Now if you can, please open your Bible to the Book of Daniel chapter 1 and join us for Dr.
Lynch from teaching for today. Today, hold your place here in Daniel, but let’s go over now to first chronicles. First chronicles. Now you say, where is first chronicles? Well, it’s probably right before second chronicles, and that’s where we’re going to go. We’re going to go to second chronicles, page 504, second Chronicles chapter 16 page 5 And here’s a very interesting passage. We’re just going to lift out one verse here and talk about it and talk about the principle that applies here to Daniel and also to people just like you and me.
In Second Chronicles chapter 16 and verse 9, it says, The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is Sincere, the word perfect is used here, but it means upright, sincere, honest, straightforward with God, that God is looking. Can you imagine God’s eyes are just going back and forth throughout all the world. He’s looking for guys like Daniel. He’s looking for, you know, guys or women just out there that would be wanting to please the Lord that are unique in that they have a heart to please God and they’re sincere before the Lord, they’re upright before the Lord, they want God’s will in their life.
And so God says here that he’s looking for those that he might show himself strong on their behalf. Well, look at what happened. Daniel and his three friends were really captives in a foreign land. They were captives of a foreign government. They were really, in a sense, slaves and had to obey at risk of their life if they disobeyed whatever the king of Nebuchadnezzar asked of them. What happens? Daniel purposed from the very beginning that he wanted to please God, didn’t he?
Daniel 1a. So he purposed in his heart that he didn’t want to file himself with the king’s meat. He wanted to live and please the Lord in289 his life. What happens? God becomes strong on the behalf of Daniel and his three friends, and he brings the head guy that’s over Daniel into favor with Daniel, and that guy liked Daniel and his three friends. So he was willing to listen, and then Daniel makes a request and proposes a solution. And notice they accept it, and when they try it or test it out, it comes to pass.
And you know, God is looking right here in this room, and He’s looking for people who want to mean business with God, and He wants to bless you and use you as He used Daniel. He’s looking for poor Daniels and for others that have become greatly used in the Bible. And you’ll find often times it’s not because of the unique talents that they have or the abilities that they have, but God is looking at the heart or the mind and asking himself, is there somebody out there that really cares about serving me and living for me?
And we have to decide to be that person and God will use this. I’ll never forget an experience I had as I entered the University of Florida as a freshman. And since I was in junior high, I loved science, and that was the course of my life. I was headed toward a science field, and I entered the University of Florida planning to go into engineering because I just loved all that stuff. And in high school, I’ll never forget, I took all the sciences, and I was particularly flattered that when I was in physics in my senior year, whenever the teacher would be absent, she would appoint me to teach the class.
And I thought, how was I big stuff here? I got to be the teacher of the physics class. And I just loved math and science, and that was something I pride myself in. Well, here I get to the University of Florida, and we have this big meeting that they had for freshmen, which was the Dean of the Engineering Schools and all the different students here from all the different schools of engineering, whether it be chemistry or nuclear engineering or electrical engineering and all the different branches were all there in this one big group.
And he welcomed us to the University of Florida. And he was a very imposing man, a big man and he had a big cigar that was a lit, He kept bringing it his mouth and chewing on that thing as he gave his little talk to us. And he was a kind of a man that looked like, you know, you need to be afraid of this guy because this guy, you know, if you get on his bad side, he could really mess up your whole life.
And so as I listened to him, there was one part of that whole talk he gave that I’ll never forget. At one point, he said, I want everyone here. He’d welcomed us and told us about the school and this, not the other. But he said, I want everyone here now to take and turn to your right and look at the person to your right. And so everybody turned their head and we looked at the person to our right. He says, now I want you to turn to the left and look at the person to your left.
And so everybody in the room was turning their head to look at the person to their left. He says, now I want you to turn all the way around and look at the person behind you. And everybody turned their head and looked at the person behind them. Now he says, I want you to look at that person in front of you. He says, you looked at four persons and he says, none of these people will be here on graduation day.
He says, this program flunks out 80% of those that enter the program. And so you looked at it four out of five and 80% here in this room are not going to make it. I scared the living daylights out of me. I said, man, I’ve been planning my life around going in this direction. And here I am, and he’s telling me 80% are going to flunk out. Well, I don’t know what anybody else did, but I said, whoops, I mean, I go home as often as I might…?
Have planned. I may not participate in sports as much as I had thought I would, and I may not be able to do anything on the weekend. I might have to really just dedicate all my time to my studies, And I made a decision that I’m going to make it, no matter what. I was going to finish my degree and I was going to pass. And it was a good wake up call for me because I was in there as a freshman and they know here we are, we’re going to have a great time in college and he woke me up real quick and I said I have to get serious.
