You’ve picked a great day to join us here on Bibleline since today we will be listening to the beginning of a brand new teaching series on the book of Daniel, featuring the teachings of Dr.
Hank Lindstrom. We hope that you will plan to join us and open your Bible as we spend the next few weeks together in a verse by verse study of the Book of Daniel. You might be familiar with some of the favorite topics from the Book of Daniel, such as Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the fiery furnace, the handwriting on the wall, and the lion’s den. In addition to many exciting prophecies, we will be exploring all of these and more in this teaching series.
If you missed any of the teachings in this series, or if you would like to have Dr. Lindstrom’s entire series on the book of Daniel to add to your personal study library, please call our Resource Center at 1-800-576-3771. Now let’s get right into our study on the book of Daniel. If you can, please open your Bible to the book of Daniel, chapter 1, and join us for Dr. Lindstrom’s teaching for today. All right, we’re ready to start. Turn, if you will, to the book of Daniel.
Daniel, this is class number one as we begin our study of the book of Daniel, 12 chapters long, and that means we’ve got to do a little more than a whole chapter each night. I hope we can keep up that pace. Are you ready? Daniel chapter one is where we are going to begin, And Daniel was an exile prophet. And what that means is that he was a prophet who lived during the time when God carried away the Jewish people out of the land of Israel over to the land of Iraq.
And there they were captive for 70 years. Daniel went as a young man, perhaps a teenager, carried away captive to Babylon. We also were introduced to several of his friends. We normally know them by the Babylonian name, which we’ll talk about, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And we also know that Ezekiel was a prophet during that time, and he was in northern Iraq, And Daniel was in the capital or Babylon in more southern Iraq. But they were there for 70 years.
Okay, so we’re going to get started and if that helps you, that is a 70-year period that is a landmark in the Bible and the Old Testament. There are the pre-exile prophets and then there are the exile prophets and then there are the post-exile prophets, are the ones that followed the 70 years of captivity. Daniel was one that was right in the middle of it. Alright, here we go. Daniel chapter 1, page 898, if you happen to have the Scofield verse 1.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoa’kim, King of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon under Jerusalem and besieged it. So here Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon and the ancient city of Babylon, of course, has never been rebuilt. They have tried, or at least Saddam Hussein had tried to make it a tourist attraction, but it’s really nothing like it was when it was lived in by King Nebuchadnezzar. So in any case, he besieged Jerusalem and Jerusalem was taken, and the Lord gave Jeho’ukim King of Judah into his hand.
That is the hand of Nebuchadnezzar. Now, when we talk about King of Judah, Judah is, of course, the name of one of the 12 tribes of Israel, but also Judah was the name for the two southern tribes. Earlier Assyria had come against the 10 northern tribes and carried them away captive into Assyria, and now here the two southern tribes are now carried away captive by Nebuchadnezzar. So he comes against Jerusalem and the Lord, notice, allows Israel to be taken.
And this was a judgment upon Israel because of her sins. What is interesting is that God had told them, among other things, to let the land rest. And so they were to let the land rest one year for every seven. We do something similar today in crop rotation where we don’t plan the same crop year after year, but we rotate the crops, which gives the land a chance to recover. And God had the plan of just having them not cultivate on that seventh year, but to let the land rest.
And Israel did not do that. And I’m sure they thought, well, you know, God hasn’t done anything about this, so I guess he’s forgotten. And so they continued. And for 490 years, they did not let the land rest, according to his commandment, that they should let it rest one year in every seven. So finally God says you owe me. And so since you would not let the land rest while you were in the land, I’m going to remove the whole nation from off the land.
And since you owe me one for every seven, one seventh of 490 years is 70 years. And so he says I’m going to move you over here. And you’re going to let the land rest for 70 years because you have not done it as you you were told to do. That’s interesting isn’t it? And so sometimes the same principle applies where we don’t give of ourselves to the Lord as we ought to. A lot of people say, well, what do you mean?
Like if you don’t attend church as we ought to, maybe God might call your account due and say, you owe me X number of Sundays and maybe let you have some time in the hospital to just take some time off. And I really believe sometimes that God will call in what we owe him and things like that might happen. I’ve had many a time where somebody would say, you know, I don’t have time to read the Bible. My schedule is too full.
