Today’s Bibleline will conclude this teaching series, but we will begin a new teaching series on the book of Daniel next time on Bibleline. We pray that Bibleline will be glorifying to God and helpful to you as you further your knowledge in the Word of God. As we continue Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s ministry of spreading the gospel across the world, please pray for us as we refine Bibleline’s format. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Don’t forget to tell others about Bibleline, and if Bibleline isn’t broadcast in their area, then ask them to visit our website at BibleLineMinistries.org. As you listen to future programs and detailed teachings from the Word of God, perhaps you can help lead someone to Christ through the lessons taught on Bibleline. This teaching series has covered a variety of topics related to the events leading up to and surrounding the resurrection of Jesus, including the wages of sin, everlasting life, triumphant entry, Palm Sunday, the Passover, and the crucifixion and burial of Jesus.

If you can, please get out your Bible and gather your friends and family for Bible teachings and answers to questions about the Bible from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. In today’s concluding show, we are focusing on the resurrection of Jesus as we listen to excerpts from Dr. Lindstrom’s 2006 Resurrection Sunday service. If you haven’t already begun saying it, please say it with me now. Happy Resurrection! What a special Sunday. Thank you for being here today on Resurrection Sunday. And I hope you’re using the R word and we’ll continue to use it from now on out and tell people that Christ is risen alive forevermore.

First Corinthians chapter 15. Let’s turn there. This is the classic passage that defines for us the gospel message. It says here in verse 3, for I delivered unto you, first of all, that which I also received how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. Here is the message. It’s a simple one. The death, the burial, the resurrection of Christ. And notice it says here Christ died.

And too often, I think Christians just when they witness or share the gospel tell their friends that Christ died. But notice, if you will, the next words, because this is what is significant. He died for our sins. The fact that Christ died is not unique are people who die every day. But only one person in all of history has died for your sins. So if you’re marking your Bible, you might want to mark that and when you’re presenting the gospel, you might want to make sure that you focus in on the fact that Christ died for your sins.

When he died, he died to pay for every sin that you would ever commit in your whole lifetime, your past, your present and your future sins. And he paid for them in full so that while you’re living, he can offer you the gift of everlasting life. You can receive it by trusting Christ because it’s been fully paid for. And he can give it to you at the moment you trust Christ. It says then, according to the Scriptures, at this particular point in time, there were no New Testament Scriptures to speak of.

The New Testament just began to come online. It’s referring to the Old Testament Scriptures. The fact that the Old Testament had foretold that Christ would die to pay for our sins. Did you know that? That’s why I believe the Bible to be true, because the Bible… Beginning in Genesis tells the wonderful story of redemption, how that the Messiah would come and die to pay for our sins. And it says here it happened according to the Scriptures, exactly as the Bible outlined that it would take place.

And that he was buried. And that he rose again the third day. It says, notice again, according to the Scriptures. Do you mean his death, burial, and resurrection is seen in the Old Testament? Absolutely. Christ is throughout the Old Testament. You know, the first promise of the coming Messiah is in Genesis 3.15, I believe, where God speaks the two comings of Christ where it talks there about the seed of the woman, probably a veiled reference to the virgin birth, where a woman would have seed without a man referring to Jesus Christ.

Eve even thought her firstborn son was that Messiah. When Cain was born, She says, I have begotten a man, even the Lord. She was wrong. Obviously Cain turned out to be one who commits the first murder, that Satan influenced him, and he killed the one that the Messiah would have come through, and God replaced Abel with another one, Seth, and you can follow the line of the Messiah. But there would be a child that would be born that would not have a human father, the seed of the woman.

And this one would ultimately defeat Satan as it speaks about Satan’s head being bruised by the seed of the woman in Genesis 3.15. But it also mentions that Satan would bruise the heel of the Messiah, the seed of the woman. And perhaps that is a veiled reference to the crucifixion. The only death that we know of where the heel of the victim is bruised is crucifixion. Because when a person is crucified, their feet are spiked together at the bottom and for every breath they have to push their body up and their heel presses down and their heel becomes bruised.

And finally, the person being crucified dies of suffocation as they can no longer push up and they can’t catch their breath and they suffocate and they die. But isn’t it amazing that God gives us that hint way back in Genesis 3.15, the seat of the woman, the one that would defeat Satan one day, would have his heel bruised by Satan And we believe that’s a reference to the crucifixion and the cross of Calvary. God gave seven feast days in the Old Testament, all of them were of prophetic picture of the two comings of Christ, the first of which was the Feast of Passover.