If I want to pursue this degree, I better get serious because 80% are going to flunk out. And I’m glad I had that little experience because then when I made my decision about serving the Lord, I realized that not many people make it, but most people flunk out of the program. Most Christians, I believe, never amount to hill of beans for God, and most of them kind of flunk out. And so I made a decision that I was going to make it.
And I think as a Christian that you have to make that kind of decision. Daniel was that kind of man. He purposed in his heart. that he was not going to file himself with the king’s meat. He already determined where he stood with God and with this foreign country where he was now a prisoner, a captive in a foreign land. I want you to look at another passage. This is an interesting one back in the book of Judges as we look at this.
And this is a fascinating passage. And I’ll give you the page number as soon as I arrive. The story told to us in chapter 2 of the book of Judges page 288, if you have the Scofield Bible which we recommend as a wonderful study aid when you’re in God’s Word. Judges chapter 2, here we have the story of, we don’t have the story there, we’re looking for the story of Gideon, it’s chapter 7, excuse me, Judges, chapter 7, Gideon was told by the Lord that he wanted him to raise up an army to go against the enemy that was against them, which was the Midianites.
And the Midianites had an army of 150,000 men that were coming against Israel. And so Gideon gathers together a number of soldiers. Actually he gathered together 32,000, which really wasn’t very much. They were outnumbered five to one from the get-go by the Midianite army of 150,000. But look at what happens in verse two where God talks to Gideon and it says in Judges 7, verse 2, page 295, and the Lord said in the Gideon, the people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands.
Lest Israel would boast or brag about their superiority and say, my own hand hath saved me. God didn’t want them to get the credit. He didn’t want them to boast and say, you know, we are the elite troops of the Israeli Army. And we took out these Midianites. It was easy for us to do because we’re tough. Well, God says I’m not going to allow for that. So he says you have too many soldiers. Now can you imagine any battlefield commander being told he had too many troops?
We want you to send some of them home. So here’s what he was told to do in verse 3. Now therefore go and proclaim in the years of the people saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid. Let him return and go home. Wow. Can you imagine if a battle commander did that with his troops? probably all of them would leave, you would think. I don’t like, I’m afraid of battle, I’m afraid of warfare, they would all say, I’m ready to go home.
If they gave the troops that option in Iraq, wouldn’t they all come home? I think they’d all say, yep, we’re out of here. We’re here for the parade, definitely, let us go. So let him return. And look at how many chicken soldiers there were in the Israeli army. They’re returned of the people twenty and two thousand and there remained ten thousand. So twenty two thousand soldiers said, see, we’re out of here. Twenty two thousand went home. Now Gideon’s army is reduced to ten thousand.
He’s outnumbered now fifteen to one against an army of a hundred and fifty thousand. He’s only got ten thousand soldiers. Thank you for joining us. We hope that you’re enjoying today’s teaching on the book of Daniel. You’re listening to Bibleline with your host, Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Now please join us for a segment featuring Dr. Lindstrom answering questions from callers. We’re now going to go to Hollywood Florida and we have Harold on the line down there. And Harold welcome to Bibleline. It’s great to hear from you. Well, happy Pass, Oba. Well, thank you. And I’ll throw in a happy birthday. How’s that? That’s even better. Well, it’s nice speaking with you again with that magnetic voice Unfortunately, I can’t get your program because Don’t leave home without it change my schedule Well, it’s too bad, but you get near it on the internet though right if you yeah, but I don’t have I don’t use a computer Oh, well, I read a lot and that’s why I called I need a little Bible lesson today I’m one of your students and I like to talk about Jesus That okay?
That’d be fine, you sure. You know, there’s so much Bible talk going on on this TV every day and you can’t get away from it. But when I want to hear the truth, I called you because this is our anniversary. The first time I ever called you was in April last year. Isn’t that something? Wow. And I still support you, ministry, because I would like to ask you this question. It’s regarding Jesus. And I wrote some notes down here that I heard on these people and they quote Jesus as the message he gives is and love.
I agree with that. I’ll go along with that. And then the other item I heard today was of course the Pope. And one of his interpreters says that speaks through the Pope in matters of faith and morals. Can you explain to me is that Jesus telling him in his ear something like that? What does he say? Well, obviously the Bible is the way God speaks to us in as true as word and anyone who is proclaiming what the Bible teaches is obviously proclaiming the words of God or of Christ.
