I’m going to talk a little bit about repentance. You hear that phrase, repent of sin. Repent of sin. I heard it so often as a young boy. This often quoted phrase, repent of sin. Guess what? He said, does not even occur in the Bible. Quote, report, repent of sin, unquote. That phrase does not occur once. That’s right, not even once. Are you believing that? I was shocked to find that out because I heard it quoted so often, I figured this is on every page.
I thought, this is the major theme of the Bible. But it wasn’t even in the Bible one time. Most people are quite shocked to find out that it does not appear in the scripture Nowhere does the scripture use the phrase, we pen of sin to be saved. Are you believing that? How many preachers say in order to be saved after you pen of your sin? That’s not even in your Bible. Scripture does say in Acts 2021, repentance toward God, a change of mind toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
You see, repentance is the translation of the Greek word metanoia. The literal meaning of metanoia is a change of mind. Meta means change. Noia means mind. So therefore metanoia means a change of mind. Before learning about metanoia, I’m sure that you’re already familiar with the Greek word with the prefix metanoia. The word is metamorphosis. Metamins change, morphosis means form or structure. The word metamorphosis is used to describe the change a caterpillar goes through to become a beautiful butterfly. I’m sure that you’ve studied about this change of form.
Repentance therefore, metanoia change is meta and noia is mine, simply means a change of mine. The misuse of the word repentance has caused untold confusion among believers and unbelievers alike. Satan, who is the author of Confusion, 1 Corinthians 14-33, has delighted in the misuse of this word repentance. One of the counterfeit Satan is using today is the misuse of the word repentance to insist upon repentance, that in any sense includes a demand for a change of conduct. Either toward God or man is to add an element of works or a human effort to faith.
Let me define some terms here. Penance is a word that means payment for sin. Penance is sorrow for sin. Works and something of self is turning from sin. But repentance, the Greek word metanoia, means a change of mind. Let me say this, repentance in salvation means a change of mind from any idea of religion that man might have and accepting God’s way of salvation. The fact that Jesus Christ paid our sin debt in full. Man’s great need is to understand God’s way of salvation and to accept his sacrifice through Jesus Christ.
For God so loved the world, John 3.16 says that he gave his only begotten son that he used to ever what? Believeth in him. He should not perish, but have everlasting life. His repentance left out of John 3.16, of course not. In order to believe on Christ, to trust him is your Savior, you must change your mind. True belief includes and implies the repentance that the Bible teaches. A change of mind occurs when you trust Jesus as Savior. Well, why do we have this problem to begin with?
Well, the problem has come about because metanoi should have never been translated into the English word repent. Repent the English word does not mean the same thing as metanoi of the Greek word. Perhaps what the translators should have done is what we call a transliteration of the Greek word. For example, the translators of the King James Bible took the Greek word Baptizo, B-A-P-I-T-Z-O, dropped the O, replaced the O with an E, and they brought the new word Baptizo, not Baptizo, but Baptizo into the English language.
This is called a transliteration. They should have done this with metanoia. And the problem would have been eliminated. Can you imagine preachers across the world saying, Metanoia! Metanoia! Metanoia! To the congregations. Well, at least the correct meaning would be come known because people would look up the Greek word metanoia, and they would obviously say change your mind. Obviously. Anybody who’s unsafe has to change their mind in order to become saved and trust in Jesus as their Savior. Understanding the doctrine may relieve some of the contagion that you or your friends may have had concerning repentance.
Here’s a great way to get a handle on this. Just remember this. A person may repent without believing, but a person cannot believe without repenting. Let me say that again. You can repent without believing, but you cannot believe without repenting. You say, what did you just say? Well, let me explain. You can repent without believing. You can change your mind about God, about salvation, about anything. There is a problem here. And yet, not believe. You have not trust Christ as your Savior.
But you cannot believe or trust Christ as your Savior without having changed your mind in a process. you trust Christ, you are changing your mind about it, whatever you were previously trusting in to now trusting Christ as your Savior. So if you understand that phrase, you’ve got repentance down. You can repent without believing, but you cannot believe without repenting. Did you get it? Write it down. You can repent without believing, but you cannot believe without repenting. In other words, you can repent, you can change your mind about God, about salvation, about Christ about any number of things and never trust Christ as your Savior.