You find all seven listed in Leviticus chapter 23. And the first one, the Passover Christ died exactly when the Passover was observed and died exactly when Israel would offer up the Passover lamb as in Exodus on the 10th day of the first month, Nai-san. They would select a lamb out from the sheep and the goats, one that would be without blemish and without spot. It would be kept up until the 14th day in slain in the evening of the 14th day which was the Passover.

And we believe it worked out exactly that Christ came down the slopes of the Mount of Olives on Palm Sunday the 10th day of the first month. And then he was recognized by the populace as being the Messiah. They cried out, Hosanna to the Son of David. And then he enters into the temple, overthrows the tables of the money changers, and the religious leaders reject him. And from that moment on, plot his death. And so he’s designated as the lamb that’s to be slain.

And Jesus Christ was that lamb. And in order to demonstrate that he had no blemish, everybody begins to examine him over the next several days. Pharisees, the Sadducees. The scribes, the Herodians, and all these different groups take their turn, and of course he embarrasses them all. And none of them could find any fault with him. Finally, after the betrayal in the garden, he goes before Caiaphas and Anas and Caiaphas and Herod, and finally before Pilate early Wednesday morning. And their Pilate interrogates him and says, I find no fault in him.

So after being interrogated and examined by all these different power bodies in Israel, the result was nobody could find any fault with him. They found him to be the sinless, spotless Lamb of God that was to be slain. And then we find that Pilate gives the decree for him to be crucified. And he’s nailed to the cross on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Three in the afternoon he dies, and that period from three to six is the evening of the Passover.

The Passover begins at 6 p.m. That’s Thursday night occurring first, and the evening was always the afternoon of the preceding day. Christ died exactly when Exodus said the Lamb would be slain in the evening of the 14th day, which turns out to be the afternoon preceding Passover on the 13th at 3 in the afternoon. And Christ died as our Passover Lamb. 1 Corinthians 5-7 says for even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Jesus died as that Lamb that if you would apply His blood by faith, trusting that He died and shed His blood to pay your sin dead and full, was buried in rose again from the dead, God would pass over everyone who had applied the blood of Christ when He comes in judgment and you’ll never wind up in hell because Jesus Christ made the full payment for your sin.

Then there was the Feast of Unleavened Bread which spoke of His burial and His body, that sinless body was placed in the grave. And then there was the Feast of First Fruits and Christ rose exactly on that day. It always turned out to be the first day of the week. 1 Corinthians 15 verse 20 says, but now is Christ what? Risen from the dead and become what? You might want to mark it here. It says become the first fruits of them that slept.

So Jesus Christ becomes the fulfillment of the feast of first fruits. Christ comes back from the dead on the first day of the week. And we believe Saturday sundown is the beginning of the first day of the week. As the Jews count their day from sundown to sundown, Saturday sundown ends the Sabbath, and then the first day begins. And it begins with the night period, first, 12 hours of darkness, and then in the morning, 12 hours of light. And it was in the morning they discovered the empty tomb, but Christ rose as the feast of first-fruits fulfillment.

What did they do? It had to do with harvest. They would go out into the fields prior to the harvest and they would grab handfuls of grain and bring them before the priest to show a sampling of the harvest that was to come. And so when Christ rose from the dead, he also gave a sampling of the fact that all of those that would believe would be given resurrection bodies one day. Turn if you will to Matthew chapter 27.

In verse 50, are you ready? Jesus yields up his spirit or his life. Jesus could have remained alive if he had chosen to do so, but Jesus yielded up his spirit, were made of body, soul and spirit, and his spirit and soul departed that body, and he died at three in the afternoon. This is Matthew 27, now look at verse 51. And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom, In the temple there in Jerusalem, the holy of holies was separated from the larger room, the holies.

By this veil, they say it was made of animal skins, many layers thick, that teams of horses could not rip it apart, but notice, apparently, God ripped it apart upon Christ’s death as a picture of the fact that now men could enter into the presence of God because the lamb had been slain that would pay for the sins of the world. What is interesting here in verse 51 is that the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

If men had done it, they probably would have ripped it from the bottom to the top. But God is the one who ripped it and He ripped it from the top to the bottom. So now as believers, we can enter into heaven itself. When we die, as believers were absent from the body, present with the Lord, the Bible tells us 2 Corinthians 5 and 8. Thanks for joining us today. We hope that you’re enjoying today’s teaching on the resurrection.

