With answers taken straight from the Bible, we pray that Bibleline will be glorifying to God as well as educational for you. is a continuation of Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s ministry of spreading the good news of salvation throughout the world, salvation by simply trusting Jesus Christ alone as your Savior. We hope that you will join us for this first by verse study of the Book of Matthew as we explore topics such as Jesus foretelling his death and resurrection, his rejection by the Jewish leaders, the many parables told by Jesus and more.
Now, join us for Dr. Lynchstrom’s teaching for today as we turn to the Book of Matthew chapter 10. We don’t have to fear those who can kill our body but can’t kill our soul. But the one people that are lost ought to fear is the one that could cause their soul to be lost forever in hell. And what is interesting that Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in the immortality of the soul is a great verse because it says what fear not them which kill the body but are not able to kill the soul the soul lives on beyond death and many of the cults deny the existence of our soul beyond death so here’s a good one for you put that away someplace or maybe in the back of your Bible make a note of this verse that says the soul lives beyond death and as some cults teach the soul is annihilated at death or ceases to
exist. That’s not true. Verse 29, are not two sparrows sold for a farthing. That was a small amount of money. And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your father. I used to read that verse wrong for a long time. And I used to read it in the way that when a sparrow died, the Lord was aware of the sparrow’s death and took note of it. That isn’t what it says. Look at what it says. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing, one of them shall not fall to the ground without your father.
Whoa, that’s a whole different meaning. The father is present at the death of even every sparrow and it doesn’t happen without his presence there. And then he says in verse 31, fear ye not therefore, your of more value than many sparrows. If the Lord has his eye on the sparrow, wow, then he certainly cares a lot more about you. Wonderful hymn or song written about that his eyes on the sparrow also verse 30 says the very hairs of your head are all numbered That’s incredible.
You know think about it. I mean who has ever taken time to count all the hair on their head Amazing but the Lord has I’m losing hair So I guess the count would have gone down from a few years ago but In any case, he counts every hair. He knows exactly how many hairs you have on your head and not exciting to know. And the Lord pays close attention. You know, nobody else cares like the Lord does about you.
No one else is paying attention. Maybe there are flaws or problems you have that you are maybe self-conscious about and nobody else seems to notice but you do and of course the Lord knows all about that. For me, I had a little bit of a jagged this on one of my teeth and I went to the dentist and he said I’m going to fix that for you. And so this one tooth I was absolutely, said now you have a preacher’s smile.
Anyway I went to my daughter and I said did you notice anything different about my smile? No dad. How about those two right here? No dad. And I said this used to be a little bit jagged and now it’s perfect. And she said I never noticed it. You know. But in the way it is. You know, I I was aware of that and I didn’t really even ask my dentist to fix it, but he said, I’m going to do this before he’s a Christian dentist and he said, I’ll take care of that.
But it’s absolutely perfect now. And I said, look at that. And daughter didn’t even realize that I had that. He’s a little flaw that maybe nobody even noticed it, but I was aware of it. And so the Lord watches over us and he knows everything about us and we may think there’s something about us that we are sensitive about and probably nobody else even cares or pays attention. But the Lord cares and he knows and he’s aware of everything about you and he loves you.
Verse 32, whosoever therefore shall confess me before men. Him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. This is talking about witnessing. Remember verse 14, whosoever shall not receive you nor hear your what? Words. He’s sending him out to witness. He’s sending him out to preach the gospel. And he says, if you’ll confess me before my before men, I’ll confess you before my Father. Verse 33, whosoever shall deny me before men. Him will I also deny them for my Father which is in heaven.
What is it saying? And this is all about rewards. This is talking about witnessing as a believer. And so let’s say Ken here talks to somebody about the Lord today. Jesus can tell the Father, Ken witnessed today and the Father will acknowledge that and reward Ken for that one day. But if Ken did nothing worthy of the Lord’s acknowledgment, And he’ll have to deny saying anything to the Lord about kin. You know God bragged on Job when Satan came along, he said to Satan, did you happen to notice my servant Job?
Quite a guy like him a lot. Faithful. Good man. And Satan said, yeah, I’ve observed him. And the reason why he does all he does is because you have put a hedge of protection around him and you’ve blessed him. But let me take a shot at him. Let’s see. He’ll curse you to your face. And what happened? God allowed all of His family to be taken in one day, all of His possessions in one day. He lost everything. And what did Job do?
Job said, Naked came out of my mother’s womb, naked shall I return thither. The Lord has given, the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Wow. How many people could stand like Job? an hour like that when he’s lost everything, his family, his possessions, and say, naked came out of my mother’s womb, naked shall return through there. The Lord has taken or given, and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.
Truly a great believer. And obviously he’s been immortalized because of that, because of his stamp. So it’s talking about rewards. And later in the chapter you’ll see the word reward occur several times. Jesus said, thing not that I’m coming to send peace on the earth, but I thought he was. The angel said, peace on earth could wilt toward men. That would be if he was accepted, then he would bring peace on the earth. But since he was rejected, now our task is to proclaim the gospel, and the gospel divides people, and the gospel will bring division and a sword.
