We’re going to talk about the Bible for a little bit and then we’re going to take our call as your welcome to call in here at Bibleline. Our 800 number is 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Perhaps there is no verse in the New Testament so misinterpreted and misunderstood as Acts 238. Those who would like to add works to salvation, that is to faith alone, seem to use Acts 238 as their prooftext. Especially those who teach water baptism is necessary for salvation.
They try to use Acts 238 to support their position. What does Acts 2.38 really say? Here I’ll quote it for you, then Peter said in the event, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2.38. First of all, the word repent must be defined. Repent comes from the Greek word metanoia, which means a change of mind. The Greek word for repentance does not mean the turn from sin, or sorrow for sin as is so often taught.
Those who use Acts 2, 38 say you have to turn from your sin and be water baptized to be saved. That’s not what it’s saying. Repentance, by the way, in salvation means a change of mind. from any idea of religion that man might have and accepting God’s way of salvation. No one does the scripture use the phrase quote unquote repent of sin to be saved. Scripture does say in Acts 20, 21, repentance that is a change of mind toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Saving faith includes the change of mind which is called repentance. In Acts He says, in Acts 2, 38, the repentance is a change of mind about who is Jesus Christ. Peter had concluded his message in Acts 2, 38, and he preached on Pentecost, and in verse 36 he concludes by saying, therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus whom you have crucified both Lord and Christ. The point made was that Jesus and rather the Jews had crucified Jesus because they thought was a fraud.
In a posture, a counterfeit, not the Savior that the Scriptures had promised. And Peter is saying that the very same Jesus that they had crucified had proved by his resurrection that he is the Lord, that he is God, that he is Yahweh or Jehovah, and he is the Christ or the Messiah. And he says that in Acts 2.36. Then we find the crowd there were pricked in their hearts and they said, What should we do? And Peter says, change your mind.
He says, Repent. When Peter asked for repentance, he was asking them to change their mind about Jesus and acknowledge that Jesus Christ has God in human flesh, and he is the promise Savior that the prophets have spoken about. And it was later that Peter then said, Be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The word baptize simply means to wash, to cleanse, to fully well coming from the Greek word baptizo.
The word baptize does not always mean water. In fact, often it is used where there is no water at all. There are at least 10 baptisms taught to us in the New Testament and many involve no water at all. For example, there is the baptism of John the Baptist, there is the baptism of fire, there is the baptism of death, ther are the diverse baptisms of the Old Testament mentioned, there is the baptism of believers, there’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit, there’s the baptism of Jesus Christ, there’s the baptism of Moses, there’s the baptism of pots and pansthat’s right!
in Mark 7.4 and there is the baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus. Those are ten baptism taught in the New Testament and most of them don’t involve any liquid whatsoever. The baptism of fire, the baptism of death, the baptism of the Holy Spirit and so on don’t involve water at all. So therefore whenever you see the word baptize you need to ask yourself clearly which baptism When we talk about the context of a passage alone will sometimes determine whether it is water or not.
Now most people when they see the word baptize think of water and that’s a mistake and we need to be careful not to jump to the conclusion that we’re talking about water in X-T38. Note carefully what X-T38 says. It says, Be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ. And so it’s really saying here, Be baptized, washed, cleanse, fully, wound every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ. Isn’t there cleansing power in the name of Jesus Christ?
The answer is yes! Look over at 1 Corinthians 6, 11 with me. And here it says, in such were some of you. But you are washed. You are sanctified, you are justified, it says in the name. Notice it says you’re washed in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. In other words, if we look at Acts 2, 38 and define the terms, this should read or could read. Repent, change your mind about who Christ is and be baptized.
That means washed, fully wellmed, cleansed every one of you. the name of Jesus Christ, further mission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. I believe we can read this verse this way and this is the correct interpretation. The best way to interpret Scripture, of course, is to compare Scripture with Scripture. And can we do this with Acts 2.38? Yes indeed we can. In Acts chapter 10 we have a parallel passage where we have Peter saying after people had received the Holy Spirit already and were forgiven of their sins by believing on Christ, he says, can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Spirit as well as we.
