Salvation is not dependent upon what we have or have not done. Nor is it dependent upon what we will or will not do. It is dependent upon what Jesus Christ has done on the cross of Calvary.

Well, good morning and welcome to Bibleline. I’m great to be with you today. Thanks for tuning into the broadcast. We’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida, from our studios here at the Calvary Community Church, where I’m the pastor.
We’re right next to Tampa’s International Airport. We’d love to have you come by and say hi. Our resource centers open every day till 4.30 in the afternoon, eastern time. And we’d love to have you come on a worship day. So whenever you are in town, or if you live in driving distance, come on over and see us here at Bibleline. By the way, we’re located at 4811 George Road, which is one block west of the Tampa International Airport. So basically, if you get more than a block from the airport, you’re lost.
You need to hug the airport. On the west side is the perimeter road, which is Eisenhower Boulevard. It runs north and south, and the next road over to the west is George Road, and it runs north and south. And there we are at 4811 George Road. It’s always good to meet our listeners and we met a bunch yesterday that came by for our third Sunday dinner. That’s always a great Sunday to come by and next month it will be our Thanksgiving dinner.
And we hope maybe that you might be able to spend your Thanksgiving dinner with us. That will be the Sunday before Thanksgiving. And we’ll have a lot of wonderful food including turkey and apple pie and all the things that go along with a Thanksgiving dinner. We have classes tomorrow night and that’s the last two in this particular series and this series of course has been called meeting the challenge. And it’s been a great one. We’ve got two more hours to go.

And I think we’re going to put this one in archive so you can go back and listen to the Sunday message of this past Sunday. And of course you can always come by during the week. So those are some of the things. And by the way we’re leaving for Israel March 12th.
People are signing up. We need to get your reservation in and it requires a $100 deposit. And then of course 90 days out we need to have half of your money paid and 45 days out from the trip departure. We need the balance paid. But that will be leaving March 12th of Monday, coming back on March 23rd of Friday. I’d love to have you go with me. It will be trip number 14. We’ll be studying the Bible all day long.
And we’ll have a great time. The round trip is 2595 from the departure city, wherever that might be. For us down here in Tampa, it will be the Tampa International Airport. But if you live in Chicago or Los Angeles or some other city across America, then that will be your departure city. Want to welcome those folks in Nashville, Tennessee, today to our program as we are on today for the first time in Nashville. Welcome to Bibleline. Hopefully you’ll begin to listen regularly and enjoy this program as we bring the scriptures to you.
Let me just open the Bible for a few minutes and then we’ll take our callers today and you’re You’re welcome to call in on our 800 number, 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. We’re going to turn today to 1 Peter, chapter 2, and Peter tells us that Jesus Christ Himself is the cornerstone. You know, many have tried to say that Peter is the rock, and upon this rock I’ll build my church. this there is talking of himself, not Peter. And Peter, of course, substantiates that in his own epistles, as Peter says in verse 6 of chapter 2 of 1 Peter, wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, behold I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone.
He elect precious talking about Christ and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. You know the believer will never be ashamed or confounded and be cast into the eternal lake of fire. The believer will enter directly into the presence of the Lord upon their death. And how wonderful it is to know that we’re not going to stand before God in a confounded state, but will be found as God’s child being welcomed into heaven. Verse 7 of 1 Peter 2, chapter 2 says unto you, therefore, which believe he is precious.
Notice the term, believe. It seems to be an archaic term today. People aren’t using it, but what a wonderful term it is. And of course, the Greek word really best translated into English is the word trust. In order to be saved, you must believe or trust that Jesus Christ died for your sins, shed his blood as the full payment for your sin was buried and rose again from the dead. When you believe that gospel message concerning Christ, his death is barrel, his resurrection, the fact that Christ died and shed his blood as the means of your redemption God saves you.
And we find here it says unto you to believe he is precious. But unto them which be disobedient, and notice here, disobedience here is clearly unbelief. If you believe you are obedient and if you are an unbeliever, you are disobedient to the gospel. You see the gospel is believe on the word Jesus Christ and they shall not be saved. Christ owns words in John 647. He says, I say unto you, he the believer on me has everlasting life. To obey that you believe or trust on Christ is your only hope of reaching heaven.
to disobey means you reject that and do not believe on Christ and you are therefore eternally lost as a result. And here Peter tells us under you which, under you therefore which believe Christ is precious, but under them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same as made in the head of the corner, and a stone is stumbling and a rock of offense even to them which stumble at the word being disobedient. clear in the context, they stumble at the Word and they reject Christ and do not believe on Him, whereas those who believe on Him, they are not going to be confounded, they are going to be saved, they are going to enter heaven, they are going to enter eternity with the Lord, whereas those that are disobedient by rejecting the gospel message are lost.
