Now join us for Dr. Lynchton’s teaching for today as we turn to the Book of Matthew, chapter 7. False prophets will appear to be like Christians, but inwardly they are what? Raveny wolves. Always reminds me of the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
You remember the story. The wolf gets to grandma’s house and swallows grandmother up and the wolf then gets in grandmother’s clothes and is there in bed when little red riding comes in and she realizes that there’s something different here. Grandmother, why? What big ears you have, all the better to hear you with my dear, why big eyes you have and so on. The wolf had it as guys on. The wolf looked like grandmother. So watch out false preachers will come appearing to be genuine preachers of Christ and the cults will come claiming their Christian and they’re not.
So you have to ask do they have the disguise on and yes sometimes they do and it’s scary really in a way to think that there are people who appear like Christians and look like Christians that are actually lying in wait to deceive you and are not Christians at all. And the majority of those who claim to be Christian are not and the majority of those who represent Christ are not Christians. And so you have to wake up and realize that.
How do you detect them? Verse 16 says, you shall know them by their fruits. Most people misinterpret that or misread it and they’ll say you’ll know them by their works. That isn’t what it says. It says not that you’ll know them by their works because oftentimes their works are great. They’re exemplary. You say, wow, look at the good deeds these people do, why they feed the poor and they help the needy and full of good works. And so don’t be fooled.
When it says you’ll know them by their fruits, that’s talking about their converts. It says here the law of planting, sowing and reaping, do men gather grapes of thorns. If you’re going to go looking for grapes, you’d find them on a grapevine, wouldn’t you? Not on a thorn bush and if you’re looking for figs you’d be able to fig tree not a fissile bush So it’s saying here that every good tree bringing forth good fruit every corrupt tree bringing forth evil fruit So knowing them by their fruit means what when the Jhos witness comes to your door?
I Don’t have to go to Brooklyn, New York into the watchtower headquarters to know that the watchtower society and the Jhos witnesses are all messed up I just that examine this couple of fruit to come to my door and I ask them a couple of good questions and say, you’re corrupt fruit. You’re not going to get in an oven. I realize that the whole organization that taught them this way is wrong. That’s how you examine a false teacher. Talk to the people that are influenced by them and you’ll find out rather quickly.
It says here, every good tree, bring forth good fruit. Hopefully if you talk to somebody that I have taught and led to Christ, you get good answers and say, well, hey, they’re okay. They believe the Bible. They’re sound in their beliefs and they’re saved by faith alone and Christ alone. And so you examine by the fruit that they bear. It’s talking about their convert. Verse 18, a good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit. So if you’re a believer, if you’re telling what you heard and what you believe to be be safe.
Then the only possibilities that they would come out okay if they believe that same message. And neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. So I know you’d be shocked if a Jehovah’s Witness came to your door and said, I believe Jesus Christ is God and He’s the Savior and He’s the only way to heaven. He’s a…from a Jehovah’s Witness? That’s it. They came off of a bad tree. They can’t possibly be saying that. So something’s gone wrong.
So it says here every tree that brings forth good fruit is what? down and cast into the fire. They’ll be casting the help. So false systems from the headquarters down to the lowly foot soldier are all going to wind up in hell except that somebody bring them to truth and they get saved. But they’re not going to get saved from the corrupt tree that they come forth from. And so therefore obviously people that are in these different organizations you have to pray for them, they’re blinded, they’re bad fruit, they’re corrupt fruit because the whole tree that they’re coming off of is bad.
And all you have to do is examine their fruit. Just check out somebody who’s taught by a certain organization. Scientology. Talk to a couple of Scientologists. You don’t have to go to Clearwater the headquarters. I wouldn’t even walk in there head-quatered orders. I wouldn’t want to go into a building that’s so controlled by evil. But talk to a couple of their people out on the street. You’ll find out their faults. And you don’t want to be a part of the Scientology movement.
Lots of That’s the false belief systems out there. You don’t want to get into those. So verse 20 again reminds us, wherefore by their fruits, their converts, you shall know them. Check out the people that are taught by these organizations. They come to your door. All you have to do is ask that person. What do you believe about Christ? What do you believe about the Bible? What do you believe about salvation? What do you believe about heaven? What do you believe about hell?
Ask a couple of good questions and usually you’ll find out real quickly. people aren’t off of a good tree. They’re off of a bad tree and they are false. Verse 21, not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. But he that doeth the will of my Father, which is in heaven. Here you have to think for a minute because you have to rightly divide the word of truth. The will of God for salvation is different from the will of God for the one who has already saved.
So the will of God for salvation is that you believe on Christ. Let me give you a cross reference. This is so good we ought to stop and take an offering. I’m just teasing. Bet I thought that we get your attention. Alright, we’re going to go to John chapter 6 and you might want to write this down in the margin of your Bible as a good cross reference. John chapter 6 page 12, 1123, page 1123, John chapter 6. Look at you, well at verse 40.
