Now open your Bible to the book of Revelation chapter 1 and join us for Dr. Lynch from teaching for today. Verse 21. He says, I gave her space to repent of her fornication. That’s her spiritual adultery and she repented not.
So this period comes to a close because of the church going further into corruption and not carrying the message. But look at verse 22, and this is most amazing. Behold, I will cast her into a bed and them that commit adultery with her that it’s others outside of this church system into great tribulation. What it’s saying here, there are those of this persuasion. And if you look here at the church age, I haven’t divided into seven spaces and they’re not obviously to scale.
But the first is the church at Ephesus, the second, the church at Smyrna, the third, the church at Pergamos, the fourth one being the church from the eighth to the 14th centuries, the church at Thyroid Tera. And what it’s saying is that those of this persuasion because of the false teaching are not saved. And so the descendants of this group will go right into the tribulation period. They’ll not be raptured. They’ll be left behind. And so what it saying here is that those of this evil persuasion that began in the eighth to 14th centuries, those who still embrace these false doctrines will not be saved obviously and therefore he says I’ll send them right into the tribulation period.
They will not be raptured out and they will what will happen to them. It says here except they repent of their deeds. So if they change their mind about their false worship and simply receive Christ, then we’re talking about The Roman Catholic Church today is comprised of over a billion people. That’s a lot of people that have come under this system and are blinded as to how to be saved. And according to the Catholic Church, you’re saved incrementally. Every time you go to the Mass, you’re forgiven.
Then you go out and sin, you go to the priest, you’re assigned penance, you’re eligible to go to the Mass again, then you’re forgiven of that Mass again. If you die in the week or if you get near death, you call for the priest and he has a last mass with you called last rites. If you die in war, I think the priest has according to the Catholic doctrine, five days to get to your corpse so he can, and they have a mass kit.
They carry along, they say the last mass over your body and you can get your sins cleaned up until the last moment of your life. But this is totally false that you can go back again and again. week a lady called me and she said I’m four years behind in my sin. So what do you mean? Well she had moved down here and hadn’t been to the Catholic Church and since she hadn’t attended Mass in four years she said I’m four years behind.
What do I do? I said, you call the right person. And of course, I told her about how Jesus paid for all of her sins. She could get caught up immediately. And all of her past, present and future sins would be paid for in her entirety if she would only trust Christ and letter to Christ. But the Roman Catholic system is that you get behind and you have to keep going to mass to get caught up and be current with your salvation.
Then it says in verse 23, speaking of the descendants of the system, I will kill her children with what? Death. I believe this is spiritual death. I believe this is the second death. I believe this is the one that the promise of verse 11 tells us that our believers that are overcomers will not be hurt of what? The second death. These will be hurt with death. They will be cast into the everlasting lake of fire. They will experience hell forever, which is called the second death.
So he says, I’ll kill her children with death and all the churches shall know that I am here that search at the reins and hearts and I will give them to every one of you according to your works. So those that die without Christ as their only means of salvation will experience eternal death and they’ll also be accorded a degree of punishment according to their works. Verse 24, notice he recognizes that there is a remnant of true believers all the way down through time that genuinely believe the truth.
And so he includes them in verse 24. But under you I say and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, those that didn’t believe in works for salvation and salvation through the Mass, but through faith in Christ. He says, I say unto you and unto the rest of the entire tier, as many as have not this doctrine of which have not known the depths of Satan as they speak, I will put upon you none other burden, but that which you have already hold fast till I come.
So for those that had the truth, he says, hold fast to the truth that you have. That was about as much as they could handle. He didn’t put any of the burdens upon them, but just hold tight to the truth because the peer pressure and the strength of this church was extremely strong. And we find that there were those that did hold to the truth, and some of those groups were greatly persecuted for their faith and killed because of their faith.
In fact, at the Council of Trent in 1554, the Roman Catholic Church pronounced about 100 anathemas, which were crimes committed against the Catholic Church that were worthy of death. And one of those which was that if you were to say that you’re saved by Jesus Christ apart from the Church, that was worthy of death. Hundreds of thousands of Christians were killed for just testifying that they were saved by faith alone. Most people are not reading history. The Roman Catholic Church and the Inquisition, if you read about how that went through Europe, lies the most evil and torturous ways of getting people to reject their faith in Christ and claim loyalty to the church for their salvation.
You probably have heard of the lead boot where they would pour a boot full of molten lead and force the one who believed in Christ to put his foot in there or recant and claim loyalty to the Catholic Church. Also the Iron Maiden was a method of torture by the inquisitors of the Roman Catholic Church who went out and persecuted those who believed in salvation just by faith. That was like a casket standing upright with all kinds of spikes in the lid of that and they would close it on you.
