Bibleline Radio Show – 2007-04-19 – Water Baptism

Water baptism is a testimonial of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Water baptism has never been, nor will it ever be a means of securing the remission of sins. The baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins occurs at the moment of belief.

We already had a lady call and say she wanted she and her two sons to go. We had a church group call, 28 people.

People said they want to go and others are wanting to go. We are thinking about more of a working learning tour this October 28th and then also another regular type tour which you’ll see so much in March of next year. So we might go twice. We’re just looking at it. If you are interested at all, call us and get on our list. It will be trip number 15 for me. And we had such a wonderful time and we’d love to have you go on the next trip.

A lot of people are saying I’d like to go with you. And so let us know so we’ll know who is interested and who would like to be with us on the next trip. Next Tuesday we start a new class called End-Time Controversy. All about this controversy about is the Revelation future or is it past? Has the tribulation period already occurred and has the Kingdom already begun? There’s a lot of crazy teaching out there and we’re going to deal with that in 10 weeks or rather 10 hours of teaching over 5 weeks.

Beginning Tuesday night from 7 to 9 you’re welcome to come and sign up and be in the class. Also, we’re offering a special this week. If you order the CDs of this series, which will be sent to you after we complete the 10 hours of teaching, you will also get, as a gift from us, the passcode to be able to watch these on the internet. And you can join us as we do it live and throughout the class period, as often as you want to watch, you can do that.

We are excited about this new class, and I hope you’ll join us either in person or if If you live in another city by way of internet, the best way to do it is this week sign up and you’ll get twice the value because you’ll get the 10 CD sent to you when the class is over. You’ll also get the pass code to be able to take this class on the internet. We want to talk about the Bible today and we’ll take some callers.

People are already calling in and I hope you will call in if you have a question. You can leave it off air or you can go right on the air live with us. We also want you to know that we are listeners supported if you want to help by the line. We would like to have your help this month of April and you can give a gift by credit card over the phone or you can send a gift by mail if you call our operators.

But we’d like to send you an envelope with our address on it if you’d like to do it that way. And of course we thank you in advance for keeping Bible on the air. We’re so excited about going to Africa. We’re going to be going on shortwave all over the whole continent of Africa. Very excited. We already have internet listeners from all over Africa, South Africa, all the way up to the Ivory Coast on the west side. countries here in Nigeria, Ghana, and numerous West Coast of Africa countries, plus Egypt on the other coast, and Somalia, Ethiopia, and many other countries are logging in to Bibleline, and we’re excited about that.

So we’ll be on shortwave, and that’s not going to cost us. Isn’t that wonderful? We’re going to be able to do that free. We’ve been offered an opportunity to be on one hour a day in Africa on short waves. So pray for my mind as we reach out. We’re excited about the opportunities coming our way. We have people lining up here on the phones. If you want to call, it’s 1-800-576- 3-7-1. Yesterday we’re talking about repentance and of course the Greek word is metanoia.

Meta, M-E-T-A meaning change. Noia, N-O-I-A meaning mind. The two words together metanoia mean a change of mind. And that is the predominant word used in the New Testament translated repent in English. But that was not a good translation because the English word repent does not mean the same thing. And most people have gone astray because they’ve looked to their English dictionary, not a Greek dictionary, and they’ve come up with the meaning of the word repent, which is wrong, as far as not representing what the Greek word metanoia says.

Throughout the book of Acts, most every time the repentance or the change of mind is about Who Jesus Christ is. We have Sam called in from Nashville, Tennessee, after the program, and he said, why did you stop at Acts 2.38 repent and not continue on to be baptized in the name of Jesus for their mission of sin? Well, because we weren’t talking about the rest of the verse, we’re just talking about that Peter told him to change their mind, the word repent, meaning to change their mind about who Christ is, as Peter declared that he was not an imposter, not a counterfeit, not a fraud, but he was indeed the Messiah.

When they said, what should we do? Peter said, repent. But I will go ahead and comment on the next phrase. This is not talking about water. When it says there to be baptized, the word baptized means to be cleansed or washed, to be fully wellmed. It says there be baptized not in water, but it says in the name, in the name, of the Lord Jesus. And you’ll receive the remission of your sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Now, is there such a baptism? Yes. In other words, this is being cleansed or washed of your sin. In the name or the authority that Christ gave, that whosoever would believe on Him would receive their sins forgiven. Let me share with you another example of this Sam in Nashville, and I hope that this will help you. But over in 1 Corinthians chapter 6, there’s a wonderful reference here to salvation. It talks about a whole list of things that would keep any one of which would keep you out of heaven.

