If you have a question, you’re welcome to call in and we’ll try to take your question and answered for you. We have a wonderful group of people that listen up in the Pittsburgh area and we already have a caller waiting and I think I’m gonna go ahead and grab that call because She’ll wait a while if we don’t and so we’re gonna talk to Joni in the Pittsburgh area Pennsylvania welcome Joni to Bible and you’re on the air.
Yes Tony Tony. I’m sorry It’s not on my screen Joni. So I thought it was a female. I’m sorry about that I want to ask you about, I think it’s in John, and I did, it’s about a full reward. And what I was going to ask you, okay, unbelievable. Is their punishment is greater like a believer that it would be more greater? Well, yeah, believers can earn rewards and some will have more rewards than others, obviously. And so it depends upon what you do.
First Corinthians 3-8 says, Every man shall receive his own reward according to hisreport. So depending on what you do for the Lord will determine theCertain degree of reward you’ll have in heaven. Okay, that’s the same way with unbelievers, right? They will also receive a degree of punishment in hell based upon their work. So those that are more evil and have done horrendous deeds plus those who have rejected greater light will be worse off in hell. They’ll receive a greater degree of punishment.
And I was listening to your prior mister end of it. It was very interesting. The program is held based on Bible. Well, absolutely. If you’re trying to be saved by your works, you won’t be saved at all. It says in the Bible that the gospel is made void if you had any works. Galatians 2, 21 is a favor to mine. It says, I do not frustrate. The Greek word frustrate there means the fork to nullify, to cancel, to make void, to make of then effect.
It says the grace of God because if righteousness comes by works, then Christ died in vain. So Paul was saying, if you had any works, then you don’t want why trust christ. Okay, wonderful. Okay. Head. And then they can get into bad teaching then and later go astray. But once you’re saved, you’re saved forever. I’m not believe that. But I, when anybody doesn’t have it right is if they’re adding works to salvation, I have to assume they probably not saved it all because I would hate to assume otherwise and then let them go to hell without confronting them and telling them, look, you’re in trouble because if you’re trusting in your works, you’re probably not going to be saved.
But if they were already saved, they would still be saved. Okay, because, you know, a lot of folks, if you talked to them and I heard one guy talk, I said, well, how did he get saved? He said, I believe that safe and work. And I would say, well, I’ve counted names. Amen. You’re absolutely right. not faith and works for salvation. Now Christian life is all about works, but to be saved we simply trust Christ. Because I learned one time you were saying I had to get your video about inviting Christ into your heart.
But as many times I told folks that day I thought I’d say, you know, I started coming to your heart. And I was wrong and after him, when you said that day I said, Lord I trust you by faith. I said, man, think about how many people I own witness to and ask them, say, ask the Lord to invite you in your heart and you were saying, why will He come when He come in? Because the Bible said our hearts are desperate wicked.
Amen. And I learned so much from you, you know what I mean? I’ve been under a lot of bad pieces. You ever heard of a pastor named Bob George? Yes, I have. What do you think about his people? I haven’t heard very much. Somebody sent me a tape and I listened to it and what I heard was pretty good. Okay. Thank you. Hey, listen. Have a great one, Tony. And thank you for coming in. Okay. I’ll let you see.
That’s Tony in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And the manager of the station in Pittsburgh said that they get lots of calls about our program being the best program on the station. And well, I hope that’s true. We’re going to turn to Matthew chapter 11 if you have your Bible open and it says in verse 28, come unto me. These are the words of Christ. If you have a red letter addition to the Bible, you’ll find them in red and Jesus says, come unto me.
Salvation is in a person. It’s not in a denomination. It’s not in a set of rules. It’s not in a creed. It’s in Jesus himself. And so Jesus in the Bible numerous times uses the phrase, come unto me. He says later in John 14, 6, I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life. And no man cometh unto the Father but by me. So we find that unless you come unto Christ who is the only way to heaven, you will not be able to get to heaven.
Notice what it says in John 14, 6. I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life, and no man, no man, no man, comeeth unto the Father, no man, comeeth unto the Father, but by Me. So you have to come to Christ if you’re going to go to heaven, because He is the way to heaven, and to try to get to heaven any other way you will not make it. And this is so important to understand, and it’s so basic.