The spikes would begin to pierce through your body and unless you hollowed out and recanted your faith in Christ, claim loyal to the Catholic Church. This thing would press these spikes all the way through your body as they would close it and you would die a horrible death of all these spikes going through your body. And you can read. There are a lot of books and you can get your encyclopedic out and read of the terrible tortures that the Catholic church brought upon believers during that time.
No wonder people fled Europe like rats off of a sinking boat to try to find religious freedom. If you remember our country’s history, people fled Europe to find religious freedom here. Freedom from what? From the tyranny of the Roman Catholic Church that would torture you and burn you at the stake for just claiming that you’re saved by faith in Jesus Christ. And we aren’t told that when we study our history. APPLIC:::::::: Romoryu establish freedom of religion that they can teach and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ without persecution.
All 13 colonies had that in their charter. Just go on internet and look up some of the charters of the 13 colonies. It’ll bless your soul to read about these people and say we’re finally in a place where we can preach about Jesus, teach about Jesus. The first textbook in our schools was the Bible and we can do that without fear. in Europe. Uh-uh. You know the Catholic Church hated those that translated into the Bible into the language of the people.
Wycliffe, one of the forerunners of the King James translation, worked on the Bible in translating it into English. And it was a major contributor. In fact, a lot of missionaries who go to tribes that have never had the Bible are called Wycliffe missionaries because they go and take the Bible and translate it into the language of those people. And you’ve probably heard of the Wycliffe translators today. They are missionaries who go and bring the Bible to those people. But after Wycliffe died, the Roman Catholic Church was so incensed against him because he put the Bible into the English language so people could read the Bible for themselves which obviously flame the fires of the Reformation, that they exhumed his body and they took and burnt his body after they dug him up out of the grave.
And then they tossed his ashes in the river Thames there in London. And in an interesting way, it became really a statement, I think, because as the Thames River took his ashes out to the sea, into the oceans of the world, so did the work of Wycliffe take the word of God around the world to people who wanted to hear it in their language. And these were days of great persecution upon genuine Christians, and all you have to do is get your history out and start reading it.
You’ll be just amazed at what was done during that time. down to verse 26 and here’s an opportunity for us to practice rightly dividing the word of truth. We have two things going on at the same time. Here’s the first time now when we read an overcoming promise that also has a promise not just to the believer but to the believer who is working and the rewards that will accompany that. Let’s read it. Verse 26, He that overcometh, comma, stop.
And then it says, and keepeth my works under the end. Now for Overcoming an overcomer is just a believer. Let’s read the promise now associated with being an overcomer It’s in verse 28. I will give him one the morning star the morning star is Jesus Thank you for joining us. Now, please join us for a segment featuring Dr. Lindstrom answering questions from callers. We’re going to go to Mark and Newport Richie. Mark, welcome to Bible Eye. Thank you, sir. I’d like to bring up the subject here real quickly. Well, I think you’re right. And certainly the weapons, are we getting there out there?
Right. And I do a Bible study, and we’ve been studying the Book of Isaiah. And in the Book of Isaiah, if you look in every high mountain and upon water ditches in the day of the big slaughter when the towers fall. And I’m taking it when the towers fall. It also means to be like the twit. What do you think that has anything to do with it or not? I don’t know if it’s a direct reference to that, but definitely probably tall buildings around the world are going to go down.
The Bible says that the major cities all around the world are going to be destroyed. And certainly that’s a prelude to what is going to happen. I’m sure of that. I think we’re watching really that 9-11 event mark the beginning of this confrontation between the Muslim world and Israel and the Western world. So we’re obviously seeing that conflict develop and it’s not over. Now, also talking about the Muslims, okay? Now, in Revelation talks about the disgusting thing. Correct? What are you talking about?
What chapter or what verses? Oh, I… Oh, I don’t know exactly which one. But it talks about a disgusting thing that has to be taken out. i think one of the discussing things that is happening i don’t think about people realize that is that the jewish temple with torn down of course completely torn down by the roman and now over it that’s correct there is thought to mosque in fact i don’t know about when i think that is completely uh…
i mean that gotta make you this pretty mad and god i mean Well, obviously it is a blasphemy for the Jew to see a pagan mosque on top of their holy place. Now did you have a speaker come in one time? Gershahn Solomon, right from Jerusalem, is the head of the Temple Mount Faithful that have been making the preparations for the rebuilding of that temple. Well they’re going to build another temple. Yeah they are. They’re going to build a temple.
I mean because there has been no temple I’ve rebuilt since the world. It was the second temple that was built after the Babylonian captivity. The next temple is hanging out there and is apparently the desire to rebuild it and the plans to rebuild it are already underway. Once the rapture happens, I think it’s going to go up. Where’s it going to be built at? Right on the Temple Mount. They’re going to have to tear down the two moths. Apparently something will happen whether they’re torn down, blown up or some kind of a…
Because you know what’s going to happen when they try to tear those moths down. Oh yeah. yeah you got that right yet well i’m a firm believer in gee’s i’ve accepted use my savior why only i only have one question i mean i’m i’m is that i mean i do i try to stay away from settle i just don’t see though how you can say that if you got somebody but this is a fork i mean i’ve accepted gee’s but if i go out and kill somebody i can’t see how i’ll be able to get to have it okay it’s a good question The answer is, is that Christ died to pay for your past, present, and future sins, and He gives you the gift of eternal life at the moment you believe.
