We’re going to get right into the Bible and if you have your Bible there you might want to take a look at what we’ll be talking about. Acts 2.38 seems to be a verse that is misunderstood more than most any other and is used by those who teach water baptism for salvation. So perhaps there’s no other verse in the New Testament so misinterpreted and misunderstood as Acts 2.38.
Those who would add works to salvation, that is, by faith alone according to the Bible, seem to use Acts 2.38 as their proof text, especially those who teach water baptism is necessary for salvation. What does Acts 2.38 really say? Let me quote the verse. It says Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Well, a couple things that need to be done here.
The word repent must be defined. Repent comes from the Greek word metanoia or metanel, which means a change of mind. We’ve talked about this numerous times, but it never seems to get corrected. People just seem to fall back on the wrong meaning. But meta means change. Noia means mine. The two Greek words together, metanoia, mean a change of mine. So it doesn’t mean to turn from sin or sorrow for sin as is so often taught. Repentance in salvation means a change of mine from any idea of religion that man might have and accepting God’s way of salvation.
Nowhere does the scripture ever use the phrase repent of sin to be saved. What the scripture does say in Acts 20, 21 is repentance that is a change of mind toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Saving faith includes that change of mind which is called repentance. When you do trust Christ, you do change your mind from whatever you were previously trusting in to trusting in Christ. In Acts 2.38 the repentance is clearly a change of mind about who is Jesus Christ.
Peter had concluded his message in Acts 2.36 by saying, therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ. The point being made was that the Jews had crucified Jesus because they thought he was a fraud, an imposter, a counterfeit, not the Savior that the Scriptures had promised. And so Peter is saying that the very same Jesus that they had crucified had proven by his resurrection that he was both the Lord, that is, he’s Yahweh or Jehovah, and that he is Christ, that means He’s the Messiah.
When Peter asked for repentance, he was asking themDenver to change their mind about Jesus and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is gone in human flesh and that the promise he is the promise Savior of the Bible. It was afterward that Peter said be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Now this is another problem because this is not, I don’t believe, water. Most people when they see the word baptized, their minds lock up and they seem to say water, water, water, water, water, water, water.
Did you know that there are ten different baptisms at least taught in the New Testament? Let me just list some of them. There’s the baptism of John the Baptist, Matthew 3.11. There’s the baptism of fire, Matthew 3.11. There’s the baptism of death, Matthew 20 verse 22. There is the different, diverse baptisms of the Old Testament, Hebrews 9 verse 10. There is the baptism of believers, Acts 8, 36-39. There is the baptism of Jesus himself in Matthew 3, 15-17. There is the baptism of Moses, 1 Corinthians 10-2.
There is the baptism, it not of pots and pans, Mark 7-4, and then there’s the baptism in the name. Well, we believe the tenth one is the one mentioned here in Acts 2.38. You’ll notice it says here, it’s not water, it says note carefully the verse says, be baptized every one of you in the name, in the name, in the name. I need to underscore that in the name of Jesus Christ. It doesn’t say be baptized in water. It says be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
In other words, what it really literally says is, change your mind about who Christ is and be baptized. That means to be washed or cleansed or fully wellmed. one of you in the name of Jesus Christ. Isn’t there cleansing power in the name of Jesus Christ? And the answer of course is yes. You know over in 1 Corinthians 6, 11, it says and such were some of you, but you are washed. That means baptized, you’re washed, you’re cleansed, you are sanctified, you are justified and it says in the name, in the name of Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our God.
So we know there is a washing a cleansing that occurs in the name or in the authority of Christ’s name. You know the Bible tells us that phrase throughout the Bible, it talks about the name of Christ. Peter says in Acts 4, 12, neither is there salvation in any other. For there’s none other name under heaven, give it among men whereby we must be saved. Peter tells us in Acts 10, 43, to Jesus, or Yeshua, give all the prophets witness that through his name, whosoever believeth in him shall receive the remission of their sins.
And on and on and on it goes. In other words, basically, it’s like there’s a check that is made out to whosoever believeth in Christ. And it’s drawn on the Bank of Heaven in the amount of eternal life, and Jesus Christ has He has signed his name at the bottom of the check. And in the authority of his name, you can draw on the bank of heaven the gift of eternal life by simply trusting Jesus as your Savior. You know, if you give somebody a check and they fill in everything but you don’t sign your name, the bank is not authorized to dispense any money.
