Welcome to Bibleline with Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Coming to you from Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida. Declaring God’s love through radio and television. Providing real answers to an ever searching world. Got a question? Dial toll free at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here’s the host of Bibleline, Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Well good morning and welcome to Bibleline great to be with you today. Thanks for tuning in on the broadcast. We look forward to being with you each and every day as we come to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios here at the Calvary Community Church and we are excited about being able to be with you.
We look forward to getting to meet you sometime. If we ever have an opportunity that would be wonderful. We know that we’re going to get to meet you at the Rapture if you’re a believer as that That will be the greatest meeting of all times when all the believers of the whole church changed from Pentecost to LaRapture will be gathered together in one place at one time and we’ll get to see all of those that are members of the body of Christ.
In any case we’re so glad to be with you and by the way we’re going to start a new class beginning this coming Tuesday, April 1st. There will be five Tuesdays in April and we’re going to take advantage of all five and teach for five weeks, two hours per every Tuesday night on second Peter. We’ve already finished first Peter. We did that before we left for Israel. But now that we’re back, we’re going to do second Peter and we’ll do ten hours of teaching and that’ll be from seven until nine for five Tuesday nights.
If you cannot attend, if you’re not in the area where you can drive and be a part of the class, you can order those on CD or DVD once we complete them. Right now, First Peter is available. You can order First Peter on CD and or on DVD. By the way, our Sunday services are available on DVD. You can order those and have them shipped out to you. You can also order the Sunday services here on CD and some subscribe to the month.
And we send them out all over the country. Those who would like to get the Sunday sermons on CD, I think it’s $30 a month for the subscription. And every month at the end of the month you will get the whole month’s worth of CDs. In fact this is a timely time to order because this coming Sunday will be the last Sunday in March and then on that following Monday we’ll be shipping out the whole month of CDs to those who subscribe.
So you might want to get them and you’ll find that there’s a lot of Bible teaching there especially here as we went through the crucifixion week, a lot of explanation about what happened on Palm Sunday and throughout the week and on Resurrection Sunday. You might want to call and order the Sunday servants for $30 a month. They will come to your home automatically every month and that would be wonderful. Plus, again, first Peter, already done. Second Peter is going to start this coming Tuesday, April 1st.
We just got back from Israel a couple weeks ago we are going to plan to go again. We want to talk to you about what you would like to do and tell us when you would like to go. Tell us where you would like to go in addition to Israel. We are thinking about adding either Egypt or Petra in southern Jordan where the Jews will flee from the Antichrist. A rock city carved right out of the rock and 40 square miles of city ample to hold all the Jews who will flee from the Antichrist.
And their god will miraculously feed them again with manna and with water right out of the rock and it’s exciting and we’ll be able to, I’ve been there numerous, numerous times. It’s really called the Rose Ridge City of Petra and you enter through a narrow canyon where it’s only just a very few feet wide and when you look up the sheer cliffs that go up two or three hundred feet you just see a ribbon of blue at the top where you see the sky above.
Really gorgeous in all of a sudden it opens up and there in front of you you have a gorgeous building called the temple or the treasury rather and this carved right out of the rock. You would think that it was a constructed building but it’s just actually hewn out of the rock and you have a huge Roman amphitheater there still there from thousands of years ago. This city by the way was lost to the world for the past 2000 years and it was rediscovered to the world by a British archaeologist named Burkhardt in about 1850 At the risk of his life, he followed and joined an Arab Bedouin caravan and he rediscovered the city to the world.
It’s quite a remarkable place and definitely a place that God has on hold waiting for the Jewish people when they have to flee from the Antichrist to flee too. We’re also considering Greece. If you’re interested in going to Israel, would you give your information and we’ll keep you updated and if you just tell us whatever you might like to add in the way of this session, we’ll certainly definitely include that in our thinking process and perhaps we’ll actually have the trip that you desire to go on.
So I hope you’ll plan and think about going to Israel with us and that’ll be great. By the way, you are welcome any time to come by and visit our Resource Center. We’re open every day till about 4.30. That’s Monday through Friday. If you can’t get by, you live in another city, you can go to our website BibleLineMinistries.org. Click on the online bookstore and you’ll be visiting our Resource Center. If you cannot get by to worship with us sometime, you can go to our website BibleLineMinistries.org and you can click on the camera and get our worship service live.
also go back into archive and catch a years worth of sermons all sitting there. If you click on the spinning globe, you get our radio programs. If you click on the TV set, you’ll get our TV programs. Well guess what? We’re getting ready to go on the air in Turkey on television free. That’s right. I was in Nashville just a week or so ago at the National Religious Broadcasters and there the Lord had me bump into a gentleman that is head of a project to bring the gospel to Turkey.
