone makes it to heaven, Lord, surely I will. And it talked about how this person went to church and how they prayed and how they were faithful. If anyone makes it to heaven, Lord, surely I would not sit on. Are the ignorant of the Bible because surely they won’t.
If you’re trusting in your works, you won’t make heaven. And those people who are bragging are obviously telling you they’re putting their confidence in their works for salvation. And the Bible says the plan of salvation eliminates any boasting and bragging because there’s not a thing you can do to be saved but trust in the finished work of Jesus. It says in Romans 3, 27, where is posting then. It is excluded by what law? It says of works? No! But by the law of faith.
So we know that because of faith and not by works, there’s no posting. I can’t say I deserve to go to heaven that I earned my way. I did my part. There’s no part that we can play except to receive. So it says in verse 28, and hopefully this is answering your question, we conclude. Here’s the conclusion of the first three chapters of the book of Romans. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith and then it says without without without without without without without Without works without the deeds of the law So we’re justified by faith without works.
Can you think of a verse in the Bible that says we’re saved by faith and not by works? Well here it is Romans 3 28 therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without Works without the deeds of the law and of course are many more Ephesians 2 8 by grace, are you saved through faith in Jesus Christ? And that none of yourselves, it’s the gift of God, not of works. A standing man should boast. Then it says in verse 29 here, is God the God of the Jews only?
And the answer is of course no. Is he not also the God of the Gentiles? The answer is a plain yes in verse 29, Romans 3. He’s the God of the Gentiles also. Verse 30 says, seeing it is one God. God, there’s only one God and we mentioned that earlier. God says, I am the Lord and there is no God beside me back in Isaiah 45 that recorded it earlier in the program. There’s only one God and only one Savior and He says, look into me and be saved.
And so it says here, seeing as one God which will justify the Jews that calls them here, the circumcision by faith and justify the uncircumcision, And that’s the Gentiles through faith. So they’re both saved the same way. Jews are saved by faith in Christ. Gentiles are saved by faith in Christ. There’s no other means of salvation. Saul and Bradenton, I hope that helps. And thank you for being patient to wait for the answer of your offer question. We have Joseph and safety harbor and he writes in and says, faith healers and wealth preachers like Richard Roberts, Joe Olstein and Joyce Myers rarely have ever teach the true gospel.
So why does God let them continue and not judge them till now? I believe God is allowing people to get what they want. We just quoted a moment ago. 2 Timothy 4 says that the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears and they’ll turn away their ears from the truth and be turning to the fables. In other words, they just will not tolerate good solid Bible teaching anymore and that’s happening.
People want to be entertained, they want to have their ears tickled and churches that are really just teaching the Bible are not the ones that are bursting out at the seams, but the ones that entertain people have lots of music and lots of other exciting things going on are the ones that are attracting the big crowds. Isn’t that amazing? And by the way, if you’re attracted by the big crowds, just remember that the big crowds are not always right.
In the days of Noah, how many people believed there was a coming flood? If I recall, it tells me in my Bible that only eat people, know it as wife, and as three sons and their wives, believe that the flood was coming. All the rest didn’t believe it. They just said, we can’t tolerate this sound doctrine. We don’t want to hear that. We want to hear something else. And so I’m sure the weather forecasters of that day were forecasting fair weather and no rain.
And guess what? The rain came and the earth was flooded. And everybody drowned except those eight people that had the truth. My friend don’t follow the crowd. You’ll be misled oftentimes. It says that in the Old Testament many times. Israel was guilty of following after the crowd and following after the latest fad and seeking after signs and wonders. And the Bible says you don’t want to do that. It talks about being quiet and listening for that quiet still voice of God as he speaks to us through his word.
Well, we live in an age when there’s lots of false preachers, Joyce Myers you just mentioned says she hasn’t sinned in the past 10 years. I find that very, very interesting, especially since the Bible says in 1 John 1 8, if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. Joyce, I can’t believe you haven’t sinned in 10 years. Alright, we’re gonna go out of Joe and Pembert Pines down in South Florida, and he writes in and asks the question about John 15.
Let’s go over there and take a look at the verse that he’s asking about. John’s Gospel, chapter 15, and the question is about verse 22. If I had not come and spoken unto them, then they had not sinned, but now they have no cloak for their sin. So obviously, I think he’s talking about here that here they were actually able to see God and flesh the Lord Jesus Christ. Because they rejected Him, they had no cloak for their sin, which is the sin here I believe of unbelief, which is the only sin that can cause a person to be lost and go to hell.
