the worship service from My church we are going to take a look this morning at the book of Joel a lot of people Read Joel 228 it’s quoted by Peter In the day of Pentecost, in Acts chapter 2, it says it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. Your old men shall dream dreams and your young men shall see visions and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids and those days will I pour out my Spirit.
Now, we find in the book of Acts in chapter 2 at Pentecost, Peter never said that the Scripture was fulfilled. So many times we have an Old Testament passage quoted, and then the Bible says that this passage was fulfilled. For example, in Matthew we have that time and time again with the birth of Christ. It gives the prophecy from the Old Testament, and I’ll just give you an example here in Matthew chapter 1, it says, she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.
Verse 22 of Matthew 1 says, Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet saying. And then it quotes from Isaiah 7, 14, how the virgin would conceive and bear a son that would actually be God dwelling with us. And so you’ll see that again and again and again. But in the book of Acts, Peter never says that the prophecy in Joel was fulfilled, but he says that the same Holy Spirit promised by Joel is the Holy Spirit that came at Pentecost upon the believers.
Actually Joel’s prophecy is still yet future and will not happen until after the tribulation period, it will happen after Jesus comes back and at that point you will have only believers on the earth. All unbelievers will be killed at the Second Coming by Jesus. In other words, if you are not a believer right now and the rapture were to happen, you would be left behind, then you would have seven years to get your act together to trust Jesus as your Savior.
If you didn’t trust Jesus as Savior by the end of that seven-year period of tribulation, then Christ would slay you at His Second Coming. He would come back, it says in 2 Thessalonians 1 8 9, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on those that know not God and that obey not the gospel, and they’ll be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power. everlasting destruction means an eternity in hell. You wouldn’t want that to happen to you, but Christ comes back in fire taking vengeance on those who do not trust Jesus as Savior.
No unbelievers will enter the thousand year reign of Christ. Only believers will enter in. Now, a key word here in Joel 2, 28 is, it shall come to pass afterward, afterward, Afterward, afterward, afterward. What is the afterward? Well, if you read the chapter here, it’s talking about the battle of Armageddon beginning in the first part of chapter 2, and it talks here about the sun and the moon being darkened. The same thing we read in Matthew 24 about the second coming of Christ.
And then we find part of the afterward is in verse 20, but I will remove far off from you the northern army. We believe this is talking about Russia. At Armageddon, Russia will come down and strike at Israel in the plains of Jezreal where Armageddon is. An Armageddon will be the first strike of this world war, the worst war the world has ever seen and apparently will set off a nuclear exchange. And notice it says here, I will remove Far off from you the Northern Army and will drive him into a land barren and desolate.
And notice the geography here. This is written around 800 years BC by the Prophet Joel and I don’t know that he ever left Israel and certainly the maps of that day were not accurate but look at this geographical description it couldn’t get any better than if you were to look at a map today and look at this passage and look at the amazing accuracy of the Bible. Of course God created the planet and he knows all about geography and he’s got it down right but he says I’ll drive him that is Russia into a land barren and desolate with face toward the east sea.
My friend, that’s talking about Siberia. The East Sea, there is the Pacific Ocean. Right across those Bering Straits is Alaska. And so Russia, what’s left in Ezekiel, it tells us that six of Russia will be destroyed. Only a six will survive. And that part that survives is up there in Siberia, way up there toward the Pacific Ocean. And we’re talking about the uttermost north part of Russia. And then it says, notice, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea.
Now what is the utmost sea? That’s the Arctic sea. You can’t go any further north than to come up against the Arctic sea, and that is the utmost sea. And so what’s remaining is that part of Russia over against the Pacific near the Bering Strait, And that part up north, right up against the Arctic Sea. What a description here of Siberia and what will remain of Russia. In Ezekiel 39 it tells us plainly that only one sixth of Russia will survive Armageddon.
And notice it says here, and his stink shall come up and his ill-saver shall come up because he hath done great things. Well because of Russia’s attack, Russia will also be attacked by nuclear weapons and wiped out and only a six will remain in only that part in this beautiful geographical description. I marvel here at Joel’s being able to write this, but of course he writes it under inspiration of God the Holy Spirit who is the author who certainly knows all about geography and certainly would get it right.
But then we know it says, fear not, O land, be glad and rejoice, for the Lord will do great things. And now it talks about Jesus returning and actually blessing the land of Israel and the world and that He would actually dwell on the earth in the midst of Israel. Look at verse 27, and you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel and that I am the Lord your God, and none else, and my people shall never be ashamed.