We’re going to go to St. Petersburg and we have Charles on the line and Charles, welcome to Bible and you’re on the air.

Okay, my question is about seeing and being able to see things and know things is, for example, I have seen things about them and they have been kind of upset since these things have come to pass and nothing that I have told people does not come to pass. Is that up or that? Well, I’ve been told by one minute for that. That’s not good. Well, it really isn’t something the Bible tells us where to seek or desire. And the true gift of prophecy that the Bible talks about is not dealing with other people’s lives or their future.

It’s dealing with the events that God has on His program eternally. And we have all of that in the Bible itself, and so we don’t need that. This other practice is not really something. Now you may just be very discerning, and maybe you can just read the handwriting on the wall. You know, if somebody gets drunk and they get behind the wheel of their car, you can say, I bet you’re going to have an accident. You might get killed in that or you might kill somebody else and you’ll be absolutely right because you can kind of figure it out.

But I wouldn’t look to find some gift here to be able to tell people’s lives. It’s really fortune telling and that of course according to the Bible is not on God’s side of the learning curve here. That’s on the devil’s side where he lures us to want to have these special powers and have these special insights which really aren’t from God at all. So I’d be careful. But I think some people really have intuition or they can kind of sense things.

I think women are more intuitive than men are. But be careful you don’t go over the line with that. Okay. My next question was about fasting. I noticed in the Bible, many times it’s about fasting. In fact, that was a man that needed heal and God’s response was something to the fact that this one comes by fasting. I do do a lot of, I have done, not recently, a lot of fasting. I find very much strength and power in fasting.

Can you, can you? Absolutely. Sure. Tasting really has to do with your mind being sharp when your tummy is empty. So when you eat a big meal, what happens? I know Thanksgiving, I crash after I eat that Thanksgiving meal. Everybody in the whole room looks like they’re zoned out, they’re watching TV and they’re snoring or sleeping because the food will put you out. So basically God is saying that to be spiritually alert, to be spiritually able to receive truth from God that oftentimes it’s better too.

I’ve not had a full stomach. I learned that in college years ago, if I took an exam right after I ate a meal, I would do poorly. But if I ate several hours before, I took an exam, my mind would be much sharper. And the same thing was when I studied, if I started studying right after I ate a big meal, my mind was dull and I was kind of sleeping and I didn’t feel like studying. But you do better when your mind is sharp because you have an empty stomach.

So it’s really about that. And I think the disciples ought to be focused and to be sharp, mentally, and in tune with the Lord, He told them that they had to fast. And there’s no special magic about it. It’s just a… In fact, the way we were designed, that when we put food in our stomach, all the blood rushes to digest that food, and our brains are deprived of that during that time while our body is working on digesting the food.

Hope that helps. Thank you, much, for your call. We now have Adam out in Denver, Colorado. And Adam, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Good morning, Dr. Nester. I had a question. Over the media, I’ve been watching this stuff about Pope Benedict visiting the United And when I found interest, it is not once through this whole week that I heard the name Jesus Christ mentioned in its book, funny how these people look up to this person and not, you know, and know where have I ever heard of Jesus mentioned or, you know, the Savior.

It’s funny and I just wanted your thoughts on that. Well, you’re very observant to catch that and that’s absolutely true and it’s interesting to me. I think this is a really prophecy being fulfilled. As the Bible talks about a church that would be the in-time church that other churches would come under its umbrella. Yesterday the Pope met with a room full of representatives from all the different world religions and obviously they’re trying to bring them all under the umbrella of the Roman Catholic Church.

And the Bible talks about this system that is present in the Roman Catholic Church that dates back all the way to ancient Babylon and the Tower of Babel back there in Genesis 10 and 11. And obviously this church system will help the Antichrist rise to power. And I believe the Antichrist comes out of the United States of America. So it’s very interesting here how we have this connection with the Pope meeting with the President here. And it could be the very in time events that the Bible speaks about where it says in Revelation the woman, which is the Roman Catholic Church, will ride the beast.

