I’m Tom Perry, and you are tuned in to Bibleline, where you’ll hear a combination of teachings from the Word of God and real-life questions. With answers taken straight from the Bible, we pray that Bibleline will be glorifying to God, as well as educational for you. Bibleline is a continuation of Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s ministry of spreading the good news of salvation throughout the world, salvation by simply trusting Jesus Christ alone as your Savior. We hope that you will join us for this first by verse study of the book of Matthew as we explore topics such as Jesus foretelling his death and resurrection, his rejection by the Jewish leaders, the many parables told by Jesus, and more.
Now join us for Dr. Lynchstrom’s teaching for today as we turn to the book of Matthew chapter 5. Verse 2, “…and he opened his mouth and taught them saying, verse 3, blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” I believe it’s talking about people who recognize that they’re sinners in need of a Savior, and these are the ones that come to know Christ and therefore they go to heaven. Let me give you a wonderful cross-reference from the book of Isaiah.
chapter 66 to your left it’ll be on page 770 Isaiah 66. Look if you will at verse two for all those things have my hand made and all those things have been sayeth the Lord Isaiah 66 verse 2 but to this man will I look even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembleth at my word.” Isn’t that a great verse? To whom does the Lord look? To this man will I look even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembleth at my word.
So the person who recognizes his true worth, his true condition, that he’s wretched and lost and condemned and headed for hell, that’s the one that will find the Lord and the Lord will look to Him and give Him salvation. So happy is what the word blessed means. Happy is the person that is poor in spirit. For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. It’s amazing, I think, one day those who have been poor in this world have oftentimes found Christ and are rich in Him, while those that are rich will become poor in that their loss will be for all eternity, as they’ll be separated from God and hell many times, because they trusted in their riches in that Christ and have died without the Lord.
So blessed are the poor. Sometimes there’s a plus in some of these things where we recognize we have need, we recognize dependency, we recognize that we have to turn to the Lord. Sometimes it’s through adversity that we call and cry out to the living God. Verse four, blessed are they that mourn, For they shall be comforted.” The comforter is the Holy Spirit, isn’t He? And as believers, the comforter comes and dwells in us. And when we mourn, we are comforted by the Holy Spirit that comes in every believer to dwell in us forever.
Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. And we believe it is those who are not weak, but meek, humble, recognizing who God is who Christ is that will wind up being here when we have the Millennial Kingdom beginning and also the new heavens and new earth that were the ones who will inherit the earth. Verse 6, blessed are happy, which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. We have to be as righteous as God is to have eternal life, for those that seek after and hunger for that kind of righteousness will be filled as the Lord is the one who supplies it.
Christ is the one who satisfies our thirst. He says, I, if you only asked of me, would give you water that you had never thirst again. I give everlasting life or water that is able to provide everlasting life. Christ also satisfies our hunger. He says, I’m the bread of life. Neither believe it on me has. He is the one that satisfies our thirst. He is the one that satisfies our hunger in a way that physical food cannot eat all the physical food you want, yet you will still die.
But if you have Christ as the bread of life and take of the water of life that He offers, you will live forever. It says in verse 7, “‘Blessed are happy are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.'” As to do with the Christian life, and I believe that as we love and care for others and treat them with mercy, that they will respond with, in like kind. Verse 8, “‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
And again, I believe the ones that are pure in heart are those that find the Lord and find salvation and will one day see the Lord in their new bodies. Verse 9 says, Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. It doesn’t say we become God’s children by being peacemakers, but those who make peace are called the children of God. And obviously the major peacemaking role we have, I believe, is to bring people peace with God.
Romans 5 1, it says, therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God. So the lost person is an enemy of God and alienated from God, separated from God. And when we bring salvation to them, we have made peace between them and God. And the peacemakers are called, the children of God. People will recognize that you’re one of God’s. Verse 10, blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. And this is of course talking about rewards that will occur.
Notice verse 11 says, blessed are happy are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. Because you are standing up for Christ and witnessing for him if people persecute you revile you, say all kinds of evil things against you falsely. It says in verse 12, Rejoice and be exceeding glad for great is your reward in heaven. For so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.
So basically if you are going through troubles and trials because of your witness for Christ, the rewards are mounting up. Rejoice and be exceeding glad for great is your reward in heaven. So think about it. whenever you go through troubles. Any time we go through trials or difficulties, I believe the level of play is increased and the level of reward is increased as well. So how we respond to life situations will affect how we are rewarded in heaven. And if the level of play gets more difficult and you’re able to live up to that and hold your ground and be the witness that God would have you to be and handle those situations in a way that would be pleasing to God, your rewards are jacked up incredibly in heaven.
