As you, our listeners, are the means by which we keep this program going. We’re going to talk about the Bible for a little bit and then we’re going to take our callers. We have a lot of offer questions from all over the place. We’ll try to take as many of those as we can as well. The phrase repent of sin does not even occur in the Bible. Now repentance is taught in the Bible and we will be defining that in just a moment.
But the phrase repent of sin does not even occur, not even once. Most people are shocked to hear that because they hear that phrase repent of your sin or repent of sin so often you would think it appears on every page of the Bible. nowhere does the scripture use the phrase, repent of sin to be saved. It does say in the Bible, in Acts 2021, repentance toward God, which by the way means a change of mind towards God and then place your faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
You see repentance is the translation of the Greek word metanoia. Meta means change. Noya means mind. The two words together metanoia I mean a change of mind. And that’s all it means. It does not mean the turn from sin or to have sorrow for sin. In fact, the problem is that the Greek word never had an English equivalent when they made the translation back in 1611. The English word repent does not mean the same thing as the Greek word.
too bad so sad that so many go to their English dictionary and look up the meaning of the word repent and there they’ll see turning from sin or sorrow for sin and that’s the way to define it. But you really have to go back to the New Testament Greek, the New Testament was written in the Greek language and the Greek means change your mind. I’m I’m sure that you probably are already familiar with another Greek word with the preface.
metamorphosis. You’ve heard of that. Metamorphosis means form or structure and the word metamorphosis is used to describe the change caterpillar goes through to become a beautiful butterfly. I’m sure you have studied about this change of form called metamorphosis. Metamorphosis. Well, repentance is a change, but it’s a change of mind. Meta means change, and Noya means mind. It’s a change of mind. And obviously, today we have a problem because to tell someone they have to turn from sin to be saved really is in error.
That would be works for salvation. You know the Bible says in Ephesians 2-8 that salvation is not of yourself, that it is in verse 9 not of works, lest any man should boast. If you had to turn from your sin, that would be a human work. The problem comes also because people say, how do I know if I’ve turned from enough sin, or how much sin do I have to turn from? But obviously all of that is nonsense because the Bible tells us that God or Christ died for sinful men in Romans, it says in chapter 5 that He died for us while we were yet in the state of sinning or while we were yet in the state of committing acts of sin Christ died for us.
I love what the hymn writer wrote when he said, Just as I am I come, without one plea But that thy blood was shed for me.” It’s interesting to me when you hear preachers and evangelists oftentimes they’ll say, repent of sin and they’ll define that as turning from your sin. And then they give the invitation for someone to become saved. And while they have said, turn from sin, they have their choir singing, just as I am I come. Without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me, it seems like here they are absolutely saying the opposite things.
The preacher is saying, turn from sin. And then the choir says, no, don’t listen to the preacher. We’re saying, come just as you are. And then the preacher comes back and says, no, don’t listen to the choir. You have to turn from your sin and the choir comes back with another stanza of just as I am I come. Don’t listen to the preacher. And so does anybody do any thinking anymore today? Do they not pay attention? You know, if you had to turn from your sin to be saved, don’t you think the choir ought to sing something that would reinforce that?
Maybe they could sing something like I could probably write the tune, turn, turn, turn, right now, turn or burn for sake or bake, toil or boil, and all the things I used to hear as a little boy. It’s interesting that turning from sin does not save you, and the Bible doesn’t teach that you’re to turn from sin to be saved. They get it wrong. Before you’re saved, you don’t have the power to have victory over sin. after you get saved, that the Holy Spirit comes in to dwell in your body and gives you the power to have victory over sin in your life.
I’ll never forget a lady who came into my church one day and she said, Pastor, I’m going to help. I said, Why? She says, because I haven’t turned from my sin. And I said, What do you mean? She says, Well, I’ve been smoking for 30 years and I have not been able to stop smoking. Therefore I am going to go to hell.” And I said, guess what? I said, nobody goes to hell because of smoking. I said, people in hell will smoke.