And when Jesus Christ gave his name, he gave his authority to your salvation that would comes through faith in Christ alone. When you trust Him as your Savior, you become the recipient of that gift of eternal life. It says in the Bible, who so ever believe in Him. That word believe means to trust. When you trust Christ, God says you become His, you become forgiven, you become baptized or cleansed or washed in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 230 is not talking about water at all.
It’s a baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus. I have several sheets or articles I’ve written on baptism and you can have those good on my website and pull them down for free. Just go to BibleLineMinistries.org and in the bottom right corner it will say Dr. Lincolns articles and you’ll click there and you’ll be able to see. All the articles that I’ve written and you can print them out on your computer. So hopefully you would do that and that would be wonderful.
Alright, well we’re going to go ahead and go to the live phone lines here. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bibleline. We’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios right here at the Calvary Community Church where I’m the pastor. And we hope that you’ll give us a call. We have several callers waiting right now and we’ll get you up on the air as quickly as we can. and call that number again, 1-800-576-3771. 1-800-576-3771. Alright, we’re going to go right to the phone lines and we have a caller here.
Who are you? What is your name? Lloyd. Lloyd, excuse me, Lloyd. And where are you calling from? Clearwater. Clearwater, thank you so much. What is your question today? uh… okay well i think uh… well one thing the first thing is uh… seven-day at Venice or where to stand on that there christians right i mean is the only uh… difference in them is a the other They’re a cult group. They don’t believe in hell. They don’t believe in LNG White said that Jesus is Michael the Archangel.
They’re very, they broke off from the same group that started jobs witnesses. So they have a lot of similar beliefs as the the Joe’s Witnesses do. They believe in salvation by works. They say they’re believing in salvation by grace, but they came up with this idea of what is called the investigative judgment where they say that Christ is in the holy of holies and he is investigating our works and weighing them in the scales to determine whether we’re worthy of grace and it goes on and on and on and on.
They They believe that anybody who worships on Sunday has the mark in the beast and will be annihilated. That the only ones that will make heaven are the ones that worship on sanity. That’s the seal of the living God to worship on Sunday is the mark of the beast. So they have just tons of strange doctrines and it’s craziness. Okay, very good. One other thing if you’ve got a minute. I’m sure I’m not in a unique situation, but I’m a grandfather of six and they’re being brought up Catholicism.
I’m very good friends with become a wedge and I don’t want to confuse the grandchildren. Do you have the magic pill? Well, the magic pill I spoke on earlier this week is that you have to get them to trust Jesus Christ. Amen. The Roman Catholic is trusting the Church and trusting the baptism, the confirmation, the penance, the mass, the Eucharist, the priest, and the whole church system to get them to heaven. And you have to bring it down to Christ as the Savior.
And I think with children, especially they’re more likely to grasp this in adults are that they keep going back in their mind and relapsing back to the work system that they’ve been raised with. Christ is the way. Christ is the Savior. John 3 16 says it so simply for God’s love the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth or trusteth in him should not perish. So I would just approach it very simply put Christ at the center of it and make sure that they understand that it’s not trusting the church that saves you.
It’s trusting Christ that saves you. When you trust him you become the Savior. That’s what I always talk about when I’m with them. You know, I don’t denounce Catholicism, of course. I think that’s the right idea. If they grasp the truth of the gospel, they’ll be able to see the error because the other is obviously works based and it’s pretty obvious once you see the truth, it’s not a works. Right. It’s like how they believe that Peter was the first pope and they talk about the rock the rock is nothing more correct me if i’m wrong please the rock is nothing more not nothing more action but it’s correct no it’s christ christ is the rock okay and peter tells us that if you relax for and rusus tensor twelve he says that that p i jesus is the stone that was rejected He says that
Jesus Christ is that cornerstone was rejected by Israel and he doesn’t claim to himself be the rock. Anditous are even clearer, Ephesians 2.20 says that were built upon the foundation of the apostles. apostles and prophets Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone First Corinthians 3 11 is another great one. It says for other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid Which is Jesus Christ so Christ is the foundation stone? Okay, very good that’s an antisean Yeah, Ephesians 220 first Corinthians 3 11 acts of four 10 through 12 and and lots of other passages Christ Yeah, is the rock Okay, thank you very much.