So whenever you face trials, think of that. Wow, here’s an opportunity for me to score big with rewards in heaven. If I handle this properly, if I handle this in a way that is pleasing to God, if I get through this difficulty like God would have me get through this difficulty, the rewards that I’m going to receive for that are going to be great. So see it as an opportunity, not as a disappointment or a thing that would discourage you.
But as it says here, rejoice. And you know these early believers really believe that, didn’t they? Look over at you, Acts chapter 5 for just a moment. And look at what we see with the early believers. Well, the apostles in Acts chapter 5, page 1156, were beaten because of their witness for Christ, because of their testimony and it says here in verse 40, to him they agreed that is this counsel that wanted to kill the disciples here. When they had called the disciples and beaten them, verse 40 of Acts 5, commanded them that they should not speak in the name of Jesus and let them go.
And here they are released now. They were commanded now not to speak in the name of Christ and they departed from the presence of the council rejoicing. Isn’t that what we just saw there Matthew? Rejoicing that they were kind of worthy to suffer shame for his name. Did they shut up? No. Daily in the temple and in every house they cease not, they cease not, they cease not to teach and preach Jesus Christ. So wow, look at the early disciples.
They say when the going gets tough, the tough get going and as believers I think that also was true. When you encounter difficulty, God wants us to rise to the occasion. And so if you are persecuted for your faith, hopefully you’re not persecuted because of how you behave or because of things that you bring about. But if we treat people with love and kindness and present Christ in a loving way and people reject that and persecute you because of it, rejoice, verse 12 of chapter 5 of Matthew, rejoice and be exceeding glad for great as your reward in heaven.
Reads in the book of Acts, you’ll find several incidents where you have believers doing that. You’re listening to Bible Eye, a teaching ministry that’s dedicated to delivering the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many items available from our resource center, such as Dr. Hankel-Instrom’s DVD teachings on the topics of predestination, false gospels, and is Lordship Salvation a counterfeit gospel? In addition to many others, when you call 1-800-576-3771. Now we’re going to take a break from our teaching to listen to Dr.
Lindstrom answering questions from callers and then we’ll rejoin today’s teaching. We’re now going to Olivia. Olivia is in clear water and Olivia, welcome to my blood and you’re on the air. Hi, Dr. Lindstrom. Yes. This is Olivia. Anyway, I really enjoy your program. Well thank you. And I’m like the saying, if I had my anxiety, I would have to sample. Well, it’s not great. I do drive, but I’m 80, 40 years old. Oh, man. Oh, yes. And I would then try to drive all that I would love to come.
But what I want to ask you is this. I heard a pastor say that we are not to say our father in prayer. Say that prayer was given to the apostles. And if we say that prayer, we are not questioned because Christ had not been crucified when he told them to say that prayer. Well, that’s misleading. The prayer is really a prayer about the future Kingdom that God is offering to Israel. And so therefore it’s really not for now.
It says, Our Father would start in heaven and hell would be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Now the Kingdom is what will occur seven years after we leave at the Rapture. And it says, I will be done on earth as it is in heaven. That hasn’t happened yet, but will happen during the millennium when actually the believers, you and I will come back with Christ seven years after the rapture and rule and reign with him. And the heavens will be ruling over the earth and the earth will be at peace and things will be done on earth as they are in heaven.
That hasn’t happened yet, but that prayer is a wonderful prayer, but it’s not really to be prayed for now, but it’s not because of the reasons that pastor gave you. That’s what he said he said that we are not Christians Christ hadn’t been crucified and We’re not before well that that’s misleading everybody who is a believer is a Christian and The prayer is addressed to our father now. You can’t pray to God as your father Unless you have been born again and when you are born again You were born into God’s family and God becomes your father and you become his son or daughter at the moment of belief But if you’re an unbeliever, God is your Creator and you’re His creation.
But God is not your Father to your born again. So it’s talking to people who are born again and only they can legitimately address God as their Father. Okay. Well, I’m recent with John the Church, but I haven’t been fellowship in the Church yet. But for some reason, when I go there, I don’t ever hear the preacher preaching about God. You know about you can be safe. I never hear any of that. I know they always seem to be engaging other things, you know.
And I don’t know for sure whether I should be selling a ship. I think you’re in the wrong church. If they’re not preaching about Jesus and about the word and about it. Yeah, right. He doesn’t say anything about the word. I mean, I don’t know. It seems to me that most of the churches here are doing things that are out there in the world instead of doing things that God tell them that you know that that was the new.