But you cannot trust Christ without having changed your mind in the process. I knew nothing about repentance when I got saved. I heard the gospel that I had to trust Christ as my Savior and as I reflect back I really changed my mind about several things. That night that I trusted Christ as my Savior. You know, I had never heard in my church that Jesus Christ is God who came and took on human flesh. And that night I saw in the scripture was pointed out to me that Jesus was God who came and took on human flesh.
And you know in my mind I said that makes perfect sense. That makes perfect sense. No wonder Jesus can do what others could not do. No wonder Jesus could forgive my sin. No wonder he could walk in the water. I wonder he could multiply the loaves and the fishes. It made real good sense. I said I wonder why I was never told that before, but I changed my mind about who Jesus is and recognized that he was God who took on flesh.
I was also taught all my life that I had to work my way to heaven, that one day my works would be put on a scale and it would be determined whether I made heaven or not based upon whether I had more good works than bad works. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Bible says in Ephesians 2, 9, Salvation is not of works, not of works, unless any man should boast. I changed my mind about that. I realized my church was wrong in teaching works or Salvation when the Bible said it was not of works and so on and so on.
So yes indeed I did repent but I didn’t realize that that’s what repent meant because I had the wrong definition turned from sin, hammered at me all my younger life. And guess what, repentance is necessary for salvation, but keep in mind that it is a change of mind. I happen to use the Schofield Reference Bible. Came out in 1909 in the first edition, that’s 100 years ago. And guess what? It clearly states that repentance is a translation of a Greek word metanoi, it means a change of mind.
And guess what? The last phrase says, saving faith includes and implies that change of mind, which is called repentance. Saving faith includes that. In other words, when you believe you do repent, it’s impossible to believe or trust Christ without repenting. One of the interesting things is that in the Old Testament, the word repent in English occurs 43 times and guess what? 37 of those 43 times it is Godly repents, not man. Now if you define repent as turning from sin, which so many people do, then you’ve got a problem, big time.
You’ve got a holy God, a righteous God, he’s not capable of sinning. Turning from his sin a lot of place. If you do the math, you divide 37 by 43, 86% of the time it’s God who does the repenting. Can you imagine God turning from sin of course not. He cannot sin. He’s not capable of sitting. And yet it is God who repents 37 out of 43 times, six times only man repents in the Old Testament. And yet how many times you hear that word to find the turn from sin and you’ve got a big theological problem to deal with Good luck.
You’ve got a holy sinless God, turning from his sin left and right throughout the whole Old Testament. Obviously, this should point out that people have not done their homework and they’ve gotten things backwards that are confused. And I’m not the only one that teaches it correctly. My goodness, I just wanted to point out there the Scofield Bible which I used came out a hundred years ago and made it very clear that the Greek word. But the problem is that people are not going to the Greek dictionary.
They’re going to their English dictionary and of course the English word repent is not the same meaning as the word in the New Testament Greek. I’m Dr. Englundschroom. This is Bibleline. It’s great to be with you today. It’s Tuesday. We have our classes tonight. First Peter, if you’re in driving distance, I sure want you to come and be in the class with me. We’ll start right about 7.15. We’ll be done about 9.15. I hope you’ll be in the class tonight.
It’s not too late. You can make up what you missed last week by getting the CDs there available. We’ll have them ready for you tonight. Now we’re going to go to the phone lines. We have Lou in Tampa, Florida and Lou, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Well, good morning, Dr. Hank. This is Lou from Tampa. How are you? Good, Lou. Thank you. Let’s talk to you about being in the field. Want to be taken and want to be left, and then they do that.
Want to be taken and want to be left. All right. Because they’re not careful students of the Bible. Usually people teach that that is the rapture and it’s not. If you read Matthew 24, you’ll read in verse 40 and verse 41 there would be two in the field the one will be taken the other left. That’s not the Rapture This is the second coming and it’s the opposite of the Rapture because the one’s taken is taken in judgment and killed and The one that’s left is left to live in the thousand-year millennial kingdom of Christ It’s very clear in the context this happens right after the tribulation period verse 29 says immediately after the tribulation of those days days.