It says, This is the will of Him that sent me. So it’s God’s will, the Father’s will. This is the will, John 640, that everyone would see it the Son and believeth on Him may have what? Everlasting life. So the will of the Father is for salvation that you believe on Christ the Son. When you believe on Christ, you’ll have eternal life and God will raise you up at the last day. So there is God’s will for salvation. Now after your save, God’s will is for you to serve Him.
Before your save, God’s will is that you do nothing, but trust in what Christ did for you. It’s not of work, so any man should boast. So you realize you cannot save yourself and simply trust Christ. But after your save, God’s will is, you know, Satan is really clever. He knows that. Did you notice that he has the lost people working like crazy to earn salvation because he knows that you can’t be saved by works and all the cults are out there feverishly working to try to earn their way to heaven.
Whereas once a person gets saved, then he tries to get the Christian to sit back and do nothing. Has he been successful with those that are born again? Yeah. Once you get saved, he gets you to sit down and do nothing. Sit on your blessed assurance as his theme. And so a lot of Christians are sitting back just enjoying their salvation, doing nothing. That’s when we ought to get into action and do works because it’s for rewards and for reaching others and for pleasing the Lord.
But Satan manages to do it just right. He gets the loss to work to be saved, knowing that they won’t be saved by works. And then when a person does get saved, he turns on them and he gets them to do no works. You just sit back and relax and do nothing. Whereas it ought to be the opposite. The lost person needs to realize he cannot work to be saved and simply trust Christ, whereas the Christian now ought to be working, ought to be serving and active for Christ.
So just watch what the devil does. And the devil has it right on. He knows that works won’t save you. So he gets that lost person out there knocking on doors, sweating all day long, trying to hand out their watchtower literature. And that’s exactly what they’re doing. They’re trying to earn their way in the heaven. Just like Mother Teresa was trying to. I earn her way to heaven in Calcutta. If you read her own papers, she wasn’t doing it because she was serving Christ.
She was doing it to earn her way to heaven because to examine that fruit and ask the right questions. Jesus examines the fruit, it’s too late for them at this point, at the Great White Throne Judgment. Many will say to me in that day, that day is the judgment described in Revelation 20, 11 through 15. The Great White Throne Judgment where the lost will stand before the Lord. And they’ll say to Jesus at that time, Lord, Lord, didn’t we preach in your name and didn’t we peel and cast out demons in your name and and in, didn’t we do many wonderful works?
You’re listening to Bible Eye, a teaching ministry that’s dedicated to delivering the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That are many items available from our resource center, such as Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s DVD Teachings onronghopics of predestination, false gospels, and is Lordship Salvation a counterfeit gospel? in addition to many others when you call 1-800-576-3771. Now, we’re going to take a break from our teaching to listen to Dr. Lindstrom answering questions from callers and then we’ll rejoin today’s teaching. We’re going to go all the way to Denver, Colorado and talk to Adam in Denver, Colorado.
Adam, welcome to my blind. You are on the air. Hey, thank you, Pastor. I have a question, a couple of questions in Matthew. The first one is Matthew 18 verses 21 and 22 about forgiveness, 70 times 70 or 70 times 7. Could you explain that for me please? Well it should, we should be forgiving like God is forgiving and I think it’s an expression to mean that you just don’t stop forgiving. We need to always forgive others as God has forgiven us in Christ.
I love Ephesians 4.30, which tells us exactly that, that we ought to forgive others even as Christ has already forgiven us. Think of all the things that we’ve done wrong in our lifetime, and Jesus forgave them all as He took those sins and nailed them to the cross and paid for them by His death and shed blood. And we ought to also be, if were to be God-like, be forgiving as well of those who sin against us. I think that’s the answer.
Just keep on forgiving. Okay. So you don’t come around. No, I wouldn’t take a log here and say, okay, I’ve forgiven you 400 and we’re getting close to the end here. I’m not going to forgive you anymore when I get to 70 times seven. Okay. My next question is in Matthew 2 verse 15. And it says in there that if the Jewish people didn’t accept Christ as Messiah the first time, will they expect him to come out of Egypt as his verse?
You know, as it says, refer back to Hosea, I believe? No, I don’t think so. It’s talking about the Bible. It’s talking about a prophecy fulfilled of his first coming when he did go down to Egypt and obviously the children of Israel coming out of Egypt were a picture of how a Redeemer would come out of Egypt and that was Moses and here the Redeemer for the world and for our sins, Jesus also comes out of Egypt. An interesting parallel.
OK. All right. One last question. Are we dead up? How are there anyway and get some the hymns that you talk about? The old hymns. Do you have them available on CD or anything like that? We don’t have the old hymns. But we do have the hymnal that we use in our worship services here, which has the grand old hymns of the faith. And we offer that for sale in our bookstore. you can call and order it. I believe it goes for $20.
They’ll ship it right out to you. Okay. Thank you very much for taking my call. All right. Thank you, Adam, in Denver, Colorado. And we’re now going to go to Tom in Tampa, Florida. Tom, welcome to Bibleline. Good morning, our potential appreciation program. I would like to know the significance of three sounds of voices that have to be heard at the Rapture. Well, you know, it says in 1st, I think it’s 4-16, the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout.
