If you have not trusted Christ as your Saviour, then you need to trust Him now! You will receive eternal life and the forgiveness of your sins the moment that you trust that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried and rose again from the dead. He is your only hope of reaching heaven. If you simply trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you can be sure before you die that you will be going to heaven.

We also have the previous one about the Assyrian which is a title for the Antichrist and how becomes the Assyrian, not by birth, not by nationality, but by conquest of the countries of the Middle East and you’ll find it a fascinating blow-by-blow story of the unfolding of what you see in the newspapers right now.
Very exciting in the area of prophecy. We also have new DVDs ready to go. One is called the Accuracy of Bible Prophecy. An incredible prophecy that actually tells the date of the founding of Israel over 2500 years before it happens. I mean this is incredible. This will curl the skin on your arms. And you have to admit that the Bible is indeed the word of God when you see these things. In any case, if you are living down in South Florida, our television program will be aired out of West Palm Beach on Channel 61 at 8.30 to night eastern time.

Just go to my website, click on the link it says on the right side if you’d like to add this flash presentation to your website, click here and it tells you how to pull that off. We’d love to have you get involved in a baptism if you are in driving distance and you have not been water baptized since you have been saved. No such thing in the Bible is infant baptism. No such thing as baptism prior to your salvation and counting.
It’s a testimonial. If I have been cleansed of your sin by the blood of Christ and we’re going to have one Sunday, the 20th of August, the third Sunday, we’re going to have a dinner that day, which everybody’s invited to come and come to the morning worship. Stay for dinner. And then right after that will be headed to a home very near the church where we’ll have a baptism in a lake And we’d be delighted to include you if you have not been water baptized And you would like to have us include you.
I’ll never forget I was in Israel and I was baptizing a group that I’d taken from this country to Israel in the Jordan River. There was a man on the shore observing. He sent word out to me as I was out there in the river baptizing people. Could I please baptize him? I had him come out into the water and talked about his salvation. He said he had been listening and heard the messages. There are usually different tour groups around and I preached to the crowd on the shore and then we gave the gospel and then we sort of baptizing.
Well anyway it turns out that he was from Africa visiting Israel and he had a taxi there and he was traveling all around observing and he had wanted to be baptized in the Jordan River. And you know it was like my Ethiopian Munich story because as Philip baptized the Philip, the Opununica man from Africa. Here was somebody from Africa that wanted to be baptized and I included him and we baptized him and he was so happy and he drove off and our busload of people drove off and and I’ll never forget that and I know we’ll see each other in heaven again but maybe you’d like to be included and you’ve been wanting for someone to baptize you and if you don’t have a church where they practice baptism by immersion or if you don’t have a church and you live in driving distance, you’re most welcome on
August 20th, the third Sunday to be included in our baptism. We’re going to take phone calls if you have your phone there handy and you got a phone, a pencil to write down the phone number, it’s 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. We had a question yesterday from Fred up in Richmond and he was asking about as a heel in chronicles and in kings. And I believe the answer is, and I believe it says, and I’m reading now from the Jamison Faucet Brown commentary that we have.
And this is a wonderful commentary. It generally has an answer and it says as a heel or as a heel. This officer, having been slain at the very beginning of David’s reign, his name was probably given to this division of scripture in honor of his memory and his son was invested with the command. So, there you have the answer and I hope that helps Fred, you asked that question yesterday and I would take a look at an answer. And I have been wonderfully pleased with the Jameson Fossep Brown commentary.
has an answer usually for every verse of scripture. Believe it or not, it’s just an amazing thing. It’s well over 100 years old and worth its weight in gold. And then I also like very much the J. Vernon McGee commentary through the Bible, five volumes, and that one retails I think for 200. We have it for a gift of 100. This Jameson Posit Brown I think retails for about 140, we have a forgive of 90, and it’s a marvelous resource to have on your shelf.
And I turn to it often, and generally, as in this case, it has the answer. So there you have the answer. He was not living at the time he’s recorded here in this passage, but he was probably added in honor of his memory. So there you go. And so the commentaries and the things that we have here in our Resource Center are really good. And that’s why I recommend them. We save you a lot of effort because you go out to the Christian bookstores and my goodness and I’ve done this.