I’m come, verse 35, to send a man at variance against his father and against the daughter, the daughter against her mother and the daughter in law against the mother in law and the man’s foes shall be those of his own house.” Wow. And you see that happening, don’t you? Somebody gets saved in the family. They go after the other family members and try to lead them to Christ and they’ll say, I don’t want to hear this stuff anymore. They’ll probably use some more graphic language than that.
And they may not even invite you back. And they’ll say, we’re done with you. We don’t want to hear that stuff here. Just don’t come here. Don’t bring that message anymore. Verse 37 says, we have Christ first. He that loveth father or mother, more than me, is not worthy of me. He that loveth son or daughter, more than me, is not worthy of me. Talking about worthy to be a spokesperson for Christ. You have to put the Lord first in your life.
Verse 38, he that takeeth not his cross and followeth after me, as talking about discipleship, is not worthy of me. So if you’re gonna be a disciple, you’re going to have to take and talk about the cross and follow after Christ. Verse 39, he that finds that his life shall lose it. He that loses his life. For my sake shall find it. It’s talking about it the judgment seat of Christ. If you found your life and spent it for your purposes and your desires, then you will have lost it because it will count nothing at the judgment seat of Christ.
You’ll have no reward. But if in a world’s view that you’ve wasted your life or spent your life or lost your life for Christ’s sake, then at the judgmentary of Christ you’ll find that your life is given back to you in a sense that you’ll be rewarded for all that you have done for Him. Verse 40 says, He that received with you receive with me. He that received with me receive with Him that sent me. And then it says in verse 41, He that received with a witness or a prophet or a teacher.
In the name of a witness or proviter, teachers shall receive a reward. He that receive of the righteous man, a name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. Whose several shall give to one, give to drink unto one of these little ones, a cup of cold water, only in the name of a disciple, verily I send you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. So the key thought here is reward. And you might want to mark it, twice in verse 41, once in verse 42, rewards are in view.
So, we’re not talking about how to be saved in this chapter. He’s talking about sending out the twelve disciples and warning them about what they would face, persecution, maybe death. Don’t fear those that can kill the body but can’t kill the soul and recognize that the Lord loves you. And if he cares for the sparrow, he cares a lot more for you. And if he has taken time to number all the hairs on your head, wow. He’s obviously paying close attention to you, isn’t he?
I don’t know if anybody has counted all the hairs on somebody else’s head, but the Lord, he’s the only one that’s done that. Chapter 11, it came to pass when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teaching, preaching their cities. You’re listening to Bibleline, a teaching ministry that’s dedicated to delivering the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many items available from our resource center, such as Dr. Hankel-Instrom’s DVD teachings on the topics of Saved by Grace, baptism, and the righteous versus the unrighteous, in addition to many others when you call 1-800-576-3771.
Now we’re going to take a break from our teaching to listen to Dr. Lindstrom answering questions from callers and then we’ll rejoin today’s teaching. We’re going to go to the phone lines. We have Sean patiently waiting in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Sean welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Oh good morning. I feel like I’m being pushed away for what I’ve taken a stand about lately and really informing people of the truth. There seems to be a lot of resistance to what I say or it’s ignored.
I’m also a bit accused Even by my own family is getting in people’s face with all of what I’m so-called, you know, getting in people’s sake call face of being passionate about and showing fervor or strongly professing my beliefs in the public domain. I’m forced to remain silent and psychologically persecuted and untested. I’m challenged. I feel I’m forced to compromise my own standards a lot of times, or I’m forbidden to raise an issue about anything. Like if anything, I should actually be encouraged enthusiastically by my parents or other family members.
It just occurs to me for some strange reason. It really baffles me to see that they actually negate my efforts or try to keep me on the sidelines with them, I guess, and take no action. Yeah, I want to be diligent about this. I’m not here to gloss over the facts when I tell people around here in my community something. you know i don’t like feeling like i’d forced to be a capitulator well son you know yeah i understand exactly what you’re saying and and obviously i joined the club because those who will uh…
live for christ are going to find that uh… there’s gonna be opposition to that and and uh… you need to do it of course in love you need to be careful that you’re not uh… uh… forcing someone you’ll find that uh… in one of these people for the truth you’re gonna find that You’re going to have opposition. You know Jesus said beware when all men speak well of you and Sometimes your own family members are not but in the last days it says that they would not endure sound doctrine I looked up that word endure and it means they would stand up against sound doctrine and they would not put up with sound doctrine You can look up the Greek word But the word endure means to stand up against and not to put up with and that’s exactly what we see when we present the truth to some, they’re going to stand against that, they’re going to fight you, and they’re going to not put up with it, they don’t want to hear it.
So you need to be a faithful witness and just continue, but do it in love. Yeah, and well, see, not only that, but I feel like, you know, there’s a lot of time to truth being accused of hate speech. And all this, you know, like, I’m, you know, being trained with sensitivity lessons by diversity officers, I guess. I guess. You know, I’m defensively, you know, like I’m forced to, you know, defensively be like they are and shifting the subject to focus all the time.