They will not enter into the kingdom of heaven any thieves or cubitus or drunkards or evilers and so on, but it says in verse 11, and such for some of you, but you are washed, and then it says here, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. So in other words, there is a cleansing, there is a baptism in the name, and this is like God giving us a check, and it is drawn on the Bank of Heaven in the amount of eternal life and it’s made out to whosoever, that’s including you and me, that believeth in Christ, and it’s signed at the bottom by Jesus Christ.

So in his name, because he signs the check, we can cash it and cash it on everlasting life, which is offered to whosoever believeth in Christ. But you know, Jesus is the one. You see that word often in the New Testament where it says that in John 1 12 to as many has received Christ to them gave the power to become the sons of God to them that believe on His name. You see, Jesus Christ is God and His name carries weight and He gives authority in His name that whosoever would believe or trust in Christ would receive their sins forgiven.

So Acts 2, 13, it is not talking about water and it is not talking about turning from sin When Peter said repent, he meant to change your mind about who Christ is that he is both the Lord, he is God, and he is the Messiah. Secondly, be washed or cleansed of your sin in the name of the Lord Jesus. Let me remind you of the verse in 1 Corinthians 611 where it says, and such were some of you, but you are washed in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our God.

So the moment you trust the Lord, you become washed of your sin. I’m Dr. Inklyn’s from Mrs. Bibleline and we’re going to go ahead and take some live collars. We have Mike in Largo, Florida and Mike, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Yes, Pastor. I have a question. You said something about that. Alright, I talked about parables, not parables. Parables. Okay, I’m sorry. But I still want to know why. Alright, that’s a good answer. And that’s because those who don’t want to know truth will not discover truth, but those who want to know the truth will find the truth.

You know, Christ said, seek and you shall find, and it shall be given unto you and that is a principle. Over in Matthew Jesus said something very interesting in chapter 11. He said here, I thank the O Father. This is Matthew chapter 11 verse 25. Jesus here is praying to the Father and he says I thank the O Father, Lord of heaven and earth because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and has revealed them unto babies.

So basically here those that were wise in their own conceits, those that were wise in their own minds were shut out from the truth. But those that were just babies who were interested in seeking the truth, God revealed the truth to them. And that’s a principle throughout the Bible. First Corinthians talks about that the wise would think that the Bible was foolishness. But those that are more simple and just wanting to know the truth would find it was the wisdom of God.

And so that’s the key is if you want to know the truth, God will make it plain. But if you are not seeking truth or don’t want to know truth, the Bible becomes much more difficult for you and you become blinded. And you head further away from the truth and into darkness. And that’s the principle of parables. Parables were given to us who are believers, but it was given to hide truth from those that are without or those that were not saved.

In Mark 4, 11 and 12 that we quoted yesterday, Christ said that seeing, he spoke on parables, He says that seeing they would see and not perceive and hearing they would hear and not understand less than any time they should be converted and their sins should be forgiven. No doubt about it. He spoke in parables to conceal truth, not to reveal truth, and therefore parables need to be dealt with very carefully. We need to make sure that the interpretation that we have lines up with other scripture because the Bible is in harmony because God is the author and it does not contradict itself.

I did a series on parables, I think 10 or 12 hours of teaching on CD where I go through the major parables, teach the principles of how to interpret parables because I’ve got tons of books on my book lover. But I could just take you to six different commentaries that would give you six different ideas about what a parable is about. And that’s because they don’t use the principles of interpretation where you compare scripture and you interpret a difficult verse in the light of a clear one.

And so therefore people just go astray and they make the parables to say whatever they want them to say. But there are specific meanings for them, but you have to of course apply the principles. You know in some cases Christ himself interprets them for us, so there we’re in the clear because we don’t have any doubt about what they mean. But if we could just apply those same principles of how Christ interpreted them to the ones that he doesn’t uh…

will come out just fine as long as our interpretation agrees with all the rest of scripture michael pet helps all the fantastic is really clear thank you ever so much mike you’re welcome and it was mike in largo for the calling in and we’re now going to go to uh… roger in mobile alabama roger welcome to buy one year on the line uh… i’d like to jump on the x chapter two thing uh… first of all uh… you brought out the point that uh…

peter was talking to jewish believers that were just coming across from uh… the law to grace well they weren’t believers yet they got saved right there when he told them what to do yeah but but it says also in that script from there’s many other things he preached there wasn’t specifically defined uh… as well but i want to i want to bring out a point here peter had to be renewed uh… to the age of grace uh… we see the the vision of the sheet coming down before he went to visit Cornelius.