He wants to take my TV programs, translate them into Turkish and broadcast them via satellite all throughout Turkey. That’s exciting. We are excited about what God has in store. Just this morning, we got out a sample of our TV programs and are now making copies so that they can have them in Turkey, get them translated and put them on the air. Pray for us, we’re excited about what God is doing through Bibleline. We just hear reports every day of people getting saved, people getting back into their Bibles, people serving the Lord again, people going into ministry, and what a thrill it is to see what God is doing through the Bible and program.
If you have your Bible, then get it out. We’ll talk about the Bible for a few minutes and then we’ll also take our callers today. You can call us at 1-800-576-3771. In some areas we are played at a different time, it’s not live. And if you would like to be on the air, if you look at your clock and you call between 10 and 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, you can actually get on the program live with this. And then later in the day as the program airs in your area, you’ll hear yourself on the air with me and we’ll try to answer your question.
You might want to try that. So if you’re listening at a different time than 10 o’clock Eastern Standard Call at that time and we’ll get you up on the air with us and later when it plays in your city You’ll be able to hear yourself on the air and the question that you ask Anyway, I just thought I’d suggest that 1-800-576-3771 When you give out the true message of the gospel Several things happen. Number one, there are two basic objections to the true message of the gospel.
The number one objection that you often hear is that’s too simple. That’s too simple. Well, I remember when I first began to witness and people would say, that’s too simple. It bothered me. It kind of rubbed me wrong and I wasn’t happy to hear that response. You know, as I have learned what the scriptures say, when somebody says that’s too simple, I pat myself on the back and say, wow, you have communicated well and they’re understanding exactly what you’re saying and what the Bible teaches.
Did you know that the Bible tells us that the message of the gospel is simple and that Satan would use the fact that it’s simple as a way to prevent you from trusting Christ? That’s right! Get your pen ready. Are you ready? Pencil of pen, write it down 2 Corinthians chapter 11 verse 3. Paul says here, but I fear, lest by any means as the serpent that Satan begal Eve that’s Mrs. Adam through his subtlety. So your mind should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ, from the simplicity that is in Christ, from the simplicity that is in Christ.
The message of the gospel is so simple, people stumble over. And people will say, that’s too simple. Well, that is the trick of the devil to prevent you from understanding that it is indeed simple and not trust Christ alone as your only hope of heaven. Isn’t that amazing? I’ll never forget one guy called me on the phone and was I rate and said you are misleading people. You’re telling them that all they have to do, all they can do is simply trust Christ as their Savior and they’ll be saved.
That there’s nothing else required anyway, no one on and on. And when he finally ran out of air, I said congratulations. He says what for? I said because you heard exactly what I said and you recited it back perfectly, congratulations and they didn’t know what to do. But you know, that is the message. The Bible says it’s the gift of God. It’s not of work, so if any man should boast. Jesus paid it all. All to Him we owe.
We simply trust in what Christ has done for us on the cross and God saves us. And notice this wonderful verse, 2 Corinthians 11-3. It says, I fear less by any means as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your mind should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ, from the simplicity that is in Christ. I graduated in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, and you know, I found out in my field of science that the most profound formulas in the universe and connected with my field of study were very simple.
It’s amazing. Think about what Einstein brought to light to all of us. E is equal to MC squared. The most incredible formula that equates energy and mass. And look at how simple it is. It doesn’t fill up tons of blackboards or pages in a notebook or in a textbook. It simply says E is equal to MC squared. Energy is equal to mass times the coefficient of light squared. Wow, truth reduces to a very simple form. When I heard the gospel, it rang clear like a bell.
I knew I was hearing the truth. And perhaps my scientific background helped me to be able to detect that. Because I knew the truth came out simple, and it always does. All the formulas that relate to amps and watts and voltage and so on are so simple. Just boom, boom, boom. And amazing the relationships that are in science come out to a simple formula. So do the truths of God’s Word. And if you find it as complicated or difficult to explain, then you probably have the wrong answer because it is a simple message.
