You are just in time to hear Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s teaching series on the Book of Matthew. We hope that you will plan to open your Bible and join us for this verse by verse study of the Book of Matthew as we explore topics such as the Transfiguration of Christ on a high mountain. Jesus, denouncing the Pharisees, the Olivet Discourse, and more, we pray that Bibleline will be glorifying to God as well as educational for you. Through its combination of teachings from the Word of God and real-life questions, with answers taken straight from the Bible as we continue Dr.
Lindstrom’s ministry of spreading the good news of salvation through simply trusting Jesus Christ alone as your Savior. Now join us for Dr. Lynchton’s teaching for today as we turn to the Book of Matthew chapter 6. I said, well, what if we were to pray more specifically? Let’s say we’re going to pray. And if you agree, and this is the only way that you could get saved, I believe if you and I agree on this and you allow me to pray the prayer, it’ll probably happen.
So would you agree if we prayed that when you leave here that you would have a car accident and that your left leg would be severed exactly four inches above the knee. Would that convention? He said that probably would, but please don’t pray that prayer. He asked me not to. I said, well before we leave, could we just pray that God would somehow get your attention in a way that you would recognize that He’s real and want you to become safe?
He said, okay, we prayed together and He left. I didn’t hear from him for a long time. It was almost a year, I guess. And he came back to me and said, guess what happened? He says, I never got to complete my trip around the world. I flew to Africa first. And when I got there, I contracted hepatitis. And I wound up spending six months in an African hospital. And I nearly died. They sent me back to the states for treatment.
And I sat in a hospital in the states for over three months until I recovered. And he said that I trusted Christ as my Savior. And he became a missionary and is a missionary in South America right now. And it revolutionized his life. And the story is basically, is if you, if it would take maybe the loss of a finger, the loss of a hand, the loss of an eye, to get your attention, where you would come to know Christ the Savior, it would be better to lose that body part so that you would seek and find God and become saved, then to have a whole body that’s completely healthy and well to be cast into hell without Christ.
And you know that is true. And that worked. And the Lord gave it to me, and I believe that that’s really what the intent is here. That Christ is saying, you can have a body that’s physically whole, and many times those who have never experienced sickness or surgery or serious illness or death in their family feel like they’re okay and they have a false sense of hope that they’re moving through life and don’t need God and they don’t need anything that they’re fine and they’re able to do it on their own without God’s help.
And so they don’t turn to the Lord. But sometimes when we have a disability, sometimes when we have a loss, we recognize we need help and we turn to God. And through that we can come to know Christ and can be saved. I think that a lot of people don’t realize that. And I think that’s what Christ is saying here. If it takes the loss of a finger, the loss of an eye, the loss of a hand, the loss of a foot, and that would cause you to come to know me, that would be far better than going to hell with a full body in good health.
Matthew 6, verse 7, when you pray, pray not using vain repetitions as the heathen do, they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Can’t help but think about the rosary and people. Keeping count of all their prayers because they need to make a quota. I compare the rosary to, I guess, the more modern day of Bacchus that the Chinese calculate with. They would roll their little marbles back and forth account. But obviously the Bible says we’re not to do that.
So to repeat repetitious prayers, so many hail marries, our fathers certainly is not what God intended. And then he gives us this model prayer of how to pray, but it really is, first of all, you have to be a believer to pray this prayer. You have many churches pray it and you know sometimes their congregations aren’t saved or they do it in public gatherings where maybe there are unbelievers among them. As the prayer begins in verse 9 it says, after this man and therefore pray, our Father which heart in heaven.
God is not your father and you’re not his son or daughter until you trust Christ until you’re born again. God is your Creator, you’re his creation, but God is not your father, you’re not his son or daughter until you become safe. So only the believer can pray our father with heart in heaven. Obviously he’s talking here. We believe two believers and so only the believer can pray to God the Father. All others have God as their Creator. And you know, there are some ministers that pray that way.
Oh, Creator, whatever. And I wonder to myself, they’re telling me they’re maybe not saying it. A lot of ministers don’t know the Lord is Savior. I think some of the things they say are tip-offs. So, they think, wow, he’s admitting that God is not his father but is simply his Creator. That’s scary to think about. And when you become alert to these things, all of a sudden you say, well, wow, that ministers probably admitting the fact that he’s lost and doesn’t know the Lord.
But when you’re a believer, you have that relationship as you’re born again into the family of God and you can pray to God as your Father. This is of course a prayer that was prayed then and could be prayed again during the tribulation period. It’s a prayer for the Kingdom. The Kingdom is the earthly Kingdom. Now the grand phrase, the Kingdom of God, is all encompassing of everything that is under God’s control from eternity past, eternity future, and it’s a big, big, big, big, big term.
But the Kingdom we’re talking about here is an earthly Kingdom that has been promised to Israel, and that the Christ will come back as their King and rule over them, and he’ll rule the whole earth from Jerusalem. And so it says here, by Kingdom come, I will be done on earth as it is in heaven. And of course, rg that has not happened yet, but during the millennium the earth will be at peace. The heavens will really rule over the earth.