There’s only one sin that will cause you to be forever lost. Jesus said, he to believeth not on Christ is condemned already, John 3 18, because because because it says he hath not believed on the name of the only being the Son of God. So here they had actually seen him and they rejected him and they had no answer, no excuse, no cloak for their sin. And so they were guilty and would not be forgiven if they died without trusting Christ.

Hank Lindstrom. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. To pledge your support for Bibleline, give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. We had a wonderful weekend. We had people getting saved, which we seemed to have every week, which is wonderful. We’re just so thankful. We pray for loss to be saved. And we pray that if you’re listening today and you’re not sure about your salvation, that you would trust Jesus Christ as your Savior and receive the wonderful gift of everlasting life.
Sometimes we don’t recognize what a wonderful gift this is. So our early explorers were always searching for the fountain of life where they could drink this water and live on and on and on. And there’s lots of different places where they claim they’ve had it. I went over to St. Augustine, Florida and they have supposedly the fountain of life over there. I drank that water and it didn’t do any good. But you know, when you trust Jesus Christ as a Savior, according to the Bible, He provides water that you would never thirst again.
He supplies your needs forever and ever and ever and ever by simply trusting in His death and shed blood as the only means of your salvation. Amazingly, the majority of those who claim to be Christian are really trusting in themselves to get them to heaven. They’re trusting in what they’re doing for God to be saved. And it’s not what we do for God, it’s what God did for us in Christ. God provided our salvation. It is HIS gift to us.
Somebody the other day was talking to and said, yeah, I gave my life to Christ. And I said, well, that’s wonderful, but that doesn’t save you. You see, it’s God who gave Jesus his life. God took on flesh and gave his life. For us, you giving your life to Christ won’t get you one inch closer to heaven. Well, I gave my life to Christ years ago. Well, isn’t that wonderful? That won’t get you to heaven. You can’t give anything to God, including your life, to get you to heaven.
You have to trust that God gave His life in the person of Christ in order to pay for your sins. How can people get it so backward? For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever what believeth in Him, that is, would trust in Christ that they would not perish but have everlasting life. One of my favorite verses is here in the book of Romans. It says in verse 10 in chapter 5 of Romans, for if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much for being reconciled we shall be saved by His life.
You know, Christ died to pay for your sins and paid for them in their entirety, past, present, and future. But not only that, because He came back from the dead, because he’s alive forever more he can make good on the promise that he made to you. Nobody else can do that. You know, Muhammad can’t help you because he’s still dead. Buddha is not going to be able to help you because he’s still dead. Confucius can’t help you because he’s still dead.
And on and on and on we could go. They can’t help you. Jesus Christ left an empty tomb to let us know that he is gone. He’s risen. He’s alive. And because he’s alive, he can make good on the promise to save you. You know, if you wanted to live forever, wouldn’t it make sense to talk to somebody who came back from the dead? It sounds like that would be reasonable. And Jesus says, I am He that was dead and yet I am alive forevermore.
Christ came back from the dead. He’s alive forevermore. And Christ died for all of our sins past, present and future. In fact, it says here in Romans chapter 5, therefore being justified by faith. We have present tense peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Actually the tense should read here in Romans 5-1, therefore having been justified. This is something that took place in the past. We are to focus back on the cross of Calvary when God made the payment for your sin and mine.
And when we trust in that past payment that He made for our sins, it says we are already justified. And as a result, we have peace with God. We can be assured of going to heaven. We have eternal life and it is a done deal I am so glad I can share this good news with others. I was raised in church. I was confirmed. I was baptized I was homogenized. I was pasteurized. I was capsized. I was Simonized. I mean if there was a process to be offered in my church, I I experienced it all, but I never was saved.
Nobody ever told me that my sins were all paid for, that all I had to do was receive that payment by trusting Jesus Christ as the one who died for me. We’re about ready to do that second half hour and we hope that you’ll stay with us for this next half hour. Would you like to help Bibleline continue in your area? You can! We hope that you’re learning with us as you listen to Bibleline and hear real life questions. With scriptural answers from Dr. Hank Lindstrom, please make plans to join us and open your Bible as we also present in-depth studies covering a variety of biblical topics. Now let’s return to our question and answer segment and then you’ll hear more Bible teaching from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We have Liz in Tampa, Florida. Liz, welcome to Bibleline. I’m here. Hi. Just have a quick question.
