One of the questions that always arises and it seems to be a frequent one is, doesn’t what you say about salvation mean that you could live as you please? And the answer is, no, of course not. Once a person believes on Christ as Savior, by the way that’s the only way he could be saved, it’s not based on works, it’s not based on behavior, it’s not based on obedience, based on the finished work of Christ when you trust Him as Savior, you receive everlasting life.
But at that moment… He is a child of God and God for the first time becomes your father and you become his son or daughter. Did you know that God is not your father if you have not trusted Christ? Many people pray our Father which art in heaven and yet God is not their father. If you haven’t trusted Christ and if you’re not saved then God is your Creator. You’re His creation but you do not become His Son. Nor does He be your Son.
his son, nor does he become your father until you trust Christ. Jesus said in John 14, 6, I am the way, the truth and the life, and no man cometh unto the Father but by me. So to be able to approach the Father, you have to come through Christ. You have to trust Christ as your Savior. Once you become born again, you become a child of God. And once you’re a child of God, God then is your Father. That point you are related to God by birth and by the blood of Christ and from that moment on you can be sure to go into heaven and then God as a wonderful Father will discipline you when you are delinquent.
So in Hebrews chapter 12 in verse 6 it says for whom the Lord loves he chases and scourges every son whom he receives. The word chases means the discipline and so the Lord chases or disciplines and the The word scourge means he might have to get a little bit rougher in case you’re not listening, but the Lord because he loves the believer. He chases and scourges every son whom he receives. So when you receive in the God’s family as a son or daughter by the new birth, by trusting Christ as your Savior, God then becomes your Father and he will discipline the delinquent believer.
So do you have a license to live as you please? not. But if you live as you please, you’ll still go to heaven, but God is going to discipline you and he will chase in you. Verse 8 is an amazing verse. We’re in Hebrews chapter 12, by the way. Hebrews chapter 12 verse 8 says, if you be without chastisement or discipline, where of all, A-L-L are partakers, then it says you’re a bastard and not a son. Pretty strong word there in the King James, but it means that you’re claiming illegitimately to be a child of God.
You’re really not a child of God. If you could live as you please, if God did nothing at all about your living as you pleased, then it would prove that you were not saved. It says in verse 8, let me read it again, if you be without chastisement where of all our partakers, then you are a bastard and not a son. In other words, you are not one of God’s children if you could live as you please because the Lord chases every son that he receives in his family.
The Bible goes on here in this chapter 12 of Hebrews says, no chasing or discipline for the present seemeth to be joyous but grievous. And you know, that’s the way it was for me in my home. As I was raised as a child in my mom and dad’s home, whenever I had to be disciplined, it wasn’t a joyous occasion. I don’t ever remember saying, hey, dad, could we schedule this discipline so that I can invite all my friends? And maybe after you discipline me, we’ll have cake and ice cream and we’ll celebrate yippee!
I’m going to be disciplined. Of course not. It says here in my Bible, no discipline for the present seems to be joyous but grievous. So it’s not a pleasant experience to be disciplined and we find that when God disciplines you it’s not a pleasant experience either, but grievous. But notice what it says in Hebrews chapter 12 verse 11. Nevertheless, afterward, and this is one of those great afterword verses in the Bible, Nevertheless, afterward, afterward, after your chastened or disciplined, it yielded the peaceful fruit of what?
Righteousness. In other words, it doesn’t lead to a life of sin, but God’s discipline upon the delinquent believer leads to a fruit of peaceable righteous living under those which are exercised thereby. In other words, God brings about discipline to bring about the desired result, and that is that you would have the peaceful fruit of righteous living. In other words, there is no license to sin. God does not allow the believer to live as he pleases without interference, and God will chase in every believer that is received into his family.
The Bible is quite clear that no salvation is a gift, but no you do not have a license to send. No, it doesn’t mean you could do anything and get away with it. Yes, you will go to heaven because salvation… In other words, if you come to Christ, there is no circumstance that would ever cause you to be cast out. There is nothing that you could do to ever be cast out. Christ said, Him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out.