You’re so welcome. A tremendous job. Thank you. Thank you, Lloyd. And that was Lloyd in Clearwater floor. We have Adley, I think I’m pronouncing it right, in Hudson, Florida, if I haven’t got it right. Hello? Yes. You’re there. What did you have to pronounce your name? Adele. Adele, I’m sorry. The way they spelled it up on the screen, I wasn’t too sure. Thank you. You have a question? Oh, yes. Thank you for taking my call. On Tuesday, I heard part of your program and it was about teaching being forbidden by women.
And I needed some, I’ve been asked, my husband and I have been asked to teach a Bible study at our church and were Methodists and I mean, husband and wife teach them all the time. But I heard you speaking about how women aren’t allowed to teach men. I think a husband wife team is wonderful. I like that. And I think that especially if you’re teaching children’s classes, it’s wonderful to see, you know, sometimes we separate everybody out. We separate the girls and the boys and the women.
This is an adult class. But really, it meant it would be the real teachers. And if you read 1 Corinthians, in particular, 1 Timothy is the verse I used. It says that women were not to teach nor do you serve authority over the man. So we just really don’t see women Bible teachers in the New Testament. But certainly women can be used greatly. I mean obviously women lead people to Christ. I mean we see the woman at the well in John 4 and she gets saved and she runs back to the city and she tells everybody to come out and meet Christ because he had to be the Messiah as a result of her testimony, many men in the city there got saved, which is wonderful.
Well, that’s what I wondered. I mean, because I’ve, you know, all my life, I’ve taught my kids and teenagers and other people that are involved in, and people that have been in relationships and things with me. Well, I think that another important part there is that you don’t assert authority over the man. authority over the man. In other words, if you are given permission to speak or to share your testimony or whatever then I think as long as it’s under the male authority of the church that you are following the scriptures.
But if you usurp that position and say, I’m called to God to do this, then it’s a different ballgame. Okay. Thank you very much. You’re very welcome and thank you for calling in today. We have now Wesley in Plant City and Wesley welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Hello? Hello, you’re on the air. Wesley, can you hear me? Don’t listen to the radio. It’s 20 seconds behind. Oh, I hear you, sir. What did you say? I said, don’t listen to the radio because it’s 20 seconds behind.
You’ll really never get to have a conversation with me. Let’s just stay on the phone with me. Okay. I was just one. I never just wish. I just wanted to explain 1st Peter 3-21 to me. 3 and 1st Peter 3-21 to me. Alright, that has to do probably with this issue of baptism again. A lot of people love to go to this verse in 1st Peter chapter 3, and I’m turning there now. And it says here in verse 21, the like figure, we’re unto even baptism death also now save us not putting away the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Now I believe the baptism that’s talking about here is not water. It’s talking about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I think you have to drop back up to verse 18 where it says Christ also hath once suffered ever since. The just for the unjust. In other words, Christ was righteous and he died to pay for us who are unrighteous or ungodly, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.
So there you have his death and you have his resurrection. So you have the death barrel and resurrection of Christ in verse 18. Verse 19 and 20 are parenthetical. You could pull him out and not lose anything. And you jump right to verse 21 where it says, the like figure, the figure of what? death the bear with the resurrection. Notice the like figure we are unto baptism, all of us also now save us. The baptism of Holy Spirit places you into the body of Christ and therefore positionally God sees you in Christ’s body and when Christ was crucified you were crucified.
When Christ was buried, you were buried. When Christ rose from the dead, you rose from the dead. So it is this like figure where Christ sees you in Christ that saves you. And he’s telling us in verse 21, it’s not water. It says it’s not the putting away of the filth of the flesh. Now if you are immersed in water, water is such a wonderful solvent, it would take away some of the filth of your flesh, even if you didn’t attempt to scrub yourself for use.
So water would do that. But it’s saying it’s not the taking away of the filth of the flesh. It’s not talking about water. But this is the answer of a good conscience or God. You can know that you’re saved because God sees you crucified with Christ, buried with Christ, resurrected with Christ because according to the Bible, when the Holy Spirit takes you, the same Holy Spirit that raised Christ from the dead and places you into Christ’s body positionally. You are then seen as crucified, buried and raised again.
First Corinthians 1213 is a great verse, Wesley, to write down. It says, for by one spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be bond or free, whether we be Jew or Gentile, and have been all made to drink into one spirit. The result is given there in 1st Corinthians 1227, where it says, now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular. So we’re seen as members in the body of Christ, and what happened to Christ happened to us, and therefore, like Paul said in relation to twenty, I’m crucified together with Christ, nevertheless I live.
