You know the Bible is an incredible book and we’re going to talk about the Bible for a little bit, and then we’re going to go ahead and take the calls coming in today. We invite you to be a part of all of that. It’s exciting, but we’re living in the last days and we believe Christ is coming soon. One of the things predicted about the last days is that the Bible would come under attack, and therefore we need to be alert to that, so we’re not surprised when we hear attacks coming on the Word of God, because that is par for the Course.
You can expect that there will be attacks. The Bible says in 2 Peter chapter 3, in verse 3, this note, first, and in the last days, last days scoffers will come and they will actually mock the Bible and try to put down the Bible. So therefore we are seeing it and we know one of the signs of the last days is exactly that. Christians will not know very much about their Bible because the Bible says that apparently they will be distracted by wanting to have their ears tickled.
It says in 2 Timothy chapter 4 that the time will come and I believe it has when they will will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lust it would heap to themselves teachers having itching ears and turn away their ears from the truth. That’s the word of God and be turned into fables or fiction. That’s right. Well, you know, the Bible is an amazing book and under inspiration… It does record lies, although the Bible does not lie.
Did you know that? For example, the record of the lie, like any other record is true. But sometimes the Bible has lies in it. Let me give you an example. In Genesis 3-4, the Bible does not say you shall not surely die. But it does say that the serpent said you shall not surely die. The statement was false, but the record of that statement is true. is inspired and true. So that was a lie on the part of Satan.
But if you read the complete statement, you see that Satan said that and the accuracy is, of course, right on because that’s exactly what Satan did. We know another example is interesting. In 1 Samuel 31, verse 3 and 4, the Bible states that Saul was wounded in battle, and that he afterward kills himself. This is correct. But in 2 Samuel, chapter 1 and verses 1-10, the Bible states that a young man, claiming to be an amelachite, reports to David, probably with the hope of reward, that he had slain Saul.
This is false. So the Bible does not state that the amelachite slew Saul, but it does record the fact that he told David that he slew Saul. His statement according to the passage in 1st that Samuel 31 was false, but the record of the statement is inspired and true. So it’s very important to be careful when you’re reading the Bible to know who is the one making the statement and is it a true statement or not. Sometimes the Bible records the misconceptions of lost people and others and misperceptions of things that they’re seeing.
For example, Nicodemus came to Christ at midnight and he said in verses 1 through 3 of John’s gospel chapter 3, he says, no man can do these miracles except God be with him. Now that was a statement that’s not true. Now it’s true in the sense that Nicodemus said it but the statement is not accurate because we know that Satan can do miracles. In fact, it tells us that the false prophet when he comes will deceive men on the earth by means of the miracles which he has power to do.
We find Deuteronomy 13 tells us about false prophets are fully capable of doing miracles, and the Bible tells us don’t believe them if their message isn’t right. So we are to check out what they say against the word of God, and that is the test. And if they do not speak according to the Bible, the Bible says it’s because there is no light in them. I love Isaiah 820. It says if they speak not according to this word, the word of God, it is because there is no light in them.
That is a wonderful test to this very day when you’re hearing a preacher or a message and you just take in whatever you hear, you’re in danger of being deceived. Many people kind of sing that tune, what he feeds me, I will swallow, what he feeds me, I will swallow. I didn’t mean to break into the song here, but you know a lot of people just are gullible. And it tells us in 1 John 4 1, beloved, don’t be gullible.
Don’t believe every one that you hear, but it says, but test the preachers against the word of God because many false teachers are gone out into the world. So we have to be careful that we don’t accept everything we hear. We need to check out and challenge what we’re hearing, making sure it’s in the Bible. Have you ever asked chapter in verse please, please show me that in the Bible. And then even then you have to be careful to read it for yourself and see that that is really what the Bible is saying.