If you look over there next 1043 we find Peter says if you believe you will receive the remission of your sins and then as they believed as he spoke the Holy Spirit came upon those believers and then Peter says what about water well can we forbid them from being water baptized now that they have already received the Holy Spirit. It’s amazing to me how many people have built their case on Acts 2.38. When it’s not baptism in water, it says baptism in the name, in the name, in the name.
Christ’s name is significant. He’s God who took on flesh. And in the authority that He’s given in His name, you can be cleansed of your sin and saved eternally. described it this way. God has issued a check to whosoever believeth, drawn on the bank of heaven in the amount of eternal life. And it is signed at the bottom in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the authority that He has as God, He offers eternal life to whosoever would believe or trust in His name.
And when you place your name in that blank check that is drawn in the amount of eternal life on the Bank of Heaven, you can receive that eternal life at the moment you believe. It is a gift. If you say that you must be water-baptized to be saved, you are adding an element of human works to salvation. And I believe you will not be saved, because if you pervert or change or alter the plan of salvation as given in the Word of God, you make it null and void.
Paul says clearly in Galatians 2.21, I do not frustrate. The Greek word for frustrate means to thwart, to nullify, to make void or to cancel the grace of God. And he says, if righteousness come by works or by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. In other words, he died uselessly. There is no purpose in his death if we could have earned our way to heaven. If you could He just changed your life and the water baptized to be saved.
Why did Christ die? Why did He leave heaven? Why was He crucified? He died because the only way to heaven is to trust in His finished work. And when you trust Jesus as your Savior, you are cleansed of your sin. You are washed, it says in 1 Corinthians 6 and 11, in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. Are you saved? Well, you’re only saved if you’re saved like the 9th he was. Was he water baptized?
No. Did he have opportunity to be water baptized? No. He was dying. And in the last and final moments of his life he said to Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom and Christ said to him, today, thou so be with me in paradise. You save my faith alone apart from any works, and that’s the illustration God has given us about how everybody is to be saved. If you’re not saved like the Ninth Thief, you’re not saved.
If you’re not saved by trusting Christ alone, then you’re not saved according to the Bible. And a lot of folks aren’t saved. You think they’re saved, and you know, the Bible will one day say that they’ll stand before the Lord and Christ will say, I never knew you. I believe those who are trusting in water baptism are not saved. If they are trusting in that as a part of the salvation package. To be saved you trust in Christ’s shadow blood alone.
It says in Ephesians 2 8 it is not of ourselves. It is not of ourselves or from ourselves. It is the gift of God not of works. Let’s give any man should boast. And water baptism is a work that we can perform after we are saved. I baptize a lot of people by immersion and I expect to baptize people in the Jordan River when I go to Israel in another month. But you know, water baptism doesn’t save. It’s a testimonial on the part of the believer that they’ve been cleansed of their sin, not in water.
Water can’t take away your sin, but by the blood of Jesus Christ. And when we water our water baptized, we give testimony that Jesus washed us. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bibleline. It’s great to be with you today. We’re looking forward to talking with you. You can call us here at 1-800-576-3771. We have Jim waiting in Clearwater, Florida, and we’re going to talk to Jim and we’d like to take your call. So please feel free to call him.
Jim, welcome to Bibleline. You’re on the air. Hello. Hi, Jim. You’re on the air. Hey, Hank. I didn’t listen to you guys in a while, and I was listening, and on Friday. and then on Friday. And it kind of fits with the topic you’re on this morning and the question that I tend to struggle with with your position on the non-lawship side is it appears that the, you know, John 831 states that you’ll know my disciples in deed, they abide in my word, they’ll know the truth and the truth will set them free.
And in my ministry it seems that the proponents of Americans believe they’re saved because they’ve either been to a billy grantors say to himself said you know eighty to ninety percent of people who walk down as he’s standing in the pulpit he’s standing there thinking that tomorrow morning will mean nothing to them and i have a hard time because the majority of americans need to get lost before they can get saved because they’ve participated in this act and this you know that the the the generality of the change of mind apart from repentance and the absence of true change and giving assurance and comforting people you know can be believed in the same way that someone believes that george washington was the first president i’m concerned with what you’re conveying for the sake of false assurance and uh…
yes that’s not what i’m saying it is a stop for a second here i believe you have to trust the english word believe uh… does talk about that as sent to uh… uh… facts like george washington was the first president but the bit of the word to sue means to trust, to rely upon, to put your confidence in the rest your weight upon. And when you trust in what Jesus accomplished at the cross, you become saved. And the passage you mentioned in John 8, there’s two different things going on there.