And I want to remind you, 2 Corinthians 11-3, write it down. When somebody says, that’s too simple, smile and say, thank you Lord, you’re allowing me to communicate clearly their understanding, the true message because they’re understanding it’s simple. Isn’t that wonderful? And so it’s great. So somebody that comes along and says to you when you present Christ to them that it’s too simple. You mean to say, all I have to do is trust Christ? Well, I like to tell them it’s all you can do.
It’s not all you have to do. There is no other choice. choice. There’s not planning a BC and D. There’s only one choice, one way to be saved and that’s to trust Christ and Christ alone. Well, the other objection to a true gospel is that it could cause you or would allow you to live as you please. How many times have I heard that in my lifetime? Why? You’re teaching that people could just go out and do anything and they’ll still go to heaven.
Well, my friend, yes, it’s true that no matter what you do, you will go to heaven, but you can’t get away with it. Did you know that once you trust Christ, God becomes your Father, you become his son or daughter, and now he will discipline you if you become delinquent? That’s right. Let me read to you Hebrews chapter 12, and you ought to write this one down as well. The answer to the second objection to the true gospel, that that would mean that you could live as you please.
Look if you will Hebrews 12 verse 6, it says here for whom the Lord loves, he chases, that word means disciplines. And Scurgis, notice it says, every son whom he receives. God disciplines those that are his sons or daughters. Not everybody. In fact, the lost are not disciplined by God. That’s why the lost can seem to get away with murder, with all kinds of sin and seemingly get away with it. But that’s not true for the believer. You will not be able to get away with it.
I have it happen all the time that brand new believers will come to me. And they’ll say, you know everything was going smooth in my life until I trusted Christ. Now, It’s not the same. I said, well that’s proof that you’re saved. Because God is now working on you to discipline you to bring your life online with his word so he can bless you and reward you. He wants an obedient child who’s on track. Just like a parent who loves his child wants to discipline that child so that they will benefit as a result.
And God wants to do that as well. That’s what if you can sin and are not disciplined, it proves that you’re not saved at all. Are you ready for this? Write it down. Hebrews 12, 8 says, if you be without discipline or chastisement, where of all, a-l-l, that is all God’s sons and daughters are partakers, it says, very strong word in the King James, you’re a bastard and you’re not a son. In other words, you’re illegitivly claiming to be a child of God when you’re not.
If you could live as you please and you are able to get away with it without any interference from God, guess what? You’re not saved. That’s what it says here. Let me read it again. Hebrews 12a, that’s right. That’s what it says. If you be without discipline from God, where of all his children are partakers, you’re a bastard. You’re not a son in God’s family or daughter in God’s family because a true believer cannot get away with living as they please.
You have a heavenly Father now who knows everything that you do and He will discipline you if you become delinquent and if you don’t have any discipline from God in your life, my friend you’re not saved. Isn’t that amazing? So no, you can’t live as you please. Oh, you can, but you’re going to pay for it because God will discipline you. You will not be able to get away with it. you trust Christ, you’re saved forever. But when you’re delinquent, God is going to spank you.
He will discipline you. And you might even go to heaven sooner than you planned on it. He might say, come on home to heaven now. I’m not going to allow you to be a delinquent, disobedient child of nine on the earth anymore. Come on up here to heaven. I’m calling you home just like a parent. We’ll call a child inside the house and say, you’re not going to be out there anymore. You have crossed the line and come on in, get into your room and you’re disciplined.
I’m Dr. Engvenster. I hope you’ve trusted Christ as your Savior. And if you have my friend, you’re saved eternally. You cannot be lost. But it’s a simple message. And guess what? You cannot live as you please. God will discipline you as He is your Father once you trust Christ. Okay. We’re going to go to the phone lines and catch our callers. If you like to call in you can call at 1-800-576-3771, 1-800-576-3771. Give us a call. We’ll try to get you on the air.
Patty in Tampa, Florida says, is it okay to go to more than one church on a regular basis? Sometimes I feel quiet and reflective and sometimes I feel energetic and fired up. If the beliefs, statement are both are biblical, is it okay? Well, I think it would probably be okay, but you know, you need to not only fellowship with believers, but get involved in a church where you can serve and become a part. And it’s difficult if you’re jumping around to be involved very much, to take on a Sunday school class or to sing the choir or aid in any of the other ministries of the church be a part of it, you probably are going to have to be a regular attender.