I’ve been listening to the conversation. when uh… believers attend these charismatic churches that you’re speaking out of the speaking time uh… except all the manifestations that go with it do they do they lose their salvation no nobody can lose their salvation if you genuinely say but obviously you become you know off uh… sidetracked it’s amazing to me that that the people that do the gibberish their main mission is to get other people to do the gibberish that’s only a a rabbit trail going the wrong direction of the gospel in mark sixteen fifteen uh…
the the great commission is to go into all the world of preach the gospel to every creature and that’s where most churches are failing today if we could get all every church to get online with a great commission i think maybe we could turn this country around but uh… very few churches are are doing that most churches have become uh… social units or social clubs and uh… they are uh… kind of exclusive and and they’re not trying to reach out to the world that needs to hear the gospel and they’re not proclaiming the gospel.
Usually the message they give is a perversion of the gospel because I was raised in church for 18 years and I heard all kinds of different things that I had to do to go to heaven but I never heard that Jesus paid it all and if I simply trusted him that he would save me and I’d go to heaven based on what he did for me not what I would do for him. Yeah, I guess my question was when I was thinking was you said that you thought that they were basically possessed by demons if they, you know, I said some are I think most of them are just following the peer pressure.
You’re being expected to do the gibberish and and and I’ve I’ve bought things from all these different preachers. I have one lessons on 10 lessons on how to speak in tongues by Carl Strader that used to be over there in Lakeland. And basically he suggested several things everything for putting marbles in your mouth and trying to speak with them in your mouth or holding on your Adam’s apple and jiggling it while you try to speak. And obviously if it’s a gift, you don’t need to do any of that nonsense to get it.
Right. Or the laughing revival. Yeah. And so some of these people are just following, you know, whatever is being expected of them and they do it. But Isaiah does talk about a gibberish that’s the real gibberish that is done by the witch doctor and the medium and the satanic seance and and different religions around the world. And that oftentimes is from the devil himself and demonically inspired. Okay. Well, thank you very much. You’re very welcome. No, not everybody is demon possessed.
I don’t look around for demons everywhere, but some of it is really genuinely from the devil and most everybody else is just being copycats and trying to copy what the others are doing. But the real gift is given by God and his ceased. It was to speak a known language, a particular dialect of that language without any training. We’re going to go to North Port, Florida and we’re going to talk to Georgia in North Port, Florida down south of Tampa.
Welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Good morning. I was wondering in the Old Testament, it tells you to multiply and be fruitful. Now in this day and age, I’m wondering if there’s anything in the New Testament where we don’t want to have these big families like everyone used to have. And is it sinful not to? Well, you know, I don’t think God intended for that to happen. And sadly, today we are seeing, I think, one or 1.5 children per family.
And that’s, I think, not what God intended. believe that what God said in Genesis is still true today. And that doesn’t mean that you have to actively say I’m going to have a family. I know my dad was one of nine children and many of the families of my grandparents age were many, many children and they It was so wonderful to have so many uncles and aunts growing up because of that and it was so great for the family.
But today a lot of people are going through life and having no children and they have nobody to be with them and they get older and nobody to enjoy in the way that got intended I think families to enjoy one another so that’s kind of sad. scripture in the new testament saying anything one way or the other right it doesn’t say that but obviously implies you know uh… parents are gonna have children and uh… but lots of old testament verses uh…
it says blessed is a man who has his quiver full of talking about children in the song and uh… and uh… and uh… certainly it’s uh… blessing from god but no i don’t know the first in the testament tells you to multiply and have lots of kids okay thank you all right and uh… we’re not going to go to uh… darnell and uh… darnell is in st petersburg and darnell welcome to my mind you are on the earth they had a daughter had good yet the other topic of tone arm i know god is able to do everything anytime that you want to but i just want to share the front back with you there were armed two instances one time i was witnessing to a home to a lady who was jewish and i would you know she was going through some things and i thought that arm
that you know Christ was part of, you know, through Christ all things are possible. So she told me, she said, well, sir, I’m Jewish, I don’t believe that crisis for you. This lady was a archeologist. She was being a seminar down at USF one day. And she said, she found this thing that had, that said, she told me in Hebrew, but she said it said, David, King of the Jews, but she said in Hebrew, and I had automatically said it because that’s what it’s like.
So the lady looked at me, she said, well, how did you know that? I don’t know man, but just found right there. And there was another time there was a guy, he was a Jehovah witness, I was going to the store one day, I seen him reading the Fox Tower thing, and they’re like, you want the minister to him? But I walked by this guy, I just told him, I said, you’re the one that had you doing that chip on walking.