And what a simple presentation we have here in Matthew 11, 28. to me Jesus says and then notice the invitation is to everybody look at the word all coming to me all a l l there’s no one that cannot come there’s no one that cannot be saved there’s no one who cannot be forgiven I’ve talked to some people and say you don’t know what I’ve done I’ve I’ve He has done some terrible things in my life and I don’t believe God could ever forgive me.
Well guess what? He sure can. Jesus invites everybody. He doesn’t exclude anyone who would come to him for salvation. When you come unto Christ, God saves you. And it says, come unto me, all of you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. People are trying to work their way to heaven. Some of them are really working hard at it, and they don’t have to work. The Bible says they simply need to come. Come. Come.
And then the wonderful promise in John 6.37, Him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out. Are you connecting the dots here? Matthew 11.28, coming to me. I’ll give you rest. In John 637, him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out. He’ll never cast you out. He’ll never lose you. You’re saved forever. You cannot be lost once you become saved. Because Jesus is the one who keeps you saved. Look at John 639.
Jesus says in John 639, this is the Father’s will which had sent me, that of all which had given me I should lose none. One-O-N-E-None. Not one. Not one. So no one will ever be lost. Who has come to Christ? No one can be lost once you become saved. And once you trust Christ as Savior, you are saved forever. Isn’t that great news? It is wonderful news. And it’s the best news I ever heard. I was 18 when I heard it.
I had been raised in church. I was confirmed. You probably heard me tell about it. I was confirmed. I was baptized. I was homogenized, pasteurized, capsized, Simonized. I went through all the processes. I was raised in the church. My mom enrolled me. She tells me in the nursery as a as an infant. And so I was raised in church. But you know I never knew how to go to heaven. And I find that there are so many just like that.
I had a funeral service yesterday and amazing. An older group and yet we had people get saved. It’s so wonderful to see older folks get saved. Many of them have been in church all their lives. Many different churches sometimes been active and yet they don’t know how to go to heaven. They’ve never heard that explained. It’s absolutely amazing and I just thrill at the opportunity to be able to share the gospel, especially with older folks who have been raised around church all their life and still have not heard the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ.
This message of the death, the burial, the resurrection of Christ is the means by which we become saved. And it’s the only means by which we can become saved. And Paul says in Romans 1, 16, I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, which is the death-billed resurrection story where Christ died and paid for your sin debt in full by his death and shed blood. It says, I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it the gospel is the power, the power of God and the salvation to everyone that believe it.
So the means by which we’re saved is the gospel and when we believe that gospel according to Romans 1 16 we become saved. It is the power of God unto salvation. It’s the message of what Christ did for you and me at the cross. It’s not about what you do for God. I hear it all the time and I think I mentioned it yesterday. It just sticks in my mind because I was talking to a man who is near death And he says, I gave my life to Christ years ago.
And I said, well, that’s wonderful, but guess what? That doesn’t save you. It’s not you giving anything to Christ. It’s not you’re giving your life or giving your money or giving your time. None of those things will save you. It’s what God gave for you. John 3 16, for God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son. So God is the giver. He gave his son to die for you. Christ died and he paid your sin debt and full was buried and rose again from the dead.
When you trust in what Christ did for you at the cross and how he paid for your sin debt and full God saves you. Has nothing to do with what you’re going to do with God. I’ll never forget. I was talking no man. I said, where are you going to go when you die? Of course, he immediately came back with a statement. He says, I’m not ready to get right with God. I think he had some habits and things that were going on in his life that he didn’t want to give up.
I said, let me just ask you a question. Do you know what you have to do to become right with God? He fumbled around and didn’t really know. I said to be right with God, you have to be as righteous as God. Do you think you could ever become as righteous as God? He said, no. I said, well, you’re right. Buy your works. Buy my works. I could never become as righteous as God. guess what? God had Christ die for you and me and pay our sin debt in full so that His very righteousness could be credited to your account.
And you can’t go to heaven unless your is righteous as God. And to be right with God you have to be as righteous as God. And that occurs when you place your faith in Christ. Second Corinthians 5, 21, one of My favorite verse says that God made Christ to be sin for us. Christ who knew no sin that we might be made, that we might be made, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. That we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
Have you looked that up before? Second Corinthians 521. What a great verse that tells us what happened at the cross. Jesus was made to be sin. sins. My sins were laid on Christ and He paid for them. He was made to be sinless, one who is absolutely sinless, who is God in flesh, that we might be made, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. Every believer has a standing before God that is really such that you are seen by God as though you are as righteous as God.