So I think probably you ought to choose and choose one and stay with it. But certainly if you have two doctors on churches you can attend both but you probably will not be very involved as far as helping them and entering into ministry with them if you’re jumping around. We’re now going to go to Jonah and he lives in Tampa, Florida and Jonah, welcome to my I’m on your own ear. Hi. Bye. Welcome. You’re near. How are you doing?
Good, Jenna. I have a question about it. There’s something, something. Well, exactly right. He’s telling you this is the philosophy of the world and the world tells you that money will be the answer that you’re looking for or whatever and he covers all different kinds of areas. But he finds at the end that none of them bring lasting satisfaction or pleasure that really the only thing that will set us aside is that money. by the deepest needs of your soul is the Lord Himself.
So the conclusion at the end of the book in chapters 11 and 12 is that you need to realize that only God can do that. You know the French scientist Pascal discovered to us the laws of vacuums. He became a Christian and he said this, that there is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man that only God can fill. So it’s all been experimented in every area of life. found out that it was like a bursting bubble.
It just didn’t bring satisfaction. You can be in the party. You can drink. You can have money. You can have influence. You can have the best car. You can have the best house and still be sad inside and not satisfied. And only God can do that. And I think that’s what He comes to the conclusion of in chapters 11 and 12 in particular, he says all of this is vanity. And he says verse 9 of chapter 11, Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk.
It says here in the ways of your heart, in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things, God is going to bring you into judgment. Therefore, remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh for childhood and youth are vanity. It’s all going to find or leave you empty and you need to remember your Creator, Chapter 12, verse 1, and live and serve Him because ultimately what you do for God is going to bring the greatest satisfaction that you can have in life.
It’s actually funny that he brought that scripture to me from that book because like a year ago I told him that he needs to read that book because he has money as like all he cares about and status and life and I told him that that would be a really good book for him to read. I thought it was kind of interesting that a year later he comes back to me with that scripture. Very interesting. Very interesting. Well, I think that’s the answer.
He’s going to find it really will not satisfy. Right. Now, I thank you for your time. Okay. Thank you, Jonah, from Tampa. Now I’m going to go to Ken in Miami, Florida. And Ken, welcome to my mind. You’re on the air. Hi Hank. Good to talk with you. It’s nice, at least over here in Miami, on the air with your streaming online. Hey man, we got the internet going and you can catch the whole program on the internet. Yeah, it’s pretty neat.
i just wanted to add to your uh… introduction there as far as the grace message Because it is an offense to usually the self-righteous because they have a hard time understanding how God could be so loving. and and and do it all for teachers as to the time godliness in it and it talk about a guy that owned uh… uh… restaurant he heard some banging in the back and it was some guy out there eating out of the dumpster So the guy brought in the want you to eat out of the dumpster anymore.
You see this as you can eat here anytime you want. And the guy just had a big spread of anything you could think of to eat there. Hold on one second. Hold on one second. And I want to say goodbye to you folks that in Miami as far as the broadcast, I know you’re signing off right now, but keep listening every day and God bless you all and thank you for your prayers and your gifts that keep us going in on here.
Back to you, Ken. I’m sorry. I wanted to say goodbye. That’s OK. And so what happened was after the guy seen all the food that was available to him in this restaurant, that he could have it for a lifetime, The guy looked at all of it. He said, well, what about the food in the back and the dumpster? Can I eat that? The guy looked at him as if he was crazy. And that’s how it is with God’s love, though, see?
Because once you are in Christ and you experience his saving grace, nature anymore. You become and are upon me places. And as a child of God, it’s just not your nature. You made dabble in sin, God won’t let you. Okay, well that’s a good illustration, you know, because we really, once we’ve tasted of the Lord, we don’t want to go back and eat out of the garbage can. I think you can. And we’re at the very end of this half hour, we’re going to have to say goodbye to Ken and everybody else right now.
And we’re going to go a second half hour, so stay tuned. And as Ken said, on the internet you can get the full hour program. But again, we are list of support and if you could help Bibleline at this time in particular, we need to finish out March on our feet so your gift would really be appreciated at this time. You could call and leave one by credit card over the phone or you could call and ask for an envelope to be sent and mail a gift to Bible.
Anyway, we thank you and advance for your gifts, your prayers, and we’re excited about always meeting our audience. If you ever get a chance to get by the CS, we would love it. And of course, we’ll all meet in the air if you’re a believer. That’s for sure. Anyway, we’re going to take a break. We’ll be right back. Keep your radio tuned right where it is. And we’ll come right back and do Bibleline the second half hour right after this short break.