And as I’m walking down the road, this guy pulls up behind me, and he asked me, do you speak French? I was like, no sir. He said, man, you just spoke to me at perfect French. And I looked at him like you were crazy to have to know. So I just kept on walking. But as the scripture says, that you know what’s a calm, that’s a calm learn. And that’s what I just wanna know, is it possible that God can, you know, let me think it’s happening at different times in the person life, because I know these people were straight unbelief.
Yeah, well, I don’t believe it’s happening at all today. And I believe that the gift with C’s first Corinthians, 13, 8 through 10 tells us it would come to an utter and complete halt and it did. What we have today is of course, Satan trying to play with our minds and to confuse us and and brings us a counterfeit, which is a gibberish, which is not really the true gift at all. We have an anonymous caller from who knows where, no city and no name, and we’re going to tackle this one.
Anonymous, welcome to Bible Ant. Statement Dr. Lindstrom about this tongue thing. If they read in their book, and the Bible, and Corinthians it clearly says that the greatest gift of all of these is love, and if you don’t have love, you don’t have nothing. They’re the part there, and Corinthians where it says that they take the whole chapter in context at the end of the chapter it clearly states that God said he would rather you prophesied and to speak in an unknown tongue, like 10,000 words in an unknown tongue, five words in a known tongue would be better than those 10,000, but the greatest of them is love, and I just wanted to share that with everybody who’s getting confused about the tongue.
Thank you and have a good day. Thank you. You did a good job. And you’re right. And Paul said that. He said, I’d rather speak five words in a language that you can hear to understand than 10,000 words in a language you would not understand. And you know, you can say a lot in five words. If you gave me just an opportunity to have a large crowd and just say five words, I would say, trust Christ and be saved.
Well, that’s pretty powerful, isn’t it? Trust Christ and be saved. words and you can lead people to Christ with that. Couldn’t that be great? We have Bill in Bradenton, Florida. Bill, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Thank you, Dr. Hank. How are you today? Five. Bless your ministry, sir. My question centers around about accepting and not rejecting Jesus as God and it has to do trying to connect into total depravity and Romans 1 18 through 20. in Romans 2, 14, 15, it speaks as you well know about the fact that God writes it on our hearts and that we have no excuse for not knowing.
And at the same time, those that say we are dead and that we have total depravity. How do you balance having the ability to accept, not reject? That goes along with what’s written on my heart. Well, of course, yeah, the Bible, of course, tells us the Holy Spirit is convicting every man of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and obviously God is seeking us. And as we respond in seeking Him, we will find Him. And the Bible says that although we are spiritually dead, the dead can hear…
hear the Word of God. The Word of God is living in powerful and penetrating. It says in Hebrews 4, 12, between the soul and the spirit and between the joints and marrow of our bones, that the Word of God cuts right through all of that. And in John 5, we have a wonderful verse where Jesus tells us that his word is the word of God. He says here, barely, verily I say unto you, he that heareth my word. And believe it on him that sent me has everlasting life shall not come into condemnation, but has passed from death unto life.
Now notice what he says about his words. Verily, verily I say unto you, the hour is coming, and now is when the dead shall hear The voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. He’s talking about people that are spiritually dead, that you can penetrate their soul with the Word of God. They can hear it, they can believe it, and when they believe it, they live, they have eternal life, and they’re saved. And so this is what is so exciting.
You know, when I take the Bible, and I share with somebody what the Bible says, what Christ said in the Word of God, that message is living in powerful and cuts right to their soul and they can respond and believe and trust the Lord. I had a lady this week and said, you saved me through Bible and radio. Well, I didn’t save anybody, but Christ saved her when she heard his words and believed them and became saved. But you know, I hear that all the time of people getting saved by hearing the Word of God and their spiritually dead, but they come alive when they hear the word.
So total. that’s right and they can still hear the word and believe on the gospel of Jesus Christ so I have to give that gospel out even though they’re spiritually dead they can’t believe okay so I was wondering because I spoke to a couple of different they said the tool of they can agree and they can’t was surprised at some of the ones that said they believe in and total depravity. It’s clarifying and I know it’s a mystery. Well I can’t understand.
Thank you so much. I can’t agree on any of the five points of Calvinism as they are taken to the extreme where the unbeliever has no chance that it’s not by his belief or acceptance of Christ but it’s because they’re already chosen and saved by God that they believe is a consequence. They got it backwards. We believe and then we become saved, Calvinism teaches that God chooses you, saves you, and you believe as a consequence. That concludes today’s question and answer segment.