The very righteousness of God is credited to the accountable labor, and God sees you as righteous. No wonder your eligible to enter heaven can be assured of going to heaven before you ever die. I’m Dr. Anglin Strom. I pray that everybody listening today is trusted Jesus as your Savior. If you haven’t, don’t waste another minute. Just tell the Lord, Lord, I’m the sinner. I don’t understand much about the Bible, but I trust right now Jesus Christ as the one who made the full payment for my sin was buried and rose again from the dead.
I trust him right now to save me. We’re going to go to the phone lines and I hope you’ll call us if you have a question. 1-800-576-3771. 1-800-576-3771. We’re going to go to Ron in Delan, Florida. Over on these because the Florida, the land, Florida, we welcome you Ron. You’re on the air. When I was pointing out him in the new rock translation, all his, all the contradictions, then when I showed him what he inserted verse that it was not an original manuscript with.
That comes really from two manuscripts that are in the custodial care of the Roman Catholic Church and I don’t trust them that are older but these verses are missing. So they assume that they were, since the other manuscripts we have are a little bit more recent. We’re not talking about the time here, but we’re talking about in the 4th century is when we date back the Vaticanus and the Sinaiticus. Actually, the manuscript called the Sinaiticus was actually found in the trash room of the St.
Catherine’s monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai. been there, I’ve walked through St. Catharines and I’ve climbed to the top of Mount Sinai twice and it’s a spectacular event. But I believe it’s not reliable. It’s not a reliable manuscript. They threw it in the trash room because they were obviously things that they accidentally omitted and did not copy in. And I think this is why our problem is the 44 emissions are based on the fact of these old manuscripts.
Which by the way, nobody’s never really seen the originals the Rome Catholic churches produced copies and send them out but we can’t say that anybody’s ever verified that the copies are just like the original manuscripts that are in their custodial care so I don’t believe that and I think that those verses do belong in there and should not be omitted okay It balances out when you look at it and change things because you see proof of it in other places, right?
Oh, of course. There’s so many verses that support the Trinity that you don’t need for John 5-7, but it’s Satan’s attempt to try to attack the Godhead, to attack the deity of Christ, to attack salvation by faith, to attack all the major doctrines of the Bible. They’re all under assault today, especially as we near the return of Christ, because Satan is going to do all he can. He’s going to be scrapping and fighting. with everything at his disposal to try to put down the truth and we’re seeing it happen.
Okay, and I agree with that because although mid- and birth of art, usually in the technical and left, and all these are usually in the eternal crisis, never like down the deity of Christ. Absolutely, absolutely. And I’m a… you keep going. I agree, I agree. Okay, Ron, I’m so glad you called me today and I’m glad you’re listening over there in and Florida and thank you for your call. We now have Trina and Trina is in Largo, Florida and Trina, welcome to Bibleline you’re on there.
Good morning, Dr. Lindstrom. I really enjoy listening to you. My question today is suicide. People will commit suicide. Is there anything in the Bible relating to that? Well, guess what? Suicide is not the unpardonable sin and if a believer did commit suicide, they would still go to heaven. Although God doesn’t want you to take your life, again, go back to the verses that we quoted earlier, John 637, Jesus said, Him that cometh to me, I will have no wise cast out except He commits suicide.
No, I added that last part. It says Him that cometh to me, I will have no wise cast out. That means there is no reason or no circumstance that could ever cause you to be lost once you become saved. This whole The whole thing about suicide being an unpardonable sin would cause you to go to hell, has come out of Roman Catholicism. They made the mistake of assuming that because Judas went to hell and the last act that he committed before he went to hell was suicide.
They assumed that it was the unpardonable sin. They made a big mistake. John 664 tells us why Judas went to hell. He was never a believer. He never trusted Christ. John 664 says Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not and who should betray him. And it talks about Judas. Judas was never a believer in Jesus knew that. And Jesus knew that Judas would betray him. And so Judas did not go to hell because he betrayed Christ.
He did not go to hell because he committed suicide. Judas went to hell because he never trusted Christ. And that’s the only unpardonable sin. Okay, but there’s nothing in the Bible that says anything about suicide No, not at all really and you know basically Saul King Saul committed suicide if you read the end of second first Samuel he Was wounded and he fell on his own sword and took his own life and we know from first Samuel chapter 28 that the Prophet Samuel said that you’re gonna die tomorrow and He said, you’re going to be with me.