I’ve got thousands and thousands of books and a lot of them really are worth a whole lot as far as the information in them. And so I recommend this one. We’re going to go right now to Tony in Richmond, Virginia. And Tony, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yes sir, I have two questions and then I’m just going to hang up and lift it. One question is can you explain the context and how it’s used in the context of Hebrews 10 verse 26, I think to 32 or 36.
My second question will be to explain to somebody. I know somebody in my family who is, when we talk about the rapture, they are scared because they believe they’re just fearful. They feel like there’s something that they need to repent of at all times. And even though they ask for forgiveness and steer away from bad things, they always feel kind of fearful of that, that they’re going to be, I know they’re still fearful. Sure, I understand. My other question is for Zach, because I know that we’re supposed to ask that the independence all of the sin but we spend and we deal with these things you know as Christians you know just like everybody else were not were centered were all centered so my question will be how to come come answer that question for them and then the other one was please explain the
context how to use them Hebrews 10 verse 26 verse 36 and I’ll thank you. Okay we’ll do that Tony thank you so much Tony in Richmond Virginia and by the way this All this confusion comes because of a bad translation of the word repent. The Greek word you have to write it down is meta noia. Two words really. Meta meaning change, M-E-T-A, noia, N-O-I-A, meaning mine, the two together meta noia, meaning change of mine. And repent does not mean to turn from sin or to be sorry for sin.
And the word repent is used in the New Testament usually about a change of mind about who is Jesus Christ. That is exactly what Peter was saying in I chapter 2 when he preached to a crowd that had crucified Christ. He said, you rulers of Israel, you by your wicked hands have taken crucified Jesus Christ and he then goes on to proceed to point out that Christ is God and he is the Messiah. the conclusion of his message in verse 36 when he says, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that this Jesus.
Then he identifies him as the one whom you have crucified have made him both Lord and Christ. Lord there means he is gone and then Christ means he’s the Messiah and they said what should we do in Peter says repent of course the Greek word means to change your mind. So they needed to say wow we made a mistake. We thought he was an imposter we thought he was a fraud we thought he was a counterfeit but indeed he was the Messiah and they changed their mind and believe on Christ as their Savior and what they did.
Savior and were saved. So this is really what it means. So many people are left in bondage because of the wrong definition of repentance, where they are told they have to turn from their sin to be saved, which is not true. God saves us just as we are. I love that hymn by the hymn writer who wrote, Just as I am, I come without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me. So I don’t come saying, God, I turned for my sin, or God, I did this, or I did that, or you come just like you are, just as I am I come, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me.
And it’s only the blood of Christ that can wash away your sin. If you had to turn from sin to be saved, then that would add an element of human works to the plan of salvation. And that would contradict all the rest of the Bible concerning God’s offering a free gift of salvation that He purchased fully by His death and shed blood at the cross of Calvary. So salvation is a gift and we simply receive it by faith. It tells us over in Romans 5 that while we were yet in the state of sinning, that Christ died for us.
Romans 5 verse 8 says, God commended His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners or yet in the state of sinning or in the act of committing sins, Christ died for us. So Christ died for us that say that you have to stop sinning before God will save you is craziness. That is not what the Bible teaches. And the Bible teaches that God so loved the world. It even tells us in 2 Peter that Christ died to pay for the sins of those that are false prophets and those who hate God and tells us that they are going to go to hell because Because they reject the Lord that bought them.
Second, 1 Peter chapter 2 verse 1 says that they reject the Lord, they deny the Lord that bought them. Christ bought them at the cross. He paid for their sins. But because they reject Christ, that’s the unpardonable sin. They wind up going to hell. So you can tell them that they don’t have to worry about them. Because once you trust Christ, you are forgiven of your past, present and future sins. And I know some people just kind of roll their eyes when I say that, but they say, well, I haven’t even committed my future sins.
How can that be? And of course the answer is when Christ died, all of your sins were future. You weren’t even born yet. God looked into the future. He saw your whole lifetime transpire. He saw when you’d be born. He saw when you would die. He took every sin he would ever commit and paid for them all at the cross, and he even has died for those that will be yet born tomorrow. So their sins are all future. They haven’t committed any sin yet.
And yet Christ died for their sins because he saw them in the future and paid for all of them. So once you trust Christ, you’re stuck. You’re saved forever. And Christ promises in John 6.37. He’d never cast you out for any reason. John 639 even better, he says he would not lose one person who ever becomes saved. So wow, that is a great news and Tony assured them that they don’t have to worry about that. And again, you don’t ask for forgiveness.