He spake and told them that they believed or trusted on him. The Greek word is to trust the stew of. It says here, as he spake to them, many believed on him. Then, Jesus said to those that believed on him, now he’s talking to our saved group, He’s confronting them with a second decision. If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed? So disciples are those who choose them to follow Christ or serve Christ after they have believed or trusted Christ as their Savior.
For myself I trusted Christ and I knew I was saved, no doubt about it. But it wasn’t until a full year later that I had made my decision to be a disciple and follow after Christ and live for him. And by the way, this message doesn’t do what you think it might do. In fact, I have people serving the Lord on V con, it’s right now that I have led to Christ and discipled and they’re on the mission fields, they’re in pastorates, they’re teaching in Christian schools and sometimes they have started Bible college.
I have one over in Belgium that is a guy led to Christ who has a Bible college in Belgium in Europe and these people are living for the Lord and love the Lord and serving the Lord but they know they are not saved by their works and they don’t have to do one work to get into heaven and we don’t have to change to be saved. If you say you have to change to be saved then you are adding works to the final salvation and I believe these are the very people that Jesus talks about in Matthew 7 and they will say Lord look at what we did Why we preached in your name, we healed in your name, we did many, many wonderful works in your name and Christ will say I never knew you.
So they were trying to be saved by their works and as long as you’re trusting in any human work to save you, you won’t be saved at all. So that’s the scary part and I think most of these people like you mentioned that go to these meetings are really led to believe that they have to do works to be saved and that’s why nothing happens because they’re still trusting in what they’re going to do. They’re told at a Billy Graham crusade if the turn from your sin to be saved.
And yet Billy Graham will have the choir singing at the crusade just as I am. I come. It’s a complete contradiction. He says turn from your sin, the choir says no, don’t turn from your sin. Come just as you are. And there’s a lot of confusion as a result because it’s not a clear message when he’s saying turn from your sin, the choir says don’t turn from your sin. So eternal life is a gift. But it’s important that once we have that gift, we then make a second decision to serve.
It says we’re created in Christ Jesus on two good works, if he’s in 210. And I’m constantly sending people out in the ministry that know that they don’t have to do one. Therefore, the disciples and the disciples, the disciples, are two different weapon groups. But the disciples need to be saved, to be saved, to be saved, and to be saved. But the disciples can’t be a disciple, or to be saved. The disciples, they are in the Arduino. They are right here in John 8, the one that you quoted, and here he talks to people that are lost.
They believe on him. Then he talks to those that are believers in verse 31 that have just become believers and says, if you continue in my word, then are you my disciples. So to continue in his word is what is a qualification to be a disciple, but to be saved, you simply trust Christ. Well, when you people in the church and the reality then is Hebrews 4-1, is Hebrews 10-29, then only directed at disciples. So if you advance to the next level, then and only then are you to fear, let us fear.
Listen, you have to come short of it knowing that our hearing of the gospel was not mixed with faith as opposed to those who departed or knowing that those who continue and sin that they can no longer return. I mean, are you saying which class does it apply to? Well, you have those who are disciples and those that are believers but not disciples. You can be a believer and not be a disciple. And I think most Christians are in that category.
And then you have people that are disciples that are not believers. Judas, for example, was a disciple, but he never was a believer. And Judas went to hell because he never trusted Christ as his Savior. In Hebrews chapter 4, it talks about the consequences of a believer not living for Christ and how that as the children in the wilderness, they were redeemed from Egypt by the blood of the Passover Lamb. But now they died in the wilderness, so we’re talking about loss of life, physical life, we’re talking about loss of reward, loss of joy, loss of victory, loss of testimony, loss of effectiveness.