As we began today we talked about how the Bible records lies. The lie of Satan that he says thou shalt not surely die is right there in Genesis. But it doesn’t tell us that that’s true. It tells us that Satan is the one who spoke that lie. But unless you read the context, maybe you wouldn’t even know that it was a lie. We need to be careful in looking at the Word of God and challenging and saying, is that really true?
Christmas time, there were so many things that we saw that were inaccurate as to our learning about the Bible. Obviously, we’re learning from sources outside the Bible. For example, the wise men did not come to the stable. The wise men… The wise men didn’t see the baby lying in a manger. The wise men saw a young child. They came to a house in Bethlehem. They came two years after the birth of Christ. And they didn’t follow the star from the east to Jerusalem.
They saw the star again once they had left Herod for the second time, but they didn’t follow Yonder’s star as the hymns would have us to believe. We find that the hymns would have us to believe. that in Luke’s record when the shepherds came there was no star there was no wise men present and so on and you know there’s an interesting difference between Luke’s gospel and Matthew’s gospel and in Luke we have Christ presented as a Savior and so in order to be saved we don’t bring any gifts we don’t give anything to God to be saved because it’s something that God has purchased and we receive it free.
In Luke 2, 11, it says, for unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. The shepherds didn’t bring any gifts. Why? Because to be saved, you don’t bring anything. I like the hymn where it says, nothing in my hand I bring. Simply to thy cross, I cling. To be saved, We don’t bring anything. We don’t give anything. We don’t work. We simply trust in the finished work of Christ. But yet the wise men when they came brought gifts because why?
They were coming to worship a king and obviously to be the king’s servants you need to do and to give and so on. And really, Matthew’s Gospel is really a picture of discipleship where we give after we’re saved, but to be saved we don’t give. And so in Luke’s Gospel there is no giving. The shepherd simply came to the birthplace and came to the Savior, and we simply come to Christ to be saved. But after we’re saved we come to be disciples and we choose to serve, and that brings about reward.
Very, very important. I think to look at the Bible carefully and check out what it says. And just like the whole thing about angels, the angels in the Bible do not have wings, they do not have halos, they always appears men, there are no female angels, there are no baby angels, and perhaps one of the interesting things that you’ll find there’s not a verse anywhere in the Bible that says an angel sings. That’s right. And what an amazing thing.
Every Christmas hymn seems to have choirs of angels and angels singing when there’s not a verse in the Bible that says that at all. Well, that tells us that we’re not paying attention to the Bible, doesn’t it? It tells us that we’re not looking up information and learning directly from the Source, the Word of God. We are relying on Christmas cards, Christmas pageants, and it seems like everybody gets it wrong. They all have the wise men following the star.
They all have the wise men coming up to the stable. The wise men never saw the stable. They came to a house, if you read Matthew 2 11, and they saw not a baby, an infant lying in a manger, but a young growing developing child about two years of age. And so the Bible needs to be looked at freshly every time. When we talk about salvation, most people add some kind of work to what Christ did. And if you do, you won’t be saved.
It says in Romans 11, 6, if you’re saved by grace, then it is no more of works. Otherwise, grace isn’t grace. But if you’re saved by works, then it’s no more grace or mercy. Otherwise, work isn’t work. In other words, The reason works are the opposites and grace is the absence of works. And if you add any works to grace, you no longer have grace. And so you’d not want to stand before God and not have any mercy because you’d go to hell.
You know, if I offered you a glass of absolutely pure water, you would not hesitate to drink it. But if I took that glass of pure water and took an eyedropper and dropped some arsenic or some other deadly poison into that water and handed it to you. I don’t think you’d want to drink it. Why? Because that one drop would contaminate the whole glass and you’d have a glass of poisoned water. Well, in the same way, if I were to offer you the grace of God or as God offers you his grace or his mercy, and you were to add one human work.