Daniel spoke about that. The kingdoms when the heavens will rule over the earth were coming back and believers of past ages will come back and they’re glorified bodies. So the heavens will be ruling over the earth and it’ll be a wonderful time here on the earth. So that kingdom is coming. Today, because there’s a lot of confusion in our Christian world today, which is getting worse by the minute in the area of confusion. You hear a lot of talking about Kingdom music, Kingdom power, Kingdom preaching, Kingdom just everything.
You just I hear it all the time and and these people obviously are off track because we are members of the body of Christ which is called the Church and Christ is the head of the church not the King of the church and when we talk about the Kingdom and we talk about the King we’re talking about The Jews, we’re talking about God’s earthly plan for this earth and for the kingdom that He’s going to establish. So really that’s a tip off that you’re hearing bad theology.
You really want to watch out for people that are harping on the kingdom. And they might mean well, but they really are not being clear because the kingdom is what’s going to happen after we’re gone. The next event for us is not the kingdom. The next event for us is the rapture. The next event for Israel is the Kingdom, and that will happen seven years after the Rapture when Christ comes back to set up His Kingdom. So that’s when He comes back to rule and reign.
So this prayer is really not to be prayed today. Same thing is true of the preaching of the Gospel of the Kingdom. If you turn to Matthew 24, it talks about during the tribulation period that the Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached into all the world. It says in verse 14 of Matthew 24, page 1033, page 1033, Matthew 2414, and this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached into all the world for a witness to all the nations, and in the end, end of the tribulation periods will come, and of course, Christ will return.
And the gospel of the kingdom is the good news of the kingdom being established. That gospel is not being preached today. There might be false groups teaching it, but I mean the kingdom is not for today. The worldwide church of God used to preach this message, but they were all messed up. That was a cult. You might have… I just read in this past week that garnered Ted Armstrong, which was the heir apparent after his father died, just passed away himself.
He just died. He used to be on the radio all around the world. The world tomorrow with your radio host, Gardener, ten Armstrong. And you may have heard I used to hear that all the time, and they had the Playin’ Truth magazine, and had a pretty powerful influence. But they said that they were the only ones preaching the gospel of the kingdom, probably right. Of course, it was the wrong message. And they didn’t get the message right on salvation either.
But this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world. That’ll happen in the tribulation period. And the technology allows for that to happen quickly today, doesn’t it? So seven years you could see how that message would go out. Let me say that a lot of television and radio evangelists use this as a hook to get money out of people. They’ll say if you send in your money so we can buy another satellite or get another satellite program up, you’ll speed the return of Christ because once this gospel is preached into all the world, then Christ will return.
And of course, they’re not even talking about the right gospel here. It’s defined here as the gospel of the kingdom. Schofield points out four different gospels. So you might want to read his footnote on the gospels in the book of Revelation. But the gospel of the grace of God is the message that you and I preach, the one that we share, how you’re saved by grace through faith. And that’s called the gospel of grace. But the gospel of the kingdom is for Israel.
gospel of the kingdom, it was an exclusive message during the life of the apostles. If you go to Matthew 10 we’re leaping ahead in our study, but the gospel of the kingdom was not to be preached to gentiles. That might be surprising if you didn’t know this. You’re listening to Bible Eye, a teaching ministry that’s dedicated to delivering the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many items available from our Resource Center such as Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s DVD teachings on the topics of Lost People Seeking God, Are We in the Latter Days, and Scientific Facts, in addition to many others when you call 1-800-576-3771.
Now we’re going to take a break from our teaching to listen to Dr. Lindstrom answering questions from callers and then we’ll rejoin today’s teaching. We now have Monica from Tampa, Florida, Monica. Welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. I’m here. Hi Monica. Okay, I’m calling because I was wondering, you know, brothering that teach documents out the Bible and stuff like that in that preach. Are they going to be held accountable? Are they going to be held accountable for the words that come out their mouth?
Absolutely. Even if it’s false teaching and stuff like that. Yeah, okay because the reason why I was calling is because you I’m about that That suicide thing that you told that lady. Yes that I’m like that I disagree with because I’m because life is a gift from God And you know you told her that you know that people commit suicide It’s still going to have an I disagree on that only if they’ve trusted Christ But suicide is not the unpardonable sin I mean there are examples in the Bible of people who committed suicide who went to heaven Like Saul, we just mentioned that a moment ago.
Saul took his life and Saul went to heaven. Read the last chapters of 1 Samuel and you’ll see that. That just all sound right to me because I mean this is such a gift from God. I know and I’m saying nobody should take their life. Nobody should commit suicide. Certainly that would be wrong. But neither should anybody commit murder or rape. I mean, these are all crimes that shouldn’t be committed by anybody, but yet they don’t send you to hell.
