Merry Christmas, it’s coming up fast and I hope you’re going to have a wonderful holiday with you and your family. We’re going to be here at Bibleline for you and we’ll have obviously a great holiday. This is a great time to evangelize.
This is a great time to tell the story of Jesus and I hope you will take advantage of the season because Jesus is the reason for the season and we need to tell people about Christ. A lot of people will celebrate the birth of Christ and yet they are not saved. A lot of people will celebrate the birthday of Christ and yet Christ will be left out and they will not have received the gift that God offers all year long, the Christmas gift, the gift of eternal life, the gift of Jesus himself.
So this is a great time to share it. I think people are more likely to say yes when you give them a track. Yes, when you invite them out to a worship service. Yes, when you want to tell them the story about Christ, they’re much more likely to listen at this time of year. We have a lot of tools in our Resource Center to help you. We’ve got some wonderful tracks that really work. A lot of people are putting them in their Christmas cards or in with their gifts.
When they just really work also we have the CD, how permanent is your salvation, a powerful, powerful witnessing tool that really works. And if a person listens to that CD we found there’s a great chance that they will actually trust the Lord. It is so clear, so plain that we see results every week in people getting saved through hearing that particular CD. available through our Resource Center, you can call our operators at 1-800-576-3771, and they would be glad to assist you.
And also, why the way, since we are coming up on Christmas, would you consider giving a special Christmas gift to Bibleline? We would love to be able to clear out all of our expenses for 2006, enter the New Year debt free and if you could help us this would be greatly appreciated. You know a lot of people make up a Christmas list, they put their nieces and nephews and their children, the grandchildren and aunts and uncles and moms and pops and but somehow Jesus doesn’t get on the list.
You know it’s interesting. Can you imagine going to a birthday party and giving gifts to everybody that’s at the party except for the one whose birthday it is? Did you know this is the birthday of Christ and it seems like Christ gets left out of his own birthday party. And so as we give like the wise men did. They gave all their gifts exclusively to Christ. And maybe we ought to make sure that Christ is added to the Christmas list.
And if you would consider Bibleline as a way of giving to Christ, this Christmas, would you consider giving a special Christmas gift to help Bibleline to end this year with everything taken care of? God bless you in advance. And thank you. We want to thank you in advance for your prayers and for your gifts to Bibleline. We’re leaving for Israel March 12th, it’s not too late but it’s getting closer to the deadline. You need to make up for your mind.
We’re leaving on March 12th of Monday, coming back March 23rd of Friday. 12 days in Israel will have a wonderful time and it will be trip number 14 for me. We’ll be retracing the steps of Christ. will be baptizing in the Jordan River. We’ll be having the Lord suffer right next to the Hill of Calvary. It’s like a year’s worth of Bible education in just two weeks as we’ll just retrace the biblical stories and teach the Bible all day long.
Right where it happened. I’d love to have you go with me and so you can call and get the information sent to you or you can also go on the internet, BibleLineMinistries.org. Click on Bibleline News and you’ll be able to download the entire itinerary and you’ll be able to pull down or print out the sign-up sheet. And as soon as you can get your decision made, make your deposit and get on board to go with this coming March 12, 2007.
We’re going to go to the Bible for a few minutes and then we’ll go to the phone lines. We already have people calling in. You’re welcome to call at 1-800-5-763-771. This coming Saturday is Hanukkah, December 16th, I believe it is, and it begins for the Jews at sundown on Friday night because they count their night first. So this Friday night the 15th begins the celebration of Hanukkah. Did you know that Hanukkah does not occur in the Old Testament? Did you know the only reference to Hanukkah in the Bible is in the New Testament?
That’s interesting isn’t it? And guess what? It’s all about Jesus. Happy Hanukkah! It’s all about Christ. And you know most Jewish people don’t know that. This is a wonderful opportunity to tell them that basically Hanukkah is about Christ. It’s really a Christian celebration because we’re celebrating Christ. In John 10 when Hanukkah is mentioned, Christ comes to the temple on Hanukkah. What is Hanukkah all about? Well, it’s not in the Old Testament because the Old Testament record was finished around 500 years before Christ.