And if that weren’t good enough, because some people say, well, what do you do? And if that weren’t good enough, because some people say, well, wait a minute here. Alright, he won’t cast me up, but I can cast myself out, can’t I? And John 639 is even better where it says, this is the Father’s will, Christ says, that of all of which you have given me, I should lose nothing or none. Not one! But raise them all up again at the last day.
So Christ is not going to lose one. He’s going to raise them all back up at the last day. If one person in all of history were ever lost after they became saved, Christ would be a liar, the Bible would be incorrect. We might as well light a match to it and walk away. God doesn’t lie. God doesn’t change his mind. God doesn’t take back his promises. Here he promises that if you come to him and trust him as your Savior, that you receive everlasting life, that he will under no circumstances ever cast you out, and even better he says he will not lose you.
In other words, he’s in charge of keeping you. If you were in charge of keeping yourself saved, then I would agree you probably could lose it. But we are in charge of keeping ourselves saved. Christ is. And Christ says in John 639, this is the Father’s will that of all of which you have given me, I should lose none. None. No, not one. It says, but raise the ball up again the last day. You know, these verses obviously are wonderful verses and you can rest assured that once you trust Christ, you’re forever saved.
But no, you cannot lose you please. God will discipline you if you are delinquent. And in some cases, that discipline means he’ll take you home to heaven early. That’s right. You may not live out your full length of life. The Lord might take you home sooner than you had expected to go, because God is not going to allow you to remain here on the earth and to blaspheme his name and be a bad testimony without his interference. And if you don’t listen to his discipline, he might say, all right, come on home.
I remember my parents, my dad in particular, They get into the house, son, you’re through. And get in here right now. And I didn’t really enjoy what happened. I was disciplined by my dad and I was never kicked out. I was never lost. He didn’t say, Mom and Dad are getting rid of you. We’re bolting the door. We don’t whenever see your face again. That never happened. He said, Rather, come on in. Hey, get into the house right now.
Get into your bedroom. God never kicks a person out anymore than a parent, hopefully would never kick out a child that is theirs. Because the Lord loves us, He will chase in us, Hebrews 12-6 and discipline us. And obviously it tells us in Hebrews 12-8 that He does this with every child that He receives in His family. So if you’ve been born again, if you’ve trusted Christ, you have eternal life andimei never be lost. But you can be disciplined by the Lord and that’s really not what you want to have happen.
God can take you home to heaven early and you don’t want to have that happen either. So if somebody comes up to you and says, I just can’t buy into this salvation where you just trust Christ because that would mean you could live as you please. Obviously you need to point out Hebrews chapter 12 where the Lord says, no you can’t live you please. God will discipline you because He loves you and every child is disciplined so that you might have the peaceable fruit of righteousness in your life.
This is my blind. I’m Dr. Englunds from It’s Great to Be With You. We have lots of all fair questions. We’ll try to take as many as we possibly can today. And also we would like to take our live callers so you can call us right now at 1-800-576-3771, that’s 1-800-576-3771 and we’re going to go to Carter in St. Petersburg and Carter. Welcome to my blind year on the air. I don’t know if Carter is there. Carter is calling in from St.
Petersburg and I think he walked away. Carter, are you there? Apparently card is not there. We’ll go ahead with our offer questions and maybe Carter will reappear somehow but Carter we are sorry that you weren’t there when we came to the phone. Off air we have here a number of questions and David in Petersburg, Virginia calls in and he says the message Bible strikes again. In Ephesians 4a it reads, He climbed the high mountain, He captured the enemy, sees the booty just another example of how the message translation is a joke.
You’re absolutely right David. That’s one of the worst translations I’ve ever read. And the story in Ephesians 4-8 is of Christ when he died going down into the heart of the earth into paradise, taking all the Old Testament believers who were waiting for their salvation to be paid for out of the heart of the earth, leading them captive up to heaven and taking them far beyond all the visible universe. That whole story is destroyed in the message Bible and it has nothing about climbing a high mountain and capturing the enemy and seizing the booty.