But if they are making it up then they are not. And so we have to be obviously carefully checking out what we’re hearing against the Bible which is the authority. I love Isaiah 8-20 where it says, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. And oftentimes we hear things that are told to us that really contradict the Bible and are not from the Bible. for in those cases they are wrong.
But whenever they teach what the Bible teaches and they’re teaching truth, this is the word of God is what is called truth. And Christ Himself is the way the truth and the life. And so when we are in line with the Bible, we’ve got the truth and when we don’t stay in line with the Bible, we are in error. Oh boy, I’m glad you mentioned that. I was gonna ask you about that verse. You mentioned the verse just now, the truth.
Is that correct? That’s correct. okay now why then isn’t that the most important message to give in all the bible to all the bible state that they certainly do afraid most most people are reading their bible but what bible when you say the bible uh… the other day they were had a big conference of you are on religion and politics now uh… hillary is a methodist and now bomber are they talking about the same bible no i mean is the methodist by the same as whatever obama’s bible is or whatever’s a jewish bible is what’s the story on that it seems to me it’s not in the bible and in other words every bible has that quote everybody was a quote and uh…
obviously they are not familiar with the bible and i quote in the bible so that they can make up things and and i give you their perception of what they think the bible says when often times what we’re being told is not really in the bible at all dr. hank If that’s the most important, and I believe that’s the most important statement made, why do they not say that? There isn’t one person when they get on, they keep you say it because you mentioned the Schofield Bible, right?
That’s cool. that’s correct so why isn’t that quoted that the way the light the truth boy saying that Can you tell me why? Probably because they think that that would cause division. They want to get the widest audience to support them and vote for them. I guess in politics, that’s what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to make everybody happy. And John 14, 6 is pretty exclusive. Christ says, I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life.
And no man cometh unto the Father but by me. So obviously Christ does not tell us that everybody’s going to make it. but only those that come through him to the Father are going to make heaven. So obviously they don’t want to use anything that would sound in any way as being divisive or narrow or exclusive. So you’re saying to me as I’m learning from you that the truth doesn’t matter to them. If that was the truth, they can’t avoid it.
They can’t say that. They have to say it. They have to say it as you said it. and they’re rewarded they’re avoiding it i agree that i think that’s what they’re doing they’re avoiding the truth right they’re avoiding the truth and i keep it doesn’t matter who’s up on that stage they will not date that first i’m afraid you’re absolutely right and it’s scary really when we uh… can’t trust our leaders to to speak on the truth well that’s why i’ve been sending out i don’t have a computer but i’ve been sending out mallegrams when i said yesterday to uh…
mister or i’ll be you know mister or i’ll be on foxes a iris catholic and and he’s preaching that jesus if we all follow jesus compassion peace and love it’ll bring us together and he mentioned he doesn’t say anything but if you do not accept a measure lord and savior you condemn to help no he won’t say that either i’m sure oh no he won’t say it nobody says it but that but anyway well i say i mean you know people if you’re going to join the club play by the rules i will continue to uh…
uh… support your ministry class i’d like to hear what you say and i get a bible lesson for a jewish eight years and i say shalom and have a good birthday stay healthy we need you thank you harold salom to you take care of it Harold and in Hollywood, Florida. And pray for Harold, we trust that he will trust the Lord. It sounds to me like he’s getting closer all the time. But truly Christ is the way, the truth and the life, and then no man.
I don’t care who you are, where you live, what your background is, what your skin color is. God so loved the world. He gave his only begotten son. And then Christ tells us very plainly in John 14, 6, I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life. And no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. We have Sarah in Chattanooga, Tennessee that has left us an offer question. She says, please expound on predestination. And she is asking, I think, some from a verse in Romans.
You know, predestination is a word that scares a lot of people, but God is predestined to save all that would believe on Jesus Christ. And he is predestined that all those that would not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ would be lost. D.L. Moody said it as simply as I’ve ever heard it. He said the Whosoever wills are the elect and the Whosoever won’ts are the non-elect. And basically that’s it. So John 3 16 has predestination in it, doesn’t it?
It says for God’s soul of the world that’s the whole human race, that he gave his only begotten son, that Jesus Christ, that whoso ever believeth in him should not perish because Christ perished in their place but have everlasting life. So what was predetermined? Before the foundations of the earth, God chose that whoso ever would believe on Christ would not perish but have eternal life. But he also determined that those that would not believe would perish and not have everlasting life.
So Sarah, I hope that helps. We hope that you are learning with us as we listen to this question and answer segment featuring Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We hope that you’ll visit our website often. It’s time for us to take a short break now. Bibleline will be back in a moment. pledge your support for Bibleline. Give us a Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771.