So we know the Prophet Samuel was saved. So if Samuel said that Saul was going to join him upon his death the next day, obviously Saul was also saved. So here’s a man to commit suicide and he went to heaven. Okay. I was in a discussion with some friends that he’s really depressed and he’s always talking suicide and I’m trying to find something in the Bible for that. So I should quote him, Samuel. Well, I don’t want to encourage your friend to commit suicide.
But if he’s a true believer and you meant it, that’s what you really need to focus on. It says he know Christ, does he have the assurance that if he were to die he would go to heaven because you need to make sure about that because boy it would be a tragedy if he died and didn’t know Christ because he won’t go to heaven. Well I know he believes but I’m not sure if he’s been a true believer. You know what I’m saying?
He’s just a mess. He’s an alcoholic in a bad way and he’s been doing this for years. He talked him on the phone and he’s like he’s crying out. You know, he needs so much help and I just don’t know how to help me myself I can’t do it just take a couple of verses and go real slow John 3 16 John 6 37 John 6 39 first gone 5 13 somebody’s verses and and just go real slowly Okay, all right.
Thank you so much. You’re welcome and Miami. Thank you for tuning in today We love our Miami listeners and I we hope you listen every day and again pray for Bible that we could get the full hour down there and of course we could use your your help. If you want to give the by one that would be really appreciated. We are now going to pretty much wind up this half hour and do a second half hour. But let me answer this offer question from Petima in Fort Lauderdale area plantation Florida.
She says, Can believers pray at home in tongues? Well, first of all, nobody today speaking in tongues. That’s a question that comes up a lot. But the biblical gift of tongues was to speak in a known foreign language without any training. And if that’s what you mean, there’s nobody doing that. Now, the gibberish that people are doing is certainly not from God. So if they want to do that, they can do it in their home, but it’s not from God and it’s not a secret prayer language.
It is a total counterfeit. People in the Mormons do the gibberish. The people in Islam do it. It’s in every religion around the world. A medium in the Sikhetic science breaks into this gibberish. That’s the common denominator. That’s not from God. But the real gift, which was a temporary gift that is ceased and is not going to be re-instituted is the gift of a known specific language dialect so that people could be witnessed to and led to Christ. Thank you for that question down there for team in plantation portal.
We’re going to have to go to break here and we’ll come back and do a second and a half hour. I hope everybody listening is trusted, Jesus is Savior and again we’re listeners supported if you want to help by blind. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lindstrom a question? You can. Just pickdress up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Alright, we’re back from that break and this is Bibleline and I’m Dr. Englundstrom and we’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios right here at the Calvary Community Church. Church and we really look forward to being with you. We’re excited about the many different things that are happening and as we’ve said we have our worship services on our website.
You can watch them and one of the thrills was and what a creative idea. We had a person that was having a family reunion up in Kentucky, up in the mountains and they were in this big lodge and they got everybody to be invited to come and watch our program. They had a projector that projected the website audio and video up on a big screen and they said 15 came out of the people that came to the family reunion and he said one of them even raised his hand, the invitation, although I couldn’t see his hand as we go up on the satellite and cast our webcast, our worship service all over the world.
But what not wonderful to see somebody get saved, and maybe more than that. But I mean, one visibly raised his hand, had the invitation as they listened to the Sunday message. You could catch our Sunday messages wherever you might be on the planet Earth, and your friends and relatives and missionaries and sons and daughters and those in the military can catch it anywhere in the world. Would you pass that word along? Just go to BibleLineMinistries.org, click on the camera and you’ll get our worship services 24-7.
If you go there Sunday morning in 11, you can actually catch the service live. That’s exciting. Also thinking about going back to Israel in February of next year, a five day option to Egypt and Jordan and a lot on the Red Sea that would leave on the 18th and then leaving the 23rd for those who just want to do 10 days in Israel, you would meet up with me and we would spend the last 10 days touring Israel. So you have an option of going a full 15 days or just 10 days in Israel.
Call, get your name on our list and we’ll send your brochure and you can make your mind up and got plenty of time to plan now. If the Lord hasn’t raptured us out, we’re gonna go. I’d love to have you be with me there. We have a lot of people wanting to call in so we’re going to go ahead and go into the phone lines now. We have Juanita and she’s in Lansing, Michigan and Juanita welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air.