So from that point on Israel will be living in the sight of their Savior as He comes back to establish His thousand year reign. Then it says in the verse that we began with, it shall come to pass afterward, afterward, afterward, afterward, after what? After Armageddon, after the destruction of Russia, after Christ has come back and dwells in the midst of his people in Israel as king over the earth king of the Jews. Then it says afterward, I’ll pour out my spirit upon all flesh.
That hasn’t happened yet. My neighbors don’t have the Holy Spirit. I wish they all did a few perhaps and around the church here, There are many families that don’t know the Lord. They don’t have the Holy Spirit. There’s a lot of folks in the city of Tampa here where I live that don’t have the Holy Spirit. The Bible says here in Joel 2, 28, that I’ll pour out my Spirit upon all flesh. That means every human being on the planet will have the Holy Spirit.
How can that be possible? Well, the answer is when Christ comes back in his second coming, he destroys every unbeliever on the planet. Only believers will be left to enter that thousand year reign of Christ. And so with everybody being a believer, he pours out his spirit upon every believer on the planet. So this is still to be fulfilled in the future when Christ does return. I believe we’re getting closer. My goodness, you can see what’s happening in the Middle East all the time and truly the Bible tells us that Israel would be surrounded by enemies, by nations that would hate her and we see that now with an Islamic State right there in the little city or little area of Gaza.
And by the way they have now pronounced that it’s illegal to worship any God but Allah or I guess you’ll be killed. So Christians in Gaza are certainly at risk today. What a horrible situation to live under Islamic rule because they’ll kill you if you are an infidel and you don’t believe in their god Allah. Which by the way, Allah is the moon god. All throughout the Middle East and here in Tampa at the University of Tampa we have this Muslim Prayer towers called minarets and at the top of each prayer tower you have the crescent moon Why because the visual is you’re praying to the moon God?
That’s right I’m afraid the God of Islam cannot help anybody. He’s the moon God and Hope that you don’t fall for that, but obviously Islam is a false religion one that is misleading millions in pack over a over a billion people are captured by this false belief system that Satan has inspired. And obviously all of them will go to hell unless they have their eyes opened to come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. That is certainly a heartbreaker, isn’t it?
And the heart goes out for all those many that are in that false religion that are blinded. And obviously they believe that we are the Great Satan and that we are the infidels and that we deserve to be killed. And obviously as soon as they have the nuclear weapon in their arsenal, it will be used against the US of A and against Israel and against any group or nation that does not embrace Islam. This is the most scary thing in our world today.
I’m glad Jesus is coming and he’ll destroy all unbelievers and then he will set up his rule here on the earth as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I’m Dr. England Stroom, this is Bible and I hope you have trusted Christ as your Savior. If you haven’t, this tell him right now, Lord I trust you as my only hope of heaven, believing that you died and shed your blood and paid my sin debt and full, was buried in rose again from the dead.
The moment you trust Christ, God will save you and he saves you eternally. That’s the most important decision you’ll ever make. Our phone number here is 1-800-576-3771. We’re going to go to the phone lines and we have Harold in St. Petersburg. Harold, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Yes, good morning, Dr. Hank. Last Friday, you made a statement that you thought it was a mistake for Israel to have gotten out of the Gaza Strip. Personally, I think that it was the divine providence of God that they got out of there because if you read in Isaiah 14 it talks about the whole deal of Palestinians.
It’s a rigorous, not-down whole Palestinian, which is basically talking about the Palestinian people, that He says he shall send a fiery flying serpent upon God’s strip, which basically it’s kind of ironic that a lot of nuclear weapons have the names of. And then also if you would go, I think it’s the one verse seven, and he also says again, he said, but I will send a white bank that what God did would get his people out of the as a strip because the one is just about ready to take place over there.
Well, it’s a great… obviously you are absolutely right, but you know in a worldly sense they really shouldn’t give up any land because all of it will become theirs but it’s not time yet for them to have it. And I would fully agree with you Harold. I just, in our spirit here we just say, well, this is dumb to give away this land which is really given to you but it’s not time yet and god will see that they get it all and i would uh…
fully agree with you and you’re right on okay good good good good good small scenario of what i think it’s going to happen probably before your which gets out of office all right tell me uh… i think that probably be united states or israel and will matter which one because we’re both the blame will be uh… uh… they’re going to strike iran their nuclear capability and because of that and right now we know how my often and uh… and all the other uh…
militant uh… uh… muslims are pretty much in the god the strip there because of that happened to it will then what will happen is they will start firing out of the god the strip all the records and all this other stuff into it will and i think that this thing will happen simultaneously with uh… with the What’s serious? Because if you also read in Isaiah, it talks about God is going to make Syria a runuous heat. And I think that Israel will probably, and this is where the fiery serpent thing comes in, that they will use technical nuclear weapons against the Palestinian order of the militant Palestinian of whatnot.