The Bible says the smoke of their torment will send up forever and ever, but people don’t go to hell because they smoke when they’re in hell because they’ll be in flame and fire forever and ever. But your smoking doesn’t send you to hell. She says, but I haven’t turned for my sin. I haven’t repented. Then I said again, wrong answer, because you’ve been mistaught. The Greek word is metanoia, and in order to be saved, you must change your mind about how to be saved and about who Jesus Christ is and about how sin is paid for, but it never means turn from sin.
You’ll not find one time where the word repent of sin occurs. And you know, she trusted Jesus as her Savior. Every weeks later she came back to me and she said, guess what, pastor? And I said, what? She says, I don’t smoke anymore. She says, God just took it away. You see, the power to have victory over sin comes after you’re saved, not as a means of being saved. You know, when the Bible teaches repentance in the book of Acts, almost every time it is a change of mind about who…
The book of Acts in 2.38 it says, Repent Peter said, but if you read the message Peter had preached to the very leaders of Israel that had been guilty of crucifying Christ. Then Peter points out that Christ came back from the dead and uses the Old Testament and lays the case that Jesus Christ was indeed the Messiah and that he was God who came and took on human flesh. And he says in verse 36 of Acts 2, which is a favorite verse of mine, he says, therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God have made that same Jesus, which one, the one whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
That means he’s Lord, he’s God, and he’s Christ, or he’s the Messiah. The word Christ is the Greek equivalent to the Hebrew Messiah. And they said, what should we do? They were pricked in her hearts and at the message of Peter, and Peter said, Repent. In other words, change your mind. You made a mistake. You crucified the Lord of glory. You crucified the Messiah. You crucified the Savior. And he points it out so well from Scripture that Jesus Christ was indeed that Savior.
And they said, What should we do? And Peter said, Repent, change Change your mind. Change your mind. And 3,000 people there did change your mind. 3,000 Jews. There are probably many of which participated in the condemning of Christ and causing him to go to the cross. They changed their mind and they became saved. And if you read through the book of Acts again and again the word repent is used, but it means in every case a change of mind.
You know I didn’t know much about repentance the night I got saved, but afterward in reflection I repented about a number of things. You know, the night I got saved, for the first time, I learned that Jesus Christ, according to the scripture, was God in a human body. I never learned that in my church. And I remember that was one of the things I changed my mind about. I said, well, wow, if Jesus Christ is God, no wonder he could save me.
No wonder he could save everybody on the planet. If he’s God, he could do those things. And it made perfect sense and the Bible clearly taught that Jesus Christ was God and I changed my mind about that. I was always raised to believe that salvation was by works. That there was a great big scale one day that they would roll out and as a person who is dead standing before God, your works would be read out of a book good and bad and you’d see weights being applied to a scale and you’d hope that you had more good works than bad work so that the scale would tip in your favor and you’d get to go to heaven.
That was my impression. I learned from the Bible that my salvation had nothing to do with my works, that according to Ephesians 2-9 it’s not of works, lest any man should boast or brag. So it’s not of myself, it’s not of works, it’s God’s gift that he offers completely free to all those that trust Christ the Savior. And I’ll never forget I changed my mind about salvation being by works and recognize the According to the Bible, it was not by my works.
It was by the finished work of Christ at Calvary that I would be saved. And you know, I realize I repented. In fact, if you can understand this next phrase, you’ll understand all about repentance. You can repent without believing. But you cannot believe without repenting. What in the world did I just say? Well you can repent without believing. You can change your mind about God, about Christ, about salvation, whatever it might be, and yet not trust Christ, not believe.
But you cannot believe or trust Christ without having repented, without having changed your mind. Whatever you trust Christ, you do obviously change your mind from whatever you were previously trusting in to trusting in Christ. That’s repentance. Dr. Schofield, a thousand years ago, but in the Schofield Reference Bible that came out of 1909 in the first edition, it says in the footnote on repentance, that repentance comes from the Greek word metanoia. It means a change of mind. And he says, saving faith includes and implies that change of mind which is called repentance.
