A lot of folks, and I hear it all the time, are told in many churches that you have to be water baptized to be saved. Now, I believe in water baptism. We immersed people fully, and we have had a lot of people get baptized here in the last couple of years. We usually do it outdoor in a lake.
I just love the outdoor scene. We just got back from Israel in March and we baptized people in the Jordan River. That’s right, it was cold and we put them under the water in the Jordan River and we believe in baptism but it does not save you. Just remember God’s classic example or illustration that He gave us with the tooth beams being crucified with Christ. The one that was saved never had a chance to get water baptized and yet Jesus told him Today thou shalt be with me in paradise.
He was never baptized.” And some people say, well, that was Old Testament. No, not really. He died in the New Testament era. He died after Christ had already died. When the soldiers came to break the legs of the ones being crucified, they came to Christ and he was already dead. Then it says they broke the legs of the two thieves in order to expedite their death and Then they couldn’t push up and catch a breath of air and they would suffocate.
And so that’s what happened and they died after Christ had already died. So nobody has ever been saved by water. Water cannot wash away your sin. The hymn writer had it right when he said, What can wash away my sin? The answer is nothing but the blood. What a great answer. Nothing but the blood. Nothing but the blood. But the blood of Jesus could ever wash away your sin. I love Revelation 1-5. It says unto him that loved us and washed us from our sin in his own blood.
Jesus died and shed his blood and it is by his blood that we are cleansed of our sin. And we are washed, the Bible says, in the blood of Jesus. I hope that you have trusted Christ as your Savior because there is no other way to get to heaven. Now let me just say, if you are trusting in water baptism, plus your faith in Christ, I believe you are lost. That’s right. I will never forget one particular person who told me that he had to be water baptized to be saved.
And I said, you are not saved. And he said, yes I am. I said, no you are not. He said, yes I am. I said, no you are not. I said, the reason why is because you are trusting in baptism plus Christ and that is a work And that violates the plan of salvation. The Bible says salvation is not of yourself. It is the gift of God. It’s not of words, lest any man should boast Ephesians 2, 8, and 9.
And he just couldn’t see that. Well, in any case, we went through all verses and took considerable time. And finally he realized, yes, if I’m trusting in Jesus plus anything, then I’m not really trusting Jesus. I like that illustration. If you’re on a dock and you’re going to step off into a small boat, are you trusting the boat when you put one foot on the boat? No. You still have one foot on the dock. What if you put both feet on the boat but you still have two hands holding on to the dock?
Are you trusting the little boat? No, you’re not. You are not trusting the boat. Well, what if you have two feet on the boat and one hand on the dock? Well, you’re still not trusting the boat because you still have a hand on the dock. What if you have both feet on the boat and you have your hands now firmly tied or hooked or firmly gripping a rope tied to the dock? Well you’re still not trusting the boat because you’re still connected to the dock.
You see it’s until you cut all ties. Get all your hands and feet off the dock and you’re not touching or holding onto any rope connected to the dock when you completely rest your weight upon the little boat, that’s when you’re trusting the boat. And it’s not until you fully trust Christ where you cut all the strings, all the ropes, all the ties, and you simply put your trust in Jesus Christ that you become saved. When the Bible says, Whosoever, believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
It’s talking about trust. The Greek word translated to believe is postuo, P-I-S-T-E-U-O, and it means to trust, to rely upon, to put your confidence in, to rest your weight upon. And it’s not until you cut all ties to everything else. And simply put your full weight, rest all of your eternity into the hands of Christ. trust Him and Him alone in order to save you that God saves you. But a lot of people are trusting in baptism, confirmation, church membership, penance, mass.
My friend, if you’re trusting in any of those things in addition to Christ, you’ve never trusted Christ. You’re still saying there’s something that I must do in order to be saved. That’s works. And the Bible tells us we’re not saved by works at all. And tragically there will be those who will never enter heaven because of that. You know in Matthew chapter 7 there’s a large crowd that comes before Christ and the event is the judgment called the Great White Throne Judgment which happens after the thousand year reign of Christ.