You trust Christ as the one who died for you. These on the cross asked for salvation, but only one of them was saved the one that trusted Christ. That’s important to know. T-R-U-S-T is the best English word to describe. The Greek word is translated and believed. You must trust that Christ died for you in order to be saved. And so when you trust Him, you’re saved forever. Hebrews 10, if you go to my website and you go to articles written by Dr.
Lindstrom, you can get the article like we’re very creatively called it Hebrews 1026. I titled it by the verse because this one comes up often and it’s really talking about how that we don’t need another sacrifice. The sacrifice of Christ is efficient to save us eternally even if we sin willfully or though We sin, Wolfley, it can be translated that way. But if you’ll notice earlier, it says in verse 10 of Hebrews 10, in the context, by the will of God, we are sanctified, made pure and holy, through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Then it says in verse 14, for by one offering he hath perfected for how long? Forever! Forever! Forever them that are sanctified. So then he says in verse 17, there are sins and iniquities. Well, I remember no more. He forgives them forever. Their sins are forgiven forever. They’re perfected forever. And obviously they can be assured of going to heaven. Verse 18 says, Now where remission of these is, that is their sins, there is no more, no more, no more offering for sin.
The same truth is that they are not. repeated in verse 26, but even if you sin willfully, or though you sin willfully, after you’ve received the knowledge of the truth, after you became saved, there still remain eth no more, no more, no more, sacrifice for sins. You don’t need another sacrifice. Jesus saved me eternally. I don’t need to look for another sacrifice. I don’t need to go back and become saved again. But then the following verses warn about God will judge the believer and he’ll spank you.
It says over in verse 30, the Lord shall judge his people. And that is those that are believers, those that have become saved. And in verse 31, it’s a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. God can spank you. It can even take you home to heaven early. Hebrews chapter 12 goes on and details it further and says for whom the Lord loves, he chases or disciplines and scurges every son whom he receives. In other words, when you receive into the family of God as a son or daughter by the new birth by trusting Christ, God then as a father will discipline you when you are delinquent.
Verse 8 of Hebrews, chapter 12 says, If you are without this discipline, where of all of God’s children are partakers, it says you are a bastard and not a son. A pretty strong word in the King James, but what it is saying is that you are not saved. You are illegitimately claiming to be a son when you are in reality a bastard and not really you want to God’s sons. But if you’re truly born again, you cannot live as you please.
God will discipline you. And if you don’t listen to the discipline, he’ll take you out to heaven early. Tony, I hope that helps. And you’ll find a further discussion in the article that I wrote on my, in the Dr. Lynch’s articles on my website, you can download it. That’ll, I hope, will help you. All of our lines are clogged up, filled up, and we’re going to go now to Jonathan in Permano Beach, Florida and Jonathan welcome to Bible and you’re on here.
Oh Dr. Lindstrom, this is Jonathan. Yes sir. I so enjoyed visiting with you and your wife as you flew up to our worship service on Sunday that was wonderful and and I hope we get to see you again Okay, Dr. Linson, I have two questions from a young lady that she’s interested in knowing about the speaking of tongues and she has a question about hiding as well. Okay. Well, speaking in tongues was a genuine gift of giving a foreign language to someone without any training and that it was to be used for evangelism.
What is being done today is a gibberish that is not the genuine gift. The genuine gift ceased in the first century and 1 Corinthians 13, 8 through 10 tells us that it would cease, that it would come to an utter halt when the New Testament record was complete. But when you read about the The true gift, make note of Jonathan 1 Corinthians 14-9 where it says, except you speak by the tongue, words easy to be understood. You just speak into the air and you’re just wasting your breath is what it’s saying.
So unless she’s speaking words that are easily understood by others, that the person’s language that they were born and raised with is the language that they’re hearing when you speak to them and they hear words easily understood, you don’t have a gift. What you’ve got is a gibberish. Also, 1 Corinthians 14-22 says, puns are for a sign, not to those that believe, but to those that believe not. So it’s a sign to unbelievers. Is this person you’re referring to using it with unbelievers and are people regularly getting saved?