The occasion of Hanukkah didn’t occur till 165 BC. A Greek Roman conqueror named Anticus Epiphanes conquered Jerusalem and desecrated the temple, offered a pig on the altar which outraged the Jewish community. There were a group of zealot priests living in a town called Modin, not too far away from Jerusalem called the Maccabees and they just really were very incensed about what had happened. They came and miraculously liberated Jerusalem and restarted the temple worship again. And when they lit the menorah, the seven-branched candlestick in the temple, they had only one one day’s oil and it stayed lighted for eight days and that’s what the eight days of Hanukkah is all about.
Well guess what? It was the The re-dedication of the temple is called the Feast of Dedication, it is called the Festival re- of Lights, it is called Hanukkah. In John chapter 10 in your Bible, it says in verse 22, it was at Jerusalem, that is where the temple was. feast of the dedication. Here we are in the debt of winter and Hanukkah is now approaching this coming Saturday, actually beginning with sundown on Friday night of this week of December 15th and 16th this coming weekend.
Jesus, it says in verse 23, walked in the temple. What? This was the dedication of the temple which was the house built for God. Jesus Christ is God. He is God and flesh the Messiah. He comes into the temple that had been built for Him. And guess what happens? Well, the Jewish crowd there The Bible is not the only one who has been gathered around him. According to verse 24, then came the Jews round about him and said to him, how long does thou make us to doubt if thou be the Christ?
Tell us plainly. And so the whole issue here, and I’m sure Christ did this on purpose. He came on the day that they celebrated the rededication of this temple that was built for him, and they asked him, are you the Messiah? Tell us plainly. And Jesus said in verse 25 of John 10, I have told you and you believed not. Well you know, this is an incredible chapter because it is Christ presenting Himself as the one for whom the house was built.
Earlier in Matthew Christ said there is one standing here in this place that is greater than the temple. Jesus Christ is obviously the one who is greater than the temple because He is the one for whom the temple was built. The house was simply a house for God, the temple in Jerusalem. And by the way, that temple was destroyed in 8070 and hasn’t existed now for 2,000 years. In the following verses, Christ tells us that for believers were held in His hand.
Safe, secure, can never be lost. Once you get saved by a friend, you’re stuck, you have to go to heaven whether you like it or not. The moment you trust Christ, you receive eternal life. And in John 1028 Christ says, you’ll never perish, which means you’ll never go to hell. You’ll never go to hell. You want to say that out loud it sounds and it makes you feel good. I’ll never go to hell. As a believer, you will never go to hell.
Christ said it in John 1028. In verse 29 Christ said, my Father also holds you tightly and securely in His hand. You can’t be lost. or no one or no thing can ever pluck you out of the hand of Christ or out of God the Father. Then Jesus says, I and my Father are one. What happens? It says then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. They wanted to kill him because they rejected his claims. Jesus said, Many good works have I showed you for my Father, for which of those good works do you stone me?
And here’s the Jewish reply. The Jews answered him and said, for good work we stoned thee not, but for blasphemy, because the thou being a man, make us thyself God. So what does Hanukkah all about? Hanukkah is the day when the Jewish people rejected Jesus the Messiah for whom the temple was built. Isn’t that amazing? So Hanukkah is all about Jesus and how the Jewish people rejected Jesus as being the Savior. They rejected his claims. They wanted to kill him.
They took up stones to stone him. They said, for a good work we stoned the knot, but for blasphemy, because that now being a man make us thyself God. Not incredible. So guess what? Shortly thereafter Christ said, because you reject me, I’m going to leave and your house will be destroyed. It was destroyed by the Romans in 8070, just like Jesus said that it would be, that But not even one stone would be left standing upon another. And sure enough the Romans, when they conquered Jerusalem in 8070, pushed all the stones of the ancient temple off of the side of the temple mount platform and some of them lie exactly as they fell 2,000 years ago in 8070.
And so guess what? You know Hanukkah doesn’t make much sense anymore because what the Jews are doing is celebrating The rededication of the temple which occurred in BC 165 for a temple that hasn’t existed for 2000 years, what an empty observance. They missed Jesus who is God, for whom that temple was waiting, and they kicked him out of the house that had been prepared for him. Jesus Christ is God. He came to his house. yet rejected him. And so Hanukkah is about the rejection of Jesus Christ.
What an opportunity we have here to witness. If you just tell a Jewish person, did you know that the only time Hanukkah is mentioned in the Bible is mentioned in John’s Gospel, chapter 10. If you just could get them to read that one chapter, what would they learn? In John 10, 9, Christ says, I am the door by me. If any man enters, then he shall be saved. And in further down he says he is the Messiah, that he is God and one with the Father.