You know, I don’t want to have my mind numbed. I really don’t. I don’t like hardwling or pandering to the wrong behavior that’s clearly long, and I don’t like making excuses for others or protecting their denial. Well, Sean, we’ll pray for you. All I can say is that you’re in the same group of Christians that have always stood for the truth, and as you present the truth in love, Ephesians tells us that we’re to speak the truth in love, but as we do, there will be those who will not like to hear it and they will try to silence you or to persecute you for that.
And Paul obviously was an example of that. He says that he was not loved and adored by everybody. And he said that if he had preached another message that included works for salvation, that the persecution would stop. But he said, because I preach that it’s by Christ alone, he said that that brings persecution and that’s of course the truth. absolutely and you know i guess this is something you’re saying that i’m going to have to expect a lot more of the rest of my life of just being persecuted like this is that what you’re saying more or less that’s right i mean i have to expect this that’s right you’re going to have a yeah it is you know it’s i don’t know i guess i can handle it well that’s what we’re talking about today the price for discipleship is that you have to be willing
no matter what to continue on to serve the lord and and you will not always be loved for doing that. In fact, Christ said that we oftentimes would be hated. He says they will hate you even as they’ve hated me and they took Christ without a cause and nailed him to the cross. You know, he had really done nothing wrong and yet they hated him and they took him to the cross and nailed him there and Christ said, can you expect less for those that will serve me?
And the answer is no, you’re gonna also experience persecution. Thank God that we live in a country where we can speak it out and not go to jail for it usually but uh… in other countries they might uh… put you in jail or cut your head off if you preach the gospel of christ you’re not allowed to do that in some muslim countries you will not perhaps come out of their life if you do i guess something that it really kind of bothers me to think that even some people among family and i’m sure they have good intentions over time i love them i know they always do good things to me personally and we all get along for the most part but i just think that when it comes to certain you know heated issues they don’t even want to it times really go they ever want to do is keep ignoring them avoiding them and
running away from it and that was a show to me you know right there really want to take a stand for things you know and i would think that okay who will mark you know who we have any more for leadership you know more we spoke to follow the model i agree with you and most people are not going to do it as i said a moment ago eighty five percent of christians are shurkers the sugar responsibilities but only fifteen percent and maybe less than that actually become the workers and that actually do the job and that’s what we need to have god bless you son will be praying for you and we certainly want you to uh…
be encouraged by us Okay, Aaron in Dade City, Florida calls in and he brings up Hebrews 6 verses 4 through 8. Do you believe this is a true Christian or someone like a Pharisee? Hebrews 6 is talking about Christians. In verse 4 it says it is impossible for those who were once enlightened. Number 2 have taken part of the heavenly gift. There are 5 things that identify this as a genuine believer. saying is if that genuine believer falls away from serving the Lord that he needs to go back and serve again, not go back and try to be saved again.
Because it says in verse 6, it’s impossible if you have gotten away from the Lord to go back and become saved again. It says it’s impossible for you to be renewed under that repentance or change of mind that causes you to be saved when you initially trust Christ. Verse 1 of Hebrews chapter 6 references that, that he wants to move on to maturity for the believer, the one who has already experienced this change of mind by which he becomes saved when he trusts Christ as his Savior.
So he’s talking about genuine believers and I hope that that answers your question, the caller from Dade City. Dan, in Tampa, Florida calls in, leaves us off our question. He says, how do you talk about the Bible to non-believers who believe the Bible is corrupt and fall under the belief that they are good enough by good works or by being good to your neighbor? The answer is you must, Dan, recognize that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword.
Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12. So whether they believe it or not, use it. I have had people tell me I don’t believe the Bible. I don’t want to hear it. Then I tell them, well, just let me explain what it says. I’ll quote scripture and go over the gospel with them, and in five minutes I’ll trust the Lord. Amazing! Because Satan wants to disarm you as a Christian by getting you to set your Bible down and not use it.
It’s just like if an intruder came into my home at night and I pick up a revolver and I say, I say stop hold up your hand and stay still I’m gonna call the cops and I’ll hold you with this gun until they come back and if the intruder says well I don’t believe that gun could hurt me and Then you say oh, okay, and you put it back in the drawer you’d be foolish wouldn’t you? But you know if the if the crook coming in your home could disarm you that easily with a few words look at what Satan does to us Christians The unbelief will say, I don’t believe the Bible’s the Word of God.
You say, okay, I’ll just put it away then I won’t use it. Forget that nonsense. The Bible is the Word of God and it’s living in powerful. And I find if people tell me they don’t believe it, so what? The Bible is living in powerful and it works, whether people say they believe it or not. And I’ve had people tell me they didn’t believe the Bible’s the Word of God and five minutes later get saved by hearing the quotes from the Bible that I give them.
So don’t let the devil disarm you. You proudly hold that Bible and share what it says, whether they say that they believe it or not. David, as Richmond, Virginia calls in with this offer a question, he says, when the Bible describes people dying and says that they gave up the ghost, is that referring to the Holy Spirit? No. The word ghost and the word spirit are the same word in the Greek language, the New Testament being written in Greek.
