We hope you’ll come by sometime and knock on the door if you’re in the area. And we’re open to about 430 every day. You can come in and browse. We have the book of Daniel by Clarence Larkin. That’s an excellent book. Clarence Larkin wrote about a hundred years ago. He was ahead of his time. He believed the scriptures, obviously, and as a result, he drew charts with the Jewish people going back to the land of Israel, becoming a nation again, exactly as prophecy had foretold, and yet he was still forty years ahead of when Israel became a nation in 1948.
His insight in the scripture is remarkable, and you’ll really enjoy that book. It’s a gift of twenty dollars. We also have one of the greatest books on prayer I believe I have read and I’ve got a lot of books on prayer. One by John R. Rice. Paul Prayer asking and receiving. That’s only a gift of eight dollars. That’s really in an expensive one. We have another one that’s really inexpensive. It’s a Bible promised book in King James a thousand verses all they’re printed out in their entirety from the King James and they’re listed by topic and It’s a great way to just get into your Bible and also find verses on topics when you’re looking about peace or comfort or or humility or whatever the topic might be.
The verses are arranged and they’ve got a nice selection. I think you’ll enjoy it. Plus of course we have the Lewis-Barre Shafer Systematic Theology. That is a jewel. I’m not too sure how much longer it’ll be in print. It’s something that has been a classic. And the original eight volumes are now condensed to four. And it retails for 180. You can get it here at Bible and for a gift of 100. Why not consider adding that to your library?
If you’re a serious student, definitely you would want to have that. If you want to get something simpler, we have Dr. Ryrie’s book on doctrine, which retails, for I forget how much, but we have it for a gift of 30. And that is a nice comprehensive one volume, thick one, but it’s a nice one volume thing to have on your shelf. If you do any kind of research on different doctrines, that’ll be the book you’ll want to have. Anyway, we’re going to talk about the scriptures for a little bit.
Then we’ll be taking our live callers. We have all fair questions coming in. If you go to the internet and go to BibleInemindustries.org, click on the spinning globe. Our radio page will come up and there’s a place there for you to submit your question off air. Just type in your first name, the city you’re calling from, and your question and hit submit and we’ll get that and we’ll get it right up on the air and try to answer that for you.
Today I’m going to have you turn in your Bible with me to Mark’s Gospel. We’ll turn to Mark chapter 4 and here’s a very fascinating passage. It’s not the only passage but it is one of the clearest as to why Christ spoke in parables. Why did He speak in parables? You know most people when you ask them they’ll say well he was telling a story in a simple way so that you could really get the point. You could really understand what he was trying to get across.
Guess what wrong answer wrong answer. The Bible tells us Christ spoke in parables not to reveal truth but to conceal truth. Did you know that? That’s right. Christ did not speak in parables to reveal truth. He spoke in parables to conceal truth. That might be a shocker for you if you’ve never heard that before, but let me just let the Scriptures speak for themselves because obviously the Bible is the authority. When you look over in Mark’s Gospel, chapter 4 it says in verse 10, and when he was alone, they there were about him with the twelve asked him of the parable, and he said unto them unto you it is as given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but unto them that are without that is the unsaved those that are without all these things are done in parables verse 12 says that seeing they may see and not perceive and hearing they may hear and
not understand less than any time they should be converted and their sins should be forgiven them. Isn’t that amazing? Let me read that verse again. All these things were done in parables for those that were without that seeing they may may see and not perceive, and hearing may hear, and not understand, not understand, lest at any time they should be converted and their sins should be forgiven them. In other words, parables are written to concealed truth, not revealed truth.
That’s why when you read the parables, you need to be very, very careful. I have lots of books. I have lots of commentaries. And you know, I could probably pull down five or six or seven commentaries off the shelf and go to what they would say would be the meaning of a parable and have six or seven totally different views. Why? Because parables can be made to say almost anything you want them to say. And if you’re not careful, you can really go doctorally straight.
You know, most churches that don’t have sound doctrine rely heavily on the parables because are able to manipulate them to be able to support their bad doctrine. What you have to do, and here’s a great rule of interpreting the Bible. The sciences of interpreting your Bible is called hermeneutics. That’s a big word you can throw around. Hermeneutics, the science of interpreting the Bible. In basic language it means this. When ever you have a difficult verse, you always want to interpret that difficult verse in the light of a clear verse.