We know that that shout probably is what will bring forth the bodies from the earth, the new bodies that the saints will get when they come back with Christ from heaven as they’re absent from the body, present with the Lord, but they’ll come back and get their new body. You know, when Jesus was at the grave of Lazarus in John 11, when he shouted, Lazarus, come forth. Lazarus came forth out of the grave. So I think that’s the picture there.
Also, it says here, there will be the voice or the archangel. So, apparently, the archangel, which is Michael, will also shout and announce this event. And then lastly, the Trump of God. So there will be a trumpet that will sound. And this trumpet perhaps is the trumpet that we move out on. If you read in the book of, I think it’s an accident, so there were two trumpets that they would sound. One would alert the people that God was about to move the camp in the wilderness and they would pack up.
And then the second Trump was the final Trump, the last Trump, when they would move out. And so then they would follow the Lord as his presence would be seen either in the pillar of fire at night or the cloud in the day and they would follow that pillar or that cloud depending on when their God moved them at day or night and they would follow that as he led them through the wilderness during those 40 years. So I think those are the three and that’s we’ll find out for sure what it all means when it happens but that’s probably what they all are about.
And I lost our color I think he decided to just listen off here. We have John the St. Petersburg and he says, are you familiar with Stephen Kathy Gray? I think that they’re way off target. I would stay away from him. It says I heard him say that Martin Luther was a racist against the Jews. Well, guess what? Everybody that came out of the Reformation pretty much was anti-Jewish, and this is because of predarism and replacement theology. Back in the 5th century, Augustine taught that God was through with Israel and that they were cursed and that the church has replaced Israel.
This is called replacement theology and the Roman Catholic Church holds that doctrine to this very day and they have been very much anti-Semitic in their positions down through time. And obviously, I think more recently the Catholic Church has apologized to the Jews, but they have had that position. And most of the Protestant churches that came out of the Reformation held that same false teaching that came out of Roman Catholicism that God was all through the Jews. And so therefore they are hated.
And you know, Jewish people are very difficult to reach with the gospel sometimes because they have been called the Christ killers, the Christ killers. And guess what? We all were our Christ killers. everybody in the human race is responsible for Christ’s death because he died for your sins and mine and to try to hold the Jews totally accountable for that is wrong. The Gentiles are also responsible and if you go back to the cross of Calvary you know that the Jews delivered Christ to be crucified but it was Pilate the one who represented the the Gentile world government of the time Rome that actually produced the sentence against him.
But at the same time Jesus said, no man takes my life from me. I have the power to land down on myself and I have the power to take it up again. Jesus Christ gave his life. But we’re all responsible because he died for every one of us. So you could say John Calvin, John Wesley, everybody that came out of the Reformation had this bent against the Jews and Roman Catholic churches held up position down through time and Christ.
And the Jews have been called Christ killers as a result. But we should love the Jew and we need to win them. They need to trust Christ and we need to bring the gospel to them and lead as many of them as we can to Christ. Have you trusted Christ as your Savior? There’s only one way to be saved, only one way to go to heaven and that is Jesus himself. Jesus said in John 14, 6, I am the way.
I am the truth. I am the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me. No man, no woman, no child. No one can come to the Father except by Jesus Christ. If you reject Christ, my friend, you have no chance because there’s no other way. There’s no other way. Peter said it so clearly in Acts 4, 12. He said, neither is there salvation in any other. For there is none other name under heaven, give it among men, whereby we must be safe.
Most churches teach works for salvation. It’s sometimes very subtle, but you have to do something to be saved according to most churches when the Bible says you can do nothing. It’s not of yourself that our best righteous deeds are filthy rags inside of God Isaiah 64-6. And you have nothing to offer God. I have nothing to offer God. You don’t either. I don’t care who you are. I don’t care where you attend or what you do. You don’t have a thing to offer God.
The Bible says your best Brightest deeds are filthy rags in the sight of God. You have to come just as you are You have to simply recognize your need That you’re lost and headed for hell and you need a Savior and Jesus Christ is that one and when you come to him By faith trusting that he made the full payment for your sin was buried and rose again from the dead God saved you It’s the most important decision you’ll ever make in your life.
I hope you’ve made that decision to trust Christ and Savior. You can do it right now. You can whisper a prayer. You could say something like as follows. I got on the center. Admit it, we all are. But right now, what I just heard made a lot of sense. And I trust Jesus Christ right now, as the one who died and paid for my sins, in full on the cross by his death and shed blood, was buried and rose again from the dead.
And I trust Jesus Christ right now to save me, to give me the gift of eternal life. And the moment you do that, God saves you. We’re going to take a couple of our off-air questions here. We have several and we have a caller from Sarasota, Florida and he gives us this offer question. He says, my friend is a Christian dad. He’s going to meet his Mormon son in Utah. He needs questions to ask his son about his faith of Mormonism.
He’s leaving for Utah tomorrow. He needs help. Well, there’s a couple of things. First of all, the Jesus of Mormonism is not the Jesus of the Bible. To be saved you have to believe on the Jesus of the Bible. And the Jesus of the Bible according to the Scriptures is God. He’s God who took on human flesh. John’s gospel is so wonderful and has a lot of reference to that. It says in John 1-1, in the beginning was the Word.