And that’s a shame and that’s what we were talking about yesterday about how that in the last days they would not want to hear the word of God they would want to have their ears tickled and they talk about everything but. But that’s right and then the people want to be happy they don’t want to hear about the other things that we really should know you know. Exactly. I don’t know, so right now I’ve been going but I don’t go there often just every once in a while.
Well, find somebody young who has a nice car and get him to drive you over here to us. I got my phone and I’m clean. I don’t know. I don’t think he’s safe, but I can’t get him to do anything like that. He doesn’t believe it’s faster. He doesn’t believe that. I said, well, you’ve got to believe, Kenneth. You know, yeah, bring nobody because he got a van out of car. Oh boy. Well, yes, he’s a retired teacher. Well, you could bring a whole load then.
Well, I was. I wish that could come over to the call. He has a computer, but I don’t know anything about computers. And at my age, I think, I’m going to go to the hotel. Well, I don’t know about that. So, Olivia, God bless you. And thank you for calling in today. We have Derek in Miami, Florida. And Derek, welcome to Bibleline you are on the air. OK, yeah, thank you. I’m a little confused in the interpretation of the word of Malacca.
Just bring the whole type into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house but then i see a constrict or a contradiction on my view force seven when jesus was tempted by the devil work that it says jesus that to him on the other hand it is written you shall not put the lord mark hiya it used to the word test me and i’m happy with that usual not testing well i think there’s a different idea there one is the temp god by uh…
trying to violate his word and the other is to test to see that he will prove his word to you as he has promised the blessing if you give. And Malachi is saying, prove me or test me. And of course, the details that he uses that many times that we’re to prove what we believe, whether it’s of God or not. And we’re to test it. It says that we are to test what we hear by different preachers against the word of God to see whether it’s true were not.
That’s not the same thing as trying to violate God’s word or to cause God to violate his own word, but rather to let him demonstrate that his word is true. I hope that makes it clear. It’s not the same thing. Okay, Derek. We’re not under the Old Testament law anymore. Of course, in Malachi, they were to bring the store offering to the temple. He’s talking by his house there and that house is the temple in Jerusalem which no longer exists.
He was destroyed in 80s, 70s and no longer exists, but there is a third temple coming and that will be built right after the Rapture and the Antichrist will first enter that temple and proclaim to be God. And then at the end of the seven years of tribulation after the Rapture, Christ will come back and cleanse that temple after he defeats the Antichrist and set up his kingdom and rule the earth from there. If you trusted Christ as your Savior, there’s only one way to be saved, only one way to go to heaven, and that is Jesus Himself.
Jesus said in John 14, 6, I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me. No man, no woman, no child. No one can come to the Father except by Jesus Christ. If you reject Christ, my friend, you have no chance. Because there’s no other way. There’s no other way. Peter said it so clearly at Acts 4, 12. He said, neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven, given among men whereby we must be saved.
Most churches teach works for salvation. It’s sometimes very subtle, but you have to do something to be saved according to most churches when the Bible says, you can do nothing. It’s not of yourself that our best, righteous deeds are filthy rags inside of God. Isaiah 64, 6. And you have nothing to offer God. I have nothing to offer God. You don’t either. I don’t care who you are. I don’t care where you attend or what you do. You don’t have a thing to offer God.
The Bible says your best, righteous deeds are filthy rags inside of God. You have to come just as you are. You have to simply recognize your need that you’re lost and headed for hell and you need a Savior. Jesus Christ is that one and when you come to Him by faith, trusting that He made the full payment for your sin was buried and rose again from the dead, God saves you. So most important decision you’ll ever make in your life.
I hope you’ve made that decision to trust Christ and Savior. You can do it right now. You can whisper a prayer. You could say something like as follows. I got on the center, admit it, we all are. But right now, what I just heard made a lot of sense, and I trust Jesus Christ right now. As the one who died and paid for my sins, in full on the cross by his death and shed blood was buried and rose again from the dead.
And I trust Jesus Christ right now to save me to give me the gift of eternal life. And the moment you do that, God saves you. We have Wayne in Tampa, Florida and Wayne welcome to Bibleline You Are On The Air. Good morning. I guess I want your input on a question that sometimes rises in my church, other churches, which is how to deal with people, believers that will speak the truth, but we question whether or not they’re necessarily saved as it comes to certain issues.
Let me give you an example. I’ve heard you talk about that you’re one who sort of questions the salvation of a CS Lewis, that same CS Lewis rates, growth some great apologetic works. I know you’re familiar with the whole Lord, liar, lunatic perspective. And of course we have Catholics who are very, very strong on certain moral issues like abortion. And sometimes it’s hard to differentiate what’s the place. We know we can’t accept them like we would a brother or sister in Christ per se because there’s questions about where their faith is.