Because we believe the premise that the Bible is inspired is written of God. And if God is the author, he’s not going to contradict himself. He’s not going to say one thing in one passage and another thing in another passage it would contradict. In fact, Jesus said that in John 10, 35, He said the Scriptures cannot be broken. When he’s saying there, you can’t pick one scripture against another scripture and break the scriptures down and have them contradict. They don’t contradict.
We believe the Bible is the inerrant, infallible, inspired word of God that in the original autographs was absolutely from the hand of God without error. That’s right. the Bible is an incredible book that it’s written by God. Through men, yes, but without error in the original manuscripts, I know we’re not claiming infallibility for any translation. Because there are errors made in translations, and I still love the King James, but there are problems in the King James, no doubt about it.
But with a good study referenced Bible, you can overcome them. You know those King James has been around for so long since 1611. So people have thrown their spears and shot their arrows at this Bible for a long time and errors have been exposed in the translation. And if you have a good reference Bible, it’ll point out that problem. One of them, of course, that we mentioned on Bible and many times is repent. That was a bad translation. You know, the Greek word is meta noia.
Meta means change. Noya means mine, the two words together, metanoia, mean a change of mind. It does not mean turn from sin or sorrow for sin. But yet if you look at your English dictionary, you look up the word repent, that’s what repent means. But you see, it was wrongly translated, that should have never taken the Greek word metanoia and translated it into the English word repent. They really should have brought the Greek word into the English language. They did that with Babtizo.
You know there was no good word to translate the word baptize into. And so the translators took the Greek word Babtizo, which ends with an O. They took the O and removed it and put an E on it, made an E, an English word. And Babtizo was what we call transliterated. That’s the term that describes what they did. They took the Greek word, brought it into the English language, modified it to be an English word and we used the word baptize.
And that was great. Boy, I wish they had done that with metanoia. Wouldn’t it be great to hear preachers say, Metanoia! Metanoia! Metanoia! Instead of repent. Well, at least people would have to dig a little bit and find out the true meaning and not be misled as the English word repent doesn’t mean the same thing at all. You know to try to tell somebody that they have to repent to turn from sin to be saved is works. And obviously violates the Bible.
The Bible teaches just like the hymn writer had it right just as I am I come. You’re saved just as you are. Don’t you love that hymn just as I am I come without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me We’re saved just like we are God loved you and me as sinners Christ died for sinners and sinners can come just as they are in their sin and Trust Christ the Savior and receive the cleansing from that sin by the blood of Christ and receive the gift of eternal life and the forgiveness of their sin and then have the power of the Holy Spirit in them to be able to have victory over sin in their life.
But never does the Bible tell the lost person turn from your sin to be saved. After we’re saved we have the power to be able to have victory over sin in our life. But what we’re saying here is that you need to be able to determine what does the Bible In the case of parables, you need to interpret them in the light of clear scriptures. So, whenever you have a difficult passage and you have to throw all the parables into that category and say, what do we really mean?
Well, we have to come in agreement with the simple doctrinal presentations that you’ll find in the epistles and the rest of the Bible. If you have an interpretation of any verse that contradicts clear, simple verses, then you have a problem, you have a wrong interpretation. John 3 16 is such a simple verse. Martin Luther the Reformer said that verse is really the whole Bible in miniature. The whole Bible is really condensed into that wonderful verse in John 3 16.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth or trusteth in Christ should not perish but have everlasting life. And I think it’s the simplicity of that verse that makes it so popular. What a great verse it is, and it’s loaded with wonderful teaching. But it’s simple, but you’ll never forget one day I was witnessing to a gentleman, and I quoted John 3.16 to him, for God’s love the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that his who ever believed it than him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
And guess what he said? That’s your interpretation! That’s your interpretation! I said, oh, I can’t believe this. I said, I just quoted it. I did mean interpret it. I said, how about help me out? Would you interpret that verse? Obviously, he believed differently than John 3 16. So obviously, his position was wrong. And I stuck him with each phrase, for God’s love the world. What does that mean? Well, he had to admit that, my God loved the world. not hated the world, but he loved the world.
He gave his only begotten son. What does that mean? Well, he gave Jesus his son. That’s pretty clear. That who’s to ever believe it? What does that mean? Does it mean who’s to ever work it? Or who’s to ever baptize it? Or who’s to ever confirm it? Or pray it? Or do it? Or join it? Or climb it? Or whatever? No. It means who’s whoever believe it. And of course the Greek word there for believe means the trust. That you should not perish.