In other words, when you place your trust in Christ, you do as a part of doing that, change your mind in the process and trust Christ as Savior. Some people say that if you don’t preach repentance or use the word repentance, the person you’re talking to can’t be saved. Well that’s craziness. The Gospel of John is considered by many as God’s gospel track. people actually just give out gospels of John expecting that people can get saved. Do you know how many times the word repent?
Or repentance occurs in the Gospel of John. Are you ready for this? The answer is zero. Z-E-R-O, zero times. It doesn’t occur even once. Does that mean that all the people that read the Gospel of John are deceived? That part of the planet’s salvation is left out? No! You know, repentance is implied everywhere. Nicodemus in chapter 3, when he came to Jesus by night, was told that he had to be born again. and that salvation was by simply trusting Christ.
So Nicodemus obviously had to change his mind and simply trust Christ to be saved in order to be saved. The woman at the well in John 4 is told that Jesus is the Messiah, that he would offer water, that if she drank of that she’d never thirst again. She changed her mind about salvation and how it was obtained, it was through Christ and she got saved. Repentance is implied, it’s a change of mind, But the word repent does not even occur.
Isn’t that amazing? I think so much of our teaching today doesn’t really go back to the roots, to the Bible. And I was misled for the first 18 years of my life because I was told that repent meant to turn from sin. I would hear the accompanying phrases that you’d had to turn or burn, toil or boil, forsake or bake, and all these different phrases. And my friend, none of that is true. We simply come as we are. The hymn writer got it right.
Just as I am, I come without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me. When you trust Christ, then God gives you the Holy Spirit in you. Then you have the power to be able to have victory over sin. I hope that you have trusted Christ as your only hope of heaven. I’m Dr. Englund from this is Bibleline. It’s Wednesday. We’re gonna go now to our phone lines and take the callers. you can call in at one eight hundred five seven six three seven seven one one eight hundred five seven six three seven seven one we have herald in st petersberg and herald your first up and welcome to my plan herald your own ear herald hello you’re on the air uh…
yes i’m here good talk what do you have a question or what Yes, I have a question doctor. Hey, yes, I was great. I’m sorry go ahead. I was reading in the book of Genesis very first Where says God and there was light and we according to the scripture He really didn’t create the fun in the moon until the fourth day now was he separating good?
Okay, and we’ll now hang up and listen to your answer Okay Harold, that’s a good question. A lot of people have gotten confused on that. And in Genesis 1-1, when God created the heavens and the earth, obviously He created a light, He created the sun. There was a judgment upon the earth in verse 2 that I believe occurred when Satan tried to overthrow heaven as all the angels lived on the original earth along with plants, animals, dinosaurs and so on.
And then God judged this earth and it became in darkness. And then it was later probably just 6,000 years ago that God let light shine down upon the earth again. And that was in Genesis 1-3. And what you read about in the seven days of what I call the re-creative week, because the earth was originally created maybe billions of years ago. I don’t know how far back, but a long time ago when God created the universe, whenever that was.
And then for millions and millions of years, probably billions of years, the earth had life. And that life was destroyed in verse 2, and darkness came upon the face of the earth. But rather recently, God the Holy Spirit according to verse 2, incubated the earth. The word moved upon the face of the waters. The word moved there means to brood upon her, to incubate. And God warmed up the earth from the ice ages and prepared it for life. And in seven days he puts life on the earth again and he allows light to shine down upon the earth again for the first time about 6,000 years ago that’s on day one.
It wasn’t until the fourth day that the cloud cover cleared sufficiently that the actual sun and moon and stars could be seen. And so they appeared then to be in our atmosphere from the fourth day. You’ll notice that the word created is used very sparingly. On the fourth day, it doesn’t say he created the sun and the moon. Read very carefully. It says that on the fourth day that God made two great lights, the greater light to rule the day, the lesser light to rule the night.