On the other hand, sometimes they do right truth and it should be applied. I just want some of your perspective on that. Okay. Wayne was asking about different people that might write some truth, but yet I have not really embraced all of the truth. Here’s C.S. Lewis. C.S. Lewis believed in a workspace salvation. If you are trusting in your works and believe you could lose it as C.S. Lewis did, I would say you’re probably not saved. He asked the priest to come to his side at his death and perform last rites.
What is last rites all about? where your last-minute sins are paid for by the priest coming and offering mass at your bedside. And obviously that’s a workspace salvation where salvation is gained in increments where you’re saved from mass to mass to mass to mass. According to the Bible in Hebrews chapter 10 verse 14, by one offering Christ is perfected forever the believer. So once you become a believer, you’re perfected forever. You’re saved forever. And you don’t have to be saved in increments.
And we have a ton of quotes on him. But he believed in evolution. He believed in theistic evolution and believed the Bible was a contradictory, scientific errors and on and on and on we go. C.S. Lewis had a lot of problems. But mainly, and where we separate here, Wayne, is on salvation. If they don’t have salvation right, even the Jehovah’s Witnesses have some truths and so do all the cults. But it’s that plan of salvation that if they don’t have that right, and if they don’t have the person of Christ right, they don’t recognize his deity, that Jesus Christ is God.
And then salvation was holy and completely paid for by Him, they will not be saved. And obviously there are many, as we just had a caller a little bit ago, that believes you have to be water baptized and you have to live the Christian life in order to be saved. And they don’t even realize that they’re saying that what they do or what they do not do will determine whether they’re saved or not, which is works, and they won’t be saved at all.
The only way anybody will ever be saved is like the dying thief who obviously couldn’t attend a church, couldn’t be water baptized, couldn’t do anything really in the Christian life he had minutes left to live and he simply trusted Christ and Jesus said, today they’ll be with me in paradise. So that’s really what’s going on there. We hope that you’re learning with us. That’s 1-800-576-3771. If you have your Bible open there, we’ll turn over to John’s gospel, chapter 8. And Jesus said in John 8 in verse 24, He said, in John 8, 24, and I just had my page stick, and I couldn’t get to it. Here it is, John 8, 24, I said, therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins, for if you believe not, Believe not that I am, you shall die in your sins. This is an incredible verse.
When Jesus said, if you believe not that I am, he’s referring to the fact that he’s the God of the Old Testament, the God of creation, the God of the Bible, the God that created the universe, when God appeared to Moses at the burning bush, you can read it for yourself in Exodus chapter 3. You’ll find that God identified himself to Moses by his name, I am. I am. God, whenever He intercepts time, always appears in the present tense.
He never says I was. He never says I will be or I want to be. He says I am. And He is the God of the Old Testament and He identifies Himself there in Exodus 3 as being the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. He’s the God alone that can save the God who alone created the universe, the only God. He said, there is none God, no God beside me, none other God in the universe. He is the only God.
And he says here, Jesus says, if you do not believe that I am that Jesus is God, you’re going to die in your sins. What does that mean? That all the sins that Jesus paid for. He is the only one who has provided for your redemption. Jesus Christ took every sin that you would ever commit in your entire lifetime and He paid for them at the cross of Calvary. But guess what? If you die not having trusted Christ as your Savior, all of those sins will be upon you and you will wind up in hell.
You will die in your sins. That means you will die with your sins, not forgiven because you reject the provision and the forgiveness that God offers through Christ at Calvary. Wow, don’t make that mistake. I tell people that don’t believe on Christ, just don’t stop breathing. That’s right, don’t stop breathing because as soon as you stop breathing, you’re going to be a believer, but it’ll be too Everybody in hell believes in Jesus Christ. Did you know that? Everybody in hell believes in hell, obviously.
Everybody in hell believes the Bible to be the Word of God. All you have to do is read the story in Luke 16. You have two men that die, rich man. And guess what? He all of a sudden becomes interested in prayer. He prays for his five brethren that are still alive up on the earth and he didn’t want them to come to that place of flame and torment. He believes in evangelism. He wanted somebody to go, Lazarus in particular, to go witness to his brothers.
He didn’t want them to die and be lost eternally. He believed, in the Scriptures, he believed that the writings of Moses and the Testament prophets were the Word of God. All of that too late. He believed in the punishment that will come upon the loss as he was in flame and torment. He recognized that salvation was something that God provided that he had rejected and would be separated from God forever and ever and ever. My friend don’t make that mistake.