God had to show them that they were coming out from one covenant to the other in regard to eating meats and so forth. Also, Peter wanted to separate himself on one occasion. Paul had to rebuke him from the Gentiles. So there’s some renewal that needed to be taken place specifically with Peter. And Paul got together with him and Jerusalem on one occasion. And they hammered these things out. What grace really meant. The Corinthian church and said the first gospel that he taught was how Jesus died on the cross, how his period and how he rose again.

That was the very first time. first thing they needed to know for self. Some time I believe for that Jewish church, that young Jewish church to get renewed from that age of law to grace and really understand what the meaning of grace says. I thought I’d add that in there. All right, very good. Again, Peter and Paul were on the same page and Peter was the one that made the wonderful statement in Acts 15 when they all got together that we believe that by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we Jews shall be saved even as they the Gentiles.

Obviously, the message has always been by grace from Genesis to Revelation. Abraham was saved by grace, and everyone else that has ever been saved. Noah was saved by grace. Genesis 6.8 says Abraham rather Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. It has always been by grace. But there was the law though, the Jews were under, that now was taken away, nailed the Christ cross, and were no longer under the Old Testament law. And I agree with you.

It took them a while to really grasp that. But still, the message was the same right from the get-go. And on the Acts chapter 2, the day of Pentecost, Peter preached a very clear message. And they needed to simply change their mind and be cleansed in the name or the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins. Thank you so much for your call and for adding that. We now have Edgar in Petersburg, Virginia on the line.

Edgar, welcome to Vinaline. Hello, Doug. How are you doing this morning? Good. All right. I’m turning there right now. And this, of course, was a psalm of David after he had committed the sin of adultery with Bathsheba, and he is remorseful and asked God to not take away the joy of his salvation and not take away the Holy Spirit from him. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit could be taken from a believer, and we find here that David was concerned about that.

In verse 5, it tells us basically that we’re all sinners, Edgar. It says here, behold, David says, I was shaped in iniquity and in sin that my mother conceived me. So we know that from conception on we have a sin nature inherited from Adam. And so everyone in the human race is a sinner by birth and by conception and by nature. We sin because we are sinners. Some people have thought that we become sinners when we sin. That is not true.

We sin because we are already a sinner. We have that nature. A dog doesn’t become a dog when he barks for the first time. A dog is a dog by nature and by nature dogs will bark and a dog will bark because they have the nature of a dog to bark but they don’t become dogs when they bark. So if you just kept your dog muscled and never loud in the bark, it wouldn’t mean he wasn’t a dog. But his nature is for him to bark.

Edgar, thank you very much. And thank you for that call from Petersburg, Virginia. The question was about Psalm 51 verse 5 where David tells us that we are sinners from conception. We have a nature inherited from Adam that is really the cause of why we sin. Okay we have Linda in Spring Hill Florida calling and leaving this question off here. She says Pastor Hank does water baptism for believers represent our cleansing to begin our priesthood just as Jesus was baptized to be cleansed to begin his.

Well Linda you’re pretty much right there. I believe that Christ was at 30 years of age, just like the Old Testament priest back in the Old Testament, was immersed fully once. As he began his priesthood, as he was consecrated for the priesthood, it was a picture of the fact that we’re saved one time, that we’re cleansed of our sin before God judicially at the moment of faith, the moment we trust Christ, and forever thereafter. So, water baptism is a picture of that cleansing that occurs by the blood of Christ, not by the water, but it also is the beginning then of our new life that we are to be living for Christ as a believer, not to be saved, but because we are.