I doubt it. Nobody’s understanding this gibberish, not even the person speaking it, much less the person hearing it. But the real gift was to go to somebody who spoke of four language, be able to tell them the gospel in their language, they would easily understand it. Understand it and they would become the same and so I challenge people if they claim they have the gift I say let’s go try it out. Let’s get my car. Let’s go to the mall.
I’ll get a crowd together I might have to freak out But I’ll get a crowd them all together and then I will introduce you you can go ahead and do your gibberish And if you got the real gift here, we’re gonna have revival. I’ll buy you a steak dinner afterward I can’t wait to see the thing work. I’ve never had anybody go with me No one has got in my car yet and I’ve challenged hundreds and hundreds of hundreds of people to go with me.
Let’s try it out. Let’s go to them all. Let’s get a crowd. Let’s try this thing out in public. And they panic. They don’t want to use it in public. They don’t want to use it with a loss because the real gift is ceased. It’s no longer around. I hope that helps a little bit, Jonathan. Yes, yes, Dr. Lissard. That helps them. That helps them business. And one more thing about typing. Can you explain that to us quickly? Now, tithing was giving a tenth, and you see in the Old Testament that Abraham gave a tithe, Jacob gave a tithe, under the Old Testament law they gave a tithe.
But under grace in the New Testament, it doesn’t restrict us or tell us exactly how much. But I believe that a tenth is a good place to start giving. But if you read 2 Corinthians 8 and 9, it talks about giving under grace. It talks about that every man purpose in his own heart. So we have to decide as to how much to give of what God has blessed us. As somebody said, should we give less under grace than we gave under the demands of the law?
Some suggest we give maybe a little bit more than 10%. In any case, we should be giving. As we give, we’re investing in eternity and God is going to reward us for investing in eternity. Our giving doesn’t save us and our giving is not under the law. It should be giving not because of the need or grudgingly, but it should be from the heart. We have to go to break now and so I’m sorry, John, we’re going to cut you right now, but we will be back with Bible in Part 2 after this break.
Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. This is Dr. Englund’s treatment. This is Bible and we hope you’ve been enjoying today. It goes so quickly. I’ll tell you. And this doesn’t seem to be enough time to catch all the questions. Our phone lines have just been lighted up solid from the beginning of the program. We do have quite a number of off-air questions that we’d like to take care of as well.
So call in if you have a question and we’ll get you up on air or you can call in and leave an off-air question and we hope you’ll do that. Some new things we offer now, this video seven minute presentation for you to put on your website. If you have a website, you can go to my website as it begins. You’ll notice a flash presentation, a video presentation of the gospel, a simple presentation that I do. And over at the right, if you would like to have that for your website, click on there and it will tell you how to do it.
You can be my guest. This is free. We just want to get the gospel out. And a lot of websites now are including our video presentation. Also our television programs are being streamed. And you can go to my website, click on the television set in the upper right hand corner of the home page and you’ll be connected to our television programs. And while the quality is excellent, the sound is excellent, you’ll be able to watch, there’s about 20 programs in archive and you’ll get to watch the program of the week and you’ll watch programs in advance of their actually being seen on television.
We have a brand new program called the Accuracy of Bible Prophecy where we cover an amazing, incredible prophecy from Ezekiel that tells us actually the date of the birth of the state of Israel in 1948 over 2500 years before it happens and it’s incredibly accurate right on the money. And this has to just curl the skin on your arms to recognize that while the Bible tells the future in great detail, thousands of years sometimes in advance and this one and many other new ones that we have on prophecy are available now.
You can call our operators for the titles and you can order them on DVD. You can also watch our television programs, which by the way are edited down from the full 60-something minute video that you would get if you ordered the DVD. We are counting on our listeners to keep us going. It’s your prayers and your gifts. Keep Bibleline on the air. If you’d like to send a gift to Bibleline, you can or you can give a gift by credit card over the phone and just call our operators.
I’ll give you the address and tell you how you can do that. We’re going to rejoin the stations that have been on break. If your station doesn’t carry the second half of Bibleline, you can go to the internet and catch the full broadcast and listen to it as often as you want 24 hours a day, seven days a week from anywhere in the world. We’ve got to now rejoin the other stations. Keep your dial tuned right where it is.
and we’ll be right back. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lindstrom a question? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Alright, we’re back from that break and this is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bibleline. We’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios. at the Calvary Community Church. Tonight, tonight, tonight we’re having the classes. If you’re in driving distance, we invite you to come to the class on 1st and 2nd Thessalonians.