If you’re listening and you’re not sure about where you’re going to spend eternity, you probably don’t have it. You’re probably not going. Let me just summarize what it is. God says we’re all sinners. Every one of us have sinned and have come short of the glory of God. The Bible says if you paid for that sin it would be hell. There is no other payment. That’s right. You can’t put it on your MasterCard or Visa. You can’t pay for it by your works or good deeds.
You can’t pay for it by being religious or going to church. There’s only one pay for sin. The wages of sin according to the Bible is death, which ultimately means the second death will you be cast into the eternal lake of fire. My friend, you don’t want to pay for your sin. But guess what? God provided a Savior Jesus Christ paid your sin debt in full by his death and shed blood at the cross. And when you simply receive that payment by faith, trusting that Christ died for you, that He is God who came in order that He might redeem us.
And trust that He shed His blood on the cross for your sins was buried in rose again from that God saves you. Wow. And you know there’s no greater story in all the world. We’re about ready to do that second half hour and we hope that you’ll stay with us for this next half hour. Would you like to help Bibleline continue in your area? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. And now back to Bibleline.
Welcome back from the break. We hope that you’re learning with us as you listen to Bibleline and hear real-life questions with scriptural answers from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Please make plans to join us and open your Bible as we also present in-depth studies covering a variety of biblical topics. Now, let’s return to our question and answer segment and then you’ll hear more Bible teaching from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Right now we have Jeffrey and I think that’s the name it’s in clear water Florida and Jeffrey welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air.
Yes, good morning. Good morning you’re on the air. I have three questions for you if you don’t mind. Go ahead. First of all I would like to know where it says in the Bible that we’re supposed to go and praise God and everything on Sunday, I mean on Sunday instead of Saturday. Well guess what? Jesus Christ died and was buried and he rose on what day of the week. He rose on a Sunday. The first appearance to his disciples was on a Sunday.
The second major appearance was on the eighth day. That was the following Sunday. This age in which we’re living right now began on a Sunday. Pentecost fell on a Sunday. It always does. That was the beginning of the birthday of the church. If you read through the book of Acts, They came together to worship on Sunday. And if you read the Epistles of Paul, they came together on the first day of the week to worship. And so it’s clear that Christ re-established the worship day.
And the Bible tells us in Colossians chapter 2 verse 16, let no man therefore judge you in respect of the New Moon or the Holy Days or the holidays of the Old Testament or even of the Sabbath because Christ took them and nailed them to his cross and took them out of the way. So we are not under the Sabbath. We are under the first day of the week, the commemoration of the resurrection of Christ. Number two, what’s the second question?
The second question is I would like to have a copy of that question here thing about the answers that you won’t find in the NIV. All right. Let me get you back to my operator in a minute and you can give him your addressable mail to you. Okay, and I would also like to put up paper about the resurrection, how we should be having good, what do you call it, Wednesday instead of Friday? Okay, what day was Christ crucified on?
We’ll send you that sheet as well. Okay, thank you very much. We’re so glad you called in today. Thank you so much. And the Sabbath was given to Israel, and we are not under the Old Testament law, and unless you’re Jewish, it really isn’t given to the Gentile at all. the Gentile age, which is the present age, which we’re living in, the church age began on Pentecost. That’s a Sunday. And let me just give you an interesting reference here while we’re talking about this, and then we’ll take our next caller.
But in Acts chapter 20, you see the early church coming together and Paul preaches to the early church here, and this is in Acts chapter 20. And it says here in verse 7 of Acts 20, and upon the The first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them. And so we find here that the first day of the week was the day. And we hope that you’ll take a look at that verse.
We have another caller here and where are you from? This is Kevin Ron from Mark 8. Okay, wonderful, good to have you today. What can we do for you? I have a question. There’s a lot of controversy going around on the internet and in churches. far as as women preachers in the pulpit women in the pulpit and uh… they get you this argument by i tell them you know god made adam first then he you know he was in transgression and was not deceived but they told me uh…
dot with party spirit and your son’s and daughter will start the property that correct dr well uh… you are absolutely right on target but the passage you’re talking about is Joel 2 28, which is about their sons and daughters, props, and so on. And that’s really not fulfilled yet. That’s talking about the future at the Second Coming of Christ when He will pour out His Spirit upon… All flesh. That’s the key word there. All. That means everybody right now.