Boy, that is just absolutely, I agree with you, a joke. By the way, the new living translation just absolutely wipes out that story too. It’s not there. The Apostles Creed is wrong. It says that Christ descended into hell during those three days. That’s not true. descended into the heart of the earth and it says in Ephesians 4, 8, 9, and 10 that he descended into the heart of the earth and there he took a group captive up to heaven that was all the Old Testament saints that were waiting for the announcement that their sins were finally paid for and when Christ came down into the heart of the earth and that’s where he met the dying thief.
Here in Matthew 4.12 Christ said as Jonah was three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, so the Son of Man shall be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. At the same time he tells the dying thief in Luke 23.43, today thou shall be with me in paradise. So obviously Christ went to the heart of the earth, that’s where paradise was, and all the believers were taken out now, paradise is in heaven itself.
Well, we’re going to go to the phone lines again. This time we have Tony in Tampa. Tony, welcome to By Blind. You are on the air. Thank you, sir. Good morning. Good morning. I’m talking about in terms of the Delequin child. I, too, agree with the fact that God will discipline his own. Now, where does it come into grace as far as a father to your own children who are being delequent or disobedient? They’re a believer. They are of age.
That means above 18. They’ve left home in a negative format and they have not yet repented and probably We have not even seen the seriousness of their actions and they still have a lot of They still believe that what they’ve done is really not wrong. I wouldn’t go into the long story, but the short version is I don’t agree with just Having all this grace and love the wisdom love and truth at the same time and how do you define that when at one time do we need to instill?
Some form of discipline or draw the line so that maybe through that it would bring them to repentance Well, you know if they’ve left the home then obviously you just need to pray for them and lead and leave them in God’s hands. But first thing, you need to leave them to Christ. If they’re not saved, they need to come to know Christ. That makes a difference. It really does make a big difference. And obviously, when a person comes to know the Lord, they have new insights and they have a new nature and new desires to live for Christ.
They still have that old nature and they may continue, but the Lord then will begin to discipline them. And of course, that’s a good thing because he can do a better job than we could. We can’t exactly. Now this child, this is mine, and has been raised in a Christian home and knows the stories, knows the examples of a disobedient child, some church. but is he genuinely safe is he really trusted the world is again that’s that’s one of the things i have to say i don’t know the heart jip god knows how hard and can judge a heart I will face on the profession of faith that says, you know, you had certain time in my life.
I did accept Christ and this is what I do believe that I trust and Christ for forgiveness of my sin and so on and so on. But through the chain of events, and again, I don’t want to go into long version, but the short version is through negative influences, a previous relationship with someone who is not a firm believer, and then family issues that brought this person to life. brought this person to the decision of, well, you know what, I’m out of here.
Now that I am of age, I’m out of here and it’s an active dislocutience. And I remember, Asia Rajan saying freedom does not mean the absence of authority. If you’re not going to be willing to submit to the God-given authority, it’s going to be very difficult for you to submit to his authority. I know this particularly because I’ve been saved since I was 19 and I’m not 45 and I see the inside but another family member who is now allowing her to stay at her whole heart that you are now being disobedient, you are living outside.
Well all I can tell you is that it’s in the Lord’s hands. If the person, if your child is a genuine believer, the Lord is going to interfere. There’s no doubt about that. It says that he, because he loves his children, every son or daughter that he receives is going to be disciplined by him. And sometimes it’s kind of hard to just say, Lord, I’m trusting you to bring this about. But he will, he will definitely do what you could not do.
My concern, because I’ve been there, sir, I’ve been there, the link went disobedient child, and fortunately God spared my life, but I did go through some discipline. And it took some time for me to get back into sleep and things. But again, there’s no guarantee that she might be exempt from God taking her home prematurely. And that’s one of my fears as a parent, you know, because I understand, you know, the attributes of God. of God and God takes us, you know, you’re trying to pretend like things are okay and I know we put it in God’s hands and we trust and we continue to pray, but do we even allow that person to come to our home and interact and because the fellowship is not good.