Tonight’s going to be a red hot night. It’s going to be all about the rapture. We’re going to have a great time. I know you’re going to enjoy it. We’d love to have you. If you cannot get here because you live in another city and in the state, or you’re listening online from another country, you can’t order the CD series of ten hours of teaching on 1st and 2nd Pestolomians 8 dynamic chapters in those two books and we’re covering it verse by verse you can order the ten hours of teaching.
And we’re excited about all the many things that we have. We answered a question today on the air from Fred up in Richmond, Virginia that is a question that generally you wouldn’t ask and generally Generally you wouldn’t find the answer to. But again the Jameson Faucet Brown commentary that we offer, which is one of my favorites. It really is. It always seems to have an answer about every verse in the Bible. And sure enough had a great answer as to why this man’s name was in this listing at this particular time.
And again Jameson Faucet Brown came right through. This is a wonderful commentary that comments on every verse of scripture in your Bible and is a three-volume unabridged set and generally runs $140 but we offer for 90 and it is a great asset to your library. If you’re looking for answers when you have a difficult question come your way. I turn to it often and like again, this was a quick answer for me because I went to the Jameson Foset Brown looked it up.
There’s the answer. Boom, done deal. And it is exciting. And so you might want to order that from us and we’ll ship it out to you. And also many of the things that we have in our Resource Center. We are streaming our television programs now as well as our radio programs. We have 140 countries now that have logged on to our website this year and we’re excited. The latest to our Ecuador in South America and and also Albania in Europe and near Greece.
And we’re excited about how countries all over Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Central America, North America have found our website and more and more we’re getting new people who are looking at the website, Enjoying it, listening to the radio programs, downloading radio programs which you can do for free. You just have to sign on as a listener and you can download them to your iPod. Also the TV programs can be downloaded to your video iPod and you can carry them around with you in that exciting, I tell you.
It’s just amazing this technology that’s out there and how we are able to bring this program to you from Calvary Community Church in Tampa to points all around the globe. It really is exciting. And we’re also broadcasting not only across much of North America, but also now we’re broadcasting in Honduras in Central America. The manager of the station came up to Tampa and took me to lunch and took a sack of our programs and is airing us there. being heard all over Honduras, the capital of Tagusa Galpa, the islands and other major cities were very excited about what God is doing with Bible.
We’re still hoping to get word that will get on the air in Guyana, South America, which which is the only country in South America where the official language is English. We have a missionary friend that is attempting to get us on the air there. We’re excited. Of course, the program in Honduras is being aired for free and the programs in Guyina will be aired for free. Our television programs are aired in Mongolia. That’s for free. I met the head of that station out in Dallas earlier this year.
He said I was exactly what he was looking for. because he wanted programming that would explain the basic teachings of the Bible. Boy, we hit it off and we’ve got lots of programs in his hands over there in Mongolia, and we are praying that God will do great, mighty things with Bibleline to reach the people of Mongolia with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We’re going to go right down to the phone lines, and the number is 1-800-576-3771 771 if you’d like to call and become a prayer partner and a partner with us to help us out financially to keep these things going with Byblind that would be also greatly appreciated.
But we’re now going to Shonda I think I’m pronouncing that right in Richmond, Virginia and Shonda welcome to Byblind you’re on the air. Alright thank you Dr. Hay, how are you doing? I’m doing good thank you. I just recently got married and my husband is a very strict Christian father and I have a question. I have two teenagers, well one of three teenagers. He does not allow them to watch any movie that contains a curse word or any kind of touching from a boy and a girl, even cartoons where they may have a kiss on the cheek.
He gets very upset about it. He also believes that my third hero was almost fourth, he can’t watch movies such as Superman and Spider-Man comic book movies that his friends get to go and see, which has made my son kind of upset and withdrawn. My question is, as a Christian, is it okay to shelter your kids so much so that they feel isolated and alone from the rest of their group at school? Well, I know what you’re talking about, and I think that there needs to be explanation as well and to teach them why he’s doing this more than just saying, no, you can’t do it so that they’ll understand why.
But I know today we have such a promiscuous society, and a lot of that is fostered by some of the programming, and obviously I think he has very good intentions, but I I think it has to be like the Bible says in Ephesians, speak the truth in love and he has to, I think, temper it with sitting down and saying, here’s why we’re doing this and here’s the explanation and show him that it’s really what, you know, if we’re going to please the Lord, then obviously God wants us to not fill our minds with things that that our contractors were.
