If Bibleline is not being broadcast in their area, then ask them to listen, see of the internet at BibleLineMinistries.org. Join us for Dr. Lynch from teaching for today as we turn to the Book of Matthew chapter 20. We find it says here in verse 16, so the last shall be first and the first shall be last. I think there’s a couple meanings here. But one is true, is that us and the church age, which are last after those Christ is speaking to here, are going to be judged first, aren’t we?

At the Judgement seat of Christ, which comes at the Rapture, we’re going to be judged and given our rewards prior to the Old Testament saints that won’t be judged and given their rewards until after the end of the tribulation period. So we are last after them, but yet we’re going to be judged first at the Judgement seat of Christ, And then after the seven years of tribulation, the Old Testament saints and tribulation saints will be judged and given their rewards.

The last phrase for many are called and fewer chosen. When we talk about salvation, God invites everybody to be saved, but He chooses to save only those that believe. So many are invited to be saved, but only those that believe are chosen and are saved. Verse 17, Jesus then going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way and and they said to them, and now this is the third or fourth time we’ve seen this here in the past couple chapters, Behold we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall be betrayed under the chief priest and to the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock and discourage, and to crucify him, and the third day he shall rise again.

The crucifixion was certainly no surprise. He tells us the disciples again and again. This is what’s next on the agenda. that he would be crucified. And I don’t know if it sunk in because it doesn’t seem that it did, but he told them, and I don’t think they wanted to hear this, so they kind of screened it out. In chapter 20 and verse 20 it says, then came to him, the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons. Who are they?

James and John, two of the disciples. Worshiping Christ and desiring a certain thing of him. He said unto her, what willth thou? What do you want? She said unto him, this is all I want. Grant, these two sons may sit the one on your right hand and the other on your left hand in your kingdom. She didn’t want much, did she? Here was a woman who wanted the best for her sons and she boldly comes right up and says, look, I want the right hand and the left hand spots in your kingdom to be given to my two sons.

Give them the top jobs. And notice what Jesus said. He said, you know not what you ask. Are you able to drink of the cup that I should drink of him? baptize with a baptism that I’m baptized with and they say that the sons say we are able. And he said unto them, you shall indeed drink of my cup and be baptized with a baptism that I’m baptized with. But to sit on my right hand on my left is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

So we learn here that they were to experience what is called the baptism of death. That Jesus would have the wrath of God come upon him and he would die. And they also would experience the wrath of Christ’s enemies against them, and they would be crucified or die or martyred for their faith. And so they both died for their faith. And that was what is called here the baptism of death. death. They experienced in a smaller way what Christ experienced for us and that the hatred toward Christ came against his disciples and they were hated and they were killed and they experienced this baptism that he was talking about.

But as far as sitting on the right hand and left, Christ didn’t commit to them. He said that is going to be decided by the Father. And when the ten other disciples heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brothers, James and John. They were upset. But then Jesus says this. He called them unto him and he said, you know that the princes of the Gentiles exercised dominion over them and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

But it shall not be so among you. Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant. And I I think that’s another one of the lessons we learned in the first part of this chapter, and that is the one who had a servant’s heart, who was willing to labor, not expecting a certain contractual amount for what he did would be the greatest and would be rewarded the most.

And Christ is our example in verse 28, even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life, a ransom for many. Think about that. his life for us. And we also ought to be servants and have a servant attitude and be willing to live for him and serve him. And those who do that will be the greatest and reward of the greatest when Christ comes back with his rewards. Verse 29, And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him and behold two men sitting by the wayside when they heard Jesus pass by.

They cried out saying, have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And the multitude rebuked them that they should hold their peace, but they cried them more, saying, have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And Jesus stood still, called them and said, What will ye that I should do unto you? And they said unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. So Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight, and they followed him.

I marked this in my Bible because I don’t see this happening today in the modern healing movement. I don’t think you see it either. I have three blind people in this church. If I knew somebody out there could give them sight, I’d put them in my car and drive them wherever it would take in the country or put them on a plane and fly them with me and get them their sight back. Wouldn’t you? But you know and I know that the modern healers can’t do that.

Also, there’s an imagined contradiction here. In this account it says, as they departed from Jericho, you see the story taking place. In another account it says, as they entered Jericho, critics of the Bible have said, see the Bible contradicts itself. But there is no contradictions because there are two Jericho’s. There’s the ancient Jericho that was destroyed. Remember when Joshua marched around with the people seven days and they tutored the horns and down the walls came? the battle of Jericho.