The relationship, Father and daughter, we have for a turn, but the fellowship is broken. I have a very hard time when she’s here. When she’s here with that aspect. I hate to see you totally cut off all communication from the child because obviously as long as you can dialogue there’s an opportunity for you to, and I think in love present what the scriptures say to that child to let them know that, hey, they are saved. Then God is going to have to correct them and they may not like what they might have to go through as God does the corrective process.
But definitely you see throughout the whole Bible that God has always done that and he did it with Israel. He chastened them in the wilderness and so on. all of that was to bring about correction so that they could enter in on his blessings. And God doesn’t do it for a mean reason. It says that he doesn’t so that we might enjoy the peaceful fruit of righteousness in our life and the rewards that come by living for the Lord.
And so the Lord has a good purpose in it. He doesn’t do it for selfish reasons. He really does it for our benefit. And I just think you need to keep your communication lines open. If you can’t continue to drop a word in about the Lord and don’t drive them away, but keep the lines open and just say, look, the Lord wants you to return to Him. If that person is a believer, just like you would like to have them return to you.
But obviously, under the circumstances, that has not going to work out because of the decisions they’re making. So you just get to talk plain with them and talk in love and tell them we love you, but we obviously realize that you’re going a wrong direction and since you’re no longer under our roof, it’s in God’s hands and He’ll have to discipline you. Right. Now I just try to correlate the two with the other scripture that, you know, where you find someone in Santa.
We’ve given that council from the church and the person who’s done is wrong and wants to live life the way they are with freedom that she thinks he has this real and i know that judges and my fear that the pair i want to say So he looked, you know, stop, we decided to heed to the fine, but there are the only ones where they don’t have to listen to me. And that hurts. That really, you know, peers look and I’ve been there.
And… like that’s a really You’re going to have to place her into God’s hands because obviously you cannot force her to do that and we pray that she will. Thank you so much, Tony, for calling and we’ll be praying for you and your daughter. And we pray that the Lord will be merciful to her and is disciplined so that he might just correct her life and get her back on course and hopefully there will be a good ending soon for you.
We’re going to have to go to break here in just a I hope you have trusted Jesus if you are listening and if you have eternal life in that moment on. Then yes indeed if you attempt to live as you please with this regard to God’s Word then God will discipline you. And the good news of course is he does it because he loves you and all this correction is because of his love and he wants you to benefit.
We are going to keep you ready to down tune right where it is. Bible I will be right back after this intermission. So stay tuned, where you are. Don’t go away, Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom and this has been Bibleline and we’re glad to be able to be with you on this Wednesday. We have our television programs tomorrow at 7 a.m. in the morning on the dish nationwide on Angel 1 on Sky Angel at 8 o’clock in the Florida on more television channel 32 at 6.30 pm on direct TV nationwide on channel 321 World Harvest Television and at 7 o’clock throughout the West Coast of Florida on cable and on broadcast on the Christian television network.
I hope you’ll take advantage and also on our internet site. You can catch our radio programs and our television programs and watch many that are in archive again and again. Again, Bibleline is listeners supported and if you could decide or make a decision to pray for us and maybe also financially help by the line, it would be greatly appreciated at this time. We could use your help right now. And if you would like to give a gift to Bible and you can mail one, and also you can give one by credit card over the phone by just calling our 800 number and our operators can take that gift over the phone.
You can also do it on our online bookstore on our website. But if you’d like to mail it, the address will be given to you if you call in an export or will send you an envelope with our address already printed on it. We have lots of resources in our Resource Center including the Schofield Bible which is such a valuable tool. Most Bibles have biographical, geographical, historical type information. But the Schofield Bible, the notes are geared to doctrine. What about justification, sanctification, glorification, predestination, and so on and so on?
And what about inspiration? And was the earth, did we evolve or is there evolution? And so the notes are just wonderful. And I recommend it so highly. You can get that from us. If you go to the bookstore, they’re probably not going to carry the old Scofield as it It seems like it’s getting phased out, which I think would be terrible because it’s such a valuable tool. The newer Scofield that have come out have been tampered with and have been watered down.