But that doesn’t mean you could go out and live as you please without giving you consequences. And the consequences though for the believer are not hell. He promises he’ll never cast you out. He’ll never lose you, but he does promise to discipline the delinquent believer, and that might even mean taking you home to heaven early. the believer doesn’t have a license to sin but the believer is going to come under God’s discipline if he sins against the Lord. We’re gonna go John and Ruskin.
John welcome to Bibleline good morning doctor. Good morning. I have a question here and before you start to explain I’ll hang up. My question is pertaining to the testimony outwardly that a Christian gives for example in dressing. I am told that the mequas is a sign of slavery in those days, you know, and the other is that cosmetics are made out of the fetuses and placentas. And yet today you see so many believers and Christians and let’s say in the past of faith who still wear these things and who still use these things.
And my question to you is, is there anything in the scriptures that gives you more or less a text as to what a Christian should wear, how Christians should look. Magic was supposed to be to look different than those there in the world with us, right? Absolutely. Even in mundane lifestyles. So I believe we shouldn’t dress as they do. But I just want to find out if you can comment on this. All right. Our blessing, thank you. All right.
And we’ll do that. That was John and Ruskin. First Peter chapter three talks about at least the women there. And it talks about who’s adorning. Let it not be the outward adorning of the plating of the hair or the wearing of gold or the putting out of apparel. And some have taken that to the extreme and said you can’t wear any jewelry and you can’t have your hair done up. But if you follow the text there and take it literally, then it says, or they’re putting out of apparel, I guess you’d have to be a nudist.
So I don’t think God has that in mind. But I simply think it’s saying in contrast to that, it says, let it be the hidden man of the heart, which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit. So what people really ought to see is not our clothing statement, but rather the statement of who we are. And so the person that people ought to see and who we ought to be recognized for is who we really are.
The real person, the real us, and that ought to be the dress that we have in a sense. But I don’t think it hurts for a person to fix up their hair and put on makeup and so on. Some people do that to an extreme where they’re just concentrating on their physical appearance. And really what really ought to show through is not the physical appearance, but it’s the real person inside. And I think that’s true for men and women.
So I think obviously it’s not that we cannot do those things. I think we ought to. And we’d all look kind of silly if we didn’t comb our hair in the morning, wouldn’t we? I don’t think you’d want to see me go out in public if I hadn’t comb my hair in the morning. and I would wanna see you. So I think we gotta slick up and look decent, but the real person is what people ought to see, the fact that you’re honest, you’re genuine, that you love the Lord, and that you’re attempting to live your life for Him.
And I think people can tell. Thank you for that call. We’re going to take a call from Todd and Tampa welcome to Bibleline Todd. I Hank. Good morning. Good morning. I wanted to ask you if you think that in order for the Antichrist to come that well he actually solved the economic problems of the world and when you see the things happening today will be in the trade scene down and inflation and deflation and different things. Do you think that possibility that America and other nations might get into economic problems?
collapsed. Well for sure in the tribulation period you know it talks about apparent financial collapses it talks about though there money will be pretty much worthless they’ll throw it in the streets because it won’t buy anything so I think there will be a time like that but I’m hoping at least it doesn’t happen before you go out here but there’s some difficult times described in the Bible for the tribulation period and definitely the Bible talks about an and economic collapse in the tribulation period.
So it’s gonna be a difficult time to live. And people that don’t know Christ are gonna rally behind the Antichrist and he’s gonna appear to have the answers. And it’s gonna be a difficult time. And we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out. J.R. Church did a series, the tip of the dragon. Yeah. And he went into the detail a few years ago at one of the Scott’s News prophecy conferences. yeah a lot of people have named different ones we’ll just have to wait and see he won’t be revealed until after the rapture so all we can do is speculate but he’s probably alive and waiting in the wings and and when the appropriate moment happens uh…
you know the rapture could change everything instantly certainly somewhere in the wings somewhere in the power line of authority uh… the antichrist is probably sitting there ready to go okay thank you very much you’re very welcome that was taught we’re going to go to Tampa and talk to Chuck who is on the line. Welcome to Bible lines. Good morning Pastor Lester. Yes quick question concerning the history of the Bible. Could you briefly tell how a Bible originally consolidated into the new and Old Testament and the second part of the question is, when we interpret it, especially the revelation, can you tell me if, How do you discern the metaphors from the natural way it is?