I could step out the door of the church here and go into the neighborhood across the street and I would venture to say that very few of those have the Holy Spirit. Whereas during the millennium everybody will have the Holy Spirit because when Christ comes back he will slay all the unsaved on the earth and then everybody will have the Holy Spirit that will remain in which are the saved. And also it tells us there in verse 28 of Joel 2 that it would be The afterward is after according to Joel 2 20 the destruction of Russia at the Battle of Armageddon andocobo Christ has returned and has actually ruled over the earth in Jerusalem Rohing the following verses and verse 28 it says and after that that’s when he would pour out a spirit upon all flesh.
So none of this has happened yet and it’s not for today. So women are not allowed to teach in the pulpit. It is great. First Timothy chapter two is where you want to go, verses 10 through 15. And it tells us that women are not to usurp authority over the men, but they’re to be silent in the church. And they are not to be the main speakers. Now with permission from I believe the male leadership of the church, they can give testimony and they can sing and they can teach, but they are not allowed to be the leaders.
Okay, thank you, Dr. You’re sure welcome that was in first Timothy. We’re now going to go to Bernard in Tampa, Florida. Bernard, welcome to Bibleline you’re on there. I have two questions and I’m going to turn my radio. I mean, I’m going to get off the phone and listen. First question is, now my belief and my understanding is that the Holy Spirit seals you what you believe. That’s correct. You can use what? Ephesians 113 and 14. Yeah, it says that.
And that’s what I believe, but I have a problem with some people that don’t believe that they think you got to work for the Holy Spirit. So could you explain that? And also, types. And today’s church, how is the time to be paid? I mean, give me some insight on types. Okay. Sure. All right. Yes, sir. Thank you so much. The answer, of course, is Ephesians 1, you cannot work to get the Holy Spirit. Spirit, it says in John 7, even before Pentecost, even before the Holy Spirit was given, it tells us in John chapter 7, these are the words of Jesus himself.
And Jesus said, as he talked about the Holy Spirit coming, in the last day, it says here, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me as the scripture has said out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. What was he talking about? Well verse 39 tells us this is John 739 but this spakey of the Holy Spirit which they and that believe on him should receive.
For the Holy Spirit was not yet given because that Jesus was not yet glorified. But once Christ was given on the cross and died for our sins and came back from the dead on the day of Pentecost, 50 days after the resurrection, the Holy Spirit came to dwell and believe in every believer for this entire age. And so when you trust Christ as a believer, you receive the Holy Spirit and you’re sealed until the day of redemption. It says in Ephesians 430 also that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit until we are in heaven.
So it’s a wonderful, wonderful news. And it is so exciting because the believer can know and be assured of their salvation from the very moment they trust Jesus Christ as Snape. And so the Holy Spirit is God, and He comes to indwell in our bodies which become His temple. 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 19 says, What? Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you which you have of God and you’re not your own.
Therefore we ought to live for God and glorify Him in our body and in our spirit which are His. So as a believer you are in dwelt by the Holy Spirit, he indwells in your body from the moment you believe you cannot work for the Holy Spirit or work for salvation. It is all God’s gift. I hope that helps. Have you trusted Christ as your Savior? There’s only one way to be saved. Only one way to go to heaven and that is Jesus himself.
Jesus said in John 14, 6, I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life. No man comeeth unto the Father but by me. No man, no woman, no child, no one can come to the Father except by Jesus Christ. If you reject Christ, my friend, you have no chance because there’s no other way. There’s no other way. Peter said it so clearly in Acts 4, 12. He said, neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be safe.
Most churches teach works for salvation. It’s sometimes very subtle, but you have to ): do something to be saved according to most churches when the Bible says you can do nothing. It’s not of yourself that our best righteous deeds are filthy rags inside of God Isaiah 64 6. And you have nothing to offer God. I have nothing to offer God. You don’t either. I don’t care who you are. I don’t care where you attend or what you do. You don’t have a thing to offer God.
The Bible says your best righteous deeds or filthy rags in the sight of God assailants. You have to come just as you are. You have to simply recognize your need that you’re lost and headed for hell and you need a savior and Jesus Christ is that one. And when you come to him by faith trusting that he made the full payment for your sin was buried and rose again from the dead God saved you. So most important decision you’ll ever make in your life.
I hope you’ve made that decision to trust Christ and savior. You could do incendiary. You could say something like as follows, I got on the center. Admit it, we all are. But right now what I just heard made a lot of sense, and I trust Jesus Christ right now. As the one who died and paid for my sins, in full on the cross by his death and shed blood was buried and rose again from the dead. I trust Jesus Christ right now to save me, to give me Belichick to eternal life.
And the moment you do that, God saves you. We’re now going to go to Tony in Richmond, Virginia and Tony, welcome to my line. You are on the air. I tried out a new church yesterday in heavy laden and the guy of the pastor used it for you could take on and off the yoke of Jesus, like take my yoke upon you. He’s gonna be on and off and I just can immediately discern message and my question was why couldn’t I get up there?
