Bibleline Radio Show – 2007-04-04 – Jonah and Christ

Jesus Christ laid His credibility on the line when He said, “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth (Matthew 12:40).” If, therefore, the story of Jonah is not true then the story of Christ is not true. If the story of Jonah is fiction, then the story of Christ is fiction.

Good morning and welcome to Bibleline great to be with you today. Thanks for tuning into the broadcast It’s Wednesday. We’re coming to you live from our studios right here in Tampa, Florida at the Calvary Community Church We’re on the pastor and this is good Wednesday We believe Christ was crucified on today of the crucifixion week 2000 years ago.

It’s exciting. This is the day We believe Christ would have been crucified and he would right now be on the cross of Calvary, being pronounced sinless by Pilate at 6am, and then Pilate gives the decree to let him be crucified at 9 o’clock. He’s nailed to the cross, and at 12 noon God shuts the lights out as darkness goes across the whole land, and then at 3 o’clock Jesus dies as the payment for your sin and for mine, The redemption of mankind of the human race was accomplished right there on the cross.

Jesus said it is finished. So this is a special day and we’ll talk more about it during our program today. But we’re glad to have you listening. We hope that you’re telling your friends about the program. We hope you’re listening on the internet as well at your leisure, Bible, line, ministries.org or .com. Click on that spinning globe and you’re connected to the radio. on the TV, you’re connected to our television programs, click on the camera, you can watch our worship services, plus many more things on our website, BibleLineMinistries.org or dot com.

We’re excited this is the crucifixion week and of course Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ again from the dead. And by the way here at Calvary we’re We were having a sundown service because we believed Jesus was raised from the dead at sundown, not sunrise. Jesus made it plain. He’d be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. That’s 72 hours. Three daylight periods, three night periods, that’s 72 hours. He’s placed in the grave at sundown, crucified, and died at three in the afternoon.

He had to be in the grave by six before the Passover began. And so if he goes in the grave, it’s Sunday, he has to come on, it’s Sunday, 72 hours later. If you leave Christ in the grave till Sunday morning, then that’s three days and four nights. Think about it, three days and four nights. You’re leaving him in the grave an extra night period, that’s three days and four nights. Christ said he’d be in the grave three days and three nights.

Who are you going to go with? tradition or the words of Christ. Really it’s no contest. The Bible is clear. Christ rose. And we’re going to have a sundown service at 6 p.m. Saturday. You’re invited if you’re in driving distance. We certainly hope you’ll drop in on us at our sundown service. It’ll be a wonderful time, a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ exactly when it took place. We’ll be looking at the Bible for a few minutes here and then we’re going to go ahead and take our callers today.

And we’ve already had people calling in this morning and they’re leaving all fair questions and asking other questions and of course we’re delighted to have you call anytime of day and we hope that you will call us here at Bible and if you have a question or if we can help you in any way. We’re excited about of course the resource center that we have. We have so many things that can help you in your Christian life. You might want to get tracks to witness with.

might want to get CDs to witness with. We have one called how permanent is your salvation. That has led thousands of Christ. It’s just amazing how God has blessed that CD and how that if you get someone to listen to it, we have found the chances of them coming to know Christ are very, very excellent. We had so many. to believe all the prophets have spoken, Luke 24, 25. We are to believe all that the prophets have spoken. Contrary to what many people have heard, Jonah was not swallowed by a whale.

The Bible states, now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. Jonah. Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Jonah 1 17, a fish does not breathe air. It has no lungs, but takes oxygen from the water through its gills. A whale is not a fish, but a mammal. A whale has lungs and breathes air through its nostrils or vents leading to its lungs. Someone might say, well, what about Matthew 1240?

In the King James translation the word whale is used, but the Greek word kitos, which means a large fish, is what is really used. Certainly good God could have prepared a minnow if he had wanted to, and all too often the picture we have is the distortion of what the Bible really says. Many think the story of Jonah is a fairy tale. The Jonah sat in a chair, at a table, in the fish’s belly, and that there was a candle burning on the table, and pictures hung around the wall of the fish’s belly, that Jonah patiently waited three days and three nights until he was vomited out upon the dry land.