And Christ comes back. At the Rapture seven years later at the Second Coming he will set up a thousand year rule on this Earth. Where will it be peace on Earth? Good will toward men. At the end of that thousand years all the unsaved dead will stand before the Lord at the great white throne judgment. In Matthew 722 it says, Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name or preached in your name and in thy name cast out devils and in thy name done many wonderful works.
And you know what Christ says to them? Not how wonderful. Oh, I’m so glad and applauds them. He says, I’m sorry. He says, I profess unto them, I never knew you. Not I once knew you and I lost you. I never knew you, depart from me ye that work iniquity. You see, they came with the wrong answer as to how to enter heaven. In other words, if you come and you boast a new brag about all the wonderful things you’ve done, which is what this crowd did, they said, why we preached in your name and we healed in your name and we did wonderful works in your name.
And Christ says, wrong answer. You see, what they needed to have said is, Jesus, didn’t we believe or trust that you died and shed your blood at the cross for our sins and paid for them in full by your death and that you were buried and that you rose again from the dead. Christ would have said, come right on in. But notice they are boasting in their works. That’s what they were trusting in to get them to heaven. They said, why we preached in your name and we healed in your name.
And we did many wonderful works in your name and Christ will say, I never knew you. I never knew you. I once knew you and I lost you and that includes those that say I was baptized I was confirmed I went to church I attended Mass I did penance I said prayers Christ will say I never knew you I never knew you because you see in order to be saved you have to trust Christ and Christ alone I loved Hebrews chapter one verse five verse three Hebrews chapter one verse three I don’t know if you have your Bible open or if you’re making a note of some of these verses so you can look them up later.
But what a wonderful verse this one is. It’s Hebrews chapter 1 and you’ll find this in verse 3 where it tells us about Christ who is actually God who came and took on human flesh. And it tells us Christ who being the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of his person and upholding all things by the word of his power. Are you ready for this? Hebrews 1-3, When he had by himself. Get that. When he had by himself, purge their sins.
When he had by himself, purge their sins. It’s amazing how many people want to help Christ out. Oh yeah, he died. That’s right. But boy, I got to get baptized. Yes, he died, but I got to become a church member. O, he died, yes, but I got to keep the Ten Commandments. O, he died, but I’ve got to do penance, and I tend to mass all my friend. You are mistaken. You see, what it says here, Christ by Himself purged our sins.
Our sins were purged, our sins were paid for at the cross. Again, the hymn writer had written, What can wash away my sin? The answer, a great one. nothing but the blood. Nothing but the blood could wash away your sin. If you’re trusting in baptism, church membership, confirmation, penance, mass, prayer, prayers, you’re not going to make it to heaven. You’re not going to make it. I’m warning you. I’m telling you from God’s word that you are not going to make it.
Because Christ is the Savior. He’s the way. The Bible says, He that has Christ has life. And He that has not the Son of God has not life. If you don’t trust Christ as your only hope of heaven, my friend, you’ll not make it. You could do that right now. You could tell the Lord, Lord, I’m a sinner. I don’t understand a whole lot about the Bible, but I do trust right now. Jesus Christ as my only hope of heaven.
I believe and trust that He alone paid my sin debt. There’s nothing that I can do, nothing in my hand I bring, simply to thy cross I cling. I simply trust Jesus. The moment you do that, God saves you. And then of course we have to make a second decision if we want to get in on rewards and blessings, those are earned. And you can earn blessings and rewards by serving the Lord after you become saved, but we are never ever saved.
By doing works or by doing something of self. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bibleline. We’re gonna go to the phone lines. Again, we are still having a few problems with phone lines. So be persistent. Keep dialing and we’ll try to get you up. We have Leah in Inglewood, Florida and Leah. We welcome you to Bibleline. Thank you. You’re on the air. Hello. Hi. I have a question in Psalm 29 verse 6 and 7. Okay. I have three different Bible versions here.