Well, the remains of the ancient city is there to this day. But then there’s the new Jericho a little bit further away. And so both are right. As he departed from one Jericho and as he entered the other, this is when this story happened. I was in Jerusalem, and I always like to see our people that travel with me see what it’s like to live in Israel. So I took them to one of these, like it’s like a super Walmart.

It’s like a big department store. 8 or 10 storey building and we went in and they had furniture on one floor and clothing and then down in the basement they had a big supermarket and fish market and you know meat market all the canned goods and groceries just like any other store here in the States. And so I’m touring my little group around and showing them everything so they could see what it might be like to live in Israel.

So I said I could live, I could live over here, I could do this because it’s pretty much very modern like it is here. So anyway, we’re coming over to the meat counter and here’s this guy with hair out and a big beard that went down like this. And as he is approaching me, he says, hey Hank, how you doing? Who is this guy coming at me? Well, he had taken classes from me and he was over there on an archaeological dig.

Anyway, we got to talk in and came over to my hotel later that night and we talked more. And he was coming back and I said, well, come over to the church and we’ll have you speak. And he spoke on this problem right here. This is called Imagine Contradiction between the blind men being healed on the way to Jericho and also on the departure from Jericho and talked about it’s not a contradiction at all. Anyway, it was kind of easy.

But I never thought in my wildest dream I’d meet somebody I would know in the shopping area headed toward the meat counter down in the basement of a huge shopping place in Jerusalem. But anyway, this I always think of him when I think of this story because he gave a nice message on that and people really took it in because of his spending years as a young student archaeologist, he was wanting to resolve the problems that critics of the Bible had supposedly brought up.

There are no contradictions in the Bible, and generally it’s our lack of the geography or the circumstances or something else or not reading the passages carefully that cause people to imagine seeming contradictions. There just aren’t any. And you need to back off and say, I need a little more time. I’m in a little more research before I would stick my foot in my mouth and say that the the Bible is an error because the Bible is not. You’re listening to Bible Eye, a teaching ministry that’s dedicated to delivering the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

There are many items available from our resource center, such as Dr. Hankel-Instrum’s DVD teachings on the topics of Repentance, Faith Without Works, and the Rapture. in addition to many others when you call 1-800-576-3771. Now we’re going to take a break from our teaching to listen to Dr. Lindstrom answering questions from callers and then we’ll rejoin today’s teaching. We have Helen in Dunedin, Florida. Helen, welcome to Bibleline. Hi. Could you tell me which are the doctrinal books and I’ll hang up and listen?

Okay, most of the epistles are really the doctrinal books of the New Testament. And to get grounded, you need to read the books like Romans and Corinthians, Ephesians and Galatians and Philippians, Colossians and so on. Those are the great doctrinal books. But any of the New Testament epistles are really going to give you good, solid doctrine. The four gospels are pretty much a history of the life of Christ, and the book of Acts is a history of the early church, but it’s not until you get into the epistles of the apostles that you get good, solid doctrine.

And so that’s where I would recommend you go. Hopefully that helps, and thank you so much for your question. We now have Brad in Clearwater, Florida. Brad, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Good morning, Pastor Lenzter. I have a question for you. I know that a new day starts at 12 a.m. because of what Jesus Christ had on the cross for us. And I was reading Genesis 1 through 5. And my question on Genesis 1 through 5 is what would have been the start of a new day on the evening hour?

I’ll hang up and listen to your response by radio. Well, obviously the day as the Jewish people still count the day is from sundown to sundown. So that starts the day. We count our days from midnight to midnight, but biblically the days are from sundown to sundown. The Jewish people still count their day that way. On Friday at sundown, the Sabbath begins, and you’ll find the synagogue parking lots are filled up as people go to synagogue. And then Saturday at sundown, the Sabbath ends, and the Jewish people go back to normal life.

And that’s ever been since the book of Genesis. It hasn’t changed at all. I used to live in Miami, Florida as a little boy. I had a paper route. And when I would try to collect my route every week on Friday, if I got to a Jewish home after sundown, they wouldn’t pay me. And I really was very irritated about that. That bothered me. But then I learned that it was a Sabbath and they couldn’t do any monetary transactions on the Sabbath.

And so I had to either get there early Friday before sundown, or I’d have to get there Saturday after sundown when the Sabbath was over. And so I learned very early on about 12 or 13 years of age about the Sabbath. And I didn’t want to ruin my Saturday night plans as a little boy. So I tried to get my routes collected on Friday afternoon early. I knew which homes were Jewish because I learned pretty quickly about that. I got there before sundown, then I went and collected the rest of my route.