The Word was with God and the Word was God. And then it says verse 14, and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. So God actually came to the earth and took on human flesh. And it says in John 1, 12, to as many who has received Him, that is the Jesus that is the God of creation who took on flesh at Bethlehem and died on the cross of Calvary. When you receive Him, God gives you the authority to become born again to become His sons.
The Mormons also, I believe in salvation by works, water baptism and many other things are essential and obviously that’s completely conjured to the Bible. Ephesians 2, 8, and 9 says salvation is not of yourself. It’s not of works. Let’s say He mentioned the most. It is the gift of God. So you might want to use just a couple of verses. John 3, 16, along with John 1, 12, and the fact that Jesus is introduced in John’s gospel as being God.
And then the fact that salvation is not a works and if you can handle those issues right there, you’ve got it made. I hope that helps and thank you for calling in with that question and we’ll pray for your son that he’ll come to know Christ. We hope that you’re learning with us. As you listen to this question and answer segment featuring Dr. Hank Lindstrom. If you’d like to hear today’s program again, then please visit our website at BibleLineMinistries.org.

It’s time for us to take a short break now. When we return, we will continue this question and answer segment and then hear more Bible teaching from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. To pledge your support for Bibleline, give us a call at 1-800-576-3771.
That’s 1-800-576-3771. Well we were talking about water baptism and how that we are not required to be water baptized to be saved. But as a believer, there are two ordinances, water baptism and the Lord suffer. and as believers we ought to observe both. Water baptism once as a symbol, a picture, a ceremony that talks about how we were cleansed of our sin by the blood of Christ, and then the Lord’s Supper, which has to do with our daily walk, and that ought to be done often.
And the Bible says, as often as you do this, or as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you do show or proclaim or preach or teach the Lord’s death until He comes. I’m going to turn to Acts 2.38 because we got several callers saying, what about Acts 2.38? Well, what about Acts 2.38? The next 238 is when Peter was preaching at Pentecost and here he had a hostile audience, one that had just crucified Christ. It’s the leadership of Israel.
He says in verse 22, You men of Israel hear these words, Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved door. or authenticated of God among you by signs or miracles and wonders and signs, which as you yourselves know him being delivered by the Determinate Council and for knowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked ends of crucified and slain them, whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that he should be holding of it.
Here was Christ crucified, because they thought he was an imposter, a fraud, a counterfeit, who comes back from the dead, and Peter says, you need to think about what you have done here and realize that you made a big mistake. And here’s the conclusion of his message in Acts 2.36. He says, therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God have made that same Jesus. Which one? He tells us here, the one whom you have crucified both Ward, that means he’s God, he’s deity, and he is Christ, he is the Messiah.
So you all made a big mistake. The Messiah came and you crucified him. God in flesh came the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the God man. You have taken by wicked hands have crucified him. And they were convicted in their hearts in verse 37. And they said to Peter and the apostles, been in brethren, what should we do? And Peter says repent. Well the word repent means to change your mind. The Greek word is meta noia. Write it down.
Meta, M-E-T-A means change. Noia means mind. The two words together met anoia, a change of mind. That’s all it’s talking about here. It’s talking about they needed to change their mind and realize they had made a serious mistake in rejecting the Messiah. They needed to trust Him as Savior. By the way, repent does not mean turn from sin or sorrow for sin. That problem came about because the English word repent does not mean the same thing as the Greek word met anoia.
It was a bad translation of the Greek to English. what they should have done is what we call a transliteration. The word in the Greek for baptize is baptizo and they didn’t have an equivalent word in the English language. So what they did is they took the O on the word baptizo, dropped it and replaced it with an E, made it an English word and brought it into the English language. So the word baptize is really a Greek word that has been brought into the English language.
There was no quiver word to translate it into. Wouldn’t that be something if they had done that with metanoia? Preachers everywhere would be saying, instead of, REPENT! They would be saying, Metanoia! Well, some little strange today, but at least people would go look up the correct word and find out what it means. It does not mean turn from sin. It does not mean sorrow for sin. It means to change your mind. And here Peter was preaching to a crowd that needed to change their mind, and then he says, be baptized.
Now the problem here is that most people when they see the word baptize, their minds lock up and you know they think water, water, water, it’s interesting but there are ten different baptisms. Most of them are dry and they don’t involve any liquid whatsoever. There’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit, there’s the baptism of fire, there’s the baptism of death. None of those that we can list them off and I have a CD that you can order that cover all 10 of those baptisms and some articles that you can look up on my website and download it, cover them all.
Why not take a look at the context and ask yourself what baptism is being taught here? Well, here it says, be baptized every one of you and does it say in water? No. Look at Acts 2.38. It says be baptized every one of you in the name, in the name, in the name. We’re going to rejoin stations that have been on break into the second half hour by It’s a go-go way. Welcome back from the break. We hope that you’re learning with us as you listen to Bibleline and hear real-life questions with scriptural answers from Dr.