We have David and Crystal River calling in, leaves a statement. He says all raptures will occur on harvest feasts. Well, I don’t know what raptures you are talking about. There is one rapture in particular that we talk about and that’s when Jesus comes and He will come part way to the earth. He will shout and the believers new bodies will rise up from the earth, be reunited with their souls that are with the Lord when He comes back and then we which are alive and remain will be cut up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

So I don’t know about the plural there on raptures, maybe that was just a typo. But definitely the Feast of Trumpets is the Feast I believe that the rapture will happen on. The first four feasts have already been fulfilled literally on the day. The Feast of Passover, Christ fulfilled it by His death on the cross. The Feast of Unleavened Bread was a picture of His burial. He was buried during that feast. He rose on the Feast of First Fruit State.

The Feast of Pentecost began this church age. The next feast, the Feast of Trumpets, I believe will conclude this age. And with the sound of a Trump, up we go, and we’ll meet the Lord in the air. And then God will turn back to dealing with the Jews and the tribulation period, we’ll be underway. And we’ll be out of here and the church will be complete. The bride of Christ will meet the Lord in the air and we’ll come back seven years later with Christ, the ruling reign here on this earth.

Alright, we have George in South Carolina. He says many times I have read in the Bible. Now the word of the Lord came unto someone saying, an example is Jonah 1-1, how do we suppose this took place? Face to face or like Moses saw the Lord at the burning bush and so on. Well, we don’t know exactly in many of those cases, but the word did come to them. Sometimes it was in visions. Daniel had numerous visions, so did Zachariah and Isaiah and so on.

But in the case of Moses, it was face to face. But basically the Lord spoke to and through the prophets and gave us his word. And that’s what we have in the Bible. Thank you, George. And we now have Charles in Lansing, Michigan, who calls in with this question, leaving it off here. What is the difference between baptized being baptized in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit versus in Jesus’ name? Well you cite Acts 2, 38 there, I don’t think it’s talking about water, but when we baptized people, obviously Jesus said in Matthew 28 that we’re to baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

I don’t really think it makes a whole lot of difference whether you say in Jesus’ name or the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. They all have the same name. All three are God and all three are Yahweh. And so God the Father is Yahweh. The Son is Yahweh and the Holy Spirit is Yahweh. And you’ll find that it says that in 1 of verse in Matthew 28 where it says, baptize of him in the name singular of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

That’s because he all had the same name. There’s one God who eternally exists as three separate persons, God the Father, God the eternal Son and God the eternal Holy Spirit. Thank you, Charles and Lansing, Michigan. We now have Mike leaving an offer a question from Port Charlotte, Florida. And Mike says, what does Paul mean when he says all things are lawful, but all things do not end if I. What he’s saying there is that once you become saved, you could do anything and it would not affect your salvation because you have already satisfied the law in that Christ paid for every sin that you would ever commit in your lifetime past, present and future.

And therefore you could go out and do things that are… He says that it’s not a smart thing to do. If you sin as a believer, although you could do that and still go to heaven, God says that you’ll be chastened or disciplined by God if you do. Secondly, you’ll be held accountable and suffer the loss of reward. Secondly, you’ll be held accountable and suffer the loss of reward and embarrassment at the judgment seat of Christ when we’re going to give an account for all the things that we’ve done in our body.

So Paul says, I can do anything but I’m not going to because that’s not expedient. That is not the right thing to do and I’ll have to pay a price for that. Well, we’re coming up on our break time. I hope everybody listening is trusted Jesus as their Savior. If you haven’t, you need to do that. Just tell the Lord, Lord, I’m a sinner. And Lord, I trust Jesus right now to save me. And He will based upon Christ’s death and shed blood as the only means of your salvation.

I’ve been hearing lately of missionaries in Japan, missionaries in Korea, and other parts of the world that are benefiting from Bibleline.

Why not tell your missionary friends in other countries, email them, or send them a letter telling them about Bibleline? Also, friends and relatives in other countries, those in the military, they can tune into Bibleline wherever they might be in the world. Isn’t that exciting? We’re looking forward to a new door God is opening for us to go all over the continent of Africa on shortwave. Pray for that. We’re excited about what God is doing. We have a new class beginning this coming Tuesday and no matter where you live you can take that on the Internet.

Here’s the deal. We’re offering a special. If you order this week the CDs that’s 10 CDs of the 10 hours of teaching we We will do. They will be sent to you after we conclude the class and if you send in or by credit card pay the $50 for those 10 CDs to be sent to your home, we will also give you the passcode so you can watch these programs on the internet as we teach this new class called in-time controversy.