So it’s not talking about water. Now most people go to verse twenty where it talks about the eight that were saved through the flood in the ark, but verse twenty one is not referring back to verse twenty, it’s referring back to verse eighteen. It’s referring to the death burial resurrection of Christ and the like figure of that which is pictured to us in the Spirit baptism is the one that saves us. It’s not water, not putting away the filth of the flesh, but it is the answer of a good conscious for God.
I can go to sleep every night and know I’m saved because I was crucified with Christ at the cross. I sure hope that helps. Thank you for the call Wesley. We now have Craig in Tampa, Florida and Craig welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Hello there Craig. Yes. You’re on the air. Oh, okay. I’m sorry. Go ahead. What’s your question? Yes, I am. I’m asking a question about Hebrews where it says it’s impossible to restore someone. And what relation that has to do with eternal security?
Okay. It’s a wonderful eternal security What it’s saying is it’s impossible and then it gives five marks that show that this is talking about a safe person. It’s one that has been enlightened, one who’s tasted of the heavenly gift. I believe the gift of salvation is the heavenly gift that it’s talking about and so on and so on. It says it’s impossible if a fall away, which is not falling away from salvation because that’s impossible. The phrase is used in other places to fall from our steadfastness, to fall from our confidence, to fall away from serving, but never from salvation.
So it’s saying if they are to get away from the Lord, it’s impossible to renew them again under repentance. That’s the word that means a change of mind that occurs when you got saved. That change of mind can never be repeated. you trust Christ, you are saved forever and it says if you attempt to go back and become saved again, then you are simply crucifying to yourself the Son of God of fresh and putting him to an open shame.
What you are saying is that his one time death was not sufficient to save you eternally and that you have to go back and try to become saved again. The Bible says no that is not true. Once you are saved, you are saved forever. Now, there There are some people who teach this means you can lose your salvation. I’ll never forget one lady in particular that I spoke to who believed that. She told me she had lost her salvation seven times.
I told her… What verse would you use to support? She said this verse here in Hebrew 6 and I put on my sad face and I said, oh I feel so terrible. I’m so sorry. I just don’t know what to tell you. She said, what do you mean? I said according to this verse, if it means what you say it means, it’s impossible for you ever to become saved again. So you’re going to hell. There’s nothing I can do about it.
Nothing you can do about it. There’s nothing anybody can do about it. Then she said, well, I didn’t really lose it. I just came close. So she kind of changed her whole presentation. But it doesn’t mean It means that you need to get serving again. You don’t have to go back and try to crucify Christ all over again to be saved because he was crucified once and he saves you once and for all once you trust him. So it’s forever.
Well that’s a great explanation to that particular verse. And that’s really probably the only one that I guess I could ever say that I really had a hang up on. But I do have a question. Alright, well hold on because we have to go to break right now. I’ll have to hold you through the break. We’ve got to go to a break and we can’t control that, but we’ll be right back to finish up this discussion after the break.
Don’t go away. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Well, I’m Dr. Englund. But anyway, we’re glad to be with you, and we hope that you’re enjoying the program. Want you to visit our online bookstore. That’s right on the website also, BibleLineMinistries.org.
And you’ll see the many resources we have. Let me have some wonderful things that will help you grow and I have a lot of my teachings on CD and DVD available there that a lot of people tell me they learn a great deal from. But we have the Scofield Bible. That is really I think the best reference Bible available. We have it in a soft cover for 20 and we have it in a hard back for 30 and we have leather for 50 and on up we have the large print for 100 in leather and the large print in hardback for 60.
But you can check what we’ve got there, but it’s difficult to find the Scofield anymore. The bookstores are all selling the new hybrid, which I believe is terrible. I’m surprised that they have done this, but of course they’re trying to carry the market and make money. But the Old Scofield is the best one and we somehow have been able to still keep getting some in here but it’s getting more and more difficult to get the Old Scofield. If you have one, you can treasure it like a real treasure because it may be in the near future you won’t be able to get one at all.
So make sure you’ve got one handy because it’s a wonderful study tool. We are going to be rejoining the stations that have been on break and doing the second half our Bible and so make sure you don’t change that now stay with us and of course you can catch it on the internet as well BibleLineMinistries.org click on the spinning globe and you can catch today’s program right now. Would you like to call Bible and ask Dr. Lindstrom a question?