Jesus died for every imaginable sin that could ever be committed. Remember, the dying thief was a convicted criminal who deserved to go to the cross and die. In fact, he even said, we indeed justly deserve what we’re getting here. But yet he trusted Christ and Christ forgave him and Christ said today, those will be with be in paradise and i’m not just saying that i mean just uh… i’m just saying that this is all that this all sit right with them also you know that i suggest people really read their bible i agree i don’t think that i don’t think that’s right well i know it’s not in my heart i know i agree with nobody should take their life i agree with nobody should take their life but nobody will go to hell because they committed suicide there’s only one sin They can cause you to be lost and that’s unbelief.
Let me just give you back to John 3 18 Monica where it says he that believeth on Jesus is not condemned. But he that believeth not is condemned already and the answer is why is because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3 36 the same way. He the belief of the Son has everlasting life. believe if not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.
So there’s only two groups, those that believe in those that don’t believe, and those that believe on Christ have eternal life and are not condemned, but the ones who do not believe are condemned already and will not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on them. So you’ll only find in the Bible one unpardonable sin, and it has nothing to do with our deeds, with our works with our accomplishments. It has to do with what Jesus did for us.
If you trust Christ, you are saved. If you don’t, you are eternally lost. So thank you very, very much. And by the way, Samson also committed suicide in Old Testament, and he was saved. Remember he was between the two pillars in the temple of Dagon, and he pushed the pillars apart and he killed thousands that were in the stadium there that fell down with him, but he was crushed and he killed and he’s a hero in Hebrews chapter 11.
He’s going to be in heaven, my goodness, and he committed suicide also. So just have to go back and believe the Bible because that’s the key. We have Linda in Luth, Florida and Linda, we welcome you to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Okay, thank you. I wanted to ask a quick question. You were talking a little bit about the water being baptized. Yes, ma’am. So now I’ve been a believer and I have been saved since I was 16 years old and I’m almost 61 now.
I just wanted to know if you’ve been baptized more than one time, is that a sin? Or like if you backside from the Lord? Okay, well, water baptism is somebody that was done is to be done after you become saved. A lot of people were infant baptized, that doesn’t count. If you were baptized before your salvation experience, that doesn’t count. You have to be baptized after you’ve been saved. And then it’s really a one-time event where you give testimony because you’re only saved once and saved forever.
You’re only baptized once. So it’s not a sin. But if you weren’t sure about why you were getting baptized, you might want to do it to be the one-time testimony of your salvation. But you’re saved whether you’re baptized or not. You’re saved when you trust Christ and His death and burial and resurrection is the only means of your salvation. We have Juanita and she’s in Lansing, Michigan and Juanita, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. I just wonder if you can give me some script or references.
I’m sorry for the statement that you just made. Sure, I get it. I can do that. You know tongues according to 1 Corinthians 13 verses 8 through 10 tells us of three gifts there that would cease, that would be temporary in nature. And one was the gift of prophecy, one was the gift of knowledge, and the other is the gift of tongues. And it says tongues would cease. The Greek word means to utterly halt or come to a complete stop.
And it tells us when that would happen. That would be when the New Testament record was completed. And that was around 80-96 when the book of Revelation was written, and that finished out the New Testament. And by that time tongues were gone. But actually, it began to cease even before that. If you read the Scriptures, in 1 Corinthians you have the list of the gifts in chapter 12, 13, and 14. And tongues was present at that time. But if you read the book of Ephesians written later in the listing of the gifts in Ephesians chapter 4, it’s gone from the list.
And then when you read the book of Romans in chapter 12, where it lists the gifts written even later in the first century, tongues has gone from the list, so it was already gone before the end of the first century and when the New Testament record was written, then it was totally gone. So with a temporary gift it was used for evangelism. storm. It’s not a gibberish. If you read 1 Corinthians 14-9, it says, except you speak by the tongue words, easy to be understood, easy to be understood.
How shall it know what you’re speaking you’re just speaking into the air? That’s what the gibberish people are doing. They’re just blowing a lot of air around and they’re not really accomplishing anything. Paul said the real gift was a known language to communicate the gospel to the lost. And he says, unless you’re speaking in the language of God, you’re speaking in the language of God. the hearer and words easily understood, you’re just speaking into the air. You’re just wasting your breath.
And verse 22 says, Tongs are for a sign not to the people it believed, but to those that believe not. So is to be used around unbelievers to win them to Christ. And that’s not happening today with the modern movement. I wish that it were, if the real gift were around, but the gift ceased. It’s not going to be resurrected either. the gift of tongues is over and the modern counterfeit is really deceiving a lot of people one in a hope that helps a little bit that i have some questions okay go ahead uh…
Well, what about verse 13 in Corinthians 14, 13? It says, wherefore the hymn that speaks us in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. well you’ll notice first of all the word unknown there is in italics it’s not in the original manuscripts italicized words are added by the translators what it’s saying there is that if you and this is when the real gift was still existent let’s say that you prayed or you sang in Russian but nobody in your audience understood Russian.