One is the New King James, the other one is the original King James, and the other one is the New International New Century version. Okay. I have a question. Twenty-nine, he makes the land of Lebanon dance like a cast, and Mount Herman jumps like a baby bull. First, the Lord’s voice makes it a lightning flash. in the new century version, but in the new and old they are different places and different animals. I just want to give you an answer to why in different versions of the Bible there’s many different aspects of it.
Well if you’re talking about different animals you know it’s interesting that in 1611 they the best they could, but they weren’t always that good at identifying the animal that was being described. In fact, in the King James, you’ll find the word unicorn. Now we know that there is no such thing as a unicorn. Some today suggest that it’s really talking about the rhinoceros, which seems to have a single horn at the end, but certainly the mythological animal unicorn doesn’t exist.
So there have been problems obviously in translation, and especially of some animals that they didn’t really know what they were at that particular time. Since then, further scholarship has allowed us to do a better job of identifying some of these animals that the Bible was really talking about. And I think that’s the answer for you. OK, and what about the different places? In the New Century, there’s Lebanon, I believe, but it also says, Caddesh and a few other places, like Firion, like a young unicorn, Lebanon and Seryon, like a young unicorn, whereas in the new century version, it doesn’t mention Seryon.
Can you tell me what Seryon is, or if there’s the place and it has no significance? Well, I’ll have to look up Seryon for you, but it does say Lebanon and the King James here. I have it in my hand. So I would have to look at it when I’m for you. I’m not too sure. But I’m gonna imagine it’s a region of that part of the world. You know Lebanon is bordered on Israel to the north and Syria is probably some valley or some section of land there right next to joining to Lebanon and Israel in the Bible.
I’d have looked it up for you, but Lea, these are good questions and I’m glad you’re into your Bible study. And I hope this has been of help today. Thank you. Okay, Lea in Inglewood, Florida. And good questions. You know I had so many questions myself as a young person and I never had a chance to get them answered by anybody because nobody would ever even bother to look them up or try to even attempt to answer my questions.
And of course the most important question was my salvation and I certainly never had anybody explain to me how to be saved and it wasn’t until I was 18 that I discovered that eternal life was God’s gift and received by simply trusting Jesus as my Savior. We have a lot of all fear questions. I’ll try to take a few of those. All fear we have Alice in Tarpon Springs, Florida. And she says, please define what rightly dividing the word of truth means.
Well, rightly dividing means really to set the truth of God’s word in right order. And you have to be able to separate. For example, there is a difference between the first coming of Christ and the second coming of Christ. And that seems to be somewhat obvious and is easily very easily distinguished. But there’s also a difference between the rapture and the second coming. Those are totally two different events. And the right of the divide you need to separate. Many people become confused in their doctrine because they’re reading a passage about the second coming and they wrongly infer or interpret it to be about the rapture and then obviously they get it backwards.
You know, at the rapture we find that all the believers are caught up and meet the Lord in the air and unbelievers are left behind. The second coming the opposite takes place. All the believers are left behind to live into the thousand year reign of Christ. But all the unbelievers are taken in judgment and are killed or slain. And so obviously these are totally two different events and there’s at least 20 or 25 comparisons you can make to show how different they are.
That’s one of the reasons why I like Dr. Scofield’s Notes he does a good job in helping you rightly divide and in some of the editions that we have it has Dr. Scofill’s booklet rightly dividing the word now Let me just suggest if you haven’t seen it if you go to my website Bibleline Ministries on the home page on the left side. It says online books We have three there right now one is called the handbook of personal evangelism so you have it right there you can can actually print out chapters or pages that are helpful to you.
It’s got a lot of tremendous material in there. But the second book we have there is Dr. Schofield’s Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth. All 10 chapters are there in their entirety. And it really gives you some great examples of Rightly Dividing and how to do that. I would recommend you go to my website, go to the home page, go to the left side, click on online books. The second book that’s listed there is called Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth by Dr.