He says that he gives eternal life and those who trust him will never perish, but they are safe and secure, held by the hand of Jesus himself. Great, great news isn’t it? So let me say to all of us. Happy Hanukkah! It’s all about Christ. And for us who have believed on him, we recognize that he did come to the house built for him. And he was rejected by most, but all those who receive him and believe on him receive the gift of everlasting life.
I’m Dr. Englund from this is Bibleline. Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to you. We’re going to take our phone callers now. We have callers from all over dialing in and lots of all fair questions So we’ll see how we can do here in getting them all answered. We have Doug in Pensacola, Florida. Doug, welcome to Bibleline. You are on the air. Yeah, Brother Lindstrom. I called a while back and I said I was on WBTJ. That’s where you were originally here.
Now I’m BNY 1090. We had a caller Friday on Oneness, the Oneness Doctrine. Yeah. And I since did some looking up on that. They denied the Trinity. Yeah, well, I call it the Jesus-only heresy. And when you meet people, they insist on telling you that they’re Jesus-only. Now, a couple of things that I found that will go along with what you said, I noticed that they pray in the name of Jesus. And in the NIV, of course, when you get to the Lord’s prayer or the art-father, and it says, after this manner, they leave after this manner out, and our Father, which art in heaven, is we which art out, and they even go so far as to leave a beautiful part out that was quoted from 29 for the name of the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
They leave out the amen. They baptized according to Acts chapter 8, 16, what’s the, use of the word Holy Ghost four times. For as yet he was falling upon, none of them, only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. So you pray in the name of the Lord Jesus and your baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, which is Matthew 3, 16, where the Trinity shows up. Quick thing, I’ve even heard them go so far, brother, as to mock Jesus and say to God fall asleep in the boat.
Now that’s pretty nasty. What do you think, brother? I think you’re right. Well, in lightning, I just kind of let this survive me, but now I did a little research of the weekend. Obviously, this is a heresy to deny the Trinity. They’ve got some people in different denominations here in the South and so on. They don’t really let out that they are. They’re in the Southern Baptist Convention and some, I say some, in parts of the Pentecostal movement. Now, when I was a kid, they called it the Gospel Tabernacle.
A lot of the old kind people that went into the assembly got wonderful beautiful people, but now they’ve got away from holiness, they’ve got away from a lot of these, when I say holiness, I mean living right, not holiness to these days. And these new movements are all united together, brother, under false doctrine. That’s the problem with this new matter movement, joining everybody together. Luther said he’d rather have doctrine than love, you know. So, if you had anything else to say, I’m going to hang up a list because I was hoping you would do research on the weekend and you’d have some more to add.
Well, thank you so much. I appreciate that call from Pensacola, Florida. And obviously, we are living in a time when doctrine seems to be going out the window. And it says in the second Timothy 4, the time will come, and I believe it has come, when they would not endure sound doctrine. but after their own lust, he put themselves teachers having itching ears and they’ll turn away their ears from the truth, the Word of God, and be turned unto fables or lies, and this is certainly one of them.
So a good alert for all of us when we hear about the oneness teachings, it’s about a denial of Trinity. Certainly God exists as three separate eternal persons, God the Eternal Father, God the Eternal Son, and God the Eternal Spirit. Spirit and the Bible is quite clear about that and to even change the word. And of course, that’s why some of these modern translations really are aiding the cause because they leave out, as you said in the NIV in the Lord’s Prayer, it leaves out certain key things which are essential.
God bless and thank you so very much. We now have another caller and this caller is Michael from Brookfield, Wisconsin and Michael welcome to Bible Engineering. Turn the volume down and I hear the radio program in the background. Yes, sir. Okay. You were talking on your sermon yesterday kind of on the same thing you’re talking about today on Hanukkah? Yeah. Okay now in verse 31 it says then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Aren’t they in the temple?
Yeah, they are. Okay, where they getting the stones from? Well, you know, I picked up stones up on the temple mount to this day. I don’t know how how clean the mount was what there were no stones there, but that’s a good question. But I was wondering if they like a box of rocks in the maybe they had a box of rocks we have a crack right they have a box of rocks right now they might have carried some with them i don’t know that’s an example any good jewish guys carrying rocks with them uh…
i guess so you may just don’t know but isn’t that amazing uh… that they uh… uh… would attempt to kill him right there on the spot they were enraged by his claim and obviously uh… it’s so fascinating that was on Hanukkah that this occurred and Christ of course picked that day to present himself because that was the day that the temple was rededicated and they were celebrating that and here he comes the one from the temple was built. They should have received him but they rejected him on Hanukkah.