And some people are less strict, and I think he can still win their confidence by, I think, with love and compassion and telling them why and explaining it, I think it can be accomplished. But I understand the struggle you’re going through there because this is something probably, probably is a brand-new dad to them is that correct yes they’re my kids from a previous marriage right now they are very well um… they’re very not like out here in the street or you know they’re not bad kids they’re very mature for the age of specially my thirteen and a half year old he comes to me like mom i know not the curse mom i know not to be with a girl but i think i don’t even like girls mom but i like spout of me and i do like Superman why can’t i go no
and the great mahar from town right i feel like i know that uncle’s a preacher and his daughter and his son were raped the same exact way and what they got eighteen they rebelled well that would happen sometimes they have to be very careful and in accomplishing what he’s trying to accomplish and uh… and they can take a lot of extra tenderness and love and explanation i think uh… so that it becomes their decision you know if you just enforce decisions and it’s not their decision.
And once they break loose from that… from your house or from your ruler from those rules at home, then they’re gonna just go wild. Oh no, I’m not so afraid of. He does talk to them about it, but they still just can’t understand and they come to me, you know, crying and upset. Sure. I guess it’s gonna be a transition. Like I said, we just got married for a month ago. I think you just need to sit down and talk with him and try to come to a way of presenting it to the audience.
to these children that they can, he can win their confidence that they would want to do it from the heart. What about if like you take every word of the Bible literally, is that good to do even as far as me and a woman shouldn’t touch, he takes it to the point of a cartoon where they might have a kiss and he’s like cut it off. Should you be that strict? Well, I don’t want to tell him how to do it, but I think that, you know, sometimes we can just go overboard.
You know, it tells us in first screenings chapter 5 that we’re not to associate with people that are foreignicators or thieves or extorsions and so on, but it’s just yet not all together because if you did, you’d have to leave the planet. I mean, otherwise you can’t go to the grocery store. You can’t do anything. I mean, so you You have to use some common sense here too. Right. So it’s a balance. You know, it’s a balance. Somehow you got to get balanced.
I love the book we have in our center here called Balancing the Christian Life by Charles Ryer. He’s a wonderful author. And sometimes Christians, this need to get a little balanced. We go too far one direction or the other and that is unbalanced. And so basically I understand the definition of insanity is unbalanced. I mean even to the poem that will keep you but spare the Ross Bowles child. He believes that extreme whipping will doubt and stuff and I was one of those kids who have whipped up with belts and it didn’t do anything.
If anyone leaves the house it’s insane. Exactly and perhaps he could get some good reading on that. are some good books that talk about how to discipline without, you know, physically hurting your child. Okay, well, I’ll look for your website and see what I can find. All right. Thank you for calling. That was Sean. Those are difficult questions as parents today, especially in this world in which we’re living where there is so much bad out there. How do we screen and how much do we screen so that we don’t turn them off, but yet we want to win them to do the things that please the Lord.
We’re going to go to Betty and Tampa. Betty, welcome to Bibleline your On the Earth. Good morning. Thank you for welcoming me. I have one question that my grandson-in-law has asked me and I can’t quite get the exact answer for him. Is there a verse which states that tongues actually cease or when did they cease? Exactly. First Corinthians 13, 8, or 10. We have a marvelous book called The New Testament Teaching on Tongues by Merle Unger. and he exegetes the passages there in 1 Corinthians that in particular that passage in 1 Corinthians 13 and he shows without a doubt that when the New Testament record was complete the tons came to an utter complete halt and it says there it actually lists three gifts that we’ve come to a halt the gift of knowledge and the gift of prophecy and the gift of tons.
They would be rendered unnecessary once we had the New Testament record. And so, tongues were a temporary gift. And as you read the New Testament record, you see that it was probably ceased even before the New Testament was finished, because when you read Ephesians written later than Corinthians, it’s no longer in the list of Ephesians 4 of the gifts. And when you read Romans written even later, when you read the list of gifts in chapter twelve of Romans, tongues has gone from the list in that list.