So it’s talking about giving up their solar spirit from the body. So it’s talking about physical death. You don’t have the power to do anything about the Holy Spirit or even choosing your moment of death unless you commit suicide. You’re going to die when an appointed time comes. And so we find that when a person gives up the ghost, they give up their spirit. That’s when they die. That’s when the body and the spirit and the soul leave the body.
as a believer you die, you’re absent from the body, present with the Lord. Aaron, in Dade City, Florida calls in and says, what does it mean to examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith as stated in 2nd Corinthians 13, 5? You have to make sure that what you believe and what you’re preaching and what you’re doing is in line with Scripture. So the way you examine yourself is you compare what you’re doing, what you believe, what you’re saying against Scripture.
And if you’re not matching up, then you’ve obviously departed from the faith. And obviously we read an example of that where churches that teach you cannot get married have departed from the scripture because the scripture doesn’t teach that. It says in Hebrews 13, five, marriage is honorable at all. If you choose to get married, that’s wonderful. But no church should be able to say to their congregants, you cannot get married. That is a doctrine of demons. And look how it’s come back to bite the Roman Catholic Church.
Look at how many pedophile priests they have as a result of the fact that they weren’t allowed to get married. I think it’s a tragedy and it’s come back to bite them. It’s a doctrine of demons. Okay, we find here Ron calls in from Jackson, Mrs. Michigan, and he says, I noticed again the occurrence of tongues only happened as a sign to the Jews. His tongues ceased after the Gentiles were reached with the Gospel. Cornelius, to date the Course Acts chapter 19 as well.
Run your right on target there. Tongues was a temporary gift. It was used while the Gospel went out from the Jews to the Gentiles as the Great Commission was carried out. It was assigned to Jews and it was to reach them with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We hope that you’re learning with us. That’s 1-800-576-3771. You know, most Christians don’t realize how serious it is to add to what Jesus Christ has finished. It’s the difference between whether a person is saved or not saved. Until you trust Jesus Christ alone, according to the Bible, you are not saved. That’s right. The Bible actually says if you add any works, then you will not have any mercy. And therefore you will not be saved. You know we’re saved by grace. The Bible is very clear about that.
In Ephesians 2, 8 it says, 4 by grace. By grace, that means mercy, unmerited favor. Are you saved? It says through faith in Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2, 8. Now grace by the Bible is really the absence of any works. Let’s go to the definition. Romans 11, 60, you have your Bible there, open it up. And mark this down, at least write down the reference to look it up later, but Romans 11, 6 says, and if by grace, then it is no more of works, otherwise grace is no more grace.
In other words, there are opposites, and you can’t mix the two. But then it goes on to say in Romans 11, 6, but if it be of works, then it’s no more grace, otherwise work is no more work. Let me say that again, if by grace, then it’s no more of works, Otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, that it’s no more grace, otherwise work is no more work, what did I just say? Sounds confusing, I know Romans 11, 6.
But in saying that grace and works are the exact opposite of one another, you cannot nix the two. You can’t put grace and works together, or you no longer have grace, or nor do you have works. And you can’t do that to be same. The Bible is actually talking about salvation in their in Romans chapter 11, verse six. and it says, and if by grace, then it’s no more of works. So you can’t add any works to grace or you won’t have any grace.
And that means you won’t have any mercy when you stand before God. You know, if you have no grace, you’re gonna wind up in hell because we’re only saved by God’s grace. We’re not saved by our works. If we got justice, every one of us would go to hell. If you’ve got what you deserve, if I got what I deserve, we’d all go to hell. Says in the book of lamentations in the Old Testament, if it were not for the mercies of God, we would all be destroyed.
That’s right, we’d all go to hell. Not one kid in our heaven, we were all disqualified for heaven because we’ve all sinned and have all come short of the glory of God. And if we paid the penalty for sin, we’d have to go to hell. You don’t want justice because that would mean you’d go to hell. You want God’s mercy and it’s only through his grace, only through his mercy that you’re saved And what is so scary that people don’t realize in Romans 11, 6, it says, if it be of works, then it is no more of grace, no more of mercy.
If you add any works to salvation, my friend, you don’t have it. Let me just say this. If I had a glass of absolutely pure distilled water, in other words, offer it to you, I’m sure you’d have no hesitation in taking that glass and drinking it down, absolutely pure crystal clear water. You would not hesitate to drink it at all. But if you were to watch me take and just put one drop of a deadly poison in that water, and I tried to hand it to you, would you accept it or refuse it?
I think you’d refuse it, wouldn’t you? Why? Because that one drop of poison would contaminate the whole glass and you no longer have a glass of pure distilled crystal water, but you would have a glass of poison. The same thing is true as if you had God’s grace offered to you. And God, by the way, offers His grace to everyone. And someone or yourself were to add one work to that grace, saying that there’s one work or one thing you had to do, guess what?