The word made doesn’t mean the same thing as created. The word made also is translated to ordain or to appoint. Here we have the newly appointed purpose of the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars in relationship to the Earth that God brought. life upon in the six days of the recreated week. And it says here, the purpose for which they were appointed, in verse 16 of chapter 1 of Genesis, and God made or pointed or dained two great lights, the greater to rule, that’s the purpose, to rule the day, the lesser light, the moon, to rule the night he made or appointed the stars also, and so on and so on.
So there was no creation of the sun and moon in the fourth day. the sun. The sun, the moon, the stars, the planets, the earth, the universe was all created in verse 1 in eternity past. We find that God then brought death upon this planet and killed all life when Satan attempted his rebellion. Then we find that light was allowed to shine on the earth again rather recently, probably six thousand years ago, and on the fourth day of that recreated week he allows the objects, the sources of the light to shine down upon the earth again.
Hopefully that helps you. There was no creation there. The word created only is these three times in Genesis 1 of the original creation in verse One of air-breathing animals and mammals on the fifth day, and then of man on the sixth day. That’s it three times. So it was of the original creation of the universe in verse one. And then on the recreated week, he recreated the animals that had been destroyed that breathed there. And that was in the sea and on the earth that breathed there.
He recreated those on the sixth day he created man. That’s the only time the word created was used. He did not use the word created for the sun and the moon. Thank you Harold and St. Petersburg. Deborah calls in from safety harbor and she says on Thursday I think I heard Dr. Lindstrom say that there were 12 apostles. Was there only 11 since Judas betrayed Jesus? Well there were 12 original apostles and Judas betrayed Christ and then the Lord.
later committed suicide and needed to be replaced. We believe that God replaced Judas with Paul. That Paul became the next apostle to make the number 12 again. And you’ll read through the Gospels rather through the epistles of Paul and all of them he easily begins by saying that he was an apostle that God had selected. In Galatians in particular he says I am an apostle, not of them neither by man, but by Jesus Christ himself that Jesus had selected him.
We know that God did that after the resurrection, but He became the 12th apostle to add to the 11th that made 12th. I hope that helps. There are 12 apostles and Paul now has become the 12th one to replace Judas. We have Dwight in Pensacola, Florida. He calls in and leaves this off our question. There’s only one recorded account of Abraham tithing. That’s when he went to war for his nephew Lot and he tied the spoles of war, not of his personal property.
How does that account for all of us to tithe? Well it doesn’t. And tithing really wasn’t an obligation or a law until the law was given at Mount Sinai. It was simply a free will choice on his part and he decided he would give a tithe. That’s in Genesis chapter 14. But in the New Testament we’re not under the law to tithe, but rather we’re under grace. The Bible says that every one of you, purpose in his heart as God hath prospered him, let so let him give.
So we should give a percentage. We should make a deliberate decision about how much we give and as we give we are to give regularly and faithfully but there is no law that says for us in the New Testament to give 10 percent. But certainly 10 percent is a good number and somebody once said should we give less under grace than we did under law. The New Testament says that God doesn’t want us to give of necessity or be grudgingly but to give from the heart or give hilariously.
And that certainly is true. Aaron, indeed City, Florida calls in and he leaves this question. I’m struggling with Isaiah 45-7 and it says, does God create evil? And the answer is… The word is not really evil there. It means the consequences for evil. And if you have a Scofield, it’s so helpful. It says the Hebrew word is translated sorrow, wretchedness, adversity, afflictions, calamities, but never translated sin. God created evil only in the sense that He made sorrow, wretchedness, etc.
to be the sure fruits of sin. So that’s what it’s talking about. He didn’t create evil. God is not the author of evil Satan is, but he does create consequences for sin. And that’s what it’s talking about there in Isaiah 45 7. Thank you Aaron for calling in from Dade City. We have to go to break believe it or not time is just elapsed. But we’ll be back for a second half hour of Bible on and we hope that you’ll be joining us for that second half hour.