As being a part of salvation, you would poison the whole glass and you would no longer have a glass filled with the grace of God, but you would have a glass of poison. You would not be able to be saved. And so it’s important to recognize that we’re saved according to the Bible by faith alone in Christ alone, and that works have no part at all in our being saved. But after we’re saved, then that’s the time for the Christian to work so that we can earn rewards in heaven.
and blessings here and now. I’m Dr. Engdlinstrum, this is Bible and we’re going to go to the phone lines and we hope that you’ll call us at 1-800-576-3771, 1-800-576-3771. We have Darnell in St. Petersburg and Darnell, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes, good morning Mr. O’Lester. I have a question, this is regarding about death and I wanted to know about paradise. In the Bible there was a guy on the cross and Jesus said he’s going to be in a paradise.
Now is it true that when we die we enter that paradise? Well paradise used to be in the heart of the earth and that’s where he went. Christ said in Matthew 1240 he would be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. All of the Old Testament saints because sin and night had been paid for went to this temporary place called Paradise where they waited until sin had been paid for. When Christ died, he went down into Paradise and on the third day he emptied the place out and now Paradise is up in heaven itself.
So yes, we go to Paradise, but it’s no longer in the heart of the earth. Talking about, now this is where it kind of got me confused. I don’t have my notes with me because I’m at work. But what was Paul talking about in Thessalonians, I don’t know what happened, but I know it’s the 16th verse when he said, when the Lord should descend with the voice of the art angel and he was talking about don’t be ignorant about the ones that sleep.
So was he talking about the ones that died in the tribulation period or was he talking about the Old Testament saints? He wasn’t talking about those at all. He’s talking about the church age saints from Pentecost until the Rapture that when you die, the body is spoken of as sleeping, but the soul is present with the Lord. If you read verse 14, most people miss it. He says, if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, that’s the gospel.
Then it says that Jesus, when he comes, will bring with him the souls of those that have already died. But their bodies are spoken of as sleeping. So what happens at the rapture? Christ comes back with their souls to the upper atmosphere and their bodies rise up from the earth, the dead rise, speaking of the body, and their body and their soul is reunited. Then it says in verse 17 that we which are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
So we’re going to be caught up and transformed into our new bodies on the way up, but those that have already died are with the Lord, but they come back with Christ to the upper atmosphere for this great meeting in the sky, in the clouds, and they’ll be given their new bodies. Do a little rise up from the earth and then we’re gonna join him. Okay. I understand okay cuz I was in class last night And I really didn’t understand at first I you know what he was trying to put it, but I I do remember him saying my teacher I do remember him saying that we will come down and reclaim reclaim our bodies and he said the exact same thing that you said Okay, thanks a lot dr.
Lickard you’re sure welcome to our now and God bless and and a happy new year to all of our listeners. We’re so glad that you’re listening and we hope that you’ll have a wonderful brand new year ahead of you and let’s try to make it a maximum for the Lord however we can. We’re gonna go to Richmond, Virginia and we have Wilburn there online and Wilburn welcome to my blind. Good morning, God bless. Paul talks about he cannot completely control his sin.
sin and my question is do we pick our sin or does Satan pick our sin for us or does it work both ways? Well you know we have a sin nature that my nature desires the sin. It says in James 4 17 to him that knoweth to do good and doeth not to him and to sin. So if you know that you ought to read your Bible every day and you don’t you’re sinning. If you know you ought to attend church regularly and you don’t, you’re sinning.
If you know that you ought to pray every day and you don’t, you’re sinning. If you know there’s someone that’s lost that you need to tell about Christ and you don’t, you’re sinning. And if you know that you ought to give to the Lord and you don’t give anything to God, then you’re sinning and so on and so on. So a lot of sins are simply a neglect to do what we ought to do as a believer that we’re responsible to do.
So, basically, you know, you have are in the driver’s seat and the Bible says you can have victory over sin, but you can sin free because we have that nature. Martin Luther, the great reformer, confessed that he even found that when he preached, he would sin. And that was an interesting revelation. I’ll never forget reading how honest and earthy he was. He said, you know, when he would preach, and by the way, he was such a talented person. He wrote so many wonderful hymns.