So apparently it began to decline and was withdrawn before the first century was over. And the reason why, of course, it was to enable Gentiles, rather Jewish people, read at Pentecost and the early Christians who were mostly all Jewish, to witness to other Jews in a Gentile language because God had promised in the Old Testament, and you read this in 1 Corinthians 14, 21, that the law or the Old Testament had said that God would speak to the Jews in other languages with men of other lips and other tongues while speaking to those people, and yet for all that they will not hear me say of the Lord.
So he in order to fulfill that at the very beginning he had to give the branch of the skip to Gentile languages to Jews. But as the gospel went out to the Gentile countries, then all of a sudden Gentiles became saved and they could witness the Jews in their country in that gentile language and fulfill the prophecy without having to have the miraculous gift. So I lead people to, I drew people to Christ. And I do it in English.
I’ve led many to Christ in several this year, but I do it in English and So I don’t need the gift of English. I’ve been born and raised with it But I tell Jewish people that are fulfilling prophecy because I’m not telling them about their Savior in Hebrew But I’m telling them in an English language Which is what the Bible said would be true of this age in which we’re living in and that’s what they it’s all about So it says in verse 10 of 2 Corinthians 13, when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
And we believe that which is perfect is really the word of God. In James 1.25 it calls the word of God perfect. In Psalm 19 it says the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul, making wise the simple. And so numerous references to the word of God is that which is perfect. And we believe that That’s the answer to when tongues did cease. Her history verifies it. Well, you went so good. I mean, you spoke so clearly.
But I didn’t get all the verses out. You mentioned 1 Corinthians 13, 8 through 10. That’s correct. That’s the actual. Is where it says it was cease, yes. OK. And Corinthians 14, 21, you say that. God had said during this age, that you the Jewish people would be evangelized by in Gentile languages. Okay, and the second Corinthians, what was that one? Well, I said in Ephesians 4 and Romans 12 where the gifts are listed in books written after 1 Corinthians that the tongues are off the list.
Okay, I’ve got those two. And you did mention second Corinthians as an additional before you said James 125. I don’t recall what I said about second Corinthians. I’ll read through the book and I’ll catch it. Okay, that’s what I needed to know. Thank you so much. You’re so welcome, Betty. And that book is really a treasure. Merle Unger wrote a number of books. He’s a great scholar. He’s the author of the Unger Bible Dictionary. And his book on, I think that’s what teaching on tongues is dynamic.
We’re going to Linda in Spring Hill, Florida. Linda, welcome to Bibleline You Are On The Air. Good morning, Dr. Haynes. A while back when a gentleman was calling in and addressing the saved and lose your salvation concept, I’ve been thinking, I went on, excuse me, Justin, I went on Helen’s website one day just out of favorites, you know, and I went to audio and I thought I’ll listen to one of And I listened to his teaching on Ephesians being in Christ.
And that was the most clear, concise message of just where we’re placed in the heavenlies and the whole thing. And when they get down with that, if they don’t believe that they’re saved eternally, then they’re blind. I just didn’t know if I should call on the suggested, but I know that you share Helen’s experience. Oh yeah, I like him. Right. And he believes salvation is by grace, not by works. Yes. Well, he just, you know, he did such a good job in this telling you your position in Christ.
And it just, it just, I don’t know, I guess it’s just so anointed, but it just lit up. And you know, hopefully if someone’s still struggling after all the wonderful information you give them, if they would go listen to that, I think that would help them a long way. Because I think, you know, some of the scriptures that when you don’t know in context, they make you feel like you can lose it. And then you read another one, you know, Romans, you’re saved.
And I think they feel so guilty. They hang on to the ones that found us if you can lose it. Well according to Ephesians as you’re saying to Hell, as you probably pointed out, is that we’re already seen in heaven as a believer in Christ. And so therefore we’d have to be, something to have to grab us and yank us out of heaven and pull us back down here to the earth if we were to lose our salvation. Exactly.
As far as God’s concern is a done deal, we’re already there in heaven. We’re already living there positionally. He sees us already seated in heavenly places in Christ’s Jesus. Exactly. He really emphasizes the eternal thing. He sees us eternal already. So how are we getting lost somewhere on the way? We’re already placed. But it’s really deep and it is just a good learning thing for them along with all of your stuff that they want to go there. But I just want to throw that out.