The believer can experience all of those as he chooses not to live for Christ and there it tells us that there was a whole group there that died in the wilderness, they wondered forty years and never achieved the Christian victory. They were saved. They were delivered from Egypt by the blood of the Lamb. They were a redeemed people but God took their lives and they never obviously accomplished what brings about rewards and joy in your life. Jim, I got to move on to the next call, but thank you so much for your input.
We now have Buddy in Odessa, Lake Odessa, Michigan, and Buddy, welcome to Bibleline You’re On The Air. Good morning, Pastor. Good morning. Yes, and we have it now. In Acts 2.38, and there it says, then Peter said unto them, amend your lives and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ with remission of sins. And in the note of the side says, he speaks not here of the form of baptism, but teaches that the whole effect thereof, consists of in Jesus Christ, which I think is closer to what you were saying.
That’s very interesting and I do have a copy here now that I think we may be voting it through. for you, but we do have the Geneva Bible now, which was published prior to the King James version and it’s very interesting to see the subtle differences. Yes, sir. Well, thank you for sharing that with us. I’m aware of that and I’ve had encounters with them and also the Church of Christ. And they, in fact, some of these people have bumper stickers that say X-238.
They sometimes put those magnetic signs on the side of their car, X-238, because they really want to make sure that you get that message that you have to be water baptized to be saved. Absolutely. And that’s not true. If you were never water baptized, you’d still be saved. But I believe everybody ought to be water baptized as a testimony. Right. Well, thank you, buddy. Thank you. All right. There was buddy up there in Lake Odessa, Michigan. We just had a family visit our church yesterday from Michigan.
Well, we are coming to the end of the program here. We have more colors and, but let me just take a minute to tell you that we’re so glad to be able to be with you. I want to thank all of you who pray for us, all of you that give to Bible and because you’re the ones that make it so possible for us to be on the air. We are totally list or supportive and we have a partnership with our listeners that is real because we really don’t have any other source and we just added my We need help from all of our listeners to help us get these new areas going and build an audience that will He said, I’m going to give $1 a day to Bibleline.
She’s been faithful to do that every month. She gives that $1 a day. She said, she’s so glad she’s made that decision. I believe that she’s influenced others. I heard about that lady. wife and I decided we would give $1 a day. If you could give a gift to Bibleline, it would be very helpful. You could call our 800 number and our operators could take your gift by credit card over the phone or you can call in and ask for an envelope to be sent with our address on it and mail your gift to Bibleline.
You can also give on the internet on our online bookstore so you can give on our secure website on our online bookstore by just a It’s punching in the information and do it on the internet by credit card. In any case, we have to run. We’ll come back and take a break here and come back into a second half hour by blind. I hope you’ll remain right here with us and we’ll be right back after this short break. Don’t go away.
Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Well, I’m not going to do that. I’m Dr. Englund from It’s Great to Be With You. Thank you again for tuning in to my line, and we look forward to being with you each and every day. Getting ready to go to Israel, they told me that we could still invite you if you want to get on board with us. Please call and let me know, and we’ll try to do what we can.
Obviously, it’s more risky about getting a ticket for you because of the lateness of the hour. But I’ve been told that they’ve actually put people on a trip up to two days beforehand, If you have your passport already and there’s a seat available on the flight going over and coming back, you’re in. So give me a call. We’ll try to work that out. If it’s possible, if it’s not, we’ll tell you you’ll have to try to go on the next trip.
But I’d love to have you go on this one. Also, we want to thank you for praying for us and we’re excited about how God is using this program to win lost people to Christ, to get lost people challenged then to know only trust the Lord by the second decision we talked about where you become a disciple and live for Christ. And obviously every believer ought to become a disciple, every believer ought to live for Christ, and every believer ought to be telling others about Christ.
And that’s a decision that everybody really ought to make, but it has nothing to do with how we’re saved. By the way, we’re teaching 1 Peter, those CDs and DVDs of the class are certainly available If you want to call and order them, we also have some wonderful books by Clarence Larkin that have charts that really just give you a visual on everything and chapters that explain everything. These were written about a hundred years ago and they’re marvelous and I encourage you to call.