Don’t go away. I’ll be right back. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. 1-800-576-3771. We would hate to ever have to cut an area because we didn’t receive any support. So I hope you’ll be helping us to continue this program on the air in your area. We’re going to rejoin the stations that have been on break into the second half hour Bibleline. So keep you ready to turn right where it is. Here we go. We’re going to do Bible and to when you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr Lindstrom a question, you can just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-37 Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr.
Lindstrom a question? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3776. 771 that’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Alright, we’re back for now break. This is Bibleline. We’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios at the Calvary Community Church where I’m the pastor. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom, your host. And it’s great to be able to be with you every day Monday through Friday on Bibleline. And if you can, tell your friends, help us grow our audience.
Let other people know about this program. Many people tell us that they learn more in 30 days from Bibleline than they have in their church for 30 years. That’s incredible. What a commentary on the churches because the Bible today is not really being taught anymore. Tell them, do you find a good Bible-believing teaching church solid on doctrine? And so we’re excited that Bibleline can help in that area and help you get answers to your questions and help you grow and have resources that you can order through our resource center that I recommend personally that will help you.
We have the Scofield Bible, the Bible that really helps. We had a question even just yesterday where somebody was talking about the verse where Jesus said the kingdom of God is within you. The Greek word doesn’t mean within you. It means in the midst of you. When Christ was here on the earth, the king was here, and so the kingdom was present in the sense that the king was here on the earth. It doesn’t mean that the kingdom of God is within you.
It means it was in the midst of you. But that was only when Christ was here on the earth as the king was here. Had he been received, the kingdom would have been established. The Kingdom was in their presence in the midst of the nut within them. Alright, well anyway, the Schofield Bible is so good in answer. So many questions that those difficult verses or those problem verses or questions are resolved usually in the notes of the Schofield Bible itself.
We’re getting ready to go to Israel again and we’d love to have you go if you’d like to tell us what you would like about what you would expect in a trip. Give us your name and give us your information and tell us when you’d like to go and where you might like to go in addition to Israel and we’ll certainly consider that as we make our plans. We’re going to begin teaching 2nd Peter next Tuesday. That’ll be April 1st.
There are five Tuesdays in April and we’re going to take all five and teach two hours every Tuesday night and teach the book at 2nd Peter. We invite you to come and be a student of the classroom if you live in the area. If not, you’ll be able to order the CDs or DVDs when we conclude the class. First Peter’s already done. You can order First Peter on CD or on DVD. Plus you can subscribe to our Sunday Sermons on CD and on DVD if you like.
And for $30 a month you can have the CDs of the Sunday Sermons sent out once a month to you at the end of the month. This coming Sunday will be the last Sunday in March and we will send out on that following Monday or Tuesday all the sermons for the month of March and it’s a good time to subscribe because you’ll be getting all of the resurrection sermons and messages about the death penalty of the resurrection of Christ.
I think you’ll find These are going to be a wonderful series to have in your library of CDs. So call and subscribe or call and just order the month of March because we’ll be sending them out this coming Monday or Tuesday after we finish the last Sunday’s sermons this coming Sunday for the month of March. In any case, we got a lot of callers sitting there ready to go. We’re going to go first to Victor down in Bradenton, Florida and Victor, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air.
Good morning, Pastor Winston. Good morning. How are you, Victor? I am very good. Thank you. I have an opportunity to attend one of these. In that area was… They had the old Bible sitting there. Whatever reason, there would have been a study note dropped out of one of the Bible. I didn’t even note that I took down the five points that were listed. It had been a study on the Holy Spirit. I wanted to go over these five notes very quickly if I could.
Point one in regards to the study that this person had with their scripture was point one given was that God destined me to have the Holy Spirit. I don’t have any conflict with that. Number two, I must intend to receive the Holy Spirit. I can’t see anything wrong with that statement, most to God, self-giving. Number four, I must receive the promise of the Holy Spirit by faith. Problem with that, when in number five, the Holy Spirit will not come in where he cannot get out.
We become God’s earthly. There’s two points in there, in my mind based on scripture go against the word can you go over those five points and really I just can’t understand how they could dream point to the scripture they just go against the salvation message in my opinion can you go over those three faster than you this game name number one again let me just hear that one god-destance need to have the Holy Spirit okay stop that’s only for believers during this age because it the Holy Spirit does not come upon unsaid, but every believer will receive the Holy Spirit at the moment of belief.