We got a number of people calling in. The phone number is 1-800-576-3771. We also have quite a few off-air questions and we hope to get to those as quickly as we can.
We’re going to first go to the live lines. We have Sylvester in Brandon, Florida. And Sylvester, welcome to Bibleline you are on the air. Yeah, this is Sylvester, Penny from Brandon. Yes, sir. regards to answer that you gave to a question about the 12th apostle. And according to what I’ve been reading, Acts 1 26, my past was the replacement for Judah says it’s well for apostle, am I correct? You are correct that Peter did that. I believe Peter was out of water though.
If you read Acts 1 5, Jesus told Peter to wait and the other disciples to wait until the Holy Spirit came and they were not to conduct business. But Peter was antsy and he says, We can’t just waste these ten days and he stood up and said we men and brethren we have to elect somebody I think he’s totally out of order. That’s the last time you ever read about Matthias. He must have been a wonderful guy I would have loved of met him, but he goes right off the scene and then Paul The rest of his ministry has to defend his apostleship and it’s interesting He must be referring to that election that I think was out of order and not in God’s plan in Galatians 1 in particular where he says, I’m an apostle, not of men, neither by man.
I think he’s referred to what Peter did. That was a man’s election. And he says, I was elected by Jesus himself. And if you read all the epistles, he had to defend his ministry and his apostleship all in every pistol. He’s always defending it because of what Peter did. I think Peter was out of order. He should have just sat and waited like God told him to do, but some Christians can’t wait. Peter was one of the men. I think that that was a mistake and it cost a lot of grief for Paul, always having to say, I wasn’t elected by men and the election of men was not the one that counts.
It’s the election of God. Okay. I’ll see what you’re saying. You’re saying that Jesus didn’t know it considered the 12th of the past. Exactly. And you know, it was kind of a crazy election. You know, Peter brought it down to two men. He says, I want you to know to choose between two and they drew straws. It was like a lotto between the two. So it didn’t seem like a real fair election. And it was by men totally. And you never read about Matthias again.
That was the end of him. And it was not until God then elected Peter. I mean Paul to replace Judas that we had the twelfth apostle again. Thank you Dr. Hank Lindstrom. You’re welcome. That’s a good point you make and a lot of people read that about that and again the confusion reigns and it reigns through the whole ministry of Paul. If you read every one of his epistles, he spends two full chapters defending his apostleship in Corinthians. He’s going over all the different experiences he had and revelations he’s had and pointing out that he was chosen of God, Matthias.
That was a dead and Street he didn’t. He didn’t go anywhere. We now have Jane in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Jane, welcome to Bibleline Year on the Year. Hi Dr. Hank. Hey, good morning. I was recently in Israel and after talking with several Orthodox Jewish men, the question came up of the divinity of Jesus. They really questioned the validity of being able to be a believer in Yeshua since He claimed to be. Can you maybe discuss some of the passages in the talk that would address the divinity of Jesus and also the Trinity?
All right. We’ll talk about that. Thank you, Lane, for calling in. Back, of course, in Isaiah, you have a couple of great ones. Isaiah 714 says, therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Immanuel is an untranslated Hebrew word that means God dwelling with you or God with you. Jesus Christ is Immanuel. That’s used in Matthew chapter 1 where the Lord told Joseph that the child that Mary was carrying would be this one born of a virgin that would be Emmanuel.
Isaiah 9-6, another powerful one, says unto you a child is born unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder. His name shall be called wonderful counselor. Notice his next name, the mighty God. He may have the next name, the everlasting Father, and the next name, the Prince of Peace. So this one would be God. He would be the everlasting Father. The wonderful prophecy in Micah is that he be born in Bethlehem, but this one who would be ruler in Israel, who is going for the bin from a old, even from everlasting.