It’s all about what Peter protected would happen in the last days that there would be those that would come along and say, where is the promise of this coming? many outstanding or well-known Bible teachers that are saying Christ has already come. The book of Revelation has already been fulfilled that we are living in the Kingdom now and of course that is not true. We are going to be talking about those issues and you can call and order the CDs now and get the additional benefit of being able to watch these as we deliver them on the Internet or at your leisure.

We certainly hope that you’ll pray for Bibleline if you haven’t given a gift to Bibleline this month of April. Would you do it? You can do it by credit card over the phone or you can call and ask for an envelope to be sent with our address on it and you can give a gift to help Bibleline. Thank you in advance. We’re going to Israel again. We just got back and we’re already playing another trip. If you want to, go with us.

We’ll call in with your name and phone numbers so we can put you on a list so we can keep you informed as we develop our plans. But we might go at the end of October and we might also go again in March of 2008. So let us know if you’re interested and we’ll talk to you further about our plans to revisit Israel. We just got back a couple of weeks. of weeks ago. Stay tuned. We’re going to do the second half hour Bibleline of your station does it carry it go to the internet you’ll catch the full program Bibleline Ministries dot org stay tuned would you like to call by the line and ask dr lins from a question you can just pick up your phone and dial one eight hundred five seven six three seven seven one that’s one eight hundred five seven six thirty seven seventy one

now here again is dr hank lins from all right we’re back from that breaking this is a line and we’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios right here at the Calvary Community Church, where I’m the pastor, and we’re excited about the times in which we’re living in. We are in a big war over the coming of Christ. Has He already come? Is the book revelation already fulfilled? Well, those are the issues we’ll be discussing in a class we’ll begin next Tuesday night for 10 hours.

We’ll talk about the wrong interpretive methods of many of those that are teaching today that the book of Revelation is not future, it’s past, that the tribulation period was between the 80s, 63 and 70, and that we’re in the kingdom now. These are crazy teachings, really, wabbous of the blessed hope and the coming of Christ to snatch out the believers at the event of the rapture, which they say doesn’t even occur. So if you want to take this class, you can come over and sign up and be with us next Tuesday night for five weeks from seven to nine, ten hours of teaching and I think you’ll find it really a challenge.

And also we’re going to be putting them out on the internet. If you will sign up now and order the ten hours of teaching on CD, we’ll for no extra charge give you the passcode so you can watch these classes at your leisure or as we deliver them on the internet. It’s really a hundred dollar value, but for a gift to Bible on for 50, we will send you all those CDs as soon as the class is completed. So give us a call and let us know.

By the way, pray for Bible on as we now will go on shortwave all over the continent of Africa and for free. That’s exciting. We’re preparing our messages right now and we will have an hour a day all over Africa on shortwave. excited and that will be free to Bibleite. So pray for us as the Lord is opening doors of great opportunity for us to reach out to the continent of Africa. Many dear folks there I think are hungry and ready to go.

When we were in Israel we were so surprised we would meet a wonderful group of Nigerians. David Moltrex invited them to our Bible study at the hotel in the evening in Galilee and about 30 or 40 of them came. One of them stood up and said, I listened to Bibleline in Nigeria on the internet. And then amazing. And he followed us around the rest of the trip. We got big, big friends with IOD, his name. And he had some relatives in the United States.

He called him up, told him to listen on the internet. And they were so excited that he reported back to him. They heard his name mentioned as we were doing programs from Israel. And they heard me mention that he was their present in our radio broadcast from Israel. And what an exciting time. Then we met other pastors from Northern Nigeria who also recognized me and said they watch our programs and listen to them on the internet in Nigeria. I was like the Lord saying, don’t miss this opportunity to go to Africa with the gospel as we will now go on shortwave.

And that was an offer given to us back in February and we’re now working to make that a reality. Pray for us. And if you haven’t given a gift of Bible in this month of April, would you send a gift by mail or do it by credit card over the phone? Our operas will be glad to assist you. And if you need an envelope sent to you with our address on it, they’ll be glad to do that at all.

All right, we have Bob in the land calls in off air. He says, not sure what you believe. Question, do you believe you need to be baptized to be saved. All right, good question, Bob. The answer is yes, but not with water. The baptism that saves is the cleansing or the washing that takes place when you trust Christ. And that is a cleansing or washing in the name or in the authority of Jesus’ name. As he said that he would save all those that would believe on him.