And then one more thing. I have a grant on that six. I’m looking through all this stuff like you say you gather along the way and I’ve gotten rid of the NIV and New American and whatever. But then I looked at this precious moment Bible my daughter did and here I think that was New American and I don’t think it was NIV but it was some weird one of the bad ones. It’s hard today. Almost everybody’s trying to I guess accommodate what they feel like the majority of the readers will like to have and they go with the bad translations.
Well, do you suggest anything for the little children? He reads at like third grade level, so he can read well and comprehend, but if I’m gonna buy him another Bible, I’m like, gosh, I wish I could get him a school field. I wish there was a school field for children. I know it. I know it is a tough one, it really is. And I wish somebody would come out and just do what they need to do. That’s just revise all the words up to speed that have changed meaning and get rid of these and those and it would be just fine.
But they can’t keep their fingers off of tampering with the meanings of the passages and inserting their own bias about the Bible and trying to change God’s word which is right. And then I looked at another thing and I’m like, geez, if you’re not depressed enough at the times we’re living in, they had banned the NIV, I don’t know like a reader’s Bible, there’s another letter in there, but what it is is a feminist kind of lesbian version and it was only allowed in England, but now I guess they’re going to bring it in.
And then what they found was when they researched that they flipped it in in the children’s Bibles, this feminist version, everything was neutered so that it doesn’t affect the feminist. You know, everything was to a pronoceth of Jesus or whatever. And I’m thinking, oh my gosh. We’re under attack on every side and it’s a spiritual battle. And even all this war and rumors of war, it’s all underlying as a spiritual battle. Satan wants to kill and destroy and he certainly is stirring up the nations and the Bible says that in Psalm 2 the nations would be raging as we approach the return of the Messiah when he comes and yet God says in spite of all of that he’s going to set his king on his hill in Mount Zion in Jerusalem and Christ is going to rule over the earth and he’s going to laugh
at the nations. think they can get rid of God but they’re not going to be able to do it. Well it’s like a political, you know, you got internal demise and in our church we have an internal, I mean an internal demise that we have to guard against. It’s like, you know, you have to worry about the ones inside correctly as well as the ones outside. Well, about being vigilant, and that’s what it means, spiritually vigilant, you know, on guard and watching, and we have to not only do battle, but we have to be protective as well, you know, and so it’s a big job.
And I did buy some books, Rari and Who’s the Other One You Like So Much? Yeah, and along with the other one at Wright’s. It was very shape for, we have a bunch of different ones that I really like a lot. I think it’s Alan. But I do have some questions because I’m really, you know, the first thing I do now is go to front and see what they’re referencing. What do we do when they’re using references from new American quotations of the Bible from different like NIV and Bloomberg.
to live with it. Sometimes you know it is the publishers that insist or do that and it’s not those writers themselves so much as the publishers. Thank you for answering that because that’s just a lot. They obviously have a double interest here. They want to sell that author’s book but they also want to sell the Bible that they have the copyright for. It’s hard to just check the script now. Check it out in your Okay, thank you God bless you.
Oh, you’re welcome. All right, boy. It’s a it’s a tough battle out there and And you just have to be vigilant like the Bible says keep your eyes open We have Troy in the land floor that Troy welcome to Bible and we’re glad to have you on the air. Hi dr. Hank. I was calling because I was touched by the call of Brooks for the last caller Shonda I think her name. Yeah, sure It just sounds like works and missing the whole spirit of the law.
The law over the spirit far is the little boy. That’s the love part I was talking about because somehow it’s just like that’s not something. And that’s it just kills the spirit and you’re you’re really bringing up a very good point I believe because Somehow there has to be that grace Not only are we saved by grace but God disciplines us by grace and and parents need to discipline their children in grace and mercy as well And so also I want to say that The way way that you think you should grow up because every child has different gift and those gifts should be developed and not hindered.
Pray for the little guys, I just touched my heart. So man, well we sure do thank you Tony for sharing that with us. This is Bibleline and we’ve had fun being with you. We have a bunch of callers waiting. We just haven’t been able to get to you because of the time and we have some offer questions. We’ll first try to get them to borrow. We pray that everybody listening has trusted Jesus as Savior if you haven’t just whisper that prayer Lord I AM my sinner, but I trust Jesus as the one who by his death and shed blood paid my sin dead and full is buried in rose again from the dead.
The moment you trust him, God of heaven saves you and also make that second decision to serve him and that will bring about rewards and blessings in your life.