C.I. Schofield, and that’ll really help you out a lot. But that’s what it means, the Rightly Divide. One of the major areas where people fail to divide is the difference between being a believer and being a disciple. You can be a believer and not be a disciple. You can be a disciple and not be a believer. And if you can’t distinguish, then you really get confused. Judas, for example, was a disciple, but he was never a believer. And so Judas went to hell because not because he betrayed Christ, not because he committed suicide, but because he never trusted Christ as his Savior.
In John 664, Jesus said he knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him, which he was referring there to Judas. Being an unbeliever and the fact that he would betray Christ was someone that Christ already knew. It was no surprise to Jesus, but Judas was never a believer, although he was a disciple. That tells you that you can be a disciple of Christ and many are, and yet not believers, and they’re going to wind up in hell.
And they’ll be in that same category that we talked about earlier in Matthew 722, where many will say, look at all the wonderful things we’ve done, why we preached in your name and healed in your name, their disciples you see of Christ. But unless they have trusted Christ, death, burial and resurrection is shed blood is the only means of their salvation. They will be turned away and Christ will say, I never knew you. We now have John in Brandon, Florida.
John welcome to Bibleline your on the air. Hello John. And we’re having some phone problems. I hope John is there. John, are you there? Hello John. For some reason I can’t get John up and so we’ll have to just see if we can get John to call back or get him on a different line. We have sent off some of our equipment overnighted it to get it repaired and get it back so hopefully we’ll be able to get everybody up on the air today.
Okay, we have John now and he is on a different line. So John. Okay, all right, John, we got you. All right, quick question for you, Dr. Hank. My question is, I have a problem and I want to find out if I’m allowed to take medication. Are you allowed to take medication? Yes. I believe that you can take medication. The Bible talks about those kind of things about using herbs and different things that are obviously God’s way of giving us healing aids and of course, and you can go to the doctor, of course if you’re taking illegal drugs and you’re in trouble, but definitely I think you can take medication.
You have to be careful though. Some people get over medicated or take medications that they become dependent upon and become addicted to, so you have to be careful. I really try to take as little medication as I possibly can myself, but sometimes you get ill, you have to get an antibiotic. And John, I hope that helps, and John has gone off the air there. Alright, we have Patty in Tampa 4, calling in and leaving an off air question forth.
Patty says, what is considered works? How do we know we are doing works to gain our rewards in Heaven? A different effort expended on our part and anything you do for God will bring about reward in heaven. So what kind of works can you do? Well, obviously, if you read your Bible that’s a good work. If you attend a good church and are there on a regular basis that is a good work. If you share the gospel with the lost that is a good work and so on and so on and there are There are numerous things you can do that God will reward you for.
In Matthew 6 in the Sermon on the Mount Christ talks about laying up treasures in heaven. The way we do that is by doing things here on this earth that will count for heaven’s sake. As you read through the Bible there are numerous things that the Bible outlines even being a good testimony as an employee in your place of work. Ephesians says that if you do that you’ll be rewarded in heaven for being a good employee if you are a good example and a good employee and you are They’re faithfully and you are a great witness for Christ in How you live your life and how you present yourself in the office?
and so on God is going to richly reward you even for that so you can go to work in the morning and say I’m going to be the earning rewards in heaven today and Redefesion six and you’ll see that there are numerous other things, but hopefully that helps today But a lot of things that you and I could do that will earn rewards in heaven We have anonymous in Texas calling in and he says other than yourself Who is the greatest theologian or Bible scholar living today?
That’s embarrassing to read that one, but thank you for the flattering compliment But I like Charles Ryrie, I like John Walvard, I like a number of good Bible teachers that are out there that have written things. And a lot of those that I’ve mentioned here, we have them in our Resource Center. We have, for example, a number of books by Lewis Perry Shafer. I love him. He founded Dallas Theological Seminary many years ago and we find that he has a systematic theology.
We have a great buy on that. It is usually $179. I think we have it for a hundred and we have a lot of his single books on lots of things. They’re really good. We are out of time. We’re going to have to take a break and come back and do a second half hour of Bible line. So we don’t want you to go away. Hold on to your radio. it tight and we’ll be right back after this short break and we’ll do a second half hour and if your station doesn’t carry go to the internet and you get the full program.