Now join us as we return to today’s teaching series. When they were coming to the house they saw what? The infant, no. They saw the young child. Jesus may have actually greeted them at the door. Mary, his mother, and they fell down in worship Mary. No, it doesn’t say that either. Are you ready now? They didn’t, they fell down in worship Joseph. No, they didn’t worship him either. They fell down and worshiped him Jesus. They had it right. They were wise.
They recognized that Jesus was God, and he rightly deserves worship. And when they’d opened their treasures, they said, Mary, we’ve got a gift for you. And Joseph, look up what we have for you. And then they gave gifts to each other as the wise men began to exchange the gifts that they had brought. No, it doesn’t say that either, does it? Notice when they got out their treasures, they presented all the gifts to Jesus. For our modern celebration has certainly changed, hasn’t it?
Here every gift was given to Christ. There’s no mention of them giving gifts to Mary or Joseph. Or to each other, our modern tradition has departed, hasn’t it severely? And so they gave gifts to Christ. And they gave gold and frankincense and myrrh. Because there are three gifts mentioned here, or three types of gifts mentioned, that’s probably where they got three wise men, or three kings. But I don’t believe that that is an indication of that at all. So here it says they gave gold and gold in the Bible is a symbol of the deity.
of Christ. In the tabernacle, in the temple, in the furniture, it was wood overlaid with gold, the wood spoke of His humanity, the gold spoke of His deity, and all the furniture in the tabernacle in the temple spoke of Jesus. It was all a witness of Him. And we find that frankincense was used in the incense, even in the holies of the temple, in the tabernacle when prayers would be brought from the people to God. And it was a picture of God’s holiness and the fact that God would hear our prayers.
And Mer was used in embalming. It seems like such an odd gift to give to a baby. What if you went to a friend’s child’s birthday? They’re two years old. And you give them a couple of courts of embalming fluid. The mother would say, what are you doing? What kind of a statement are you making? How strange that would be. But really it was a picture of the fact that Christ would die. And Mer was used in embalming and perhaps a picture even at this time of the fact that it was known that He would die.
The Messiah would die. The Messiah would give His life to pay for the sins of the world. Verse 12, being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod. They departed into their own country another way. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto Joseph in a dream saying, Arise and take the young child. There’s that term again, young growing developing child, a probably a two-year-old, and his mother, and flee into Egypt.
And be thou there until I bring the word for Herod will seek to destroy the young child, or will seek the young child to destroy him. Notice, young child occurs twice in verse 13. Also, it’s interesting here that God always directs the family through the man. Notice the angel didn’t say, Mary, get your husband and the baby and go down to Egypt. It tells us here, Joseph, take the child and his mother and take her down to Egypt. And so in a family relationship, that doesn’t mean the woman doesn’t have any input, but the man is the one that’s held responsible for decisions spiritually.
And Joseph was to make that decision. And Joseph was told, take his mother and the young child and flee into Egypt. And you Joseph take charge and I will be there until I bring word for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. And when he rose he took the young child there is that word again and his mother by night and departed into Egypt. And was there until the death of Herod that it might be what? Fulfilled, which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet.
There are hundreds of prophecies in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in the new. And this is one of many. And this is a prophecy given in the Prophet Hosea, out of Egypt, have I called my son. Let’s go back there for just a minute and look at Hosea, chapter 11. And I’ll give you the page number whenever I arrive that might help you get their speedily. Hosea, chapter 11, page 927. Hosea chapter 11. It says, when Israel was a child, then I loved him and called my son out of Egypt.
Many times there is a double meaning in prophecy, and I think it’s an interesting one here. Hosea page 927, Hosea 11-1, when Israel was a child, then I loved him and called my son out of Egypt. Now think of what happened. Israel began with Abraham in the Promised Land. He had a Sunday music, he had a Sunday music, Jacob’s name was changed to Israel. Jacob had 12 sons which became the 12 tribes of Israel. One of those sons they were very jealous of, that was Joseph.