That’s 1-800-576-3771. Alright, we’re going to get into the Bible. If you have your Bible, get it open and please study along with us. And if you have your Bible open there, turn it to the book of Matthew. We had somebody bring up, they wrote me a letter about the 10 virgins. They said that basically that not all would go up in the Rapture. Five would be left behind. And obviously they don’t know much about the Scripture because this is not talking about the Rapture.
It’s talking about the Second Coming. You have to be able to rightly divide the Word and be able to separate between the Rapture and the Second Coming. They are totally two different events. the rapture, Christ is not coming as a king, but he comes as the head of the church and will catch the believers up to himself to meet us in the air. And then God will begin the seven-year tribulation period, which will be a period of preparing Israel to receive her king.
And when the bridegroom comes at the end of that seven-year period, that’s of course when the second coming will occur at the end of the tribulation period. So let’s go over to Matthew 25 and what is interesting here that you can get right to the point as you go to the end of this particular parable and we find that Jesus says to the five foolish virgins in verse 12, verily I say unto you, I know you not. That means that we’re never saved.
I know you not. The Bible is very clear in 1 Timothy chapter 1 verse 19, or chapter 2 verse 19. He says, the Lord knows those that are his. The foundation of the Lord stands sure that he knows those that are his. So if you are saved, once you become born again, once you trust the Lord of Savior, the Lord knows those that are his. You become his, he’s bought you, he’s paid for you, you’re saved, you’re saved forever.
And so whenever he says, I know you not, that means you were never saved and these five foolish virgins were never saved. It’s talking about the Second Coming and we find here that the marriage and the celebration that follows is what is being spoken about here and that’s the millennium. The marriage suffer of the Lamb is a thousand years celebration. Well, the whole earth will be at peace and the animals at the peace. The nations will learn more and more.
And the whole earth will celebrate the marriage of Christ to his Lamb to rather to is bride and as he comes back Israel will receive Christ as their king and the kingdom will be gone. So here the five foolish virgins were never saved to begin with. They never did know the Lord of Savior and obviously therefore they are not going to enter in. In Matthew 7 we have something similar where we have people that claim to be Christians and they preach in the name of Christ and they heal in the name of Christ and they do wonderful works in the name of Christ, and Jesus says to them, I never knew you.
I never knew you. So obviously they were not saved and lost. He never knew them. And you either are saved or you are lost. And when you trust Christ, you become saved and saved eternally from that moment on. Once you become saved, it is irreversible. Let me just quote some great verses that you need to write down someplace. John 637, Jesus says, Him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out. That means for no reason or no instance will Christ ever cast out a believer, one who has come to Him.
And better than that, in verse 39 where he says, He would not lose one. Not one would ever be lost. Let me quote it. It says, This is the Father’s will which has sent me. And of all which have given me, I I should lose none, not one. Not one would ever be lost. Think about this. If one person were ever lost in all of history that had come to Christ. Jesus would be a liar. He promised he would not lose one.
How do you get around that? Jesus would not lose one. You know, if it said he would lose one, all of my life, I’d have to worry. Maybe I’m the one he’s going to lose. Oh, panic, panic. All my life, I’d have to panic and be living in fear that I might be the very one that he would lose. It’s so great to see that Christ said he would not lose one. Not one would be lost. Write those down.
John 637, him that come to me I will know why’s cast out. He’ll never cast out anyone who has come to him. And secondly, he says he would not lose one. Anyway, we are going to go back into the second half hour Bible. And so I hope you’ll keep your radio right where it is and here we go. We’re going to do Bibleline in the second half hour right now. Would you like to help Bibleline continue in your area?

We hope that you are learning with us as we listen to questions from Bibleline callers and answers from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Have you been able to join us for Dr. Lindstrom’s teaching series on the book of Daniel? This series covers a variety of topics from the Book of Daniel, such as Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the fiery furnace, the handwriting on the wall, and the lion’s den, in addition to many exciting prophecies, and we will be exploring all of these and more in this teaching series.
We hope that you plan to join us and open your Bible for a verse by verse study of the Book of Daniel. If you have missed any of the teaching in this series, please call our Resource Center at 1-800-576-3771. Now please join us as we return to our question and answer segment and then we’ll return for more Bible teaching from Dr. Lindstrom. We have Jim in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Jim, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Good morning, Pastor Lindstrom.
I heard you speaking on the turning black and the moon turning the blood. What I’m going to say, it doesn’t make me right and it doesn’t make me wrong. When not, when crass was in the transition between the death and the resurrection, that the main light went out and when the moon turned to blood, the early under blood shed for the gospel and I’m going to hang up and listen to you a little bit and thank you. Alright, I think we’re back to the passage in Joel where it spoke about these events, which are really second coming events which are clearly said to us in Matthew 24 when Christ was asked about his second coming and what would be the signs.