Sure I can, I’m happy to do that. You know, tongues according to 1 Corinthians 3, excuse me, 1 Corinthians 13 verses 8 through 10 tells us of three gifts there that would cease, it would be temporary in nature. And one was the gift of prophecy, one was the gift of knowledge, and the other is the gift of tongues. And it says tongues would cease. The Greek word means the utterly halt or come to a complete stop. And it tells us when that would happen.
That would be when the New Testament record was completed. And that was around 80-96 when the book of Revelation was written, and that finished out the New Testament and by that time tongues were gone. But actually it began to cease even before that. If you read the Scriptures, in 1 Corinthians you have the list of the gifts in chapter 12, 13, 14 and tongues was present at that time. But if you read the book of Ephesians written later in the listing of the gifts in Ephesians chapter 4, it’s gone from the list.
And then when you read the book of Romans in chapter 12, where it lists the gifts written even later in the first century. Tongues is gone from the list, so it was already gone before the end of the first century and when the New Testament record was written then it was totally gone. So with a temporary gift it was used for evangelism. It’s not a gibberish. If you read 1 Corinthians 14.9 it says, except you speak by the tongue words easy to be understood, easy to be understood.
How shall it know what you’re speaking, you’re just speaking into the air? That’s what the gibberish people are doing, they’re just blowing a lot of air around and they’re not really accomplishing anything. Paul said the real gift was a known language to communicate the gospel to the lost and he says unless you’re Speaking In the language of the hearer and words easily understood, you’re just speaking into the air. You’re just wasting your breath. And verse 22 says, tons are for a sign not to the people that believe, but to those that believe not.
So as to be used around unbelievers to win them to Christ. And that’s not happening today with the modern movement. I wish that it were if the real gift were around, but the gift ceased. It’s not going to be resurrected either. The gift of tongues is over and the modern counterfeit is really deceiving a lot of people. Juanita, I hope that helps a little bit. And I think Juanita has, are you still there? I have some questions. Okay, go ahead.
What about first search? What about verse 13 in Corinthians 14, 13? It says, wherefore let him that speak us in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. Well, you’ll notice first of all the word unknown there is in italics, it’s not in the original manuscript. manuscripts. The italicized words are added by the translators. What it’s saying there is if you, and this is when the real gift was still existent, let’s say that you prayed or you sang in Russian but nobody in your audience understood Russian.
Then it says it ought to be interpreted. Please notice it’s not talking about a gibberish or something, You know the modern movement, the person speaking doesn’t understand what they are saying, nor does the person listening. But the answer for you, Juanita, is in verse 16. It says here else when thou shall, for example, pray and bless with the Spirit, how shall he that occupyeth the room of the unlearned say amen, at thy giving of thanks when you pray over the food or whatever you do.
When you give thanks, it says here and here’s the answer, seeing he doesn’t understand what you’re saying. So unless you’re speaking words when you pray or when you sing or when you speak that can be understood by the here then it needs to be interpreted. So that’s what’s not happening today either. The gibberish can’t be interpreted. I know some churches claim they have people that interpret it but the interpretation doesn’t ever match up. In fact I have people tell me all the time that the interpretation seems to be the same for anybody who does any type of tongue veterans, they seem to have pretty much a standard interpretation of what it’s being said.
But that’s nonsense. That’s not the real gift. You’re right. That’s not that. Thank you very much. We differ. But I thank you for your time. Well, you’re very welcome and I hope you keep listening. You know, read those passages carefully all the way throughout. Paul is saying that you need to communicate. He goes, in reverse 18, Juanita, where he says, I’d rather speak five words that can be understood by somebody than 10,000 words in a language unknown to the here.
And guess what? I can say a lot with five words. You give me a microphone and give me an opportunity to speak and give me five words. That’s all. I can say, trust Christ and be saved. Trust Christ and be saved. I love that opportunity on national television or radio to be able to say, trust Christ and be saved. Five words that can be understood. Five words that can have great impact. Paul said I’d rather do that than speak 10,000 words in a language that nobody understands.
And Paul can speak in numerous languages. He said I can speak in tongues more than any of you guys. But he said I’d rather speak five words that you’d understand than 10,000 words that nobody understands. I’m afraid a lot of people are speaking the 10,000 words and wasting their time and wasting everybody else’s time because what they’re doing is not the gift from the Bible. Thank you so much for calling in Juanita and from Michigan. We have Dolores in Tampa, Florida, and Dolores, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air.