Then it says it ought to be interpreted. Please notice it’s not talking about a gibberish or something. You know the modern movement, the person speaking doesn’t understand what they’re saying nor does the person listening. But the answer for you, Juanita, is in verse 16. It says here else when thou shalt, for example, pray and bless with the Spirit, shall he that occupy the room of the unlearned say amen at thy giving of thanks when you pray over the food or whatever you do when you give thanks it says here and here’s the answer seeing he doesn’t understand what you’re saying.
So unless you’re speaking words when you pray or when you sing or when you speak that can be understood by the hearer then it needs to be interpreted. So that’s what’s not happening today either the gibberish can’t me interpreted i know some churches claim they have people interpret it but the interpretation doesn’t ever match up in fact i have people tell me all time that the interpretation seems to be the same for anybody who does any type of the times that are as they seem to have a pretty much a standard interpretation of what it’s being said but it’s that’s that’s nonsense that’s not that’s not the real gift you’re right that’s not you very much we we differ but i think you can you’re talking while you’re very welcome and i hope you keep listening.
You know, read those passages carefully all the way throughout. Paul is saying that you need to communicate. He goes, in verse 18, Juanita, where he says, I’d rather speak five words that can be understood by somebody than 10,000 words in a language unknown to the hearer. And guess what? I can say a lot with five words. You give me a microphone and give me an opportunity to speak and give me five words. That’s all. I can say, trust Christ and be saved.
Trust Christ and be saved. I’d love that opportunity on national television or radio to be able to say, trust Christ and be saved. Five words that can be understood. Five words that can have great impact. Paul said, I’d rather do that than speak 10,000 words in a language that nobody understands. And Paul can speak in numerous languages. He said, I can speak in tongues more than any of you guys. But he said, I’d rather speak five words that you’d understand than 10,000 words that nobody understands.
I’m afraid a lot of people are speaking the 10,000 words and wasting their time and wasting everybody else’s time because what they’re doing is not the gift from the Bible. Thank you so much for calling in Juanita from Michigan. We hope that you’re learning with us as you listen to this question and answer segment featuring Dr. Hank Lindstrom. To pledge your support for Bibleline, give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. We are going to talk a little bit today about the topic of being able to separate between being saved and being a disciple.
I’m going to have you turn with me in the Bible and we’re going to turn over to Luke’s Gospel, chapter 14. And here’s a lesson in rightly dividing the word of truth. 14 verse 26. It says, if any man come to me, comma, stop right there. And that is talking about salvation. How do we know the phrase there? If any man come to me, these are the words of Christ. They’re in red if you have a red letter edition of the Bible.
And the phrase come to me is typical of a salvation verse. Jesus said in Matthew 11 28, come unto me, all you that labored and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. All you have to do is come to Christ, anybody and everybody is invited to come, and it says He will simply give you salvation. It’s a gift received by simply trusting Christ as Savior. But now let me caution you that the rest of verse 26 and Luke 14 is not talking about salvation any longer, it’s talking about discipleship.
And you know, if you don’t rightly divide, you have a real mess on your hands because you’re confusing doctrines and mixing them all up. They need to be separate. And the Bible talks about rightly dividing the word of truth. Rightly dividing the word of truth. There are two different words that talk about this dividing. One is a word that means it’s just a chopper hack at something and obviously it doesn’t come out clean and understandable. The other word in the Greek means with one swoop with one slice.
You cut it perfectly. Well, that’s what we need to do as Christians. We need to be able to slice the Bible with one clean swipe and say, this is talking about salvation. This is talking about discipleship and make the difference clear so that the person hearing us will understand the difference because we’re not saved by being disciples of Christ. We’re saved by trusting in the finished work of Christ at the cross and then we’re were invited to become disciples.
And that’s where we live for Christ and earn rewards. Let me go back to the verse we’re looking at Luke 1426. If any man come to me, comma, stop salvation, put it in the margin. Then the next part of the verse says, and hate not his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters. Yay, his own life also look at the last phrase now, he cannot be my disciple. Now it doesn’t say he can’t be saved, it says he can’t be my disciple.
You see there’s a price to be paid by us to become disciples. The price for salvation has been paid by Jesus at the cross and he said it is finished. So salvation is totally and completely purchased by Christ’s death, but discipleship is good to cost. That’s the price and look at what it says here. Here’s the price. You have to hate your father and your mother and your wife and your children and brothers. Let me say, wait a minute.
I can’t understand that I should hate my father and mother and my wife and my children. Well, the word here is comparative. Basically, all terms which define the emotions or affixions in the Bible are comparative. It’s really saying here that your love for others in contrast to your love for Christ would be hatred. In other words, we need to love the Lord first. The Lord must ought to be first in our life and that’s what it’s saying here. I used to have my own Bible college for 11 years and we graduated a lot of people out in the ministry that came through our Bible college.
Well, I had a candidate that wanted to come to the school from Kentucky. And when I was interviewing him as a prospective student for our college, I said, where is your wife? I noticed here on the paperwork, you have a wife. Oh, she’s back in Kentucky. I said, how come she’s not with you? He says, well, I hate her. I said, you hate her? Yeah, he says, So Bible says, I’m supposed to hate my wife, and this is the verse he referred to.