And simultaneously, because of that, we know the United States state government knows that before the war problem who saying paid the Syrian defense minister fifty million dollars to hide here and then all that other gas and stuff that he had in three different places in uh… in Syria now also when he talks about when he’s gonna send a fiery serpent upon him and he says also there will be a smoke that will come up on you out of the north talking about uh…
the god of the superior i think i’m a pain you sleep when israel strike uh… in that palestinian area that seria will use uh… that that gas and stuff that they have to try to destroy israel and then israel well more than likely have to make a uh… a cover attack against Syria which will be pretty much that property that the Syria will be a renewing heat because I mean smoke well we’re smoked you know we talked about problems but that would be you know the gas and whatnot that they have we know they have it and and then you know when you read Ezekiel 38 and 39 I’ve heard a lot of properties teachers talk about you know the country that are gonna excuse me come against Israel in the last time, I think, and if you read Ezekiel 38 and 39, out of all the countries, there’s one country that’s not mentioned, and that’s
Syria. Syria’s not in there at all. And I think that what happens is when Israel goes back and strikes the masters’ Syria for trying to wipe them out with this VX gas and all this other junk that they have over there, that that pretty much is going to start the ball that sees about all of these other companies finally whiteboard the face of the early during all that particular time and i think that’s reverently here in the united states all hell is going to break loose with a two-week up scattered all over the plate we’ve got only know what kind of weapons that they have scattered all throughout the united states and i think like i said i think your bush is going to do this before he get out of of office but I think he might feel that there might be a Democrat that’s going to get in
there and he’s not going to do the job that needs to be done. And probably, I mean my own feeling with it in the next few years, you will see all this stuff come to pass. I think we’re a whole lot closer to the return of our Lord and Jesus Christ than a lot of people would like to admit. I think you’re right about that. I think I would pretty much agree with you. We have a little bit of time differences as to when they happen, but all of this pretty much will be, I think, after the rapture during the tribulation.
But I think we’re close, and you can see the handwriting on the wall. And, Harold, we do thank you so much for calling in today. We have Don in Seminole, Florida now. Don, welcome to Bibleline Don, you are on the air. Yes, Dr. Hank, good morning. Yeah. I have a question for you. What is your take on Christians who don’t want to read some of the tougher parts of the Bible like Revelation? I guess they keep referring back to that one passage where it says, set your mind on things that are lovely, pure, holy.
They don’t want to read about Revelation or any of the tougher parts of the Bible. What do you think about that? Well, I think they’re missing out on some real blessings. If you read the Revelation right in the very first chapters, this blessed is he that read it, I think it’s verse 3 of the first chapter. So the one who reads and the one who keeps the sayings that are taught in that book are going to really be blessed of God, so they’re missing out on the blessings that God has for the one who reads it.
And I think whenever we don’t read the Bible, we lose that on what God wants to tell us. And there’s lots of wonderful lessons in the book of Revelation not only about prophecy, about the Lord Jesus Christ and about rewards for serving Him and so on and so on. And so I think they miss out. But you know, a lot of churches shy away because their pastors shy away from it. I think the leaders of the church need to leave the way on that because a lot of pastors never ever preach on prophecy or on the book of Revelation.
And I have a He said that most preachers therefore don’t really preach on biblical prophecy in those areas, and they’re just neglected. Yet Howard Hendricks out of Dallas Theological Seminary said that one-third of all scripture is in some way connected with prophecy, and to neglect the Bible. that one-third of all scripture is in some way connected with prophecy and to neglect prophecy would be to neglect a third of your Bible. And he said that would be a serious mistake on the behalf of a pastor.