Mighty fortresses are God written by Martin Luther. He translated the entire Bible into the German language, quite a bright, bright individual. And he would find himself preaching, he would say, his own testimony. And he says that he would say, Martin, you’re good. In other words, he said, pride would swell up with any as to how good he was and being not only a speaker, a writer, a translator, a hymn writer, and so on. Pride would take over and that sin.
And so he recognized that he could hardly do anything without it being tainted by sin. And you know, Isaiah in chapter 6, you read there about how Isaiah saw the presence of God or was caught up into the presence of God and he says, what was me? I am unclean. I am as an unclean thing. And Isaiah saw his righteousness compared to God’s righteousness as filthy ranks because obviously we have all come short and have fallen short of the glory of God and that’s That’s what it’s all about.
So definitely we need to just constantly rely upon the Lord, be submissive and obedient to the Lord, and God will bless us as we do that. We have Mercedes in Tampa, Florida. Welcome to Bibleline. Hello. Hi, you’re on the air. Oh, this is Dr. Lynchman? Yes, it is. Oh, well, I’m Mercedes, Dr. Lynchman. Yes, ma’am. And I was thinking that Jesus gave us Christmas that has grown man and when he died he gave us the mass of Christ which we should celebrate all of us.
This is much as Christmas. Well what he did is he gave us eternal life through his death at Calvary. When he died he paid our sin debt. So you can celebrate the birth of Christ and go to hell. You must believe he died and paid for your sins and trust that he died for you in order to be safe. Yeah. Now, I have a question I would like for you to answer this for me. Please. It’s Isaiah 18 to.
All right. We’ll take a look at it and see what it says. I need some background on that. I don’t get it. All right. Let’s go to Isaiah chapter 18. Yes, second verse. All right, it says here that verse one, woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia. That said of the ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bull rushes upon the water saying go, ye swift messengers to a nation scattered and peeled to a people terrible from their beginning hitted to.
and they should meet it out and trodden down where the land whose land the rivers have spoiled. And basically he’s talking here about God regathering the dispersed of Israel in the last days and bringing them back to the Promised Land. This is in verse 7, it says, in that time, whenever you read that phrase that time or that day, a reference to the millennial kingdom. And it says, in that time, shall the present be brought under the Lord of Hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from the beginning, hitherto a nation, meted out in trodden underfoot, whose land and so on.
Talking about the regathering of the Jewish people back to the state of Israel in the last days and to the land beyond the rivers of Ethiopia and the day of the regathering of Israel. Many passages talk about this event and this is really what it’s all about there. Thank you, Mercedes, and thank you for calling in today to Bibleline. Charles in Texas calls in just now and leaves a question. Was Abraham a Gentile or Jew? And the answer he was a Gentile.
He was asked across from Iraq, from the land of Ur to the Promised Land of Israel and the word Hebrew means to cross over. So he was the first Hebrew, but actually the first Jew was his great-great-great-great grandson Abraham had Isaac, Isaac had Jacob, Jacob had Judah and Judah technically was This is the first June. That tribe of Judah became the largest tribe and the slang for Judah was Jew and that got hung on all of the descendants of Abraham.
It really didn’t happen until the Babylonian captivity, but technically the first Jew was Judah and Abraham was the first Hebrew. Thank you, Charles, in Texas and we are about up on our break time here and we’ll go to break. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bible. I hope you’ll keep praying. for Bibleline. Thank you all who gave Christmas gifts to Bible and to help us out We are going to go to the phone lines here and we have Kyle down in Sarasota, Florida and Kyle, welcome to Bibleline. Hey Doc, I’m still thinking about the angels. You threw out some pretty amazing stuff that I never realized and how without even looking at it, we just take for granted that maybe they had halos and wings and they sang and we just But if this amazing how the Bible will break it down Actually the way it is but I’m still wondering about the cherub.