I’m doing this, I’m doing that, and I’m doing the other. And then all of a sudden I get a call from the hospital and they say, you know, I’ve had a wonderful time reading the Bible. I’ve have nothing else really to do here in this hospital room, and so they’re doing some ketchup. But don’t let that happen to you, because sometimes really maybe that might be what’s going on. God might say, all right, you wouldn’t take some time off to spend with me, so I’m going to give you some time off.
I’ll give you some rest time. And so as we think about our obligations as a Christian, not to be saved, but in the Christian life, God asks of us to spend time with him, to read his word, and to serve him, and so on. And if we choose not to, it may be that God might say, okay, but I’m going to require a view this time. And God did that with Israel. So the Lord gave Jeho Kim King of Judea into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinnar to the house of his God, and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God.
Obviously Nebuchadnezzar was unsaid. And he brought the temple vessels from the temple in Jerusalem dedicated to the true and living God, the God of Israel, the God of creation, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob into this foreign land into Iraq. And we find here that the kings speak unto Ash Pines, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel and of the kings’ seed and of the For instance, children in whom was no blemish, but well-favored and skillful in all wisdom and cunning in knowledge and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand on the King’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
So here this man was put in charge to select out certain captives, and Daniel happened to be one of those that was selected. Apparently they were bright young men that they wanted to bring into their system. To be able to have control over all of the captives they had. And so these would become trained in the, I guess you might say the University of Babylon for lack of a better term. And there they would become tools of the Babylonian Empire to make this liaison between the Jews and the Babylonian Kingdom and the Babylonian people.
Verse 5, and the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat and of the wine which he drank, so nourishing them three years at the end thereof they might stand before the king. So, notice this was a three-year educational program at the University of Babylon. I’m calling it that, but it doesn’t say it in the Bible, but basically that was it. And they were given obviously, I’m sure good lodging and the best food they got to eat really of the king’s meat, which was the best, I’m sure, in the land of the wine that he drank.
It says in verse 6, now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hanania, Mishael, and Azariah. Here we have Daniel and three of his friends. seven under whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names, for he gave unto Daniel the name Belt Chazar and to Hananiah of Shadrach and to Misha’el of Misha’k and to Azariah of the name Abednego. And so these were names that they gave them. What was that a part of? was to try to take them away from the God that they had worshiped and had known and tried to recondition them now with these false gods.
We see the same kind of things happening in our world of secularism today where we try to remove our children from the Bible and from prayer and from the God that we as this country claim that we were founded upon Christian principles and the Bible being the Word of God and the first textbook out of schools, the same kind of a thing. It was a way of taking them away from that. And so here they were given Babylonian names after their gods.
Now if you want to make a note here, I have their names written down here someplace in My Scribbles, but they were changed from their Hebrew names to their Babylonian names. Okay, Hanania in the Hebrew means beloved of the Lord. Hanania means beloved of the Lord. Now his new name, the Babylonian name he was given is Shadrach, and Shadrach means illumined by the sun God. He loomened by the sun God. Obviously, this was taking him away from the God that he had been raised to know as a child.
Then Mishael means in the Hebrew, who is as God? That is the word El in his name, which is a form of God’s name, and who is as God. He was apparently God-like in his character. And Hananiah was beloved of God. He was an unusual, sure fellow that loved the Lord. And his new name, Meshach, means who is like Venus. So one of the pagan gods. So he is like Venus. As Aria means in the Hebrew, the Lord is my help.
But he’s given now a new name, Abednego, which means the servant of Nego. the servant of Nigo. And Daniel, which in the Hebrew means, God is my judge, is given the new name, Belchazar, which means whom Bell be El favors. So, notice they’re given brand new names, and this was an attempt in this training program to condition them to be taken away from the God and their history and their past, and now become assimilated by the Babylonian Empire and to now begin to worship the gods of Babylon.
And so these were their names. And we commonly refer to them not by their Hebrew names, but most people talk about them as Meshach and Shadrach and Abednego. Thank you for joining us. We’re going to the Bob and you are on the air. Good morning. Good morning. Last week you did it. The scriptures on the rapture. I try to share that with Tommy. He studies on the Arnold Murray. This guy tells me to read all of his Z keel 13 which is a method to the lying prophet. He said you got to fill a gap and help God fight evil and against those who say the folds would fly.