That’s so they can keep a copyright control over the books. And so they’ve changed the notes, watered them down so they can recopper item. And I think they’ve made a mess. The old is better in this case and you would want to get the old Scofield. We also have many other resources, my CDs and DVDs of my teachings, all available, and you can call and inquire about those or have a resource sheet sent to you. Call our N800 number 1-800-576-3771.
We’re about ready to rejoin stations that have been on break and do the second half of Bible ends, so keep your radio right where it is. If it isn’t carried on your station, go to the internet and you’ll catch the full program right now. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lynch from a question? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lynch from… Well we’re back for that break and this is Bibleline.
Great to be with you again. Thanks for tuning in to Bibleline. Today is our television day. We were on… I mean tomorrow’s our television day will be on the dish at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. on Angel One of Sky Angel at 7 Eastern Time all over the country. And you can tell your friends and relatives to watch that program. Again at 8 o’clock in the West Coast of Florida on more television and also at the same time you can catch us at 6.30 in the afternoon on DirecTV, World Harvest Television Channel 321 and at 7 o’clock all over the West Coast of Florida on the CTN Christian Television Network.
and I hope you’ll enjoy and you And you can watch them on the internet as often as you like. If you go to my website, BibleLineMinistries.org. We are listeners-appointed and we certainly could use your help. We need to have you pray for us for sure. And if you can give a gift to Bibleline, it would be greatly appreciated, especially right now. We could use your help. A gift could be sent by mail or you can give a gift by credit card over the phone.
And if you want our address or would like to have an envelope mailed to you with our address on it, you can call the 800 number and our operators will be glad to send that out to you. And we hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity to invest in eternity. We’re really not trying to get your money. We just simply want to get this gospel out and it requires a partnership with our listeners to be able to do that to be able to do that because we don’t have the resources to be able to pull this off.
All the monies go back into the ministry. We don’t have any salaries paid for Bible and staff, including myself. We really feel a great need to get the Word of God out before people, and we believe that this program is effective. If you will invest in this program, we believe that the rewards you’ll have in heaven will be great and God will bless you for being a part of the program. Thank you in advance for praying for and for giving to Bibleline.
We’re going to go back to the phone lines right now. The phone number is 1-800-576-3771 and we have Joe in Brandon on the line and Joe, welcome to Bibleline. You are on the air. Yes, Dr. Hank. a question uh… with women becoming more and more involved in politics now holding higher and higher positions uh… such as it appears that uh… i guess this new speaker the house policy uh… is it possible that uh… in the anti-price the anti-price could end up being a woman i i don’t believe that will happen because obviously implies that he is a man he’s called in 2nd teslonious chapter 2, the man of sin.
He’s called the son of perdition. So he’s not called the woman of sin or the woman or the daughter of perdition but the man or the son. So I believe he’s definitely going to be a man. But obviously we are seeing what Isaiah spoke about a long time ago about how there would be a switch in values and in our society and in the last days it says here in Isaiah chapter 3 that we would have in the last days the things of sodomy in our in our very society it says first of all verse 12 and this is probably in line with what you’re bringing up today it says as were my people children are their oppressors and women rule over them so that’s It’s certainly a prophetic statement that fits today and this is talking about the End Times.
And then of course Pelosi in San Francisco, we know it’s a haven for the homosexual sodomy movement and it says here in verse 9, in the last days it says, the show of their countenance, the witness against them and they declare their sin as Sodom and they don’t hide it. It says here in Isaiah 3 verse 9, Woe or judgment under their soul, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves. So here there are some incredible verses here that really lay it out as to what we’d see in the last days.
And I think as we get real close to the rapture that the floodgate will open and it’s really starting to open wide now. And I believe that as Christ said during the tribulation period, it would be again as it was in the days of Lot. obviously we know where a lot lived, he lived in Sodom and I remember a little boy, I never even knew what were you, if you brought the topic up I wouldn’t know what you’re talking about.
But now it’s obviously being pushed on us in interface and it says in verse 12 that women would rule in the last days and that’s what’s happening and I don’t think the Antichrist will be a woman but hopefully that helps a little bit. Well, it does. I was just wondering because I was always thinking, you know, the anti-Christ is the ultimate insult to the Christ. And wouldn’t that be one if, if in fact, a woman would be an anti-Christ?
