Thanks for tuning into the broadcast. We look forward to being with you every day and I look forward to bringing this program to you and thank you for tuning in.
We appreciate all of you. We’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios here at the Calvary Community Church where I’m the pastor. We’d love to get to meet you. If you ever get a chance to come by, please do. We’re right next to the Tampa International Airport, making us easy to find. So if you’re ever in the area, take that extra minute and come by and knock on our door and say, hi, our resource center is open every day until about 4.30 in the afternoon.
You can always come by on a worship day and we’d love to have you do that. The third Sunday of this month will be a dinner day as it normally is, and you can come and be my guest. Come at 10.30, join the service and then stay for dinner. And we’re saying this because we’re also having a baptism that day. If you have not been water baptized since you have been saved, you ought to. If you don’t have a church to be baptized in, you can join us in our service.
It will be in the lake just north of Bible and headquarters here. It will be a beautiful outdoor baptism, which is what I love to do. We invite you to come and be a part of that baptismal service on the 21st of October. Take it a day. Come and join us for the 1030 Worship. Stay for the luncheon. Be my guest. And then you can get in on the baptism service at 3 in the afternoon at a lake very close here to the Calbreak Community Church.
Good to be with you. We have just finished teaching the Gospel of John. It was 18 classes and each of those were a little over an hour. So there’s almost 20 hours of teaching. If you were to get the CDs. We broke it into two halves. We broke it into part one, which is nine CDs, and then part two, nine CDs. They’re in a nice book-like container cassette holder that keeps them organized, looks nice on your shelf, and we’ll keep those CDs from flying all around your car when you’re driving and keep them organized, and we hope you’ll take advantage.
This is a verse-by-verse exposition of the gospel of John, one of the most significant New Testament books, one where certainly every believer probably ought to begin in their study of the Bible. Once you grasp the major truths in John’s Gospel, you’ll be able to move on to other parts of the Bible. That’s what I recommend. And we hope that you’ll maybe order that. So we also have it available in DVD. That means audio and video for just a little bit more.
So if you were to get the complete John series on CD, that would be a gift of $100 to Bible, and you can do it in two parts, 50 and 50 and get it in increments. And that’s almost 20 hours of teaching because if you consider that each class was about 65 minutes long, you add that extra 5 minutes times 18 hours of teaching. That’s almost 10 minutes short of 2 more hours. That’s 20 hours of teaching on John, and I think you’ll find it great.
The DVD series is not much more, a gift of $150. You get all 20 hours of teaching on John with audio and video. So that’s something you might consider. We have lots of resources so you can get a resource sheet sent out to you or go online to Bibleline ministries and take a look at all the things that we have there. We’re going to get on into the Bible and then we’ll be answering questions if you’d like to call in.
Welcome to Dallas Up at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Well, look for your call, and if you have an offer question, you can leave it off here, or you can get on hold and go out on the air with us in just a minute. We’ve been talking a little bit about repent. It seems like the majority of the Christian community gets repent wrong. I believe that’s because they look at their English dictionary and they don’t look up the original words. We have the Strong’s Concordance in our resource center which is excellent.
You can buy a simple number code system and have access to the scholarship of 200 Hebrew and Greek scholars who put this together with a number code system, you can look up the original word, what it meant, how it’s translated and so on, throughout the whole Bible it has a re-D, every thou of a and every butt, every shout. I mean every word is there. You can easily find a verse that you’ve been looking for if you just know one word in that verse.
That word when you look it up is it partially quotes every verse in the Bible where that word occurs. So you just scan down and you’ll find that verse that you’ve been wanting. Where is that verse? And you’ll find that. And if you want to look up the original word you can, well, it indicates the original word for repent is metanoia in the New Testament. The Greek word is metum, which means change. Noia means mine. And it means a change of mind.
It does not mean turn from sin. It does not mean sorrow for sin. And yet most churches and most people have been taught wrong so long that they may be tend to be turned from sin as the definition and that is certainly not true. If you had to turn from sin to be saved, that would add an element of human work or human merit to the plant consolidation which would be in total violation of so many great verses in the New Testament that teaches salvation has nothing to do with something of ourselves or of works, it says in Ephesians 2 8, by grace, by mercy, on merited favor, are you saved through faith in the next phrases, and that none of yourselves does involve even the wiggling of your little finger.
Nothing. And then it says in verse 9, not of works, lest any man should boast or brag. And generally though, preachers will say you have to turn from your sin prior to your getting saved. What does it say in John 3 16? Think about for just a moment. It says, For God so loved those who turn from their sin. Is that what it says? Well, it doesn’t. It says, For God so loved the world, that’s every human. And the Bible says that He loves us in spite of our sin.