So how do you kind of defend that? Well, Arnold Murray is all confused and obviously the passage is being taken out of context. In the New Testament it’s very clear that there is a rapture where people will be caught up bodily and meet the Lord in the air, in the clouds, and from that point on we’ll be forever with the Lord and that’s scripture and it’s not the only place where it talks about the rapture but it is one of the most clear portions of scripture you’ll find on the event.
Obviously Ezekiel is not talking about that at all. No, it says he’s talking about prophets which are prophets are all going but how do you kind of debunk all of 13 that it doesn’t kind of to today’s age? is that they just talk to the old profit and otherwise i guess you’d consider all passes and guys like yourself according to that would still be calling your profit would that be fair to say well uh… they might be doing that that the old festival word there would be probably in the modern times or today would be preachers but here it’s talking about the false preachers of that time and the rapture is not there the rapture is not in the old testament at all and it’s not even talking about preachers or lying prophets talking about the rapture.
This is clearly talking about a time when Israel was in captivity, Ezekiel was one of the captivity prophets, and he warns about the false teachings of those prophets in those days as they didn’t listen to God’s Word, and that’s what got him into trouble to begin with. They were in captivity in Babylon because they refused to listen to God’s Word and because they had gone after other gods and listened to other messages which were not true. And so God said there would be no peace to them.
Verse 16 of chapter 13 of Ezekiel says to wit or that is to say the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem and we see visions of peace for her and there is no peace sayeth the Lord God. In other words they’re lying. It’s not true. They’re not going to be peace for Jerusalem because only christal bring about peace and that’ll be of course that is second coming yeah well any road here also but he was telling me verbally that uh…
that you had to stand in the gap to help god fight evil which i don’t really think you need more than to help it fight anything and that was kind of what i get found a mary refer back to the equals that the deal thirteen about flying in the soul and i think it might be even a little sarcastic with his way into the hand of and know that you’ll fly away. So that has nothing, okay, so that makes sense.
It’s all has to do with prior to the New Testament anyway. He’s talking about the Prophet. Yeah, and first of all, Andrew Murray teaches you to lose your salvation. His message for salvation is all about works and how you can lose it, and so your friend is not saved, therefore. And neither is Arnold Murray, and obviously the Bible is not going to make any sense the people who don’t know the Lord. The primary issue here is getting your friends saved.
Forget the rapture. Just tell him what do you have to do to go to heaven and find out obviously that it’s by works and you can lose it and he needs to get saved. Then maybe he’ll be able to comprehend the truth about the rapture and other doctrines. All right. Well, great. Thank you. And you have a nice day. Okay. Thank you, George. You know, the Bible tells us and tell a person to get saved. The Bible isn’t going to make a whole lot of sense.
And obviously there are those who are preachers DISTRICED TO The Bible says that you can do it if you’re not saved and you just try to twist it around. Once you become saved, the Bible fits like a glove. It all tells one story without contradiction and you can trust what it says. We have Carol in Tampa, Florida and Carol, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Hello, this is Carol from Tampa. Yes, Carol. I go back to Ephesians for by grace are you saved through faith and not of yourselves?
It is the gifts of God. I go back to that every time I have any questions. But now that we’re on the subject and I’ve been looking at how many times I have the word then marked in Matthew 24, could you go down into verse 29 and 30 because I’ve got an awful lot of highlighting there and I just need a little clarification on that and I’ll hang up and listen to you. Alright Carol in verse 29 we have the second coming of Christ.
This is not about the Rapture. Actually in Matthew 24 I believe when Christ is asked the question of verse 3 what shall be the sign of I coming, he then takes us all the way after the Rapture to the seven years of tribulation and the signs that will be obvious on the earth that will be the signs of his second coming. So we’re very close and these signs are already happening here on the earth, wars and rumors of wars and pestilences that’s incurable diseases, earthquakes and diverse places.