What does that mean? It means you won’t die. Tell me for sin is death, you know? And ultimately that would mean to be cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20, 14 says they were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. This is the second death. The Bible defines the terms. There’s not a whole lot of guesswork here. here. It says in John 3 16 that you would have, have as a present-tense verb everlasting life.
It’s pretty clear. Anyway, this gentleman was trying to say, as I just quoted John 3 16, that that was my interpretation. No, I just read the verse. I made him interpret the verse, phrased by phrased. And guess what? He finally concluded that it meant the same thing that I said it meant, the same thing that he heard when I quoted the verse to him that he disagreed with and he found himself in disagreement with the verse. There was no difficulty with interpretation.
It was a matter of belief and obviously he had not believed John 3 16 prior to that confrontation. Well, in any case, we’re going to try to go to the live callers now and offer callers. We could talk about parables for a long time. By the way, I have a 10-hour series on CD available on parables. I think you’ll find it exciting because we go through some of the most difficult parables and explain them in the light of clear scriptures, giving the principles of interpreting the Bible so that you can figure out what they mean and walk away that you have the correct meaning of these parables which are really the most difficult things to understand in your Bible.
They are not meant to reveal truth. Parables were written to conceal truth. You need to know that. Or you are liable to be really confused because you are reading parables and not understanding what they mean and contradicting clear passages in the Bible. And that’s obviously called a method of error. Peter warns about exactly that type of interpreting of the Bible. Anyway, this is Bible and I’m Dr. Englund’s term. It’s great to be with you. I hope everyone listening is trusted.
Jesus Christ is our Savior. And we are excited about the fact that you’re able to hear us on Internet anywhere in the world and for those of you that are here going to start live broadcast right now we’re so glad you’ve tuned in we’re gonna go to Lee in Tampa and Lee welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air good morning how are you doing good that’s marinata thank you I’m at City Sunday school and this week the lesson is gonna be on Daniel and the three Hebrews and the lions then and the three The Hebrews weren’t in the lines then, Daniel was in the lines then, but Shadrach means Shacket Abendigo were in the burning fiery furnace.
Oh, okay. Okay. Well, anyway, this is before that anyway, when their, um, the units are feeding more than feeding my special diet and they, well, they refuse to keens food and Daniel asked them to feed them only pokes and water. What is pokes? Well, it’s believed it was lentil soup. Lentil soup? Yep. And it’s pretty healthy for you. and apparently they did well on it. The Bible says that they were fairer and brighter in their understanding than all the other wise men of Babylon because they were on that special diet.
Yeah, they, well, whatever God wants, that’s for you. Well, the real deal there was that Daniel and his friends did not want to eat meat at the king’s table that had been offered to false gods. So that’s why they refused it. It wasn’t for any other reason. They obviously believed in the God of the Bible and were faithful to the God of the Bible and said that we don’t want to bow to any other God. Later we see that in chapter 3 when Nebuchadnezzar made that image and they refused to bow to that false image that Nebuchadnezzar had erected.
By the way, that’s a picture of the image that the Antichrist will present in the tribulation period and people will be required to bow down to that image and worship the Antichrist. And true believers ought to say, no, I will not bow. And obviously they were cast into the burning fiery furnace as a result and it shows how God delivered them a picture of true believers being delivered from hell. When you trust in the living God, you’ll never go to hell.
You’re saved forever once you trust Christ. How are you? Amen. Also glad you called in Lee. Thank you very much and I was finally able to donate something to your ministry. Well, hello there. Praise God, God is good. Thank you so much and thanks for calling in. That was Lee in Tampa, Florida and thank you for being a faithful Bible and listeners and thank you for offering something to help us. This is the summer time and it’s a little bit more of a lean time as giving goes for I think all ministries in general.
If you could help us here over the summer, it would be great. You could call in like Lee did and give a gift over the phone by credit card. That would really help us out. Here’s the month of July. Would you help us this month? By the way, tomorrow is July 4th. I hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday and enjoy a safe time with your family and friends and others as you celebrate our nation’s birthday. Certainly we need to pray for our country.
living in the end times and look at how the Bible talks about how evil would just encompass the whole world and we are seeing it today. Satan, of course, behind that is trying to get a tight grip and control the whole earth and bring it under his control. As he is the counterfeit of Christ, you know, Jesus, when he returns will set up a kingdom where he Christ rules over the whole earth and Satan wants to imitate Christ and he wants to take control of this world.