I had to straighten him out. Obviously the Bible says you should love your wife in the Ephesians. It’s quite clear. But in contrast to your love for Christ, your love for her would be hatred, and that’s what it’s saying here. And for your children, for your brothers, sisters, and everybody else. What it’s saying here, if you’re going to be a disciple, you have to put Christ first in your life. If any man come to me, comma, that’s the first part of Luke 14 26 is talking about salvation.
All you need to do is come to Christ and He saves you. And any promises in John 6, 37, if you come to Him, He says, I will in no wise cast out anyone that comes to me. So He’ll never cast you out. He’ll never lose you. Once you become Savior, save forever. We’re going to rejoin stations that have been on break into the second half hour Bibleline. So don’t go away. Hank Lindstrom. We have Dolores in Tampa, Florida. Dolores, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the earth. Dr. Lindstrom, I too, I guess I’m a follow up of Juanita because I too have just a little of clarification if you can. Sure. Speaking in tongues because I was under the impression that this was a gift of the Holy Spirit and going back to 2 Corinthians 14, 18 where Paul says I thank my God that I speak with tongues more than he all indicate that in an unknown tongue, but that not that for us to understand before.
Not at all. He’s talking about communicating with the loss that you should be using it with. In other words, what was happening here in Corinth, if you read that whole 14th chapter, the Corinthian believers were acting like little babies. And he goes on in the verses following verse 18 to tell them, don’t be like children. Be adults. Be men in your understanding. What a child will do. And if you’ve had children, you know what I mean. A little child is going to come out and show off their toys.
I’ve had visitors or guests in my home and sure enough, one of my kids would come out of the bedroom bringing some kind of a toy that they dragged with a little string and it makes a lot of noise and they prayed around and they interrupt everything that’s going on because they want to show off their little toy. Well the crindium believers were showing off the gift of tongues but they were using a form language, a real language, but they were using it in the Greek church where they should have been speaking Greek.
They spoke in a language that was unknown to the hearer. The word unknown is not in the original manuscript. Every time you see that word unknown in chapter 14, it’s in italics. That means the translators have added the word. What they’re trying to do is help you and me understand from the Greek in which the New Testament was written that this was a language unknown to the hearer. It’s not unknown. It’s unknown to the hearer. And so that’s why he says in verse 9, except you speak by the tongue words, easy to be understood.
In other words, you should be speaking Greek to the people of the Corinthian church, which was in Greece. I’ve been to Corinth many times, and they should have been speaking Greek. But when they were reaching the lost, he said, you need to speak in the language that’s known to them. else they won’t know what you’re saying. So he’s telling them that they need to speak a known language and Paul was able to speak and apparently a number of foreign languages.
He was very educated. I think before God maybe gifted him with any of those languages, he probably already spoke several. But he was to be used for evangelism. And by the way, verse 34, if you enforce the rules that were given in this chapter, it says, let your women keep silence in the churches. Women were not to speak one word in church in tongues. If that rule were enforced today, the laws of the modern day movement would die. Most of the people doing this are women.
And if they were to be forced to not be able to say a word in church in tongues, it would end the movement. I really believe it would be over. But it’s a gibberish. It’s done by the Mormons. They’re not Christian. They do the same gibberish. They go to the same charismatic conferences and they do the same thing, but it’s not really The real gift, the real gift we should be able to speak French, German, Chinese, or other foreign languages without any training.
And it should, if they have it, be used to reach those people with the gospel and lead them to Christ. It’s not happening. Let me also, I’m just going to say this, sir, and then I’ll move to my radio, because I always enjoy your messages. I’ve gotten great understanding from listening to you, and I do support your ministry. down in where it’s in 1 Corinthians 14, in the 23rd verse it says, therefore, you know, we’re saying that within the church, if everyone comes together in one place, and all of them are speaking with tongues.
And we know that there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, like you said. Is that more or less indicating that? What it’s saying there is that this was the misuse. In other words, they were using it in church. They were more than one. They were showing off. They were acting like children. It says in verse 20, Brethren, be not children. They were acting like kids. And so here you had a bunch of people speaking in different, real known foreign languages, but the people who come in that were You’re crazy.
They thought these people don’t. That’s just confusion. So he said, if you insist on wanting to use your foreign language one at a time and then interpret it. And we have a, we just had a missionary from Japan and he came in and spoke some things in Japanese. But nobody in our church understood Japanese, but he interpreted what he said and it was kind of neat to hear how preaching the gospel would sound in Japanese. But in Japan, obviously that is very effective because he’s speaking the gospel in Japanese to people that understand Japanese, but he demonstrated what it’s like to speak Japanese to our church, but nobody understood it.
And of course, he therefore had to interpret it for us. And that’s really the proper thing. But today, nobody’s speaking in the real gift. I challenge people all the time. I said, look, if you have the real gift, let’s go use it with the loss. in my car, I’ll take you to the mall or someplace and I’ll get you a crowd. If I have to stand on my head and freak out, I’ll get a crowd. And when they come, I’ll introduce you and you can go ahead and speak in your gibberish and let’s see what happens.