Okay and I got one more question for you. Verse 34, you kind of ended your thing at verse 33 but verse 34, Jesus answered them and said, is it not written in your law? You are God. What is the meaning by that? Well the leadership in Israel were called gods as they acted in the place of God. And here these religious leaders acting in the place of God were actually in error here in rejecting the one who truly was God.
And he’s saying here that, are you saying here that I am blaspheming because I said I am the son of God.” Well, he’s obviously referring to the fact that he was the true and living God. And they acting on behalf of the nation were making a serious error here in rejecting the Savior on behalf of the nation because it was really the leadership that rejected Christ. The multitudes many times followed him as we know on Palm Sunday. They cried out, Hosanna to the son of David and strawed the way with palm branches and their coats and cloaks and so on.
But the leadership said no, he’s not the Messiah. And I think it’s a judgment upon them. I never knew that. Thank you very much. Lord, thank you. And obviously you must be referring to the fact that you watched us on the Internet as we’re webcasting now our Sunday morning worship. And you’re able to see that up there in Wisconsin and really in any place on the planet. It’s really you can watch our morning worship. That goes back into archive, and so you’ll be able to see that again and again and again.
And hopefully you’ll take advantage. We’re going to now go to Ken in Clearwater, and Ken, welcome to Bibleline your own ear. Yeah, Mary Christmas to you and all your listeners. Well, thank you. Same to you. Two quick questions for you, then I’ll get off and listen on the… All right, somehow we cut him off. Somehow we lost that call. I’m sorry, Ken, please call back. And we’ll get you up on the air. We’re going to go now to. I’ll put my camera in there now.
Excuse me? Somehow we got you off. So start again. No, I’ve heard over the years that some commentators in the gospel of John 3 16 have said that that really wasn’t price-taking of a sort of John summarizing. I don’t know if it makes one difference, one way or the other. Well, if you believe in inspiration and that the writers of the Bible were inspired of God and they wrote the words that came forth from God Himself, that God is the breath of Scripture, which is really what it says in Second Timothy 3.16, all Scripture is given by inspiration of God.
That phrase, given by inspiration of God, is two words in the Greek and it really is God breathed. That He is the breath that breathes out through the apostles and the prophets as the Word of God was written. And that this is really what God says. And this is the Word of God, not the Word of men. So it tells us a lot about those who are making the statements that they obviously do not believe in the inspiration taught in the Bible that God is the author of scripture and the human writers were simply giving us what God spoke through them to us.
And therefore, I believe this is a direct quote from Christ. And if you just say that John was giving us his thoughts or summarizing that’s a denial of the inspiration of scripture. In the second question, yes, I just happened to see on TV there are a few days ago they’re talking about the Rapture and the individual talking said that the only references that he knew up to the Rapture were any epistles of Paul. Do you agree with that or is there?
No, I don’t. John 11 is one reference there where Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life. He either believe it than me, though he were dead yet, shall he live. That’s what happens to most of the people. of this age, but then he says in verse 26 of John 11, and whosoever liveth and believeth that me shall never die. So he talks about a group that will never die and it will be living that have believed on him when he comes back that will be apparently raptured out and never die.
John chapter 14, Jesus said in my father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so and we have to go to break here. We will have to take up this topic when we get back. Stay tuned. back after this for granted don’t go away by the line will be back in a moment give us a call at one eight hundred five seven six three seven seven one that’s one eight hundred five seven six thirty seven seventy one i’m not going to lose was great being with you today thanks for tuning into the broadcast and mary christmas to all of you who are listening and also as we just said on the program today happy honey cub because Hanukkah is all about Christ.
That’s right. And he was rejected on Hanukkah, the festival of lights, the Feast of Dedication, when the Jewish people were celebrating the rededication of the temple of BC 165. Christ comes to the house that was built for him and he’s rejected and they try to kill him. Well in any case it’s all about Jesus, he is the Savior. Merry Christmas to you and your family and I hope you have a wonderful holiday. And by the way would you consider giving a special Christmas gift to Bible and as we approach this holiday it would be a blessing to us as we’d like to make sure that we have all of our bills paid off before the years out and entered 2007 with everything taken care of.