It would violate grace and it would poison it and you would no longer have grace. I believe a lot of people who think they’re going to heaven are not going to go to heaven because they have added something to what Christ has done. Christ plus anything equals nothing. Because if you add to what Christ did, then you have violated God’s plan of salvation, which is by grace, and it will equal no salvation at all. You know, in the book of Galatians, it says Christ has become of no effect unto you.
This is the verse that says, by the way, you are fallen from grace. I was in a Christian bookstore and I heard a discussion going on the other side of the aisle of books there and this one man was talking about how you could lose your salvation and he said to the other person you can fall from grace. Anyway, we are going to go back to the stations that have been on break into the second half hour Bible and so we’re going to do Bibleline in the second half hour right now.
Would you like to help Bibleline continue in your area? You can! Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. And now back to Bibleline. Welcome back from the break. Please make plans to join us and open your Bible as we also present in-depth studies covering a variety of biblical topics. Now, let’s return to our question and answer segment, and then you’ll hear more Bible teaching from Dr.
Hank Lindstrom. We have Brenda, and Brenda is in Inglewood, Florida, and Brenda, welcome to Bibleline You Are On The Air. Okay. How are you, Dr. Lindstrom? Good, Brenda. I have a question for you. If a couple are married and I am a very devout Christian and I am trying to work my way into a point where I can become a disciple of Christ and I am currently now taking a Christian counseling course where when I graduate in December I will have international accreditation with the Christian Bible Association.
ICCC, I have something like this. I can’t think of the letters right now. But anyway, the more I do, and I gave up TV, and I gave up newspapers, and he thought, there’s a lot of strife in our homeland. I believe strife brings in demonic influences, and I believe that he brings it against me the stronger I get. It seems like things happen to try to be a stumbling block to me. So how do you handle? I pray to God to give me the answer of what to do.
to take any short path like some people encouraged me to force him, to force him. I can’t do that. I have to wait on God’s answer. So how do you get to develop the tolerance, talk about the Bible to turn the other cheek? First of all, is your husband’s name? He told me he was, but I know I can’t judge. I have a very hard time believing it. Well then there’s a good chance maybe he has it. That’s really where I think you need to probably focus some of your effort.
You know, 1 Corinthians 2 14 tells us the natural man. That’s the man who’s not saved. The person who’s not born again, the person who’s not a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is his only means of salvation. It says, cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God. They are foolish as to him. Neither can he know them because they’re spiritually discerned. And obviously, that’s going to be the way he will approach everything you’re doing. It’s foolishness, it’s a waste of time.
And because of those things, I’m getting too involved in those things. Right, right. And so I think maybe one of the things you need to pray for is your husband’s salvation. And we have this CD that we go out of here by the thousands and we get such good reports of a person who would actually sit and listen to that CD. There’s a good chance to get saved. I’d like to send you one and if you could talk him in the listening to that with you I’d like to try.
Yes, that would be I think the first step and of course, you know, obviously on the other end The Lord can give you the strength to be able to stand for him in the spite of the fact that you’re Having conflict, but I think maybe that conflict could be avoided if we get him saved Right. I believe you. I’m just going to turn you over to my operators and they’ll get your address and we’ll send you that CD and I’d like to hear the results.
I hope it works out well for you. I’m praying that it will. Thank you so much. Okay. And thank you Brenda. We’ll get our operators to pick up that call and talk to you. Have you trusted Christ as your savior? There’s only one way to be saved. Only one way to go to heaven and that is Jesus himself. Jesus said in John 14, 6, I am the way. I I am the truth, I am the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me.
No man, no woman, no child. No one can come to the Father except by Jesus Christ. If you reject Christ, my friend, you have no chance because there’s no other way. There’s no other way. Peter said it so clearly in Acts 4, 12. He said, neither is there salvation in any other. For there is none other name, under heaven give it among men whereby we must be safe. Most churches teach works for salvation. It’s sometimes very subtle, but you have to do something to be saved according to most churches when the Bible says you can do nothing!
It’s not of yourself! That our best righteous deeds are filthy rags inside of God, Isaiah 64, 6. And you have nothing to offer God. I have nothing to offer God. You don’t either. I don’t care who you are. I don’t care where you attend, or what you do. You don’t have a thing to offer God. The Bible says you’re best righteous, deeds or filthy rags in the sight of God. You have to come just as you are. You have to simply recognize your need that you’re lost and headed for hell and you need a Savior.
Jesus Christ is that one. And when you come to Him by faith, trusting that He made the full payment for your sin was buried and rose again from the dead, God saved you. So most important decision you’ll ever make in your life. I hope you’ve made that decision to trust Christ and Savior. You could do it right now. You could whisper a prayer. You could say something like as follows, I got on the sinner. Admit it, we all are.
But right now, what I just heard made a lot of sense. And I trust Jesus Christ right now, as the one who died and paid for my sins. In full on the cross by his death and shed blood was buried and rose again from the dead and I trust Jesus Christ right now to save me, to give me the gift of eternal life. And the moment you do that, God saves you. We’re now going to go to Ken in St.