Well Jonah died in the fish’s belly. It is amazing how many persons think that Jonah lived in the fish’s belly, and therefore well-meaning Christians, C. Kai and Lo, turn heaven and earth upside down in a search for a fish that would prove that Jonah could live inside. Well, that isn’t, of course, the case at all. It says Jonah went down to Sheol. That is the place in the heart of the earth where Jesus went. In Jonah 2-2, Jonah said, I went down to the bottoms of the mountains and the earth with her bars was about me forever.

Yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God, Jonah 2.6. Jonah’s soul was in the heart of the earth three days and three nights, exactly as Christ was in the heart of the earth three days and three nights, Matthew 12.40. The Bible teaches that there is a hollow place. In the center of the earth calls shield in the Old Testament Hebrew and Hades in the New Testament Greek. There is a place of comfort called paradise and a place of torment in shield or Hades prepared or separated by a huge gulf.

Luke chapter 16 verse 26 tells us that, all of the saved that are dead and all the lost that died went to Hades or Sheol prior to the death and the burial and resurrection of Christ. The same were waiting for the payment for sin to be made. The lost are still waiting to be cast into hell and are still in Hades or Sheol. When Jesus died, He went down to Hades or Sheol to the Paradise part and when the dying thief that was crucified with Christ, asked to be saved, Jesus said, Verily I say unto thee, today thou shalt be with me in paradise.

At the same time, He said He’d be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. So we know that obviously paradise was in the heart of the earth, and that’s where Jesus went, the same place that Jonah had gone. But that Jonah was a picture of the death, the barrel, the resurrection of Christ. Jonah booked passage on a ship to find or to flee from the presence of the Lord, and God sent a great storm that threatened the lives of all that were on board.

The attempts of the seaman to save themselves were futile. When the seaman asked how to be saved from the storm, Jonah says, Take me up and cast be forth into the sea and social the sea be common to you. And so Jonah had to die for those on board of that ship to be saved. And so Jesus had to die for those on the earth to be saved. And so Jonah gave up his life. Jesus gave up his life.

Jonah’s body was and toomed in the fish’s belly while Jonas… The son of the earth was in the heart of the earth. Jesus’ body was entombed in a rich man’s tomb whilemarried into the heart of the earth. Jonah was resurrected and his soul brought up from Shioh and re-entered the body, which was in the fish’s belly. Jesus was resurrected and his soul was brought up from Hades or Shioh and re-entered his body, which was in the rich man’s tomb.

was then seen alive and preached to the people of Nineveh, Jesus was then also seen alive and preached to his disciples. The one sign that Jesus gave to prove his identity was the sign of the Prophet Jonah. His critics demanded a sign. Let me read. It says then certain of the scribes in Pharisees answered saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee, He answered and said unto them, An evil and an adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of the Prophet Jonah.

Whereas Jonah was three days and three nights in the Fishes belly, social as son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, Matthew 12 verses 38 through 40. So the Bible tells us that Jonah was assigned to the Nine Rites. Jonah’s body carried the marks of his death. His body was in a fish that tried to digest him for three days and three nights or 72 hours. Jonah probably had no hair anywhere on his body, no eyelashes, no eyebrows, no hair on his head, nor on his body because of the stomach acid.

His skin must have been wrinkled and bleached by the powerful stomach acids. He was a sign and he had been resurrected and it was obvious. Jesus also carried the marks of death in his body. Jesus said, behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself, hand will me in sea for a spirit of not flesh and bones, as you see me have. Luke 24, 39. Well this is the day we believe that Christ was crucified, and we are excited about being able to be with you live here from Tampa on Good Wednesday.

And you say, well what’s the point? Well, number one, to be accurate, Christ could not have been crucified on Friday. He had to be crucified on Wednesday. If you can count to three, I think you can count backwards. Christ rose at the beginning of the first day of the week. If you count backwards, one day would be Saturday, two would be Friday, three would be Thursday. He was crucified on Wednesday. And obviously, he was placed in the grave at sundown.

It would have been today, and in 72 hours from 6 p.m. tonight would be Saturday at 6 p.m. That would be the end of the Sabbath, the beginning of the first day of the week. Nobody, nobody saw Christ rise from the dead on Sunday morning. They found the empty tomb. He was already gone. Even the angels said, he’s risen. He’s not here. He was already risen. By the way, in Tampa we’re having a sundown service this Saturday night at 6 o’clock.