We have a Distantational Truth, the Book of Revelation, the Book of Daniel, a rightly divided into word of truth, the Spirit World and also the Second Coming of Christ, all these books by Clarence Larkin, which are jewels, gems, and I don’t think there’s anything better out there that’s been written more recently. So let me encourage you to take a look at that and look at our online bookstore online and come by and visit us during the week till about 4.30 and you can look at what we have here in our Resource Center.
We also have CDEs on about 40 different topics. of them are books of the Bible and you can use them to get yourself ready to teach a class on a particular study. We’ve had numerous people come by here that are teaching in a Sunday school or in some other environment and they wanted to get prepped up so they could teach it to their class and have gotten our CDs on the Gospel of John or Revelation or Daniel or whatever it is they’re interested in teaching.
We’re going to now return to the stations that have been on break and do the second half our Bible and so give your radio to right where it is and we’ll join now the other stations and do part two of Bible and would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lynch from a question you can just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771 that’s 1-800-576-3771 now here again is Dr. Hank Lynch from We are back from that break and this is Bibleline.
It is wonderful to be with you and thank you again for tuning in to Bibleline. It is so exciting to be able to get on the air and talk about the Bible and be able to answer people’s questions and maybe you have a question. You are welcome to dial in and we will try to answer your question or you can leave it off here and we have a bunch of offers. We will try to address today on today’s show.
So we want to remind you that we’re leaving for Israel February 25th, a 14-day trip, 12 full days in Israel. We’d love to have you go and apparently they told me that there’s a chance that you can still go. And so I just need to get ahold of you and talk to you so that you can, if you want to go, we can see if we can get you on board. That’d be a wonderful experience for you for sure.
Also tomorrow night if you’re living in the area come out and visit our first Peter class We are going to be teaching class five and six tomorrow night between 7 15 and 9 15 You’re welcome to be there in the class and if you can’t Get to our classes you might live in another part of the United States or the world you can order the CDs or DVDs of the class and and we’ll ship them out to you and you can watch it as though you were right here in the classroom.
That’s exciting. We hope that you’ll take advantage of that and join our class even by the Internet. You know, our worship services are there and we have had people all over Europe, Canada. We have even family in Australia watching a week ago and you’re welcome to take a look live on Sunday morning. If you click on the camera on the home page, you’ll be connected to the church services. And if you do it at 11 o’clock on Sunday morning, you’ll catch the service live.
And if you do it during the week, you can catch a year’s for the sermons that are waiting there in archive. And I hope you will take advantage of that. We hope to answer your questions today. We’re going to go back to the phone lines. It’s 1-800-576-3771. We’re going to go to Earl in Tampa, Florida and Earl. Welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Earlier you stated made a statement. That’s correct. Now with water. I’m inquiring about words, say, and drop, or add a letter and see them above heaven.
He that believe it’s and it’s not a letter. Sure. In John 3, Christ is not talking about baptism. He’s talking about a birth. I’ve had people, it’s amazing. Be taught wrong and just kind of, they’re blind to the words. I asked one person, where does it say in the Bible we have to be water baptized? He said, John 3-5. I said, would you read it to me? He said, sure. He said, except a man be baptized the water of the Spirit.
He cannot enter into the kingdom of God. I said, would you read that more slowly for me, please? I didn’t seem to read that way as I looked at it. And he said, sure. Except a man be baptized the water. And of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. I stopped him again. said, you know, I’m having trouble here seeing baptism. Would you this time stop and point your finger at the word baptism for me? Said, sure, no problem.
Except a man be whoops, and he put his finger there and says, born of water. B-O-R-N. There’s a tremendous difference between being born and being baptized. And if you don’t know the difference, obviously you got serious problems. But a birth is what it’s talking about. And the birth is in the context of John 3 is the natural birth where you’re enclosed in a sack of water in your mother’s womb and before you’re born the water sack breaks and then out you come.
And so this is the water birth and notice Christ is saying you have to have the flesh birth and then the spirit birth in order to interheaven. Nicodemus here that Christ is speaking to already had the water birth. He said to Nicodemus, you must be born again. In other words, he already had the first birth, which is the water birth, which we all have, unless you’re an alien or came into this world hatched out of an egg or something.