I’ll hang up and miss it. All right, we’ll do that. Well, you know, the Bible was written by authenticates, books, verses, for God. Moses was clearly accepted as God’s prophet, and as soon as Moses wrote, his writings were accepted as being the Word of God. In fact, God told him to build a piece of furniture called the Ark of the Covenant, where God’s words were to be placed inside this piece of furniture that was overlaid with gold. And each successive prophet that wrote his writings also were accepted as the Word of God and were added to this collection.
And the word was added on to and placed into the Ark of the Covenant. Copies were made, in fact in Deuteronomy 17 you see that every king, every new king in Israel was to make his own handwritten copy. So kings were to make their own copy. They were also to read the Word to all the people once a year so everybody was gathered together and they would read the Bible to them. And when you go to the synagogue you’ll find that every synagogue service they’ll open up the writings of Moses and they’ll read the Scriptures to the people.
It’s an interesting part of our roots that is still carried out today, but that was the way it happened. And obviously, the New Testament the same way, each book as it was written, the inspired Word of God, and was accepted as such. And so it was added to what was the collection of Scripture. But no committee ever got together and decided this book will stay and this book will go. When different councils met down through time, they simply endorsed the Scriptures that we we have were indeed the word of God.
In the book of Revelation, if you read carefully, usually the symbolism are explained right there in the very book of Revelation somewhere nearby, and that’s what you need to do. We hope that you’re learning with us. As you listen to this question and answer segment featuring Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Bibleline will be back in a moment. To pledge your support for Bibleline, give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. You know, every Christian has a ministry given to him by the Lord. Did you know that every Christian? In fact, every Christian has the same ministry given to him by the Lord.
This does not mean that every Christian will have the same occupation or that he will not have different areas in which he may serve. But 2 Corinthians 5, 18 says that God has given to us that is every believer, the ministry of reconciliation, that is the ministry of winning the loss to Christ. Scripture even tells us what to say in order to win men to Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5 19, where it says to it, and that’s Old English, and it means that is to say, and here’s what we’re to say.
It tells us even what we’re to do and how we’re to do it and what we’re to say. It says that is to it or that is to say that God was in Christ. That’s the first point. I I think it’s important for us as Christians to let people know that Jesus was not some great teacher, some great prophet, some guy that came along that was a gifted communicator. He was God who came and took on human flesh. You know, Islam accepts Jesus as a prophet.
Of course, they accept 40,000 prophets and Jesus is just one of the boys. They don’t recognize him as God. They do not recognize His deity. And this is universal, where people that do not know about the deity of Christ and do not recognize the deity of Christ really haven’t heard about and been confronted with the Jesus of the Bible. Because the real Jesus is God. And He’s God who took on human flesh. In John 1-1 it says in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
talking about Christ. And it says in verse 14, the word was made flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus Christ is the word, the second eternal member of the God who existed from eternity past. And as it says in John 1-1, in the beginning was the word. He was already present when the beginning began. In other words, when God created time and space, when time began. In the beginning, when time began God, the eternal second member of the Godhead, the Lord Jesus Christ, already had existed from eternity past.
And to deny this, guess what? The Bible says this is the spirit of Antichrist. In other words, the whole spirit of Antichrist is to deny that Jesus Christ is God who came and took on flesh. And so, Obviously, it’s a major doctrine. And in 1 John 2, 23, it says, whosoever denyeth the Son, the same hath not the Father. So if you don’t have the Son, if you don’t accept and recognize that He has got to took on flesh, that He is the Savior who died on the cross of Calvary, then you don’t have God.
The cults are all in that situation. The Jehovah’s Witnesses are really Jehovahless. That’s right. They deny the Son, therefore, they don’t have the Father. Read it in 1 John 2, 23 for yourself. Obviously, this is a major doctrine and it tells us here that not only do we all have this ministry of reconciliation that God has given to every believer to win the loss to Christ, but he even tells us in 2 Corinthians 5, 19 what we’re to say when we’re talking to the lost as it says to it or that is to say it’s Old English, but to it means to witness and we’re to give witness and say that God was in Christ.
Jesus Christ is God in flesh. Then it says, He reconciling the world unto Himself. He is the reconciler. He is the Savior. There is nothing that you and I can do to be saved, but receive what Christ has done for us. I love what the hymn writer wrote when the hymn writer wrote, just as I am I come. Without one plea but that thy blood was shed for me. I come to Christ just as I am, just as wretched and a sinner as we could be or are in God’s sight.
And we simply receive Christ and He saves us. He’s the reconciler. He’s the one that gives us eternal life. Find here that he is the one that does all in salvation. We don’t do anything. I love the other him. Jesus paid it all. All to him I owe sin had left a crimson stain. But he washed it. That’s why it is no. We have no part but to receive it when we simply trust Christ as our Savior. God saves us and we’re saved eternally.