Wherever you look, you will find that the Bible when it talks about the disobedient, I have this wrong for many years because generally the implication might be that you hear some preachers preach that these are people that are not living the Christian life. But the Bible is saying they have not obeyed the gospel. Let me share with you the 2nd Pecylonians chapter 1 where it tells us very plainly that Christ that is second coming comes back in flaming fire, taking vengeance on them that But no, not God, and then it says, and that obey not the gospel, the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now, how do you obey the gospel? You obey the gospel by trusting that Christ died for you. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. How do you disobey the gospel by rejecting Christ and not trusting Christ as your Savior? And near this verse says that Christ will come back in flaming fire, taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, verse 9, who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.
Well it’s clear here that this obedience is a rejection of the gospel that obedience is to believe or trust the gospel message and believe that Christ died for you. The Bible really is quite a remarkable book that people go wrong when they don’t define the terms or they use a difficult verse and they make it contradict a clear verse. The rule of hermeneutics is always interpret a difficult verse in the light of a clear one and you’ll always come out on top.
I’m Dr. Anklinstrum. This is Bibleline. We’re going to take your calls. It’s 1-800 is the number 1-800-576-3771. And we’re excited about being able to be with you again today. I want to welcome all those new listeners today in Nashville, Tennessee. We have a caller from up in New York State who… He says, what about those who have died in Christ who will be caught up first at the time of the Rapture Explain? If you die and are in heaven already, how do you go to heaven again?
I know there’s a little confusion there. What you’re talking about, I believe Robert is in 1 Thessalonians where it says the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Well, the answer is verse 14 of 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 says that if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, that’s the Gospel message. When you believe that message, we were just talking about that a moment ago, then you’re obedient to the Gospel and you’re saved.
And when you die, you’re absent from the body, present with the Lord, that 2 Corinthians 5 8, you need to write that down someplace. 2 Corinthians 5 8, absent from the body, present with the Lord. And then when Christ comes back at the Rapture, what will happen is He brings your soul with Him. And it tells us that in 1 Thessalonians 4, 14, that He will bring with Him those that are asleep in Jesus. Their bodies are sleeping, but their souls are consciously awake with the Lord in heaven and He brings them back with Him.
And then the new body rises up from the earth and is united with the soul that has already gone to heaven and now their soul and body reunited. And then we which are alive are going to be transformed into our new bodies on the way up. So basically you are in heaven at the moment you die as a believer, but you’ll come back with Christ to the upper atmosphere and your new body will rise up from the earth and meet your soul in the air and then we which are living and have not died will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air.
That great. Hopefully Robert, that answers your question and we’re so glad you’re listening up there in Bridgewater, New York. Robert, thanks for calling in today. We have a number of other offer questions and then we’d love to have your honor questions So you can dial us right now at 1-800-576-377-1, 1-800-576-377-1. Off the air, Bob in Nashville, Tennessee. And Bob, we’re glad that we’re on the air up there. I believe we’re airing at 1 o’clock in Nashville on the 50,000 watt station near WNBM, I believe that is what it is, and I’ll check those call letters and get it out correctly later.
But we hope that you’re watching, or rather listening up here in the National on the broadcast that begins today in National Tennessee. We have Bob in National calls in, he says, what is a reprobate mind, and does God give Christians over to a reprobate mind? Well, obviously in Romans chapter one, talks about the lost being given over to a repurvete mind where they reject knowledge. And I think sometimes Christians also can have the same thing happen to them. Peter tells us that we can actually get to the place where if we don’t grow as a Christian and we don’t stay in the Word, that we can get to the place where we even forgot that we were saved.
That’s right. Christian can even forget about how he had a salvation experience younger in his life. Peter gives a wonderful recipe for the Christian life. Once you become saved, he tells us we’re to add to our faith in Christ. And this has to do with the Christian life and growth. And he says in verse 5 of 1 Peter chapter 1, beside this, giving all diligence, add your faith virtue. That’s number one. And then to virtue knowledge and then to knowledge temperance and to temperance patience and to patience God with us.