Yes, good afternoon. I’m sorry, good morning. How are you? Dr. Benstrom, I too, I guess I’m a follow-up of Juanita, because I too have just a little bit of clarification if you can for speaking in tongues, because I was under the impression that this was a gift of the Holy Spirit. And going back to 2 Corinthians 14, 18, where Paul says, I thank my God that I speak with tongues more than ye all. Does that necessarily indicate that he’s speaking in an unknown tongue, but that not that for us to understand before, for God to understand.
He’s talking about communicating with the loss that you should be using it with. In other words, what was happening here in Corinth? If you read that whole 14th chapter, the Corinthian believers were acting like little babies. And he goes on in the verses following verse 18 to tell them, don’t be like children. Be adults, be men in your understanding. What a child will do. And if you’ve had children, you know what I mean. A little child is going to come out and show off their toys.
I’ve had visitors or guests in my home and sure enough one of my kids would come out of the bedroom Bringing some kind of a toy that they dragged with a little string and it makes a lot of noise And they prayed around and they interrupt everything that’s going on because they want to show off their little toy Well the crindy believers were showing off the gift of tongues, but they were using a foreign language a real language But they were using it in the Greek church where they should have been speaking Greek they spoke in a language that was unknown to the hearer.
The word unknown is not in the original manuscript. Every time you see that word unknown in chapter 14, it’s in italics. That means the translators have added the word. And what they’re trying to do is help you and me understand from the Greek in which the New Testament was written that this was a language unknown to the hearer. It’s not unknown, it’s unknown to the hearer. And so So that’s why he says in verse 9, except he speaks by the tongue words easy to be understood.
In other words, you should be speaking Greek to the people of the Corinthian church, which was in Greece. I’ve been to Corinth many times, and they should have been speaking Greek. But when they were reaching the lost, he said you need to speak in the language that’s known to them, else they won’t know what you’re saying. So he’s telling them that they need to speak a known language and Paul was able to speak and apparently a number of foreign languages.
He was very educated. I think before God maybe gifted him with any of those languages. He probably already spoke several, but it was to be used for evangelism. And by the way, verse 34, if you enforce the rules that were given in this chapter, it says let your women keep silence in the churches. were not to speak one word in church in tongues. If that rule were enforced today, the law was the modern day movement would die. Most of the people doing this are women.
And if they were to be forced to not be able to say a word in church in tongues, it would end the movement. I really believe it would be over. But it’s a gibberish. It’s done by the Mormons. They’re not Christian. They do the same gibberish. They go to the same charismatic conferences and they do the same thing, but it’s not really the real gift. The real gift You should be able to speak French, German, Chinese, certain other foreign language without any training.
And it should, if they haven’t, be used to reach those people with the gospel and lead them to Christ. It’s not happening. Let me also, I’m just going to say this, sir, and then I’m going to go back to my radio, because I always enjoy your messages. I’ve gotten great understanding from listening to you, and I do support your ministry. Thank you. Down in where it’s 1 Corinthians 14, in the 23rd person, it says, therefore, you know, we’re saying that within the church, if everyone comes together in one place, and all of them are speaking with tongues, and we know that there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers like you said.
Is that more or less indicating that? What it’s saying there is that this was the misuse. In other words they were using it in church. They were more than one. They were showing off. They were acting like children. It says in verse 20, brethren be not children. They were acting like kids. And so here you had a bunch of people speaking in different real known foreign languages, but the people who come in that were unbelievers thought you’re crazy. They thought these people don’t, it’s just confusion.
So he said, if you insist on wanting to use your foreign language one at a time and then interpret it. And we have a, we just had a missionary from Japan and he came in and spoke some things in Japanese. But nobody in our church understood Japanese, but he He interpreted what he said, and it was kind of neat to hear how preaching the gospel would sound in Japanese. But in Japan, obviously that is very effective because he’s speaking the gospel in Japanese to people that understand Japanese, but he demonstrated what it’s like to speak Japanese to our church, but nobody understood it.
And of course, he therefore had to interpret it for us. And that’s really the proper thing. Today, nobody’s speaking in the real gift. I challenge people all the time. I said, look, if you have the real gift, let’s go use it with the loss. Get in my car. I’ll take you to the mall or someplace. I’ll get you a crowd. If I have to stand on my head and freak out, I’ll get a crowd. When they come, I’ll introduce you and you can go ahead and speak in your gibberish and let’s see what happens.
