And if you have your Bible handy, turn to the book of 1 Peter, chapter 4. So in the Bible, when you read about the obedient as verses the disobedient, it’s really about how they respond to the gospel and the disobedient of those are disobedient to the gospel and they will be judged severely.
So if the judgment of God begins first with us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel? That’s in the great white throne judgment that happens a thousand years after the first judgment for us believers at the end of the millennium, and obviously they’re going to be cast into the everlasting lake of fire. Then verse 18 basically goes over this again. If the righteous scarcely be saved, what does that say? Apparently a lot of believers will get in with no rewards.
They just get in. And they are righteous, of course, by belief. When you trust Christ, you’re made righteous because the righteousness of God is credited to your account. And it says, if the righteous scarcely be saved, in other words, they kind of get in yet so as by fire, they just get in with no works, but they get in. Where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Godly in the sinner are the unsaved and obviously they’re not only going to go to hell but they’ll be severely punished for their works or for their deeds.
So again the righteous are the believers in the Bible, the wicked are the unbelievers. Here the wicked are described as the ungodly as sinners. We’re sinners of course too but we’re sinners saved by grace and the term sinners generally used of an unsafe person. Verse 19, Wherefore, let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well-doing as unto a faithful creator. So here talks about Christians who suffer according to the will of God.
So it tells us here that But sometimes it’s God’s will for you to suffer. And if you haven’t come to grips with that, then maybe you ought to say, this is the will of God that you suffer. And what does he have in view? I believe that not only does he comfort you while you suffer, but he can use you then to comfort others who suffer just as you have been comforted by God. this verse of Corinthians, I think I shared with you last week, but I love it.
And it says in 2 Corinthians chapter 1, as you suffer and call out upon the Lord. It says in verse 3 of 2 Corinthians page 1230, 2 Corinthians 1 verse 3, Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies. And look at this title of God in the end of verse 3, 1st Corinthians 1, and the God of all comfort. The God of all comfort. So the God of the Bible is called the God of all comfort.
And verse 4, look at this wonderful verse that says, who comforts us in all our tribulations. Whatever trials or tribulations you go through, He will comfort you in all those tribulations. That what? That we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. That’s incredible, isn’t it? So when you’re going through an experience you say, wow, I’m suffering and I’m gonna call upon God to comfort me. And with the same comfort that you received from God, you’re able to comfort somebody else who’s going through a trial.
And God can use you to minister to them with the same comfort that God gave to you as you tell them about the comfort you’ve had from him. I think that is incredible, isn’t it? So if you’ve suffered a death, I know when I lost my son. That was one thing that was really true that I really could come back. comfort somebody a lot better after having lost my son, then I could before I did that. Obviously, I had a new understanding of what death was all about and the loss that you experienced and how it affects your life and others and so on and what people are feeling and thinking and so on and the sorrow they’re experiencing.
And so you’re able to comfort them like you couldn’t do before. And if you have somebody who’s had a surgery and you’ve had surgery and you’ve been comforted by the Lord through that, you’re able to comfort them in a way that nobody else can. They haven’t had the experience. They really don’t have a clue. And so they’re not able to comfort them. So I think as we go through difficult experiences and we have different sufferings and trials that come into our life and we are astute to paying attention saying, hey, wow, God has this for a reason because when I get done with this thing, he’s going to use me to help somebody else who’s going through a similar situation.
And that’s what it’s saying here. Verse 6, whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. In other words, this is something for your profit. This is something for you to learn from. This is something that you’ll benefit by. But you need to go through it as a test and come through it successfully, realizing that God has a reason.
Okay, why? Is my radiator hose blue? Or why was my flight delayed? Or why did this happen or that happen or whatever it is. Why was my house broken into? All these things can turn to a blessing and you can find comfort from the Lord and He will help you to comfort somebody else with the same comfort you have experienced. So I think every day’s experience is whatever they are plus or minus’s. You have to say, how can I learn what God would have to teach me through these experiences.
And how can I use it for the Lord’s glory? How can I help somebody else who is going through a similar experience? And how can I use it to maybe lead them to Christ if they’re unsaved or if a believer to encourage them not to give up, but to put their trust in the living God? So let’s go back down to 1 Peter chapter 4 and verse 19 where it says, Therefore, let them that suffer according to the will of God.
So obviously, in some cases, it is God’s will for you to suffer. And certainly, Jesus suffered as an example to us, and we’re to have to arm our minds with that and be ready for it and be equipped to say, hey, if suffering comes my way, then I need to realize this is possibly a part of God’s will for me, and I need to be able to accept it. So, wherefore let them suffer according to the will of God, commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing.