And the godliness add brotherly kindness and to brotherly kindness add charity or agape love. And if these things be in you and abound they shall make you that you shall need to be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In other words, if you had these seven ingredients, you will not be barren or unfruitful. That talks about the Christian’s responsibility to bear fruit. That is to reproduce ourselves. And when we leave this planet, hopefully there will be others who…
We have led to Christ who will replace us and it talks about bearing children, but these are spiritual children. Every time you lead someone to Christ, that becomes your son or daughter in the Lord. And if they internally lead someone to Christ, they become your grandchildren in the Lord and so on down the line. And it says here, if you add these seven things, you will not be barren or unfruitful. You will obviously bear fruit. You’ll have people coming to know Christ is Savior.
Let me read what Peter says in 2nd Peter in verse 9, chapter 1. He that lack of these things, if he doesn’t have those seven ingredients that are the recipe for the Christian life, it says this Christian is blind, cannot see a far off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. So here he is obviously blind as a Christian and he has forgotten that he has been purged from his old sins. While interesting, the Bible talks about a Christian can get to the place where he forgets that he was even saved.
And here, of course, in 2 Corinthians 13, it talks about the potential of a Christian being given over to a repurvement minus a Christian can walk away from the Lord and not serve him. And yet they’re still saved. They’ll be chastened. Lot is a classic example of that in the Old Testament. Lot, the Bible describes in 2 Peter, is a righteous man. That means he had been given God’s righteousness, which comes by faith and not by works. But Lot’s life didn’t reflect that righteous position he had in Christ.
And so a lot when God destroyed Sodom lost all of his treasures which were earthly because he obviously wasn’t laying up treasures in heaven and he lost his home, his car, his boat, his bank account in the First National Bank of Sodom. He lost everything except the clothes he had on his back and his life wound up in tragedy. His wife was destroyed in destruction as she looked back to or went back maybe to get her purse. In any case, he dwelt in a little teeny city called Zoar and he wound up living in a cave there and his own daughter’s got him drunk and got pregnant by him and we find that the mollivites and the amorites are the descendants of that sexual relationship ancestral with his own daughters.
Wow, lots of life was not the life that you want to be mentored by. In fact, I don’t find many parents naming their kids a lot, do you? Hear a little lot. Come on, hear the lot. I don’t see any parents naming their child Judas or Lot. That’s obviously names you don’t want to obviously have those children live up to those standards. But Lot was a Christian, Lot was a believer, Lot went to heaven. But he lost all of his treasure because it was all earthly and his life was really a a disgrace and a shame and get the Bible records it so that we might learn from that that we not be like a lot.
Bob, thank you for that call in Nashville, Tennessee. All fear Peter in Tampa, Florida calls in and he says, does God use individuals to physically heal people? He does medical doctors. I’ve seen the doctor this past year and obviously I had gotten a staff infection earlier this year and they used some very powerful antibiotics and some surgery on an infection I got in my foot. They turned out to be staff and I’m pronounced well. I’m healed. And I thank God for these doctors.
But as far as the gift of healing, I believe that has ceased, although God can still heal today and does. In fact, my doctor said I did remarkably well and I’m attributing that to the prayers of all of you listeners and others that had prayed for me at that time. But thank God that we have doctors. And Luke, by the way, was a physician. Dr. Luke, who is the human writer of the book of Luke and also the book of Acts.
But I believe the gift of healing has ceased. I believe in divine healing, but I don’t believe in divine healers. If we still have them around, they should be able to raise the dead. I don’t see that happening. They should be able to replace missing flesh. That’s what you read about in the Bible. I don’t see anybody going on stage at a healing meeting with one leg and coming off of two or going on stage with four fingers and coming off of five.
That doesn’t happen yet. The biblical gift included all those kinds of things. Healing very, very difficult diseases. You read in the book of Acts of a man that was impotent from birth and thirty years he He had never walked once and all of a sudden he is able to walk. That doesn’t happen in the bottom day mealings. In fact, I have people in my church that have permanent injuries. He said, I’m going to these healing meetings, and they are so called slain in the spirit.
One lady fell this past year in a Benny Hinn meeting. Her arm was broken between her elbow and her shoulders. She fell back against the edge of the pew. She was screaming, buddy, murder. They told her to shut up, and they dragged her out of the meeting. They should have dragged her up to the front and said, Benny Hinn, you broke her arm. You need to heal it. They didn’t. Another fellow that’s in my church as of this hour has permanent back injuries.