That’s the Antichrist and they will work together and obviously the woman will control the Antichrist and help him and aid him to his rise to power and then of course it tells us that the beast will turn on the woman and destroy the Roman Catholic Church. So we are really watching some amazing things and it’s quite an amazing chapter. It tells us there that the woman is a city, chapter 17 of Revelation verse 18, in verse 9 it tells us the city is built upon seven hills.

And even in my Roman Catholic translation that I have here in the notes it says this is talking about Rome. So even the Catholic Church acknowledges that, but they have a historic view. They are preterists and they believe that Revelation has already been fulfilled. Therefore they don’t see any prophecy them about them in this present age. But it’s really talking about the future. And you know that for sure because in that chapter it talks about Jesus coming back and destroying ten nations that come against Israel.

And that hasn’t happened yet. My history book is still obviously still future. I hope that it helps a little bit there. But we are living in a time when prophecy is being fulfilled and this church does not really focus on Christ but on the church itself and the pope is considered to be the vicar of Christ or he is Christ here in Christ’s place here on the earth and the church is the means of salvation not Christ according to Roman Catholic theology.

Well, thank you. Appreciate your thoughts on that. Okay, Adam, Adam and Denver, Colorado. We hope that you are learning with us as we listen to this question and answer segment featuring Dr. Hank Lindstrom and previous Bibleline callers. Hank Lynch. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. To pledge your support for Bibleline, give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Well, this is Bible Adam, Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We’re going to get into the Bible for a few minutes. This is the week that Passover will be observed by the Jewish people around the world, and it will be observed, of course, according to the biblical calendar, the Jewish calendar, the lunar calendar. And so this is probably the more accurate date as to when Christ was crucified.

You know, Jesus died exactly when the Lamb in Israel was being offered up as the Passover Lamb. Jesus was the fulfillment of that, and he is the Passover Lamb, and he died exactly when they would offer up that Lamb. He died at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. That’s when they would offer up the Lamb as the Passover Lamb. Jesus died as the fulfillment of that. You know, one of the great passages in the Bible is 1 Corinthians chapter 15 where the gospel is defined.

And it really centers in on this very event where Christ was crucified as the Passover Lamb. Let me read it to you. It says in 1 Corinthians 15 and verse 3, for I delivered unto you first of all, that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. Notice what the verse says here, says Christ died for our sins. Christians. Christ died for our sins. First of all, think about it. Do you know of anybody else that has died for your sins?

Well, I don’t know of anybody. And by the way, Buddha didn’t, Muhammad didn’t, Confucius didn’t, the founders of all the religions didn’t, but Jesus did. And according to the Bible, he’s God who came and took on human flesh in order to go to the cross. And there’s only one Savior. It’s amazing that in Islam there There is no Savior. In Buddhism there is no Savior. In Hinduism there is no Savior. All of the world religions are based on human works and human efforts and you are to save yourself based upon the things that you do.

You know the word religion comes from two Latin words, Rii and Ligyo and it means to do something of self to bind back to God and all the religions of the world have this common denominator. That you have to work your way to heaven. That you have to do something to bind yourself back to God. And the Bible teaches the exact opposite. The Bible teaches that God did for man what man could not do for himself and that God left heaven and he is the one who offered himself as the sacrifice.

And there’s nothing that you or I could do or contribute. And when we simply trust Christ, God saves us. Not a wonderful story. And it is the story that John 3 16 says so well for God, so love the world. He did not mean that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God did all the hard part. God is the one who made the provision for our sin. Jesus Christ died as the Lamb of God, our part simply to believe, to trust, to trust that he did it for us.

And if we do that, we’ll not perish because he perished in our place, but we’ll have present tense, possess everlasting life. the greatest message I ever heard, and wow, what a great message it is. Christ died for our sins. Name somebody else that’s died for your sins. I think you’re going to have trouble finding somebody. Nobody has. Nobody has. Only Jesus died for your sins, and the Bible says in this wonderful defining passage in 1 Corinthians 15, it says here that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, notice that phrase according to the Scriptures, that’s referring to the Old Testament Scriptures.