Thank you for praying for Bible and we appreciate everyone of you who tune in and pray for this program and are supported behind us. We’re now going to go to Troy in the land, Florida and Troy. Welcome to Bibleline your own year. Good morning, Dr. Hank. I was looking at the Gideon International Bible and the Bible, a virus that you were talking about, Matthew 721. In chapter 7, 23 they changed it to lawlessness, preached from that verse and they connected with the law.
Also the verse you talked about. Well you know they’ve taken and I think what they have there is the New King James. The Gideon’s have now gone to the King James and now the New King James and that New King James has got a lot of problems with it and that’s one of them. Yeah, and they also in the Gideon International. From Tennessee, it’s at a Knoxville. They also changed the verse and Luke, when you were talking about the converted, you know, new versions out there that take away important words and scripture.
Well, you’re absolutely right. And that’s why we have the book here, New Age Bible Versions. It covers about 20 of them. And I’m sure that what you’re reading there is the New King James. The Gideon’s have now adopted that also as well as the King James in their editions. they give out. So beware that this is creeping in everywhere now. It’s hard to find anybody who’s holding the line on a good translation. And the verses about rightly dividing the word.
I know you know exactly where it’s at, but I just wanted to mention for the caller that it is in Timothy. Second Timothy 215, yes. Yeah. So anyway, thanks and keep up the good work. And I just wanted to, you know, I know So when you repeat those verses and the people look in their Bible, they see lawlessness and they really have heard pastors preach that when you refer to 721 about Christ not knowing them, they refer that as the Christians keeping the law and working their way to heaven.
Well, it’s not unfortunate because that’s not what it says in the verse. It says we preached in your name and healed in your name and done many wonderful works in your name and Christ said, I never knew you. So it’s quite specific there. And he says, depart from me in the King James, you that work iniquity. So he’s really calling that sin. And if they translated it lawlessness, that would be the definition of lawlessness there. It would be to disobey what God said about how to be saved and just disregard that and try to work your way to heaven by preaching and healing and doing wonderful works as opposed to trusting in the finished work of Christ at the cross that he paid it all.
Yeah, here it says, and then I will declare it to them, I never knew you, depart from me, you who practice lawless vision. Okay, well, the important thing is that he never knew them, that means they were never saved, and they were never saved because if you notice in that previous verse, it’s, no, there’s no there’s nowhere that it says a trusted Christ in his death and shed blood which is the means of salvation. Troy, we sure thank you for calling in.
That was Troy over in the land floor which is over there on the east coast of Florida near Daytona Beach. We have a player calling in off here from Conroe, Texas and welcome Claire to the program. It’s an all fair question with us here. Pastor Hank, will we be reunited with our pets on the day of the rapture? I believe, no, we will not. I do not believe pets have an afterlife. I believe when pets die, they die. I think there will be animals in heaven, Claire.
That might bring you some comfort, but it won’t be Fido that was your favorite pet dog here. I believe that pets die, and that’s it. They don’t have an afterlife. No, I do not believe you’ll be reunited with your pets and I know that might not be the answer you want to hear But I’ll be asked the honest answer. She also goes on to say thank you so much for your ministry You’ve been such a blessing to our family.
Thank you pastor Hank. God bless you. That’s clear in con row Texas and pets are not raptured and pets do not have an afterlife they You know, it’s only us in the human race that have been created an ever-living soul Our souls will never die and will either spend eternity in heaven with the Lord or spend eternity In hell separated from the Lord based upon what we do with Jesus Christ if we trust him We are saved and saved forever, but if we don’t we’re forever lost we have now Adam and Tampa, Florida Adam, welcome to Bibleline.
Yes, I think. My question just, I really want you to please clarify if you can. What is with the following angels? Are they roaming around here? Or, when did it happen? Like, I really want to know how all of this went down. I can’t understand it and where it is in the Bible. Could you just help me understand it? Okay. I believe that all of the angels that are fallen fell when Satan fell when he attempted to overthrow heaven it’s described in Isaiah 14 verses 13 and 14 Where we have the five eye wills of Satan and he I believe lived on the earth As it was originally created perfect and inhabited with plants and animals and dinosaurs and so on, that Lucifer ruled over this earth for perhaps millions and millions and millions of years.