We had a 5.2 last week in Indiana here in the States, an unlikely place for a big earthquake and yet they’re happening all over the place. So we’re living, I think, seeing all these things already coming to pass anti-Semitism on the rise and the hatred for Jewish people is certainly in the news all the time. A bitter job wants to destroy the nation of Israel and kill all the Jews and we’re seeing these things in the headlines right now.
But it says in verse 29, immediately after the tribulation of those days. We just mentioned it would be a seven-year tribulation period. In the middle of that seven years, the antichrist will stop the sacrifices that will have been resumed. And it says immediately at the end of that tribulation period, the sun shall be darkened, the moon shall not give her light. It says in verse 30, then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of God coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
So that’s the second coming. And that’s when Christ will establish His kingdom here on this earth as He’ll rule and reign as King of kings and Lord of Lords over the entire earth. But that’s what had happened. So this is a chapter about the signs of His coming, not the rapture, The second coming which will happen at the end of the Tribulation, verse 29 says immediately after the Tribulation period is over, then you will see the Son of Man coming in power in great glory as he comes back into Heavens.
And we will light up the Heavens as he comes with his angels and he comes in all of his power and all of his glory. We hope that you are learning with us. From Dr. Hank Lynch to him. Don’t go away Bibleline will be back in a moment. To pledge your support for Bibleline, give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. We’re going to turn to our Bibles now and we’re going to go to Matthew 24. Jesus says in verse 15, when you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet stand in the holy place. Who so read it to let him understand? Well, first of all, there is no holy place today on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and so this could not be fulfilled right now.
But we know that after the rapture, which could happen at any time, I believe we’re getting very close, when the Lord will come and snatch out all the believers, will meet Him in the air, and will be transformed into our new bodies on the way up, and will be forever with the Lord. When that happens, then on the earth, a third temple is going to be rebuilt. And we know that all the preparations have already been made ready for that.
The stones have been cut. The garbards of the priesthood have been made. The implements for worship have been established. And we’re right there. And it says here that the Antichrist will place an image of himself in that third temple. And it says here when you see that, then that marks the difference here in what is going to happen during the tribulation period. This happens, we know midway. How do we know it happens midway? Well, I’m going to tell you why we know it happens midway.
If you turn to the book of Daniel, Daniel talks about the same event and he talks about in chapter nine of Daniel, the Antichrist and how the Antichrist will make a treaty with Israel and allow them to offer sacrifices in their temple again on the temple mount. In Daniel 9, 27, it says, and he the Antichrist shall confirm the covenant with many. I believe that’s the many Jews that are back in the state of Israel right now. And so here it says that he the Antichrist will confirm the covenant with many, many of the many Jews that are back in the state of Israel for one week of years.
That is the seven years of tribulation that we often talk about. And then it says in the midst of the week, that’s dead center right in the middle of the week or three and a half years into the tribulation period, the Antichrist will cause the sacrifice and the oblation to stop. So he will interrupt the sacrifices that will have been offered since the beginning of the tribulation right after the rapture and he will cause them to cease. He will then enter into that third temple and desecrate it and place his image there and that’s what we’re reading about in Matthew chapter 24.
And we find that there’s a key word there in verse 15. It says, when you therefore shall see. When is the time word and then you’ll find several other words that link to that in the context here. Verse 16 it says then and in verse 21 it says then in verse 9 it says then and the thens are connected to the when and if you will read carefully when the Antichrist places his image in the third temple that’s right in the middle of the seven year period then several things will happen.
It says then those which be in Judea that’s the area around Jerusalem shall flee into the mountains. And of course that means they’re going to have to run for their lives because the Antichrist will now turn on the Jewish people. We also learn from verse 9 it says, then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you. So Jewish people are going to be slaughtered and it says here and you’ll be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.
So right in the middle of the tribulation period when the Antichrist goes into the third temple and desecrates it and places his abomination, his image in that temple. It’s an instruction to those who are reading the Bible who are believers in that time to run for their lives. And guess where they’ll run to the mountains? That’s over to Jordan where there is a rock city prepared for the Jews to hide, and their God will miraculously feed them and care for them during the tribulation period.
It says in verse 21, and here’s another then, there’s then and then here in connection with the when of verse 15 in Matthew 24, and it says, and then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world of this time, then nor shall ever be. In other words, if you look back in history, you’ll never find a time as bad as this seven years will be. Even if you look to the future after this time, there will never be another time like it again.