That was my little job that helped me through a… I think seventh grade. Anyway, that’s the way it’s always been. The Jewish people count their day from sundown to sundown. Thank you Brad. That was Brad in Clearwater, Florida. We’re going to go to Steve in Largo, Florida. Steve, welcome to Bibleline. You are on the air. Good morning pastor. I have pretty much a two-part question. One of them has to deal with the age of accountability. But before that, I believe that when we are born, we come out of the womb, spirit to be dead, and that we must be born again.

And so I have read a book by Dr. Alojian McLean, who believed that in Romans chapter seven when Paul said that when the law came, that he died that at that moment he died spiritually and had to be born again. But I don’t believe that we were ever spiritually live until God saved us and we are born again. I wonder your thoughts on that. Are we born spiritually dead? And if so, what do you believe about the age of accountability?

Okay, actually I believe we’re born spiritually dead. I think it’s very clear, Ephesians 2.1, that says that new, heavy, quickened or made alive or resurrected who were dead in trespasses and sins. Every unsafe person is born spiritually dead and will not have spiritual life until they become born again. We do believe children under the age of accountability will be saved if they die prior to that point in their life. And I’ve searched for a long time and I’ve heard lots of different opinions about the age of accountability, but I finally found the answer in the book of Jonah of all places.

In the very last verse of the book of Jonah in chapter 4, it talks there about Jonah, you know, having a little pity party there. He was kind of disappointed that God didn’t judge Nineveh. But God says there that he had a hundred and twenty thousand children there in Nineveh. That didn’t know their right hand from their left hand. I believe that is the age when a person becomes accountable. By the way, I know some adults that can’t tell their left hand from their right hand, so I don’t know if they’re ever been accountable.

I’m teasing for us. But you know, that’s a great way to determine it because it allows for the different development of different children. Some develop more quickly than others and some are slower. And so at whatever age they can discern their left hand from their right hand, they become accountable and can trust Jesus as their Savior. But prior to that, they would go to heaven after that, they become accountable to trust Christ. But you’re right. In John 524, a wonderful verse and one that I love, it says, Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, has everlasting life, shall not come into condemnation, and here it is, Steve, is passed from death unto life.

So you’re spiritually dead until you hear the words of Christ, the gospel message, and believe on Christ. And when you do, you receive eternal life, you have the promise that you’ll never come condemnation and that you are past from death unto life. And that’s John 524. It’s a great one, but I believe the book you’re reading is wrong and that Paul’s not saying that in Romans chapter 7 and that we’re all spiritually dead when we come into this world and need to have the new birth, which is what Christ talked to me today, it’s about.

And when you trust Christ, you have that new birth. You’re very welcome and thank you for calling in. Steve in Largo, Florida. Hopefully you are a saved person. Hopefully you know where you would go if you were to die. If you’re not certain, then chances are maybe you haven’t understood the plan of salvation because the plan of salvation is that it’s finished. It’s a done deal. Once you trust Christ, you are saved and you are saved forever. Romans 5-1 says, therefore being justified, it really should read, therefore having been justified.

Past tense, by faith. We have present tense peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. So we’re justified, declared righteous in God’s court of law, by faith. And it says here to the Romans that Paul is writing to, that they already had been justified when they placed their faith than Jesus Christ, and as a result they presently possessed peace with God. You know, once you trust Christ, you’re saved from that moment on, forever and ever and ever. And as a result, your future is secure.

Later in chapter 8 of Romans it says in verse 38, I am persuaded. That neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present or things to come nor heath nor depth nor any other creation shall be able to separate me in the first person. It’s a separate me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord so once you become saved nothing can separate you. death, life, your future. Any powers that there might be in this world or outside of this world.

The Bible says once you become saved nothing can ever separate you from the love of God. Once you trust Christ you are His and His forever. If you haven’t trusted Christ yet you need to just say Lord I’m a sinner. And we all are but I trust Jesus Christ right now is my only hope of heaven. I trust Jesus Christ that he died and shed his blood was buried and rose again from the dead. In the moment you do, God, up in heaven, saves you.

And I pray that you do that. Then make that second decision to serve him. That’s where rewards come in and God’s blessings. Ed, in 10 before it calls in, what kind of works will be burned up as wood hay stubble at the judgment of the state of Christ? I believe almost anything done for self. that are not going to count for eternity, but things that are done for the Lord, I think any spiritual type of activity will be bringing about rewards in heaven.

The Bible talks about giving a glass of cold water in the name of Jesus, and that’s going to be rewarded. So there are lots of righteous acts and things that we can do, but there are five crowns that will definitely be rewarded, teaching the word of God, leading souls to Christ, being a Christian who has endurance or patience through trials and so on and so on. These are all going to be rewarded. So Ed, you can start earning rewards, but if you have just built your life around yourself and about earthly treasures, they’ll probably be burned up and you’ll have no rewards in heaven.