They told him to just lay quiet on the floor. They had insurance. They don’t pay about all those meetings where people get hurt in these so-called healing meetings. I think it’s a sham and a fraud and the real gift of healing has ceased. Alright, we have Tom in Lutz, Florida, and he calls in and he says, what is the article in the Catholic Church that holds the wafer in it and what does it represent? The monstrance is this thing they put on top of a pole that has like a sunburst around it.
And I believe it represents as the round piece of bread that they use represents the sun god, the SU-N god, not the SO-N of God. And the monstrance is a picture of those sun’s rays beaming out from it. This of course comes from paganism. You can read about it in Jeremiah 44 where they’d make these round bread cakes as they He would worship Baal and Baal’s mother, Astroth, or in English we call her Easter. And that is absolutely forbidden.
And yet the Roman Catholic Church has introduced that and claim that that piece of bread actually is Christ. Mother Teresa said in her writings, isn’t amazing. She said, I can hold Jesus between two of my fingers. He’s talking about the belief in the Catholic Church that that piece of bread magically at a certain point in the Mass becomes the actual body of Christ. I don’t believe that. Nowhere in the Bible does it ever teach any such thing. So we’re going to go to the phone lines here, 1-800-57-63771.
We have Gail on the line from Chesterfield, Virginia. And Gail, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. I have a question. You were just talking about these healers. In Acts, I believe it’s chapter 19 or 20, they’re talking about the apron and a piece of cloth. I believe off of Paul and if people touched this, they would be healed. I believe that is true and I believe all of that now has ceased. These miraculous gifts have gone. The tongue is also, I don’t believe anybody today, speaks in a known foreign language without training.
The gibberish that’s being done is gone. But that was true and those things have now ceased. And of course the charlatans are trying to take advantage of that. I was with a fellow a couple of weeks ago and he gave me a letter from one of these healers and he said he had sent him an anointed percloth. Well, it was one of these little tolets you get in a restaurant. It was a little wrapper that you tear open and out comes a little moist piece of cloth.
And he said that if you just would sleep with that and then send it back with your gift of money or seed gift that you would become rich and all this kind of stuff. And I believe that that’s all nonsense. I did forget all that. It is nonsense. I agree with you and I just feel so bad for the people that fall for this stuff that they not mature enough in the lord i guess to see through that on the lower spot of the people and you know the devil is just a cop cat he wants to be dot and and uh…
you have to watch out for these people to their other devil and i really are right and i agree with a hundred percent usually the gospel messages flood as well they don’t really have a salvation is by grace it usually involves works and that you can lose it so you’re saved and lost and saved and lost and and that’s totally a counterfeit also on the message of salvation. So the whole thing is really off. But you know when the gift was really present, what was interesting here, like in the book of Acts, as you brought up the book of Acts, it says in chapter 5 that there was a multitude, it says of folks that came out of the cities, run about under Jerusalem, bringing sick folks and those who were vexed with unclean spirits, and they were healed.
My Bible says, everyone, if you go to these modern healings, I used to chase them as a young believer, And they have sections where thousands are roped off in the back and they never even get near the stage because they can’t heal them. If they really could heal people, why don’t they fly in their jet and visit the nearby hospitals and go room by room and four by four and just empty the mouth. Wouldn’t that be great? That’s right.
I was thinking about myself. Good point. I just appreciate your insight on this, Dr. Hank. Thank you so much. Thanks for calling in from Chesterfield, Virginia here on our Bible and program. We have Vidal and Tam Buhord on the line here. Vidal, welcome to Bibleline I work for a youth ministry program and I help to keep the safety and discipline with the children. However, we have some great teachers that teach the gospel very well, but they allow the children to be disrespectful and disobedient.
How can we deal with these teachers and letting them know how important it is? And I’ll just hang up and listen to your name. We’re just about doing the program. But obviously, discipline is a very, very important factor in any learning environment. If you have children that are not paying attention or distracted because the leadership is not keeping them under control, then obviously they’re not going to be listening. And the same thing is true in a worship service or in any type of meeting.
So obviously the Bible speaks about things being done decently and in order. First Corinthians 14 has some good rules. There in particular it’s written to correct the Corinthian Church because of the confusion that came by the misuse of the gift of tongues in that church. But it’s said there that only one should be speaking at a time and maybe no more than three different persons in total and that it should be done in order, in decency. And so that’s the secret.