Do the right thing and just trust God to get you through the the testing, the suffering, whatever it might be, and doing well or doing the right thing as unto what? A faithful creator. In other words, God loves you and He’s not going to try to do anything that’s going to be negative. There are positive benefits of every experience He brings you through. So you have to say, I trust God as being a faithful creator. Job trusts God, you know, when he went through all of his experiences, he lost all of his children, he lost all of his possessions, and his wife said, you know, do you want to just curse God and die?
I mean, great advice. He said, what? Naked came out of my mother’s womb, naked shall return to their blessed be the name of the Lord. And Job it says, worship the Lord. Wow, he just lost everything. But he believed that he had a faithful creator that he could trust. And even though it didn’t look good, that God was still faithful and God was going to reward him for coming through the trials of life correctly. And so we have to say, wow, my creator is not going to make a mistake.
He’s not going to do the wrong thing. And he’s going to see me through this. And he has a reason for bringing this into my life, and I need to just commit myself to do the right thing because I have a faithful Creator who is going to see me through it and reward me for having done the right thing. And obviously Job came out on top of the end, didn’t he? God bless him with twice what he had lost.
In all those things that happened to Job, the Bible said he said not. Amazing. You’re listening to Bibleline, a teaching ministry that’s dedicated to delivering the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Would you like to learn more about God’s Word? Then visit our online store on our website or call our resource center at 1-800-576-3771. Now let’s listen to some questions from callers. We’re going to go to John in St. Petersburg. John, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the earth.
Oh, hey, I had a question about this is obviously a minor point but ends of God for the two one when they came together. I was wondering what you’re talking about earlier in Job Now that’s also believers the scene is on the earth not in heaven and believers came together to worship God There was always a specific place a sign for God To be worshiped even Cain enable it says they brought their sacrifice to the Lord Obviously, there was a place where God would meet with man.
And here in Job chapter 1 and chapter 2, the sons of God, which are believers, came to worship the Lord. And then Satan comes. And the Lord says to Satan, where have you been? He says from roaming to and fro here upon the earth. So the scene is on the earth. And Satan obviously was observing the believers’ worshiping. And we find that God then begins to brag on Job and said, hey, while you were going back and forth in the earth, did you happen to notice my servant Job?
If there’s none like him. And brags on him. And then of course we see what happens there where Satan says, yeah, you’ve got a hedge of protection about him. And if you just let me have at him, he’ll curse you. And God says, okay, go for it. And limits what Satan can do to Job. But Job never did curse the Lord. Job was an incredible believer. I’ll tell you, if we could all just live up to his standard, you know, he said, naked came out of my mother’s womb naked shall return to the Lord is given the Lord is taken away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord. Job never sinned against the Lord or blamed God or hated God or accused God in the whole scenario, but he simply worship God even through his adversities. Let’s say it’s ethical. But they’re not angels. Again, Hebrews 1 and 5, God never called an angel his son. These are believers. And that’s consistent with even back in Genesis chapter 4, you have the first time the phrase, sons of God is used, and it’s used of believers.
And believers at the time of Genesis, the Noah’s flood, were marrying unbelievers and the gospel got lost. Apparently they didn’t pass it down to their children and only knowing his family were saved at the time of the flood Thanks for calling. Yes. Thanks All right, that was John in St. Petersburg calling in we now have Glenn in Tampa, Florida and Glenn welcome to vinyl Hey When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead He was obviously the Lazarus that the rich man was talking about nope he’s not oh Lazarus there is the brother of Mary and Martha if you read John 11 you read the whole story there and the rich man and the beggar named Lazarus is a totally different Lazarus even think about that so two different guys well my question was when and Lazarus did die and where he was, where do you think he was this three days?
I think I know where he was. Well yeah, his soul had to go down to the heart of the earth to paradise and he was dead four days in Luke, I mean in John’s Gospel chapter 11, it was after four days in, you know, Christ said, take me out to the gravesite and they, he asked them to roll the stone away and they didn’t want to do that. He said, you know, about now four days he stinketh. And they did roll the stone away and he cried out with a loud voice, Lazarus come forth.
And Lazarus came out with all the grave wrappings all around him and He said, Lucy, and cut those grave wrappings off of him and Lazarus was raised from the dead. That was the last miracle and last straw for the religious hierarchy because they said, well, we got to get rid of this guy. If he does those kind of miracles, everybody’s going to follow him. We’re going to lose our jobs. And they didn’t want the competition against the Jewish leadership there in the temple being confronted with a guy that could do things like what Jesus was doing.