We’d love to have you. You can come out and be a part of that. We’re having a good Wednesday service tonight. And if you could come out at 7 o’clock, that would be great. And join us as we celebrate Good Wednesday here at Calvary Community Church where Bible line is headquartered. Well, this is Bibleline. We’re coming to you live from Tampa and we’re going to go to the phone lines. if you’d like to call in, that number is 1-800-576-3771.

That’s 1-800-576-3771. We’re going to go now to Roger, and Roger is in Mobile, Alabama. Roger, welcome to Bible End. Happy Good Wednesday. Thank you. Same to you. I got a question about revelation. and it’s kind of off your topic this morning. But John was taken into heaven, and of course he saw heaven itself where Jesus was. But also, he was sitting in the bleachers, and he saw the last seven years on earth. And he put in his words that the things that he was familiar with what he saw.

When I go to the sixth vial or the sixth trumpet, We see the probably China and the kings of the east coming across the River Euphrates on horses with fire coming out of the horses molds and stings in their tails which hurt man. And John didn’t know how to explain a tank or anything like that. The mode of transportation probably was predominantly camel or horse and he said horse with fire out of the molds. There’s another one too as well, locust coming up from the earth, flying through the air with breast plates of iron.

He saw the faces of man. Could he be looking at a helicopter with a man sitting inside, looking through the glass and a breastplate of iron and the thrashing noise of many churiots? Could he be looking at maybe a helicopter or something like that? I think sometimes we got to think that way a little bit because John wasn’t familiar with all these things. We had to put it and describe it the best he could. What do you think? Well, I agree with you.

I think certainly it could be talking about any or all of those things. And we’re just reading what John saw and how he wrote about him in terms that people at that time could understand. Today, of course, we’re familiar with these modern weapons that fly and do all kinds of things. I think you’re right on. I think that certainly could be true. Okay well thanks a lot Andrew you show. Alright. Bye. Happy Good Wednesday to you as this is we believe the day of the Crucifixion Week that Christ was crucified on.

There is no good Friday. What is interesting about the good Friday it’s not only wrong but every year you’ll see it in the paper I’m sure again as we approach Friday. Stigmanas that is people who who will vicariously suffer the suffering of Christ and they’ll bleed in their hands and in their feet and so on, supposedly the sufferings of Christ. What amuses me is they bleed on the wrong day. If this were really of God, they would bleed on Wednesday.

But it shows you that obviously this can’t be right. I think it’s just an easy way to expose what is going on today. There are so many things that are just not right. You know the Bible teaches that each of us as believers become saints at the moment of belief. It says in Hebrews 10-10, by God’s will we are sanctified by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all Hebrews 10-10. Now the word sanctified is the verb form, the noun form is saint.

So if you have been sanctified, you are a saint. And what is so interesting here lately, you get a lot of the news, is they’re trying to make Pope John Paul the second a saint. Are they telling us he wasn’t the saint? And if they are, they’re saying that Pope John Paul is not saved. And they’re trying to get him saved after his death. And all of the big news is about the fact that nuns in France prayed and a nun there that had Parkinson’s disease prayed not to God, not to Jesus, not even to Mary, but prayed to John Paul and he healed her.

And so now they’re going to make him a saint. And it’s so foreign to Scripture because every believer, as you read the New Testament, Old Testament. Upon belief became saints because they are sanctified by Christ’s death at the cross by trusting Him as their Savior. Hebrews 10-14 says, by one offering, He hath perfected forever those that are sanctified. And the sanctified are saints and every believer, you, me, and anyone that is listening that is trusted Jesus Christ as Savior is a saint.

It is just amazing to me how bad doctrine can get and how the Catholic Church really ought to say, hey, you guys got it all wrong. But they have a different system where the Church can decide who is a saint or who is not a saint. Whereas the Bible says God determines who is a saint and that God makes saints out of unbelievers when they become believers, that by one sacrifice, the sacrifice of Christ, are sanctified or made pure and holy in God’s sight and the noun form is that they are saints once sanctified and you read it through the whole New Testament.