You can just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771 that’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Alright, we’re back from that break and this is Bibleline. It’s great to be with you. And our previous caller couldn’t hold over the break. So hopefully we answered that in Hebrews chapter 6 for him. That is a passage that seems to scare people when they first see it. But if you read it in the light of the whole book, especially chapter 10, you see that the one sacrifice that Christ made saves us forever.
Hebrews 10, 14 says, by one offering, He hath perfected forever those that are sanctified. So once you’re saved, you’re saved forever. And if you get away from serving the Lord, you don’t want to go back and try to become saved again. Nowhere does the Bible say you must be born again and again and again and again and again and again. You’re only born again once. There’s no provision for a believer to ever become unborn. Anyway, I’m Dr. Inglitz from We’re Coming to You Live from Tampa, Florida.
From our studios right here at the Calvary Community Church. on the pastor and by the way tonight is our TV night we are going to be on Direct TV at 6 30 nationwide on channel 321 direct with Direct TV World Harvest Television Channel 321 at 7 we’re all over the West Coast on the Christian television network join us would you for our TV programs tonight and of course you go to my website and catch these programs as well click on the television set.

This fall we’ll probably teach some other classes. What’s wonderful is that we can teach it to students around the world by they’re turning to the Internet. Alright we’re We’re going to go to a caller from Jacksonville, Florida.
Colleen is on the line and Colleen, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes sir, I called yesterday at the end of the show and I didn’t really get it. I didn’t really hear the answer too well. I have two things this morning actually. Then I’ll hang up and take the answer off air because I can hear you better off air. The first one was the answer I’d ask you about this haired camping who’s teaching some words. Some words, I don’t know where in the Bible he’s getting this.
For all the people to come out of churches of all denominations, he’s saying that if we belong in any denomination, that it is of the devil and it’s a Satan’s truth. So I guess my question would be where does he get this from the Bible that the church age has ended to be my first question. It’s kind of scary that he has access to the radio and he’s preaching this all over even the Asian countries and I’m afraid for these people that they’re listening to this man.
So where does he get this from? My second thing is, I came up with the conversation of the day. Somebody asked me, I couldn’t answer myself. They said if Jesus was really God, we know he tried to witness us somebody. They said if nobody knows the hour of the day or anything, only the Father in heaven knows the time when Jesus will return. Even Jesus himself said he does not know. So when they say to me, well, if Jesus was God, then why he does himself not know when he’s coming back.
So I was not able to answer that. They said it seems like there’s two gods sitting there. Jesus on the right hand and the father on the left. So Jesus is really in a human form. I was trying to witness this to somebody the other day. I took hands and they said, why does Jesus not know himself when he’s coming back? So that would be my two things and I can take the answer off the air, sir. I appreciate it.
All right. Thank you, Colleen. That’s up in Jacksonville, Florida and we’re new in Jacksonville. They’re listening on the YMM 1530 on the AM dial. Well, great questions. And Harold Camby, I don’t know where he pulls this up. It’s got to be out of the sky. It’s certainly not out of the Bible and the church age began at Pentecost and will not end until the Holy Spirit is taken up And we believe that’s gonna be very soon and when he goes we go because he dwells in us permanently He’s the restrainer in second thessalonians to that will depart and when he departs we depart and then the Antichrist will be revealed and will be in the tribulation period But I think we’re getting close, but yeah, I think his teaching is terribly wrong, and I agree with you about that.
On the other in Mark’s Gospel, let me quote what it says here, Jesus says, of that day in that hour, no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the son but the Father. And you know, that troubled me as well as a new believer. I happened to go to the Amplified Bible which has the Greek and Hebrew right defined in the text and I just happened to stumble on it. I think the Lord had to be stubble on it.
But I was shown there and I’ve done my homework since that the word neither can be translated if not. And so I think that is the correct interpretation in Mark 1330. If you translate the word neither, if not, it should read, but of that day and that hour, no man, no not the angels which are in heaven, if not the son, but the father. So it’s really, if not the father. In other words, the father is the one and the son both equally.
No. And that’s a good question because Christ knows all things that the father say. If you read John 5, there are numerous verses that say Christ is omniscient. He’s gone. He’s equal with God. He. knows everything the father knows and so he would know when he’s coming back. And I’m sorry, I got that wrong here. The word but is the word that should be translated if not. So the angels don’t know neither the son if not the father. So they all know when he’s coming back and we just don’t know the date.