Hank Lindstrom. Please, make plans to join us and open your Bible as we also present in-depth studies covering a variety of biblical topics. Now, let’s return to our question and answer segment and then you’ll hear more Bible teaching from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We have John in Riverview, Florida and John, welcome to Biblehead. Thank you, Dr. Lindstrom. I hear you again. I listen to you all the time. That mention I was concerned I hear a reading the New Testament and then I hear about the return of Israel in 1948 back to their land.
I’m not sure if I understand when did they leave the land. Okay there are two dispersions spoken of in the Bible. There’s one when Nebuchadnezzar came against Israel. the Assyrians came and took away the 10 northern tribes around 700 years BC and then Nebuchadnezzar came against Jerusalem in BC 606 and took the southern two tribes away captive into Iraq. And so those Jews have been what we call the Desporah and many of them went back and were there in the time of Christ.
Many of those became Christians and James writes in his letter in James in New Testament to the 12 tribes Canada broad so he writes to those Jews that were scattered abroad that trusted Christ as their Savior and Gives them instruction in the book of James But there was a second dispersion greater than the first that happened in 80 70 when the Romans came and destroyed Jerusalem and whatever Jews they didn’t kill they put on the slave market and they They have been scattered for the past 2000 years and they have been virtually a desolate land without the Jews for the past 2000 years.
But what is interesting is that the Bible talks about in the Old Testament a return from that second dispersion would be the time when the Messiah or Jesus would come back. Let me give you the verse in Isaiah 11 verse 11, and it says, it shall come to pass in that day. The Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left from Assyrian and all the islands and coasts of the earth.
We have wonderful passages like that that tell us about two dispersions, one that occurred way back around the time of the Assyrians taking away the 10 northern tribes and Nebuchadnezzar taking away the southern tribes around 600 years before Christ and then a return after the seven years of captivity but not all returned. But then in 8070 that was a total dispersion as Rome put everybody on the slave market that was a Jew and sold them out if they weren’t already killed.
And so the return today is that second return that Isaiah speaks about that is the final return and then Jesus comes back. Hope that helps. Yes, it does. Thank you very much. All right, you’re welcome. And we now have Dave in Tampa, Florida. Dave, welcome to Bible I have a question about how do you reconcile that in the Jewish language and there is actually no J after the time of Jesus and Joshua and Yahweh and we hear from you as far as recommending King James Version and some of the translations that are made and letters that are used are incorrect if translated directly.
I agree and nobody really knows for sure how to pronounce his name. name, but what we are doing is giving an English pronunciation. So it’s Yahweh, but the Y sound is pronounced as a J in English, and that’s really what’s going on there. The question about how to pronounce God’s name, it’s interesting when we talk about different languages, Dave. For example, the J in Spanish is pronounced in English. We pronounce it Jose instead of the J-Sound and even Jesus we pronounce it Jesus.
So there’s an H-Sound instead of a J-Sound. So these are language difficulties and I don’t think God is terribly upset about that as long as we are believing in the God of the Bible and this is his name as it translates into another language. And we do have those differences and we just have to wait and see what God says to see him one day. But actually nobody even knows how to pronounce God’s name. It’s four consens in the Hebrew YHWH.
And that is most often pronounced today as Yahweh. They put two vowels, A and E between the YHWH. So it’s Y-A-H-W-E-H pronounced Yahweh. And we’ll have to wait until we get to heaven to see if we did it right. I had two other quick questions. I’ve already recommended several or I can remember the gentleman’s name, the translation of the King James. Which are thoughts on the Bollinger translation? The Bollinger Study Bible? Is it familiar with it? Well, I don’t like it.
Well, I don’t like the Bollinger because he’s, I think he’s a hyper-disomstationalist. But the Scofield is what I like. And the Scofield Bible’s notes are excellent. And the notes are all geared to doctrine. In other words, most Bibles have biographical, geographical, historical type of data. They’re wonderful for Bible trivia. But when you want to know about redemption, salvation, glorification, predestination, evolution, inspiration or whatever, angels, demons, the skill field notes are geared to those doctrines and it’s powerful. Okay. And yesterday, and I know that the teacher has some hymns.
I’m sure. I’m wondering what the difference between the hymn and the war. What I was trying to say is that the early church didn’t have it at all, and the focus is now shifted to, it’s almost all that, in very little word at all, whereas the early church came together, if you read Acts 2.41, that came together, steadfastly, number one for apostles doctrine, which is scripture. So that was the number one thing they were looking for. They weren’t, I had a guy the other day and invited a church, he says, do you have a man?
What kind of music do you have? That was the only thing he was focused on. He was not focused on the word at all. And that’s the problem today is that everybody’s being attracted to the church, not for the word of God, but for the entertainment or for the music or the praise and worship. Well, yes, I agree. We shifted the word down there. The point I was thinking was that we sure we I love to sing the old traditional hymns and we do all that, but we that’s not our focus.