Only God is from everlasting, so the Messiah would be obviously God in flesh. But if you want to go back to the first five books of the Bible, to the books of Moses, I love the story in Genesis chapter 22 where we have here Abraham in acting out the gospel story and there you have Abraham a picture of God and Isaac a picture of Jesus and we find that Abraham offers up his only son and and and he’s his only begotten son and the same is true of God who Begot a son, which is the Lord Jesus Christ referring to the flesh that God took upon himself and here Abraham offers up his son But it’s interesting, the conversation is Isaac and Abraham are headed toward the place of sacrifice that he says to his father, Behold the fire and the wood in Genesis 22.7.
But where’s the lamb? Daddy, where’s the lamb? I believe, of course, Isaac was an adult at this time, probably 33 years of age. I think if he is a perfect type of Jesus, he would probably be 33 at this time when he’s offered up. It says here, but where is the lamb for burnt offering? Verse 8 has the answer here. Abraham said, my son, God will provide himself a lamb for burnt offering. There’s a double meaning there, lame, and it says here, my son, God will provide himself.
So God himself becomes the offering. And that’s exactly what it’s saying. Also he would provide of course a substitute and that became the ram that was caught in a thicket that took the place of Isaac. And Isaac was then delivered from this penalty of death that he was going to undergo a picture of how we’re redeemed by the substitute sacrifice of Christ as he substituted himself in our place and paid our sin debt in full at the cross. So this is a good one on I think the deity of Christ because in Genesis 22 8 it says, as Abraham said, my son God will provide himself a lamb.
He is the lamb. God is the lamb who took on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. Oh, a blame that helps. And that was Lane in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We now have James in Largo, Florida and James, welcome to the pipeline. You’re on the air. Yes. Thank you for taking my call. In the book of Job, then God sons in the book of Job when they present themselves to our God. Those were not angels. The scene is on earth.
First of all, it’s clear in the context that the scene was on the earth. The believers were coming together, Job’s sons in particular, to worship the Lord. And in the Old Testament, there would always be a particular place where they would come to worship. worship. Even back in Genesis with Cain and Abel, they brought a sacrifice before the Lord. So there was a particular place where they were to come to bring their sacrifice. And of course, Abel’s was accepted and Cain’s was rejected.
But here the believers were coming together and the sons of God is a phrase referring to believers. In John 1.12, it says to as many as received Christ, to them God gave power to become authority to become the sons of God. So these were believers coming to worship and Satan comes along and is observing what’s taking place here and God intercepts him and talks to him and says, Satan, where did you come from? And he said from roaming to and fro up and down in the earth.
So it was on the earth. And I was talking about believers. It’s never talking about angels. Now to prove that, I always go to Hebrews 1, 5. This one completely, I think, destroys the argument that these were angels because in Hebrews 1 5 it says that God never called an angel his son. So if you can just lay your weight on that one, Hebrews 1 5 God never called an angel his son. Okay one more question I got and then because you keep saying that in the beginning God created the world and then there’s like a gap in between Genesis like a million year gap where God destroyed the world.
Yeah I think that there were as a longer gap than that. The earth was around for a long time. Isaiah 4518 says that when God created the earth, there’s that sparingly used word created. It says He created it perfect, He created it inhabited. So when the earth was originally created, it was created perfect and inhabited. It wasn’t created void. Also Isaiah 45, 18 says he did not create it vain. The word vain and the word void in Genesis 1, 2 are the same Hebrew word.
So he’s saying he did not create it void as Genesis 1, 2 describes how it became. So he created it not void, but he created it perfect and inhabited. We believe it was in having with plants and animals. I think the fossils today are the fossils from that original earth. We have fossilized plant life that is coal today and we have the fossilized animal life which is petroleum. We call that fossil fuel because those are the fossils. Notice where it is trapped.