That’s right. The Old Testament foretold the coming of Christ and how He would die and how He would pay for our sins. It’s very clear. I love Isaiah 53, written 700 years before Christ came the first time. It says in verse 5, He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our inequities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes. we are healed. Verse 6 says, all we like sheep have gone astray. We’ve turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Clear, isn’t it? God took our sin, God laid our iniquities, our sins upon Christ. He paid for them, and even though we had gone astray, we’ve gone to our own direction, but he would be wounded for our transgressions, he would be bruised for our iniquities. That’s told 700 years before he died on the cross and what does it say here in 1 Corinthians 15 verse 3? Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. He literally fulfilled the prophets and the prophecies that they gave and then it says he was buried verse 4 1 Corinthians 15.

And he rose again the third day according to the scriptures of Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bibleline. Would you like to help Bibleline continue in your area? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. And now back to Bibleline. Welcome back from the break. This is Tom Perry for Bibleline Ministries. It’s great to have you here today learning with us as we listen to questions from previous Bibleline callers and answers from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We hope that you have been able to join us over the past two weeks for Dr.

The financial gifts that are received from listeners just like you are reinvested into Bibleline and are used to further the growth of this outreach ministry in this community and if God wills to reach out to other communities as we grow.

Now, please join us as we return to our question and answer segment and then hear the concluding segment of Dr. Lynchham’s teaching series on the resurrection of Jesus. Linda in Tampa, Florida and the Linda, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the earth. Hi Hank, thank you for taking my call. I’m wondering what is the best way to witness to a Jewish woman? Okay, well again you need to use the scriptures and what I would do is use a couple of the Old Testament passages.

For example, Isaiah 53 tells about the crucifixion that talks about how Christ would be wounded for our transgressions. He would be bruised for our equities. The chastisement of our peace would be upon Him. And with His stripes we would be healed. Verse 6 goes on to say in Isaiah 53, all we like sheep have gone astray. We’ve turned everyone to His own way. And the Lord has laid on Him that is on Jesus the iniquity of us all. So there you have the payment that Christ would make, and there are so many details in that chapter of the first coming of Christ, including the fact that he would be done before his accusers, like sheep are done before their shearers, and that he would be cut off out of the land of the living.

He would die to pay for our sins, that God would be satisfied with the sacrifice of Christ as the full payment for our sin that you be crucified with other transgressors, the two thieves there and you be buried in a rich man’s tomb. All of that is right in that chapter. It’s pretty powerful. But I like to ask Jewish people this question. Where is your blood sacrificed? Because write this verse down, Linda, it says in Leviticus 1711, the life of the flesh is in the blood.

And I’ve given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makeeth an atonement for the soul. The Jewish people have not offered a blood sacrifice for 2000 years since the first temple was destroyed. Moses taught Leviticus 1711 that it was only the blood that would be able to make an atonement for their soul. Say how in the world can you get your sins paid for? Since you have no blood sacrifice and it’s only the blood that will take away your sin.

And of course the correct answer is that Jesus came and once he died, the sacrifices of Israel ceased because the sacrifice that God offered that is the one that you must trust and to be saved has now taken place. And so you can connect the dots for them and point out that their sacrifice has been offered once for all people for all time the Lord Jesus Christ and they need to trust in him. That’s a little bit of a beginning on that but we have a great book here called Handbook on Personal Evangelism that just has a whole chapter on how to talk to Jewish people about Christ.

But you might want to get that and we can just ship it right out to you. But that’s a little bit of a hint. I would go to a couple of the Old Testament passages and talk about Christ and don’t overload them with too much, but give them something to think about and then continue to dialogue and hopefully it will sink in and I will trust the Lord. Charles, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. You’re absolutely right. I mean, Jesus rose, we believe, Saturday, Sunday, which is the beginning of Sunday night.

Then during the day of the daylight that followed the resurrection of Christ, he did appear to those men along the road to a mass. I’ve been to a mass. I’ve been to the place where all this took place. But you know, that was all on the first day, every bit of it. But it was a Christ when they discovered the empty tomb in the morning, Christ had already been risen by at least 12 hours at that point. And it was later that afternoon that he appeared to the middle on the road to a man’s.

Well, I think all this. Well, it is the same that you see the Jews count their day from sundown to sundown. And so you’re still thinking, I think, in the way we count our day, Saturday for us ends at midnight. but for the Jew it ends at sundown Saturday and that begins Sunday. So Sunday night happens first and then Sunday follows. So Saturday as Sunday night began at Saturday 6 p.m., Jesus rose from the dead. The next morning they discovered empty tomb.