I asked you about this before the cherub and the seraphs You hit our different creatures those are a very limited number. I don’t think if I were just really Guess wildly there would be no more than maybe a couple of dozen But you only read about four for example in Revelation chapter four where it says here that He sees round about the throne four living creatures. And it says they’re full of eyes and so on, and they do have wings.
And there’s only four cherubs mentioned in Revelation 4 about the throne of God. And then we have the Serabs and Isaiah sees them in Isaiah chapter 6. But there are a very limited number of people. The angels, as we think about angels, are innumerable, the Bible says. And these are special creatures and are not angels. And so the problem is that some in their books categorize them as angels and of course they have wings and I think maybe that’s part of the error of angels having wings.
But when you read about the typical angel that we read about in the Bible, they always appears men and they don’t have wings and they don’t have haloes. They’re mistaken for men oftentimes. You know when Abraham was out there in Genesis chapter 18 and the noon day in the shadow of his tent He saw three men approaching him he said but it turned out one was actually Jesus I believe a pre and carnated appearance of of Christ there in the Old Testament the other two were the angels that went on to destroy Sodom and yet They looked like all three men and they sat down they all three had a meal with with Abraham.
Can you imagine preparing a meal and serving two angels and Jesus at your table? That must have been great. It must have been incredible. Sorry, we will get the idea that they would like the cherubs or whatever were little baby angels. Artists, I believe, and I know I’ve been to Rome, the Roman Catholic churches with their art and so on. You enter in the St. Peter’s Basilica and as soon as you get inside you see these enormous sculptures of baby angels.
They’re just as cute as can be. They’re pudgy, well fed, little teeny wings spreading out of their shoulders. And it’s artistically just gorgeous and beautiful and very proportionate to the building, but yet it’s just not true, it’s not biblical. That’s amazing. Because I was born and raised in the Catholic education system, the nuns and everything, and when I read the Bible, I was just floored with the differences from the way these nuns who were very, very intelligent people, thinking, how could they see one thing in the Bible, saying something totally different.
It just was amazing to me. Amazing to me as well. I was raised in a Protestant church and the same thing happened to me and when I saw what the Bible really had to say, I said to myself, somebody’s wrong here because the Bible says this and my church teaches the other and I said, either my church is right and the Bible is wrong or the Bible is right and my church is wrong and I had to make that choice.
Alright, thanks Doc. Kyle, you’re very welcome. I have a happy new year. Thank you. You too. Bye. Bye. All right. That was Kyle down in Sarasota, Florida, south of Tampa. We have Mark in Tampa, Florida calling in now with an off air question. He’s talking about Ezekiel 28 and how Satan was a chair. Now, I’m sure that Mark, you’re going to say that Satan was an angel. and the cherubs do have wings, you’re absolutely right. But Satan, of course, is not an angel, angel either.
The word angel means messenger. And Satan is a messenger of light, the Bible tells us. Of course, he brings false information, but it’s not the light of God’s Word. But he wasn’t needed, cherub. And so you’re right about that, and I hope that if you had a question there, I don’t know what it was, but basically Ezekiel 28 presents Christ as the anointed cherub. And he had been put in charge, I believe, of the planet Earth and over all of God’s angels in the original creation.
And then he later, of course, fell and tried to lead a rebellion against God and overthrow heaven and was judged and cast back down to the earth. But he also is not one of the typical number that we call angels. Kathy in parish Florida. Parish is just south of Tampa. And Kathy in parish Florida leaves an off air question. She says, I heard you say before that the Roman Catholic Church changed the 10th commandment. I’m looking for that in the Roman Catholic Bible.