And I was just, it was a question I thought I’d asked anyway. I think those verses in 2 Thessalonians 2, 3, the fact that it’s specific says he’s the man of sin, the son of perdition. I think it has to be a man. Okay. Thank you very much. You’re very welcome and thank you for your call. It was Joe in Brandon, Florida and we have Angela in St. Petersburg, Florida on the air. Angela, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air.
Thank you, Dr. Hank. I just wanted to make a quick response to the father about the troubled teen. I’m a parent of a former troubled team whose life has been changed. She’s currently attending church again with our family. She’s learning to trust God and she’s preparing to go away to college. Somewhere I thought I would never see her. My quick suggestions are to let the child search out and find their way, even if they’re going about it the wrong way.
Like the prodigal son, God can and will bring them back into the fold. Let them face the consequences of their actions. Nothing teaches a person like consequences. don’t bail them out, she should get into trouble. Continue to pray and trust God to cause all things to work together for our good. Don’t wait for her to confess that what she’s doing is wrong. The more you try to show her, the more she’ll deny she’s wrong. Pray for God to do this and let God show her within her heart of hearts that she’s wrong because he’s the only one who can truly do this anyway.
Trust God to protect the children while they’re away from home. We are afraid for them when they’re not under our household, but who loves the more than God? He can protect them. Stay on your knees, praying for them, cry out to God. Enlist your praying friends and family members, your church family to pray for them. Even if your heart isn’t in it, when you have the opportunity to interact with the child, interact with them the best way you can and show them God’s love no matter what your emotions feel.
Because at the end of the day, no matter what you say, the only thing they will remember is how you treat them. If we mistreat them or put them down, they’ll feel like we’re not practicing what we preach. And once again, just quiet the God to give you the love that you need to give them because we don’t feel like it because we’re looking at them as disobedient. But God can give us love to give them and you may have to do it several times in one visit.
And on a book I read that helped me with the power of a praying parent by stormy, Marshall O. M. A. R. T. I. A. N. And I just want to encourage the gentleman to be blessed, to stay encouraged and let him know that I’m praying for him and his family. Well, Angela, thank you. That was a, that was really good advice. And I would say that is great advice for, I hope he’s listening and we’ll take that to heart.
Okay. Thank you. And that was a parent who’s been through it and has seen God work, which is wonderful. wonderful we now have mark in st. Petersburg and mark welcome vibe on Bible and you’re on the air. Hello. Hi, how are you today? Good. You have a question for us. Okay, I’m calling and I’ve been hearing you about your understanding of the plane of salvation and I would like to share something with you and hear your viewpoint about that and the teacher that I have it is in the book of James.
And I want you also to be here with me because the Bible have it in French and I’m trying to translate that. Please. And the book of James chapter 2, it is talking the first verse. From the first verse it is talking about faith in general. And to be specific in verse 10, it is that the word server observed the law. but seeing against one is one for me, and is good to you. So, good to you up hall.
And, continue talking about the feet until very slow. And we did why? Well, when he offered his son Isaac on the ground. Mark, what is going on here is that James is not talking to unsaved people. He’s talking to believers. As you mentioned there, he says, my brethren, he’s talking to those that are already saved. And he’s not talking about how to be saved, but he’s talking about rewards. And in verse 14, he uses in the King James and says, what the prophet?
Salvation is not. profit or something that is earned as a result of your labor. But salvation is the gift of God that was purchased by Christ at Calvary. But what James is talking about is believers, unless they work, they will not have any rewards and their faith in Christ will not save them from the consequences of the judgment seat of Christ where if they have no works they will have no reward. The key verse, I believe is verse 12, where James tells those that are reading this book so speaky and so do ye as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
He is talking about Christians who will stand before the judgment seat of Christ and judged by the law of liberty that only Christians are judged by. At that point, if you have done no works, you will obviously have no reward. And so when you die as a believer, the fact that you have faith will not save you from the consequences of not doing anything for God. In other words, you will suffer the loss of reward, you will experience regret, sorrow, be ashamed and obviously you’ll have no rewards in heaven.