In Sarasota it calls in, she says, did God create evil according to Isaiah 457. That’s an interesting verse. It’s a bad translation. The word evil there really means the consequences for sin. In other words, it really is translated into other places, adversity, suffering and so on and so on. Things that would be accompanying evil. He did not create evil, but he created the consequences for evil. So if you sin, there is a consequence for that. Dr. Schofield in the Schofield Bible has an excellent note that points that out.

He points out that the Hebrew word is translated sorrow, wretched, wretchedness, adversary, afflictions, calamities, but never translated sin. So God created evil only in the sense that he made wretchedness and sorrow, etc., to be the sure fruits of sin. Good answer. God did not create evil, but he did create the consequences for evil. So hopefully that helped you out to me. God in Charles City, Virginia calls in and he says, what is a prophetess? Are there any today, as a lot of them claim to be?

No, there aren’t any today. The gift of prophecy ceased according to 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verses 8 through 10. So the gift of a prophet is gone, male or female. So there are no prophetesses today, but there were in the Old Testament times, and there will be again in the millenniums, but right now there are zero, none at all. To pledge your support for Bibleline, Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771.

That’s 1-800-576-3771. Well, let’s get into our Bibles. And if you’re ready, this would be a good time to open your Bible as well. We’re going to turn now to 2 Corinthians and this will be in chapter 5 where the Bible gives us this wonderful promise in verse 8 where it says, absent from the body, present with the Lord. What a great thing that is to know. When you die as a believer, Second Corinthians 5a, you’ll be absent from the body, you’ll be present with the Lord.

Isn’t that wonderful to know? There’s no waiting place, there’s no holding place. There is no purgatory, that’s right. Purgatory is a man-inavated doctrine, it’s not in anybody’s Bible. If somebody says there’s a purgatory, say show me in the Bible, they cannot show you a verse, there is no verse. In fact, it’s contrary to the doctrines of the Bible, because the only place sin could be cleansed or taken away or washed or purged is at the cross of Calvary. That’s right.

So you could work and pay and sweat and whatever, and it would never take away your sin. There’s only one thing that could take away your sin that’s the blood of Christ. The hymn writer got it right when he said, what can wash away my sin? And the answer is the blood of Christ. but the blood. Nothing but the blood. Let me get sidetracked for just a minute and give you a great verse. Hebrews chapter 1, if there is a purgatory, here’s how the Bible describes that purgatory.

It’s Hebrews chapter 1 verse 3. It talks about Jesus Christ here. It says, who being the brightness of his glory, you know, Jesus is God. And he’s got who took on human flesh and he is the brightness of God’s glory. And then it says the expressed image of his person. So here we have the exact image of God’s person. God revealed himself in human flesh in the person of Christ. So he’s the brightness of God’s glory. He’s the express image of God’s person.

Hebrews 1, 3. And I’m holding all things by the word of his power. Christ holds all things up and together. And it says here, when he had by himself purged our sins, there’s that word purged our sins. Our sins were purged by Christ and that happened at Calvary. There is no separate place called purgatory where your sins can be cleansed. Purgatory really means by definition a place of purging, a place of cleansing. And the only place that your sins can be cleansed isn’t the cross.

It’s only through that blood that Christ shed at the cross that your sins can be purged. What an interesting verse this is Hebrews 1-3 says, who when by himself, when he had by himself, purged our sins. Interesting. We don’t get any part of it because we couldn’t purge our sins. There’s nothing we could do to take away one sin that we’ve ever committed. And so Jesus by himself purged our sins by his death. This one, you see, he’s not any, just any person that came along here.

According to Hebrews 1-3, he is God. And it says here in verse 3 that he’s the brightness of God’s glory. He’s the express image of God’s person that he upholds all things by his power. And then it says, when he had by himself purged our sins, Jesus took every sin that you would ever commit, past, present, and future. Every sin that anyone in the human race would commit. And he laid all of them upon himself on the cross, and Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty for the sin that you and I have committed.

And he purged our sins by his death and shed blood and was buried and then rose again from the dead and he’s alive forevermore. So if there’s a purgatory, it’s Calvary. There is no place where you can purge your sins. Jesus by himself purgences on the cross. And when you trust in his finished work, you become saved. Well, anyway, 2 Corinthians 5, 8, where we began, tells us when we as believers die, We are absent from the body and we’re present with the Lord.

That’s right. It is instantaneous So you don’t go to some holding place. There is no purgatory. There is no limbo. These are all men invented doctrines That’s right You cannot possibly go to purgatory and what is sad is that people are being extorted over the doctrine of purgatory They’re told that they can pay money and have masses said and candles lighted and it will help get their loved ones out of purgatory sooner if you would just keep giving that money to have prayer said and masses performed in the name of your loved one.