And we know that there’s going to be lots of different things happening, but the Battle of Armageddon and the return of Christ will bring about the sun being darkened and the moon being blacked out and the stars or perhaps missiles falling or meteorites falling down upon the earth, and then we have Christ coming in all of His power and all of His glory. But the Holy Spirit, who will be poured out in the Second Coming, upon everyone living, everyone living will have the Holy Spirit.
And that’s because all the unbelievers will be destroyed, only believers will be left, but everybody will have the Holy Spirit. That has never yet happened. And obviously it didn’t happen at the First Coming. Peter on the day of Pentecost is saying that the same Holy Spirit that Joel predicted would be given by Christ to everybody on the whole planet all flesh would receive the Holy Spirit is the same spirit given in Pentecost to those believers At Pentecost it was only a hundred and twenty gathered together in the upper room that received the Holy Spirit So all flesh didn’t get the Holy Spirit But throughout this age everybody who comes to know Christ the Savior receives the Holy Spirit at the moment of trusting Christ and possess him forever and ever and ever and obviously these are the same.
But once the rapture happens and the tribulation period is underway millions and millions of people get saved and at the end of the tribulation when Christ comes back and defeats the armies of this world and destroys all unbelievers then every The biggest thing that hasn’t happened is that at no time yet has everybody on the planet all flesh received the Holy Spirit. That’s still to come. It will happen the second coming and of course and only believers will get the Holy Spirit because only believers will be left.
Thank you Jim and I think it was a good point and hopefully that’s brought some clarification. We now have Brad in Clearwater and Brad, welcome to my blind, you are on the air. Good morning Pastor Armstrong. Good morning. I thought I heard you last week tell a listener that during the tribulation that the Antichrist would destroy the Roman Catholic Church and I was going to ask you is that because the false prophet will have sided with the universalist. I’ll hang out to listen to your response by radio.
Well it says that the church system, the religious system of Revelation 17 will be destroyed. I believe the chapter pretty clearly identifies it as being Rome, and the Antichrist himself is going to proclaim to be God, so he’s going to get rid of all churches, period zero. No church is left on the planet. He’s going to wipe out the competition, and he’s going to, according to 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, go into the third temple and proclaim that he is God and demand to be worshiped.
And the Bible tells us that during the Tribulation period they’ll actually worship the beast who is the Antichrist, and he’s going to eliminate all other forms of worship. So it’s going to be a radical change and it will happen, we believe, during the tribulation period. So that’s what’s going to go on. And it has nothing to do with who sides with who here. It’s really all about the Antichrist wanting all of the glory for himself. We’re now going to go to Dave in St.
Petersburg. Dave, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes, Pastor I. I’m going to map you 24, 29, 30, the central B. Darkin and the Moon, Shannak River Light. That’s watching on the prophecy and the news. They did a study through NASA, apparently you can get on the NASA website, that in the year 2014 through 2015, which is actually from September 25th of 2014 through the 13th of 2015, there are going to be four lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses.
The four lunar eclipses are going to be on Passover, April 15th of 2014. Then the Feast of Trumpets on 10-8, and then 2015 is going to be on Passover and 4-4. in and nine in a nine twenty eight the piece of trumpets two thousand fifteen and then the solar eclipse is is going to be on russia china two thousand fifteen that’s all very interesting i hadn’t uh… been aware of that yeah but that’s that that’s the other side that’s the list of the moon back to give a light and the sun’s gonna be darkened and that’s when price is supposed to come back after the tribulation excellent well i think it’s a that it’s a seven years so i think everybody’s a star Maybe you can’t sit Dave to start looking up there you go for feast the trumpet this year Thank you, Dave.
That’s great. All right, David with some information there about the Sun and the moon We have Martha in Bradenton, Florida, and she says please rightly divine verses That speak about salvation and then also maybe discipleship. How do you do that? Well a good clear example and there are tons of them is in Matthew 11 28 Verse 28 is about salvation. It says, come unto me. All ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Everything is there.
Come unto me. That’s all you have to do to be saved. Christ is already provided for salvation. You simply come to Him and it’s open to everyone. All that labor and are heavy laden. And notice He says, I will give. Salvation is a gift. You simply receive But then if you go on to verse 29 and 30, he then talks about the Christian life. So I would draw a line between Matthew 11, 28 and verse 29 and 30 because 29 and 30 are talking about the Christian life.