So that’s true for believers that you will receive it at the moment you believe in possess the Holy Spirit forever thereafter. Number two. I must intend to receive the Holy Spirit. That’s not true. It has nothing to do with you. It has to do with what God has planned. If you’ve trusted Christ, the Holy Spirit is going to come in to you whether you like it or not. That’s true. 3. I must surrender my all to God, self-gilling. That’s not true as far as receiving the Holy Spirit.
Once you have the Holy Spirit to be filled with the Spirit or controlled by the Spirit, you must yield all, but not to receive the Holy Spirit. You receive Him by faith, as He said in one of the other points, but after you have received the Holy Spirit, He doesn’t control you until you yield your life to His control. Number four, I must receive the promise of the Holy Spirit by faith. All right, well that’s fine, but I mean when you trust Christ you do receive the Holy Spirit.
The promises that all that we believe on Christ will receive the Holy Spirit John 739. That’s correct. Number five, the Holy Spirit will not come in where he cannot get out. We become God’s earthly channel. Well that’s not true. I mean the Holy Spirit comes with the intention of staying in you forever. you forever. If you read John’s Gospel chapter 14, Christ said the Holy Spirit would live in you forever. So he’s not intending to leave once he comes in.
Based on these five points, that person adopted or believed in these points, it certainly to me it points to a work salvation. It’s a sad thing. I look at it and I go, at this point to a work oriented salvation, a temporal salvation. I agree with it and you’re absolutely right. Various students. And that person had a Bible and it ended classes somewhere. And apparently they weren’t getting them information from the Bible but from whoever they were listening to that was teaching them wrong.
Yeah and so you know and it’s very brown and youth. So this is an old doctrine message that’s going back many years. I know. Well, Victor, thanks for pointing that out, but you’re right, and it’s a message to all of us to be careful that what we read is an agreement with the Scripture, and if it’s not, it’s wrong. Thank you, Pastor. Have a blessing. You’re very welcome. Thank you, Victor, in Bradenton, Florida. We’re now going to James in my amme, Florida.
James, welcome to Babylon, you’re on here. No, that’s absolutely true. I think it’s in the book of Proverbs. I don’t know if I can find it really, really quick, but, uh, But it does say that Mary Laughter, being Mary is like a medicine, it’s healing. Very definitely. I’ll have to ask our audience to maybe find that reference and if you’ll keep listening, are you listening on the internet right now? Good morning, Dr. Hank. Good morning. I have a Catholic friend of mine who is a Catholic Tomorrow.
Yeah, it is in the Bible. I could find it if you gave me a few minutes, but I don’t want to take the time right now. Thank you, James. beautiful thank you james that all right that was james in my ami and we’re now going to go to scott in uh… seminal for the scott welcome to bible and you’re on here morning after a good morning i uh… catholic friend of mine The guy who we happen to be talking about the time that the Pope was taking communion and he was telling me that the only way to keep grace inside of you was to continuously take the communion after you’d sin.
I know that’s not true. And even if you did, what if you did give me a couple of scriptures that might help me? First of all, that’s probably Roman Catholic theology which they teach the contradiction that grace is earned or deserved or is merited by things that you and I do. And obviously by definition, grace is not merited or is not based upon works or any effort on our part. Let me give you Romans 11.6, which says, if you’re saved by grace, then it is no more of works, otherwise grace is no more grace.
But if it be of works, then it’s no more grace. So if he is working to maintain grace or have grace, then he doesn’t have grace at all. And so that’s scary and this person is putting himself at real risk because to stand before God and have no mercy would be terrible And obviously you’d not be saved. So he’s under the delusion that grace and works are Compatible and that you can earn or maintain grace by works. And that’s what the Catholic Church teaches They teach that through the sacraments you earn grace and of course base cannot be earned And so this is a what they’re talking about and so that’s certainly not true The Lord’s Supper, different than the Mass, is simply commemorative service.
It’s a memorial service to remind us of what Christ has done and what we have in Christ, but has no saving value and doesn’t bestow grace on us at all. It is simply a reminder to us of how we were saved, how great God’s love is, and how great the sacrifice that he offered was, but certainly is not the means of imparting grace. Whereas the Roman Catholic Church teaches that this is the sacrifice of Christ again to pay for sin and does impart forgiveness and grace which of course is merited because you have to do the sacrifice, you have to go to the Mass and you have to do the things preceding it to be eligible to go to Mass and that is confession and penance before you can actually partake of the Mass.