There is no purgatory. This is the magic land. This is a fiction land. This is totally not supported by anything in the Bible. In any case, we’re so glad that you’re listening today and I hope you’ll be ready now for the second half hour. We’re going to rejoin stations that have been on break. Please make plans to join us and open your Bible as we also present in-depth studies covering a variety of biblical topics. Now let’s return to our question and answer segment and then you’ll hear more Bible teaching from Dr.

Hank Lindstrom. Anonymous color from Riverview Florida calls in and she says is our circumstance where a Christian wife can divorce a non-Christian husband who is against her practicing her faith, especially when it affects the children. Well, the Bible does talk about this kind of situation and it’s in 1st Corinthians 7 and it doesn’t talk about divorce but it talks about separation and that might have to take place if you can’t get along on that issue. It talks about children being saved and it talks about if possible, if the partner is willing to stay, you ought to stay with the marriage in order that you might win that partner to Christ and also the children, which is a very powerful thing, but it doesn’t talk about the right to divorce.

But we’ll be praying for you. I know it’s a tough situation and certainly you want the kids to know the Lord of the Savior and you want to be able to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord as it says in Ephesians chapter 6. We have Matthew in Spring Hill Florida. Matthew, welcome to Bibleline your On the Air. Hey Hank, do you believe that when the rapture happens that the children that are under that age of accountability will be raptured out and what about children in the womb?

You asked the tough questions there. That’s not fair. I’d nobody likes the answer I give, but I don’t think children under the age of accountability will be raptured, but I do believe if they were to perish that they would go to heaven. What’s happening in the rapture is life will continue on. And if he did rapture the children, then all of the children would go of unsaved and saved alike, he certainly would not be a respecter of persons and just take the children of saved people.

But life will go on just as it did in other times of judgment on the earth. But this is just simply an evacuation of believers. And so unbelievers will be left behind, and I believe children will be left behind. And that’s scary, I know, because if you’re a parent or a grandparent and you’re a small children involved. Boy, you can just really just get torn up thinking about the fact that they could be left behind. But my answer is this.

In Genesis 18 verse 25 it says, show not the God of all the earth do right. He’s going to do the right thing. And there in the context is talking about the judgment upon Sodom. And you know Sodom was totally destroyed and Gamora and the other cities of the plane. Only the believers were evacuated out and all the children there were all killed. But the beautiful thing is that those children were saved because they’re the only ones in that whole area that were saved other than Lot and his wife and his two daughters.

They were evacuated. But the inhabitants of the the plain were all destroyed, everyone, men, women and children, but yet those children that died and perished in the destruction of Sodom Gabor, under the age of accountability went to heaven. So you might want to think about that and hopefully that’s helpful. Matthew, I hope that helps. Okay, yeah, that’s helpful. If I could complicate it just a little bit further, with Noah and the flood, you know, Only 8 being saved is that mean that?

We continue to live on and you think that the children that perished in the flood there? Absolutely, and they went to heaven as well. And the wonderful thing is today with all these abortions, which is such a tragic thing that’s happening, all those aborted children will be in heaven. Isn’t that great? So at least we have something that we can smile about with the abortions that are taking place that these children will all be in heaven. Amen. Could I ask another question?

Sure. Can you talk a little bit about the gift of discerning spirits? Well, yeah. If you look over in 1 John chapter 4, it talks about that. It says, dearly beloved. It says, don’t be gullible. Don’t believe everything that you hear for many false teachers. They’re gone out into the world. And one of the first things you want to do is find out, as it says in verses 2 and 3, is do the people that you’re talking to that you’re discerning whether their spirit is of the Lord or of Satan do they believe that Jesus Christ is God who took on flesh and so immediately the cults you know they go off your radar real quick the Jones witnesses do not believe that Jesus Christ is God who took on the flesh the Bible says this is the this is of the spirit of anacrist this

This is not of God because obviously the Holy Spirit plainly declares in it says it in Corinthians that Jesus Christ is God who took on flesh. And if you deny that doctrine, then you’re not receiving obviously or espousing what the Holy Spirit, the author of scripture is teaching about Christ and that’s a false spirit. And so it warns us there about testing the spirits and the way we test them is against the Bible. Bible you know, the more familiar you are with sound Bible teaching, the more easily you’ll recognize those that are false and recognize that they don’t come in line with the Scripture, and that’s when you reject them.