Our focus here is the word of God. Thank you. Thank you Dave and we have another Dave. It’s Dave Dave and we have Dave in Plant City. Dave, welcome to Bibleline your own year. Good morning Dr. Hank, it’s always a pleasure to talk to you and how are you today? Good. Good, great. I’ve got three questions I’d like to ask you today. One of the earlier callers mentioned trumpets. I hear a lot of people that I talk to. They think the trumpets and revelations are the same trumpets and Corinthians and thessalonians.
and when I look at when those books were written, Corinthians was written in what, 59 AD and 54, so in Revelations in 95. So how could those trumpets, those people think those trumpets are in any kind of relationship? Well, they’re not for a number of reasons, but also the seven trumpets won’t sound until after the rapture during the tribulation period. And as I mentioned earlier, it’s really referring to the last Trump is the Trump being the Trump that they would move out on when the first Trump was sounded.
They were alerted to pack their bags and get ready to move because God was going to move the camp in the wilderness. And on the last Trump, the second Trump, they moved. They actually began movement and moved out to the new location. And so it is the phrase, the expression, the last trump is the trump on which we move. When that happens, we’re going to go up and meet the Lord in the air. Does Psalm 81-3, does that have any relationship with the rapture or anything?
The mention of the trumpet there? I don’t think so at all. No, I don’t think the rapture is in the Old Testament. Okay. Ninety-ten Psalms that you mentioned. What does the four score later in the verse mean and then at the end of the verse? 80 years and of course you know some people live now even more than 80 years is talking about that God might bless you with longer than 70 years but the actual length of time that God has given for us to live is 70 that’s the average time that he’s appointed for man to live and then of course our souls fly away to heaven we are going to die and go to be with the Lord.
So it’s talking about 70 years, 80 years, maybe a little bit longer than you’re going to go. Thank you so much and you have a great day and God bless you and your ministry. Thank you Dave and that was Dave in Plant City. We have Anthony down in Sarasota, Florida and Anthony, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes, good morning Dr. Lynch, gentlemen. God bless you. I had a question regarding the book of James, chapter 2, verse 11, forward.
This is speaking about faith without works as dead. I just wanted to know if you can explain a little bit on this. I’ve been on this verse. Sure. James is talking about after you’re saved. He talks all the way through the book to believers. He calls in my brethren, my brethren, my brethren, my brethren. Verse 14 of chapter 2 says, what does it profit my brethren? He’s talking to believers. He’s also talking about the judgment seat of Christ. He’s not talking about unsaved people, how to be saved.
He’s talking to save people about how to come out on top of the Judge of the City of Christ. He says in verse 12, so speak ye and so do ye as they they’ll be judged by the perfect law of liberty. That’s the Judge of the City of Christ. When you’re going to be judged, you’ve had liberty since you’ve been saved to make choices. And if you choose the live for the Lord, you’re going to be rewarded. If you don’t have any works, you’ll not be rewarded.
In verse 14 he talks about profit, that’s reward. It’s earned, salvation is without exception, always spoken of as the gift of God, which is not earned, it was purchased by God through Christ’s death and shed blood. But rewards or profit or gain come as a result of our efforts as we live for Christ after we’re saved. And James says even if you have faith but have no works, it will not save you. 14, not from hell. He’s talking about the consequences of the Judgement seat of Christ.
It will not save you from the loss of reward. It will not save you from the embarrassment. It will not save you from the regret. It will not save you from the sorrow. It will not save you from the tears. And it goes on and on all of the consequences of you not having any works as a saved person. You’ll still be saved from hell. But you will not be save from the consequences of that judgment which will be obviously a real rude awakening for those that have not lived for Christ, they will have no rewards in heaven, they will be embarrassed, they will be obviously regretful and tearful.
And it’s not until after the thousand year reign of Christ that God comes over and wipes away those tears. You’ll read Revelation chapter 21 verse 4 that the Lord comes over in person in Wipes the we await the tears from our eyes. But there will be tears, I believe, for a time in heaven as we regret what we didn’t do for the Lord while we were able to. Hope that answers your question and helps a lot, Anthony. And thank you for your call.
That concludes today’s question and answer segment. There’s no other topic that is more important to us than the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And it was Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s mission to To spread the gospel, through your support for Bibleline, you too can help to spread the gospel of Christ throughout the world and to reach others with the message of salvation through Jesus. Visit our website at BibleLineMinistries.org for copies of any of our resources such as Dr. Lindstrom’s audio CDs on the books of Ephesians or James, plus many others.
Now join us as we return to today’s teaching series. They’ll say to Jesus at that time, Lord, Lord, didn’t we preach in your name and didn’t we heal and cast out demons in your name and in your name? Didn’t we do many wonderful works? Verse 23, Christ said, He’ll profess unto them, I never knew you. Please note, He doesn’t say I once knew you and I lost you. He says, I never knew you. Never. They were never saved. What was their problem?
They violated God’s plan of salvation, which is not a work so as they mentioned, boasts their brag. They’re boasting, they’re bragging. They’re saying, Lord, look at what we did. Why we preached, we healed, we did wonderful works in your name? Wrong answer. If they had only said, didn’t you die on the cross of Calvary, didn’t you die to pay for our sins and you shed your blood to wash away our sins and that you were buried and you rose again from the dead, he was to come right on in.