He then says, take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lonely and heart and you shall find rest under your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. So verse 29 and third you’re talking about Christian service and he’s talking here about two different kinds of rest. In verse 28 the fact that you can rest in the fact that your salvation is secure. It’s settled and you can have that assurance.
It’s given in verse 28. But verse 29 is talking about a different kind of rest. A rest, even though your life might be in turmoil, you might be going through great struggles in your life. You could have a peace that passes all understanding that comes as a result of being in God’s will and serving Him. So that’s a good example. I hope that helps Martha, but you separate from, as we did in James 2. James is talking about the rest of the rest of the world.
to my brethren, the believer, he introduces the fact that we have been born again, James 118. A new birth has occurred, but now that we’re believers we ought to be serving, and James is talking about the Christian life. I hope that helps. We now have Tom in St. Petersburg and Tom. Welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Thank you, brother. God bless you. I just a quick question that, at least on two occasions this morning, you referred to the unbelievers at the end time being destroyed.
And there’s a lot of people who’ve been trying to paint different pictures of what that destroyed is. So I was just going to be just taking a minute and give the Bible clarification when you talk about destroyed as far as being the everlasting punishment in the lake of fire and just clarify that. So somebody might not get the wrong idea that they’re obliterated and if that’s what’s going to happen ultimately then there’s no consequence for not turning to Christ.
I’ll hang up the most of your response. Well, the answer is in 2 Thessalonians 1, 8, and 9 where it says Christ will come back in flaming fire, taking vengeance on all of them that no, not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power. So they’ll be separated from God forever and ever and ever, and all unbelievers will be wiped out at the Second Coming.
We’re out of time. I can’t believe it. This wraps up today’s question and answer segment about the Bible featuring Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Now please join us as we continue the book of Daniel teaching series from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Now Gideon’s army has reduced to 10,000.
He’s outnumbered now 15 to 1 against an army of 150,000. He’s only got 10,000 soldiers. And the Lord said in verse 4 unto Gideon, the people are yet too many. Gideon is probably having heart failure. He said, by we’re gonna have a stroke. What am I gonna do? What do you mean I have too many soldiers? He says, I want you, God tells Gideon, to bring them down to the body of water and I’ll try them for thee there.
And it shall be that of whom I say unto thee, this shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee. And if whosoever I shall say unto thee, this shall not go with thee, the same shall not go. So he brought them down, brought down the people under the water. and the Lord said in the Gideon, everyone that lapeth of the water with his tongue as a dog lapeth, him shall thou set by himself. Likewise, everyone that boweth down upon the knees to drink, and the number of them that lapped putting their hand to their mouth were 300 men, and all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.
So what happens? He tests them at this water. I have been there before, and this is like going to silver springs. The water at this place is gorgeous, absolutely clear. It’s about 30 or 40 feet deep. You can just look down from the edge of the water and see all the fish that are there. They’re totally exposed. What a beautiful place. Beautiful green grass. It’s a Israeli vacation spot in Israel today. You wanna go there, like you’d go to Silver Springs or Wiki Watcher.
Someplace we have real clear water, spring water. And this is exactly the place where Gideon took him. This will be a place where you feel like you just want to jump in and enjoy the water, which many today do in Israel. He was looking for those that really meant business and I believe were disciplined. The ones that would bring the water in their hands and up to their mouth and drink were to be noted. But the ones that just got in the water, you know, got their body down there and everything else to drink, then they were to be discounted.
And there were only 300. And God said, with these 300, verse 7, the Lord said in the Gideon, by the 300 men that I have lapped will I save you. 300. He says here and deliver the Midianites into thine hand and let all the other people go home. Let them go back to their own place. Say, goodbye, go home. Well, when you think about that and you think about the percentage, 320 men out of the original army of 332,000 men would be 1%.
And so 300 out of the 320 that we just mentioned would be less than 1% would wind up being used by God. Now I wonder if that applies today and I think perhaps it does. When there’s an emphasis, you know, people talking about discipleship, sometimes they make it a condition for salvation because they’re so desperate to get people to do something. But in the Bible, you’ll find that most people didn’t do things for God. They never mounted to a hill of beans for God.
So God says, I’m going to show you that with these 300, I’ll win the battle. So that would mean that if we had 100 people in this room that maybe one or maybe none in this room would ever mean a hill of beans to God. We’d never do anything great for God. And those kind of things, I could relate back to what that dean of engineering college said to us that day that most of you’re going to flunk out.
and perhaps in Christianity maybe 99% would rather just go home, avoid a conflict, avoid a battle. The Bible says that we’re in the Lord’s army, except for the Baptist, in the Lord’s Navy. But otherwise we’re all in the Lord’s army. We’re all to be doing battle for God. And we find that God is only going to use those special ones. Daniel was a special man and his three friends are special. determined not to defile themselves. And so what does God say?