And so they plotted from that time on to kill Christ once they saw unheard of the resurrection of Lazarus He’s probably in paradise Do you think he was questioning Jesus like why you know, why would you bring it back to? You know earth. I don’t want to come back. I want to stay where I was Well, you know, obviously the chapter tells us that he did that to display the glory of God the fact that he is God Yeah, and so Jesus is God and and obviously only God can raise the dead and so Jesus Raised him from the dead as a demonstration of the power he said earlier in that chapter I am The phrase I am is a title that God used at the burning bush when he appeared to Moses But he amplifies that in John 11 25 and says I am the resurrection and the life
He the believer than me though he were dead yet shall he live again and whosoever liveth and believe it than me shall never die and And of course that verse 26 refers to the rapture that there will be at the end of the age people who are living who believe on Christ who will never die. And I’m looking forward to being in that group. I think we’re close enough that I could possibly qualify and most of our listeners could as well.
Stay healthy a little bit longer if you’re a believer and you’re living when Christ returns you’ll never die. You’ll be caught up to meet the Lord near. Amen. Thank you very much, Esther. All right, Glenn. That was Glenn calling in from Tampa, Florida. We’re going to go to Mary now in Spring Hill, Florida and Mary. Welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Hi Pastor Hank. You were talking about apostasy in the church in the latter days. Yes. My son goes to Southern Baptist in Orlando.
Okay. And for Halloween they had a Halloween party and they had witches welcoming people at the door. Well that just doesn’t seem to be consistent with a Christian testimony. No. He was stunned. He could not believe it. A lot of practices are being introduced into the churches today which are not consistent with the Bible and somehow there’s this disconnection from the truth and from the Bible and I think obviously we all need to go back to the Bible and try to align our doctrine and our practices with the Word of God.
And they’re also just embracing Rick Warren’s 40 days of whatever. Well you know most of these that are doing that are, they’re really going in a direction of more entertainment and less Bible and I think that’s a serious mistake and there’s a lot out there you can read on the internet but we have a couple of books here deceived on purpose and who’s driving the purpose driven church which are really eye openers even showing that the examples that Rick Warren uses in his book of the 40 days don’t even match up with what he says that they’re supposed to say happened as a result that some purpose came out of the forty days that and most of those just don’t connect up at all.
They’re really are statements made but can’t be demonstrated to be so and the whole book I think is flawed myself in my opinion. I do too. I do too. I think it’s totally feel good. Well that’s the whole idea today isn’t it I guess. Yeah, and I go to a Southern Baptist or I did. And you never, you don’t have to worry about bringing your Bible because they never use it. Well, yeah, more and more, they’re discouraging that. And they want to put up selected verses from whatever lousy translation they might want to use up on a big screen where you see it up above.
And so you don’t have any choice about looking up the context or actually having the Bible in your hand. at the Liberty of whatever translation they want to show to you. And again, that’s not a major part of the service. The Bible is not as important as it used to be in church worship. Mary, thank you for sharing that with us. God bless you and thank you for your show. All right. Thank you. We now have Joy calling in from St.
Petersburg. Joy, welcome to Bibleline. Yes, good morning. I’d like to thank you for your program and your knowledge of the Bible. You were talking about, the thing is God said he’s my only begotten, which is a child born through a woman, because the whole Bible is begotten, begotten. I just wonder maybe you have thought of that or… Well, of course, and it says that, but it also says, when did God ever call an angel his son? He implied answers he never did.
No, but he did have Jesus down by… Right, but Jesus is not an angel. You know, this is one of the flaws in Jehovah’s Witnesses. They claim that Jesus is Michael the archangel, and they also say he’s the son of God, not God, but the son of God. And obviously, that’s a contradiction because God never called an angel his son so they cannot say that Jesus is an angel. They say he’s Michael the Archangel and obviously they speak out of both sides of their mouth and that’s an absolute error, major error on the part of the witnesses which that error is the one that will cause them to go to hell because if you reject that Jesus is God who came and took on human flesh to die to pay for the sins of the world and for your sins individually, you will not go to heaven.
Jesus said in John 824, if you believe not that I am, which is the name of God, as God identified Himself to Moses at the burning bush, he says, you’re going to die in your sins. You must recognize that Jesus is God, and that is a major doctrinal error on the part of the witnesses. Could you tell me the definition of begotten in the Hebrew scripture? Well, in other words, the egg in Mary was fertilized by God, but not by a man.
And that’s what happened. The conception took place because God, the Holy Spirit, brought about the conception. Right. So the angels weren’t born by conception, only Jesus. That’s correct. He’s the only begotten. That’s correct. So that’s what… They were created beings and they were all created in the male sex appearance and they are no such thing as female angels and no baby angels and all that. So thank you for your call. I appreciate your answer. Alright and again no angel has ever been called a son.