I’m a little bit confused there on his doctor and I think he has to realize that salvation is received at the moment you believe. I like to go back to John 3 16 because sometimes the basic verses have been overlooked. In John 3 16 it says, for God’s soul of the world that includes this gentleman, so much he gave his only begotten son, that’s Jesus Christ, that whosoever that if he would simply believe the Greek word means to trust in Christ.
He would not perish because Christ perished in his place, but he would have. Have as a present tense verb and it means that you possess eternal life at the very moment you believe. And as I illustrate often, if you have eternal life at the moment you believe, what kind of life will it be the next day? It will still be eternal. What about the next year? It will still be eternal. What about a hundred years from now? It will still be eternal.
What about a million years from now? still be eternal, so it’s eternal life that we receive and we possess it at the moment of belief and we’ll have it forever thereafter. So it’s quite clear that he doesn’t have to do anything on his part to assure that that eternal life will continue. It’s already been assured on God’s part that whosoever believe in Christ should not perish but have everlasting life. Now there’s one question I do have. His belief being that the thinking of the communion of the sediments is not a work.
To me it is, but is there anything to help point him out of that direction? Well, I think Ephesians 2, 8 says, by grace or by mercy or you save through faith in Christ. The next phrase says, and that not of yourselves. That would exclude anything even the wiggling of your little finger. I mean, anything you have to do would be of yourself. And clearly, he’s driving to the church, he’s walking in the church, he’s sitting down, he’s observing the worship service, and so he’s having to do something.
I knew you have the answer and I always appreciate it. Thank you so much. Thank you Scott and great question. We now have Ron in Seminole Florida and Ron welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Hello Dr. Hank. Yeah Ron. Yes I just like to ask the business of our Abraham where he is asked to sacrifice his son. Yes sir. And then… And then later on in the Deuteronomy I read that God said that he hated. He said that people burn their sons and their daughters to the fire to their gods.
He said that that’s something that they should not do. You know what I’m saying? Well that’s true and obviously God never intended for Abraham to offer up his son because it was a teaching lesson and it was a picture of how God would offer up his son, the Lord Jesus Christ. And you’ll notice that although Abraham was submissive and willing and would have killed his son, God stayed his hand and there was a ram caught in a thicket that became the the substitute payment for Isaac, his son, and Isaac was spared a picture of how Jesus was the lamb that would substitute himself in our place so that we could go free and be spared the penalty of sin and death, which is really what was pictured there by offering up his son Isaac that we all deserve to die for our sins, but God in his loving care provided
a sacrifice to take our place and that is the Lamb of God Jesus Christ is pictured by that lamb or that ram caught in the thicket there in Genesis 22. But certainly God doesn’t teach that we should kill our children nor offer them up to sacrifice. And that was some of the practices there in that land by the peoples that were there when Israel came in to the land. God judged those nations, those people because they were offering human sacrifices indeed.
Well, I know, but if you read over in Hebrews, chapter 11, Abraham knew that even if he did, God would raise his son Isaac back from the dead because God had made a promise that it would be through his seed and through Isaac’s seed that the Messiah would come. And for that to be fulfilled, Isaac would have to live to have marriage and have a child to carry on the seed that he had promised to Abraham. And so it says there that he believed that God would raise him from the dead.
And in all of that he had a picture or figure of the death and the burial and resurrection of Christ. It’s a beautiful passage in Hebrews 11. I’m encouraging to read that. And you’ll see what Abraham’s faith was that he believed that if I kill him, God will raise him right back from the dead. And in a sense he did that in a picture way by having the ram die in Isaac’s place. And then you have basically Isaac alive, resurrected from the dead three days after Abraham had set out on his journey.
And then we find that when Abraham comes down from the mountain, Isaac is left there, a picture of the ascension of Christ in the heaven as Isaac is not seen as coming down, but he goes on up to heaven. A beautiful, beautiful picture of the death barrel resurrection and ascension of Christ all in Genesis 22. Sure, go ahead, Ron. The Bible says in any testament that the person came up to her, Jesus. I’m not here, Herod, but somebody came after Jesus.