And as you think about giving, could you give us a special Christmas gift to Bibleline? Put Jesus on your shopping list and if you would consider us as a way of giving a gift to Christ, that would be greatly appreciated as we are totally dependent upon our listeners and we would love to make sure that this year ends with nothing outstanding and assure that you’re going to be able to hear this program on your station in the coming year.
God bless you, Merry Christmas to you. Thanks for your prayers and for your gifts to Bibleline. I want to thank you in advance for considering giving a special gift to Bibleline. We’re leaving for Israel and March, on March 12th of Monday, coming back March 23rd of Friday, I hope you’ll be with me on this trip. It’ll be trip number 14 for me. We’ll have a great time, a safe time, and we would love to have you join us for this journey of a lifetime.
It really is. I have been 13 times. This will be trip number 14 for me. We’d love to have you there. And just skip the information, call our 800 member, we’ll be glad to mail it to you, or you can go right to the internet and go to BibleLineMinistries.org and click on Bible ign News on the home page and you’ll be able to download the entire itinerary and the sign up sheet and get yourself going. We’re going to go back and return to stations that have been on break.
We’re going to do the second half of Bibleline and I hope you’ll join me for Bibleline Part 2. And if you can’t get it on your station, if it doesn’t carry the second half, then go to the internet and you’ll catch the entire program. So hold tight, don’t change that dial. I’ll be right back in about one second. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lindstrom a question? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771.
That’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Alright, we’re back from that break and this is Bibleline and wonderful to be with you. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah. I hope you’re having a great holiday season here and I hope you’ll take advantage to share the Gospel. This is the greatest time of the year to be able to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s all about Christ. Jesus is the reason for the season. We have lots of tools in our resource center that will help you.
A book that tells you how to lead someone to Christ called Handbook of Personal Evangelism. We have that in Spanish and English. And also we have lots of tracks that really work that actually lead people to Christ. And we have CDs that are very helpful. We have the how permanent is your salvation that has led so many people to Christ. We have a seven minute DVD video. of a simple presentation that I give about what you must do to be saved.
If you can get somebody to watch that seven minutes, you really have an opportunity to see them come to know Christ. But you can also, of course, lead them to Christ yourself, one-on-one. And the book that we mentioned, handbooked to the person of Angela will tell you how to do that step by step. And it makes it so simple that you’re going to find it’ll be one of the most joyous things in your life that of leading someone else to a saving knowledge of Christ.
You know, Christmas is really about Christ. It’s about the gift of God, which is eternal life. And many people have celebrated Christmas all of their lives and have never received the gift of Christmas, which is Christ and eternal life through trusting Him as Savior. I’m praying that many people will come to know Jesus as Savior over the holidays. As you think about Christmas giving, would you consider giving a special gift to Bible line? A lot of people make a shopping list.
They put their nephews and nieces and children and grandchildren and St. Uncles and brothers and sisters and so on. But sometimes Jesus is not even able to make the list. Can you imagine going to a birthday party giving gifts to everybody that attends except for the one whose birthday it is? Did you remember that this is the birthday of Christ? The wise men who were wise obviously gave all their gifts to Jesus. They recognized that it was his birthday and the gifts were given to Jesus.
They didn’t give any to my recollection to Mary or to Joseph. All the gifts were given to Jesus. In fact, there was no exchange. Mary and Joseph didn’t say, here’s some gifts for you, wise men. It was not a trade-off. All the gifts were given to Christ. Would you consider adding Christ to your shopping list and maybe consider Bibleline as a means of giving to Christ as Christmas? We want to thank you in advance for your prayers and for your gifts to Bibleline.
We pray you have a wonderful and merry Christmas this year, a safe holiday. Take advantage of the season until people that Jesus is the reason and share with them the Gospel of Christ. Perhaps you can give away the gift of eternal life to someone this holiday by telling them that Christ is the Savior and having them trust Jesus as your Savior. We have a caller from Venice, Florida. He’s been waiting throughout the entire break, and I believe the name is Oret if I didn’t pronounce that right.