But we’re all coming from that water birth from our mother’s womb, and now we need to be born a second time and this time of the spirit. And so it’s not talking about water at all. In the other passage you just mentioned in March 1616. He, to believe it in his baptized, shall be saved. I believe if you read the context of Mark’s gospel, it begins in chapter 1 verse 8 where John the Baptist said, I indeed have baptized you with water.
But he, Christ, shall baptize you with what? The Holy Spirit. And that’s the end of water. That book, read all the way through the Book of Mark, no more water. And then you get to chapter 16, Christ has come back from the dead. He’s about ready to ascend back into heaven. And it’s Jesus Christ. speaking, and he says he, the belief in his baptized shall be saved. What baptism does he baptize with? Not with water, but with Holy Spirit.
And it’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit that is essential for salvation, and every believer experiences that baptism. First Corinthians 12, 13 says, by one spirit, are we all baptized into one body, whether we be bond or free or Jew or Gentile, and have all been made to drink into one spirit? the placing of the believer into the body of Christ. It happens for every believer at the moment of belief and the result is 1 Corinthians 12, 27, where it says, now then you are the body of Christ and members of particular.
You become a member in the body of Christ upon being baptized with the Holy Spirit. That’s the one that saves. He’s not talking about water. Water was done by John the Baptist. Christ never baptized anybody with water. He only baptizes with one baptism. That’s the Holy Spirit. So Earl, I sure hope that helps and we thank you for that call. We now are going to Carl in Tampa, Florida. Carl, welcome to Bibleline you are on the air. Yeah, Pastor Hank, let me ask you a question because I know that in New Testament, it seemed that there were things that were being done differently and I just need I want to ask you how do pastors deal that those churches together that are not married to what you have to say on that?
Well obviously it’s talking about discipline within the church and obviously a person like that should not be allowed to have membership but if they are members then they should be, it teaches shunning there that we’re to avoid them and to disfalship them to let them know that they shouldn’t do this. And if they leave the church, of course then God will deal with them directly. And God disciplines delinquent believers. But there’s very little of that practice in today’s modern church, that’s for sure.
But Paul warned about the sin in the The church obviously pollutes the church and it tells us there that it should be treated. A lot of times you, you know, I don’t think we’re to be detectives and go snooping on everybody’s lives. But if they openly admit that they’re committing these sentences, they shouldn’t be addressed and should be dealt with. And that’s what I would say that they, you know, because obviously we will know everything about everybody and only the Lord will eventually bring all those things out at the Judge and Seed of Christ and he will of course deal with it.
There will be suffering loss of reward at that judgment but also in the interim they’ll suffer the consequences of being of the liquid child and God chasing in their life. So the Lord will deal with it but certainly the church cannot condone sin that is openly done with him the church. Corinthians 5 talks about a man living in adultery with his mother and he says to deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of a flesh that the spirit might be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
So the man would be saved but the Lord allowed Satan I think to take his life and he died early as a result. We now have John in Tampa, Florida and John welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Good morning Hank. Good morning. Are you doing good? I have a question about the four gospels. Were they written on an eyewitness account? Were they what now? Were they written on a eyewitness account? Well, obviously these men were eyewitnesses but they were written…
written about 20 years after Christ had left, and the Holy Spirit directed the writing of it so we believe everything is accurate. In fact, Jesus said the Holy Spirit would… He said, I’m going to read a passage to you in John’s Gospel where Jesus said in John 1426, the comforter, which is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance. and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you.
So they obviously would have remembered perfectly what had been done and recorded that the scriptures for us. Okay, thank you for calling John and that was John and Tampa. We now have Ron in Jackson, go Florida. Ron, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Hey, good morning. Good morning. I have a couple questions for you and it’s more about pastors. I mean, you see pastors today and a lot of them falling by the way, so we have a… You have one in Jacksonville, his sign, and the other one is pastors that get involved in politics and stuff like Al Sharpton and some of these other guys on the Lord and all, but they lead in a violent way and I’m just wondering how to perceive these pastors.
Well, you know, I think a lot of them really aren’t pastors. They are politicians, but they use that reverend to probably be to their advantage. But you know, a true minister of the gospel, it tells us what they would be like in the scriptures. And so we need to be able to detect those that are real, those that are true. Some of these people, you can’t get anything on their doctrine. You don’t have a clue usually what they believe because they don’t talk about the Bible.