Jesus and the wise men came, they were told that it was two years or something after. Yes. So then they were going to kill all the people in the… he tried to kill all the babies. Two years old, and it’s throughout Bethlehem and all the surrounding cities. No, they had gone down to Bethlehem for the census, and they were still there two years later, and it says, when the wise man came to Bethlehem, they found them in a house, and Jesus at that time was a young, growing, developing child about two years of age.
probably met him at the door, probably had conversation with the wiseman when they came. The thing was though… He took him back to Nazareth. He looked at chapter 2. Well, they didn’t take him back to Nazareth right then. They still, Bethlehem is right there like a suburb of Jerusalem. And they went back to Bethlehem. They lived there until he was two years old. Then they fled to Egypt until the death of Herod. Then they came back and went to Nazareth.
Nazareth is, well, Egypt is even further. They went to Egypt first before they went back to Nazareth. Check that out again and get back with me, Ron. Okay, I think it was after you I don’t believe that but check it out and come back with a specific verse Rhino will deal with it. It’s Luke 2 Luke 239 Okay, well, I’ll check that out and we’ll talk about it. Maybe tomorrow. Okay. Thank you And that was run in Seminole. We’re now gonna go to Anne^^^^ in Lakeland, Florida and welcome to Bibleline Yes I have a question.
In the Bible it says that God knows when we die. He knows everything. He knows when we would be born, when we would die, and everything we would ever do in our lifetime. Okay. Well, my question is if someone were to kill one of my loved ones, would God commission that or how does that work? Since he knows when we’re going to die and how are we going to die? well i think you know obviously some of these things are variable from our end because if you uh…
uh… you know the poorly or abused your body with narcotics or drugs or whatever you can die sooner than you plan on it apparently has a child was going to die early because of sin in his life he had his life straight now to god added fifteen more years back to his life i guess the original date of his death that was carried out but he is about ready to go home to have an early but what about people that that kill people i mean you know people that kill people how that commission by god uh…
it’s not commission by god but god certainly knows about another words just because god knows the future doesn’t mean it is pretty permanent but he knows it naturally by having not been down by time he lives in the past and he lives in the future he seemed to seen everything already take place but he hasn’t made your choice or my choice to get saved and he doesn’t make our choices for us every day uh… if i decided to put green socks on today instead of black socks as my choice but he knows that what color stock i’m going to put on today okay well like for instance of my husband get killed in an accident due to someone else’s fault that would be who’s fault dot well the first you did it but but god would i would be allowing it obviously he would allow that to take place in
and obviously uh… uh… we’d have to wait one day and find out why god did not allow it i had a uh… son sixteen years of age killed in a car accident uh… and uh… wow that was a tragic event in my life and uh… but i’d just to realize that uh… i need to trust god that he knows best my son was a believer and then he said heaven and all see him again and why god took him at that particular point and in his life i don’t know but i certainly uh…
There have been positive things that have happened. Many of his friends got saved. And also I’ve learned a lot about the grieving process. I’ve been able to be a better comforter to those who lose a loved one, because I’ve experienced it myself. And lots of positive things came out of it, but sure. That was a tragic event. I just, you know, it affected my life, for sure. And if your husband were killed, then you’d have to say, I have to take it from the Lord.
You know in the case of, for example, Job, if you go to Job 1, Satan was allowed to take the lives of all Job’s sons. He lost all of his sons and daughters and apparently a tornado that came and ripped the house apart where they were all together in one house and they were all killed. Job received that tragic news and he said he ran his clothes and he bowed to the earth and he worshiped God and he said, naked came out of my mother’s womb and they could He’d tell her to return to their Lord is given, the Lord is taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.
So he knew in the big picture that God was in charge and God had given and God had taken it back that nothing we have is really ours. It’s all given to us by God and a part of the big picture is that God knows what he’s doing. So he doesn’t commission it but he knows that it’s going to happen and he knows how. Yes he does. Okay. Okay. So I know it’s a difficult topic to deal with. But we definitely have to trust the Lord through whatever circumstances we go through.
I think. Thank you. All right. And another great verses, 1 Corinthians 10, 13 that says that God knows exactly what your limits are and He’ll never allow you to go through and experience in your life. It’s more difficult than you would be able to bear. So God knows your limits and He’s going to make sure that nothing happens. It’s more difficult than you can go through successfully trusting God through it. Boy, we have lots of callers sitting on the line.
I hate to say that we can’t take Him to do it. today because we’re out of time but they’re calling in from Colorado and from all over the place and we’ll have to catch them tomorrow.