Well, you don’t see it in the Roman Catholic Bible. You can find it in the Roman Catholic Catechism. In the Roman Catholic Catechism it says, what are the 10 commandments? And then it lists 10 commandments. But the second commandment about making idols and worshiping idols and graven images is gone. And so in order to give you 10 commandments they take the 10th commandment, split it and make two commandments. So if you are a Roman Catholic you ought to read what the Catechism says which has to to be an absolute deliberate attempt to deceive the Catholic people who read the catechism by taking away the commandment about graven images and idols and praying to and worshiping those idols, taking that out and then giving them ten commandments so they think it’s a slight of hand trick.
It’s no doubt a deliberate deception for sure. So the Catholic Bible needs to be read, but the Catholics never read their Bible so they don’t notice the difference. But if you read the Catechism, that’s where it’s at. Cathy, thank you for that question and take a look at your Roman Catechism. It’s kind of boring, but it’s got it in there and it has a question, what are the 10 commandments? And it deliberately takes away the second commandment and gives you two out of the tenth.
Bob in Tampa, Florida calls in and says, where are the angels in heaven prior to the judgment of the earth from Satan’s rebellion on the earth? And the answer is no. They lived here on the original earth and angels never did live in heaven but they lived here on the earth and a third of them left the earth to try to overthrow heaven and God cast them back down to the earth and those are the judged angels and those are the demons we read about in the New Testament.
We have Alan in Seminole, Florida, and an Alan. Welcome to Bible In. Hey, you’re on the air. Yes, I have sure and salvation sure in Jane 26 that’s a wonderful verse and it really does give us a good visual on that. You know death in the Bible means separation. So as the body without the spirit is dead, it’s separated the spirit leaves the body and if I were to die right now that’s physical death. You could come up and and.
And I poked my body and it wouldn’t respond. You could try to take my pulse or it would be none. You could try to look for signs of breath, there would be none, there would be no heartbeat and so on. But yet I’d be still very much alive, Alan, because I have everlasting life and the Bible tells me absent from the body present with the Lord. So physical death is that being absent from the body and being present with the Lord.
And when physical death happens, then you can no longer communicate in this physical world with your relatives, your friends and so on. So if you wanted to talk to me right after I die physically, you couldn’t do it because although I’m very much alive, I need my body to be able to demonstrate my life here in the physical realm. In the same way, Faith Without Works is dead. In other words, if you don’t have any works, it doesn’t mean you don’t have faith, but But you don’t have a vehicle to display your faith, like your body displays the life of your soul and spirit.
You need your works to display the fact that you have faith to people in the real world. So it’s really saying here that not that you don’t have any faith. Some people wrongly say faith without works is dead. That means if you don’t have any works, you have a dead faith. That means you have no faith. That means you’re not saved. It’s not saying that at all. Verse 26 really makes it clear that as the body without the Spirit is dead, my Spirit will live forever and ever.
And if I die, my Spirit is absent the body, present with the Lord. But I can’t show you in the physical realm my life, the fact that I’m alive anymore, because I don’t have a body to display my life here in the physical realm. And so the same thing is true about my works. If I don’t have works, I can’t show you my faith. That’s what it says in James 2 18. A man says, I’ll show you my faith by my works.
But he says, show me your faith without your works. You can’t do it. It’s impossible. So we need works in order to be able to have an impact and earn rewards in this world. But rewards are based on works. And James is talking about rewards, not about how to be saved. So you got to have faith? You’re dead, right? No, no, no, it’s not saying that. It’s saying that if you don’t have any works that you’re not going to have any rewards in heaven.
He says that you are not going to have an impact on anybody else. Give you an illustration. When I was a young believer at the University of Florida, I said, Lord, boy, I’m living in a heathen environment in this dormitory. Would you please send somebody to win these people to Christ? Lord, I pray for the salvation of the people of in my dorm. Well, nobody ever came. And finally, I realized that maybe God wanted me to do that. Because here I was living in the dorm.