He hates our sin, but loves us. And in spite of our sin, He loved us, and He died and paid for our sin by His own life being offered up in His blood being shed as a complete payment for our sin. The hymn writer wrote, Just as I am I come, and without one plea, but that by blood was shed for me. The hymn writer had it right. The preacher has it wrong. He tells his congregation, you have to turn from your sin to be saved.
There’s many that teach us wrong. There are national groups that make a big point of taking repent and giving the definition of turn from your sin and telling people that they have to turn from their sin to be saved, which works. That means salvation is of you. And certainly nobody, if it means that you have to turn from sin, how much do you turn from? It’s impossible, according to the Bible, for anyone to completely stop sinning. So what does that mean?
I’ll never forget years ago I heard a Bible college up in the Smoky Mountains advertising that they were 20 miles from any known sin. I had to laugh. I said, oh my goodness, 20 miles from any known sin. Well, obviously, if there was any human on the campus, they were, they had sin in their presence. The Bible says in Romans 3, 23, for all have sinned and all have come short of the glory of God. Who on this planet does not sin?
And even after we become believers, we find John the Apostle writes 60 years after he becomes saved minimum of 60 years after he was saved. It was written around 8096 somewhere there in 1893. He got saved probably around 8027 Christ. We believe was crucified around 8030. So if you go from 8027 to 8090, that would be 63 years all by itself. John is a Christian enough for a long time. And he says in first aid of John 1 John, if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
So every A person on this planet is a sinner. And even after you’re saved, you still have that old nature with you until the day you die. And so although we can have big fear of our sin, we could never live sin free. And to try to tell someone that they have to stop sinning or turn from sin is impossible. How do we turn from it when the nature that we have abides within us, a sinful nature, that is the source of our sin?
You know in Jeremiah 17 9 it says the heart, the mind, the soul, the real you is desperately wicked. It says there it’s deceitful above all things. Read that verse. Jeremiah 17 9, whatever it says the heart or the mind or the old nature, the real you is desperately wicked and deceitful above all things. So clearly we’re all in a bad way. Why we need a Savior. Thank God Jesus Christ came and paid for all of our sins past, present and future by His death on the cross of Calvary.
Isn’t that wonderful? It really is. The best news that anyone is ever going to hear in this world. And so the real meaning of repent is a change of mind. And I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If you can understand this next phrase that I’m going to give you, you’ll understand the teaching of the Bible on repentance. And that is you can repent without believing, but you cannot believe without repenting. What does that mean? Well, you can repent or change your mind about Christ, about salvation, about whatever you need to change your mind about as you come to the point where you need to trust Christ and yet not believe, not trust Christ, but you cannot believe or trust Christ without having repented, without having changed your mind.
So in other words, saving faith includes and implies that change of mind, which is called repentance. The night I got saved, I knew nothing about the doctrine of repentance. I didn’t know a thing. I simply trusted Christ as my Savior, but as I looked back and as I reflect upon that moment, I had changed my mind about a number of things that night. I had never been taught in my church that Jesus Christ was God. I saw it in Scripture that God came and took on human flesh, that Jesus was God in flesh, and I changed my mind about that.
I recented. That is the meaning of the Greek word. I also had been taught all of my life that salvation was based on works and by changing my life, my reforming my life, and by changing up everything I was doing, and that if I I could keep on working at it one day I would eventually earn heaven. I found out in Ephesians 2 9 salvation was not of work so if any man should boast I changed my mind about that.
So as I reflect backward to the event when I trusted Christ I did repent about a number of things but it wasn’t a conscious thing that I was thinking about. I simply changed my mind from whatever I had previously been trusting in to trusting in Jesus the Savior that he died and shed his blood and paid my sin debt and fall was buried and rose again from the dead. That’s biblical repentance and the Bible tells us that you repent when you believe it’s included.
That’s obvious when you think about the Gospel of John. This wonderful book that is oftentimes said by some to be a gospel track that you can print up copies of the Gospel of John hand about and expect that people can read it and get saved. Isn’t that wonderful? And you know, guess what? How many times does repent occur in the Gospel of John? Are you ready for this? Zero. None. Absolutely none. The word repent, repentance does not occur in the Gospel of John.
Does that mean that Jesus left out part of the plan of salvation when he talked to Nicodemus in chapter 3? Of course He told Nicodemus that he had to be born again, told him how to be born again by trusting Christ that he was the son of God who died and paid for sin, was buried in rose again from the dead. That if he would believe or trust in Christ, he would not perish, but he’d have eternal life. John 3 16 was really addressed to Nicodemus.
And Nicodemus did trust Christ, and therefore he did repent from whatever he was previously trusting, and he changed his mind, recognizing that what he had been doing to be saved would not save him. He simply trusted in Christ. That’s biblical repentance. What about the woman in John 4, the woman at the well? Christ didn’t use the word repent with her, but it’s obvious that what she had been trusting in would not save her. She put her trust in Jesus as being the Messiah, the Savior.