I think Satan is making his move right now as we speak and we can see it everywhere. Just read the headlines every day. We’re going to go to Jeff in the land floor. He has an offer question. Your opinion of the new King James of the Bible would be appreciated. I’m disappointed Jeff. I’m disappointed. The new King James I was hoping would be simply taking of the King James and making it new, taking the archaic words and getting rid of these and the vowels which people seem to stumble over.
They didn’t do that, they went far beyond that. They actually changed many doctrines. We have a sheet that if you’ll call it, we’ll be glad to mail to you free of charge, call the new King James changes or missions. And one of the changes is, and it’s amazing, it’s not the only translation that does it, but in Matthew 7, 13, it says narrow is the way that leads unto life, broad is the way that leads to destruction. Well, it’s narrow because Christ is the only way to heaven.
There are not many ways to heaven, only one way, whereas broad is the way that leads to destruction or hell, and that means any religion you choose can take you to hell, will take you to hell. There’s no religion that can save you, you can only be saved by Christ. But you know the New King James says, not narrow is the way. They say, difficult is the way. Difficult is a totally different concept. The button plus works! So difficult is the way to heaven.
No, no, no, no, no, no. It’s not difficult. In fact, the Bible teaches it’s quite easy to be saved because God did all the hard part. Jesus paid for all of your sins 100%. And when you trust in the finished work of Christ, you become saved. Boy, that was the best news I ever heard. We have a caller from Fort Meade, Florida. We have grams on the line. Grams welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. You’re on the air.
Just pick up. Grimes? Yes. near. Your voice is a part of the try again please. I’m fuzzy huh? Well okay how about now? I can’t tell what you’re saying. We may not have a good connection. Why don’t we try this again? They’ll be back and we’ll try to get grams out of Fort Meade Florida. We’re coming up on break and we’re going to do a second half hour Bible and I hope you’ll stay tuned for that second half hour and we will do a second half hour.
If you haven’t trusted Christ. Let me encourage you to just say, Lord, I’m a sinner, but I trust Jesus right now as the one who died and shed his blood to save me. And I trust him right now as my Savior and God will save you. We’re going to do a second and a half hour. If your station doesn’t carry, go to the internet right now and you can catch the full program on BibleLineMinistries.org. Click on that spinning globe.
Here we go. Hold on to your radio and don’t go away. We’ll be right back after this short break to do a second and half hour. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. All right, I’m Dr. Englinscherman. It’s great to be with you today and thanks for tuning in on this Tuesday. Tomorrow will be July 4th and we hope that you’ll have a wonderful, safe 4th of July and enjoy the holiday.
Again, I’m Dr. Englinscherman. This is Bible and we’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida. From our studios right here in Tampa by the Tampa airport at the Calvary Community Church or on the pastor in the Tampa Bay area you can hear seven days a week in other areas some of the stations do play us on the weekend at different times you might find out from your station when you can hear by blind over the weekend if they play some extras I know in Nashville Tennessee they play us from one and to two in the morning So if you’re up in the middle of the night, we get calls from people that listen in the middle of the night up in the National Tennessee that hear Bibleline.
We also have other stations that place at different times of day extra, and that’s exciting. In the land floor, they play us every night at nine o’clock in addition to the time when we’re on the air right now in the land Florida. We praise the Lord for what God is doing through Bibleline, and we certainly praise the Lord for all of you listeners who pray for us and who give the Bible and to keep us on the air. You know we have no other means of support than you, the listener.
Without your help we could not be on the air. And that’s the truth. We don’t have any piggy bank, a reserve account, or any subscribers, or pledges, or anybody who just underwrites the program. We really, every day just trust God for what He sends in through our listeners to be able to be on the air. We’re lean because we don’t pay salaries. It really all goes into the ministry and to the equipment and phone bills and internet bills or whatever.
We have a satellite connection and a satellite fee to be up on the satellite every day. If you’d like to help us, you can call in and our operators will be glad to assist. You can give a gift by credit card with over the phone or ask for an envelope to be sent to you with our address on it and you’ll be able to help Bibleline. God bless you and thank you in advance. We’re about ready to do a second and a half hour. I hope you’re able to hear it on your station. If not, go to the internet and catch that full program. you have to do is again go to BibleLineMinistries.org, click on the spinning globe and click on today’s program and you’ve got it. Thanks again for tuning in to the program Today, this is Tuesday tomorrow be July 4th. I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July holiday and be safe and You’re welcome to listen to Bible and in any case we thank God for all of you who listen and thank God for all of you who pray for Bible and and Also those of you that give to Bible and keep us on the air We don’t have any other means of support than you, our listeners, and without your help, we really could not be on the air.