I knew the language. I knew the customs. I knew how to be saved. And so I began to tell people in my dorm about how to be saved. And I led a lot of people to Christ in the dormitory there at the University of Florida when I was a student. But obviously, until I did something and had my works displayed until I opened my mouth and actually told guys about Christ, I didn’t have any results. And that’s what James is talking about.
In other words, if I’m going to impact the world around me, I need works. But it has nothing to do with your salvation. James is saying, you’re going to be judged one day for what you’ve done with your privilege of being able to serve the Lord here in this world. And he’s not talking about whether you’re saved or not. In verse 14 he says, what does it profit? The word profit means reward or gain or what you deserve for what you have done with your works.
What does it profit by brethren? He is talking to believers. If you man says he has faith and doesn’t have works, can faith save him? He is not talking in there about hell. He is talking about can it save you from the consequences of the judgment of the state of Christ when all believers will stand and give an account for what they have done since they have been saved. So verse 12 is a key verse in James 2. It says, so speak ye and so do ye as those that are going to be judged.
By the law of liberty, that is the law by which Christians are judged at the judgment of Christ, the result will be reward or loss of reward for eternity for the believer. When I understood that, I said, Lord, I need to get busy. So I started serving the Lord and I’m very early on about a year after I got saved because I didn’t want to be a zero in heaven with no rewards. But if you don’t have any works, you’ll still get a heaven if you’ve trusted Christ, but you won’t have any rewards there you’ll be bottom on the totem pole i also read that uh…
and his wife is that true now that’s a slam uh… there are those who don’t like skill field and they just uh… obviously uh… got their facts right he was a lawyer when he he was a lawyer and then he got saved you know the lawyers can get saved too uh… i i just i read i read i read that he He cheated on his wife and left. Well, that’s unfortunate if you’re reading that. I’ve read some things out there that are just not true.
Get on the Google and look out some of the good sources. You’ll find some wonderful things about Dr. Schofield. But he definitely was an unsaved man and then got saved. and then he used his wonderful skills to be at, he actually just brought together some great Bible teachers and put the notes together in that Bible and it’s been a great Bible, I really love it. Okay, thanks. Okay, Ellen, and don’t believe everything you read on the internet, that is for sure.
And we have Brad in Clearwater, Florida, And he says, was Enoch a representation of the rapture and the answer is yes. I believe he was caught up without dying prior to the flood of Noah, which is a picture of the tribulation period. And so we’re going to be caught up before the tribulation. And every believer will be caught up while we’re alive. Well, disappearance says later they went looking for Enoch and they could not find him because he was gone.
The Lord just caught him up to be in the air. This is my blend of the phone number here, by the way, is 1-800-576-3771, 1-800-576-3771. We have our teenagers from my church at a camp this week. Pray for them as we have seen a number of them get saved and we hope many of them will dedicate their life to serve the Lord and go on to be greatly used of the Lord.
While they’re still in school and with their friends, but after that maybe some might go on to serve the Lord in whatever vocation they have, or some might even go into ministry, wouldn’t that be great? So pray for the youth camp that we have going on right now. I had an opportunity to speak yesterday at some of the meetings in our youth camp and that was exciting to be with the young people. We have Frank calling in from Clearwater Florida and we’re going to talk to Frank.
Frank is you’re on the air. I have a dial tone for Frank so that’s apparently not Frank. Let’s see if he’s on the other line here Frank. Are you there? Yeah. Okay. You’re on the air. Go ahead Frank you’re on the air and the Frank is no longer there. So I don’t have anybody here on the air right now. So call in, we’ve got more calls. Let me see if I got Sam. I’ve got a lot of lights lit up here.