So the darkest time in history is yet ahead of us. I’m glad I’m leaving it the rapture. And it could be that the Lord would come this year. Would not be something. In any case, we know that this will be a time when the Jewish people will come under the attack of the Antichrist. We’re going to rejoin stations that have been on breaking to the second half hour by one, so keep you ready to tune right where it is.

Now please join us as we return to our question and answer segment and then we’ll return for more Bible teaching from Dr. Lindstrom. We’re now going to go to Albert. And Albert is in Richmond, Virginia. And Albert, welcome to the Bible.
Yes, sir. My question was, I heard you talk a week before I asked about Acts 2 and 3 about this is that that was spoken of by the Prophet Joel. I’ve always thought that that was talking about the Holy Spirit being poured out on all flesh. I’ve been reading it for the past week and I can’t seem to get it clear in my mind about it. It looks like when I read Joel it kind of talks about the same thing about Acts, talks but the sun being turned dark and the moon and the blood and all and…
Well it quotes that old passage but those things did not take place at the first coming, it will take place at the second coming and it’s really a prophecy about the second coming. But Peter is saying not this is the fulfillment of that passage in Joel but this is the same Holy Spirit that Joel spoke about that Israel will have poured out upon them and upon everybody on the whole planet at the Second Coming was poured out upon believers, the body of believers at Pentecost.
And it’s not yet been fulfilled, just the part of the Holy Spirit given to us during this age. But Albert, that’s talking about something future. You’ll notice in verse 28 of Joel 2, it says, afterward, and the afterward in the context of Joel is after the destruction of Russia, the Battle of Armageddon, after Christ is returned and is actually living in Jerusalem on this earth as king, then he, Christ, will pour out his spirit upon all flesh. Right now, not all flesh has the Holy Spirit.
I mean, if you went in a just about a two block radius of my church, you’ll find lots of people that do not have the Holy Spirit. You could drive through my neighborhood. Most of my neighbors do not have the Holy Spirit. If you’re not saved, you don’t have the Holy Spirit. And at the end of the Tribulation, when all the unsaved on the earth are destroyed, Christ will come back and pour out His Spirit upon all those that are left, which are all believers, and everybody will have the Holy Spirit.
So I hope that helps a little bit, and thank you for that call. But He doesn’t use the word fulfilled in Acts 2. Peter says this is that which was spoken about by Joel, the Holy Spirit that will be be given to the whole world at the end of the tribulation was given to the believers only at Pentecost and ever since every believer receives the Holy Spirit but not all flesh. Not all flesh today have the Holy Spirit. I wish they did but they’re not saved and so they can’t receive the Holy Spirit.
Right now we’re going to Tony in Tampa and Tony welcome to Bibleline you are on the air. Good morning Dr. Anker. Actually, I would like you to read Daniel chapter 2 verse 35. And would you agree there would be the mountain? Mountain would be the nation of Christian Christ, who establish on this earth, a nation which are mountain in the Bible and it’s a mission that’s symbolized by mountain. That’s what I want to get to before I make my comment.
Okay, well in Daniel we have the mountain there is actually, it is Jesus who is a stone cut out of the mountain who will come and fall on the toes of the image and actually destroy the Gentile world powers that have grown since ancient Babylon down to this present time and now compass the, not only Europe, but also the Americas and the United States being the principal player. And so the stone that is cut out of the mountain without hands is Christ.
It says in verse 34, Alsace Tellastone was cut out without hands which smote the image upon the feet. And, that were part of, iron and part of clay and break them into pieces. Then was the iron and the clay, brass and silver, the gold, broken the pieces together. So the whole thing comes unglued. And we find here that the stone that spoke to became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. That’s the millennial kingdom and there you’re right.
And that’s the thousand year reign of Christ where Christ will rule the reign for a thousand years. So the stone is Christ and the kingdom he establishes is the thousand year kingdom right after the rapture. What I want to get to is that over the Bible we see in prophecy mountain symbolized nations. So what I would like to call you to understand, you need to consider that case before you said that Israel gone free to Jordan, which you consider gone be in peace in the time of the anti-Christia.