There is very little life in the Middle East. The whole area is desert. I have been to many of those Middle Eastern countries and there is more sand and rock than you’d ever want to see in your whole lifetime. But underneath that sand is the richest deposits of oil in all the world. And so there was a lot of animal life that was trapped there in the Middle East underneath that sand that today the world was ready to go to war over and it’s a part of that original earth.
Then if you look at NASA and what they say, NASA says that life on this This planet was destroyed 65 million years ago when asteroid about 125 mile diameter or 150 mile diameter struck the planet earth in the area of the Akadim peninsula. You can see that circular area on your map. They say that it threw up so much debris that the sun’s light was cut off from the earth for millions of years. So it wasn’t till later when God cleared that up so that he said let there be light up on the earth again after that long judgment where life was destroyed.
And then it seems pretty clear that the seven days were a re-creative week where he makes the earth livable again and puts man on the planet. And it seems to make a lot of sense. You know those who teach that it all happened just in the six days, when did Satan fall? When did he get his title, the God of this world? all the other theological questions why was he motivated to be in the garden call out of the cause Adam and Eve to sin it was because he was the previous guy of this world and he was jealous and he was uh…
he was bound and determined to get Adam and Eve to come under God’s curse as well and he was pretty successful the reason why I was acting that because in the Bible it says that death came through Adam There’s no way in the Bible it says death came prior to it. But people don’t read that very closely. It’s in Romans 5-12 that you’re referring to. It says death passed upon man because of Adam. And it doesn’t say there was no death prior to Adam.
It says death passed upon man because of Adam. So there was death but not on humans because of thoseCAWL Adam. Oh okay, well thank you. Now people don’t read their Bible very carefully and a lot of people bring that verse up and they don’t read it carefully and they say there was no death before Adam and it doesn’t say that. It says that death passed upon men, all men, because of the sin of Adam and just not a careful reading of their Bible.
We have Anthony in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Anthony, thanks for calling in. clear question for us. By the way, if you want to call in and get live on the air with us, it’s 1-800-576-3771. 1-800-576-3771. We have Anthony and Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he says, what type of faith is required in salvation? The word faith means trust. And there’s only Only one object of that trust, and that’s Jesus Christ is Savior. Acts 4, 12, Peter says, neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.
So you must trust Jesus that he died and shed his blood and paid your sin debt and full was buried in rose again from the dead. That is the gospel. And when you place your faith or belief or trust in Christ and the gospel message, then God saves you. Anthony goes on to say, only belief in Jesus, slash God, or a living faith in Jesus. I’m not too sure what this living faith is, but I think you might be talking about a continuance.
The Bible tells us we’re saved by an act of faith at an instant of time. If you read John 524, one of numerous verses we could cite, it says in John 524, Verily I say unto you, He the Believeth on him that sent me, Number 1 has everlasting life. Number 2 shall not come into condemnation. Number 3 is passed from death and the life. So the new birth and being passed from death and the life occurs at the instant of belief.
It’s not a continual hanging on and keep on believing, keep on, keep the faith. That’s nonsense. The moment, the instant you trust Christ, at that moment you are saved. John 3 16, I got it, the night I got saved, I was 18. And I noticed in John 3 16 it said, who so ever believe it in Him in Christ? That’s the kind of faith you have to have. not perish, but have, have as a present tense verb you would have everlasting life.
I received everlasting life that night as a teenager at eighteen years of age when I trusted Christ, I was as saved at that moment as I would ever be saved. In other words, I could never from that moment on become more saved, I could never from that moment on become less saved I was as saved as I would ever be from the moment I trusted Christ forward. So in other words, you’re instant of time by an act of faith and Anthony, I hope that helps and if not, call back and we’ll go at it again.
But that was Anthony in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We have Lewis in Plant City and Lewis, welcome to Bibleline you are on the air. Hello? Hi Yes, you’re on the earth. Hi. I overheard a gentleman prior talking about the existence of the earth. I overheard you talking about some kind of meteorite and you spoke about death through Adam. My question is, how long have we been in existence? How long has the earth been in existence and was there? was there prior to us on our throughout?