Now let’s return to our question and answer segment and then we’ll hear more Bible teaching from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. We’re going to go to Walter Den in Sarasota. Walter, welcome to Bible End. Good morning, Pastor. How are you doing? Alright. I haven’t spoken to you in probably three years. I’ve been wanting to ask you a question. I saw this on television many years ago and I was wondering if a scholar like yourself had any knowledge that this was true or not, that within the Catholic Church there’s supposed to be a prophecy that the next pope is supposed to be the what he calls it.
Well an evil pope in any cases what I’ve heard but I wouldn’t I don’t believe the Antichrist comes out of the Catholic Church but no not the Antichrist but I was wondering about the yeah I’ve heard that I’ve heard that in fact I think the present pope has said that the next pope will be an evil pope. So that’s an interesting conduction on the part of the Catholic Church that they might be anticipating such a fellow. But that may be very well the case, it might happen.
I mean, the timeline is, as far as you and I are concerned, we’re fortunate anticipating, you know, to return, soon return. Absolutely. And you’ve heard it also. I’ve heard it. That speculation is out there. And of course I just try to stay with the Bible so we’ll just have to wait. But definitely the seven years after the Rapture will be an evil time. And the Bible in Micah chapter 7 describes the best of everybody will be like a Breyer in a thorn bush.
So it doesn’t sound like people are going to be too nice during that time. As true believers are going to be gone and all that are left are unbelievers at least at the beginning and apparently it’s not going to be a place where you can trust anyone so you can’t put your trust in a friend, you can’t even put your trust in your wife or your husband that everybody will be betraying one another and taking advantage of people in an evil way and so I’m glad I’m leaving.
Amen. Well thank you very much Pastor. Thank you. That was Walter and Sarasota. We’re going to go to Tarpon Springs and we’re going to talk to Jamie. Welcome. Hi. I’m up here in Tarpon Springs today and I had just a couple thoughts where everybody is always saying, well, you’re born and you die. We all have to die. But if we go at Rapture, then we’re not really experiencing death, correct? You’re exactly right. And there is a group that will be exempted from death, and that is the group that will be alive at the rapture.
And Jesus interestingly talks about those who die and then will be resurrected, and then those that are living when he comes, it will never die. Let me quote to you, John 11, you might want to write this down, but John 11, 25, Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. But then verse 26 says, And whosoever liveth, and believeth in me, shall never die. I think he’s anticipating that group that will be living when he comes back, that are believers that will never die.
So there will be a group that will be exempted from death, and I’m hoping to be in it. Well, I am too, and I always felt that way also. And then the… The scripture that says the gate is narrow and few are those who find it? Yes. And that is talking about the fact that the way is narrow because Christ is exclusively the way to heaven. There is a broad as a way that leads to destruction. So there’s all kinds of choices you can make that will take you to hell.
I believe you can choose any religion you want and it will all take you to hell. Only Christ can take you to heaven. So it’s narrow in the sense that it is exclusively just one way. And not like an amount of people like that. few or not well also i think that there are few that find it yet i think so when you come up with a whole thing up and i don’t have any figures and got as a revealed it to us but apparently there will be more people who will go to hell than will go to heaven and that’s because apparently they uh…
they struggle with the fact that there is just one way and that it’s so simple that got his then all the hard part that he’s purchased our salvation and offers it to us free as a gift But Christ is, in fact, people have told me, you’re narrow minded. You say there’s only one way to heaven. And that’s exactly the way it comes across. It’s a narrow way. There’s only one way. Well, right. And I do believe that. I was just hoping that more people would go to heaven and go to hell.
Well, that’s my desire, too. And I’m trying to tell people how to get there. But it’s amazing how a lot of people are blinded. And they want to stick with their works to get to heaven. And they’re not going to make it if they do. Only Christ can save them. That’s wonderful. And one more question on the trumpet blowing before the Rapture. We’ll hear that and that’ll… I believe only the believers will hear it and they’ll be caught up.
And so it says in 1 Thessalonians, which is the classic passage on the Rapture, it says that the Lord will descend himself from heaven with a shout, with a voice of the Archangel, with the Trump of God. And then it says in verse 70 that we which are alive and are here on the earth when that happens will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. Well that’s wonderful. Well I enjoy your program. I listen every day and I tell all my friends to listen to and I thank you so much.
Alright well thank you Jamie. Alright take care. You have a great day. Jamie in Tarpon Springs and we’re all going to be caught up at one moment of time when and the rapture does happen. And I think we’re close enough that most all of you, if you just stay healthy a little bit longer, you could be in that group that will just be caught up and meet the Lord in the air. Won’t that be great? I’m gonna be giving a lot of high fives on the way up.
And it’ll be a great time for Christians. I’ve told it before, but I love the Schofield Bible, and that’s what I recommend for people. And by the way, we do have those also available as resources from our little Bible and bookstore. But one of the contributors to the Scofield Bible was a man named William Pettengal. You’ll find his name listed there in the front of the old Scofield Bible or the first Scofield Bible, which is the one I recommend, not the new.