Hebrews, chapter 4, verse 12 is a great verse where it says the Word of God is living in powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, and it talks about how that it is one that divides and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. So the Word of God allows you to discern and to recognize false teachings. And I believe that you’ve got to get into the Word to do that. I like Isaiah 8, 20, a favorite of mine that says, if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them.

That’s pretty plain, isn’t it? If they speak not according to this word, that is the word of God. It is because there is no light in them. Matthew, hope it helps. Yes, sir. Thank you. You’re welcome. And thank you for calling in that was Matthew in Spring Hill, Florida. It’s amazing today how many things are practiced by different churches that are not biblical. And again, that’s goes back to Matthew’s question there about how do you discern the spirit? You have to check out what you’re being taught against the Bible.

And if it doesn’t agree, it’s wrong. There’s just no other way to look at it. Isaiah 820, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. We have Lynn and Palm Harbor. She calls in with us off air questions. She says, are Adam and Eve in heaven? And the answer is Lynn, yes indeed they are. Adam and Eve were both saved. And they were saved the same way we’re saved today. As everybody who’s ever been saved the same way we are saved today.

That’s by faith in Jesus Christ. You say, well, how did they know about Christ? Well, if you read carefully, Genesis 3.15 is the first pomens of Jesus. And it says there, the seed of the woman, which is a veiled reference to the virgin birth of Christ would ultimately defeat Satan and he would defeat Satan by having his heel bruise, which is another veiled reference to the crucifixion. The only death we know of where the heel of the victim is bruised is crucifixion where the person being crucified has to push up on their heel for every breath.

And ultimately the person being crucified dies of suffocation because they can become exhausted and they can’t push up anymore and they can’t catch their breath. And so they believe that promise. So you read just a couple of verses later. Genesis 3.15 promises this Savior, the seed of the woman, that would defeat Satan. Then you have in verse 20 that Adam named Eve. He gave her her name. Now that’s an unusual situation where as parents we can name our children, but what husband gets to name his wife?

Well Eve was named by Adam and he called her Eve because the word Eve means mother of all living. And what is interesting is at that point Eve had not had a child she had not yet become pregnant and he named her the mother of all living. That means that Adam believed that Eve would have children and down the line Jesus the Messiah would come and they both believed that as Eve evidences that in chapter four where when she had her first children they were twins, Cain and Abel she thought Cain was the Messiah.

She says, I have begotten a man, even the Lord. She thought Cain was the Messiah. She was wrong. But they believed the coming Messiah was coming. And as a result, God in verse 21 of Genesis 3, clothed both of them with the coats of skins of animals. That’s a picture of Christ. An innocent animal had to be slain. Its blood had to be shed. the coat of the animal became the covering that satisfied God. And in the same way, Jesus, who was without sin, was slain.

His blood had to be shed. And His righteousness becomes the covering for the believer so that we can interheaven. We get His righteousness imputed to our account as a believer. So definitely, Adam and Eve were saved in this picture to us in Genesis 3.21. And I believe that I’m going to be able to walk over and shake hands without a buddy. Won’t that be spectacular? We have Rod in Charles City, Virginia. He calls in, leaves this question off air.

He says, is the rise of oil prices and the decline of the American dollar part of Bible prophecy and will it end? I absolutely think it is. And it’s going to cause obviously people to readdress this whole thing. And everybody is going to want to get that oil in the Middle East, which is what we’ll bring about Armageddon. The Bible says in Ezekiel that God would put hooks in the jaws of the nations to draw them in to the Middle East.

And that’s exactly what we’re seeing now is that our focus is there and it’s going to happen. We’re going to go to now Ed in Spring Hill, Florida, and Ed, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. about the first kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added onto you. How does that relate to the church age? I think it’s a principle that’s always been true that if you put the Lord first in your life, then God is going to take care of all of your needs.

And there it talks about, of course, our clothing and our housing and all those kind of things. And I definitely believe it to this very hour. put God first, God is going to take care of the other things that we worry about all the time, and He tells us to take no thought for what you shall wear, what you shall eat, in the sense that we should not be filled with anxiety and worry over those things, but God will supply for us.

So I think that’s a key verse for the Christian that we ought to put Jesus first and live for Him and serve Him, and He’ll take care of our problems as they come our way. Okay. And then the second question is about the Lord’s Prayer. How does that relate to? Okay. I really don’t believe it’s for the Church Age because it’s a prayer for the Kingdom, but I do believe that it’s a beautiful prayer and an example of how we should pray, a teaching tool, but not to be repetitiously repeated.