Well, I’ve had nobody yet and I even promised a steak dinner afterward. Nobody wants to go with me. Theyextremely know what they do will not attract the lost person and certainly not win them to Christ. And they usually panic at the thought of using it in public with a crowd of lost people. I’ve I’ve never had one yet. I’ve done this for 30 years. I’ve invited people to go and let’s demonstrate it. If you have the real gift, I want to see the revival.
It’ll take place. This will be thrilling for me. I’d love to see souls get saved. And let’s go. And they all back off and they say, oh, they just panic. They don’t want to go out in public with it. So the real gift is not being demonstrated today at all. The real gift was to, and the real gift, of course, in Corinth was being misused in the church as immature Christians were showing off like a child which off their toy and Paul says, look, grow up and use it correctly.
Use it so that people can be one to Christ. If you insist on using it in church, interpret it so people know exactly what you said. And yes, I know you think people think more highly of you because you have this gift. But actually Tony Tons was the least of all the gifts. If you read chapter 12, it was at the bottom of the totem pole. And it was not the most valuable gift or the most important gift, certainly at all.
And of course, chapter 13 tells us love is above all these things. But the real gift is gone. It’s just not around. And what we have today, you know, there have been no tongues for 2,000 years. If you study history, just like the Bible said, tongues ceased and all of a sudden in 1906 at the Azuzah Street incident, this modern movement began. And the San Francisco papers all chronicled the event as being a bunch of gibberish that nobody knew what they were saying.
And that’s exactly what it is. And it right from the get-go, the secular press said this was gibberish and it was gibberish. And then they tried to make meaning out of this thing so they said it was a prayer language and they’ve gone off the deep end the bible doesn’t support any type of secret prayer language to god this is uh… clearly a gift to evangelize and that’s what happened at pentecost when people from sixteen countries were present and three thousand got saved because they heard the gospel in the language which they were born and raised with if you read x two eight it says how is it the people said that we hear are the gospel in the language that we were born and raised with in a a Gentile country.
And they heard the gospel in a Gentile language. And that’s why evangelism took off at the beginning because God gave this wonderful gift to help evangelize the lost. It’s not happening today. The modern movement is a counterfeit. Once again, Dr. Lindstrom, I thank you so much for your insight. I’m not going to give it up. I’m just going to read a little more. As I am right at this moment, it’s been a pleasure and I do hope that God continues to bless you.
Well, thank you. Well, given us that word. Thank you, Dolores. I appreciate your call. You know, we have a wonderful book here in our resource center too, New Testament teaching on tongues by Merle Unger, a great author, author of the Unger’s Bible Dictionary and a ton of other books, a great scholar. And he takes that passage in 1 Corinthians 13 and exegetes the Greek and it’s a slam dunk. He shows that tongues is ceased and gone and it’s over and there’s nothing going on today that matches the biblical gift.
And you might want to get that book. It’s very powerful. And you have to use the scriptures. I don’t mind if people want to do the gibberish, but I just tell them, don’t try to tell me that it’s biblically supported or that it’s a Christian experience. The gibberish is done by all the world religions. I was on a flight from Tampa to Dallas, Texas, and I happened to be reading a National Geographic. And it was talking about this gibberish has done all of them down from Chile all the way up the Andes Mountains range right on up through Central America.
The gibberish is everywhere. And so the Charismatics don’t have a grip on this thing. They’re only a small part of the gibberish movement, which is worldwide. Has nothing to do with Christ or the Bible. And I know that’s very difficult for people to hear that have been practicing it, to recognize that this is not really a biblical event. But you can’t prove differently from the Bible, that’s for sure. Thank you. of uh… matthew in spring hill florida and uh…
matthew uh… welcome to bible and uh… you’re on the air and just one common arm i’ve been using salam eighty nine verse thirty through thirty four as a proof text return security and it’s just real clear for anyone that’s not certain about you know about that particular doctor and it you know just make it clear that everyone is a child of god if they forsake god’s law and don’t walk into judgment that’ll punish them Salvation is based on God’s faithfulness not ours and he will not break his promises and in no wise cast us out So thank you pastor.
I would get that amen. Thank you Matthew. I pray everybody’s trusted Christ is Savior Salvation is Something that God does and that he saves us and keeps us safe If you could lose it by anything That you would do then salvation would be of you and you would be the Savior ultimately and And you would have to live your life in a certain way and of course not take your own life. But if you’re a believer, Samson was saved, Saul was saved, they all committed suicide.
And I’m not advocating suicide and we certainly would not want to encourage anybody to take their life. But it’s a fact that if you die as a believer, you’re going to go to heaven. That concludes today’s question and answer segment. There is no other topic that is more important to us than the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it was Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s mission to spread the gospel. Through your support for Bibleline, you too can help to spread the gospel of Christ throughout the world and to reach others with the message of salvation through Jesus.