Petersburg. Ken, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Good morning, Dr. Hank. I was just kind of calling for a movie that that lady did to I want to be a disciple and have no problem with their husband. But over the years I kind of find that we can, the scripture points out that when he lifts us up and we want to go out and be a disciple or be a leader in some form or fashion that we’re not ready in Christ to be.
It takes years, as you know, to rightly divide things and bad advice about our husband’s descriptor. To me that I don’t hear a lot of marriage counselors on radio ever say, is you’re to win your spouse or you’re a win your unruly husband with your chase behavior. And that doesn’t sell books. And you might be able to, in a point of direction, but a problem that we generally have in Genesis God already said that a woman will want to rule over the husband and If they spend their time loving their husband Into the kingdom of God and honoring him He would probably soften his heart.
So when we look at an unruly husband probably in the day that was written It would probably be a bad day for a woman compared to the United States of America what we consider I think you’re probably right. Well, that’s very good advice. Ken, that’s what I was trying to tell her that her husband is probably unsaved and he needs to be one to Christ. I think that’s a first step. And if he is saved, obviously he needs to get closer to the Lord and be one over.
So, obviously it’s very difficult if two people are not pulling in the same direction. It makes it very difficult and that’s what she’s experiencing. He’s pulling in another direction than she and you got some real good advice. I can’t I agree with you You know a lot of times the women are leading She’s trying to lead him to the Bible lead lead lead lead rather than you know win him in her chase or you know that’s a major point that You know naturally the male may not feel honored You know because you’re spending more time doing these other things when is a baby wants to jump out there.
I’ve got grandchildren and I got a 12 year old. He’s ready to drive the car. There’s no problem there except where he looks one way when the car is coming from another direction. He’s not old enough and there’s a reason why he’s not old enough. But he’s ready to jump right out there and do it all. Just stay to Florida doesn’t think he’s qualified. And everybody, we got baby Christians to adolescent Christians and they all have these little behavior problems.
Or as soon as we go to some of these churches they start saying, well, your husband’s the obstacle. That’s the mining. We started looking at him as the problem. In reality, we’re trying to solve our own conflict problem by wanting to be a counselor so somehow we get free advice to unwind our own personal problems. So, the ability is to love and honor your husband whether he saved or unfayed. And forget the counseling course. Ken, thank you so much.
Okay, you have a good one. All right. Bye-bye. Ken is right. Certainly that is a priority issue there. Let’s go to A. to Anthony and Sarasota. Anthony, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Yes, good morning. God bless you, Dr. Ninshump. My question is regarding the resurrection within the gospel of John, Luke, Mark, and Matthew. I just was curious a little bit on how the testimonies were just a little bit different within the four. And on the book of John it talks about that Mary has two angels.
And another says only one, but they’re not contradictory. They’re simply supplementary. So when you read all four accounts and you look at the total picture, you get the full picture of what was taking place there. You know, I might have lunch with five or six people, and when I converse with you, I might say that I had lunch with John, say. And so you might assume that there was nobody else but you or John and myself in our lunch conversation, whereas there were five other people present at the lunch.
I may not mention them. Yet to someone else, I might share that, hey, I had this lunch with these six fellows, and we had a wonderful time of fellowship, and might mention that John was also present. So when you get the total picture, you have six people plus myself at lunch, and yes, John was present, but in the conversation I would have you with you about that lunch, I may have only mentioned John, and you may not have learned about the others that were there.
So I think that’s where the gospels are. Go as far as Mary’s testimony to the disciples, to the disciples, and then they shared it amongst one another. I mean, because again, the book of Matthew, it includes the guards report. We’re in the other gospel. They’re done. Well, I think that you have each gospel. They’re four gospels. Each one has a different purpose. Each one presents a different point of Christ. Matthew is presented as a king. And obviously here, his crime, according to the Bible, was, at least Rome was concerned about.
king and therefore that was treason. And so he was executed for treason really for claiming to be a king when Caesar alone was king and to be worshipped. And so that was not a part of Mark’s Gospel because Mark is presenting Christ as a servant and it doesn’t matter about those things. And in Luke he’s just a man and that doesn’t matter. And then in John’s Gospel he’s God so it doesn’t matter either. So each Gospel has a unique portrait of Christ And when you begin to see that, John presents him as God, Mark presents him as a servant, Luke presents him as a man, and Matthew presents him as a king.
You begin to look and you’ll see some things are in and some things are out that are either significant or not significant to that particular point of Christ. So I believe that’s the answer. Thank you very much, Dr. Lynch. We have a blessed day. You’re welcome, Anthony. Thank you very much. And there’s no contradictions, the Bible supplements, and we read them all to get the total picture. That concludes today’s question and answer segment. There’s no other topic that is more important to us than the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and it was Dr.
Hankelyn Strim’s mission to spread the Gospel. Through your support for Bibleline, you too can help to spread the Gospel of Christ throughout the world and to reach others with the message of salvation through Jesus. our website at BibleLineMinistries.org for copies of any of our resources such as Dr. Lynchton’s audio CDs on the books of Matthew or Genesis, plus many others. Now join us as we return to today’s teaching series. Chapter 11. It came to pass when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples into part of the sense of teaching and preaching their cities.