Thank you for that call. That concludes today’s question and answer segment. There is no other topic that is more important to us than the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and it was Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s mission to spread the gospel. from the book of John or Hebrews, plus many others. Now join us as we return to today’s teaching series. There are no contradictions in the Bible, and generally it’s our lack of the geography or the circumstances or something else. We’re not reading the passages carefully. It caused people to imagine seeming contradictions. They’re just aren’t any. And you need to back off and say, I need a little more time. I’m in a little more research before I would stick my foot in my mouth and say that the Bible is an error because the Bible is not.

Chapter 21, when they drew near to Jerusalem, they were come to Beth Phage. This is on the Mount of Olives, on the side away from Jerusalem. Beth Fage is a city that means house of unripe figs. Beth means house and Beth Fage means house of unripe figs and it was a picture of Israel not being ready to receive their Messiah. Here we have Jesus now coming to offer himself to Israel as their Messiah and this happens on Palm Sunday and we find that they reject him.

And so here he comes fittingly to the city of Bethphage, which is a picture that Israel was a house of unripe figs, not ready to receive Jesus as a Messiah. He comes unto the Mount of Olives, which is the mountain to the east of Jerusalem and on the slope away from Jerusalem is the little town of Bethphage. And then since Jesus, too, is disciples, and He said, go over into the village over against you. In straight way you’ll find an ass tied in a coat with her.

Loose them and bring them unto me. Here Christ is God, He’s omniscient. He knew what they would find. He didn’t go over there himself, apparently. But He knew that there would be an ass in a coat tied there with her. Loose them and bring them unto me. And if anybody say unto Otto to you, you shall say the Lord hath neither of them. And they’re going to say, well, good. Go ahead. Straight way He will send them. So they weren’t stealing the animal, and they were to ask, and a person would send it.

All this was done, and it might be what? Fulfilled. And we saw that word before in Matthew many times, and we’ll see it again. It says it was fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet, and now it quotes from the Old Testament, Zechariah 9, 9, says, Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold thy king cometh unto the meek sitting upon an ass upon the colt the full of an ass. And so the prophet Zechariah had foretold the descent of Jesus off the slopes of the Mount of Oz as he came to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

And the disciples went, did as Jesus commanded them. And he brought the ass and the colt and put on them their clothes and they set him there on. Man a very great multitude spread their garments in the way. Others kept down branches from the trees and strode them in the way. And that’s why we call it Palm Sunday. On all of the trips I’ve led over there in the Middle East, we’ve always walked down this road. It’s the ancient Roman road that came over the top of the Mount of Olives and down to the city of Jerusalem.

And it’s been there for over 2,000 years and truly we could all say we walked today where Jesus walked because we know that this is where he walks. He was not in his head over here. He walked down that slope with me and anybody who’s been with me has got a chance to walk it from it. We never tried to walk it up because it’d be exhausting, but it’s easier to walk downhill. And so we’d park our bus at the top of the Mount of Olives and walk down the very same road that Christ came down on this day.

And the multitudes went before and those that followed cried saying, Hosanna. Hosanna means save now to the son of David. That’s the title of the Messiah that he’d be the son of David blessed to see that comes in the name of Yeshua. In English it would be Jesus. So this is one of those verses from Psalm 118 that said blessed is the one are happy is the one who comes in the name of Jesus of the name of Yeshua.

Hosanna saved in the highest and so we find here the people are crying out for salvation as as they quote from this wonderful hymn in the Psalm, Psalm 118. And they say, save now to the son of David to Christ, a Messianic title. Happy or blessed is he that comes in the name of Yeshua, or Jesus. Happy is he. Hosanna in the highest, saved in the highest. And when he was coming to Jerusalem, all the city was moved. And they said, who is this?

And the multitude said, the notice, apparently after the excitement of coming down the slopes and the Mount of Olives, it seems like the multitude shifted away from the fact that he’s the son of David, the Messiah. And they said, this is Jesus, the prophet of Nazareth. of Galilee. They kind of lowered his status to just a prophet and not the Messiah. And then Jesus went into the temple of God and cast out all of them that sold and bought in the temple and overthrew the tables of the money changers and the seats of them that sold us.

And he said unto them it is written, My house. Here was Jesus who is God and the temple was His house. My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you made it the dead of thieves. What was going on? Well, we’re Well, it probably started off as a good thing. They sold animals for sacrifice, but what happened was that they wouldn’t allow you to bring your animal from home. They would only allow you to sacrifice an animal that was approved by the temple priest.

And they would charge you an exorbitant price. So you couldn’t bring your animal. You had to buy theirs, and you had to buy it at a higher price. And then you couldn’t use your money, you had to use temple money. So you’d have to exchange your money for their money and of course you got cheated there too. So it was a rip off. I think of it when I go to Raymond James. You know you can’t bring your drink or food in there.