And so this is in the context after the tribulation. But if you read verse 39, it’s talking about it will be again as it was in the days of Noah, and it says in verse 39 that those that were living in Noah’s day were eating and drinking and marrying and giving and marriage and so on, right up until the day of the flood, and they knew not that the flood was coming, and the flood came and took them, took them, took them, Took them what group did it take it took them unbelievers and drowned them Unless you could tread water for over a year you were in serious trouble You weren’t gonna make it obviously they didn’t that whole world died except for those that were in the ark two of every kind of animal and Of course eight human beings Noah is wife his three sons and her wives were the only survivors
But it says in verse 40, it will be as it was then in the days of Noah, and it says to be in the field the one will be taken, that one is taken in the same way the flood took the unbelievers in Noah’s day, and they were killed, and the one that is left will live into the millennium. Verse 41 the same way, two women will be grinding at the mill, but one will be taken. I have taken the word taken in verse 40 and 41 circled them, drawn a line back to the word took in verse 39 because if you tie the dots together we find the ones that are taken, are taken in judgment and slain and they will perish and go to hell.
But the believers who are left behind will live into the Millennial Kingdom in our mortal bodies and be the actual subjects of the tribulation period. Blue I sure hope that helps and thank you for that call but people aren’t careful students of the Bible. says in 2 Timothy 2 15 study to show myself a proof that a God has a workman, a workman, a workman that needs us not to be ashamed, rightly dividing or setting the truth of God’s word in right order.
We’re now going to Old Town, Florida and we have Pat on the line Pat. Welcome to Bible in Your Honor. Yes. Hi. I have a question about Matthew 25 19 through 29 about the parable of the the talents or a form of money, but is it referring to stewardship and why did the unpopitable servant go to? Why does it say where in crossable servant down the that I reap where I so not and gather where I have not strud.
Exactly does it all… It’s talking about the Kingdom of Heaven, which is about the Millennium, and it’s really referring to the seven years that preceded it. Here you have three different servants mentioned here, and the first two are saved. As you’ll notice in verse 21, he says, Well done, Thou good and faithful servant. Nobody can be called good unless they have trusted Christ as Savior. It says in Romans 3-12, There is none to do with good, No, not one.
So nobody can be declared good except the goodness or righteousness of God being puted to their account by faith when they trust Christ as Savior. Every believer is considered righteous or good based upon not their works or deeds but upon what Jesus did for us at the cross. And also that’s the reason of course this is why verse 21 and 23 we have these two entering heaven because they are considered good and that is because of their faith in Christ.
But they are also considered faithful. So the inner end of the joy of the Lord because they, because they are faithful, will be rewarded with ruling power during the Millennial Kingdom. I will make the rule over many things because you have been faithful over a few things. But because you are a believer, because you have been made good in God’s sight based upon Christ’s death, you will be able to enter in. Then we have the last guy down in verse 26 and notice he’s called wicked.
Anybody in the Bible that’s declared to be wicked is an unbeliever because even though they might be moral or righteous, they might be going to church, they might be a religious person. If they have not trusted Christ, their righteousness is wickedness because we’ve all sinned and come short of the glory of God. So this guy is lost. And not only is he lost, but he’s lawful. But not only does he get cast in hell because he’s never trusted Christ, but he is assigned a degree of punishment in hell based upon his wickedness.
But his lack of works, because works will determine the degree of punishment in hell for the lost, but it will determine the degree of reward in heaven for the saved. But the difference between heaven and hell is belief or unbelief, and obviously the last guy was never a believer, never saved, and that’s why he’s cast out. Let me give you one more point here. John 637, simple verse, hymn that cometh to me, Jesus said, I will in no wise cast out.
That means for no reason would Christ ever cast out anyone that has genuinely come to Him. So obviously if you interpret a difficult passage like this in Matthew 25 is, he would never cast this guy out if he were saved. So the last guy is clearly unsaved and we find that the context here demands that interpretation. I sure hope that helps. Pat, thank you for calling in today to Bible in. That was Pat and we’re now going to go to Jerry in Plant City and Jerry, welcome to Bible in your own ear.