So anyway, I don’t know what to say except that we are biblically ignorant today. Most Christians don’t know what their Bible has to say. you’re right they read the bible it’s just when it gets to you know the judgment and those types of things that you stay away from they they don’t like uh… hearing uh… you know the news because it’s not like uh… tough you know tough things going on the world thank you don’t amount of time here we’re gonna have to take our break if you haven’t trusted christ you need to do that you don’t want to enter eternity without jesus just tell him lord i’m a sinner but i trust you right now as the one who shed your blood to pay my sin debt and full was buried and rose again from the dead we’re gonna take a break will come back and if you would like to catch the full

And we’ve got a lot of all fair questions. We’re going to go ahead and take some of those right now. And If you want to call in and be live on the program, you can call at 1-800-576-3771. Write that down. 1-800-576-3771. Diane, in Palm Harbor, Florida, calls in with his offer of question.
She says, where in the Bible does it say, believe the Lord concerning the promise about the seed that would come to Abraham that would be the Messiah. Great question, Diane, and I’d like to point you to Galatians chapter 3. It tells us there that Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness. That’s a direct quote from Genesis 15 and 6 that tells about Abraham hearing the promise and believing that promise that God gave him about the promise he Jesus and he believed it was saved.
If you read verse 8 of Galatians 3 it says this, Diane, it says, and the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the nations through faith preached before, touches preached before the Gospel and Abraham. Abraham, obviously, heard the gospel, believed the gospel, and that’s how Abraham was saved. Everybody who’s ever to be saved has to be saved the way Abraham was. He’s called in Romans 4, the Father of Faith, because he placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, And all those that trust Christ like Abraham did are given this wonderful salvation through Jesus that Abraham was told about would come of his very own lineage.
Diane, thank you for calling that’s Galatians chapter 3 verse 6 and 7 and 8. And you’ll find that Abraham heard the gospel, believed the gospel, and was saved. We have Jeff calling in from Deland, Florida, and Jeff says, I know you speak against the NIV version of the Bible. How do you feel about the New King James? I have a King James Scofield study Bible. Thanks to you. I’m curious about the New King James. Well, we have a sheet that we’d be happy to mail out to you about the New King James Omissions.
I thought when originally this was going to come out that they would just probably make the older archaic words modern and let it alone. But they omit a lot of words entirely and they actually changed the text in many places. The new king James amidst the word Jehovah entirely, amidst the word hell 22 times, the word blood 23 times, omits the word heaven 50 times, and omits damnation entirely, omits the word devils entirely, and so on and so on.
And unfortunately they have a lot of omissions. But what is scary is when it comes to salvation and they really change salvation to a works message. You know back in Matthew chapter 7 where Jesus said narrow is the way that leads unto life. We find the new king James says difficult is the way. That’s a whole different concept. It’s narrow because Christ is exclusively the only way to heaven. But to say difficult seems to put the burden on you and make salvation by works.
And it’s amazing. and we have the sheet that will help you see some of the errors. Plus what is interesting is that the logo of the New King James Version is the ancient symbol for the pagan trinity and they make it a symbol for the Christian trinity. It is really the use of number symbols like 666 and it can be traced all the way back to the Egyptian Mysteries many years ago. The symbol is used on a satanic rock group album like Led Zeppelin and on other New Age books and so on.
I don’t know why they chose such an ungodly symbol as the logo for that Bible, but the New King James I’m afraid is not something I would recommend either. We have George in South Carolina and he says, how about Dr. James Dobson? Does he have an credibility? I like a lot of what Dr. James Dobson does in bringing awareness of what is happening in our country and how our Congress oftentimes is not alert to the damage that they can do through different laws and things that are happening that they do.
Dr. James Dobson is Nazarene and on his program he often tells how he wants you to pray for him that he can be faithful to the end so he can go to heaven. That’s work for salvation and that scares me. So I’m afraid for his salvation because if you trust and works according to the Bible you’ll not be saved. And I’ve heard him numerous times talk about being faithful to the last day of your life so that you might be eligible to enter heaven that makes salvation by works.
We have Norma in Alabama calling in. She says, I know the Bible says you’re appointed to die. How do you explain Lazarus? I know that there’s an explanation for it, but don’t know how to find it. Thanks and God bless you for you and your ministry. So you know, there are apparently exceptions and Elijah, for example, never died but was caught up in a fiery chariot. Enoch was translated, never died. caught up to meet the Lord back in Genesis chapter 5.