Now join us as we return to today’s teaching series. If you go to Matthew 10 we’re leaping ahead in our study, but the gospel of the kingdom was not to be preached to Gentiles. That might be surprising if you didn’t know this. In Matthew 10 verse 5 it says, These 12, Jesus sent forth and commanded them saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles and into any city of the Samaritans inter-Enot, Matthew 10, 5, verse 6, but go rather to the law sheep of the house of Israel.
And as you go, preach saying the kingdom of heaven is at hand. So this is the gospel of the kingdom. Notice it was exclusively to be preached to the Jews. They weren’t to go to the Gentiles. They weren’t to go to any city of the Samaritans, but go rather to the law sheep of the house of Israel. So the gospel of the kingdom is not for us. The Lord’s prayer is really out of step for us because it’s a prayer about the kingdom.
And again, There’s confusion out there as we have all these people talking about the kingdom came in and Kingdom when the kingdom is not really us. We’re gonna be raptured out. Back to the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew chapter 6. It’s really the disciples prayer. Christ was teaching the disciples how to pray. This wasn’t a prayer that he prayed, but it was a prayer that he taught them how to pray. The real Lord’s prayers in John 17, I’m not gonna go over there, but that’s where he prayed before he went to the cross.
And that’s a beautiful chapter to read his prayer. And you can learn a lot from his prayer. But this is what I call the disciples prayer, where Christ taught the disciples how to pray. His prayer really is in John chapter 17. So I call this the disciples prayer as Christ taught the disciples how to pray. Give us this day, verse 11, our daily bread. We’re to ask for our daily provisions. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation. and delivers from evil, for that is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. So obviously we need to pray for our divisions, we need to pray for our relationships with other people, we need to pray that we are not led into temptation, but are delivered from evil. And God is the one of course who can deliver because he is the one who has the, for his is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever.
Verse 14 and 15 deal with the Christian life. If you forgive men, their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. That’s not the basis of salvation. I believe he’s talking here to people who are saved, who can pray, our Father which art in heaven. But in our relationships with others, it affects our ability to be an effective witness for Christ and our rewards and so on. So it’s important that we forgive others. Ephesians says, we’re to forgive for one another, even as Christ has forgiven us.
So we’re to forgive others like Christ has forgiven us. Verse 15, if you will not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours. Not talking about salvation, talking about your Christian walk, and we need to be forgiving of others. If we don’t, then that hinders our whole Christian walk. And we’re to do that. We’re 16, moreover, when you fast, be not as the hypocrites of a sad face for they just figure their faces, that they may appear on the mend of fast.
So some people make a big point on a fasting. Everybody fast, whether they realize it or not. You’ve heard me say it before, I think. But if you go to sleep at night, you don’t eat until morning, you fast at all night. And the first meal you have is called break fast or breakfast. So we all practice fasting whether we like it or not. Anytime you, unless you’re one of those munchies, persons are just eating continually, you do fast.
Everyone of us do. What is the purpose of it? Fast thing really allows you, I think, to have a clear mind. I learned before I learned it spiritually, that in college, if I took a test after I’d had a big meal, I didn’t do well because I was a little bit sleepy and dull. And so your mind is clear. When you eat a meal, what happens? All of your body energies go to digest that meal, and it takes away from your blood, from your brain, and you’re become a little bit sleepy, a little bit dull.
You need a big meal, what happens, you usually feel kind of sluggish. And if you want to discern from God’s word, if you’re listening for God to speak to you and you want to know his will, it doesn’t hurt too fast. And so you have a clear mind and you know, you don’t want to eat a sack of burgers and then sit down and try to study your Bible. It’ll probably fall right asleep. So anyway, I usually try to eat long before I speak, because I can think better when I have an eating right just before I speak.
And so I usually early Sunday mornings with about 6 or 6.30, and I get that out of the way before I ever speak. And then in the evening, I usually eat after church. It’s over and so on. So I try to not impact what I’m doing. I usually have breakfast with a friend every now and then, and it’s usually pretty close to my radio program because the only time he can meet with me in the morning sometimes. And he invites me to eat big.
And I light breakfast because I said, you know, this will mess up my whole radio show. I’ll go, ugh, I’m on the radio and I’ve had somebody slap me. But I know it will impact me. I know that when I violate that, I’m not as clear thinking and I kind of Syndra around. So it’s a good thing to do and obviously we all need to take that into consideration if you have something significant to do, don’t need a heavy meal before you do it.
Anyway if you make a big deal out of it, I had people come with me and especially new people don’t know me, they’ll come in and impress me and they’ll say. I fasted three days last week. You know. Like I’m supposed to do a double flip or something and response. And I said, oh, okay. And I just don’t use a respond very big. But it talks here about people that want to let people know that they fast. And they’re trying to get you to think that they’re very spiritual because they do.
It says here, don’t do that. The hypocrites, what do they do? They put on a sad countenance. I’m starving to death. death. They just figure their faces that they may appear on the men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have what? Their reward. If that’s what they’re looking for is the applause of men or to get people to say, oh, water spiritually fast every week, three days or whatever. I just go ho-hum, you know, and move on because they’re trying to, I know they’re trying to just impress me.