Well, I’ve had nobody yet and I even promised a steak dinner afterward. Nobody wants to go with me. They know what they do will not attract the lost person and certainly not win them to Christ. And they, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh Usually panic at the thought of using it in public with a crowd of lost people.
I’ve never had one yet I’ve done this for 30 years I’ve invited people to go and and let’s demonstrate it if you have the real gift I want to see the revival little take place. This will be thrilling for me I love to see souls get saved and let’s go and They all back off and they say oh They just panic they don’t want to go out in public with it. So the real gift is not being demonstrated today at all.
The real gift was to, and the real gift of course in Corinth was being misused in the church as immature Christians were showing off like a child would show off their toy and Paul says, look, grow up and use it correctly. Use it so that people can be one to Christ. If you insist on using it in church, interpret it so people know exactly what you said. And yes, I know you think people think more highly of you because you have this gift.
But actually, Tons was the least of all the gifts. If you read chapter 12, it was at the bottom of the totem pole. And it was not the most valuable gift or the most important gift, certainly at all. And of course, chapter 13 tells us love is above all these things. But the real gift is gone. It’s just not around. And what we have today, you know, there have been no tongues for 2,000 years. If you study history, just like the Bible said, tongues seized.
And all of a sudden, in 1906, at the Azizah Street incident, this modern movement began. And the San Francisco papers all chronicled the event as being a bunch of gibberish that nobody knew what they were saying. And that’s exactly what it is. And it right from the get-go. The second or press said this was gibberish and it was gibberish and they tried to make meaning out of this thing so they said it was a prayer language and they’ve gone off to deepen.
The Bible doesn’t support any type of secret prayer language to God. This is clearly a gift to evangelize and that’s what happened at Pentecost when people from 16 countries were present and 3000 got saved because they heard the gospel in the language which they were born and raised with. If you read Acts 2 8, it says, how is it that people said that we hear the gospel in the language that we were born and raised with in a Gentile country?
And they heard the gospel in a Gentile language. And that’s why evangelism took off at the beginning because God gave this wonderful gift to help evangelize the laws. It’s not happening. Today the modern movement is a counterfeit. Once again Dr. Langstrom, I thank you so much for your insight. I’m not going to give it up. I’m just going to read a little more. And as I am right at this moment, it’s been a pleasure. And I do hope that God continues to bless you.
And he keeps on giving us that word. Thank you, Dolores. And I appreciate your call. We have a wonderful book here in our resource center, too, called New Testament Teach You on Tongues by Merle Unger, a great author, author of the Unger’s Bible Dictionary, and a ton of other books, a great scholar. And he takes that passage in 1 Corinthians 13 and exegetes the Greek, and it’s a slam dunk. He shows that tongues is ceased and gone, and it’s over, and there’s nothing going on today that matches the biblical gift.
And you might wanna get that book, it’s very powerful. And you have to use the scriptures. I don’t mind if people wanna do the gibberish, but I just tell them, don’t try to tell me that it’s biblically supported or that it’s a Christian experience. The gibberish is done by all the world religions. I was on a flight from Tampa to Dallas, Texas, and I happened to be reading a National Geographic, and it was talking about this gibberish has all been done from Chile all the way up the Andes Mountains range right on up through Central America.
The gibberish is everywhere. And so the charismatic still have a grip on this thing. They’re only a small part of the gibberish movement which is worldwide. It has nothing to do with Christ or the Bible. And I know that’s very difficult for people to hear that have been practicing it to recognize that this is not really a biblical event. But you can’t prove differently from the Bible, that’s for sure. Thank you and we now have Monica from Tampa, Florida.
Monica, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the earth. Hi Monica. You have a question? You’re on the air. Monica, are you listening? Go ahead. You’re on the air. Okay. I’m calling because I was wondering, you know, brothering that teach documents, the Bible and stuff like that in that preach. Are they gonna be held accountable? Are they gonna be held accountable for the words that come out their mouth? Absolutely. Even if there’s false teaching and stuff like that? Yep. Okay, because the reason why I was calling is because you I’m about that suicide thing that you told that lady.
Yes. That I’m like that I disagree. with because life is a gift from God. You told her that people commit suicide or still go to heaven and disagree on that. Only if it trusted Christ. But suicide is not the unpardonable sin. There are examples in the Bible of people who committed suicide who went to heaven. Like Saul, we just mentioned that a moment ago. Saul took his life and Saul went to heaven. Read the last chapters of 1 Samuel and you’ll see that.