I hope that helps. The word but, excuse me, should be translated if not. And the amplified Bible, if you have one of those, you can look it up and it’ll show it to you there. the word but should be translated if not alright colin thank you so much for calling in we have jimmy in the penellis part florida and the jimmy welcome to bible and you’re on there pretty good good you have a question uh… yes i do my question i just heard a sister called a few managed to go and uh…
she was uh… one to know about uh… uh… women teaching, and I kind of disagree with you on that because the Bible does not teach that women shouldn’t preach or teach. As a matter of fact, if you look over at Corinthians, not about the seven chapter, Paul begins to ask questions, he’s answering questions, I will ask him, and he says, now concerning the things where have you wrote on to me. Now Paul is answering these answering questions of what people are writing to him and Paul and the one of the first questions was I suffered not a woman to teach and his reply was what?
Did the word of God come to you men only? That was his reply and these answering questions for the rest of the chapter. And there’s another scripture that says that a woman shouldn’t teach. Well, if you read the whole context there, it’s talking about a home setting that a woman should not usurp the authorities over man in the setting of a home if in fact the man is a Christian. It ain’t talking about a woman shouldn’t, if a woman shouldn’t, it should be quiet.
That means she’s got to be quiet in the church period. And that’s what it means. It don’t mean that a woman shouldn’t teach. And moreover, one more, like that one more thought. And when Jesus gave the great commission for them to go you therefore in the old earth, He also gave a command that if you tear in your roosement, you should be able to do a powerful more high. And whenever the Holy Ghost failed, there was women in the upper room too.
There was also women in the upper room, so if they didn’t get the same command or the commission, then how come they were in the upper room? I’ll hang up and let you explain that to me. All right. Thank you so much, but you couldn’t be more wrong. Let me go back to 1 Corinthians since you wanted to go there. In verse 34, verse 15, it talks about the homesteading, the church setting. It says in verse 14, 34, let your women keep silence in the churches.
For it is not permitted unto them to speak. That’s pretty clear, I think. Let your women keep silence in the churches, for it is not permitted unto them to speak. I think that’s pretty plain. And thank you for that question, Jimmy, in Pinellas Park. First Corinthians, look it up, chapter 14 verse 34. We’re now going to go to Adam and Adam, welcome to Bible Ann. My question comes from John 15, verse 5. Jesus says, I’m the vine and you are the branches.
And you ever bide in me? He will bear much fruit. The Lord of the Bible, you can do nothing. If any does not abide in me, he is thrown away like a branch that withers. And the branches are gathered and thrown into the fire and burned. So it appears that the branches, which are believers, could actually be burned if they don’t bear. for is that wrong I’ll hang up a question. Alright, very good. All right, very good},{“. This is talking about fruit bearing and not about salvation.
And it’s talking about the conditions for bearing much fruit. If you’ll notice verse 6 carefully is talking about men gathe of the branches that do not produce any fruit and men cast them into the fire and they are burned. It’s talking about your testimony has no value with men if you’re not living for Christ and serving Him and you’re not going to be able to bear fruit. The Bible uses that phrase numerous times and it talks about for example something similar over in Matthew 6 and the Sermon on the Mount.
That as believers that we need to recognize the value of the fact that we are the salt of the earth and that we are the means, the light of the world, that we are the means by which the gospel is given out. Let me just turn to Matthew 5 and show you something equally equivalent to that where it says in verse 13 of Matthew 5, you are the salt of the earth. But if the salt has lost his saver, wherewith shall it be salted?
It is therefore good for nothing but to be cast down and be trodden under the foot of man. So here’s talking about your testimony. It’s just worthless. It’s to be thrown out and cast out and so on. But a believer as far as salvation is concerned is never cast out. If you look at John 6, 37, Christ says, Him that comes to me, I will know why it’s cast out. So Christ doesn’t cast you out. This is really men who are receiving what you have to say, rejecting what you’re having to say.
not living the talk by your walk, then the Bible is saying that people won’t respond to you, they won’t listen to you, and they’ll reject what you have to say. And they’ll just cast it on to the dump pile and burn it and just walk away. So it’s not talking about loss of salvation, it’s not talking about Christ casting you out, talking about men taking these branches and casting them into the fire. And I think it’s also probably a picture what happens at the Jesuit sheet of Christ when your works and my works that have not been done for the Lord will be burned up.