But Christ, what he refers to here is the nation. And another thing is you want to be a little more careful when you go and number Israel, from the beginning, the Bible will tell you that it will scatter Israel all over the earth and you cannot number them. So at the time of the end, the command is to live and then the nation because they are going to be persecuted. that hey, really, Israel, but that hey, all over, you can mix in the nation.
But that’s what I wanted to say that mountain is nation-sarc, just like it is in Revelation 17. Okay, well thank you very much. We know that Israel is scattered, but many, many Jews have gone back to the land and every one of them will be gathered back to the land from all over the world, from wherever they might be once Christ returns to the Second Coming. But only those that are believers, all unbelievers, whether Jewish or Gentiles, will be destroyed in the Second Coming when this mountain, this stone, comes and crashes down and defeats the armies of this world.
But thank you for that call, Tony, and we’re now going to go to Betty in Beverly Hills, Florida, and Betty, welcome to Bible End. Yes, good morning brother Lindstrom. I want to tell you I thank my God every day for every Remembrance of you and wish you a happy birthday. Yes, thank you You’re welcome yesterday morning. I began watching and listening to Christian programming around six in the morning And I heard no one mentioned Passover So I had I knew darn well I said you would be mentioning Passover so we streamed you as we do every day actually and we listened to you Sunday morning and I’m so grateful to you for laying the foundation which I believe biblical Judaism is the foundation of biblical Christianity and I do thank you so much for explaining all of that.
I’m not going to be labor that point. I want to draw this to your attention and just run it by you and see what you think regarding the Jewish people fleeing to Petra. I have read that another name for Petra is Bose-Roth and that means she pulled, which really thrilled me when I consider the sheep of the shepherd being protected in that sheep fold. I am speaking particularly Brother Lindstrom of Isaiah 26 versus 20 and 21. I have been taught that this is a direct connection to that instance that will happen in the future It says, come my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee.
Hide thyself, as it were, for a little moment until the indignation be overpassed. I believe the indignation is a direct reference to the tribulation. Verse 21, For behold, the Lord cometh out of his place, to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. the earth also shall disclose her blood and shall no more cover her flame. And this is read out of the old school field study Bible that we purchased from you. Can I have your run on this?
This is, I think, talking about the tribulation period and the Jewish people. The Lord will come out of His place at the end of the seven years to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. All unbelievers will be destroyed. Christ will establish His kingdom and then He will personally, according to Isaiah chapter 16 lead all these Jewish people out of Petra into the Promised Land, and he obviously promises them peace for the entire thousand year period while he rules here on the earth.
Thank you, Betty. And it’s true, the Jewish people have sort of missed the whole point about Passover, and that is the blood of the Lamb that was to be applied, and how that it was by the blood of the Passover Lamb that they were delivered out of Egypt. But I found very little verbiage among the Jewish people as I read and hear what they’re saying about their own Passover. They simply seem to focus on the suffering and the bitterness of their Egyptian experience and about bondage and slavery, but nothing about the blood of the Lamb, which is of course talking about Christ.

Now please join us as we continue the book of Daniel teaching series from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. And we commonly refer to them not by their Hebrew names but most people talk about them as Meshach and Shadrach and Abednego.
The story is told about little boy came home from Sunday school and asked what he had learned and he told his mother we learned about real estate. She said, real estate, what do you mean? She said, we learned about your shack, my shack and a bungalow. As I said in the book of Daniel, all right. We’ll leave the joke telling to something else. Yes, sir? Daniel means God is my judge and the new name Belchazar means whom bell favors.
Alright, now verse 8, it says, but Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with a portion of the king’s meat nor with the wine which he drank. Look at Daniel and an unusual man, he says, I’m not going to defile myself. Now what was wrong with eating the king’s meat? was probably offered to pagan gods and false gods. And so he didn’t want to eat meat that was offered up to a false god. We find something similar in Corinthians in the New Testament where Paul talked about eating meat that was sacrificed to one of the pagan gods there in Corinth.
And basically he said idols are nothing and so on. But if you went to one of the meat markets there in Corinth, you might go to Jupiter’s meat market and buy meat offered up to Jupiter or to one of the other Greek gods. And if people saw you doing that, they would probably think that you believed in that god because you chose that particular market to that was offering up meat for sale that had been offered to that god and so on.