But it says in verse 17, but you, when you fast, anoint your head, wash your face, a good idea. Verse 18 that you appeared not to fast, but under thy father which is in secret, and thy father which sheeth in secret shall reward you what openly. So don’t make a big deal out of these things. Some people do and in some circles that’s a big deal. They walk around and they just talk about it all the time. They have to tell you how often they fast and all these kind kind of things to impress you.
And the Bible says they’re getting their reward. That’s what they want. They want you to, oh boy, wish I could be spiritual like you. Anyway, the point is don’t do it for men, do it for God. And if you’re doing it for the right reasons, then God is gonna bless you. Verse 19 says, lay up not for yourselves treasures upon the earth where moth and rust have corrupt and where thieves break through and steal. Wow. You know it’s true, isn’t it?
Everything here gets old and wears out and breaks down and so on. You buy a car and how long is it last? The modern day car starts to break. There’s so many things that are plastic and they just bust easily and quit running. The Bible talks about that. Rust and maws will eat up things or whatever. Thieves break through in steel and so you have to lock everything up. Verse 20 says, but lay up for yourselves treasures where? In heaven, where neither moths nor rust of corrupt is there any rust in heaven?
Apparently not. It says, where thieves do not break through and steal? What’s the crime rate in heaven? Zero. Nobody is stealing in heaven. And the point of all this is, it says in verse 21, for where your treasure is, there will your heart be what? one says to be focused heaven word and if our treasures are there that’s where our minds will be because people usually are thinking about what’s important to them and if your treasures are earthly then you’re focused on all your earthly treasures and if you’re focused on heavenly treasures then your focus is on heaven.

Any promises in John 637? If you come to him, he says, I will and no wise cast out anyone that comes to me. He’ll never cast you out. He’ll never lose you. Once you become saved, you’re safe forever. But then to be a disciple and hate not his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters. Yes, even his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. The next verse goes on to say, And whosoever doth not bear his cross and come after me.
It says in the last phrase, cannot be my disciple. Cannot be my disciple. Down in verse 33. It says, so likewise, who so ever he be of you that forsakeeth not all that he hath? He cannot be my disciple. This is talking about discipleship. So there’s a price to be paid, but how many times have you heard an evangelist or preacher? And I’ve heard it so many times. I want you to come forward at the invitation. And I want you to forsake all and follow Christ.
Take up his cross and live daily for him. And they say all of that for you to be saved. And that is totally wrong. That is not rightly dividing the word. Because to be saved, you simply trust Christ. You come to Him, trusting what Christ did for you at the cross, fully paid your sin debt. And if you simply come to Him and trust Him, He saves you. You know, when I trusted Christ as my Savior, I received the free gift of everlasting life.
I was 18 years of age. But it was not till a year later that I made up my mind I would live for Christ in serving. And I said, Lord, I’ll do whatever you want me to do. I’ll go wherever you want to go. I’ll say whatever you want me to say.” And that was a decision I made that was a lifelong decision for me. And I knew that that was what I would have to do to become his disciple.
But to be saved, I was already saved a year earlier by simply trusting what Christ did for me. And I did nothing for Christ over the coming year, but God began to work on me and He brought me to the place where I said, Lord, that is a stupid decision on my part. I am missing out not only now, but pre-turnity on what I could have if I would only live for you. And so I said, Lord, I am now going to become your disciple.
I am going to do whatever you want me to do. A lot of people thought I was crazy. I graduated with a five-year degree at the University of Florida in electrical engineering. That had been my goal since junior high. Science was the love of my life. And I said, Lord, I realize you want me to serve you. And so I’m willing to go another direction. And upon my graduation from the University of Florida, I realized that God wanted me in full-time Christian services, so I never really practiced what I had studied so many years to be able to do in the secular world.
But you know, I think God used it because the training that I got, A plus B is equal to C, made me take a look at the Bible in a way that other people I think don’t look at it. And that is to rightly divide it, to separate things out and make sure that it all makes sense. And if you add the Christian life to salvation, it doesn’t make sense anymore because verses are clear about salvation, not being of works, being the gift of God that there’s nothing required but you to simply come to Christ.
And I’ve had all kinds of people confused over the years because they hear all these additional things that they have to turn to and they have to walk me out. They have to unite with the church or they have to be water baptized or they have to live the Christian life and the list goes on and on and on and it varies from church to church. But basically they mix works with salvation when you have to rightly divide. And if you read Luke 14, 26, and you do the rightly dividing, the first phrase only talks about salvation.
If any man come to me comma, stop that salvation. The rest of the verse says you have to hate your father, your mother, your wife, your children, your brother, your sister, and your own life also. Or you cannot be, you cannot be my disciple. The price for discipleship is costly. It costs you everything. You have to say, Lord, I will do whatever you want me to do. And I will freely, willingly do that. And that is the price of discipleship.
The price for salvation has been paid for by Jesus at the cross, it costs his life. And shed blood. And when you trust in his finished work, he saves you and saves you forever.