She got saved right there on the spot out by that well where she had gone to draw water. and christ gave her water that she would never thirst again of the water of eternal life that is offered completely free It says in Revelation chapter 22 verse 17, and whosoever will let him come and take of the water of life freely. It’s offered completely free, and there’s no strings attached. You don’t have to join or climb or promise or stop or do anything, but simply trust in what Jesus Christ has finished for you at the cross.
So tragically, a lot of people are given a false message when they are told that they have to turn from their sin and the phrase Repent of Sin is used and is wrongly defined. That phrase, by the way, quote Repent of Sin, unquote, does not even occur in your Bible or anybody else’s Bible. You would think it was everywhere. But it’s not there because it’s a phrase that’s wrong all by itself. There is no phrase like that. If you understand what the Greek word is, metanoia, M-E-T-A, metanoia, N-O-I-A means mind, metachange, change of mind, that’s all it means.
If you were to repent of sin, knowing now the true meaning of the Greek word, it would mean you’d change your mind about sin. What does that mean? Well I always was raised to believe sin was wrong. So if I repented of my sin, would all of a sudden say, wow, change my mind about sin. It must be wonderful, since I thought it was wrong. What have I missed? Of course, that’s not the way we need to go. But that’s really the craziness about this phrase, Repentness and I hope this is how clarify a little bit.
I trusted Christ and I had discovered later that I had repented, changed my mind about who Jesus is and what He had accomplished for me and how that I was not capable of saving myself that I had to trust in a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only way to heaven. I’m Dr. Inchlinstrum. This is Bible and we welcome all of you to the program today. We’re going to be now going to the phone lines. You’re welcome to call us at 1-800-576-3771.
That is 1-800-576-3771. So, if you would, please give us a call. And if you want to leave a question off here, you may, or you can go live up on the air with us. We’re going to go to James in Auburndale, Florida and James, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes, I think I question asked if kind of a hard one to ask, so if you could be patient, I would appreciate it. For the mind, ask me a question for Kane to send him the per-for example.
Is there anywhere in scripture if a woman… can she be able to terminate the pregnancy? And I was know any scripture right now other than choose life but I didn’t, I won’t take on this cause I’m not sure how to handle that. Well that’s a very difficult one and of course I don’t think there’s any verse in the Bible that would allow you to abort that child. And that’s obviously got to be a painful decision process for the person involved that they may want to because of the of the of the of the nightmarish experience that the person has gone through who’s been raped.
But yet I don’t believe that the Bible would condone taking another life, a life of that unborn child. So I don’t know of a verse that would allow it. I don’t think there is one. And I think that obviously the mother should carry that child. That’s not an easy answer because I know the ones involved definitely have a lot of mental anguish over the whole event. But they need to, I think, take a fresh look at the Bible and I don’t know of a verse that would allow for an abortion period.
Thank you. Thank you. Okay, that was James in Auburn, New York, Florida, and we’re now going to go to Joe in Land of Lakes, Florida. Joe, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Playing Second Corinthians 7-10. I can try. Second Corinthians 7-10. Mm-hmm. And I’m almost there. Hold on. I’m turning. I’m turning. And I just passed the first Corinthians, and I blew right my second Corinthians. Here I’m coming back. Hold on. Okay. 710 here says that Godly sorrow, worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of.
Here notice it’s saying here that Godly sorrow is not repentance, but it says that Godly sorrow worketh repentance. Not in every case, but it says it is one of the things that can bring about the change of mind to salvation. The word repentance there is the Greek word metanoia or metaneo. The next phrase there, erguson is in the Greek a different word entirely. It is A-meta. A in front of theus means atheist or no god. And A in front of meta means no change.
And this really is translated in other places as irrevocable. In other words, once you change your word entirely, it is A-meta. And this really is translated in other places as irrevocable. In other words, once you change your mind and receive the salvation God has offered, you’re stuck. It’s a great eternal security verse because it says here that God will not change his mind about the salvation that he has given to you. Let me give you another reference here. It’s Romans 11.29.
It should be preached on more often where it says the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. Again, it’s the Greek word of metaminitos and it means it’s irrevocable. It is something that God will not change his mind. Once God gives you eternal life, he doesn’t say, well, you know, if you behave and if you live correctly or properly, then I won’t change my mind. He says basically he will not change his mind, period. Salvation is the gift of God.
Once you receive it, you can’t get it undone. And so this is a great passage, by the way, Because there are three different Greek words translated repent and metamilitas only occurs twice. In this verse, it’s the phrase, the whole phrase, not to be repented of, is that one Greek word. And it means that once you change your mind, that’s methenoia, or metaneo, when you do change your mind, then to salvation, then that salvation cannot be undone because God will not change his mind concerning that.