When a believer is in the process, do you believe that they can’t be supernatural? And as anything ever revealed to them, that’s supposed to be given to us, and I’ll hang up, listen to the answer. I appreciate it. Okay, Jerry, I don’t believe so. What we have is the scriptures and the scriptures give us all that we really need to know. And if you’re looking for visions or for messages or from angels, I don’t really bind it at all.
Let me just take a moment here to say goodbye to our Miami audience because we have to say goodbye because you go off the air a little bit before other stations, but it’s so good to be down there in Miami again with you guys and thank you for listening and by the way we could use your help pray for us and also help us financially would you because we have to pay for that time and we’d like to make sure that we are able to keep on the air down in South Florida.
God bless you all. Join us again tomorrow. Well back to Jerry. I592 wouldn’t expect to find any revelations and made books about life after death experiences or Christians going to hell or to go to heaven and come594 back and tell the story. Usually you’ll find their messages severely flawed usually. That’s Satan’s way of obviously bringing more confusion to the table. You need to go to the Bible to find out what’s really going to take place and the Bible is quite plain about believers are absent from the body, present with the Lord, they don’t come back.
And unbelievers are absent from the body, present in Hades and they went up ultimately and hell and they’re not coming back and there’s no special messages for any of these outside of the Word of God prior to their death. Thank you Jerry, I hope that helps a little bit but I don’t buy any of those stories. I believe they’re false. We have Aaron in Clearwater and Aaron, welcome to Bibleline your on the air. Yes, I just had a question.
Dr. Hank was talking about 37 times. I think he said that in the Old Testament that God is the one who is repenting and in numbers 2319 it says that God does not repent. Okay, plus or minus. I mean, he does repent or doesn’t repent, but applies to God, not the man. And in that case, It’s really saying that there’s the appearance of repentance with God, but he does not really repent. So, like in the case of Nineveh, when Jonah went there and preached, when the people changed their mind, it says that God, of course, changed his mind, did not destroy the city.
He was going to destroy Nineveh. That was the message. But they responded to Jonah’s message, and obviously God didn’t destroy it. We’re going to have to take our break now and we’ll come back into a second and a half hour. In the meantime, I hope you’ll give us a call here and we hope to be back in just a minute and do a second and a half hour and I hope you’ll be staying with us if you can’t get on your station.
Catch us on the internet right now for the flow. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. I’m Dr. Englund. It’s fun to be with you here today on Bibleline. Thank you for tuning in. I hope you’ll take advantage of our website. We have a year’s worth of worship services sitting there for you to watch and listen to and enjoy. And if you go there at 11 o’clock on Sunday morning and click on the camera on the homepage, you’ll be connected to the live service. Isn’t that exciting? In this past weekend, we had people from Australia, Europe and Canada and all around watching our service live. We have a lot of military guys tell us that they’re listening and watching that worship service on Sunday mornings as many of them gather around a laptop and watch it.
It’s so exciting and I hope that you will obviously take advantage of that as well. If you want to go to Israel with me, tomorrow will be the last day that the airlines will still hold the tickets for me for my group. So if you want to go, you need to call me right away or call the office here and we’ll try to get you going and you put down some money and you can reserve that seat and then we can work out all the details.

A lot of people use them to facilitate Bible studies for their personal study in their cars when they go back and forth to work and on vacations to play when on a long trip.
Lots of different uses, but I think you’ll learn a lot. And I hope that you’ll benefit greatly by getting some of those. Plus we have the books and bibles and commentaries in that Scofield Bible we have all right there in our Resource Center. Again, thanks for tuning in to Bibleline. We’re listening and supporting. If you could help us, we’d appreciate it. You could give a gift by credit card over the phone, would you call? And either do that by credit card or call and ask for an envelope to be sent with or just on it.
You can mail your gift in to Bibleline. We’re about ready to go back now to join the stations that have been on break. We’re going to do the second half hour Bibleline right now, so stay tuned right here. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lynch from a question? You can just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom.

It’ll be trip number 15 for me but tomorrow will be the last day that you could secure your seat on the flight with us because we’re getting that close to the airlines now. Not going to reserve the seats any longer beyond tomorrow. So last chance, last call for you to get in and I can get you in now, and you can go and reserve that seat and then we can work out the details.