But in any case, I’ve got a lot of the things that he has written, which I think most of which are out of print today. But he made a comment which I never have gotten over. He said, I hope that the rapture happens real slow, that we go up real, real slow. And he said, that’s because I want to, as I go up, wave goodbye to everybody and tell them, I told you so. I told you so. I told you so.
That’d be kind of fun, wouldn’t it? But it won’t happen that way. The Bible says it happens in a moment in the twinkling of an eye. And we’ll just simply disappear. People are not going to see us even disappear. They’ll just note that we’re gone. And they might go looking for us and they won’t find us. But we’re going to be absent from this present world. We’ll just be caught up to meet the Lord in the air and transform to our new bodies on the way up and people won’t see it but the ones who are believers will hear the shout and hear the trumpet and up they’ll go.
We’re going to go to Newport, Rich, and we have Vicki waiting on the line. Vicki, welcome to Bibleline. Hey, how you doing? All right. Good. I’m glad you brought up salvation because I’ve been going talking to so many different Christians and I think we listened to you tape you had. How secure is your salvation? that you. Yes, me. We were listening to you that night. Oh my goodness. And we went out with some Christian friends the other night for the first time.
We had a prayer before dinner and went back to their house and prayed afterwards. But our whole conversation was, okay, I’m learning once you’re safe, you’re always safe, but then they have, he brews six. And they said, well, that’s the only way you can throw your salvation out. And I’m going to hang up and just listen to what you have to say. All right. Thank you for calling and that’s interesting that you are listening to that take. Hebrews chapter 6 is interesting.
It says it’s impossible, verse 4, for those who are once enlightened and it lists five things that are the marks of a genuine believer. And… It’s not talking about falling away from salvation because that’s impossible, but it’s talking about falling away from serving the Lord. What it’s saying there is it’s impossible to renew them again under repentance. Repentance means a change of mind. It’s the change of mind that occurs when you trust Christ as Savior, where you change your mind about Christ and about whatever you were previously trusting in to be saved to trusting Christ.
And so it’s basically saying, if you fall away or you get away from serving the Lord, phrases like falling from your steadfastness, falling from your steadfastness, falling from your steadfastness, and then you’re going to be What it’s saying there is it’s impossible to renew them again under repentance. Repentance means a change of mind. It’s the change of mind that occurs when you trust Christ as Savior, or you change your mind about Christ and about whatever you were previously trusting Him to be saved to trusting Christ.
And so it’s basically saying, if you fall away, or you get away from serving the Lord, phrases like falling from your steadfastness, falling from your. from your confidence are common in the Bible. But it never says you can fall from salvation, that’s impossible. So basically what it’s saying is it’s impossible for you to go back and become saved again. And that was a point that had to be made, I think with these Hebrew Christians, the book of Hebrews was written to believers who were Jewish in background, and they were used to that yearly sacrifice at the temple in Jerusalem.
And so they thought, well, if I get away from the Lord, I have to go back and start all over again. And this verse says that’s impossible because you can’t be saved a second time. You only saved once. And if you try to do that, you will crucify Christ again to yourself, it says, in verse six, and you’ll put him to an open shame. It’s really blasphemous to say that you’d have to go back and crucify Christ all over again to pay for sin.
And actually this is a great eternal security verse. In fact, I had one lady I talked to And she said that she had lost her salvation seven times. And I got this real solemn look on my face and I said, oh, ma’am, I’m so sorry for you. My heart goes out to you. And she says, what do you mean? Because if this verse means what you say it means, when you lost it the first time, you were damned to hell.
Because it says it’s impossible for you to be renewed again under repentance. So if you ever lost it, you can’t get it back. Well then all of a sudden it was interesting how she changes it. Well, I almost lost it. I came close. You know, she changed real quick on the spot. But this verse is saying once you get saved, it’s impossible for you to get saved again. It’s not saying you can lose it. It’s saying in the following verses, we’re talking about things that accompany salvation and how rewards come about by serving the Lord.
So if you fall down or you get away from the Lord, you need to get up and get serving again and the result will be rewards. Verse 10 of that chapter says, God is not unrighteous to forget your labor of love, and He’s going to remember and reward you for whatever deeds you’ve done for Him. So get up and get going again. If you fall away, you don’t have to go back and become saved again. You’re saved once and for all by the one-time sacrifice of Christ.
And Vicki, if that doesn’t do it, I’ve got a sheet I’ve written on that and you can ask my operator, call back later after the program and we’ll send that out to you where I go through through that very passage in great detail. That wraps up today’s question and answer segment. As believers in Jesus, there is no other topic that is more important to us than the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it was Dr. Hank Lindstrom’s mission to spread the gospel.
Through your prayers and ongoing financial support for Bibleline, you too can help spread the gospel of Christ throughout the world and reach others with the message of salvation through Jesus. Please, prayerfully consider supporting Bible line by visiting our website at BibleLineMinistries.org and getting copies of any of our resources, such as Dr. Lindstrom’s audio CDs on the books of Matthew or Genesis, plus many others. Join us now as we continue today’s teaching series from Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Let’s go down to verse 26 and here’s an opportunity for us to practice rightly divided in order to truth.