It says in verse 15 of 1 Corinthians 3, if any man’s works shall be burned he shall suffer loss, that’s loss of reward. But he himself shall be saved. So you’ll still be saved, but it says yet so as by fire in other words, you’ll have no reward, you’ll suffer loss, but you won’t lose your salvation. So men will reject your testimony, men will trample on it, it’s worthiness, it’s good for nothing, it says it’s manly 513, and doesn’t bring about any reward and you’ll suffer loss of reward as well.
It’s the men that cast them out, not God. Christ does not ever cast you out. It’s talking about loss of reward here. Not loss of salvation. I sure hope that helps you, Adam. Thank you for calling in. David in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Sounds like a beautiful place to live. He says, please explain Acts 22, 16. And I’m heading there right now, Acts 22, 16. And here it says, why terriest thou arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord?
Well what is interesting here, this is in verse 16 the comma after sins shouldn’t be there. It should read, arise and be baptized and then it should read wash away your sins, how? Calling on the name of the Lord. When you call on the name of the Lord, that’s how you get saved. It says in Romans 10, 13, whose whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. you call upon Jesus to save you and you trust him as your Savior, God saves you.
Here Paul was told by Ananias who led him to Christ. Paul is giving his testimony here in Acts 22 and he says, arises me baptized and then it says, wash away your sins, how? Calling on the name of the Lord. So we’re not saved by being baptized. We’re not saved by any means except by calling on the name of the Lord. And Jesus is His name. It is actually the contraction of two Hebrew words and it’s Yeshua in English, it’s Jesus.
And it really literally means God who came and took on human flesh, God who would save you the Messiah of Israel. And of course he is Jesus. And he saves you when you call upon his name. Hopefully that helps David. Good question. And you have to realize that the Greek language doesn’t have commas periods, exclamation points. And this was obviously an error in the King Jude Bible. They should not put up comma there. It should read as a straight statement.
Wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Okay, Jerry in Clearwater calls in and he says, if I had no choice but to be in the born in the state of being condemned, why should we have to choose to be saved from the state of condemnation? Well, the whole point is… The whole human race was condemned because of Adam’s sin. Obviously sin passed upon all of us and we don’t have to do a thing to go to hell but just die.
And if you die without Christ you’ll go to hell but God provided a Savior. And you must choose to trust that Savior in order to be delivered. There’s no other way. For God so loved the world let you that he gave his only begotten son Christ. Christ, why? Because you were headed for hell, but he says if you will believe in Christ, if you will trust Him, whosoever believed within Him should not perish. That is the course you are on right now to perish and be cast into the everlasting life of fire.
But it says you would not perish, but you would have everlasting life. Jerry, if you do nothing, if the human race did nothing, the whole world would go to hell. God has provided a Savior and when you receive that Savior God saves you. Jim and Tampa calls in and he says, I heard a preacher say every one of us was a spirit before we were born and we’re waiting a waiting for a body. Is this true? The answer of course is no.
Sounds like Mormonism. They claim that they are spirits coming here from the planet Cola and they have come here because Elohim set up a plan for manufacturing bodies here on the planet Earth and that’s where Jesus came is the Adam God back in Genesis. Adam was really Jesus and the Adam God started having babies and the earth began to be filled with people so that the spirits from the planet Colocut and dwell them. So the Mormons are really aliens visiting here on the planet.
They’re taking over bodies that were created by Jesus, the Adam God and Genesis. A really bizarre and crazy story. Don’t buy into Mormonism. They are really, really way off track. They buy their own admission. If you read their history, our aliens visiting here from the planet Cola, look out. There might be a Mormon nearby. We now have Tony in Largo, Florida. Tony says during the Thousand Year Rain, who will be having children? Good question. The millennium begins with only believers and those believers are the ones who get saved during the tribulation period and they survive, they don’t die, they’re still in their mortal bodies.
Now you and I as believers, Tony, will come back and rule and reign with Christ during that thousand years, but the actual subjects of the millennium are people in their human bodies, mortal bodies that have not died, and they will have children, their children will grow up and marry and have children, and their children will grow up and marry and have children, and so on. And so the Earth’s population will become great by the time of the end of the thousand years.