But plan that. Go with me if you can. We’ll have a super time. The weather will be great until the hotel will be marvelous. And we’re going to see Calvary in the Tomb of Christ and the baptized in the the Jordan River and we’re going to just see Israel from one end of the other. Plan to join me and call us here and I’ll be glad to answer any questions you have or if you are fearful of all or I’ll be able to talk to you about how smooth the trip this will be, you’ll have a super time.
We’re going to go back to the phone lines now and we have people waiting online. We have Michelle and she’s in Margot, Florida and Michelle, welcome to by the way you’re on there yes good morning customer hang on I was wondering if it’s a crazy question maybe I just somehow I’ve missed what what does the Muslim problem that we’re having with the with the Iraq and what does that have to do how does it fit into prophecy well does it I don’t know it was here does in Matthew 24 Jesus said that Israel would be hated above all nations.
And obviously Muslim, the Quran teaches hatred for the Jew. And for those that are not Muslims, that would mean us too, that are Gentiles that are not Muslim, we’re to be killed according to the Quran. And so obviously it’s created this great hatred. And a great book that really does explain this is by Hel Lindsey. I think it’s one of its better books. It’s called Everlasting Hatred. The title comes right out of the Bible where it talks about the hatred that began with Ishmael and Isaac way back in Genesis and can be traced down to the present conflict right today.
Wow. And so it’s a major part of prophecy and it tells you in the Prophet Micah for example, chapter 4, that the neighbors of Israel would hate her and want Jerusalem for themselves and they wouldn’t know what the Bible had to say because they’re not reading the Bible and they’re not aware of God’s counsel and not aware that God will come back and judge them and these people will actually die at the end of the tribulation period because they’re without Christ and all the land that they have possessed from the Euphrates River down to the Nile will belong to Israel as obviously these people will all be gone.
They’ll all be killed at the second coming unless in the meantime they come to know Christ as our Savior but very few do escape from that terrible religion that’s a religion of hate. So Michelle I hope that helps a little bit. It helps a lot. I just I didn’t know specifically what you know I knew of what you just said. I just that it’s kind of like it didn’t. It’s like it. not and I just didn’t understand. But that book sounds very interesting.
You can call in order that we can chip it right out to you. It is really an eye opener. It’s called Everlasting Hatred by Helenzi. Okay. Thank you so much for calling in. Really, this is a time that the Bible has a prophesied of and we’re right in the middle of it. We’re now going to go to Armando in St. Petersburg in Armando. Welcome to Bibleline. You’re on here. Good morning, Dr. Polichl. Good morning. Man, I wish I could go with you to Israel.
I wish you could too. It would be great. I would give you a visit. I have a lot of questions. I bet you would. Good, good. I was reading, well, I think Exodus, Exodus 2011. I know your position on the age of the Earth is, that it’s over 6,000 years. But I got a question on that verse. If you can explain to me and I will hang out. Okay, very good. It talks there about the earth being made in six days and God resting on the seventh day But the word made is different than the word created and what is What is really saying in fact in Genesis chapter 1 when it talks about the fourth day It says God made two great lights.
Well, those two great lights, the Sun and the Moon, which they’re defined to be, were created when the universe was created. And what happened was that the Earth became judged in verse 2 of Genesis 1. And then darkness was upon the face of the heat because the Sun’s light was cut out for millions of years. And then just 6,000 years ago, God said, let there be light shining down upon the earth again. And on the fourth day, he reappointed the cinnamon’s purpose for this planet as he allowed them to be shining through the cloud cover and actually be seen by an observer on the earth up there in our atmosphere.
And so the word made is used. Then Skillfans does a good job of pointing out that this means to declare its function or its purpose. And it’s not the same as the word created. So they said in the moon we created a Genesis 1-1, but their new appointment for the planet earth didn’t occur till the fourth day. The same thing as in Exodus 20 verse 11 that verse talks about the earth’s new purpose and God appointed it during that seven day week of seven literal 24 hour days where he made the earth inhabitable again and this time he puts man on the planet.