We have two things going on at the same time. Here’s the first time now when we read an overcoming promise that also has a promise, not just to the believer, but to the believer who is working and the rewards that will accompany that. Let’s read it. Verse 26, He that overcometh, comma, stop. And then it says, and keepeth my works under the end. Now for overcoming, an overcomer is just a believer. Let’s read the promise now associated with being an overcomer.
It’s in verse 28. I will give him one, the morning star. The morning star is Jesus. And so if you are an overcomer, you receive or you are given Christ, and it says in 1 John 5.12, mark it down. I don’t have time to turn there. But in 1 John 5.12 it says, he that has the Son has life. And he that has not the Son of God has not life. So the one who’s an overcomer. He is given Christ.
And if you have Christ, you have life. John 3.36, he believes on the sun, has everlasting life. But he believes not on the sun, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides upon him. So notice the promise to the believer. If you’re an overcomer, then you’ll receive Christ. And if you receive Christ, then you have everlasting life, you become born again. But notice the rest of verse 26, and keep it by works into the end. What will be the result to him?
Will I give what? Power over the nation. So in the millennium, ruling power that will be given to you because of your faithful works. Salvation is a gift. Notice in verse 28, I will give him. It’s a gift, the morning star. Christ is received as a gift. It says in John 1, 12, to as many as received Christ, to them God gave authority for them to become the sons of God, to them that believe on His name. But if you are also faithful after you have received Christ, then you’ll be given power to rule over the nations during the thousand year end of Christ.
And he Christ will rule them with a rod of iron and the vessels and as the vessels of a potter shall be broken to shivers even as I have received of my Father. And I’ll give him the morning star. Verse 29, he that hath in ear let him hear what the Spirit say unto the churches. So here we have spiritual hearing if you’re a believer, you’re an overcomer, you receive Christ, therefore you receive eternal life because eternal life abides in Christ, not in us.
And if you are faithful to serve Christ, then you’ll be rewarded. And so that’s called rightly divided in order of truth. Not mixing up works with salvation, which is what this church was all about. The church at Thyatira, the word sacrifice is the word that it means. And what happened? The Bible was sacrificed for tradition and a false system of sacrifice in Christ was introduced which is the Mass. And so this was a time of great spiritual spiraling down away from God’s Word.
And Jesus was demoted to the Son of Mary, but notice as he’s introduced in verse 18, he is introduced as the Son of God, the one who will judge those who reject Him and they will be hurt of the second death. But those who do not have that doctrine but believe on Christ will receive the Morning Star. Chapter 3. Now we’re going to go to the church at Sardis. Sardis means remnant and this talks about I believe the Reformation.
Beginning about the end of the 14th century, the 15th, 16th, 17th centuries, we have the Reformation beginning. Martin Luther was a major player and Martin Luther tagged his theses to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany on October 31, 1527. And that marked the beginning of the Reformation. Martin Luther was a Roman Catholic priest. He had a doctorate of theology. He was a professor at the University of Wittenberg, Germany. Of all things, by God’s design, I’m sure, was asked to teach the book of Romans.
As he began to prepare to teach the book of Romans, he’s studying the book of Romans. He gets to, as you read his testimony, to verse 16 and 17, which says, I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it the gospel is the power of God and the salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. And then the next verse talks about God’s righteousness given to the one who believes. And Martin Luther got saved.
Wow. And then he began to see everything through new eyes. And he began to realize how many ways the Catholic church had departed from what the scriptures taught in just the book of Romans. And some of these things got him very, very troubled. And so he tacked up these items on the church door and that sparked the Reformation. A brilliant man, he translated the Bible from Latin, which was the Latin Vulgate Roman Catholic translation, which was not a bad translation, into the German language.
And of course, the people being able to read the Bible in their language also furthered the cause. But he was a hunted man as were all those reformers because the Catholic Church hated them and wanted to kill them. And the word for men that he led to Christ in power that hid Martin Luther, he would have been killed and burned at the stake for his saying that we’re saved by faith and not by works. But he also wrote a number of hymns.
I want you to pull out your hymnal and turn to 333. And here’s one of those you might have sung, written by Martin Luther, it’s called a mighty fortress. I want you to follow the words as I read and think about if you were living in that time when the political system and the religious system was controlled by Rome. And if you didn’t go along with what they believed, you were in danger of losing your life and being tortured and made a public example and maybe being burnt alive at the stake.
Here are the words that Martin Luther wrote which tell his… The faith was strong in the living God. He said, a mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark, never failing. Our helper, he amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing, for still our ancient and fold and seek to work us well. His craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate on earth is not his equal. Speaking of Satan, did we in our own strength confide our striving would be losing?