I am a saint. You’re a saint if you’re a believer, if you’ve trusted Christ. But apparently the Roman Catholic Church is saying Pope John Paul was not a saint, therefore he’s not going to heaven. They’re hoping to get enough votes to make him a saint and maybe get the guy into heaven. It’s just amazing that this could be so wrong. But again, that’s what we see happening today, a lot of nonsense and a lot of fiction. And that’s why we point out the fact that Christ is crucified on Wednesday.

If you believe you can crucified on Friday or believe you’re crucified on Wednesday and trust him as your Savior, you would be saved. But it just goes to show that we need to be more careful students of our Bible. A lot of times what we know about the Bible is really not from the Bible. We have gotten it from other sources. We’re now going to go to Roger in Mobile, Alabama. Roger, welcome to Bible on your own ear. Oh, greetin’ Dr.

Hank. Now, how back it comes from Mount Karen. What is what? It simply says the direction for which God came when He defeated those armies against Israel has nothing to do with the origin of God. He has existed from eternity past and he obviously lives in heaven. But to try to make something out of that, you might say I came out of downtown Tampa. In reality I was born in Miami but maybe today I was down there for some reason and I came out of downtown Tampa.

It doesn’t have any other significance against the lab uh… it says uh… very well i said to you serving is not greater than his lord and this is the segment of the first of the focus and all it is neither neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him and what I’m thinking is saying that Jesus is not greater than the Father and to me it just it’s perplexing because of saying that Jesus is not greater than the Father and I know that Jesus is God so can you allure that allure they don’t own 13 16 for me.

Well, obvious. Obviously they’re equal. It says in Philippians 2 that Jesus thought it not robbery to be equal with God. He’s equal. He sent greater. He’s exactly equal with God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. They’re all equal. They’re all the same God. So it’s not saying that one of them is greater than the other, they’re not. All three persons of the eternal Godhead are one God and are absolutely evil. Okay, man, clear for me, man.

I appreciate it. Because see, it just might go in the verse and I think it’s in Matthew. See, when I first heard that, it said, when Jesus said, why do you call me good? I thought he was saying. He was actually implying himself that he was God and was good and I wondered if this guy really knew what he was saying when he said that because everybody in the human race is a sinner and there is none good, no not one Romans 3 12, but Christ is good because he is God.

He’s the only one who is righteous of himself. When we become believers become righteous because of an imputed righteousness which God gives to those that are believers, but otherwise we are not righteous. We are not going to heaven unless we trust Christ as Savior. And we’re just talking about the Pope. I would love to see John Paul in heaven, but apparently they recognize that he’s not a saint and is not going to go to heaven. And they’re trying to make him a saint now by supposedly having this miracle where the nun prayed not to Jesus, not to Mary, not to God, but prayed to John Paul in the healer from the grave.

That’s amazing. Okay, I thank you so early, Don, hey. All right. Praying to the dead is forbidden in the Bible. We’re not afraid of the dead. Isaiah 8 says, that’s forbidden, and yet the Roman Catholic Church does it regularly. And this is the departure from the Bible. We have to go to break. We’re going to come back and do the second half of the Bible. And I hope you’ll stay tuned. And this is a good Wednesday. I hope you’re enjoying this wonderful day as we celebrate the fact that Christ died for our sins and the redemption of man was purchased 2,000 years ago on this day.

We’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida, from our studios here at the Calvary Community Church, and we look forward to being with you each and every day, Monday through Friday from Tampa, Florida here at our headquarters. This is Good Wednesday, and this is the day that Christ was crucified during the crucified fiction week 2000 years ago. There’s no possible way that Christ could have been crucified on Friday because you can’t get three days and three nights between Friday and Sunday.

Just as it worked. It’s not even part of a day, part of Friday, part of Saturday, part of Sunday. Christ rose exactly 72 hours after He’s placed on the grave and that’ll back you up way past Friday and also So when he rose, he rose at sundown at the end of Saturday and the beginning of the first day of the week, we just sat at it sundown. We’re having a sundown service this Saturday at 6 p.m. If you’re driving this, it’s going to invite you to come and join us for that wonderful celebration of the resurrection of Christ’s Saturday at sundown.