We just saw it in Second Chronicles. His eyes are running to and fro throughout the whole earth. He’s looking for somebody like these 300 men that get in use. He’s looking for a Daniel, somebody that’s sincere. And he says, I’m going to be strong on your behalf. How in the world did they win that battle? Because God was on their side and God allowed them to win the victory. And that’s why Daniel and his friends were able to be blessed such that God used Daniel in such a mighty way is because God was strong on the behalf of Daniel and God blessed Daniel.
So here really is a secret. If you want to know a secret, you have to purpose in your heart that you’re going to not defile yourself, but you’re going to live for the Lord. You have to purpose that. And God uses and delights in using just the few, doesn’t he? Look at Christ with twelve disciples. And when you read the book of Acts it says, these men have turned the world upside down. Can you imagine? A handful of disciples turning the world upside down.
Actually, they were turning the world right side up. The world was upside down and they were turning the right side up. I think we need to get that record straight. A lot of times I talk to people and they say, look, you’re confusing me. I say, no, I’m getting you unconfused. You’ve been confused all your life. I’m getting you in confused. And I think we ought to have the confidence to know that the Bible has the right side up and that we have the truth and that people disagree with the Bible are the ones that are confused.
And they need to be un-confused. And the only way they can do that is to have God’s Word brought to them. And all of us are given the privilege of being able to do that. But most people aren’t going to amount to a hill of beings for God. So I began to realize early on that if I was going to have people that I had led to Christ, the Lord, I was going to have to win a bunch because very few would ever go on to really amount much for God.
Most people will be distracted by the things of this world and by the other things that pull on their lives. And so God says that He uses a few that are willing to mean business. Even in a story where Christ healed the ten lepers, do you remember what happened? One of them came and followed Christ and came to Him and said, thank you. Thank Thank you for healing me.” And he says, 1-10 that I healed, where are the other nine?
They didn’t even take time to say thank you. They didn’t even say… Thank you Lord for healing me of that dreaded disease. And as believers, I think we all ought to, as that chorus says, we ought to say thank you Lord for saving my soul. Thank you Lord for making me whole. And appreciate what he did for us at Calvary and the price that he paid to save us so that we would choose to be willing to spend of ourselves to be used of him.
And I think this first chapter of Daniel sets the tone and hopefully the tone of his class where you have to ask yourself, are you like a Daniel? Are you one of those who already makes a decision before you’re confronted with things that are going to be contrary to what Christ would have you to do, that you’re going to follow His Word, you’re going to be true to His Word, you’re not going to violate His Word, and that was the kind of man Daniel was.
He purposed before it ever happened that he was not going to file himself. He was going live for the Lord and God is looking for those kinds and He will show Himself strong on their behalf. And so you might say, well, I don’t know that I have many talents or I don’t know how much ability or I have these limitations. You’re the person God’s looking for. He says, I want to show myself strong through you. And what happens then?
God gets the glory. If the big army had beat the Midianites, then they could have taken credit and said, hey, we had a great commander, we’ve got great training, we’ve got great weapons, and we were prepared well and we had a great strategy and we took those Midianites out. And they could boast and brag about that. But you know, it was clear in the eyes of everyone that it was God who won that victory for them, that God delivered them.
Same thing out of Egypt when they came out of Egypt. Israel was defenseless. They were slaves. How in the world could they overcome the power of the mighty Pharaoh, the most powerful man on the earth who had the latest weapons and the latest chariots and the latest spears and spearmen and trained soldiers and he could just cut down an enemy just by a single command that they would go and take him out. And here were people that were just slaves and yet God defeated the whole Egyptian army.
You know, the whole army drowned in the Red Sea. Critics of the Bible, of course, have said that it was really not the Red Sea. It was the Reed Sea, and they actually crossed in a march. It was only about six inches deep. And one college student heard his professor say something like that, and he raised his hand and said, may I say something? And the professor said, yes. And he said, you know, I’m glad you brought that up, up because that’s a greater miracle than I ever thought had happened.
Can you imagine the whole Egyptian army drowned in six inches of water? Well obviously that put the professor down in his place. But you know, think about it. It wasn’t six inches deep. The whole Egyptian army got wiped out. And today what is interesting is that they have photographs of these chariots lying on the bottom of the Red Sea right where they were when those Egyptian soldiers were drowned in that event. Not one of them lived, the Bible says.