I helped me out, but welcome to my blend. Just hi, Dr. Hankel. How are you doing? Good. Quick question. Question, I was just here in the last week’s program, but I heard something about the oneness. Yeah. Yeah, and I just wanted to find out if there was an In Jesus name. Well, you know, the order of prayer in the New Testament is that we pray to the Father through Jesus who is the mediator. You know, 1 Timothy 2, 5 says there’s one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
So we obviously go to God the Father through Christ and of course in the direction of The Holy Spirit teaches us through His Word what is acceptable to God as we pray. We might pray scripturally and get answers to our prayers. So we obviously include all three members of the Godhead in our prayers. So it’s just perfectly fine. We pray to God to Father through Christ. So we oftentimes close it in Jesus’ name or in the name of Jesus our Savior.
Yes, because that’s what I’ve been doing for years. But the heresy that you’re talking about, what is that referring to? They simply deny the Trinity. They believe that there’s just one God and deny the fact that there are three separate eternal persons that comprise the Godhead, the eternal Father, the eternal Son, and the eternal Holy Spirit. And so they reject that. Okay, because I’ve always, I’m in the Pentecostal movement, but I’ve never denied the Trinity. I’ve just always prayed in Jesus’ name.
Well, that’s not really what this one asthology is all about. They deny the fact that there is a Father and a Holy Spirit. They simply say that God at different times manifest himself in different ways as the Father or the Son of the Holy Spirit, but there are not three separate eternal persons. So they’re one. It’s really a subtlety, but it’s a denial of eternity. And so basically it is an error theologically because the Bible clearly teaches that all All three co-exists at the same time and it is not, and I think most of these people have problems because they’re doing addition.
One plus one plus one is three and they just don’t buy into that, but yet it’s not one plus one plus one is one times one times one times one which equals one. And so there is only one God, but he is existent as three separate eternal persons and that’s And that’s what is denied by the One List doctrine. So, basically, I guess maybe it’s just being ignorant to the fact that as white. That’s what you’re just explaining. Right.
Now see, if you’re praying to Jesus, through Jesus, and ignoring the fact that there’s a separate person in the Holy Spirit, then that’s wrong. If you’re praying to the Father through Jesus in the direction that you’re taught by the Holy Spirit through His Word, then you’re accurate, you’re not denying the Trinity. the one’s doctrine would not allow you to do what I just said. Okay, because I’ve always done it the way you’re explaining. Well then you’re fine. You’re fine then.
All right. Okay. My other question was, what do you think about the new King James version Bible? Well, it has its problems. I wish that they had only changed the archaic words and brought it up to speed, but they’ve done more than that. and they’ve changed the text in many places and they’ve actually, you know, affected the doctrine of salvation and many of the doctrines by doing so. I have a sheet that I could send you if you call and ask for it on beware of the New King James version.
In Matthew 7 when it says narrow is the way, they take the word narrow and put in this place hard as the way. That’s a different concept. narrow to go to heaven because Christ is exclusively the only way. There are not many ways to heaven, but to say hard is a different concept that implies works. And so obviously it is very misleading. And there’s a number of examples that I have on the sheet that you might want to get a copy of.
So can I go on to internet and get that? I’m not too sure if we have that sheet there on the internet, but go ahead and look under Dr. Lynch from articles, I may have it there. If not, give us a call and we’ll try to take care of that for you. Alright, we’re going to go now to some off-air questions if we can. We have Jim in Claremont, Florida calling in. He says, what do you think about the teachings of Jonathan Edwards?
Obviously, he is the 17th century preacher here in America and very much a defender of the teachings of Calvinism. And basically again, that would mean you have no choice. The Calvinist believes that you’re saved with this regard to anything that you do even belief or trusting in Christ. That God picks out who He’s going to save. He overcomes you and you believe as a result of the fact that you’ve been saved. With no regard to whether you have believed or not, that’s simply a consequence of having been in a sense forced by God who has chosen you to be saved that you will then believe.
And there are obviously those who do not believe and they do not have a choice either. So some are in a sense chosen to go to help and others are chosen to go to heaven with disregard to your works or to your even belief in Christ or not. We have a caller from Tampa. Kareem is on the line. Welcome to Bibleline. How you doing, Dr. Hank? Good. Hey, you talked about angels last week and I got three questions I want to ask you.
The group questions are the chair of them. The next question is, I heard the total of the pulpit that Lucifer was an angel of musician. And the next question is, and also. Also, I believe I had read that the fallen angels, Satan angels had came down and had sex with the humans and produced giants. Is that true? I’ll hang up and… All right, Kareem. I’ll answer the last one first, and that is angels. Never came down in that sex with women.