In Genesis 1-2, I think we have the event which is the fall of Satan. He attempts to leave the earth where he was the God of this world in charge of all of the angels of God living here on the earth. They left the Treadoverthrow Heaven God through the angels back down to the earth and destroyed all life on the planet earth and the earth became without form and was void. Now God did not create the earth that way.
We learned that from Isaiah 45 18 where it says when God created the earth he created it perfect and he created it inhabited it says and And he did not create a vein which the word vain in Isaiah 45, 18 is the same word in the Hebrew translated void in Genesis 1, 2. So the way we find the earth in verse 2 is not the way it was created it way. It became void as a result of this judgment.
So all of the angels have been judged and it says they’re in chains, a chain to everlasting darkness. What that means is that they cannot get out of their final destiny, but it doesn’t mean that they’re not loose running around It’s like on house arrest You know criminals that on house arrest can You know get out and do things But they are obviously Linked to some kind of a monitor on their leg or whatever in other words The law enforcement can track them and if they don’t follow the rules and they’ll be put back in the slammer.
But the angels that are fallen, God tracks them, he knows exactly where they are. They can only go so far, but they’re ultimately going to be cast into hell. So that is the answer and all of the angels are alive and well. All the fallen angels are alive and well on the planet Earth as Satan is as well. And Helenzi did that well in his book where He said Satan is alive and well and pondered. That was a great book.
Thank you. Alright, that was Adam and angels are out there and they’re the demons that the Bible talks about in the New Testament. I’m Dr. Inklynston. This is Bibleline. Let me give you the phone number. It’s 1-800-576-3771. We are having some phone problems. We’ve had it since last week. We have equipment that’s being repaired and hopefully will be over nighted back to us and we’ll get this problem resolved. But again, that’s a part of what happens with radio and that’s where some of our money goes.
When you donate, you keep us with equivalent to works and we have to get it repaired or buy new equipment from time to time and that’s among the other expenses that we have. Your gifts are greatly appreciated and God bless every one of you. If you can help us in the summer months, that would be greatly appreciated. We have Lu in Tampa, Florida, and he says, please give the different definitions of the word love. And so the Bible uses three different Greek words.
There are actually five different Greek words that are translated love in English. So English is the word love is kind of all over the place. It can mean different things. the Greek is quite specific. The highest form of love is agape, A-G-A-P-E, agape love, is an unselfish giving love, and that’s the kind of love that God has had toward you and me. In John 3, 16, the Greek word agape is used for God so loved the world. There’s also the word filio and that means a brotherly love.
Philadelphia is named from that Greek word the city of brotherly love and that is the love of like a brother and sister, a family relationship type of love where you love your family members and that is also being used in the Bible and there is several more forms. One that is not used is Eros. We which is of course a sexual or sensual love, and that is certainly not one used in the Bible, but it’s used in secular literature from the Greek language.
But the form of love that you and I ought to have toward others is a kape love. not expecting anything in return just giving and meeting people’s needs because We want to from the heart and that’s the way we ought to serve the Lord. We ought to love him with an agape love just as he has loved us with an unselfish love as well. The poem over here at Bibleline is 1-800-576-3771, 1-800-576-377-1. We invite you to give us a call.
I know you have to be persistent because our phone lines, I don’t know exactly. I think it’s an equipment we have that needs to be repaired, we’re on top of that. Hopefully it’ll be fixed shortly. But again, that’s some of the things that happen. But if you just keep on dialing, we’ll keep on trying to get you up online that we’ll transfer here to the radio program. We don’t welcome all those people up in the northeast part of Florida there.