And John had heard in prison the works of Christ. He sent two of his disciples. This is a story that’s always fascinated me because here it looked like the ministry John the Baptist had come crashing down. He had multitudes that followed him and listened to him preach. And now he’s in prison. His ministry is pretty much over. We know shortly he’ll be killed, beheaded. So he’s having here doubts. And what is interesting is that the Bible reveals the doubts of the Tyros.
The flaws of its heroes, the sins of its heroes. And here John had doubts and he sent two disciples to Jesus and said unto Jesus, aren’t thou he that should come or do we look for another? It’s almost that, isn’t it? Wow. John the Baptist who introduced Christ and said, behold the Lamb of God which taken away the sin of the world. This one that I’m not even worthy to be in his presence. Certainly, I need to be baptized of him, not have me baptized him and so on.
And so here, are we to look for another? Are you the one? Wow. Can you believe John the Baptist is coming to that point in his life? But believers do have doubts. And is that normal? Yes. And it’s wrong to stay in your doubts, but here he had his doubts. And he sent his disciples to find out. And so Jesus answered and said unto these disciples that were sent from the prison to asking these questions, it says, go and show John again those things which you do here in C.
Verse 5, the blind receive their sight. Please tell John that the blind are seeing now. The lame walk. Would you make sure you tell John that there are lame people that are walking now that could walk before? The lepers are cleansed. Would you tell John when you go back that there are lepers that now have no more signs of leprosy? The deaf here, please tell John that there are deaf people that now hear because I’ve healed them. The dead are raised up.
Don’t forget to tell John that we’ve raised the dead. Make sure John hears that. And the poor have the gospel preached to them. Wow, those were all credentials of the Messiah. And so Jesus answered it in this way. He says, tell John what you see. The blind are seeing. The lame are walking. Make sure you tell John that. The lepers are cleansed. the deaf here, the dead are raised up. Make sure you tell John that these things are happening out here.
Obviously, he’s clearly the Messiah. And the Lord comforts John in his period of doubt. Have you ever been down and doubted and said, is this all really true? Is the Bible really true? Am I wasting my time? Is this really something I ought to engage my life in doing, telling people about Christ or reading my Bible and so on. Well John here in this situation in prison, obviously now looking at just four walls and his life in jeopardy and soon his head will be taken and his doubts.
Art thou, he that should come or do we look for another? And Jesus said, tell John the blind received their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf here, the dead are raised up and the gospel is being preached to the poor. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. That’s in Christ. So blessed are happy as the one who is not offended in Christ, who will stand and line up with Jesus. And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, what did you go out into the wilderness to see?
A reed shaken with the wind? What went you out into the wilderness to see? a man clothed in soft raiment. He holds those that wear soft raiment are in King’s houses. What did you go out to see? A prophet? Jesus said, yea, I say unto you more than a prophet. This was an unusual man. And a lot of people went out looking for something they didn’t see. And they missed the message of John the Baptist because he was expecting something else.
That oftentimes will happen when somebody hears a Christian witness. And they’ll think think that they should have seen something different than they saw. And you’ll see that here. But Jesus here, commending John the Baptist, said in verse 10, for this is He of whom it is written in Isaiah chapter 40, you see it, behold I send my messenger before my face, which will prepare the way before thee. Isaiah had talked about John the Baptist and he was the fulfillment of that wonderful prophecy in Isaiah 40.
Verse 11, Jesus says, very I say unto you that among them that are born of women, they are at not risen a greater than John the Baptist. Wow, that puts him up on a high level, doesn’t it? Notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. So there is a day coming when those are in the kingdom will be considered greater than John the Baptist. Verse 12, and from the days of John the Baptist, until now the kingdom of heaven suffered violence and the violence take it by force.
You know what they wanted Christ to do was to lead an army against Rome. And to deliver them from the Roman oppression. Obviously it wasn’t going to take place that way, it wasn’t. It says for all the prophets and the law, prophets died up until John. He was the last of the Old Testament prophets. And if you’ll receive it, the King or the Kingdom, then this would be Elijah that which was for to come. Elijah was to come back before Christ would return, but because God foreknew that he would be rejected.
He sent John the Baptist. had Christ been accepted 2000 years ago, he would have been a fulfillment of the prophecies about Elijah’s coming. But Elijah is still coming, and will come after the rapture during the tribulation period. It says in verse 15, he that hath ears to hear, let him hear. But where unto shall I like in this generation? It’s like in the children sitting in the markets and calling into their friends and saying, we have piped unto you, but you have not danced.
We have mourned unto you and you’ve not lamented.” It’s interesting. They didn’t play the role that the children were crying out for them to play. John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said he has a demon. He didn’t drink. He ate a very simple meal in the desert. And then the son of man came eating and drinking. And they said, well, he’s a man who’s gluttonous, and he’s a wine-bever. He’s a friend of publicans or tax collectors and sinners.