Angels by the way, Matthew 22.30, do not marry nor are they given in marriage. So obviously that is a wrong answer because they do not have sex. They do not have children. And so also in Genesis 6 which is where they say the angels married women had children by them that were giants. The phrase, Sons of God there does not refer to angels. How do we know? Well, one verse should in the argument forever. Hebrews 1-5 says that God never called an angel his son.
God never called an angel his son. So obviously they were not angels. Those were believers marrying unbelievers. And the giants weren’t a result of the marriage. If you read Genesis 6-4, I don’t know why people don’t read their Bible better, but It says, and there were giants in the earth in those days, and also after that, the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men and had children by them. So the giants were already there before the marriages.
So again, it’s craziness. It’s just sloppy Bible study, sloppy scholarship on the part of those that are making these assertions. The cherubim apparently were special living creatures that are right about the throne of God. You read in Revelation 4 about these living creatures about the throne of God. And so they are not angels, but they are special beings. And there’s a very limited number of them. In Revelation 4, you only see four of them. Whenever you see the typical angel talked about that we talked about, the vial says they’re innumerable, that there are hundreds of millions gathered together many times whenever they are mentioned in scripture.
So for the cherubim there’s only a handful apparently and the same is true of the seraphim. These are special, special beings and they have wings but angels don’t have wings. As far as Lucifer in Ezekiel 28 we believe it’s a reference there to Satan before his fall and it talks about him as being a musician there. So go to Ezekiel 28 and you’ll find that apparently Satan is a musician and certainly a lot of the music today has to be inspired by Satan.
It talks about rape and killing and murder and just everything that’s contrary to God’s word and the filthy language and other things that are in the music that teens are listening to today is obviously a disgrace and certainly is in contempt of God, but is perhaps music produced by the devil himself as he tries to corrupt our youth and corrupt our minds because it’s a battle for the minds. You know, it says in 2 Corinthians 4, 4, that Satan, the God of this world, had blinded the minds of those which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ should shine into them.
So he obviously corrupts minds and he does it many times through music. You can hardly penetrate somebody who listens to all that music because their minds are just filled with everything that is today. Thank you for that call and our phone number here at Bibleline is 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Alright, Melvin in Richmond, Virginia says what is the oneness theology versus the Trinity theology? I have been hearing a lot of this lately some Trinitarian pastors are inviting oneness pastors to speak to their congregations.
Please comment. I believe that would be wrong. It would be an error to let anyone who teaches heresy or error into your pulpit as that would be the undercutting of sound doctrine in your church. And again, the one in theology denies the Trinity. Clearly, the Bible teaches that God exists as three eternal separate persons, God the eternal Father, God the eternal Son, and God the eternal Holy Spirit. All you have to do is go to John 1-1. It says, in the beginning, was the Word, which is a name for Jesus.
the word was with God, obviously that separates him from God the Father and he is God. So notice he is God, yet he is separate from God and existed and co-existed with God at the same time. When the beginning began and the universe was created, Jesus was there, the Father was there, the Holy Spirit was there. You see the whole God had involved in the creation in Genesis and the Holy Spirit mentioned in verse 2 in the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
It is a form of heresy creeping into Christianity today. Melvin, a pastor, would be remiss to allow those who believe in oneness to speak to their congregations unless they are reprimanded and told that their doctrine is wrong as they speak it. Thank you so much, Melvin, from Richmond, Virginia. We now have Joseph in Albany, New York. Is it okay to use the Ten Commandments to show their need for Christ? Absolutely. And the Ten Commandments were given to be a school teacher to bring us to Christ.
Galatians 3.24 tells us. But once Christ is received, we’re no longer under the law or under the school master. So yes indeed. When you show a person that if they bear false witness or tell a lie, that they are not eligible to enter heaven, Revelation 21, 27 says one lie would keep you out of heaven. It obviously brings that person to a recognition of their need. That happened to me. I was told in the Bible City I attended at 18 years of age that one lie would keep me out of heaven.
I saw the verse in Revelation 21, 27. I panicked. I really thought that God was going to great on a curve or if I wasn’t too bad as long as I was trying to do some good things in my life that God would let me in. When I realized that one lie would keep me out of heaven, I really recognized immediately how it was lost in big trouble and headed for hell. I needed to find the answer and of course the answer is to trust Christ as Savior.