They don’t really talk about the scriptures, which is the way we are able to evaluate them. So I would say that they’re probably not even saved and they don’t know the Lord, but if you read 2 Timothy, which is Paul’s pastoral epistle to Timothy, he says the servant of the Lord, verse 24 of 2 Timothy 2, must not strive but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach patient in meekness, instructing those that oppose themselves. If God perdential will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth, that they may recover themselves under the snare of devil, of the devil who are taking captive by him at his will.
So obviously, if you read those descriptions and you compare them to what are claiming to be ministers sometimes. I think they’re not in the same boat at all. Obviously, we’re living in a time today when there’s a big departure from the Bible. We have to search out good men, godly men, who obviously proclaim the word of God and are obviously exhibiting all these qualities that we read about in the description that should be descriptions of the true man of God, the true pastor, the true preacher.
And I think if you do, you’ll find out, I think most of what we’re looking at is a counterfeit. I really feel most of Christianity is a counterfeit. I think most churches are teaching a corrupted message. It’s not a clear message like you’ll find in the scriptures. And as a result, there’s a lot of people confused by the church. And so I have people tell me all the time they have difficulty finding a good sound Bible believing teaching church anymore.
Seems like they’re becoming very rare. So thank you for that call. I hope that helps somewhat. Up in Jacksonville, Florida we had Ron there. We’re going out of Palm Harbor. We have George and George welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Hi, you can look through that. Hi, how you doing? Good. A couple of questions. Currency and spirit would cease, right? Yes. Now, when we’re having a Bible study and I’m getting the impression, but we haven’t gotten there yet, that the moaning and groaning that you type thing, how do you?
Good to read Romans chapter 8 and read the verse carefully. If you read Romans 8 it talks about the Holy Spirit, it talks about prayer, and this is the verse that they lean heavily on. It says here in verse 26, likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities. This is Romans 8, 26. For we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Holy Spirit himself make a finish session for us. for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
The important part is that last phrase because the Holy Spirit, when he intercedes on behalf, does it with groanings which cannot be uttered. As soon as they make one little peep out of their mouth, you know it’s not from the Holy Spirit. I say, can anybody hear these groanings? Oh, yeah. I’ve been in these meetings where people are moaning and groaning. I said, well, that’s not a God because the Holy Spirit intercedes with groanings which cannot be uttered. Okay, so that would be Roman day 20 say yep one assisted revelation so there really can be no Prophecy it’d be fortune talent because all the prophetic Prophecies, yeah, that’s right exactly right.
There’s no prophets today and no prophesying today and First Corinthians 13 8 said the gift of prophecy would cease along with tongues and the gift of knowledge When the New Testament record was completed and so that’s been made out with a hundred years ago And I was first Corinthians 13 8 right 8 through 10, huh? I’ll eat. I’m sorry. Great. I need 10. First. I need 8 through 10. Yeah. All right, my friend. Thank you very much. You’re welcome, George.
It was George. And we have an excellent book in our Resource Center here by Merle Unger. He’s the author of many books, The Unger Bible Dictionary. And he’s got commentaries on the Olden New Testament and other books. He was a prestigious scholar. And he takes, his book is called The New Testament Teaching on Tons. And this book absolutely exegetes all that in 1st grade and is 13. And when you get done with that study, you’ll see that there’s no wiggle room at all.
The gift of tongues, the gift of knowledge, and the gift of prophecy ceased 1900 years ago. All right, we are now going to go to, let’s see here, we have Michael in St. Pete. Michael, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes, good morning, Dr. Mike Furry was talking about the born of water and the spirit. Was this wondering, is it possible that that born of water is not really the amniotic fluid earth that it’s been washing with the word?
Well, I’ve… Well I’ve heard people try to make that case and it’s a nice attempt to try to explain a difficult passage. But if you read verse 4, obviously Nicodemus I think had a good feel for what Christ was saying because he says, I don’t understand this. He says, how can I, being old, go back into my mother’s womb and come out again. So he obviously was thinking about the flesh birth, wasn’t he? And then in verse 6, Christ obviously is referring to the flesh birth because he says that which is born in a flesh is flesh and that which is born in the spirit is spirit.