Like I raise my hand and stand up and say hey, this is Wait wait wait cuz Peter and Paul you think Peter and Paul if they heard a false would it kept quiet? Well, I’m not too sure that you’re here who was false in 28 29 and 30 Coming to me all you that labor and heavy laden. I will give you rest Then verse 29 and third year, you’re really talking about the Christian life, where it says, take my yoke upon you, that’s service, and that can be taken off and put back on.
As a believer, you have the choice whether you’re going to serve him or not serve him, and the yoke speaks about service, where you put the yoke, what they put over the head of the oxen and the ropes that would steer the and the ropes would go back to the plow were tied to that yoke. And that has to do with service. And there he talks about a different kind of rest that is offered to the one who is serving.
So there’s a rest there that comes under your soul. But the rest of salvation is in verse 28 by simply coming to Christ and he gives it to you. So he may not have been very clear in his presentation, but the yoke, it is true. You can put the yoke on and serve the Lord and then you can put it down and not serve Him. But that doesn’t have anything to do with your salvation. Verse 28 is talking about salvation.
Verse 29 and 30 of Matthew 11 are talking about the Christian life. And you have to be able to rightly divide and separate that out. Thank you, Tony. That concludes today’s question and answer segment. There’s no other topic that is more important to us than the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s mission to spread the gospel. Through your support for Bibleline, you too can help to spread the gospel of Christ throughout the world and to reach others with the message of salvation through Jesus.

Now join us as we return to today’s teaching series. series. Verse 12 of chapter 5 of Matthew rejoices in the exceeding glad for great is your reward in heaven. He reads in the book of Acts, you’ll find several incidents where you have believers doing that. Paul and Silas in the jailhouse at Philippi, they were singing God’s praises at midnight.
Everybody else in the prison must have thought they were crazy. they were having a real bad day and they were imprisoned and they’re singing in the jail house singing about the Lord. Let’s go to verse 13 now Matthew chapter 5. You are the salt of the earth. Did you know you were salt has an impact. On whatever we put it on, obviously if you’ve eaten things without salt, it takes pretty bland, isn’t it? But also, salt has a purifying effect.
Oftentimes, before refrigeration, they would salt, meat, and fish and other things in order to preserve it when you had no refrigeration. And so salt has an impact. And the Bible talks about us being like salt, being able to impact the world around us. And it says, if the salt is lost at savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is therefore good for nothing but to be cast out and to be trodden under the foot of men. So it’s really saying that if you have no testimony, you’re like salt that’s lost at savor, and it’s good for nothing except for men to trample on your testimony because you have no impact.
Never forget leading a guy to Christ. friend was a little bit inebriated as I talked to him and the guy got saved and the guy that was partially drunk started crying. And I said, what’s going on with you? He says, I should have told him about Jesus. I’m a Christian and I never told him. He’s crying away. And The friend said, you never told me that he was upset with him. But I said, if he had told you, would you have believed him?
He said, no, this guy. So obviously he had no testimony, no impact. Even if he had told his friend, his friend said he wouldn’t have believed him. And it was what we’re talking about right here. If your salt that’s lost at the savor, you will not have any impact. worthy of nothing but just having your testimony cast out and trodden under the foot of men. Verse 14 says also, you are the light of the world. In Christ’s absence and He is the light of the world, we become the light.
He says a city that’s set on the hill cannot be hid. If you’ve ever been in a mountain, you can always see a city at night where the lights are, and you can’t hide it. Need to do light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick and it give a the flight and all that are in the house. Well, we don’t use candles as much as we do electric lights nowadays, but what if we had all these lights removed and installed underneath the pews?
It wouldn’t do us a whole lot of good, wouldn’t it? And light your feet well, but it would be difficult to read the Bible and study here if all the light were there. And if you just had the light in your bedroom installed underneath your bed, it wouldn’t do much good. Obviously in our homes, we put them on a night table or a lampstand, or maybe we have a pole that the light is on, and we want to get it up where it illuminates the whole room.
So it says, we put it up on a candlestick, that it will light all that are in the house. Verse 16, let your light so shine. In other words, we need to be putting ourselves in a way that we are impacting those around us, that they would see your good works. It says in verse 16, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven. So as believers, we need to expose the light that we have, the light of Christ, by sharing it with others.
And we need to think about clever ways to do that. And there’s lots of ways to do it. A lot of people I know today are witnessing on the internet. I’ve never been in a chat room, but apparently there are some people that live in those things. But as a believer, you could lead people to Christ. I know a number of people who have ongoing conversations have lost people on the internet or leading people to Christ. You know, you don’t have to go anywhere to do that.