When most people are having a sunrise, we have a sundown because we believe that’s when Christ rose from the dead. If you leave Christ in the grave till Sunday morning, you violate what Christ said. He said three days and three nights, and if you leave him in the grave till Sunday morning, that’s an extra night. That would be three days and four nights. Clearly wrong. Absolutely wrong. And certainly is not true. Christ was crucified on Wednesday. It would have been today at 6 a.m.

The pilot would have said, Behold the man. He said he found no fault in him. When the crowd cried out, crucified him, and Pilate allowed for Christ to be crucified, and Jesus went to the cross, and was nailed to the cross at 9am. Bennett noon, God shut out the lights, as the heavens were darkened, and at three, Jesus gave up the spirit and died to pay for the sins of the world. The redemption of mankind was accomplished. As Jesus said, it is finished right there on the cross on the afternoon of that Wednesday which we are celebrating today as Good Wednesday.

By the way, tonight we’re having a Good Wednesday service. you’re welcome to come and join us this evening if you’re in the Tampa Bay area for a good Wednesday service tonight. Please come and of course on Saturday we’ll have a sundown service at 6 p.m. as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ and of course Sunday we’ll have resurrection services and we invite you to come to our 10 30 morning resurrection service on resurrection Sunday, this Sunday, the 8th of April, Saturday, April 7th, will have our sundown service at 6 p.m.

and we invite you to come and be a part of that. By the way, if you live in other parts of the country, you can watch our Sunday morning resurrection service on the internet by going to the camera on the homepage of our website, bivalignministries.orgo.com and you’ll be able to be connected and see live what we do here in Tampa at the Calvary Community Church. God bless all of you. Thank you for praying for us. Thank you for giving the Bibleline to keep us on the air.

If you haven’t given yet for the month of April, would you give a gift? You could do it by phone and do it by credit card. You could also call and get us to send you an envelope or envelopes to send a gift in to Bibleline. And we want I want to thank you in advance for your prayers and for your gifts to Bible. God bless all of you who really are partners with us in getting this program out to the world.

And thank you for your prayers and for your gifts. We’re now going to go to James in Tampa, Florida and James. Welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. How are you doing, sir? Sorry. I was watching a program last night where a priest was on the, or on a tux show and he was talking about how people have in trouble with Catholicism and believe that Catholics are more of a difference than what they are. But I’m wondering are they in a line like a pope because they believe in the, they have a confession bill they have.

have a clean mic over Christ. Well, I think they have allowed themselves to drift away from the Bible over the many centuries and now they’re just counting more upon church decrees and tradition than they are the Bible. You know, Jesus even said about the religious leaders of His time, the Jewish religious leaders, they have made the word of God of none effect by their tradition. The Roman Catholic Church is loaded and encrested with tradition which winds up contradicting the Bible and they’ve departed far away.

They need to come back to the Bible and I don’t think they’re ever going to do that. Unfortunately, we have things like in this season Ash Wednesday, Lent, Good Friday, all those things are not in the Bible. That’s just purely man-made. made. And of course, this latest thing that we just mentioned about the Pope not being a saint. And now they had this nun in France that didn’t pray to God, didn’t pray to Jesus, didn’t even pray to Mary, but prayed to John Paul after he’s dead, and he heals her.

And now that’s going to make him a saint. And it’s just absolutely so far from Scripture. We’re forbidden to pray to the dead. And the present Pope says he regularly prays to John Paul for direction and how to be a good pope and gets advice from him all the time. So this thing of praying to the dead is forbidden the Bible. It’s the same thing as a seance or going through a medium to contact the dead. The Bible forbids it.

We’re not to do that. Yet the Roman Catholic Church unashamedly openly practices praying to the dead, contacting the dead, and obviously prayers to Mary are in that same category. It says in 1 Timothy 2 Timothy 2, 5. There’s one God in one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. So the only mediator is Jesus. If you want to get to God, there’s only one way to get to Him and that’s through Christ. If you go through Mary or through John Paul, you’re not going to get to God and the Bible forbids us praying to the dead at all.

And so I think they’ve really severely departed. There’s wonderful people in the Catholic Church. God bless them. but they’re blinded by the system and the system has departed from the Bible and as a result they are teaching a salvation by works and by The church is the means of gaining salvation through keeping the sacraments. When you ask a Roman Catholic, do you believe in Jesus? They’ll say yes. But if you ask them, do you trust Christ as your only means to get to heaven?