And so that’s what he’s talking about here. And he talks about Abraham being here an example where he offered up his son and that was an example of his works demonstrating his faith. But at the time Abraham got saved, he didn’t even have a son. He got saved and verse 23 tells us how Abraham was saved. It says the scripture was fulfilled which saith Abraham believed God and it was counted him or it was imputed unto him for righteousness.
So Abraham was saved by faith and James teaches that same thing but he says that he was justified by works before men when he offered up his son Isaac. That was 40 years later. People said, wow, Abraham really does believe in God here because he is willing to offer up this son that he waited a lifetime for. And he was over a hundred. His wife was over ninety-one. They had their child Isaac. And obviously he nearly loved his son.
This was his only begotten son. And he was willing to offer him up since God asked him to do so. But in doing so, he demonstrated his faith. And by doing so, he was very much mature as a Christian. But obviously he’s not talking about working to be saved. He’s talking about working because we need to recognize God is going to judge us one day for whether we have served him or not. But if you have no work, you’ll still be saved, but you’ll have no rewards, no profit.
Verse 14 says. Okay. And in the same verse, as you were saying, I agree with you about the fact that faith is by… I mean, salvation is a grace. Although in the same chapter, James will say that even someone will, you know, trust on the law and sing against one is guilty of all. But what he will continue in this… in this same verse and it was telling people that the Christian that even though it is about it is a faith, how can somebody have the faith without work?
I mean in other words like in the book of Romans it is said that faith is a demonstration in the book of Hebrews. It is the issuance of the thing that we hold. In a demonstration of the thing that we do not see. So can somebody who said… He said he has speed and we do not see food of what he believed like James will say in that case. What will happen is that nobody will get saved. Nobody will know that he’s a Christian and he’ll be totally ineffective and he’ll have no rewards in heaven.
He’s still saved but nobody else knows about it. I was a secret believer for the first year of my Christian experience. Nobody knew I was a believer. I showed no evidence and told no one and kept it a big secret. secret and I was a Christian that was cloaking myself and hiding it. But you know, once I made my second decision, then I chose to live for Christ. And obviously that’s where the rewards and the blessings come in. James is warning his reader that unless you start working, you’re not going to have any rewards in heaven.
You’re not going to have any profit. And you’ll suffer the loss of reward as it says in 1 Corinthians 3. you’ll be embarrassed, you’ll be ashamed, you’ll experience regret and the loss of reward for all eternity. It’s something you don’t want to have happen to you, but you’re still saved obviously, and you will go to heaven. He’s talking here to believers, not unbelievers. Thank you Mark for calling in. We sure appreciate that call. And we now have Wilburn in Richmond, Virginia.
Wilburn, welcome to Bibleline your own ear. Yes sir, good morning God bless child and then they eventually He actually raised up to become a saved pastor. Is God the rudder in that child’s in person’s life? Does he pick his saved pastors? Well, obviously God gives different talents or gifts and not everybody is going to be a pastor. In Ephesians 4 talks about that one of the gifts to the church was a pastor in evangelist and so on and different gifts of different, God has given the different individuals.
So although you’re not maybe necessarily pastor, we still as believers, every one of us are to witness to other people and obviously tell people about Christ, but you may not have the capacity or the position of being a pastor to do it. Even though not everybody has the gift of giving, we’re all obligated to give and so on and so on. So, we need to act in all areas of responsibility, but if we’re gifted in a particular area, then we would be a pastor and God has already given up those gifts.
And yes, if you have the gift and God calls you or leads you, I believe the Lord led me into what I’m doing today. And I believe that that was his purpose for my life. I could have turned him down and I’m glad I didn’t, but he worked on me and brought me through a process where I chose to live for him and for claiming. But you can turn it down. You can say no to God and suffer the consequences and the loss of not doing it.