Once he gives it to you, you have it forever. Now, can you explain Matthew 9, 13? I’m going to go over there. Hold on. I’m heading the other direction now. Matthew chapter 9, and I’m in chapter 4 and chapter 8. On chapter 9, verse what is it? Matthew 9, verse 13. 13, let me see here. I’m almost there. It says here in verse 13, in verse 13, go ye and learn what that meaneth, for I says I will have mercy and not sacrifice.
For I am not? No, no, no, no, no. Matthew 913. That’s where I think I am reading it. Let me just verse 13, oh see it says here, go ye and learn what that meaneth. Is that it? Is that the verse? Okay, unless I have it written down here, I have it down here in Matthew 913, it’s where I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repent. Well that’s the end of the verse, you didn’t let me get far enough.
So he was going to say, learn what this means, I will have mercy and not sacrifice for I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repent. And that means if you’re already righteous then you don’t need a Savior so he’s seeking the lost which says in many verses and he calls them to a change of mind. change of mind is to believe on Christ. When you read in John’s Gospel about the Holy Spirit convicting the world of sin, of righteousness and judgment, it says they are of sin because they believe not on me.
In other words, the sin that the Holy Spirit convicts the lost person of is the sin of unbelief. So Christ is calling the lost to change their mind from unbelief to belief and to trust Christ as their only means of salvation. So it has nothing to do with sin in any of these verses. I guess my question is, I understand clearly that he keeps their mind about who Christ is to get saved. And to believe you entrusted him to be saved, that changing of the mind is more than just a mental…
What do you mean is more than a mental consent? In other words, you sit and explain to someone. That’s what I just said. They can mentally make a change in their mind. You know, it’s almost like a formula. And salvation is not a formula. I mean, it’s just a formula. Let me go back to what I said earlier. I said earlier, and this helps understand the whole doctrine. You can repent without believing. So yes, you can change your mind, and however you want to define that.
And yet, not believe. The word believe means the trust. And that’s where you have to, we’re not talking about mental assent there. When you trust Christ, you are relying upon Him. You’re putting your confidence in Him as the only means of your salvation. But you cannot believe without repenting. In other words, when you do trust Christ, you do change your mind. So the word repent is someone who means to change your mind. You can make that change your mind without getting saved.
You can make that change your mind without trusting Christ. But you cannot believe or trust Christ without having changed your mind. So you have to separate these two things. They are separate, but yet… When you believe you do repent in the process because you change your mind from whatever you’re previously trusting in. But in order to be saved, we are not promising that we’re going to change or do anything. We are trusting in the finished work of Christ and relying totally upon what Christ did at the cross with by His death and dead blood that He paid our sin dead and full past present in the future.
Now when in the Bible and I don’t know where the verses stop lunch and what where it says that you know I think Christ wanted to know it was Christ the Apostles speaking to the crowd You know explain to them that they had to I guess to examine the call you know come to Christ You know that’s not that that passage you’re talking about is talking about discipleship He says except that you for sake all and follow me you cannot be my disciple doesn’t say you can’t be saved.
So discipleship is a second decision. You can be a believer and not be a disciple, but you can also be a disciple, not be a believer. Judas, for example, was a disciple, but he was never a believer. And Judas went to hell because he never trusted Christ. So you could be a disciple, a follower of Christ, and not be saved. And so to be a disciple, you have to count the cost, or you might start and then quit, which God doesn’t want you to do.
I’m out of time, we’re going to have to take this break if If you want to hold over for after the break you can, I’m Dr. Anker-Anchlinstrum. This is Bible and we’re going to go to break and come back into a second half hour. So keep your radio dial tuned right where it is and we’ll be right back. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. All right. I’m Dr.
Anchlinstrum and it’s great to be with you today. This is Tuesday. And we enjoy being with you all week long. We will invite all of you to listen every day. And you can always go to the internet and catch these programs again and again and again. You might want to do that. If you go to BibleLineMinistries.org or .com, you can click on the spinning globe and you’ll be able to catch the radio program 24-7. Not only today’s show, but you’ll be able to catch all the programs for the past year.
Isn’t that amazing? You can download them for your iPod. We have webcastings. It’s free. You just set it up and automatically send these programs to your computer and you can put them in your iPod and carry Bible out around with you. We have many people that tell us that they listen when they bike or when they hike and when they are at work or when they’re driving. they have downloaded the programs into their iPod and that’s a marvel of this modern technology.
You can also tell your friends around the world in other countries, relatives, friends, missionaries about Bibleline and get them to listen as well. We have listeners from 150 countries that have logged in on Bibleline. That’s exciting and we’re thrilled about what God is doing in getting this message out to a world that so needs to hear about Jesus. I hope you’ll pass that word along and help us grow our audience. And if you tell them about the website, BibleLineMinistries.org, you’ll find that you can pass that word to the ends of the earth.