God loves to use the small and the weak. Let’s turn if you will to first Corinthians. And I wanted to do this tonight because I think this may get as excited about Daniel and how that we can be like a Daniel. It doesn’t require anything but are being sincere to please God and to follow His direction in our life and our purpose that we’re not going to be defiled. Today we’re living in a world of compromise. Churches are compromising doctrine left and right, they’re compromising their principles left and right and it’s a world of compromise and people selling out.
And I believe that that we are obligated not to sell it. And I think we have to determine that we’re not going to sell out at any price, that we can’t be bought, that we can’t be paid off to change our gospel or change our message or to get approval to change what you have to say. I know that I’m pressured all the time to tone it down a little bit because I’ve been pretty straightforward in what I believe and what I say.
I’ve been pressured over the years. Can’t you back down a little bit? And I’ve chosen not to, even if it means I don’t have a platform anymore, I don’t determine that I’m not going to change the message to please anybody. Because there’s only one person that we should please and that is the Lord. And he’s the one we’ll have to give an account to one day, not any other group or body here on this Earth. We’d like to continue with Dr.

That means you’re not keeping your salvation. You are not keeping your salvation. God is keeping you saved. We are kept saved by the power of God. And Jesus is actually holding you. He’s keeping you saved according to the Bible. And so I hope that you will just take those verses and write them down and memorize them.
Obviously, this is the assurance that we can have as believers. In Hebrews chapter 13 and verse 5, it says there, and this is the words of Christ. He says, I will never leave thee, and I will never forsake thee. Now never means never. Jesus says, I’ll never leave thee. Think about this scenario. Let’s say you did leave your salvation and you went to hell. Jesus would have to go to hell with you. He said, I will never leave you.
never happen. Jesus will never go to hell. And obviously, if Jesus makes the promise, I will never leave you. And I will never forsake you. How can you ever want to have been hell? How can you ever become lost once you become saved? He says, I will never leave you. I’ll never forsake you. Unbelievable. But it’s amazing what people believe. And if you believe you can lose it, you really don’t have much right because you don’t have salvation right, which is the foundation.
And if you believe in G’lizzy, you’re really saying you have to do something, you get it or keep it. And if you are saying that, then you’re trusting in your works for your salvation. And my friend, you’re not saved. I’ll never forget a young man I talked to years ago. And I asked him where he’d go when he died. And he said, heaven. I said, how do you know? He says, I’ve trusted Jesus Christ as my savior. I asked him a question.
I said, well, what if you don’t read your Bible anymore? What What if you don’t go to church anymore? What if you backslide and you die? What would happen then? Oh, he said I’d go to hell. I said you’re not saved. He said yes I am. I said no you’re not. He said yes I am. I said no you’re not. I said the reason why you’re not saved is because you’re trusting in your works. He said no I’m not.
I said yes you are. He said no I’m not. I said yes you are. And I said let me just explain it this way. And maybe I’ve got it wrong. Let’s just ask you the question here. Are you telling me that from this moment on if you lived a Christian life successfully and you die that you’re going to heaven?” He said, yeah, that’s exactly right. I said, but are you telling me that from this moment on, if you don’t live the Christian life successfully and you backslide and quit serving the Lord, and that then you’ll go to hell?
He said, yeah, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Well, don’t you see what you’re saying? You’re saying that from this point until when you die, what you do, whether you serve the Lord or whether you don’t serve the Lord, whether you backslide or whether you don’t backslide is what determines what you’re going you’re going to go to heaven. That’s works. You’re trusting in your works. And I said, you’re lost. You’re not saved. And anyway, the next day I saw him again and he said, you know, I couldn’t sleep all last night.
And I thought about what you said. And I realized you were right. And somewhere during the middle of the night, he got saved. He trusted Jesus Christ alone, realizing it was not based on his works, what he did in the past or what he’s doing in the present or what he’ll do in the future. is what Christ did for him at the cross that would save him. He says, but I’ve got a big problem. I said, what’s your big problem?
He says, I need to tell my dad. I said, well, what’s the problem with telling your dad? He says, well, my dad is a preacher. And he’s the one that taught me the other way. I said, well, I understand. But I said, would you do the same thing that I did with you, with your dad? Say, dad, is this what you teach? That if I live the Christian life from this point on faithfully, I’m not going to be saved according to the Bible.
If I’m trusting in what I’m going to do or not going to do, if I’m trusting in how I live my life to save me, that’s works. and you’ll not be saved. Again, we have to run. God bless. Keep looking up. Jesus is coming, and we believe He’s coming soon. You’ve been listening to Bibleline, a presentation of Bibleline Ministries of Tampa, Florida.