Later that afternoon, which is still Sunday, the same day, we find Christ appeared to the disciples on the way to Emmaus. Thank you for that call and I hope that helps explain it for you. We’re now going to go to Yolanda down in Miami, Florida and Yolanda, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Dr. Hank? Yeah. Yes. Hello. I was calling Dr. Hank because I want to make sure, let me turn off my radio. I want to make sure that you explain to me and to the listening audience.

Yesterday you mentioned that Jesus Christ had descended into paradise. Now can you explain to me then why is it that when Jesus walked this earth he spoke to the disciples or his followers saying there was one man named Lazarus and when he died as well as the rich man died they were separated and there was a big hedge between he and the rich man and also he was in the bosom of Abraham. Now where was Abraham and Lazarus and where was this man that was begging for just a little drop of water from Lazarus hands?

Can you explain that to me? Well sure do that. There are… I’m going to hang up and I’m going to listen in. Okay, Yolana. The place in the Old Testament is called shield, S-H-E-O-L, in the Greek in the New Testament it’s called Hades, same place, it’s a hollow place in the heart of the earth where there are two compartments, one of the places of torment where the rich man went and is still there, and the other part is paradise, a place of comfort where Lazarus the beggar went and also where the dying thief went and where Christ went for three days and three nights.

Now if you read Ephesians 4 beginning in verse 8 through 10, it tells us that Christ, now, what is it that when He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive and gave, gives them to men? And He that ascended, what is it, but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? And He that descended is the same that ascended up far above all heavens. Well we find that Christ went down to the heart of the earth, announced victory and delivered all the people that were saved from paradise and took them up to heaven.

Paradise is now in heaven. Basically in Ephesians 4 Christ went for those three days and three nights in the heart of the earth where the believers of the Old Testament were waiting for sin to be paid for. He announces that he had victory over sin and paid for those sins and now delivers those that were captive there waiting for that payment to be made up to heaven. So the Old Testament saints all resided in paradise in the heart of the earth and then they were delivered from there and taken up to heaven by Christ at the end of the three days and now paradise is in heaven itself according to 2 Corinthians 12 1 through 3.

This wraps up today’s question and answer segment about the Bible featuring Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We hope that you have enjoyed it and that you are growing in your knowledge about the Word of God. Hank Lindstrom. . . When we die, as believers were absent from the body, present with the Lord, the Bible . . tells us 2 Corinthians 5, 8. In the Old Testament, that wasn’t true. . You had to go to Paradise and their wait until Christ paid for the full sin debt. . . In the Old Testament, they had what I call a layaway salvation. .

It was laid away for them, but they couldn’t take it home and enjoy it until it was fully . paid for. And Christ made that full and complete payment at the cross. And then He emptied out Paradise and took all those people to heaven. longer does the believer go to the heart of the earth and then go on to heaven, but we go absent from the body, present with the Lord. But look if you will here. It says here, and the earth did quake and the rocks were rent.

And then verse 52, and the graves were opened and many bodies of the saints which slept arose and came out of the graves when, after his resurrection. So when Christ came back from the dead, there were many others that came back from the dead, that were the sampling according to the Old Testament feast, the feast of first fruits which was a picture of harvest and how they would take handfuls of grain, show them to the priest that there was a harvest to come.

Jesus takes several handfuls in a sense of believers and gives them their resurrection bodies in advance. And what do they do? It says they went into the holy city, that’s Jerusalem, and appeared done to many. So Christ fulfilled the third feast, the feast of first fruits, which was a picture of the resurrection. He became when he rose from the fulfillment of that feast day as he fulfilled the Passover. He fulfilled the feast of an oven bread. He now fulfills the feast of first fruits and he gives the sampling of the future resurrection when all of us will receive our resurrection bodies.

And then there’s a fourth feast called Pentecost, the word Pentecost means 50 days and 50 days after the resurrection, Pentecost came and what happened? This age began. We call it the church age, the age of grace, the dispensation of grace, but God now is going to turn to the Gentiles for the past 2000 years. And sure enough, most of us here today are Gentiles. We have a number of Jewish believers here, by the way, that know Jesus Christ as their Messiah.

But for the most part, in this age, we’re Gentile believers. And that Gentile age began at Pentecost, and the Bible tells us it hints that it’ll be about 2000 years in length. And then the next feast, which has to do with the second coming events, the Feast of Trumpets will conclude this age, and that’s when we’re raptured out. There’ll be the sound of the trumpet. All believers will be lifted off this earth when that event takes place. And so these These feast days are extremely significant, and the first four were fulfilled literally on the day.