We’re on a new station up there, new to us. WYMM out of Jacksonville, a 50,000 watt station that is at 1530 on the AM dial. And that reaches up into Southern Georgia and reaches all the way over west to the I-75 quarter, including Lake City, Gainesville, and everything in between. all the way down past St. Augustine to the south and up in Georgia. So we’re excited and we hope that if you’re listening up there on WYMM, you’ll give us a call and let us know you’re hearing the program.
We’re just excited about being on the air up there and want to know that if you’re in any area they’re listening to the program, let us know that you’re hearing us. We should be We’re getting people driving up and down I-95, people driving up and down I-75 and everything in between. And we are excited about that. We’re on in Chattanooga every day. We’re on in Nashville every day. We’re on in Memphis, Tennessee every day. We’re on in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania every day.
We’re on in the Capitol of Michigan. We’re in Lansing, Michigan. We’re on in Flint and Saigonon, Michigan. We’re in the Capitol of New York State. Albany, New York, Utica, New York. We’re on in Richmond, Virginia. We’re on in Mobile, Alabama, we’re on in Pensacola, Florida. We’re on in Delan, Florida. Now in Jacksonville, Florida, we’re on in Sarasota, Florida. And of course the internet takes us all over the world yesterday when we broadcast our worship service on the internet. We found that we We had a listener or watcher let us know that they were in the UK listening to or watching our worship service.
That’s exciting and we’re now reaching out all over the place. Well we have Carl calling in from Holt, Michigan and he says, what is the Greek word in the Lord’s Prayer for debt? Why has it been changed to trespasses? And off the top of my head, I don’t know what that Greek word is, I would have to look it up. But again, this is the problem with these new translations, Carl, is that we have a lot of freedom today.
Here’s something very interesting. All these publishers want their own copyrighted version of the Bible. in order to get a copyright, they have to change at least 10% of the Bible to qualify for their own copyright. So that tells you why there have been so many changes. Some of these modern translations have as many as 5,000 deletions, 5,000 deletions. And so no wonder we’re getting all messed up here with the translations that are out there. So, Carl, thank you for calling in from Holt, Michigan.
I’m Dr. Anglinson, this is by blind. The phone number here if you wanna call in is 1-800-576-3771. We have here a call from Sheridan, Arkansas, and Tyler calls in and he says, Hey, you are so wrong. Listen, it is not just faith it gets you to heaven. Read Acts 2.38 where Peter told them the way. So yeah, I mean it is not just by faith but by his power. Tyler, I’m afraid that there’s a problem with Acts 2.38 in that the words that are key there need to be defined.
First of all, repent. Peter sells the 9-2-3-8 repent and the Greek word for repent is methanoya. M-E-T-A meaning change. Noya, N-O-I-A meaning mind. methanoya means a change of mind. So. Peter was telling these people at Pentecost that they had crucified the real genuine Messiah. They thought he was an imposter, a fraud, a deceiver, and that’s why they crucified him. Peter says you have to change your mind. Also, it says they’re in Acts 2.38 be baptized. But it’s not a baptism with water.
The baptism in Acts 2.38, if you read it carefully, it says, read it. I mean change your mind recognize that you made a mistake and crucified the real Messiah when you thought he was not the real Messiah and you need to recognize that Christ is indeed the Savior. Notice verse 36, therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus, the one whom you crucified both Lord and Christ. That means he’s God and he’s the Messiah.
So they needed to change their mind about that. And secondly, the baptize says every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus. Now that is not water. There are ten different baptisms taught, Tyler, in the New Testament. And most of them are dry. Most of them do not involve any liquid whatsoever. So in other words, this is not talking about water. It doesn’t say they baptize with water. It says, be baptized in the name. Now if you look over in 1 Corinthians, there’s another illustration of that.
There were two verses there in chapter 6 of 1 Corinthians, verse 9 and 10 that list the whole lot of sins that would keep a person out of heaven. But it says in verse 11 of 1 Corinthians, and such were some of you. But you are washed, it says, in the name of the Lord Jesus. So So we have here there is a washing, a cleansing in the name of the Holy Spirit, or rather the name of the Lord Jesus Christ that occurs when you trust Christ as Savior and your cleanse of all of your sin.