And of course there will be a whole group of folks that will never die. If you’re living at the rapture normal you’ll be caught up to meet the Lord in the air and be transformed into your new body on the way up and never experience physical death. Jesus talked about that in John 11.25 and 26. He said in John 11.25 I am the resurrection and the life. He’s a bull. He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
That’s true of most. They believe and they die and then they’re resurrected. But then he goes on to say in verse 26, and whosoever, liveth and believeth in me shall never die. So in other words, if you’re living, when Christ returns, you’ll be a part of a group if you’re a believer that will never die, but simply be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. And of course, Lazarus was raised from the dead. I think he probably died physical death after that.
But he definitely was brought back from the dead. And of course, that’s not normal. That’s not the regular thing. That’s the exception. But God, Christ was demonstrating there that he is the one who raises the dead, that he is God. He says, I am the resurrection and the life. Thank you so much for that question. Rosalie calls in from citrus Heights, California. Thank you Rosalie for calling in. What do you know about science and a missing day and how it is true in the Bible?
Well, you know, it’s interesting that when you read about the story of the long day in Joshua, it talks about a day that was extended because of the battle so that Israel could gain the victory. And of course I don’t think that the earth actually stopped moving, but I believe that apparently the sun’s light was somehow refracted around the earth so that they had light for that extra day. But that I believe is a true event and that the Bible really teaches it and I hope that that helps a little bit.
There are some that try to tell us and I don’t think it can be supported necessarily but that the actual day is missing out of history. That would be difficult I think to prove. We’ll just have to wait and see. Rich in Bradenton, Florida calls in and he says, when Jesus was being interrogated by the chief priest, does the scripture say that he did not know who he was? And of course that is not true. He knew exactly who he was at all times.
But he did not defend himself. You know, Isaiah 53 foretells exactly what took place there. He says, as a sheep before his shears is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. So Jesus did not try to defend himself. He was submitting himself as a lamb to the shears. He was submitting himself for sacrifice to die for you and for me. And he did not try to wiggle out of it. Christ was fully committed to the obedient unto death. Philippians chapter 2 talks about how that he was obedient unto death.
willingly gave his life and went to the cross to die for you and me. Rich, I hope that helps down in Bradenton, Florida. Martha, down in Bradenton, Florida calls in. She leaves us off her question. How do you love God with all your heart and soul and strength and mind? Well that’s, I think, impossible. It is something we ought to strive toward but can never be be completely done, because we have a wicked nature, a sinful nature that we inherit from Adam.
Jeremiah 17-9 says, The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. And so I think with our nature, which is inherited from Adam, a sinful nature, it’s not possible for us to do that. And of course that is the first commandment, and no one has ever kept the commandments. We fall short of each of those commandments. In fact, the word sin means to come short or fall short and anything less than perfection or being as righteous as God will exclude you from heaven.
So we’re not able to do that, but we can strive to do that. Certainly, we ought to attempt to love the Lord with all of our heart with all of our soul, with all of our mind. He really aren’t capable of doing that. It’s just like the fellow that looked in the mirror and was admiring himself. And he said, Lucky world, Lucky world. Well, obviously, at that moment at least he was not loving the Lord his God with all of his heart, with all his mind, with all of his strength.
Whenever we focus on ourself and love ourself above the Lord God, then we’ve broken that commandment, haven’t we? Thank you for the question Martha done in Britain to Florida. We have Patty in Tampa, Florida. Excuse me. Patty says, are there scriptures that can help me when I’m depressed? I’m having a problem with my marriage and I am depressed. Absolutely. There are many verses and let me give you this one. And I think as a Christian, this is one that every Christian ought to really turn to often as you experience difficulty in your life.
But in 1 Corinthians 10, 13, it says, there is no testing. So this is you, Patty. There is no testing taking you but such as this common to man. Other people have these problems too. But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that which you are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape that you may be able to bear. So 1 Corinthians 1013, write that down, Patty. 1 Corinthians 1013, God is watching over you.
He would never allow anything to come into your life. It would be more difficult than you could handle. And He’s not going to allow you to be tempted above that which you’re able to have victory over. And He is also, according to this passage, gives you a way to escape. So just be sensitive to the Lord and let him strengthen you and just put your trust that he is not going to leave you abandoned and let you become overcome by temptation.
You can have victory and make your way through it as God promises that in 1 Corinthians 10 13. We have Joseph in Riverview Florida and Joseph says, what characteristic should mark a pastor’s life, and why so many preachers in America act like politicians? Well, it’s interesting, but the pastoral epistles, I think, are the best place to turn, and definitely Timothy was a young pastor, and Paul wrote and gave him good advice as to what should be true in his life.