That just all sound right to me because I mean this is such a gift from God. I know and I’m saying nobody should take their life. Nobody should commit suicide. Certainly that would be wrong. But neither should anybody commit murder or rape. I mean these are all crimes that shouldn’t be committed by anybody. But yet they don’t send you to hell. Jesus died for every imaginable sin that can ever be committed. Remember the dying thief was a convicted criminal who deserved to go to the cross and die.
In fact, he even said we indeed justly deserve what we’re getting here. But yet he trusted Christ and Christ forgave him and Christ said today, now so be with the imperilized. And I’m not just saying that. I mean, just I’m just saying that just don’t sit right within my soul. You know, I suggest people really read their Bible. I agree. I don’t think that’s right. I know it’s not in my heart. Well, certainly. I agree with nobody should take their life.
I agree with nobody should take their life, but nobody will go to hell because they committed suicide. There’s only one sin that can cause you to be lost, and that’s unbelief. Let me just give you back to John 3.18, Monica, where it says, he that believeth on Jesus is not condemned. But he that believeth not is condemned already and the answer is why is because he hath not believed in the name it will be gotten son of God. John 3.36 the same way.
He that believeth on the son has everlasting life. He that believeth not the son shall not see life but the wrath of God abideth on him. So there’s only two groups, those that believe and those that don’t believe and those that believe on Christ have eternal life and are not condemned, but the ones who do not believe are condemned already and will not see life, but the wrath of God abide upon them. So you’ll only find in the Bible one unpardonable sin and it has nothing to do with our deeds, with our works, with our accomplishments.
It has to do with what Jesus did for us. If you trust Christ, you are saved. If you don’t, you are eternally lost. So thank you very, very much. And by the way, Samson also committed suicide in Old Testament and he was saved. Remember he was between the two pillars in the temple of Deagon and he pushed the pillars apart and he killed thousands that were in the stadium there that fell down with him, but he was crushed and he killed and he’s a hero and he was chapter 11.
He’s going to be in heaven. goodness that he committed suicide also so uh… just you have to go back and and and believe the bible because uh… that’s that’s the key we have a matthew in spring hill florida and uh… matthew uh… welcome to bible and uh… you’re on the air and just one common arm i’ve been using salam eighty nine thirty and it’s just real clear for anyone that’s not certain about you know about that particular doctor and it you know just make it clear that everyone is a child of God if they forsake God’s law and don’t walk in his judgment that he’ll punish him.
But salvation is based on God’s faithfulness, not ours, and he will not break his promises and in no wise cast us out. So thank you, Pastor. Have a good day. Amen. Thank you, Matthew. We’re at the end of the program. I pray everybody’s trusted Christ is Savior. Salvation is something that God does and that he saves us and keeps us safe. Well, I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom and it’s been great to be with you today. I hope you’ve enjoyed the program and we’ve stirred some people to think and I know Dolores said she’s going to keep studying her Bible and we’re hoping that the challenge is out there for you to revisit verses that you think you’re familiar with. And maybe you’ve misunderstood what they’re teaching and been misled because boy, we’re living in an age of deception today. The devil… devil is out there to deceive us left and right and we hope that you are carefully studying the Bible so that you’re not deceived.
I hope that you’ll pray for Bibleline and if you can help us financially that would be great. We are list or supported. And I want to thank you all of you that pray for and give the Bibleline. God bless you. You all are keeping us on the air. The amazing results that we’re having is really a blessing because of you. And we know that God is going to bless you for your giving to this program because I believe this is a program that’s accomplishing a lot in the lives of those that are listening.

You all are making it possible for us to be on the air because you pay the radio bill and we’re able to be out there on the air. God bless you. Thank you so much. We love all of you and we appreciate you.
We have such a good audience. And we are hoping to be able to reach as many people as we can until Jesus comes back. Would you join us and partner with us to accomplish that and pray for us every day? There’s a lot of people who committed to do that and We believe that the blessing is coming because the prayers of God’s people are being answered. Also, for those that are investing, we believe God is stretching your money far as we’re reaching people.
And what a thrilling story that was for this family reunion to be able to watch our worship service and people get saved over the internet. That’s exciting and we love it. We’re going to have to say goodbye, but we’ll be back tomorrow. I hope you’ll join me then until then keep looking up Jesus is coming. I’m Dr. Engman from saying goodbye for today.