And Sam, welcome to Bibleline you on the air. Oh, pretty good. How you doing this morning? I enjoy all y’all just proving to listen, talking to you. I got a question and I also got a comment. And when it comes to like a Christmas tree, when Jesus got hung on the cross, many years ago, the tree, which one of the first the Christmas tree is the home to cross or either when people start wishing which and you said picket locky said the pick and date so when they wish one was free when you got home across on the tree of on the pick and date i’m not sure if i understand the question but uh…
christ was uh… not born december twenty-fifths that was the birthday of bail and i was celebrated you know for ages before christ ever came Jeremiah chapter 10 written way back hundreds and hundreds of years before Christ ever came tells about the Christmas tree, about how they would cut it down, bring it home and nail it down and then decorate it with silver and gold. And that was a pagan way of celebrating the birthday of Baal. When Constantine came along 300 years after Christ, he declared the whole world to be Christian, that observance continued, but they simply called it the birthday of Christ.
So the tree, the celebration of a birthday in December predated Christ by hundreds and hundreds of years. All right. Thank you. Thank you, Sam and with Sam in Lakeland. We now have Frank in Clearwater, Frank. You’re on the air. Oh, good morning, Doctor. mentioned earlier and I just wanted to clarify something you said you said that you gave a list of sins in a Christian’s life like prayer. Well that’s just one area obviously there are transgressions of God’s laws if you lie you cheat you steal you commit adultery those are all sins but sometimes we don’t think about the sins that we commit that are simply responsibilities that we fail to fulfill I remember as a little boy my dad coming home from work one day and and he said son you’re in trouble I said why dad I haven’t done anything he said that’s your problem you were supposed to clean up your room
You’re supposed to help your mom with some of the chores and you didn’t do anything So I got punished and I realized I learned real quick you get trouble for doing nothing and Sometimes that’s we’re in trouble with God because we sin in not doing what we should do as a believer I’m just questioning because sometimes people can get the idea that they are pleasing God by their works. And I don’t pray because I have to pray. I pray because I love to pray.
I don’t read the Bible because someone I hear someone say, we should read the Bible the day. I mean, I read it because I love the Bible. Amen. I agree with you. I want to understand. And there are different things that motivate different people. And the highest level of motivation is clearly love. And sometimes it takes some believers some time to get to that point. And they might read their Bible because they feel like, well, I’ve got to read my Bible and they do it.
But you know, you can fall in love with the Bible and then love to read the Bible like I do because I want to and I love it and I enjoy it. But sometimes, you know, the Bible gives us about five or six at least different ways that God motivates us to serve Him. And the highest level of service is really out of a heart of love. And you’re absolutely right. And I hope everybody arrives at that point like you are talking about Frank because that’s where real joy comes in.
And one other comment. I know a lot of people call in and they always bring up the subject of losing their salvation. And I believe, I mean, I don’t mean to be cruel, but I believe that’s ignorance on an apart of their, they don’t have the knowledge, but Paul says, I wouldn’t have you ignorant brotherhood. I mean, the Bible clearly says that we’re justified by faith. And you know, through grace, I mean, over and over and over again, we are told that we be a dead with Christ risen with Him.
I mean, if all these things are true, and I believe that we glorify God by believing these things. And when we think about sin in our lives, because all the Holy Spirit will convict us about sin, and that’s how we’re transformed from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. But to think that we’re justified by anything we do, even if it’s reading the Bible and we’re going to church, then we do. That in itself is sin.
Amen. You’re absolutely right. Frank, thank you and a happy New Year to you. I thank you and happy New Year and I enjoyed listening to your broadcast. Alright, thank you. That was Frank in Clearwater, Florida. We have Ruth, but we don’t have much time. Ruth, if you have a quick question, we can get it in maybe. I just wanted to know, in your opinion, what is the closest to the original Bible that’s out there to read? Well, you know, the King James is a wonderful translation.
It’s not perfect. But it’s a very, very good translation from the original languages in the English. A lot of people never read the preface to the King James, but it was a large body of men that were involved. And it was a direct translation from the original languages into the English. And it’s very good. It’s written in a fifth or sixth grade level, which is remarkable in itself. Gatorio, keep looking up. Jesus is coming. We’ll be back again tomorrow.