So I’m imagining, Tyler, that you’re trying to say that you must be turning from your and water baptized to be saved. That is not what Acts 2.38 says. And certainly Peter, who is speaking there in Acts 2.38, later in Acts 10.43 makes it very, very simple. He says that to Jesus or Yeshua give all the prophets witness that through his name, whosoever believeth in him shall receive the remission of their sins. Then Acts 1511, Peter says, we believe that through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved.
Never mentions water, never mentions turning from sin. He simply says we’re saved by grace and so on and so on. Well Tyler, I hope you keep listening here and share it in Arkansas, but you are confused thinking that there’s something of self you must do. And if you add any works, Tyler dissolvation, then you will not be saved. I’m pleading with you that you take a fresh look because the Bible says if you add any work to what Christ did, then you no longer have God’s grace.
Let me recommend that you read Romans 11, 6, where it says, If it be of works, then it is no more of grace. it be of works, then it is no more grace. So if you add any work, then you’ll no longer have God’s grace. And without God’s grace or mercy, you will not enter heaven. That’s for sure. I know Tyler, you’re saying that it’s not that easy. It’s difficult. And I really don’t know what translation you’re reading out of, but the Bible doesn’t say it’s difficult to go to heaven.
But in some of the modern translations, it translates into that way. It narrow is the way in Matthew. You must have one of those bad translations that says difficult, which is a totally different concept. It’s narrow because Christ is the only way to heaven. There are no other ways to heaven. There are lots of ways to hell, the broad way. You could choose any religion you want and it will all take you to hell. But to be saved, there’s only one way that’s Christ and that’s why it’s narrow.
But it never says in the the Bible that is difficult to go to heaven. In fact, it is easy. The Bible tells us that it’s easy. It’s something that God has done for us. And He offers salvation as a gift. How hard is it, Tyler, to receive a gift? Well, I’ll be praying for you. Obviously you’re not saved because you’re trusting in your works to save you, not Christ alone. And that is, of course, the false message that the Bible warns about.
Tyler, thank you for calling in. This is Bibleline, and by the way, we’re hoping for a great week this week, and I hope you’ll tune us in every day. And Tyler, go ahead and come back at me and elaborate further on the question that you have, and we’ll try to take another stab at it. at it or you can call in and be on the program live on the air and we’ll talk about this and we would love to hear from you.
We are going to be back again tomorrow and we’re here all week long and I hope you’ll tune us in every day and tell your friends about the program. We’re getting callers now from all over the United States and we’re also getting offers from other parts of the world and that’s exciting. know that we’re reaching out and I hope that you will tune in and tell your friends as well. You know, if you have friends in other countries or other parts of the United States, would you tell them about the Internet site, BibleLineMinistries.org, then they can listen to the program live or they can hear it later at their leisure and they can also submit questions right on On that radio page, when you go to BibleLineMinistries.org, click on the spinning globe and you’ll come up with a page that has a place already set to go for you to leave a question.
So you can type it in, put your first name in city and hit submit and we’ll get that we’ll try to answer it on the air. If you’re listening and you haven’t trusted Jesus alone, that means if you think you to turn from sin, join the church, be water baptized, my friend, you’re really headed for help. You have to be saved the way the dying people saved. He simply trusted Christ, and Jesus said to him, today thou shall be with me in Paris.
There’s nothing more required. Would you just tell the Lord Lord on the center? I don’t understand much, but I do believe or trust that Jesus paid my sin debt and full and it’s by his death and shed blood that I will be cleansed of my sin. I trust him right now to save me to be my only hope of heaven and God will indeed do that. I hope also that you’ll tell your friends about the program and I hope that you’ll serve the Lord and live for him to earn rewards but salvation is God’s free gift.
Don’t forget to get our internet site, mottalindministries.org. So you can call in if you want to give a gift to Bible and help us out. You can call 1-800-576-3771 and our operators will be glad to take your gift. In any case, I’m Dr. Inklynstern. We have to say goodbye, but keep looking up. Jesus is coming.