So Paul said, if that be the case, I will eat no meat at all because I I just don’t want to mislead people as to what God I believe in. And the truth concerning idols and gods that are false, there are really nothing and it wouldn’t hurt me to eat that meat, but I don’t want to mislead people in having them think. So if he says somebody sets meat before you, don’t ask any questions. But if they tell you that it’s offered up to Zeus or some other God, then he said, You really have an obligation to say, then, I don’t believe in Zeus, or I don’t believe in Jupiter, or I don’t believe in Mercury, or what are the other Greek gods.
And so, but if you didn’t ask, eat, doesn’t matter, doesn’t hurt you to eat that meat, but if you are somehow giving approval or consent to that God as being a real God, then you’re obviously violating Scripture. You know, 2 John tells us something similar. It says if you are dealing with people that are unsaved, that do not have the doctrine of Christ, it says don’t bid them God’s speed. For if you bid them God’s speed, you’re partaker of their evil deeds.
So let’s say a cult member comes to your door. You don’t ever want to say because maybe they’re hot and they’re sweaty and they’re really trying their best to win you over to become a Jehovah’s Witness or Mormon or something else. Don’t ever say, God bless you. You know, I know you’re trying your best and you’re doing a good job and we don’t want to ever pronounce God’s blessing upon him because then you’re a partaker of their evil deed.
So when they come to me, I try to leave them very uncomfortable. I have to tell them that what you believe is not the truth and if you die believing what you believe, you’re gonna wind up in hell, even though you don’t believe in hell, but you will be in hell one day. And I’m praying for you that you’ll come to know the truth, because what you believe is not what the Bible teaches, and you’re not gonna make heaven.
So I have determined a long time ago that I’d be straight shooting with the cults when I come to my door, and tell them that they’re not gonna make heaven. They’re not even gonna make the new earth. But they are going to a place that they don’t even believe in, which is called the eternal hell, the lake of fire. Unless they recognize Jesus Christ being God who came and died on the cross and paid for their sins. 2 John, verse 9 says, Whosoever transgresses in abiteth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God?
So guess what? The Jehovah’s Witnesses do not have God. The Mormons do not have God. And the Muslims don’t have God. All of these reject the gospel of Jesus and the doctrine of Christ and therefore their false. And we cannot say, God bless you, because then we’re partaker of their evil deeds. I think we have to say in all the love that we can show them that we care about //[ you, but you’re lost without Christ. And I cannot endorse your false belief system.
And I think that as a Christian, we need to be careful that we don’t. And Daniel was that way. He purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat were in Daniel 1 verse 8, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. So that is Daniel rather than, you know, go on a strike and say, I’m not going to eat until, you know, you change your mind or some type of rebellion here.
He makes a request and he says, can we go ahead and not defile ourselves by eating these things? And verse 9, look at this. Now God has brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the index. Isn’t that interesting how God works? So the head guy liked Daniel and God is the one that brought him into favor and tender love with the prince of the index. Notice verse 10, and the prince of the Eunuch said unto Daniel, I fear my Lord the king.
You know this, I’m doing my job here, and the king will have my neck if I don’t follow the rules. And so he says here, I fear my Lord the king who hath appointed your meat and your drink, for why should he see your faces worse than the children which are of your sword? Then shall you make me endanger what? That’s just my job, but my head is on the line here. My king will have my head on a plate.
I’ll be dead if I don’t follow the rules here.” And then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the Unix is said over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Don’t you love that name Melzar? If you’re going to have any children sometime and you’re in a male, name your child, you can think about these names here. Melzar, he was the head guy. Well, he says here, prove thy servants, I pray thee, or beseech thee, ten days, and then let them give us pulse to eat and water to drink, then let our countas be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat the portion of the king’s meat as thou seest, and as thou seest deal with thy servants.
So let’s get a 10-day test. So here he proposes, let’s try this and if it doesn’t work out, all right. And so he consented to them in this matter and tested them, proved them 10 days. Verse 15, at the end of the 10 days, their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which had eaten the portion of the king’s meat. Thus, Melzar took away the portion of their meat and the wine that they should drink and gave them pulse, which is, I guess, like a lentil soup of some sort.