Notice these are people who are trusting in their works to be saved. And they’re not trusting Christ. And so Christ says, I’m sorry, but I never knew you. And look at all the so-called Christian organizations out there that are working themselves to death to get to heaven. Just as I said a moment ago, the devil’s clever. He gets the lost person working their way to heaven and they won’t make it. But once a person gets saved, then he gets them to shut down and do no works.
Isn’t that amazing? And more I think about that, I say, how successful that devil is at his work. He’s a master at what he does. He gets Christians to sit back and do very little, and yet he gets the lost. And you have to admire the works of the lost organizations. They’re out there really putting it all out there, aren’t they? To try to earn their way to heaven. And when you interview them, that’s exactly what you’ll find that they’re doing.
They’re trusting in their works. What are you trusting in to get you to heaven? And if you ask a couple good questions, they’re going to tell you that’s what they’re doing. I remember two little old Jehovah’s Witness ladies came. I invited them in out of the hot sun. They sat down at a table with me and they had their briefcases with all their literature and all their stuff and I said, you know the reason why you’re here to talk to me is because you’re trying to earn your way into the kingdom This one little fiery lady says don’t you tell me what I believe?
I’ll tell you what I believe and that’s the one. Sorry go ahead you tell me and essentially she said the same thing in her own words. I said, well, you just confirmed it. Anyway, I said, what happens if you throw away that briefcase and you stop knocking on doors and you don’t come out and talk to people anymore? What would happen? Oh, I’d be annihilated. In other words, Joe’s witnesses don’t believe in hell. They believe in annihilation for the wicked lost.
And so they believe they’ll be annihilated. And that’s a good question to ask them. What happens if you stop all this? You just pitch out your briefcase all the watchtower literature and you just sit back and do nothing anymore. What would happen to you then? You’ll see a panic come on their face. I did that. I’d be annihilated. And admitting that they’re believing in their works. They’re admitting that they’re trusting in their works to get into heaven. And that’s what these little ladies tried to pull on me.
That’s one was real fiery. When I began to, you know, corner her with the Scriptures, they all have an excuse. Watch what they do. They’re taught to do this. When they get in the pension, they can’t handle you. They’ll look at their watch and they’ll say, you know, our ride is going to be at the corner in about five or ten more minutes. And if we’re not there, we won’t have a ride home. And you say, well, look, I’ll take you home.
You can stay here for a couple hours. Well, no, we’re committed. They’re going to be looking for us at the corner and they have a planned way out. But I love to make them sweat a little bit, so I always say they just stay right here. I’ll take you home. I’ll drive you home. In fact, I wanted to get your address anyway because I want to send my team to your house. I have never been able to get a witness yet and give me their address.
Because I said, we have teams that go out and we want to come and visit your home this week. Would you give me your address and your phone number because we’re coming over this weekend? Never. I haven’t gotten one yet. Nobody. No witness yet. And I’m sometimes chasing that. Can I get your address? We want to send our team to your house. You know, and they, boy, they just will not give it to you. Try it. It’s fun. I mean, you really have some fun with yourself.
You might as well enjoy yourself while you’re at it. But they don’t ever give it out. It’s amazing because I’ve tried it so many times. It’s kind of fun because I know they’re not going to give me an address. They don’t want any team coming to their house. They don’t want people coming over there. They want to victimize you. So try it. You might find that to be true. Anyway, Jesus noticed is examining the fruit of all the false preachers.
Here they’re standing before Him at the Great White Throne Judgment. And what does the examination show? They’re all bragging about their works. Look at the kind of works that they did. Talk about why they preached in the name of Jesus. They healed in the name of Jesus. And they did many wonderful works in the name of Jesus. And Christ said, I’m sorry, wrong answer. I never knew you. You say I didn’t give the right answer. He’s examining the fruit.
The false prophets had already taught them works for salvation. They bought into that. They’re standing before Jesus. And when he examines all that fruit, it’s not really good fruit. It’s corrupt fruit. And so he says, depart from me. Either work iniquity. They’re all cast in hell because they’re all corrupt fruit. They all came off corrupt trees. And they were all taught by false prophets or false teachers. I have to think of Catholicism as being the biggest. One billion people under the teaching of Rome that teaches works for salvation.
The Pope himself doesn’t have any real expectation of going to heaven. The Pope is worried about how many years he’s going to have to spend in purgatory. Isn’t that amazing? The head of the largest organization in the world that claims to be Christian and the The Pope has no assurance. of his salvation. When it would be great to get next to the Pope and say, you know, Pope, you could be sure of going to heaven. If you’d only trust Christ, forget all the good works that you’ve done, and just simply trust Jesus and you could be assured of going to heaven you’d have eternal life.