They’ll say no. Because they’re taught that the church is where they need to put their trust to be saved. That the church will save them, and that’s not true. Christ is the Savior, not the church. Unless you trust Christ, you’ll never make heaven. I hope that helps. Is there why they keep him on the cross? I mean, you know, like you see that. Well they do because they keep crucifying him, so they leave him up on the cross because the fact is that Christ came off the cross and I think if you have a symbol at all, it ought to be a cross that is with no body on it because Jesus is no longer on the cross and he’s already paid our sin debt in full and is now alive and he’s back in heaven.

But yeah, the Roman Catholic Church has the mass, which is the sacrifice of Christ all over again. And I believe that’s the reason why they keep him on the cross. Well, the marks of a cult are that you have another authority, which is higher than the Bible. And the Roman Catholic Church has that. They have what they call the Magisterium, which is the only body in the world, according to the Roman Catholic Church, that can interpret the Bible. So not even your local priest can interpret the Bible for you, and you certainly cannot, as a Roman Catholic member, you have to depend upon the church to interpret the Bible.

And that group in Rome is that higher authority. And so basically, they are not going to go back to the Scriptures when they have this other authority that’s higher than the Bible. And of course, that’s reverse of what the Bible teaches. So that’s scary because you know that if they aren’t going to appeal to the Bible for their doctrine, but to this group called the Magisterium, they’re never going to come clean. Surely, thank you for calling James and we are going to go now to David in, let’s see here, David is in Palm Harbor, Florida.

David, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the line. Thank you. You’re all there. Go ahead, David. Oh, thank you, Dr. Lindstrom. I sure appreciate you and thank you for taking my call. I just wanted to say I had a comment on something you said earlier about whale. Really wasn’t whale. And I think as Christians, shouldn’t we encourage others to believe the Bible instead of questioning the Bible? I mean, if whale is not whale and it’s something else, then maybe believe in John Crete 16.

Maybe that really was something else. Well, maybe there’s a little more to that belief. And I just thought, you know, as Christians shouldn’t we encourage one another? Absolutely. You know, if you read the book of Jonah, which is where you need to go, it says fish, not whale. And it’s clearly a fish. And in Matthew, if you go to the Greek word, it is fish, not whale, but the King James translators, I think, wanted to try to help us out here because I think many of them were probably under the influence that Jonah did not die.

I’m surprised how many people believe that Jonah lived. But if you read this story of Jonah carefully, Jonah died. He says he went to shield. You can’t go to shield, which is the place of the dead unless you die. He said he went to the heart of the earth. He said his soul went down to the bottoms of the mountains and the earth with their bars was about him forever. He’s clearly dead. And then he talks about being resurrected from the dead.

And obviously we are getting some kind of a Pinocchio version of what the Bible is teaching, which is not true. But Jonah died and he was swallowed by a fish. We don’t know what kind of fish. But the Greek language is very clear. It’s not a whale. It’s a totally different word for whale and a whale is not a fish. So there is a distinction and the word, believe clearly from the Greek, is pestu, p-i-s-t-e-u-o and it means to trust, to rely upon, to put your confidence in the rest your weight upon.

And that is the word that’s used as the means of our salvation that we have to trust Christ, that he died and shed his blood was buried and rose again from the dead that he The Bible is quite specific. I graduated in electrical engineering. A plus B has the equal C for me. When I saw that the stories conflicted that I was hearing, and yet the Bible was not really being appealed to. What we were hearing was basically presentations that developed out of tradition or thought.

What we were hearing was basically presentations that developed out of tradition or from sermons or TV documentaries or other things rather than the scriptures themselves. It left me a little bit confused and I said, we have to go back to the Bible. The Bible is clear. There is no conflict there with what the Bible says. The Bible says it was a fish. The King James translation said, well, and if you go to the root story in the book of and says fish not well.

So the Hebrew word is fish, the Greek word is fish and so there’s no problem there. The Bible clearly is teaching it was a fish not a well. Well I just studied that same passage not too long ago I read a whole page about how CITOS, C-E-T-O-S, the Greek word there and then how compared to the words that we use today for different whales. Anyway, one of the things I wanted to mention is that something typical of Jesus Christ and what he says is he expounds the Old Testament and I think he expounded fish and said it was a whale.