And that’s what James is talking about with believers who were sitting on their bus and assurance and we’re not doing anything in the way of doing works that we’re pleasing to God and bringing lost folks to Christ. And so absolutely there are some that God has given the gift of and is desiring for them to have that particular office of pastor. Okay. Thank you, Dr. Hank. All right. Thank you. Now we have Jasmine on the line. She’s calling in from Warner, Robbins, Georgia.
Welcome to the program. Jasmine? Hi, how are you? Good. Okay, I have a question. My grandmother says that the Catholic religion is the truest religion that Christ founded the Catholic Church and that the purgatory. How do I answer her about this? Well you have to show her what the Bible teaches. And I like the quotes of Peter. They always see the whole main argument of Catholicism is that the church is built upon Peter and Peter was the first pope and there was a succession of popes from Peter right down to the present time that therefore the church has the authority to change things and so the word of God is not the supreme authority but the church is the supreme authority.
So the church is allowed to get away with anything and they are constantly changing all the time and truth doesn’t change. So if Peter were the first pope, then you have to say that Peter said in Acts 4, 12 that salvation is not in the Catholic Church, but salvation is in Christ. Neither is there salvation in any other, for there’s none other name under heaven. Give it among me and whereby we must be saved. So you have to say, look, to be saved, Peter, If he was the first pope, said, It’s not in the church, but it’s in Christ.
And there’s no other name except the name of Jesus in which you can be saved. Then Acts 1043, Peter again speaks, says that to Jesus or Yeshua, God says all the prophets give witness to Him, that whosoever believeth in Yeshua or Jesus shall receive the remission of their sins. So listen, you’re not forgiven because you go to confession and are assigned penance and then go to mass. You are forgiven when you believe or trust in the finished work of Christ at Calvary.
And you can go right through all the quotes of Peter and just point out what the Scriptures say because the Church is departed. We have a great book in our resource center called Understanding Roman Capacism. It takes 37 crucial doctrines from the Roman Catholic Catechism and quotes those quotes from the Catechism and then shows the scripture and it’s amazing how far the Catholic Church has moved away from scripture. But their claim is all based on the fact that Peter was the first pope.
So if you just go to Peter and let him be the authority, obviously the church is departed far away from Peter. Of course, I don’t believe you was the first pope or any pope, but I believe that obviously if you quote Peter, it has a powerful impact upon the Roman Catholic. Give that a try. Thank you, Jasmine. And Roman Catholic theology is constantly involving. In fact, it’s not the same in every country. In some countries, they allow animal sacrifice in the church.
I have missionaries that tell me that they’ll have the mixture of Catholicism and paganism and allow and permit voodoo and ritual sacrifices and so on and so on. In America it’s different than in Central America or South America or even in Canada and in Europe. So the Catholic Church is like a chameleon. It adapts itself to the culture where it is. As long as you’re faithful to the church in the Mary, it doesn’t really matter. That is, of course, not what the Bible teaches.
If you travel outside of the country, then you will see a lot of different varieties of Catholicism being practiced, although it is the same church. It’s really quite a thing to behold. I remember one of my experiences at Rome. We had a young college girl who was our guide. And I said, what are the people here in Rome in Italy think about the Roman Catholic Church? She says they have great disrespect for the church. She said, because we live with it, and we know what it’s all about.
And so I was quite surprised. As we entered into the St. Peter’s Cathedral, I saw one of the popes had himself embalmed. as the Egyptians in Baal, apparently not having the hope that we have in Christ have eternal life, tried to get himself eternal life by having himself in Baal so that his soul could enter into eternity. It’s really some things that are absolutely contradictory. As soon as you walk right into the door of St. Peter’s they contradict the Bible and and it’s something to be hold with your own eyes, but let me recommend you look at the Bible as the Supreme Authority, not the Church.
I’m Dr. Englinschram. There are many wonderful people in the Roman Catholic Church, but I believe they’re blinded by the teachings that are constantly changing. What was true 40 years ago is not true today, and obviously things are constantly evolving within that Church, but truth doesn’t change. And if you know the truth, the truth shall set you free. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bibleline. I hope you’ve trusted Christ as your Savior. Love to have you go to Israel with me in March of 2007.