We have Eddie in Hollywood, Florida calling in. He says, is there an order of church family of God for a Christian priority? Is there a reference in the Bible? Well, obviously, the chain of command in scripture is 1 Corinthians 11, and the first couple verses there, it says that there is God the Father, then Jesus, and then under Christ is the man and then the wife, and then of course the children and the husband of wife is the order.
Obviously, church is important, but not as important as our direct connection to the Lord. But if you are a believer, you then need to find a church that is doctrinally sound so that you are getting the instruction that your family needs to grow as a believer. And basically there are three separate institutions that God has instituted, marriage in Genesis chapter 2, and there is an order there where the husband is to be the head, not the dictator, of the family that God would guide the family through the man.
We see that clearly in Matthew chapter 2 when Herod was going to kill the young baby Jesus, God told Joseph, take thy wife and the young child and go down to Egypt until the death of Herod. He didn’t have Mary take the family down. He led the family through the man, the husband, Joseph. And then you have the institution of human government. We’re also responsible to pray for and to submit ourselves to the government we’re under, except when they would tell us to violate things that are of God.
Obviously, if the government tells us to do things that would be a violation of 10 commandments, we’re not to obey that. But we find that government is another institution and in Romans 13 you have a nice outline there of our responsibility to government. And of course the third institution is the church, the body of Christ. And we know there in 1 Corinthians 11 is the order of authority for that. Eddie, in Hollywood Florida, thank you so much for the call and I hope that answered your question.
We have Carl in Tampa, Florida calling in. Please explain Acts 10, 44 through 46 specifically what they are saying about tongues. Well, obviously when the Gentiles at the house of Cornelius trusted Jesus as their Savior, The gift of tongues was given there, and it was a sign to the Jewish believers that were with Peter that the salvation now had come to the Gentiles and that they had received the Holy Spirit. But tongues has ceased. There are only three mentions of tongues in the book of Acts, Acts chapter 2, Acts chapter in chapter 19, that’s it.
Then it’s gone. And it’s only mentioned in Corinthians, and that’s in 1 Corinthians, otherwise it’s gone. Tongues was a temporary gift. It ceased. It’s over, but it was an early manifestation as the gospel went out to 1st Boza Pentecost, into the Samaritans and to the Gentiles and of course now out to the entire world. Mike in St. Pete, what do you think about God’s new word translation? I looked it up on the internet and I think it’s terrible. I don’t recommend it at all.
It mistranslates repent, has turned from sin. just obviously shows a lack of any good scholarship. I would not own a copy except maybe as a reference in your on your shelf. But I don’t like the new God’s word translation. Thank you for that call. And hopefully that answered your question. The dug in Pensacola calls in and he says, Please explain that Jesus is only here. See, that’s this oneness the algae we have been talking about today. I believe it’s also called modalism.
It is a denial of the trinity. And so Doug, that clearly is wrong. I would certainly reject that. We have here Benjamin, in the St. Petersburg. He calls in and says, why is the word Rapture in the Bible? The word Rapture is not in the Bible. And he says, when was that instituted? Well, the word Rapture means caught up. And thank God they didn’t put the word Rapture there because at 1 Thessalonians 4 17, it says that we which are alive and remain shall be caught up.
If you want to put the word rapture there, you’re welcome to it. That’s exactly what word caught up is the definition of the word rapture. So the rapture is there, but the English word rapture is not there. The word Trinity is not a new Bible, yet we believe in the Trinity. So I wouldn’t get too upset about it. I’m glad that the English word is not there. You’d have to look it up in the dictionary to find out what it means.
It means caught up in the Bible, up in the Bible says we’re going to be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. Clearly the Rapture is described in 1 Thessalonians 4. Well, I pray that everybody listening is trusted Christ and Savior. If you haven’t, you need to do that right now. Lord, I am a sinner. Just pray a simple prayer like this and say, I trust Jesus Christ right now as my Savior. I believe He died for my sins was buried and rose again from the dead.
The moment you trust Him, God saves you. It’s the most important decision you’ll ever make in your life. And I hope you’ve been. made this decision to trust Christ. And from that moment on, you’re eternally saved. Then you need to make a second decision to serve Christ, and He will bless you for your faithful service. Again, would you consider giving a special gift to Bibleline? Here as we approach Christmas, and that would help us to make sure that we enter the new year with all of our bills paid.