Christ rose on the feast of first fruit day. The Holy Spirit came on the feast of Pentecost right on the day. So we have every reason to expect that the rapture will happen on the feast of trumpets. That always happens in the fall. Because it is real, we are going to go out. These feast days are significant. What did we just read? That Paul tells us he delivers unto us the gospel that was delivered unto him that Christ died for our sins, how?

According to the Scriptures. And that he was buried. And that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. Wow, there are so many match-ups as we’re just talking now about the feast days and how that his death and his burial, his resurrection, and then the coming and the Holy Spirit at the beginning of this age and the conclusion of Cunning, all matches right up in line with the Old Testament Scriptures the feast days. Doesn’t that excite you?

That lets me know that this book has to be the Word of God. No man, no group of men could have ever put this together and made it come out as it did. You know that God has to be the author of this book and that this must be, obviously, the truth because it’s right on. And you and I can have, therefore, great confidence in the Word of God. Jesus Christ came back from the dead and is alive forevermore.

He’s living right now. Now let’s go over. you would to the book of Acts. Let me first go to chapter 1 verse 3 because I like what Dr. Luke says in Acts chapter 1 verse 3. He says to him also Christ showed himself alive after his passion that speaks of the crucifixion by many what infallible proofs. You might want to mark that. And notice what it says next. Being seen of them how long? 40 days. I don’t don’t know why we don’t get more preaching on the fact that Christ showed Himself alive and preached for 40 days after He came back from the dead.

But you seldom hear about it at all. Maybe you never even knew about it until this morning because it seems like there’s a silence about the fact that Christ, when He came back from the dead, was seen of them 40 days and He preached and taught them during those 40 days. Wow! Just think if you’ve been to a funeral. Maybe you’ve been to one recently. If you stayed long enough at the graveside you may have seen them lower the casket.

Sometimes if you’re there long enough you see them begin to cover it with sand after they put the lid on the on the vault. And let’s say that three days later you have a knock on your door and you open the door and they’re standing before you is the person that you saw buried three days earlier. Most of you probably would pass out. That would be a real shocker, wouldn’t it? But obviously, that would be an infallible proof that that person had come back from the dead.

Jesus Christ showed Himself again and again and again and again. Numerous times over those 40 days in different places at different times of day, demonstrating that that truly heaves back from the dead and invites them to touch him, to handle him, to put their fingers in the marks of his wounds in his hands and in the wound in his side. Notice Christ was alive for 40 days. Then he ascends to heaven and they watch him go out of sight.

Look if you will at verse 9. After he says his final words, which he tells us about this age and the great commission of how there were to be witnesses into all the world. And the Holy Spirit would come to us, and dwell us as believers to empower us to do that. It says in verse 9, when He had spoken these things, verse 9, when He had spoken these things, while they be held, while they were looking on, He was what?

Taken up. I have underscored He was taken up. And notice a cloud received Him out of their sight. This is not the resurrection, this is the ascension. So Christ rose three days after he was crucified, stayed around for forty days, and then his ascension is he ascends up in their sight back to heaven. Look at verse ten, while they look steadfastly toward heaven, as he went up. Mark it again, two men stood by them and white apparel, we believe they are angels, which also said, you men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?

This same Jesus, you might want to mark that phrase, this same Jesus which is what? Taken up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as you’ve seen him go. Boy, that tells us a lot, doesn’t it? The same Jesus that had been crucified, that had been buried, that had risen from the dead, now had showed himself alive for 40 days, ascends up in their presence as they watch him back into the heavens. And the angels say the very same Jesus that they watched leave would come back, and he would come back in the same manner as he had left.

physically, visibly, and we believe to the very same place. He was on the Mount of Olives when this took place. Well Christ goes back to heaven and then Pentecost occurs and on this feast day we have Jewish people from all over the world there for this event and look if you will in Acts 2 now in verse 22 Peter preaches to this crowd. You say, Peter, isn’t he the one? That on the night of the I don’t know the blanket a blank man.