We have to go to break now, but thank you again for listening today to Bibleline, and we’re going to be coming back after the short break to do part two. So don’t go away. Keep your radio field right where it is. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. It’s 1-800-576-3771. I’m Dr. Englinschner. We hope you’ll enjoy and listen as often as you want not only on the air but also when we come to you on the internet 24 hours a day you can go back and listen to past programs or listen to today’s show live on the Internet. We certainly appreciate all of our listeners. You’re the ones who pray for and give the Bible and allow us to be on the air because without your help we could not be able to bring these programs to you.
We don’t pay any salaries for people that work for Bible and they’re all volunteers including myself. No salaries are paid. We use all the monies to get this program out to as many people as we can. Maybe you’d like to help us out. We could sure use your help. A gift to Bible and would be very helpful. One lady told me she… He gave me a check for $31. She said, I’m giving you a dollar a day every month and I’ll give you a dollar a day for October and she gave a gift for $31 for the month of October.
Isn’t that great? If everybody would give a small gift, maybe even 50 cents a day. You’d greatly help Bibleline. If every listener helped out, we would have no problems at all. But we count on your gifts. If you can give a larger gift, that would really help. And we would appreciate that. There’s always things that we’re doing here as we try to reach out further. and generally they all wind up costing money. We’re going to do Bible on Part 2.
Stay tuned for Part 2. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lindstrom a question? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. You can call our operators and ask about that. You can also call and give a gift to ByBlind if you would like to help assure that we stay on the air in your area. It costs money and again we don’t pay any salaries here at Bibleline. I’m a volunteer and so is everyone else, but we use all of our funds to go right back out into the ministry to get the word out. We believe there’s an urgency that Christ is coming back.
We have a world that’s going a little bit crazy here with leaders who are wanting to develop nuclear bombs and are willing to use them on anybody to get their way and it’s Sad that we have it looks like irresponsible leaders of nations who would misuse this tremendous power of these weapons of mass destruction We’re living in a scary time and the Bible says of course that would be a sign of the return of Jesus Christ And we believe we’re certainly getting closer by the minute If you’d like to call in today to Bible and you can call at 1-800-576-3771 That’s 1-800-576-3771.
We’d also like to let you know that you can give a gift by credit card over the phone if you’d like to help Bibleline. We could use your gift at this time and we appreciate it. And thank you very much for tuning in today. And if you want to hear this program again, you can catch it, if you will, on the Internet, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. week. We’re now going to go to Madeline down in Bradenton, Florida and Madeline, welcome to Bibleline.
You’re in the area. Right, yes, they’re hanging. Morning to all of you. I have a question. If you’re seeking God, he’ll keep you alive until you find him in the Bible. And I remember you talking about that one day and I didn’t get the right where abouts it was. All right. Say that question one more time. I didn’t quite tell you. you’re seeking you’ll find God. Oh, yeah. Jeremiah 2913 says, and you shall seek me and find me when you shall search me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 2913. 2913. Thank you so much. You’re very welcome, Madeleine. Thank you for calling in. That was a great question. I love that verse where if a person is lost and they’re seeking God promises that he’ll get the message of the gospel to them, that is a promise. We have Cliff in Tampa, Forteclist welcome Bible and you’re on the air. Good morning. Good morning. How are you? Good. I’ve been safe long for once caterers lusters after the flesh and these people will not see the kingdom of God.
Well, it’s talking about unsafe people. If you read 1 Corinthians 6 9 says, Do Not Be Deceive, The Unrighteous Shall Not Inherit the Kingdom of God. Just that phrase alone tells us who we’re talking about. The Unrighteous are the Unbelievers. The Bible says in Romans 3, 12, there is an Unrighteous No, Not One. So the Unrighteous are those that are Unbelievers, but the Believer has God’s righteousness imputed to their account or charged to their account, and they are credit with God’s righteousness and they are called the righteousness in the Bible.