We’ve had people from Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Pacific, Iowans, the Cook, Iowans, the number of island groups out there from even China. We’re talking about Beijing logging on to the Bible and website. Check that out. Check that out. I think you’ll really benefit. We have our worship services there. There’s 46 now sermons sitting there waiting for you to watch. And if you go there, you’ll find it, I think, very, very helpful. Again, I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom and this is Bible and we are listeners supported.
If you could help us, we would really appreciate that. we don’t pay any salaries and so we’re able to do a lot by taking all the funds that come in and funneling it right back out to being on the air. And that’s obviously, therefore, a good investment. I think you’re getting the most for your investment as far as getting the messy job of any ministry out there because we have that low overhead. Everybody’s a volunteer here at Buy Boy.
We’re going to do the second half hour now. Stay tuned right where you are and we’re going to join the stations and put on break and here we go. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lindstrom a question? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Alright, we’re back when I’m breaking this is Bibleline. It’s great to be with you. Thanks again for tuning in. It’s Tuesday and we’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida.
From our studios here at the Calvary Community Church where I’m the pastor. We invite you to come by if you’d like and visit our resource center during the week open to about 430. You can also come by on a worship day and we open our resource center before and after each service if you’d like to do that. You can also go online and look at our resource center online on our online bookstore and there you can get the different resources that we talk about here including the Scofield Bible which is so powerful, a wonderful help in studying the Bible.
It’s the best referenced Bible in my opinion of any that are out there on the market. We have it in a soft cover inexpensive version right on up to genuine leather and large prints so you can choose from the one you want to get. We hope that you’ll take a look at the things that we have. The third Sunday of this month of October we’re going to have a baptism. A lot of people have been baptized as infants but there’s no such thing as infant baptism in the Bible.
Just not there. Everybody in the Bible that was baptized was of age to have understood the gospel of trusted Christ and were baptized as a testimony that they were cleansed or sinned by the butt of Christ. The water doesn’t take away sin. If you were never water-baptized, you would still go to heaven if you’re one who has trusted Christ as your Savior. But every believer ought to give testimony in this way. It’s something that Christ has asked us to do.
And so if you don’t have a place to be water-baptized, you’re welcome to join us. It’ll be in a lake just north of Bible and headquarters here. I love the outdoor baptisms. And if you want to wait till this spring, 2008, I’ll be glad to baptize you in the Jordan River, Lord willing, will go to Israel maybe around the first part of April 2008. If you’re curious about that, if you’ll just give us a call here and get your name on the prospect list, we’ll keep you informed as we’re right now trying to line up that trip to the Middle East to Israel.
I think you’ll have a wonderful time. The last trip we took was in March of this year and we We basically didn’t even hear a car backfire. I mean, we had a wonderful safe time, great food, great hotels, and saw the places where the disciples and where the apostles and the prophets walked and where Christ walked and where the events took place. And it’s a thrilling spiritual experience. You’ll come back and visualize the Bible. Give that a try. If you want to go, you are committed by calling us.
We’ll just put you on the list and keep you informed. And if you want to go, you can sign up and join me on trip number 15 for me. And we’ll be talking about the Bible, the entire trip. You’re welcome if you want to come and be a part of that. We’re going to go back to the phone lines and we have Joe still waiting on the line here from Land of Lakes. And we were talking a little bit about repentance.
and Joe, I’m back to you. So where did we leave off here? No, I understand. I guess my only concern was that people just sometimes just pray more of a mental thing, just saying words and that led to believe that because they prayed a prayer that they’ve gotten saved, and that’s my only concern. That’s not true at all. I certainly don’t teach that. You have to trust. The illustration I use a lot. If you’re standing on a dock and there’s a little boat right there by the dock, you haven’t trusted that boat until you’ve cut all ties to the dock.
If you only have one foot on the boat, you haven’t trusted the boat. If you have two feet on the boat with two hands on the dock, you still haven’t trusted the boat. If you have two feet and only one hand on the dock, you still haven’t trusted the boat because you’re still holding onto the dock until you cut all ties to the dock, all several ropes and ties to the dock and just totally rest your weight upon the boat.
You haven’t trusted the boat in the same way until you cut all ties to everything that you might possibly be trusting in. Trust Jesus alone as the one who paid for all of your sin. You’re not going to be saved. We’re not talking about mental ascend here, but we’re talking about a trust or reliance upon Christ as being the only means of your salvation. and certainly that’s the only way you’re going to get saved. Okay, amen. I agree with that and that was well put.
Thank you, sir. Thank you, Joe, and that was Joe and Land the Lakes and Repentance again is a problem. If you go to my internet site, not only if you go to the bottom right-hand corner where it says Dr. Lindstrom’s articles, you can find about four that I’ve written about Repentance. So I think it’ll be very helpful. You can download and print them out and give them out to people who are skeptical or don’t believe what you say about the true meaning of repent and and it’ll help them have the material to go and do their own homework on it and get it right.