Oh, that helps a little bit. But go to your concordance, look up the original word for create. That means to produce out of nothing. That didn’t happen during the six days. Yours was already here, but needed to be rejuvenated for life again. And he puts man on the planet this time. Thank you Armando for calling in. And we’re now going to go to Charles in Tampa, Florida. And Charles, welcome to my one. You’re on there. Good morning. I have a question relating to the questions by the earlier caller who asked about people to be into heaven when I get a close to death.
Yeah, I know I’ve read a lot of books and I’ve read testimonials about things that they have seen or heard, but I really don’t believe that. It’s not a life or death situation for me to argue over that, but I really personally don’t believe that happens. Well, I just wondered if you could just kind of tell me how you can relate to Acts chapter 7 verse 55 where Stephen seemed to be into heaven. Well, that I think is quite an unusual exception to the rule where actually you see heaven opened and you see Jesus there standing on the right hand of the Father.
And you’ll note that New Testament is pretty clear about when Christ paid for our sins and went back to heaven that He was seated on the right hand. Here He’s standing, apparently given Stephen the first Christian martyr standing ovation and it was certainly an encouragement to Stephen to see that. And Stephen here being such a godly man and like Christ, He forgave those who were throwing the stones that actually killed him there on that occasion. But I think that was an exception to the rule.
And I know in that transitional time, right after Christ left and told the New Testament record was completed, that God did some unusual things. But I think the miracles and tongues and all those things now ceased and are not around anymore and I don’t expect to see spectacular things. That thing is totally impossible, but I don’t really, when people tell me the stories usually. In a special way you can tell whether it’s a God or not. Is it in line with the Scripture?
And usually you’ll find that the people that come back with these tales mess up in some way where they contradict what the Bible clearly says is truth. And if you contradict the Bible then you’re wrong. And there’s no way to get around that. And that’s the way we can discern, as it says in 1 John chapter 4, the difference between the Spirit of Truth, which is the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of error which is Satan’s Spirit. a Satan spirit.
It tells us there don’t be gullible, don’t believe everything you hear, but test what you’re hearing against the Bible and if they don’t line up with the scriptures then you can know it’s not true. So that’s my answer and I just, I’ll just, okay? I was just saying that’s what I, that’s why I called because I couldn’t quite line up your answer with, with this particular scripture. Okay. I will thank you very much. Thank you I hope that helps with the morning acts with Stephen being martyred.
You are absolutely right. That there heaven opened up and Stephen looked up and saw Jesus standing which is unusual because he is seated right now on the right hand of the Father. But apparently he stood up for Stephen and probably a standing ovation for his courage in the face of this adversity and here they stoned him to death and killed him. One of those young men standing there and giving consent to his death was Paul. He was Saul at that time.
It became Paul after he got saved a little bit later. But he had persecuted Christians and was actually there with the stony of Stephen. We’re going to go there on our Israel trip. We’ll be outside the Lionsgate, which is also called Stephen’s Gate. And it was right there. We’ll stand really where Stephen was stoned. We’re going to see so many things. I hope any of you that are still considering or teetering on the fence here would make your choice.
You’ve got tomorrow to do it and I would recommend you call me today and let’s get this thing done. All right. We have now an anonymous caller from I think, Malusia County and we’re going to take that call from over near Daytona Beach. Okay. Welcome to Bibleline Hebrews 12. He was 12-17. All right, let me go zet about Esau. Yes. Okay. Esau here is not talking about his salvation. It’s talking about the blessing that he had given up. He sold his birthright to Jacob.
And then later he regretted that decision. We find that it says he sought the… Let me just read the verse for you know that how the afterwards when he would have inherited the blessing that he was rejected, for he found no place of repentance, so he sought it carefully with tears. What he’s trying to do is get his father to change his mind. Has nothing here to do with God. God. This is him crying and tearing and putting on the tear act for his father, Jacob, and remember Jacob and Esau.