So Tony, the ones children during the millennium are those that are saved, still Still inner mortal bodies have never died and will move into the thousand years and have children. Call our George in South Carolina. Can you explain John 931 in the light of the first few versus lovely. of the Acts 10, the story of Cornelius. Let me go to John 931 and see what it says, and George is calling in from South Carolina. Somewhere there in South Carolina, a fairly good-sized state, so somewhere.
I’m turning, I’m turning, I’m turning, I’m almost there, and here we are in John 9 and verse 31, it says here, Because here, now we know that God hereth not sinners. If any man be a worshiper of God and doeth his will, him he heareth. Now we’re talking about, you know, you have to rightly divide the word of truth, George, and God hears everything. He knows everything. There’s nothing that escapes his eyes. But for a lost person who is seeking the truth, they certainly, their prayers are heard by God.
Cornelius was lost, but he was seeking the truth. God revealed to him that his prayers had been heard. He was told to find Peter. Peter would tell him how to be saved. Then after you become saved, the key to having your prayers heard in the sense that they’re answered by God in a positive way. You can say, every day, God, give me a million dollars and they give me a million dollars and they have no answer. As a believer, obviously, you have to recognize that God puts limits.
He doesn’t just give you anything you want. Nor would you, if you’re a parent, you have children. If your child says, look, I would like a cobra for a pet. You wouldn’t get it to it. They might beg every day, give me a cobra. Give me a cobra. You say, I’m going to get a cobra. I’ll give you a kitty cat or a hamster, but you’re not going to get any cobra as a pet. The parents are wiser than the child, and God is certainly wiser than we.
And he obviously separates out. So there’s a difference between hearing the prayers of the lost and hearing the prayers of the saved. Some saved people aren’t going to have their prayers heard or basically the answers are not. answer. answered because they’re asking a miss. James says you have not because you asked not and also you have not because you ask a miss that you may consume it upon your lusts. So James gives us warning in James 4 how to pray correctly so we can get yes answers.
We’re going to go to Gene in Tampa, Florida and Gene welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Good morning. This morning you Timothy? That’s correct. That’s great. That’s really little. Why don’t you teach also the woman will not be saved because it says that in the next verse, will not be saved unless the best children. No, that’s not what it’s saying. It’s saying… It’s saying that when they have children, they’ll have a lot of pain and a lot of difficulty.
And a lot of women, of course, today, a lot of women died in childbirth. Today, we have these C-sections where the baby is going to have difficulty coming out through the birth canal. They kept the woman taking the baby out and both the baby and the mother lives. Prior to modern surgery, a lot of mothers died in childbirth. I know that I’ve heard stories within my own family of mothers dying way back when in the past that very means.
It’s talking about that was part of the curse upon the woman back in the book of Genesis. It’s talking here about a physical salvation, not about eternal salvation. God would save them from the from death when they bore their child You want to read it? Okay. I’ll go back and read it for you But that I’m telling you is what it’s talking about so my childbirth and being saved in childbirth I’m headed there. I’m headed there and Sometimes the pages don’t turn quickly.
It says Adam was not deceivers 14, but the woman was was in the transgression, notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing. And that’s what it’s talking about. In childbearing she will be saved as the Lord will obviously deliver her through that if they continue in faith and charity and hold in this sobriety. So there is a blessing there if the woman is obedient and serves the Lord that he will take care of that. But women can die in childbirth.
And that’s why you’d like to have a doctor involved and you’d like to do it in the hospital to make sure that the mother and the baby survive. Thank you for the call, but it’s talking about a physical salvation there, not talking about women going to heaven talking about them being saved in childbirth from the curse. The curse was they would have pain and travail in the birth process. Okay, we have Saul down in Braden in Florida and he calls in and says, please explain Mark chapter 7.
Mark chapter 7 and He’s asking about verses 1 through 8, Mark 7. Almost there. And here we are. It says here about the Jewish traditions, about ritual baptism and how they would wash before they eat. And actually the Greek word there is Babtizmas. The Greek word is translated, Babtai is in English. And here it talks about how they would baptize the cups and the pots and the braids and vessels and tables. So literally, whenever you wash the dishes, you’re baptizing the pots and pans.
That’s right. And that’s what it’s talking about. I don’t know if I got the full question of what you’re really trying to get out here, but that’s an interesting passage about the baptism of pots and pans. One of the 10 baptisms I list when we talk about baptism that actually literally it means to wash or to cleanse and when you and the Greek word is the same word that means to bad past, past, past.