We’re not the right man on our side, the man of God’s own choosing. Thus ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he, Lord Sabioth his name, from age to age the same, and he, Christ, must win the battle. And though this world with devils filled should threaten to undo us, we will not fear. For God hath will his truth to triumph through us. The prince of darkness grim, we trembled not for him. His rage we can endure, for lo his doom is sure.
One little word shall fell him. That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them abideth. The Spirit and the gifts are ours. Through him who with us sideeth. Let us, let goods and kindred go. This mortal life also, the body they may what? Kill. God’s truth, the body is still. His kingdom is forever. What powerful words, huh? And that was in the midst of a time when boy, the whole world was against you if you stood up for Jesus Christ.
And these are the words he said, so the body they can kill my body. But the truth is going to be won by Jesus Christ and what courage he had and what courage we should take from men like this who have been mentors to us, and hopefully we would. So here we have the Reformation period beginning. We find the gospel is discovered through men like Martin Luther and the other reformers. It says, notice these things say that the seven spirits of God and the seven stars, and we said that that is the Holy Spirit in His fullest, Isaiah 11, 2, as the cross-reference who gave you for the seven spirits of God.
It is the one and same Holy Spirit, the seven stars of the seven pastors of the seven churches, Christ is the one who has them in his hand. And notice he is now talking about how that he is the one that has these faithful men of the Reformation in his hand. And he says, I know that I works. And as the Reformation period began to move along and began to lose what it had at its beginning, I know thy works, that thou hast a name, that thou livest in art dead.
As we look back upon the Reformation, what happened? What happened is that people who were descendants of those great reformers simply today are living a name and many times don’t even know prices are Savior. Be sure to tune in to another edition of Bibleline from Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida. Jesus paid it all all to Him. I owe sin that left a crimson stain. But he washed it. Has widest note. We have no part but to receive it when we simply trust Christ as our Savior God saves us and we’re saved eternally. The next phrase here in 2 Corinthians 5 19 says he is not imputing their trespasses under them. Whoa Most preachers don’t preach like that, do they?
They’re always pointing their finger and saying if you do this you’ll go to hell if you do that you’ll go to hell. If you do the other thing, you’ll go to hell. And guess what? Jesus paid for every sin you’d ever commit past, present, and future, and He’s not charging those sins against you. There’s only one sin that can cause you to go to hell. That’s the sin of unbelief, the sin of rejection of Christ. What is called the unpardonable sin.
To reject who Christ is. You know, we talked about that this week, the unpardonable sin that blessed me against the Holy Spirit, it was to say that Jesus Christ healed by the power of Satan and not by the power of the Holy Spirit, and they were in danger of eternal damnation. And committing the sin that would never be forgivable, it says in Mark 3.30, because they said, because they said, he Christ hath an unclean spirit. So to say that Christ was not God in flesh, that Jesus This Christ was a man healing by Satan’s power.
A rejection of who Christ is, is the unpardonable sin that would function to be lost and go to hell forever and ever and ever. We find here that God is not charging your sins against you. Now if you die, rejecting Christ who is the only provision for your sin, yes, you’ll stand before God and all those sins and those sins will cause you to be condemned to go to hell for ever and ever and ever. But you don’t go to hell because you smoke or drink or whatever bad habits you might have.
I tell people that smoking doesn’t send you to hell. Now people in hell will smoke, but they don’t go to hell because they smoke. You follow? In other words, when you trust Christ, you become saved. But if you die as an unbeliever, You go to hell because you’ve rejected Christ, not because you smoked or lied or cheated or stole. Every one of us are sinners. Every one of us of sin can show to the glory of God. And Christ is paid for every sin you’d ever commit in your whole lifetime past, present, and future.
And when you trust Him, God saves you. Well that’s the wonderful ministry that you and I have. We’re all to tell our family and our friends about Jesus and how He has paid our sin debt in full at the cross. He paid it all all to him. I owe sin and left to crimson stain, but he washed it as white as snow. And I can come just as I am without. That his blood was shed for me. And when I trust him in his shed blood is the means of my salvation.
God saves me. We have some great tracks called am I going to heaven in Spanish, two different ones in English that really work. People get saved through these tracks all the time. If you’re looking for a tool for evangelism, this track has everything in it. It has the verses you need all printed out. It has a nice flow and it gets you right on topic and keeps you there. And we’ll bring a person to Christ. We’ve had many reports of people getting saved that have They’ve just been handed one of these tracks and they, if they read it and their minds are turned on, the gospel is there and many people get saved just by being able to read the track.
If you just give it out, there’s a good chance you’re going to get somebody saved. And so you might want to get some of those. We have many people using them and are using them with great success. Again, we have to run, keep looking up, Jesus is coming, and I hope you tell your friends about Bibleline. God bless, keep looking up, Jesus is coming. And we believe he’s coming soon.