When it would be great to lead the Pope to Christ, it would be wonderful. He’s not saved. And the whole organization teaches works for salvation and those that people are not saved. I believe I’ve led several Roman Catholic priests to Christ. I found that when they’re out of their clerical uniform, they’ll tell you what they really believe. I had one Catholic priest, we got a chance to talk together, he’s in his regular shirt and pants. He told me he didn’t even believe in heaven or hell.
Didn’t believe in the Bible. I said, why are you a priest? Why don’t you do something else? He said, oh, my father would kill me. He raised me in Ireland to be a priest. He was so fearful of his father that his father would probably come over to America and kill him if he didn’t continue. This is what he raised his boys to do. He said, all of our boys in our family have become priests. And that’s, I guess, the greatest export of Ireland is priests to the world, because they really produce a lot of them.
But they’re lost. I said, wouldn’t it be great if you trusted Christ, went back and led your dad to Christ? He panicked. And just choked it, I think, that he would tell his dad that the Catholic Church was wrong, and that Christ was the only way to heaven. Sad. I spoke over at Jesuit high school a number of times. I had lunch with one of the priests at the cafeteria, and I said, what’d you think about what I was sharing in the classroom?
I gave the gospel, just like I would do here. And he said, well, if that works for you, that’s fine. Whatever floats your boat, you know, he didn’t seem to care. And, but I gave many full assemblies at Tampa Catholic High School, and they had the whole student body and the gym, and all the priests and nuns were there. And the principal, their sister Julie liked me. And so she gave me carte blanche approval to do whatever I wanted.
I went in and gave the gospel a hand gesture invitation to the else. And while I saw priest, you know, wanting to get me in, and tar and feather me in, and but the principal was right there and they didn’t dare cross this sister Julie. She was tough. But I was in. And you know, I got to give the message. But I know that the priest and nuns didn’t like the message I gave because it wasn’t what the Catholic Church taught.

Be sure to tune in to another edition of Bibleline from Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida. Look at Acts 2.38. It says, be baptized every one of you in the name, in the name, in the name. You see the word baptize, which is from the Greek word baptizo, really means to wash or cleanse. It is translated that way in other places. So how are you washed or cleanse? It says here in the name. In other words, this is a cleansing that occurs when you trust Jesus as your Savior and the authority of Jesus Christ, who is God who came and died for your sins, he authorizes your sins to be forgiven upon your trusting Him as Savior.
So he says, be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus. This is not water. There is no water in verse 38. Just like a call to the other day was asking about John 3.5, there’s no water. It talked about a birth of water with Nicodemus and then a birth of the Spirit. But there’s a tremendous difference between being born and being baptized. You don’t want to take your wife to the church if she’s going to deliver a child, you take her to the hospital.
If you don’t know the difference between a birth and a baptism, you’ve got serious problems. Well, let me just have you hold your place just a minute here, but if you turn to 1 Corinthians 6, unless you think I’ve lost my mind, it talks here about those that were lost at Corinth, then here the apostle Paul says to them, and such for some of you, but you are washed. That’s baptized. You are washed and then it says how? In the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
That really means not somebody being water baptized and they say, I baptized you in the name of Jesus. It’s really talking about somebody being washed of their sin in the authority that Christ gave. Somebody once said to go to heaven is like this, that God has given a check drawn on the bank of heaven in the amount of eternal life made out to to whosoever believe it. In other words, you could cash that check if you would put your name in that pay to line.
It’s to pay to whosoever believe it. It’s a check for eternal life. It’s drawn on the Bank of Heaven and it’s signed by Jesus Christ. And in the name of Jesus Christ, His authority grants that check power. And when you put your name in their near believer you can cash it in and receive everlasting life. Well that’s what Peter is saying. You change your mind, repent and be cleansed or washed every one of you in the name or in the authority of Jesus Christ.
And two things will happen. You’ll receive the remission of your sins and you’ll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Some people really get hung up on this verse and they say you can’t receive the Holy Spirit and you can’t receive the remission of your sins until your water baptized. You know what I tell them? If I could show you a verse where people received the Holy Spirit before they were water baptized, would you change your mind? And I take him to Acts 10.
Here you have Peter preaching. Same thing. He tells them if they would believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. I tell them? They would receive the remission of their sin and receive the Holy Spirit. In verse 44 they received the Holy Spirit while Peter is preaching. Then we find here that Peter says in verse 47, Acts 10, 47 it says, can any man Peter says, forbid water that these should not be baptized with water which have have received the Holy Spirit as well as we know that they already had the Holy Spirit.
Now if you believe Acts 2,38 is talking about water, then you would not be able to receive the Holy Spirit, nor the forgiveness of your sin, until your water baptized. But this proves that that interpretation is wrong because here in Acts 10 these people believed and received the remission of their sins and they received the Holy Spirit and they were not yet water baptized. And so it says here can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received, have received the Holy Spirit as well as we.
They got the same Holy Spirit we got Peter said and can we forbid them enough to permit water baptized? Answer is no. Again, we have to run, keep looking up, Jesus is coming, and I hope you tell your friends about Bibleline, especially those overseas. Tell them about the website they can catch Bibleline anywhere in the world. God bless, keep looking up, Jesus is coming, and we believe he’s coming soon.