Well Isaac is the one who is trying to get Isaac to change his mind about giving the blessing to Jacob. He wanted to get it back and he cried and he had tears and he was hoping for his dad to have repentance or change his mind and say I am going to take it back from Jacob and give it to you he saw and even though he cried and put on a big act for his father Isaac he found that Isaac didn’t change his mind though he saw it carefully at Sussier with tears he put on a big show to try to get his you know kids will do that but he’s not a kid here he’s an adult and now wants to get that birthright back it’s too late too bad society can’t get it back it has not anything to do with him going to heaven
or repentance with God or anything else. He’s trying to get his father, earthly father, Isaac to change his mind. It’s not a hit with him. Well yeah, that we should not be like Esau who really didn’t think spiritual things were very important and sold his birthright for just a pot of soup. So it’s saying in verse 16, lest there be any fornicator or profane person as Esau. saw was all of those things and more who for one more soul of meat sold as birthright.
It tells us here we need to recognize how important it is after we’re saved to serve Lord and later you might cry and regret. I believe there will be tears in the judgment of Christ for believers who didn’t serve the Lord, but it’s too late then. You’ll have regret and sorrow and loss of reward. That’s what James talks about in his book. He warns about, don’t let that happen to you. Don’t live out your life and waste it when you should be living your life for Christ after you are saved and it will bring about reward.
I heard this preach last night and they were saying that Esau didn’t find forgiveness because he was wanting the relationship but he didn’t want to change his heart. Okay, we’ll see they got this thing totally backwards because this has nothing to do with God here He wanted to get his father Isaac to change his mind and take back the blessing from Jacob and give it to him He saw and he saw it carefully with tears He planned this thing out and put on a big act and put on a big show and he cried and everything else and Isaac said no I’m not gonna.
I’m not gonna change my mind Okay, so whoever that preacher is didn’t get it right. Okay Okay, thank you so much for calling in from Volusia County, which is over there where the Big Daytona races are held. And we’re now going to go to Antonio in Tampa, Florida. And Antonio, welcome to my blind you are on the air. You’re on the end. Yes, sir. I want to ask a question. If you have a wife and she chooses not to be with you and you don’t doubt all you know to do and for instance the word is that be reconciled, like to your wife, but you don’t doubt everything.
He’s done everything you know to do and she refused to hear you. He refused. I mean, can the believer remarry? Well in the case of a situation like that it takes two obviously and if one person abandons the marriage, there’s really not a whole lot you can do about it. I believe that 1 Corinthians 7 teaches that if you’re the innocent party in a relationship where the one person permanently abandons that relationship that you are free to remarry. I hate to just say that blanketly without knowing more details, but let me recommend the book.
We have it in our resource center called Strike the Original Match. It’s by Charles Swindall and it talks about really trying to kindle that original marriage and keep it going and so he writes the book with that intent and he has a wonderful chapter in there about divorce and remarriage and he cautions it very very heavily by saying I don’t want you to read this with the thinking that you’re a way to escape out of a situation where you don’t want to be.
But he really is trying to get you to restore your original marriage and tells you some good advice on how to probably do that. But there he does of course tell about three different reasons which would allow for divorce and remarriage. I would recommend you get that book and study carefully and prayerfully before God see if there is not anything you can do on your part to restore it. But if not in the end a person permanently the men’s the marriage your free to remarry for example i know a young couple uh…
the man was going off to war uh… and uh… he uh… they both have got married because they didn’t know if they ever see each other again they want to be married and when he came back he moved to a different part of the country city never wanted to see her again and he totally abandoned that marriage and uh… they’d only been together for a couple of days before we went off uh… to the to the war and uh…
and obviously she had no root no recourse and she was innocent party and i believe that she certainly uh… i had that type of situation where wanted permanently uh… and forever abandoned that marriage and it was no fault of hers but he came back and uh… when a different direction with his life went to do a part of the country and and one nothing more to do with it so i thought she was free to remarry so that’s kind of an illustration But I hate to give advice on marriage and divorce and remarriage over the phone rather over the year here without knowing more details.
Thank you so much for your call and I would recommend you order that book Antonio, maybe that’ll help you. Thanks for calling in. Okay, now we’re going to go to Pete in Largo, Florida, and Pete, welcome to Bibleline your own ear. Yes, hi, Dr. Lindstrom. I’ve been wondering about for a long time. Why do you feel that God wrote the Bible in such a way that so much as Scripture is so easily misinterpreted even by sincere Christians? I would think that God would want His children to fully understand all of His Word.