You have to go to their concession stand and what do you have to pay? Exorbitant price. Four dollars for a little drink. And you usually have to drink a couple of those where you’re out of there and four dollars for a hot dog. And I guess the money changers are still here. And I think I see them over at Raymond James sometimes. But they search your bag. You can’t go in with any food. You have to buy the temple food and the temple water.

That’s right, the Colosseum food. But in any case, Jesus knew that the people were being cheated. And so he cast them out. Verse 14, when the blind and the lame came to him in the temple and he healed them. I mark that in my Bible because that’s the ones that the modern healers don’t like to touch. The lame remain lame and the blind remain blind. And the so-called healings take place things like arthritic pain or things you can’t prove or demonstrate.

And they say that they’re healed. But these were obvious healings. These were people that were blind and lame from birth oftentimes. And it was quite obvious that they went away seeing and hearing. I wish it were happening today, but it is gone. And what we see today, I believe, is a counterfeit. When the chief priests and the scribes, all the wonderful things that he did and the children crying in the temple saying, Hosanna, or save now to the son of David, they were happy, they were not happy.

They were so heart- displeased. They were not happy at all. The religious leadership rejected Christ and said unto him, don’t you hear what these These children are saying like correct them or stop them. And Jesus said unto them, Yay have you never read out of the mouth of babies and sucklings has not perfected praise? These children were speaking the truth and they were giving praise rightfully so, but the religious leaders rejected him. Thanks for listening to Bibleline with Dr.

This is a magic land. This is a fiction land. This is totally not supported by anything in the Bible. And it goes contrary to the Bible because the only way sin can be paid for is by death. And it was Christ’s death that shed blood that paid our sin debt. And there is no place where you can go and work off your sins, which is what is taught about purgatory where you work off your sins. And by the way, the Roman Catholic Church estimates that every person that dies, that’s Roman Catholic will spend a hundred thousand years minimum in purgatory paying for their last sins that they didn’t get paid for here.

thousand years. That’s a long time. But guess what? I have good news. There is no purgatory. I have good news. 2 Corinthians 5, 8, when we die, we’re absent from the body. We are present with the Lord. That’s good news. Verse 1 here, by the way, in 2 Corinthians 5, tells us that we have a new body waiting for us in heaven. I love what it says in verse when it says we know that we have. We know K-N-O-W, not perhaps not maybe, not that we guess or we think so, or this is a hunch that we have.

It says we know. Why? Because God told us so. So we know that we have, it says a new house, a new building for our soul, a house not made with hands eternal in the heavens. We have a brand new body waiting for us in heaven. I can’t wait. And by the way, we’re all gonna be in the prime of life in our new bodies. If you’re older, you’re going to be younger. If you’re younger, you’re going to be older.

Everybody I think will be about 33 years of age and appearance. Christ, when he died, was about 33 years of age. And the Bible says we’re going to get a resurrection body like His resurrection body. In fact, back in the Old Testament in the book of Job, it says that our flesh will be fresher than our babies. There’s nothing like a brand new baby and baby skin and their complexion is so wonderful and their skin is so soft. You know, we’re going to have wonderful skin, wonderful bodies, youthful bodies, and we’ll be able to live and enjoy those bodies forever and ever and ever.

But at the moment of death as we lose this body, which we could only have maybe 70, 80, maybe a hundred years will die and the Bible says we’ll be absent from the body, present with the Lord. And then in verse 1 it says we know that when we get there we have a new body waiting force, a new body eternal in the heavens it says. Doesn’t say we hope so or guess so. It says we know so. Verse 1 says we know that we have this new house for our soul waiting force in heaven.

Aren’t you excited? I certainly am. And by the way the way things look in this world, I wouldn’t doubt that the Lord is going to come real soon. And you might just be caught up to meet the Lord in the air and never, ever experience physical death. Did you know the Bible talks about a group that will never die? That’s right. Jesus said it, and by the way, he’s talking about the Rapture, and it’s not in the normal passage where you normally look for it, in John 11 when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.

He tells Martha, I am the resurrection and the life. He the believeth in me, though he were dead yet shall he live.” That’s John 11.25. And then in verse 26 he talks about the rapture and he says, and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. He’s referring to a separate group at the end of the age. I think we’re there right now at the end of this age. And if you’re living and you’re a believer, when Christ returns at the end of the age, you’ll be a part of a group that will never die.

That’s right, you’ll never die. You’ll never die. You’ll be caught up alive in the air to meet the Lord in the air and be giving your brand new body on the way up. That is really exciting. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bibleline. Great to be with you. God bless all of you who pray and give the Bibleline. And we pray that everybody listening is saved, has trusted Christ alone, as the only means of their salvation. Got a run, but keep looking up.