So, water doesn’t wash away your sin. We could take you, Bob, or anyone else and anchor you in the Atlantic or the Pacific or in the Gulf of Mexico and leave you there for years, it would not take away one sin. The Bible even says in the book of Jeremiah that you could take strong soap and it wouldn’t wash away your sin. Iniquities would still be marked before the Lord. But it says in Revelation 1-5, under Jesus, that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood.

So it’s only the blood of Christ that can wash away your sins, and that occurs when you trust Jesus Christ as Savior, you become washed of your sin by the blood of Jesus Christ, never by water. So I do believe that you are saved without water baptism, the dying thief never had a chance to be water baptized, yet he was saved. But I also believe, as a believer, to be obedient to the Lord, we ought to give testimony to that cleansing by the blood by being water baptized.

We baptize a lot of folks here at my church, and we put them under the water, and that immersion is a picture of the total cleansing of all of your sins that occurs at the moment you get saved. We baptized the number of people in the Jordan River a few weeks ago in Israel. We put them all the way under. The water was cold. The boy, they shot up like a rocket because the water was very, very cold that day when we baptized.

But they were not saved by the baptism. They were saved by trusting Christ. Hope that helps, Bob. Thank you so much. We have been in Ziffer Hills, Florida, and been welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes. Hello, Dr. Hank. Let me turn this down. down. I’m listening to you on the internet. I have a couple of questions. If you could help me with them, I’d really appreciate it. In John chapter 20, after Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene and then to the disciples, he said something here that I just have a question about.

In verse 22, when he had said this, he breathed on them and said, received ye the the Holy Ghost. I understood that the Holy Spirit didn’t come into the church until the day of Pentecost. What actually occurred there? Well here we are still under the Old Testament economy and you’re right they didn’t receive the Holy Spirit permanently and dwell them until Pentecost. So for those forty days while Christ showed himself alive and taught them, he gave them the Holy Spirit temporarily to empower them to receive what he was teaching them, but I believe the Holy Spirit left them.

But then 10 days later at Pentecost they received the Holy Spirit to permanently involve every believer of this age until the rapture takes us out. And then again, they will go back into the Old Testament economy and the Holy Spirit will come and empower some, the 144,000 in particular, but the Holy Spirit will come and go and not be permanently in dwelling believers as he does during this age. So it was a temporary dwelling for 40 days. I see.

Okay. Can I ask you another question? Sure. Okay. And that right followingption, there’s another verse that I just can’t quite seem to get understanding on here. Verse 23 says, whosoever sends you, they’re remitted unto them. And whosoever sends you, retain, they’re retained. What does that mean? Well, that’s a power that all of us have in the message that we bring. We have the power of life and death in the gospel. And when we give someone the gospel message and they believe it, I can tell them on the authority of God’s word that their sins are forgiven.

If they reject the gospel, I can tell them on the authority of God’s word that they’re in trouble. But if they die without Christ, they’ll go to hell. And they will not stand before the Lord having their sins forgiven, but they’ll stand before the Lord in their sins and they’ll have to pay a penalty by being cast in the hell if they die without in mind. Now of course you read the rest of the New Testament and you see that Peter tells us plainly that neither is their salvation in any other from this none of the name under heaven given among men were by we must be saved by Article 12.

And then in Chapter 10 verse 43 Peter says to Christ give all the prophets witness it through through his name, whosoever believeth in him shall receive the remission of their sins. So he taught remission of sins through the message of the gospel and when they believed that they were forgiven and their sins were remitted, but if they rejected Christ, then their sins were retained. Okay, okay, great. Could I ask you one more question? Oh, go ahead. Okay, thank you, sir.

I have it settled in my heart that Jesus only offers one kind of salvation, and that’s eternal. And however, there still are some verses that give me a little bit of trouble in terms of witnessing to others this truth. And particularly in the book of 1 John, where a Bighteth and him sent up to the Bible. not. Whoever sineth hath not seen him neither known him. Now I know as a Christian I can still sin but I have a little trouble with that person and there are two or three others in that same chapter that go along that same line.