I mean his old sailor language came forth being a fisherman, and he denied three times that he even knew Christ. Well, Peter here now is a different man. Why? He had seen Christ come back from the dead. He was an eyewitness. Look if you will, in verse 32 what Peter says in Acts 2, this Jesus hath God raised up, where of we are all what? We’re witnesses. We saw it. We saw it. I love what John says as he writes his first letter, the epistle there, first John.

He says, this Jesus, he says, we handled him, we touched him, we heard him, we saw him. John was so excited because they knew he was alive. And he’s telling us that after the resurrection, they got to touch him. They got to hold him. They got to look and gaze upon him. They got to hear his words as he spoke. Just like if that friend came and knocked on your door three days after the funeral services, it would scare the living daylights out of you, I’m sure.

But if you could touch that person and hear that person and gaze upon them and see that person, then you’d be convinced that they had come back from the dead, wouldn’t you? And so the disciples were convinced. And Peter says, this Jesus have got raised up. Where of we all are witnesses, referring to all the disciples and others that saw him. They’d all seen that. It’s not just one of us that saw him, we all saw him. And they watched him right till the last moment.

Can you imagine? I wouldn’t have wanted us straight very far from Christ if I had been one of those disciples. And there to be there at that event when he leaves and watch him go back up into the heavens wouldn’t that have been spectacular to observe and say, we saw that. We observed that. We were witnesses of that. Thanks for tuning in today to Bibleline. Today’s program concludes Dr. Lynch-Dham’s teaching series on the resurrection. Well, this is Bibleline. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We’re going to get into the Bible for a few minutes. You know, we believe Christ was crucified on Wednesday of the Crucifixion Week, and that he was buried and then he rose again from the dead. And so Christ was in the grave 72 hours, and so we believe being placed in the grave on Wednesday at sundown, he came out of the grave Saturday at sundown, which if you count by Jewish time from sundown to sundown, and Saturday at sundown is the beginning of Sunday night.

So he rose at the beginning of the first day of the week. And of course it was in the morning twelve hours later the women came and discovered the empty tomb. He was already risen from the dead. Christ when he came back from the dead showed himself alive for forty days and he taught his disciples. They saw him, they touched him, they handled him, Jesus who had come back from the dead. Let me read from 1 John. Here’s John the Apostle and here’s what he says.

He says in verse 1 of 1 John chapter 1, that which was from the beginning. He’s talking about Jesus, who is eternal and was around since the creation because he is the Creator. That which was from beginning he says which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and which we have handled of the Word of Life, talking about Christ. John is saying we touched him, we saw him, we heard him, we handled him, we observed him as disciples for three years and they saw him crucified and they saw him buried and they saw him rise again from the dead.

John declares this one that he was an eyewitness to, that he had come back from the dead. It is alive forevermore. It says in verse 32 of Acts chapter 2 it says, and this is Peter I’m quoting, this Jesus have God raised up where of we are all witnesses. They saw him. He came back from dead. He’s alive. Let me tell you, Muhammad is still dead. Confecious is still dead. Buddha is still dead. And all the founders of all over religions are dead.

And none of them can help you. And their tombs are still occupied. But you know the tomb of Christ is empty. But that’s not true of the founders of all over religions. They’re dead men. They cannot help you. They’re still in their graves. But Christ left an empty tomb. empty tomb. It’s exciting and I know that there’s only one Savior and this Bible declares this whole thing before it ever came to pass and that’s why you can know that it’s true because this book is never wrong.

God’s set an Isaiah chapter 48 verse 4 because I knew that you were obstinate, stubborn, hard to be convinced, iron-necked, stiff-necked, stubborn, obstinate people. He said, I’m going to tell you things before they come to pass. So that when they come to pass, you’ll know that I am the author of this book, and that these things are absolutely true. That’s incredible. And you know that really got my attention when I read that for the first time in Isaiah 48, 4, and 5.

God says, I knew that you were obstinate, brass-headed, iron-necked. He said, because I’m dealing with stiff-necked, iron-necked, stubborn, obstinate people, I’m going to tell you things before they ever come to pass before you ever know them, before you ever discover them. So you can know that this book is true. And sure, the Bible does deliver on that. Unfortunately, most people don’t know a thing about their Bible today because they never read it and they have been cheated by the devil out of the greatest book that has ever been written.

That is God’s own word that God is the author of, but he used human writers to put it down on paper for us. We have a great book and a great God. I’m Dr. Englund. This is Bibleline.