So here you have a verse right on either side, verse 4 and verse 6 surrounding verse 5 which is the question of over verse, talking about a flesh birth. And so the birth of water I think has to be that flesh birth without a doubt and that’s It’s a nice interesting application about the Word of God. The actual context demands, I think, the flesh birth and then the spirit birth being the second birth, the being born again part, the crisis saying we have to have a second birth.
Okay, but so it wouldn’t matter that you know a baby was delivered cesarean or you know that it wasn’t a you know a normal… No! No, not at all because again the baby is enclosed in that amniotic fluid or the water. a common term that you used, did the water sack break or did you hear it all the time just before the child is born. Sometimes the water sack breaks early and then the child comes out hours later. But definitely that has to happen first so the baby doesn’t come out.
As long as that sack is intact and the flu just don’t know the baby isn’t coming So that’s just one of the final signs before the baby is born. And they’re necessary and they simply have to cut it open. It’s still the same thing, but it’s just not through the birth canal. Okay, so in the case of aborted babies having a flower. Of course, all infants under the age of accountability go straight to heaven, period. I like the verse in 2 Samuel 1223.
David had a child that was sick and prayed for seven days. Seven days old had died and David said the baby will not return back to me but I’m going to go to be with that baby. We know David wouldn’t have him. So David knew that he would see his child again in heaven as it died in just seven days of age. Okay, and but those who would think that that come in was any sleepover, but it’s certainly not water baptism You’re very welcome and those other explanations.
I think are Obviously ways of explaining it Because otherwise what is this birth of water, but that is a You know a nice explanation, but I believe the context demands its the flesh birth without a doubt It’s verse four, verse six, verse five is in the middle and you’ve got it squeezed with a verse on the other side that’s clearly talking about the flesh birth. Okay, we’re now going to go to Ron in Jackson, Michigan. Welcome to Bibleline Good.
Good. Hey, last evening my wife and I visited some friends at a good old Baptist church and they had a special speaker speaking about home times. And I heard something I’ve never heard before. before and wondered what your opinion was. The preacher spoke from Jeremiah chapters 50 and 51, 18, and he was teaching about the description of a future Babylon. He explained why he didn’t believe it was a past but a future Babylon that he felt was a very good description of future Babylon being America and predicting the destruction of America and I wondered what your opinion was about that.
I agree 100%. That’s exactly what I was talking about. It’s already here. It’s not future. We are today Babylon. We’re the extension of that image of Nebuchadnezzar in chapter 2 of Daniel. as the image grew, the toes are already here. I believe the nations of Europe come together and the image is complete finally and now it will stand again as Zacharias says on its base. So apparently when the Western countries have got their feet planted in Iraq, that’s when Jesus is coming back.
So I think we’re very close. Alright, we’re now going to go to, let’s see here. We have Larry in Mason, Michigan, and we’re going to go to Larry. Larry, welcome to Bibleline You’re On The Air. Yes, Dr. Lindstrom. I wanted to make a comment or two about John chapter three. Okay. And regarding the water birth, we, our bodies are made up of a large portion of water and date back. It takes about £2.00 a day to keep it. keep us going.
That’s a pint of pound, the boil around. Uh-huh. And the other comment is that the Nicodemus in that same chapter. And no, it’s It’s not these things, so sometime along in history they had departed preaching the type of things that Nick Davis was supposed to have learned. We absolutely right. I think the new birth is in the Old Testament. It says it’s… that basically they had a, it was called a circumcision of the heart rather than of the flesh.
And the flesh birth was represented by the physical circumcision, but he talked about a circumcision of the heart, Jeremiah especially, talked about that, which I think is exactly the new birth. And he just, exactly. Exactly. He placed in them a new heart. Exactly. And also that in the 11th chapter of Hebrews it talks of all those people that were saved and it talks about them being saved by faith. Amen. Amen. nation You’re absolutely right and Larry think I’ve got to run because the time is really running out here on me But we’re excited to be with you and we’ll be with you the rest of the week We’ll be back tomorrow and then Wednesday and Thursday and Friday and again.