Can you help me with that please? Sure and verse 9 in particular explains that I believe is talking about the new birth and how the new birth that we have of God is a sinless, incorruptible birth that is not capable of sinning. It says in verse 9 of 1 John 3, whosoever is born of God, that’s the new birth, thus not commit sin, for God’s seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin because he’s born of God. So at the same time back in chapter 1, John refers to our old nature and he says, if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

So we have a conflict in the believer’s life. We have a new nature that is an incorruptible nature, born of an incorruptible seed, God’s seed, and it’s not capable of sinning. But then we have an old nature that still went as till we dropped this body that will still desire to sin against the Lord. The Bible tells us that these are contrary to the one to the other and they’re in conflict with one another. Let me share with you a neat couple of verses here.

First Peter talks about these two different births. He talks about in 1 Peter 1 and 23 being born again, not of corruptible seed, which was true of the first birth that we inherited from Adam. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, the endemic birth was corruptible, but it says but of incorruptible by the Word of God which lived within the Bible forever. So Peter talks about the new birth being of an incorruptible seed, which means it cannot He is corrupted and doesn’t sin.

Then in Ephesians 4 we have Peter, I rather Paul, talking about the two different births that we have. And he says in verse 22 that we should put off concerning the former manner of life, the old man which is corrupt according to the deceitful lust. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. In verse 24 he says, and that you put on the new man, that’s the new birth, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

So we have the new birth which is created in righteousness and true holiness and then we have the old nature that we should put off from following that lifestyle of the old nature and tells us that it is the old man corrupt according to the deceitful lust. So we have two births if you’re a Christian, you only have one birth if you’re a lost person and they lost have only that corrupt nature from Adam but the believer has a new one that’s sinless and not capable of sinning.

So John is contrasting the two that we should walk after the new birth or after the new man and that which should be the one that becomes visible and dominant in our life. And the old nature is going to be there though till you die. Yes sir and what it would do a disservice of God does not commit sin for a seed remain in him. I think that’s obviously the key word there. And he cannot sin. Would it be accurate to project there that that sin could not be held against him?

Well, it’s saying you can’t sin. So the new birth cannot sin at all. But what’s when we sin is because of the old nature that we still have with us. You know, Paul discusses this whole thing in Romans chapter 7. He says in verse 18, I know that in me that is in my flesh, well, if no good thing. So Paul talks about this about 30 years after he’s saved, that he still struggled between the old man and the new man, new man being righteous, the old man being deceitful and wanting to satisfy our physical lusts.

But there’s a struggle and Paul said the secret is that Christ will be able to deliver us. We can have power over sin and victory over sin in our lives as we appeal to the Holy Spirit and to Christ to give us victory over our sin for nature and live for the Lord successfully. Yes, sir. Okay. Well, thank you so much for your time. You’re so welcome and thank you for calling. We now have John and he’s in Richmond, Virginia.

John, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes, I’ll thank you so. Okay, that’s in Mark 1615 where it says to go into all the world and preach the gospel every creature. Verse 16 says he to believe it and his baptized shall be saved, but he to believe it not shall be damned. Well, the baptism there I believe is not. not water. But is that of the Holy Spirit? If you read the context of Mark’s Gospel in chapter 1 verse 8, it says there John says, I indeed have baptized you with water, but he Christ shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

There is no mention of baptism again until you get to chapter 16. And there you have Christ already crucified, buried, and now risen from the dead. And Jesus is the one who is speaking, and he says there, he the one that he baptizes with, and he baptizes with the Holy Spirit when you believe, and that is the one that saves. It’s certainly not talking about water. I hope that helps friend. He’s been talking about the Holy Spirit throughout his ministry, and he tells him that after he is glorified, then he will leave and the Holy Spirit will come and he tells them in Acts 1 to wait until the day of Pentecost, and that’s when the promise from on high would be given.

The Holy Spirit would end to all the believers. It is that baptism of the Holy Spirit that saves, and if you are a believer, you have been baptized with Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12-13 says, by one Spirit, are we all baptized into one body, whether we be bond or free, whether be Jew or Greek, and have all been made to drink into one spirit. The result is verse 27 of 1 Corinthians 12, where it says, Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

The result of the baptism, which is the placing of the believer into the body of Christ, is our salvation experience. And as a result of that baptism of the Holy Spirit, we are placed in the Christ body, and we are eternally his and cannot be lost. So John I sure hope that helps you. At Mark 16, 16 is not talking about water. It’s talking about the baptism and the Holy Spirit that John the Baptist had predicted would occur with Christ that he was baptizing with water.