So God sees me as righteous because I have trusted in the substitutionary payment of Christ. 2 Corinthians 521 says that God made Christ to be sin for us Christ who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Then the verse goes on to list a lot of the sins that unbelievers commit and he tells us that any of these sins would be enough to send a lost person to hell he says don’t be deceived me to fornicators nor adulters nor doctors nor feminine nor abusers of themselves with mankind or thieves or cover just we’ve all been included in the group somewhere everybody i’m sure it’s listening has covered in something in their lifetime and it says these shall not inherit now inheritance is a gift and that only occurs when you become born again and you’re in the right family and because of
Christ’s death, he has willed to you everlasting life which is an inheritance. But verse 11 is the key verse that you need to look at. In 1 Corinthians 6 verse 11 says, and such were some of you, such were some of you, but you are washed. You are sanctified. You are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. So it’s true that the unrighteous will not go to heaven. Unbelievers will not go to heaven and those that are unbelievers because of the sins that they’ve committed will not be able to enter heaven But if you’ve trusted Christ then you’re in the category verse 11 and such were some of you But you are washed you are sanctified you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Most people don’t read far enough and they don’t get to verse 11.
Okay. Hope that helps Thank you. You’re welcome Jerry. That was Jerry in in Seminole, Temple, no, it was Cliff and Temple for, sorry about that. We have Jerry in Seminole who writes in a question or calls in a question, off air. It says, since Jewish people do not perform animal sacrifices, how do they obtain forgiveness or the atonement for their sins? And the answer is they don’t. There is no atonement apart from the blood. I think we covered it the other day on the radio.
God said the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes an atonement for your soul. Hebrews 922 says, without the shedding of blood, there is no remission for sin. Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission for sin. Sin can’t be remitted without the shedding of blood. And obviously Christ is that sacrifice which took away the sins of the world.
The hymn writer wrote, What Can Wash Me My Sin? The answer being nothing but the blood. Well Jerry goes on to say, don’t they, the Jewish people that is, do they not sacrifice because there’s no temple? That’s correct. And the people of the Old Testament made sacrifices even prior to the temple, that’s true. But there was always an appointed place. Abel brought his sacrifice in Genesis chapter 4 to the Lord. There must have been an appointed place for God said, here’s where I want you to bring your sacrifice.
Cain also brought his sacrifice to the right place, but he brought the wrong sacrifice. Cain of course was a picture of religion which can’t save. Abel was a picture of those who offered up a blood sacrifice, a picture of what Christ would do for us at the cross of Calvary. Jerry, I hope that helps Jerry calling in from Seminole, Florida. We answered the question from Tom from Luke, Florida, a moment ago, so I’m not going to go back there.
It says here Sheila in Tampa, Florida calls in, says here, please explain ransom, propitiation and reconciliation. These are all big words. But let me just tell you that if you have the Scofield Reference Bible, you will be so glad because it deals with doctrine and helps you with these difficult words that people uh… throw about in christianity that most people don’t realize what they really mean anyway but obviously a ransom is like in a kidnapping where the kidnappers demand a ransom there is a ransom that is given for you and for me to deliver us out of the hands of Satan who is in a sense the kidnapper.
And we are held captive by him. The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 2 20 and Jesus is the ransom. He died and shed his blood so that we might be delivered from the power of Satan and translated into the kingdom of God’s dear son. Propitiation is a fancy word, but it means a satisfying sacrifice. In 1 John 2 2 it says Christ is the propitiation. The satisfying sacrifice. for our sins. He goes on to say, not for our sins only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Reconciliation means that we who were by virtue of our sin nature and the fact that we are sinners, enemies of God have been reconciled to God and now are no longer enemies, but actually have been allowed to become members of his family by the new birth. This reconciliation occurs based upon Christ’s death. If you read Romans chapter 5, it’s used several times there and it says the reconciliation has been accomplished by the death of Christ. Sheila, thank you for that good question.
We have Fred and Tampa Forti calling in off air and he says, do you have to be perfectly sinless to take the Lord’s Supper? If that were the case, nobody would take the Lord’s Supper because there is nobody perfectly sinless or even sinless. I mean, the word perfectly doesn’t even need to be there. In 1 John 1 verse 8, John the Apostle says, if we believers say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
So in other words, if we say that we haven’t sinned, then we’re deceiving ourselves. I met a lady years ago and she said that she hadn’t sinned in eight years. I said, stand still. Don’t move. I’ll be right back. I ran and got my Bible, came back to her and I read her first John 1-8. I said, how do you explain this? It says, if we say that we have no sin as you just have done, you deceive yourself and the truth is not in you.
Well, she was a little bit speechless, but she tried to change the words and say, she didn’t really sin, but rather she’s really committed errors and it was not quite the same thing. She tried to wiggle, but the Bible is very clear that every believer sins even after they’re saved. We have a sin nature that will not escape until we’re in heaven. Alright, the phone number here at Bible on that. Love to have you called me is 1-800-576-3771, 1-800-576-3771.