Wow, you couldn’t win, could you? They were opposite in their ministry, and the people were saying, you’re not what I expected you to be. You’re not what I was looking for. And Christ is saying, you’re just like children. We have piped under you and you’ve not danced. You didn’t dance our dance. And really a preacher or a witness for Christ, all of us have to be careful. We don’t dance what the world wants us to dance because if we dance with the world, We’re not going to be an effective witness for Christ.
We have to stand tall with God’s word and proclaim it as it is without apology and not everybody’s going to like that. And so they didn’t like John. They didn’t like Jesus, but their ministries were opposite. John came either eating or drinking and he said he has a demon. Jesus came eating and drinking and he said he’s a gluttonous man and he’s a wine bae burr and he’s a friend of tax collectors and sinners and it says in the end of verse 19, But wisdom is justified over children.
Wisdom is a personification found in Christ, and that Christ is justified in us who are His children by faith. We recognize He is the Lord, He is God, He is the Savior, He is the Messiah, and we fully recognize who He is and what He accomplished. And we realize that He is the Savior. But those that don’t have wisdom, they don’t have Christ, they don’t see it. Who was Christ? Ask that question on the street. the Christianity, good teacher, good guy, but that’s about all.
They don’t recognize who he is, but we who have accepted him realize, wow, he’s the God of the universe. He’s the God who gave his life and the person of Christ to die for our sins. Chapter 12 verse 1, At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn and his disciples were hungry and began to pluck ears of corn and to eat. Matthew 12-2, when the Pharisees saw it, they said in him, behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day.
But he said unto them, have you not read what David said when he was hungered and they that were with him, how did he entered into the house of God? That was the temple and did eat the showbread which is not lawful for him to eat, needed for them that were with him but only for the priest. Or have you not read in the law how on the Sabbath days the priest in the temple profane the Sabbath and are blameless.
They go about their work and they are not violating the Sabbath. But I say unto you in verse 6 that in this place is one greater than the temple. I love that phrase. Be sure to tune in to another edition of Bibleline from Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida. I was in a Christian bookstore and I heard a discussion going on the other side of the aisle of books there and this one man was talking about how you could lose your salvation and he said to the other person, you can fall from grace. I couldn’t stand it.
I had to walk around. I just kind of butted my way right into the conversation. I said, do you know where that says that in the Bible that you can fall from grace? Well, neither one of them knew. And I said, why don’t we pick a Bible off the shelf here and let me share with you where it’s at. That verse you are falling from grace is not talking to a safe person. It’s talking to a lost person. It says in Galatians 5, 4, Christ is become of no effect unto you.
And then it defines to whom it is speaking. It says whosoever of you are justified by the law or by works. It says you are fallen from grace. But then it’s interesting in the very next verse in Galatians chapter 5 is where we are. It tells us, and it switches gears here, and it talks now to Christians, and it says in verse 5 here, for we, through the Spirit, wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. If you’ll notice Galatians 5, 4, it says, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, and in verse 5 it says, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we.
This is called rightly divided in the word of truth. Verse 4 is talking to the laws. It says, Christ has become of no effect unto you. And then it defines who the you is. It says, whosoever of you are justified by the law, by works, you are the ones that are followed from grace. Verse 5, though, it switches now as the writer of Galatians, which is the apostle Paul includes himself, but we, through the Spirit, wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
The word hope, by the way, there means an expectation that you’re certain is going to take place that you excitedly anticipate. The English word hope, I’m afraid, sometimes means doubtful. And you say, I hope that it doesn’t rain today, or I hope my car has enough gas in it to get me to the gas station. Well, those are all wrong use of the word hope as the biblical word means something sure, something expected, something anticipated, something that you’re looking forward to.
And Galatians 5, 4 is not talking about a saved person being lost. Once you’re saved, my friend, you’re saved forever. You cannot be lost. But the sad thing is a lot of people who think they’re saved are not saved because they have fallen from grace in the sense that God has offered grace mercy to them. It says in Ephesians 2 8, by grace are you saved through faith in Jesus Christ? If you say, no, I’ve got to do this.
I’ve got to do that. You had one work to grace. You no longer have grace. And so Christ will count nothing for you. And you are fallen from grace. But the believer waits for the righteousness which is by faith. And there’s quite a difference. I am pleading for souls because a lot of people are mixed up and they are trusting in Jesus plus. Christ plus baptism means you’re not saved. If you’re trusting in water baptism to get you to heaven my friend, you’re not going to make heaven.
Christ plus church membership means you’re not going to be saved. If you’re trusting in that, surely you ought to be a member of a church and you truly ought to be water baptized after you’re saved. But if you’re trusting in that, to get you to heaven, my friend, you will not be saved. And we could go on and the list could be dozens of things that people are trusting in in addition to faith in Christ. I hope you’ve trusted Christ in Christ alone.
Then yes, out of gratitude, out of thankfulness, live for Him every day of your life, but you You don’t get saved when you trust in your works plus Christ. You have to trust Christ alone. It’s by faith alone in Christ alone that you’re safe. In any case, we’ve got to run, but we’ll be back tomorrow. So keep looking up. Jesus is coming. We will be soon. God bless and have a great day. We’ll see you tomorrow, here on Bible Life.