Let me just read a couple of verses here and there are numerous passages you could turn to. But here’s what Paul tells young Timothy about being a pastor. In 2 Timothy 2 it says in verse 22, flee also youthful lust, but follow righteousness, faith, love, peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23, but foolish and unlearned questions avoid knowing that they gender stripes. Verse 24, the servant of the Lord must not strive, but he should be gentle unto all men.
He should be apt to teach, patient. In verse 25, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves and so on. So there’s some really good hints and that would be helpful to you, I think, Joseph. So read that passage and read the pastoral epistles and you’ll find lots of advice for young pastors. We now have Bob in St. Petersburg and he calls in and says, please explain what can definitely be known today about the ten tribes of Israel that were dispersed by the Assyrians.
Well, apparently they were all known at the time of Christ and of the time of the apostles. If you read James, chapter 1, verse 1, it says, James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. So he’s writing the twelve tribes. Obviously they were not lost or he could not have written to them. So this letter of James is written to them. You’ll notice at the birth of Christ, turn to Luke’s Gospel with me and turn there to chapter 2 and we find several of the so-called lost tribes were obviously present.
At the time of Christ birth. We have here in chapter 2 it says in verse 36 there was one named Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Fenul of the tribe of Asir. Now that was one of the ten tribes that was taken away by Assyria. Here she is living in Jerusalem and she was a widow and she came to the temple of the regularly. She departed not from the temple that served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
And she coming in at that instant gave thanks, likewise unto the Lord, and spanked to all of them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. She happened to be there when Mary and Joseph brought Jesus into the temple to dedicate him to the Lord. And so she’s from the tribe of Asher. Obviously there are many, many other references to all of the other tribes. And Paul, the apostle, was a apostle that was Jewish and wanted to reach his fellow Jewish brother.
Then he obviously went wherever he could to find Jewish people and share the gospel with them. Thank you. Dwight in Pensacola, Florida, calls in and says, money was never a titable commodity during the law of Moses. Those who produce products from the land tie their products. Why is it now taught that they should tie with money? Okay. Well, obviously we now use money as a form of exchange. And of course in the Old Testament, I think they did have the shekel, but a lot of people just traded their commodities.
So they were to tie the tenth of their herd of their crops, a tenth of the crop that they was to be given, and of course that could be converted to money and given in the form of money, but I don’t think that’s a big argument Today we obviously do all our buying and selling through money as a way of making that exchange easy and to facilitate it. Speed things up. Can you imagine if you went to the grocery store and you wanted to buy a lot of canned goods and groceries and you said, well, here I’m going to trade you a couple of sheep for all these canned goods.
It would really be a long days bargaining to figure out the worth of the sheep and the store probably wouldn’t even do it anyway. So anyway, money has the coins and dollars have been in a very quick convenient way to exchange for goods. Thank you Dwight, I hope that helped, I don’t know, I don’t think we’re ever going to go back to the other, at least not here. Shelly, in When Chattanooga, Tennessee calls in and she says, I believe once saved, always saved.
But you need you to explain, 1 John 3. So it will help me when I witness my radio on my desk and my coworkers are asking questions. Well, 1 John 3-9, Shelley, is talking about the new birth. It says if you are born of God, then you do not commit sin. What it is talking about is that the new birth is not capable of sinning. Yet in 1 John 1 8, because we have an old nature, we still continue to sin.
It almost seems like a contradiction. In 1 John 1 8, it says, if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. In chapter 3 verse 9 it says, Whosoever is born of God. Now notice that’s talking about the new birth. Thus not commit sin. The word commit there means a single act of sin. You’re not capable. The new nature is not capable of sinning. For why? His seed or God’s seed remains in him and he cannot sin because he’s born of God.
So I have a nature within me, Shelley, and if you are a believer you do too, that is not capable of sitting. At the same time you have an old nature that is fully capable of sitting and will not get rid of that until we die. Paul the Apostle says in chapter 7 verse 18 of Romans, chapter 7 verse 18 he says, I know that is in my flesh. He talks about the struggle within and between this law of the old nature against the law of the new nature and how the believer struggles with this.
and he says in verse 25 of Romans 7, the victory is in found in Christ. So as a believer we can have victory over sin, but we can never live totally sinless, but yet our new nature is called a divine nature, a nature created in true righteousness and true holiness Ephesians 4, 24 and cannot sin. So I hope that explains that you have to recognize we have two natures as believers within us. Thank you for calling in from Chattanooga, Tennessee.