I’d love to have you on board with me on trip number 14 as we go to Israel March 12th year 2007. We have Justin in Tampa, Florida. Justin, welcome to Bible and you’re on the air. Hey, good morning Hank. My question is really from two scriptures. The first is 1 John chapter 4 verse 1 where it talked about trying the spirits or testing the spirits, and then light up previous scholar about the Benny Hinn ministry and the slang in the spirit and looking at a lot of the kind of apostasy that’s going on in the church and being able to test and try the spirits and know right from wrong.
And I was wondering if you would elaborate on that verse and then just oppose that to 1 Corinthians chapter 4 verse 5. or it says we’re not to judge and I was wondering if you could kind of explain the difference between trying the spirits versus not judging as it says in 1st Corinthians 4-5 and kind of come up with maybe a practical middle ground for your listeners this morning. Thank you, Justin. Actually, the 1st Corinthians 4-5 is talking about the inner motives of a person, things is it you?
that you and I really are not capable of judging. I really can’t see into your mind. I can only hear what you say. And based upon what a person says, we can judge whether they’re a false teacher or not. In 1 John, it says, don’t believe every false prophet that comes along. Don’t be gullible. And it says, test what they’re saying against the Word of God. So if they speak something and you evaluate that in the line of God’s Word, you can judge and say that they’re wrong.
But 1 Corinthians 4 and 5 are talking about the hidden things of the heart. These are going to be manifested one day by God himself and then we’ll know what somebody was thinking at the time. But we can’t really know they’re thinking we can only know what they say. So that’s really the big difference there. And by the way, this experience of so-called being slain in the Spirit, the only time I see people in a sense slain by the Spirit are those that are unbelievers.
So maybe they’re telling us something in these meetings, when hundreds go down that they are not even saved. In John 18 when Christ was in the garden and they were coming with the soldiers, Judas was coming to betray Christ, when Jesus went out and approached the soldiers and said, who are you looking for? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth, Christ used the name of God I Am, the very name that God used when he appeared to Moses at the burning bush.
And it says, all these soldiers fell right down on their backside. They went backward down on the ground. Those men were unsaved. And so I believe that’s a classic example of being slain in the Spirit. Maybe we’re being told in all these meetings when people go down, these people don’t know the Lord. Because in the Bible, the ones that are slain in the Spirit are unbelievers, not believers, so I believe you’re probably looking at unbelievers being slain in the Spirit.
True believers don’t go down. And the Bible in fact tells us to stand and to stand fast and be unmovable. So if you’re movable and you fall down, that tells me something about you that you probably don’t want to hear. But I believe you can’t show me a bona fide example of believers, so-called saying in this spirit, it’s always in the Bible, unbelievers that go down, believers stand tall. Thank you very much, Justin. And we’re now going to go to Dale in St.
Petersburg and dale welcome the outline here you’re on the uh… i was looking a little bit earlier and talking you know being similar fellowship broke with that and we take the work proper i believe that dot said that he will chase and his bleeper and not only believer but the body which is in the local new testament church that he’s in because of the of the unbeliever what do you think about that I agree with you. 1 Corinthians 11 talks about the believer coming and examining himself before he takes of the Lord’s Supper.
I believe that includes a self-judgment where you go and claim the promise of 1 John 1, 9, which is to believers only. If we confess our sins as a believer, he, God, is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, those things which we name by name to him and confess, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So we can obviously get our sleep clean when we come before the Lord and confess our sins as a believer. But as far as salvation, we’re safe forever, but in our walk, sin breaks fellowship but not our relationship.
And absolutely you’re right on that. And the Lord will chase him the believer who doesn’t do that. Okay, because I’ve said, you know, I know you’re saying that talk about I know that believers never perfect. I mean, we’re we become mature in Jesus Christ, but we don’t. We don’t have a certain error. Amen. He changes these corrupt things. Whatever. A lot of churches don’t give the warning that they should when they do take the Lord’s supper about taking it unworthily, you know, and I think a lot of pastors are going to be held accountable for that.