But also, if you go to the sermons, our past Sunday sermon, the one we gave on the last Sunday of September, is all about repentance. And you can watch a 45-minute sermon on repentance. And it was a word study going over the Greek words, translated repent. you’ll find that very interesting. Just go to the website, BibleLineMinistries.org or dot com, click on the camera and you’ll be connected to the past sermons. And the first one at the top is this past Sunday and it’s all about repentance.
So take a look at that. We have now John in Bradenton, Florida and John, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on there. Hey, good morning Dr. Hank, I have a situation here where there is a family of four in our church and I’m fortunate I’ve been going to very hard times using hospital for a little while. But my problem is this, what I do wrong if I took it upon myself to give them my time. In order to help them, you know, I think that’s your choice but we’re obviously to give to help the poor those who need help, those that are in need.
And I think that’s wonderful and commendable to do that. But obviously the Lord wants us to give to support the ministry that’s feeding us and teaching us. But do what the Lord you feel is leading you to do. And if they need your help and you can give it to them, that would be great. you see uh… unfortunately i was ill for about thirty seven days you know i i go to a lot uh… not a small trick meeting such and uh…
they were the only ones that came and i thought that all the king to visit me and it was so humble you know and and finally she said that you know i have a work working working working and i think it kind of broke my heart and i said well you know i know i should but i want to make sure and i said well let me give that the hand control Okay, thank you very much. The best of both worlds is you might want to talk to your church and see if you could give them the gift through the church.
And sometimes the church will say, absolutely, we will divert your gift to that benevolent fund to give them the help that They want some churches have a benevolent fun. And you can ask if that couldn’t be placed in that benevolent fun to give to that family. The church leadership would have to be in agreement with them. But if you did that, then you could give to the fellow through the church. And the church would, as you said, you were helped by a church.
And you’re remembering that wonderful experience. John, I hope that helps. I pray that the Lord will guide you in what to do there. That was John in Brandon, Florida. We now have Jim in St. Petersburg and Jim. Welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Good morning, Dr. Hank. I have a question concerning the moment in time where we as today’s Christians receive our glorified body. I know the Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
When did the Old Testament or when do the Old Testament saints receive their glorified body? Not until the second coming, seven years after the Rapture, the Old Testament saints will get their bodies. Now we in this present age, the church age, the dispensation of grace get our bodies at the Rapture. So we’re going to actually get our bodies seven years ahead of the Old Testament saints. I’m going to get my body ahead of Noah and David and Jeremiah and all the Old Testament saints.
So we get ours at the rapture when the Lord comes. The Bible talks about the dead referring to the body rise up first and they get their new bodies. Their souls are with the Lord. They come back with Christ according to 1 Thessalonians 4 14. But their bodies rise up from the earth and they’re reunited in the atmosphere above the earth. and we which are alive are going to be caught up and transformed on the way up. We get ours at the end of this present age, which is terminated by the rapture.
Then seven years later, the Old Testament Saints and the Tribulation period saints, those who become believers after the rapture, get their resurrection bodies at the cyclone coming. Okay, now what body did Moses have at the Mount of Trishtings Transfiguration? Well, barely his body has been preserved. If you read Jude chapter 1 verse 9, we find Michael the… the archangel gets into dispute with satan as satan is apparently calling foul the fact that god has preserved moses body because he’s going to come back and preach during the tribulation period and is one of the two witnesses or two olive branches the two lamp stands it’ll be with Christ and his second coming zechariah talks about it and revelation eleven describes it and so moses will come back in that same body so he’s got his body still and i think satan didn’t like that he says that’s not fair
and uh… and uh… and those are almost a battle there but michael said the word rebuked this is a michael didn’t get in it a slug out with satan there he just uh… said the word rebuked right not have his glorified body at the mountar prince figuration that the way of understanding that’s exactly what he still has his uh… his body from way back where we bought it i don’t know if it looks like troll histon but it’s uh…
will have to see the movies give us his impressions of what Moses look like but uh… he’ll have his same old body okay thank you very much alright thank you and now we’re going to go to uh… atom in uh… camp before atom welcome to bible and you’re on the air you have a question from the gospel of job all right among them on my way right now i’m passing uh… matthew and mark and luke and john chapter three i went right by it chapter 6 and I’m backing up John 3 verse 34, for he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God, for God given not the spirit by measure unto him.