If you read Hebrews it tells us that man before the fall is lower than the angels but after being born again, we in position are higher than the angels. Some people said, you know, hey, Bob just died. Is Bob an angel now? And of course the answer is no. We don’t become angels. Never were angels. Never will become angels. Those of us in the human race that trust Christ become born again and we become sons of God, which is a position higher than the angels.
Angels never were called sons of God. would make angels and men equal and we’re not. We as believers are above the angels and the angels then become ministering spirits to us and for all eternity angels will wait on us who are believers. Isn’t that a fascinating thought? I love 1 John 3 1. It says, Be loved, behold what manner of love the Fathereth bestowed upon us believers that we should be called the sons of God. As a title higher than the angels have, and we are going to have the angels waiting on us forever in heaven because we are higher than the angels once we become born again.
Sure, thank you for those calls. We’re going to turn in our Bibles to date of Genesis chapter 1. It says in verse 1, in the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. What an incredible verse and what a way to begin the Bible. God is the Creator of the universe, and you’ll note here it doesn’t tell us when he did that. Apparently it was millions and billions of years ago that he created the universe. And what is interesting here is that we find in verse 2 that the earth became without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
That is not the way God created the earth. He didn’t create it part way or formless or void. He created it perfect and inhabited. How do we know? Well, if you turn to Isaiah 45-18, it says, thus saith the Lord that created the heavens and the earth. And there in this marvelous verse, he says he created it not vain. Now the word vain is the very same word in the Hebrew that’s translated void in Genesis 1-2. So here we learn from Isaiah 45-18 that God did not create the earth vain and without form and void as we find it in Genesis 1-2.
Let me read that verse in Isaiah 45. It says, let’s say the Lord that created the heavens, God Himself that formed the earth and made it. He established it. He created it not in vain or the word is void in the Hebrew. He did not create it as you find it in Genesis 1 2. Then it says he formed it to be inhabited. I am the Lord and there is none else. So here we learn that God, when he originally created the earth, created it perfect, created it inhabited.
And we believe that prior to Adam and Eve, there were plants, animals, dinosaurs, and angelic beings on this earth. that the original earth was inhabited by all of the angels of God. And that Lucifer, who became Satan, was the God of this world and ruled over the planet earth for millions of years. Then there came a point in time when the Bible tells us that Lucifer decided he wanted to overthrow heaven. You see, the angels never lived in heaven.
We’ve been taught wrong all of our lives. The angels never lived in heaven. They lived here on the earth. And we find that when Lucifer decided to overthrow heaven, he let a rebellion take one-third of God’s angels and they went with him in this rebellion and were judged along with Satan and were cast back down to the earth. At the same time, God apparently destroyed all life on the planet. Apparently, he allowed some huge asteroid to strike the planet.
Now, NASA tells us that 65 million years ago, a huge asteroid struck the Earth in the area of the Yucatan Peninsula. And according to NASA, the impact was such that it threw up so much debris from the Earth that the sun’s light was cut off for millions of years. That meets exactly the description we have in Genesis 1-2, and the Earth became without form and void. In darkness was upon the face of the deep. The sun’s light was cut off.
Scientists tell us if the sun’s light were cut off, for as little as 72 hours, the earth would be quick frozen. I believe that would explain the ice ages. Apparently, this happened rather quickly. They have found and discovered mammoths way up in Siberia, and they were quick frozen in the ice, and they were discovered to find vegetation in their stomachs undigested. talk about a quick freeze, these huge animals were caught in this terrible judgment. Amazing! And apparently according to Nancy that was 65 billion years ago, the earth remained that way.
It says darkness is upon the face of the deep, Genesis 1-2. The earth was not created vain or void, but it became that way. And then just about 6,000 years ago, it picks up in verse 2 and says the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Now the word moved, if you look it up in the Hebrew, is a word that means to brood upon, to incubate. Apparently the Holy Spirit then incubated the earth, warmed it up, prepared it for life, as the Holy Spirit thought out the ice from the ice ages, and then just 6,000 years ago, God in seven days recreated the earth for life again, and He puts man on the planet.
We have the evidence today of that original creation in all of our fossil fuels. Coal is the fossilized remains of plant life and we have petroleum which is fossilized animal life and these fossil fuels were the remains of the original creation when God judged the earth. Isn’t that fascinating? We also then learned theologically why Satan was here in the garden, why he was so motivated to cause Adam and Eve to fall, and of course, when he fell himself. We gotta run, keep looking up.