We don’t have any other means of support. This is certainly much bigger than I would be able to afford, or my church even couldn’t afford this ministry. We’re out there all over the place, and thanks to God, through people just like you who listen of the show that give your gift to Bible and enable us to be able to be on the air. We thank God for every one of you. You’re the heroes. You’re the ones who make it possible.
And we are every kind of kid around here. Lean in mean. We don’t pay any salaries. All the monies go into paying for the satellite time, the different special phone lines. We have digital lines and our other equipment costs. and then of course paying the stations that put us on the air. That’s expensive and that’s not cheap. So we go as far as we can with every dollar that comes in and that’s, thank you, thank you, thank you to those of you who make that possible.
You can send a gift if you’d like to by mail or you can give one by credit card over the phone. Just call our 800 number that we keep announcing and our operators will be glad to send you an envelope with our address on it or they can take your gift over the phone by credit card and we thank you in advance for your generous gifts to buy by no gift is too small. You can actually give online bookstores as well.
There’s a place there to donate and you can do that. By the way, our TV, our rather our worship services are up on the internet. You can watch the past services. If you go there, as it says, please stand by when you’re looking at that center picture.
That’s only, you’ll stand by now for another five or six days to be able to see the Sunday service. But if you want to You can see past services go over to the archive button click on that and you can see several months where the Sunday messages and I hope you’ll you’ll do that again God bless and thank you very much if you want to call in the phone number here is 1-800-576-3771-1-800-576-3771 we have Jim in Clearwater Florida he calls in and leaves this question off air he says What is your understanding of the doctrine of separation?
I’d like to have you, Jim, if you have your Bible open, to turn with me. Maybe all of you could turn in your Bibles right now. I’d like to listen carefully and I’ll see if I can hear the pages turning in your Bibles. Romans 1, here is the doctrine of separation. Paul says here, as he writes to the Romans, Paul a servant or actually the Greek word means slave, a slave, a bond slave of Jesus Christ called an apostle and here it is you might want to mark it in your Bible Jim separated, but what does he use as the guideline for separation separated under the gospel of God?
So it is the Gospel where we divide. In other words, this marvelous book of Romans, 16 chapters, defines what the Gospel is and what it is not. And notice Paul leaps immediately into what this Gospel message is. It says here, it’s the message that God promised the four by His prophets and the Holy Scriptures. You know, the Gospel was in the Old Testament, Jim. And the Bible tells us that from Genesis through Balakai Jesus is there and the message of salvation has always been by grace.
Nobody has ever been saved by works. And it says this message that the prophets had announced long before Christ ever came. Verse 3 is about Christ. It says concerning His Son, Jesus Christ the Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh. Christ was related back to King David, the lineage of Joseph and Mary. Take you back to King David and take you all the way back to Abraham. And it says in verse 4, declared to be the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by the resurrection of the dead.
Jesus Christ is obviously separate from all other would-be saviors or messiahs because He’s the only one that ever came back from the dead. That’s right, mohama is still dead, Confucius is still dead, Buddha is still dead and we could go on and on and on. They’re all dead men. You could visit their graves and you can cry out well how much you know it’ll say nothing he said well how they can’t help you you do the same with but our confuses and how are our their names and they would not reply to get crisis not in the grave i just came back from his role is my fifteen but forty time and i uh…
visited the team of price again and stepped inside and let me testify right now that that tomb is empty. Christ is gone. He’s risen. He’s not there. He’s alive forever more. Isn’t that wonderful news? It is certainly the best news you’ll ever hear. So this is where we divide. Believers from unbelievers. God really is the one who separates, but sometimes we don’t recognize that line of separation. The Bible tells us there’s only two groups in this world, those that believe in those that believe not.
John 3 18 says he to believe if on Christ is not condemned, he to believe if not is condemned already because he has not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God. So there are only two groups, those that believe in those that believe not, and God makes that line of separation. The believers go to heaven, the unbelievers go to hell, the believers are not condemned, The unbelievers are condemned already and so on and so on.
So that’s the line and the Bible tells us that’s where we need to draw the line as well and that’s where we separate. There’s a lot of isms and asms and spasms out there that claim that they are Christian and they are not. You need to know that I cannot accept a Jehovah’s Witness as my brother spiritually because they deny Christ, they say He’s Michael the Archangel and do not recognize that He’s God who took on flesh. So they are not Christians and they are not my brothers.