Christ would not baptize with water. There is not one verse. In fact, it says in John chapter 4 that Jesus never baptized anybody with water. He baptizes with the Holy Spirit. And that happens at the moment of belief to every believer, and that is the baptism that saves. Troy, in Glenwood, Florida, calls in, leaves this question off here. He says, you say, Gehenna, and Hades is not hell. No, I didn’t say that. Hades is not hell, but Gehenna is hell.

And then we find, Troy goes on to say that the lake of fire is hell. I thought hell is the temporary place in the heart of the earth. Well Hades is the temporary place in the heart of the earth. And unfortunately in the King James translation they translate Hades as hell. That’s why if you have a Schofield reference Bible in the margin it’ll point out what is the Greek word. It is Hades there in Luke 16 where the rich man is in flames in Hades.

In the King James it says, and in hell he lifted up his eyes being in torment. But he was in Hades. And that’s why a strong concordance would be excellent. We have them here in our Resource Center, and it’s a marvelous tool that has every word, every the, every now, every and every butt, every shelf. And you can look up the word in the strong concordance and look up the original word by a number code system to the Hebrew, if it’s an Old Testament word, to the Greek dictionary If it’s a New Testament word, you can find out what the word was in the original, how it’s translated, and what it means, and that is a great tool.

So Troy, the answer is, Hades is not hell. Hehema. He is the lake of fire where Jesus said the soul would never die and the fire would never be quenched. Troy, I hope that helps if not call back. We have George in South Carolina. Please discuss the laying on of hands in today’s culture of cults. Well, many today, of course, use this as a magical thing to empower people or to pass power or healing onto others, and that certainly is not what the Bible teaches.

The laying on of hands basically meant literally a designation by the hand. So when they were ordaining, for example, elders or deacons, they would lay hands, and it was basically to say to the congregation or to those viewing that this is the man or this these are the men that we have examined and have found to be worthy of being leaders in the church and we are designating by our hands these are the ones that are the ones that were ordaining as elder jadikans in the church and so on.

Dickey in Northport Fortacal is in with this all fair question she says when we die in Christ? Are we in some paradise or do we remain in the grave until we are risen? Good question, Vicki, and the answer is we are in heaven itself. Write this down 2 Corinthians 5-8. It says, absent from the body, present with the Lord. So the moment you die, the Bible says as a believer, you are absent from the body and you are present with the Lord.

That’s in heaven and no we don’t remain in the grave and we don’t go to some separate paradise. We go straight to heaven to be with the Lord’s 2 Corinthians 5-8. David in Crystal River, Florida, leaves this offer a question. He says, I believe the rapture will occur on Pentecost, the day that the church age started. Well, that’s wonderful, but I disagree with you. I believe that the seven feast days are in a sequence. They’re back in Leviticus 23 and they’re going to play out in order.

Four have been fulfilled and Pentecost has been fulfilled. The next feast, the Feast of Trumpets, which is Rosh Hashanah, I believe will be the Rapture of the Church. But we can disagree on that and I won’t lose any sleep and I hope you won’t. I definitely believe that the next feast has not been fulfilled yet, and it will be the feast day upon which the rapture will occur. It will be September this year, and I hope you are a believer.

If you are David, I will meet you in the air, and then we can talk about who is right. We are now going to go to Spartanburg, South Carolina. We have Richard, and Richard says after the thousand years the devil will be loosed for a little while to deceive a little while, please explain. Well, at the end of the millennium, apparently, even though ideal conditions exist, Christ is visibly ruling on the earth, Satan and his angels are bound up in the bottomless pit in the heart of the earth in Hades, we find that there will be children born to those who come out of the tribulation period in their mortal bodies and are the subjects of the thousand-year kingdom and their children will grow up and have children and so on and so on.

And apparently many of these will not trust the Lord as their Savior. Satan has loosed at the very end for a short period to round up all these unbelievers and it’s in evidence again of the deceitfulness of the human heart that people under the most ideal conditions there will be still those who will reject Christ even while he is visibly present and they can’t blame the devil and say the devil made me do it because he will be bound up during that whole time.

Interesting isn’t it? That certainly is a shocker I think to find that wow, when perfect conditions exist even them the human nature is such that some will not trust the Lord as Savior.