You’re right. Every time I observe the Lord’s Supper here in our church, we always tell people that they need to take a moment of silence and examine themselves before the Lord and confess whatever sins they may have committed and claim the promise of 1st on 1 9 of cleansing of our sin and forgiveness of our sin in our walk. Thank you for calling in. That was a good point. And absolutely the delinquent Christian can expect God’s chastisement upon his life.
life. Off here, Ronald in Sarasota calls in and he leads this question. In 1st on 2-3, it reads, we know him if we keep his commandments. What are his commandments and where do we find them in Scripture? Well, I think their scatters are out of the New Testament. Christ tells us, obviously, that we are to read the Scriptures. That’s one of the commandments. and shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4-4, Luke 18-1, where to pray without ceasing and every believer ought to pray and pray continually throughout their Christian life. We’re to fellowship with other believers and gather with other believers and we know that every believer ought to be obedient to that. There’s something powerful about coming together with other believers and being lifted up and encouraged to do better, to live through Christ every day. And that’s why we come together, especially the first day of the week as believers, to do that.
Of course, if you’re going to a false church or where the doctrines are false, it’s not going to have the advantage that the Bible is talking about. You need to come together where people are centered around the Word of God. In the book of Acts in chapter 2, we read about the early Christians. They continued steadfastly in the Apostles doctrine, which is the Word of God. So they came together around the Bible and around the teachings and encouraged one another and they went out, fired up.
And we find that it says in Acts chapter 2 there that people were being added to the Lord daily. were getting saved every day by that early church because they came together first around God’s Word and that fellowship. I think fired them up to go out and bring the gospel to the lost. The phone we’re hearing by the line is 1-800-576-3771 and that’s 1-800-576-3771. We have Edgar in Petersburg, Virginia. He just calls in and asks, how you explain 2 Peter 2 verses 20 and 21.
This is talking about false teachers. The whole chapter is about false teachers. It says in verse 1, there were false prophets even among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you who will bring in damnable heresies, that is, teachings that will send you to hell, even denying the Lord that bought them and bring upon themselves swift destruction. As you read the context, it says in verse 17, these are wells without water, to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever.
Then if you take all the personal pronouns and you go on down for when they, verse 18, they allure. And so on verse 19, while they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption. Verse 20 says, if after they. So if you connect all the dots here, we’re clearly talking about false teachers who are unsaved and head of her hell. For when they have escaped the pollution of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled, they’re in and overcome.
The letter in is worse with them, them than at the beginning. It’s talking about, there are different cults I think of the Mormons in particular. They’ve escaped a lot of the pollution of the world. They live a pretty moral life. Yet they are unbelievers and they’re in a bad fix because they have rejected greater light and they’ll be getting a greater degree of punishment and hell. Verse 21 says, For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness that is that Christ is the way to heaven.
Then after they have known it to turn from the Holy Commandment delivered unto them. The 1st John 3, 23 says, this is his commandment that we believe on Jesus Christ, his son. So the commandment is to trust Christ. And unless you trust Christ, you will go to hell. And so obviously the verses here are called on unbelievers. And if they knew about Christ but yet rejected him, they were worse often had they never known it to begin with. Thank you Edgar.
Here’s 1-800-576-3771. 1-800-576-3771. Tom in Richmond, Virginia calls in and he says off the air. In Luke 638 it says, given it shall be given unto you, what exactly does this mean? Well I believe as you give to the Lord God will also give you back in the way of rewards in heaven and blessings here and now. But even as you give to others it will be to the degree that you give that others will give back to you. If you are stingy and you don’t give out any thing to anyone, nobody is probably going to want to help you back when you’re in need.
And so basically it’s a principle that if you give, it’ll be given to you. So if you help people in need and you’re kind and giving, they’ll give back to you. And if you give to the Lord and invest in eternity, God will also reward you and give back to you. Robert in St. Petersburg, Florida. Robert, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Robert? Yes. You’re on the air. Oh, yeah, I had a question. I was reading last name on Bible, Matthew 10 5 where Jesus said he told us the Bible not to go unto the Gentiles.
And I was wondering why he told them that. That was in the early part of the ministry of Christ when, if you notice there, the message that they were to bring was the message of the kingdom. That is the Gospel of the Kingdom, which is not being preached right now, but will be preached again after the Rapture during the tribulation period. And that is the good news that the Kingdom was about to be set up because Christ the King was here on the earth.
Had he been accepted, the Kingdom would have been established. But because they rejected him, then obviously he turned to the Gentiles and for this past 2000 years, we Gentiles have received the Gospel of the grace of God, which is the message by which we are saying. If you have not trusted Christ, you need to do that. Whisper that prayer now, God I am a sinner. I don’t understand much, but I believe Christ died for me and I trust him right now as my only hope of heaven and God will save you.