The seven to add to this by the way, teach that Jesus is Michael the Archangel. Did you know that? All you seven to add to this wake up, you’re in a false group. Obviously, you’re not going to make heaven and I cannot consider you my Christian brother because you haven’t trusted in the Jesus of the Bible, you claim he is Michael, the Archangel, and so on and so on and so on. And we can go through denominations as well.
The teacher plan a salvation by works and that is obviously opposite of the gospel. The gospel is the good news that Christ paid it all. So obviously we separate on those issues. the major issue of separation and of course we can separate on other issues. We know that first Corinthians 5 tells us as Christians to separate ourselves from Christians that are not living the Christian life, that are doing things that are absolutely forbidden in the Scripture. We are to withdraw ourselves.
Well we are going to go now to Alfred in Tampa, Florida and Alfred welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes, sir. Hey, I was wondering, what’s your interpretation of the script? Is that one among you at a thick letter call for the elders of the church? They will lay hands on them and they shall recover? Right. That’s in James chapter 5 and it’s talking there about somebody who’s sick because of their sin. They sin against the church, the body of Christ, the believers and in order to be healed, they have to call for the elders of the church and basically confess that they, whatever they did, to He said, they are remorseless for that, and then asked the leaders to pray for the restoration, and says, then they’ll be healed.
This is not talking about somebody who just has cerebral palsy or polio or some other disease. This is talking about somebody who’s in trouble with God because they have sinned against the rest of the believers, and they’re made sick as a result of it. So this is a chasing, that the only remedy for the only healing can come is if they restore themselves to the fellowship by confessing the things that they have done wrong. And that’s where confession is mentioned, or confess your false one to another.
That doesn’t mean that in our regular Christian activities that we are going around and share all the things that we do wrong but when you have sinned against the body of believers God will bring judgment upon you and you’ll be chasing then in this cadence made sick and the only remedy is to get that resolved with those that you’ve sinned against. Okay now what about the Corinthians it talks about the different gifts and the work of the miracles and and the different gifts that he gave to the body so I mean does that exclude us?
I mean you know that’s true We have a wonderful book here and you might want to get it. It’s called 19 gifts of the Spirit, but many of those gifts have ceased. For example, there are no more apostles today. That was one of the 19 gifts that God gave. If you read Ephesians 4, it talks about the different gifts that God gave to the church, and he gave apostles. I believe they’ve all ceased. The twelve apostles are gone. It also says he gave prophets, and that was at the early church prior to the New Testament being written.
But in 1 Corinthians 13, 8 through 10 it says the gift of prophecy has been removed, so you don’t have prophets today. So if you’re in a church where they claim that they have prophets or your pastor calls himself a prophet, I would run because that’s bad doctrine. We don’t have prophets today. And I believe that the other spectacular gifts have ceased. In Mark chapter 16 you read about being able to drink any deadly drink and not be hurt.
That isn’t around today. If you drink an arsenic cocktail I would expect to be doing your funeral because you’re going to die. But in that time you could drink a deadly drink and survive. You could also be bitten by deadly snake and not be hurt. And that gift is seized today. I don’t recommend you go out and hang out with snakes and with deadly snakes especially. You’re probably going to die. So there are some gifts that are gone. They were temporary in nature.
And I believe the gift of healing and the gift of tongues, the gift of prophecy, the gift of knowledge, the gift of apostleship, the gift of prophecy, all those are gone. And you just have to do a careful study. This book we have in our Resource Center here, 19 Gifts of the Spirit does a wonderful job of explaining all of that. Okay, can I say something? Well, I’m about to make it different on that because I just hate it because my wife, she had a back problem for a long, long time because of the accident and a prophet came to our church and laid hands on her and after that he laid hands on her.
She had no more back problems at all. I mean God moved in that service. I mean if he was speaking in tongues and he was very gifted and we were speaking in tongues and the power God fell so strong and when the prophet had touched her, she was immediately that the pain had left her. So I just have to dig a difference with that. I understand. By the way, there are many groups that have a false message that have healings.
The Christian scientists teach healings and other groups, in fact even say, Tani groups, but let me just give you this warning. In Deuteronomy 13 it says, If a preacher comes along and promises you a sign or a wonder, a miracle, as in this case you’re talking about that, and his message doesn’t agree with the word of God, it says you should not harken under the words of that prophet. You’re supposed to, it says here in verse 4 of Deuteronomy 13, walk after the Lord your God and fear Him and keep His commandments and obey His voice.