The brothers sold Joseph to a traveling caravan and he was taken down to Egypt. You remember the story. He was falsely accused and thrown into prison. The pharaoh had a dream. The pharaoh was told there’s a guy in prison that knows how to give the answers to dreams. And so Joseph was called before pharaoh to interpret the dream. The dream had to do with seven fat years and seven lean years. It was in the dream, all these fat cows and fat stalks of corn and all that.
and then seven years of skinny cows and skinny stalks of corn and no food. And so he interpreted the dream and Pharaoh said, I’m gonna put you in charge. So during those seven years Joseph built greeneries all around Egypt and stored food and stockpiled all the food during those years. During the seven years of famine there was plenty of food to provide for the people in Egypt and lands beyond. The famine struck hard in Israel and so his 11 brothers and his mom and dad back in Israel said, We need to go down to Egypt because there’s food down there.
there. They wound up coming before little Joseph, the brother that they had so despised and were so jealous of. And of course at first they didn’t recognize who he was, but then he revealed himself as being the little brother. And he obviously could have struck out at them, but he knew that God had a reason in what had happened and that God had turned their evil toward him into good. And God used him to spare this little teeny nation.
When And they went down to Egypt, there were only 70 people. So it was almost like Israel was in embryo form. In Egypt, it was like they were in the womb, and God allowed them to have the best of the land. And for the next 430 years, they grew and developed into a people. And then when Moses came along, he led them out of the Promised Land, and he brought them out of Egypt. That’s what it’s referring to here.
When Israel was a child, I loved him and called my son out of Egypt. You might remember when Moses and God had their conversation, God told Moses, tell Pharaoh, to let my son go. Israel was considered God’s son. And so here his son was to be allowed to go. But the greater picture was the son that Israel would produce. That would be the Messiah. And what is interesting is that Jesus, also in his infancy, was taken down to Egypt.
And then he is brought back out of Egypt and the double meaning is fulfilled. Not only did Israel in its infancy come out of Egypt, but also Jesus in his infancy comes out of Egypt and the prophecy is fulfilled. Thanks for listening to Bibleline with Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Be sure to tune in to another edition of Bibleline from Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida. I am so glad I can share this good news with others. I was raised in church. I was confirmed. I was baptized. I was homogenized. I was pasteurized. I was capsized. I was I was colonized. I mean if there was a process to be offered in my church, I experienced it all, but I never was saved.
Nobody ever told me that my sins were all paid for, that all I had to do was receive that payment by trusting Jesus Christ as the one who died for me. Boy, the night I heard that I said, that’s good news. And I trusted Jesus Christ as Savior at 18. That was the most important decision I’ve ever made in my life. My whole eternity is based upon that decision. If you die without Christ, you’re in deep trouble. The Bible talks about an eternal hell, a place where there is torment day and night forever and ever.
The Bible says in Revelation 14 that those in hell will have no rest day or night. Can you imagine? No rest day nor night forever and ever. I think that’s one of the worst things. If you can’t fall asleep and you’re definitely and you’re extremely tired, can you imagine what that’s like? You just can’t get to sleep. at the same time, according to the Bible, you’ll be in torment, in flame, in fire, day and night, forever and ever, and there will be no rest, day nor night, in hell.
You won’t be able to say, hey, I want to take a break. Can I step out into an air-conditioned room and maybe cool off for a little bit and then I’ll go back? You can’t do that. There is no rest, day or night. And it says in Revelation 14 that the smoke of their torment ascended up forever and ever and ever. It says in Revelation 20 verse 10, and they were tormented day and night forever and ever. Now I don’t like those words.
I didn’t write the Bible. I am not claiming that I had anything to do with writing the Bible. Obviously it was written long before ever came along, but that’s what the Bible teaches. And the Bible has never been wrong. And if a person who dies without Christ does not go to this hell that’s described in the Bible, it will be the first time the Bible is ever wrong. And I don’t think I’d want to gamble with things like that.
Boy, that’s why I plead with people to trust Jesus Christ as Savior, to recognize that as long as they’re trying to work their way to heaven and they’re trying to save themselves, they’ll not be saved because you, in order to be saved, you have to simply stop trying to save yourself and simply trust in the Savior Jesus to save you. I love what Dr. M.R. Dohon said many years ago he was the founder of the Radio Bible class which still continues today with his grandson leading the organization MR.
Dahan II or Marty Dahan. And MR. Dahan said, God will not save a man who is trying to be saved. That stopped me in my tracks. What? God will not save a man who is trying to be saved? But he continued and he said, God will only save a man who is trusting to be saved. as long as you’re trying, working, climbing, putting forth your effort, you cannot be saved. You have to come to the place where you say, I cannot save myself.
And you simply trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ that He paid it all. Because unless you’ve done that, you’ve never trusted Christ. You’ve never understood what it means to trust Christ as your Savior. You see when you trust Him, it means it’s exclusively Christ that you’re trusting in nothing else. You no longer gonna trust in anything that you’re doing. You’re trusting in Christ alone is because he is sufficient to save you eternally. He fully completely paid your sin debt.