And whether it was a whale or not, Jesus said it was a whale if that Bible is correct and if the Bible is not correct, maybe our faith is in vain and that that’s one thing i wanted to well do you believe that don’t die in the face or no i i think i think don’t die i think i think you died uh… in in a way of the jesus that it was a well according to uh… according to uh…

uh… that passage matthew twelve forty and i think that you know if if someone is smarter than the bible if they are smarter than the bible that we should be following them instead of the bible and uh… i just want to know I don’t know if anybody’s smarter than the Bible because God is the author of the Bible, but again that’s a problem. I don’t know where you’re looking up your word from, but the word for whale is a totally different word in the Greek and is not the word used in Matthew 12.

Thank you for your call and we appreciate that we now have Jeff down in Venice, Florida. Jeff, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Happy Good Wednesday, Dr. Hank. How are you doing? Good. You just had the conversation, I believe it was with James Buck, the cultish aspects of the Catholic Church. I refer anybody I can get to go to. Remember Great Bomsen, the late Great Bomsen? The apologists, he had debated Gordon Stein and the Great, that they had improved the existence of God through morality and logic.

He did a sermon, and it’s a free download on his website on Covenant Media¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Foundation, And it goes back to the cultish parts of the Catholic Church and it is the most outstanding documentary of the Catholic Church I have ever seen. So that will ever help anybody. And it’s just amazing. I urge everybody to check it out. So I figured that might help. Well thank you Jeff. I appreciate that help. God bless you. Take care. Alright. That was Jeff done in Venice, Florida, south of Tampa.

We now have Benjamin in Clearwater, Florida, and Benjamin, welcome to my blend. Good morning, Dr. Hank. I understand very clearly what you said about the three-day and the night, but also I want to know about something, about Luke 2354 that when you saw Washington Cross before I For a start the Sabbath day they put down Jesus from cross. I would like from you to explain to me Luke 23 54 please. Thank you. Alrighty. In Luke 2354, it says here, and that day was the preparation and the Sabbath through on.

Well, the Sabbath there was not the Saturday Sabbath, but it was the Passover, It was also considered a Sabbath. If you look at John 1931, Benjamin, it tells us that it was the preparation, but then it goes on to say that the Sabbath was following, but it was not the ordinary Saturday Sabbath. It says that Sabbath was a high day over in John 1931, so we get a little bit better explanation. And all of the feast days that God gave to Israel in Leviticus 23 are high holy days of Israel.

And if you’re Jewish… You’re probably observing those if you’re especially Orthodox Jews and these are the high holy days in the Passover was actually yesterday and that was a high holy day. Many Jewish people were celebrating the Passover on yesterday although during the week that Christ was fissified, we believe the Passover occurred on Thursday and so this would be good Wednesday and Christ would have been crucified today and he would have been crucified on the preparation of the Sabbath, the Passover Sabbath, but yesterday would have been a Sabbath for Jews.

So because the Passover is, I hope that helps clarify that a little bit for you and thank you for that call. The Bible is the amazing Word of God. There is no English translation that’s perfect and nor is the King James. And so that’s why you have to appeal. We have the strong concordance in our resource center, which is thicker than the yellow pages of your phonebook. It has every thee, every thou, every and every but, every shilt in your Bible.

And you can buy a simple number code system. Look up the original Hebrew or Greek word depending on whether the word is in the New Testament or Old Testament. And you can look up how it’s translated and when it meant. And so you can really go back and appeal to what the original words were. And obviously that’s what we need to do. For example, repent is a terrible translation of the Greek word metanoia. And that’s why we have such bad teaching when preachers are preaching repent or repent of sin.

The Greek word is metanoia, metamining changed, noia meaning mind, and the two together mean a change of mind and the English word repent doesn’t mean the same thing. So that was a bad translation. And so they translated metanoia into the English word repent, which if you go to your English dictionary means sorrow for sin or turning from sin, but the Greek word never meant that. And so Satan must be jumping up and down and has been for hundreds of years because of the bad translation of that word which added works to salvation.

And when When you read the meaning of change your mind, as the word is used, you’ll see that in the text that is the meaning. It’s a change of mind almost in every case about who Christ is in Acts 2 when Peter said repent. He had just preached that they had crucified Christ because they thought he was an imposter and he demonstrates the fact that Christ was not an imposter. He was the real thing. He came back from the dead and demonstrated that.