So basically miracles can be done by false preachers. In fact, Matthew 2424, Jesus said in the last days that it would be false preachers doing the miracles. Isn’t that amazing? That’s right. Jesus was asked, what would be the sign of your coming? Christ said there will be false preachers who will arrive, Matthew 2424, and they shall show great signs and wonders or miracles, in so much it were possible they would deceive the very believers. So this is what is happening today.
So the fact that a miracle takes place doesn’t mean it’s from God. And so I would be very, very careful, Alfred, that you check out the message that you have embraced. Let me basically tell you a real tip-off. If you believe you can lose your salvation, then you have bought into the false message, and you’re going to proclaim it till you die because you had a miracle. And the Bible warns about miracles being used for the purpose of deception and locking you in on bad doctrine.
And that’s happening all around us today. This miracle thing began at Azusa Street out in California in 1906, and now we’ve been into 101 years of this movement that’s just risen in the last days, which I believe is a counterfeit movement and is false, But yet they can in some cases do miracles, but it’s not from God because Deuteronomy says if their words don’t agree with the Bible then you have to reject it Isaiah 814 But Isaiah 8 20 says if they speak not according to this word It is because there is no light in them.
We have Ken in Clearwater Florida Ken welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air Okay, good morning Hank. Good morning. Love your program very educational. I listen to you beautiful. In regards to signs of time, I’m going to ask you a question and then I’m going to hang up and listen to you. But can you give me some chapters as far as signs of times in regards to, it just seems like everywhere you turn these days, people are turning on you, lying about you, deceiving you, people seem to be your friends and they are not and associates.
associates pretend to be friends, roles and values. This is a change in turn for reasons that are not ethically and morally correct. It just anger inside the when you When you try to do the right things or you do the right things and then other people do such wrong things and you’re trying to, so many people around you, fight the wrong thing and get in credit for it. You know what I mean? Let me give you one great passage.
That is in 2 Timothy chapter 3. If you read that chapter it lists about 20 of the things that you would see in the last days and signs of the last days and everything you just mentioned is right in that list. So I would read 2 Timothy chapter 3. I hope that helps Ken and thank you again for that call. We now have Carl in Riverview floor. Carl, welcome to Bibleline your own ear. uh… yes i want to make a comment about the miracles uh…
matthew seven twenty one two twenty three is specifically addressing that and it’s talking about the people that thought they were paid because of the hill to take the cap of the devil he addressed that specific group and i never knew you because most people identify that as they’ve got to mean you say well you can’t i mean call your exactly right you know it says that you seven twenty two many will say in that day and that day is the great white throne judgment and they will say Lord Lord and they are people who profess to be Christians and they’ll say haven’t we preached in your name and healed in your name and done many wonderful works in your name and Christ that I never knew so they were never saved.
He said didn’t say I once knew you and I lost you. They were never saved and he says depart from me that worked in equity. So miracles done for the the purpose of deception are iniquity. There are those who can do miracles, but they are not of God. The only way you can find out is to test the spirits whether they are God or not. The way you do that is to take the Bible, which is the standard, and see if they are in line with the Bible.
It says in Isaiah 20 that I just quoted, if they speak not according to this word, that is the word of God. is because there is no light in them. No light. Carl, thanks for adding that to the program. Isn’t it somebody in the Bible that did a miracle and it was of the devil? Simon. Absolutely. Sure. Absolutely. Acts chapter 8. You have Simon the Sorcerer and he was a big miracle worker and when Philip came to town, Philip did greater miracles than he did and he wanted to buy the power to be able to do that.
And of course, he did ever come to faith in Christ. And Simon the Sorcerer, I think, is in hell now, or Hades. But yeah, there are numerous ones that can do miracles but are not saved. Thank you. Thank you Carl and glad you’re listening down there in Riverview, Florida. It says here, Ronaldo in Orlando calls in. Thank you for listening over there in the Orlando area. Ronaldo says if you don’t like the new King James, what do you recommend and why?
I think you just are kind of stuck with the King James as a as probably one of the better ones out there. It’s not without error or flaw, but I recommend the old Scofield reference spot. That’s either the 1909 or 1917 edition. We have them here in our Resource Center. The least expensive is a soft cover for $20, but the notes are incredible. And they clarify where the King James has mistranslated a word, for example, repent that we mentioned earlier in today’s program.