Well the answer is that the earth has been around since the creation. In verse 1, in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. So the earth was created when God created the universe however long ago that was. Probably I don’t doubt that was billions of years ago. The Bible doesn’t set a date on that. But then it goes on to say the earth became, the verb there should read, became without form and void and darkness was on the face of the steep, that was because of a judgment that occurred.
Maybe if NASA’s right, when life was destroyed 65 million years ago when this asteroid struck the planet Earth in the area that you could end peninsula. But then it says, and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. If you look up that word moved in the Hebrew, it means to incubate or to brood upon. So apparently God warmed up the Earth and made it inhabitable again by the Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, a thawing the earth out from the ice ages, and just maybe 6,000 years ago, God in six days, in the seventh day he rested, makes the earth inhabitable again, and he doesn’t create plant life.
If you read what happened on day three, plant life came forth from seed that was already here on the earth from the original creation. And it wasn’t till the fifth day that he does create life that breathed air that was killed when that apparently asteroids struck the earth. And then on the sixth day he creates man and then God rests on the seventh day and we’ve been around ever since. Peter, if you read 2 Peter chapter 3, Peter talks about a former earth that was destroyed.
He talks about a present earth that will continue until after the thousand year reign of Christ when it will be destroyed by fire and then talks about a future heaven and earth that will be after the millennial kingdom that Christ will set up here on this earth which we believe that we’re getting pretty close to that. The rapture happens next then seven years of fibrillation then Christ will establish his thousand year kingdom. So hopefully that gives you a little explanation there.
It does. It does be the only thing, the only question too that I have is you spoke about an asteroid, but you’re, where is scripture that mentioned anything about the asteroid? It doesn’t. It simply says that God judged this earth and it became void without form. If you read Jeremiah chapter 4, Jeremiah was caught back into the past and he says, lo and behold the earth and it was without form and void. He saw the judgment that occurred and if you read the following verses he talks about that animal life was destroyed.
He says during those days there was no human life on the planet and he also talks about cities being destroyed and I believe those were angelic cities that were destroyed at the presence of God and we don’t know of any other event in history that would match up and it describes that original judgment upon the earth that we’re talking about in Genesis 1 2 read Jeremiah chapter 4 their numerous other passages I have some CDs where I talk about all this and cover a lot of passages you can call the operator and ask for the creation CD I think I’ll find it very interesting for gift of five dollars.
Okay thank you so much Dr. Linden you know you really are very insightful very upland may God bless you ministry. Thanks a lot that’s Lewis in Plant City, Florida and if anybody wants to know more we have some articles I’ve written plus I have some CDs for five dollars it’ll really just go through a nice sweep of the Old Testament comments on the original earth and the destruction of it and the present earth that we’re now living on that is discussed in numerous places in the Bible.
We now have Adam in Tampa, Florida. Adam, welcome to Bible Life. Yeah, my question is to do with what you were talking about via popular book Well, there were other books written and you read in the Old Testament about other books that are not a part of the Apocryphal books and the book of Enoch is certainly not a part of the Apocryphal books We don’t have that book anymore but the the the books that you and I have the 66 books have then accepted as being the word of God from the get-go by the the authenticated spokespersons that wrote them, the prophets in the Old Testament and the apostles in the New Testament.
The Old Testament was sealed about 500 years before Christ completed. All 39 books that you and I have today are the same ones. Since the Catholics added to that 39, they have violated the whole order of structure by adding books that were not written by prophets and they added them 2000 years after they should have been accepted if they truly were the word of God. So that’s just nonsense. The 27 books of the New Testament were written by apostles and they all were accepted as they were written as scripture.
Peter talks in 2 Peter chapter 3 about how Paul’s writings were scripture and so on and so on. I have to run. We are out of time here. If you haven’t trusted Christ, You need to save ward on the center. The Bible is the only hope of heaven that his death and shed blood alone could purchase your eternal life.