And then, verse 17, when they gave them their SAT test here, it says, as for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom. And Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. And at the end of the days that the king had said that he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar and the king communed with them, and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hanania, Mishael, Azariah, therefore they stood before the king.
In all matters of wisdom and understanding that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were at all of his realm. Can you imagine? Wow. So we talk about passing the test. They were smarter, brighter, healthier looking, and they ate not of the king’s meat nor of his wine. Daniel had purposed in his heart. Now, we’re going to take a look at another passage as you think about that and hold your place here in Daniel, but let’s go over now to first chronicles.
First chronicles. Now you say where is first chronicles? Well, it’s probably right before second chronicles, and that’s where we’re going to go. We’re going to go to second chronicles, page 504. Be sure to tune in to another edition of Bibleline from Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida. This will be a time when the Jewish people will come under the attack of the Antichrist and according to the book of Zachariah in the Old Testament, two-thirds of the Jewish people in Israel will be killed by the Antichrist. In chapter 13 of Zechariah it says, and it shall come to pass, that in all the land, that is the land of Israel, this is Zechariah 13 verse 9.
Sayeth the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die, but the third part shall be left therein. So we find that two-thirds of the Jews in the state of Israel, and there’s right now about six million Jewish people in Israel. Two-thirds of them, or four million, will be killed. Two million will survive, and those two million apparently become saved. They become believers. It says in verse 9, I’ll bring the third part through the fire and we’ll refine them as silver as refined and we’ll try them as gold as tried and they shall what?
Call on my name Zechariah 13 9. They’ll call on my name and that’s how you get saved. They call on the name of Yeshua or in English it’s spelled Jesus. They’ll trust in Christ the Savior. They’ll call upon the name of the Lord and it says and I will hear them, and I will say it is by people, and they shall say, the Lord is my God.” Wow, what a great time this is going to be. Many, many millions will get saved during the tribulation period, including two million apparently in the state of Israel, and the other four million in Israel will be slaughtered, as they will not follow the instructions given in the Bible to run for the lives.
And what is so interesting, we just returned from Israel, and we were down at the Dead Sea, and the Dead Sea surface has been going down because of evaporation, because they’re not allowing water from the Jordan to flow into the Dead Sea any longer. But there’s been a sandbar there apparently forever that has not been seen, but today it’s absolutely dry land. There’s like a highway that cuts diagonally right across the Dead Sea. And if you run a line on a map from Jerusalem to Petra, the rock city where the Jewish people flee to, It cuts right across this diagonal sandbar and people will walk across on dry land.
It’s amazing God has already prepared the way for them to flee quickly from the Antichrist into Jordan which will remain politically neutral during the tribulation period. It’s exciting stuff. I’m so glad I’m a believer. You know, to be saved to go to heaven to have eternal life, you must trust Jesus Christ as being God, who came and took on human flesh, went to the cross of Calvary, paid your sin debt and full by his death and shed blood was buried, and rose again from the dead.
Church membership doesn’t save you, water baptism doesn’t save you, living the Christian life doesn’t save you, prayers don’t save you, mass doesn’t save you, penance doesn’t save you, you can list all kinds of things, but none of them will save you. trusting Christ will save. And the Bible says very clearly, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. The word believe means to trust. When you trust that He is the one who made the full payment for your sin at the cross was buried in rose again from the dead God saves, all those that trust in Him.
And we’re living in exciting days. I think we’re living right at the edge where the Lord is going to come and snatch us out. And then God will return to His plan for Israel, the third temple will be rebuilt, the Antichrist three and a half years in will stop the sacrifices that will have been resumed. He will desecrate the temple with his image, he will turn on the Jewish people, another holocaust will occur on the earth and then at the end of that seven years Christ will come back and he will defeat the armies of this world and establish his kingdom and he shall reign forever and ever.
That is a phrase right out of the book of Revelation where Christ comes back and takes over this world and He’ll rule and reign forever and ever and ever. In any case, we’ve got to run, but we’ll be back tomorrow. So keep looking up. Jesus is coming and we believe soon. God bless. Have a great day. We’ll see you tomorrow here on Bible Eye.