The footnote in the Scofield Bible points out almost 100 years ago now, 1909, that Repent is the translation of the Greek word metanoi and it means a change of mind. So this is not brand new information, but it’s been around and the Scofield does such a great job. I think you’ll find that you’ll be in good shape. So I recommend you get an old Scofield reference Bible you could call in and order it from us. We’ll ship it right over to you and I hope that’ll help.
We have here Robert from Sarasota calling in and Robert says, I heard you talk about salvation. How do I explain to our friends about Ezekiel 1824, 2 Peter 2, 20 in Hebrews, chapter 6? Some of the things I have answered on my internet Internet site if you go to BibleLineMinistries.org or .com. Look at Dr. Lindstrom’s articles. Use our search engine and you’ll find that discuss those things. One article is entitled Hebrews 6, 4 through 6 and we’ll explain that for you.
But let me turn… turn to the first one that you mentioned here in Ezekiel 1824 it says when the righteous turn away from his righteousness and committed the niquity and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth shall he not live and he’s talking about physical death. In other words the Lord might take you home to heaven if you the righteous there are the believers who have been given the righteousness of God by faith. The righteous man who then starts to live and do all the abominations at the wicked man.
The wicked is the unbeliever who is standing before God in his own righteousness. That might mean that you may not live. God might take you home to heaven early. 2 Peter 2.20 is talking about in the whole chapter, false teachers or false prophets. It says in verse 17, To whom is the Miss of the darkness forever, they’re headed for help, but it talks there about them being delivered from some immorality because of the teachings of Christ, but yet they never accept Christ’s Savior.
It says they turn from the Holy Commandment delivered unto them, which is to trust Christ, and they wind up going to help. But a lot of the cults who deny Christ have been delivered morally. Some of the cults that come knocking on your door, they smell good, but good, slick up good. Have a nice presentation and you say, wow, boy, I’d like my family to be like them. They seem to be so good. But yet the Bible tells us that they have the wrong message and they fool people that way.
But yet that doesn’t save them from going to hell. They have to trust Christ, which they turn from that commandment in 2 Peter 2, 20, to trust Jesus. In 1 John 3, 23, it says, this is God’s commandment that we believe on Christ, his son, unless you accept that commandment and believe on Christ, you will go to hell, and many of the cults are in that situation. Hebrew 6 is talking about a believer getting away from the Lord, and it’s impossible for you to be saved again.
You need to get serving the Lord if you have stopped serving, but you cannot fall from your salvation. You could fall from your steadfastness, from your confidence, but never from your salvation. Robert, I hope that helps a little bit. Call back if it doesn’t and we’ll go one by one. You gave me quite a list there. Mike, in Lithia, Florida calls in and Mike leaves us off our question. Do you consider yourself a Calvinist and the answer is no.
Yet because I believe that you’re eternally saved, most people would categorize me as a Calvinist, but I can’t believe in Calvinism because he teaches that you have no choice. Tom McArthur believes you have no choice whatsoever that God has before the foundations of the world chosen. Who will be saved and who will not? And you can’t do a thing about it. So if you’re not chosen, you’re going to hell and it’s too bad so sad there’s not a lot you can do about it.
The Bible teaches that you do have a choice. And when you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you’re saved. And I believe that’s the great position. So I reject really all five points of Calvinism as they are usually stated. I wish I had more time to go into that today. I have some CDs where I cover all that. You might want to call in and get one. I’ve got a run. Happy Fourth of July to all of you listening.

headline from Calvary Community Church of Tampa, Florida. Well, I’m Dr. Englund Stremen. It’s great to be with you. And we’ll be back again. Of course, tomorrow, I hope you’ll keep listening to my blind and go to the internet and take a look. Kathy, I just can’t resist this. And Chattanooga called and asked about the gift of knowledge being ceased. The gift of knowledge was to have perfect recall of the events of the life of Christ so that they could be shared until the New Testament record was complete.
She’s misunderstanding this to be new technology, medical knowledge, etc. I’m afraid the word perfect in 1 Corinthians 13 is not referring to the Second Company of Christ. The Greek doesn’t allow that. It’s all neuter in the Greek and the name of Christ is Christos in the Greek. It’s masculine. It cannot refer to that. It has to be a neuter subject which is clearly the word of God which is called perfect many places prior to cringley that are being written in case we hope you have a great fourth of july and we hope that you’ll continue to tune into these programs you can go back and catch our television programs uh…