And his key point was in Acts 2, 36 where he says, therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that that same Jesus, the one whom you crucified, God have made both Lord and Christ, that he’s God and he’s the Messiah. And they said, what should we do? Peter said, change your mind, repent. And it’s amazing how so many people have been taught wrong that they think repent means to turn from sin or sorrow for sin. And that means works because if you have to turn from sin or be sorry for sin, that is an element of human works added to the planet’s salvation contradicts dozens and dozens of other verses that make it clear that salvation is not based on works.

I love what the hymn writer wrote when he said, Just as I am I come without one plea but that thy blood was shed for me. We come just like we are. We come as sinners. I love that hymn Christ died for sinful men. That’s the only kind he died for. And that’s everybody in the human race because we’re all sinners. And the amazing thing is that you, even as a believer, can have victory over sin through the power of the Holy Spirit, but you can never, ever stop sinning.

John the apostle said 60 years after he was saved, if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves. Now, and the truth is not in us. Now, he’s not, I don’t think we have to, you know, be committing murder or lying and stealing and all those kind of things. But yet, the Bible tells us we have a nature which is sinful. And everything we do is contaminated by that nature and is therefore, it fills me rags in God’s sight.

Martin Luther, the great reformer of the Reformation, said, as he was so honest and admitting that he said he even sinned when he preached. He was so talented. He translated the whole Bible into the German language and he was a powerful speaker and great hymn writer. He wrote that wonderful hymn, Mighty Fortress is Argonne. And he said that when he was preaching… He would find pride would swell up within him and he’d say Martin you are really good and he realized that that was sin as pride took over while he was preaching and so although he was a man as pure as I guess you could ask anyone to be as a preacher the gospel of Jesus Christ he still recognized that sin nature and how that pride would swell up within him as he preached even the word of God.

So, obviously, the Bible teaches us that. Isaiah, when he saw the Lord in Isaiah chapter 6, said, What was me? I am undone. I am unclean. I am as a man with unclean lips. And Isaiah, when seeing the righteousness of God in contrast to his own righteousness, he saw, and he later writes in chapter 64, that all of our righteousnesses are filthy And truly, when we see ourselves in the light of God’s righteousness, we are unrighteous. And we need His righteousness to be saved, and that’s why Christ died, so that His righteousness could be imputed to us when we place our trust in Christ that God declares us righteous.

In any case, this is good Wednesday. If you want to come out tonight, if you’re in Tampa to our good Wednesday service, you’re most welcome. Also, if you want to come out this sanity, we’re having a sundown service as we really price rose at sundown. And we’re recommending that you get rid of the E word and use the R word. It’s so powerful to say, happy resurrection when you greet people. When you say happy Easter, it has no power at all.

And that, of course, is the name of the mother of Baal. You wouldn’t want to use that anyway. But tell people this week when you greet them. Happy Resurrection. That’s a powerful message. I see people’s bodies rivet when I say that. It’s just a great testimony on your part that you’re a believer. When you say happy resurrection, it brings a message across that is powerful and you will impact somebody else’s life with this wonderful truth that we’re celebrating this week that Christ died.

But He also came back from the dead and He’s alive forevermore. Thank you for tuning in today. We have another caller sitting out there, but I don’t know that we got time to deal with it. Let’s just see. Joe, any questions real quick because we’re out of time? Oh, Dr. Lynch, don’t you? Yeah. Oh, yeah. The, the, I looked on here with the, um, repent and it says to feel regret dissatisfaction over something as to change one’s mind about.

And that’s what it says in the dictionary. So I feel that the word that God allowed them to use to stress the importance of what repent means is that when God means to repent for someone to change their mind, having that dissatisfaction over what their current belief was, that I think that they put the right word in and I believe that God had allowed them to do that. it does mean to change one’s mind about whatever it is well thank you for the information that’s out of the english dictionary but begin uh…

will have to go through this one more time sometime but actually the uh… uh… word repent comes from a form of penance and it really has to do with uh… bad theology we’re gonna have to run and uh… thank you for tuning in today keep looking up jesus is coming will be back Lord willing to mow.