Well, I think there are a couple of different reasons because God is not just going to lay it out for somebody who isn’t going to pay attention to what he has to say. In other words, if you’re seeking and you’re sincerely wanting to know what he has to say, it’s like in the scripture about knowing God’s will. Jesus said he is willing to do God’s will. We’ll learn what God’s will is. In other words, a lot of people, a lot of Christians are operating this way.
They say, Lord, tell us what God is. Tell me what your will is and then I’ll decide whether I’ll do it or not. That’s not the way it works. God says if you are upfront willing to do what I want you to do, then I will show you what my will is after you’ve made that first decision. And I discovered that for myself. It wasn’t until I just surrendered like Romans 12.1 says to do. I said Lord I’ll go wherever you want me to go.
I’ll do whatever you want me to do. I’ll say whatever you want me to say and I’ll do it willingly. I want to know what that is and I’ll do it. And then I began to seek out and direct my life. But it didn’t happen when I was sitting back saying, okay Lord tell me what you want me to do and then I’ll decide whether I want to do it or not. It just doesn’t work that way. And if you really want to know the truth and that’s your heart’s desire, God will open the Scriptures up to you.
But the lost person who doesn’t really want to know that thinks he’s wise in his own conceits will never understand the Bible. and read it and read it and read it and read it and read it and read it and it’s just like a filter that filters him out. But it allows children, little children, can understand the truth of the Bible and the Scriptures. Maybe not the deeper things, but they can understand the Gospel and come to love the Word and understand how much he loves them and that can be a child.
And like the prayer we read the other day from Matthew 11.25 he said, I thank the father, Lord of heaven and earth that thou hast hid these things from the wise and the prudent and has revealed them unto babies. And that’s the key. I think those who are like children coming and wanting to know truth from the father, he opens up this picket and lets you have it. But those who are wise and are unconceived, he says, you’re not going to figure this thing out.
Thank you. All right. Good answer. Thank you a lot for calling and appreciate that call. And that’s the way it works. So you as a believer, and I know for myself, if you’re just trying to figure out whether you want to do it after you find out what it is, you might say, well I don’t think I want to do that Lord, walk away. He’s not going to ever reveal his will to you. You have to be willing to say I will do whatever you, and by the way, whenever you discover what that will is, I think you’re going to find out that it’s really where you want to be because that’s the happiest place for any believer to be is in the center of God’s will.
So it’s not like I had a fear I really personally did. Lord I don’t think I want to do this I don’t want to do that and I was fearful that he was going to give me a sink out of a bad deal and that isn’t the way God works. He really is going to give you the best deal and you just need to say I’m going to do it and I may not understand it. Abraham didn’t know where he was going when God led him to the Promised Land, but he went believing, trusting that God was going to guide him to the place where he would be happy and in the center of his will.
We’re coming to the end of the program here and we sure do thank you for tuning in today. I want you to go to Israel. Tomorrow will be the last day to secure the spot. Would you consider doing that? And maybe if not by credit card mailing that gift in, you can call them. We’ll send you a number with our address on it. You can mail it. we’re going to go now to bob and uh… palm harbor and bob you’re on the air good morning doctor hanko u all right good morning one of the question about when prices down here he asked god to forgive those who had convicted him and honey monocross yes seems contradictory in that He’s almost sounds like he’s asking for salvation for those who can you kind of explain that?
Well, I don’t know that we’ll ever fully understand, you know, but he’s a God of love and God of compassion. And certainly he was dying to pay for us that are sinners and one that’s all to be saved. And in a way we’re all guilty of his death because he died there for our sins. So I think, yes indeed, he’s offering salvation and those that would respond to that and trust him as your Savior would be forgiven of that sin and of all other sins.
So the fact that they were guilty of crucifying Christ was not the unpardonable sin that they could be forgiven but it would have to be through their trusting in what he was accomplishing there on the cross for him is death and shed blood. We’re out of time. Thank you for that call and we’re going to come back again tomorrow. Don’t forget we have classes tonight on 1 Peter if you’re in the driving distance. Come on out tonight and have a great day and keep looking up.