That’s talking of course about Christ. I believe it is here. In any case the Holy Spirit was given to him and the Holy Spirit is not given by measure to anybody. In other words, you don’t get 50% of the Holy Spirit, or 75% of the Holy Spirit, or 910th of the Holy Spirit, or even 98% of the Holy Spirit. If you are saved, the Holy Spirit is a person, and you get the Holy Spirit, 100%. Now He doesn’t have all of you unless you completely yield yourself to Him, and I don’t know of a believer that has fully, completely yielded themselves to the Lord such that the Lord has control of every thought, every thing that happens in your life.
But we have all the Holy Spirit. So we’re to be yielded. And that’s the key to the Christian life is to yield ourselves to obey God the Holy Spirit, the author of scripture. And as we yield ourselves to obey him. We’ll have his fruit manifest in our life, love, joy, peace, love, suffering, gentleness and so on. And we’ll also have the empowerment that comes by you being yielded to the Holy Spirit and obeying him. Okay, so, well, it’s a serious idea.
But as a man, he was empowered by the Holy Spirit. So Jesus is God and man, and he’s the God man. So he’s fully man and fully gone and the early Christians certainly recognize that at the council in the fourth century there with the time of Constantine they declared that Jesus Christ was fully gone and fully man and the doctrine of the area of the area doctrine that Christ was just a man and not gone was obviously addressed there for all time.
And of course that doctrine is resurfaced today in particular in the Jehovah’s Witness movement. They believe that he’s just a man and is not God. But the early church certainly recognizes that the scriptures certainly declare it that Jesus has God and man. So as a man at the baptism of the water baptism of Jesus the Holy Spirit descended upon him and empowered him as a man to be able to accomplish what he did. Okay, so then before the baptism, getting out of the research?
No. Apparently not. It happened at the baptism and that’s when he was fully by the Holy Spirit and it was not until the baptism that his ministry began and after that then he did the first miracle at the wedding of Canaan. The Bible tells us that he did no miracles prior to that. So prior to the baptism of John the baptism of Christ he didn’t preach. He had no ministry going. He did not do miracles and all took place after that time and as being our priest he was immersed at 30 years of age.
He was exactly 30 and that’s why Christ said to John, allow this to happen so that we might fulfill all righteousness. If you read back in Exodus 28 the priest when he became 30 was fully immersed in a baptism and that’s when he was consecrated for the ministry and Jesus did the same by being baptized. And then there’s a picture there for us too that when we are baptized with water, it’s the picture there that we are now consecrating ourselves as a believer to serve the Lord and to be open about the fact that we’re saved.
And the water’s a picture of how we’re cleansed by the blood of Jesus. And now this proclamation that we make publicly in baptism is basically the beginning of our earthly ministry serving Christ telling others about him. Okay, I don’t mean to continue to go on, but if he was not, if he didn’t receive the whole measure of the Holy Spirit before he was baptized, then how couldn’t you see how people would say that he was not God before he was baptized?
No. No, because he’s still God. And Jesus as God could do things that only God could do, you’d forgive sin. But as a man, he got tired. He wept. He experienced human emotion. And yet he was without sin. But you’ll notice it wasn’t until he was empowered with Holy Spirit that he then was first tempted by the devil. It says he went into the wilderness and there he fasted 40 days and 49th and then Satan came to him in that weakened condition and in his humanness and tempted him and God the Holy Spirit of course enabled him to as a man turn down the temptations of Satan.
Okay. Thank you very much. that helps and it’s complicated about about the Bible says in First Timothy 3 16 without controversy great is the mystery of godliness that God was manifest in the flesh in a human body we now have Jerry and he’s up in Zephyr Hills for the Jerry welcome to Bibleline your own ear yes sir that right could you explain through the scriptures why our God never change the eye or sin and that his nature will never change from the beginning to the eternity I appreciate.
Thank you so much. All right, we’re going to try it. Jesus is God and God does not change. Hebrews 13 8 says Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. So he’s the same Jesus and he existed prior to the creation of the world. He had John 17 and quite a few other verses in John’s Gospel. Jesus said that he was praying there in that prayer in the garden prior to the crucifixion, prior to his betrayal there, that God would give him the glory that he had prior to the creation as he existed eternally.
John when he met him in chapter 1 said, this is the one that was before me. And that is he was before not only John of Antis but all of us and the human race. He was around from eternity past. And as you read in John 1, 1 it says in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. So when the beginning began, when the universe was created, Jesus already existed from eternity past.
And then this is in John 1 14 that he was made flesh and dwelt among us and so we could actually see visibly and behold the glory of God and human body and the person of Christ. But he is eternal and God doesn’t change. He doesn’t vary. James chapter 1 verse 17 says that God is without variableness. He doesn’t change. He doesn’t alter. God is going to do what He promised to do. His words are final. When God promised to save you and save you eternally, the moment you trust Christ, He’s never going to change his mind about that.