And so some people who say, well, I don’t, you know, I don’t have any opportunities. If you have a computer, you probably have opportunity to the world to tell them about Christ, don’t you? There’s a way to have a conversation to get the word out to somebody else. Or maybe just your own loved ones and friends to go on there and converse with them, send them email and reply back and forth and attempt to lead them to So there’s lots of ways that we can get our message out today and maybe you might feel less intimidated in that kind of way.
Some people don’t like the face-to-face confrontation with somebody. And maybe by letter or by internet or by telephone would be another way. And those ways work. I’ve led people to Christ over the phone. I remember a lady up in Ohio that found a Jewish man in Miami that she wanted to marry. And she said, I know that I’m not to marry an unsafe man. She said, would you talk to him on the phone and I’ll give you my phone credit card number and I’ll pay the bill.
And I’m saying this cautiously because I don’t want everybody to come running up here and say I want you to talk to my friends over the phone and I’ll pay the bill because I don’t have time. But anyway, I called this fellow and I said that you know you’re… This girl up in Ohio wants me to talk to you about the Lord. And because apparently he had feelings for her and wanted to marry her, he listened to me and I was able to lead him over to Christ over the phone.
And it turned out to be a wonderful thing and they, after they got married, had Bible studies in their home and led people to Christ and that continued up until the day the Lord took him. Last year I think he went to be with the Lord and his wife is now a widow, but it was a beautiful story about how you can lead someone to Christ. So you can do it over the phone and you do it the same way you do it face to face.
Just go over it, especially if a person is listening and oftentimes in those situations that if he’s interested in marrying her and he says, I’m not going to marry you unless you trust in Jesus as your Savior, he says, tell me about this Jesus and why I should trust him. And so I did. And so it was a great experience. But every time I tell that story, I usually have people running up with their credit cards or whatever and I have a relative somewhere that I would like to have you talk to and I’m declining in advance here because I just I could probably spend my life doing that.
But I’ll let you do that. Maybe the Lord would have you to be the one to reach your relative. Verse 17, Christ says, think not that I’m come to destroy the law or the prophets. That’s a reference to the Old Testament. And he says, I’m not come to destroy the Old Testament, but to do what? Full fill. A lot of people think the Old Testament is of no value to us anymore and the opposite is true. The Old Testament foretold the coming of Christ.
Somebody said that the Old Testament in the New Testament is revealed and the New Testament in the Old Testament is concealed and so that’s an interesting thought. But the New Testament is concealed and the Old Testament is there and once you read the New Testament it unveils it and reveals the Old Testament in the new. And I think that’s very, very true. So they go together and Christ came to fulfill it. He was the fulfillment of the Old Testament.
Verse 18 says, for verily I say unto you, tell heaven and earth pass. By the way, the earth as we know it will pass after the millennium and there will be a new heavens and new earth. But he says, still heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall know wise paths from the law. That’s the Old Testament. Tell how much be fulfilled. My Bible says all. Every bit of what the Old Testament said will come to pass.
And so it’s saying here all of it will take place literally. Thanks for listening to Bibleline with Dr. Hank Lindstrom. When you simply receive that payment by faith, trusting that Christ died for you, that he is God who came in order that he might redeem us. And trust that he shed his blood on the cross for your sins was buried in rose again from the dead. God saves you. Wow. And you know there’s no greater story in all the world. I’ve had two funerals this past week and I’ve had dozens and dozens get saved.
What a great opportunity when people are facing death and realize, wow, I’m going to die too. And if you don’t know where you’re going when you die, you probably don’t have eternal life. The Bible says, when you trust Christ at that moment, you receive eternal life and you can actually know that you’re going to heaven. From that moment on, 1 John 513, let me give it to you. It is the written guarantee verse. This is so good. You ought to write it on anything.
Write it on the wall, write it on your arm, write it on your shirt. If you don’t have anything to write on, write it on something, draw it on the wall. But it says these things have I written into you that believe on the name of the Son of God that you may know K-N-O-W, not hope, not guess, not perhaps, not maybe, but that you may know that you have H-A-V-E, present tense verb that you possess right now at the moment of belief, eternal life.
Let me quote that verse again, 1 John 513, these things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God that you may know, K-N-O-W, that you have present tense eternal life. Oh, that’s good news. Have you trusted Christ as your Savior? There’s only one way to be saved, only one way to go to heaven, and that is Jesus Himself. Jesus said in John 14, 6, I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life.