Thank you, Jerry. That was Jerry in… Thank you. Good morning Dr. Lindstrom. First of all I want to give a comment and then I’ll just ask a quick question. I’ll hang up and listen. First of all I’m feeling a lot better to have been praying a lot through the weekend. I talked to God a lot about things and the Holy Spirit gave me a lot of answers I was searching for and I wanted to thank you. and the Holy Spirit gave me a lot of answers I was searching for and I want to thank you for your help.
The next thing I want to comment on is that the Bible does say that it is a big mystery lot of this stuff that we’re talking about about Jesus. We don’t understand a lot of things even myself, but he simply told us that his gospel is so simple. The gospel basically, like you’re saying, is we just have to trust him. The Bible says we should come to him as a child unless we receive him as a child. when we enter the kingdom of heaven.
So as a child, a child’s mind is pure and innocent. So a far mind, I think like this, if we cannot become pure and innocent in our mind, then we’re not truly receiving him totally the way he wants us to trust him. That’s just like comment. And the question I wanted to ask you is about these people who claim that they died and gone to heaven. They come back to tell the story of heaven. I don’t believe that because the Bible says it’s appointed unto man once to die, then after that the judgment.
So how do they claim that they’re dying and going to heaven coming back to the San Church and tell all this? And do you believe that they’re having visions like they sit in church and pray, so linger after church for hours and pray and then God suddenly takes them away in a vision and then they’ll be able to stand up to next to the next time the church and tell the vision they saw. And I’ll hang up and listen to your answer and thank you sir.
All right, that was quite a mixture of things there. The life after death experiences, I don’t believe at all. I believe that this is not happening. you said, they die and you don’t come back. And this is something on the part of Satan. Usually they come back and they tell all the lies that Satan tell you. And that is that there is no hell that everybody makes it to heaven. And it’s a wonderful place. And it doesn’t matter whether you’ve believed on Christ or believed the Bible.
And so they bring back this lie which gets propagated by all these people that do that and those that read the stories and believe it. So that’s Satan’s lie. And it certainly is a lie from the get-go. When you really die, not only does your soul leave your body and is not coming back to that body, but also every cell in your body releases enzymes that break it down and it becomes corrupted and it eventually will return back to dust.
And so for a resurrection to occur for somebody to come back from the dead in the biblical sense, every one of the trillions of cells in your body would have to be resurrected. It’s quite an involved thing. And when Christ raised Lazarus from the dead, he had been dead four days. His body was fully in the process of corruption. They didn’t even want to roll the stone away because they said, Lord, he’s thinking. A nice way of saying he stinks by now.
After four days, they didn’t want to smell that stench as they would roll the stone away. And as far as being a child coming to Christ, I think it means in the sense that we as children are totally dependent on their parents and in order to be saved you have to come with that total dependence upon Christ to save you. You can’t have any, like I say, a foot on the dock and a foot on the boat. You have to cut all ties and just fully trust God to save you just like a child, trust mom and dad to keep them fed and clean and changed and so on.
Thank you, Sophia. And we now have Betty in Beverly Hills, Florida and Betty, welcome to Bibleline. Yes, good morning, dear brother. Regarding the question of abortion and because of rape, I just want to run this by you, see what you think. The Moabites came about, that particular people came about because of rape and rules and so forth. are with ending December. and see the lineage of Amis I.A.G. so I feel that God is able to work his plan out in Spyro Ross and what do you think?
Well, I think you’re absolutely right that even though it might seem terrible and tragic and is, I don’t know what to minimize it, but you know like Romans 828 it says for all things work together for good. So it may not be good, but God can turn it into a great thing. It’s a wonderful thing that God enjoys, I think, doing. I’m not minimizing the trauma myself, brother. I’m praying for your cold. It sounds like you have a cold.
I’m bringing you before the throne of grace. And we’ll see you in November. We’re going off to California to visit my brother and his family, all of which are unsafe. So God bless you. We’ll miss you. We will take back the good work. Thank you, Betty. God bless you. Have a great trip to California. We’re now going to go to Dave and. St. Petersburg, Dave. Welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Yes, Dr. Mitchell. Well, just getting on the rape subject there again.
It’s not a Deuteronomy for the other people to call it before. Twenty-two, twenty-five. But if a man finds a betrothed damsel in the field and a man force her, and lie with her, then the man only that lay with her shall die. But if to the damsel thou shalt do nothing. There is in the damsel, no sin worthy of death. Well that’s wonderful. Thank you for bringing that to our attention. Yeah, so if you can kill the man, can you kill his seed?
Yeah, see what you mean. But the man in those days, that was punishable by death to rape. Right. But the woman, there was no fault in her part. She’s the innocent party for sure. For sure, but maybe that might help the caller in one way, shape or form. Amen. Give us the verse again, chapter 22 of Deuteronomy 25-26. Thank you so much. You’re welcome. Alright, we are out of time here. We have to go. Keep looking up. Jesus is coming.
