The first objection to the true gospel is usually, “I can’t believe that because it is too simple.” The simplicity of the true gospel has been a stumbling block to many down through the centuries. It seems that man in his pride always wants to add something to the finished work of Christ. Satan used the fact that the gospel is simple to prevent people from trusting Jesus Christ as their only hope of reaching heaven.

Bible get it out we’ll take a look at the Bible for a few minutes then we’re going to take our callers and you can call in and either leave a question off air or you can go up on the air live with us today. We are excited about the times which we’re living. We believe Christ is coming again. And certainly the Bible says that we’re to watch for His coming 23 times in the Gospels Christ tells us to watch.
If you’re not watching, if you’re not looking for Christ’s return, then as a Christian you’re disobedient because He commands us in His Word to watch. for His coming. Are you looking? Are you watching? And there are so many verses that tell us about looking and watching and certainly that’s what we ought to be doing. So as we see things happening in our world that indicate the return of Christ is getting nearer, even more so. We ought to be looking, watching and also be doing what we ought to be doing as a believer that is sharing the gospel, getting lost people saved, telling them how they can become saved by simply receiving receiving the free gift of everlasting life.
Let’s go to Romans 623 today. It says for the wages of sin is death. That’s the bad news. And then comes the good news. The gift of God is eternal life. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. I was 18 before I ever heard that salvation was a gift. But in Romans 623 it makes it very plain that the gift of God is eternal life through not my works through not baptism through not the Ten Commandments through not confirmation through not prayers through and the list of you on loan but it says through our Lord Jesus Christ when you trust the finished work that Christ accomplished at the cross that he died shed his blood and paid our sin debt in full paying for all verses past present and future Then my friend God saves you the moment you trust him.
Sounds too simple, doesn’t it? And you know that’s one of the things that devil uses to cause people not to trust Christ? That’s exactly right. The Bible tells us that Satan with his subtlety, just like he deceived Eve back in the Garden of Eden, 2 Corinthians 11-3. It says he would try to corrupt your mind from the simplicity that is in Christ. That’s right, he would try to corrupt your mind from the simplicity that is in Christ. We’re talking about now 2 Corinthians 11-3, where it tells us that Satan would take the fact that the message of the gospel is simple and use it as a way of preventing you from getting saved by saying, that’s just too simple.
It can’t be. It’s got to be more complicated. You’ve got to do something to be saved, and that’s what you hear again and again and again. And when people tell me it’s too simple, then I know that they’ve heard the truth because it is simple. Jesus paid it all and there’s nothing left for us to pay. I’m so glad he did. And when you trust Christ, then at that moment, at that instant, you become saved forever and ever and ever and ever.
It says it there are 2 Corinthians 11, 3. Look it up that Satan threw his subtlety, deceived Eve back in the Garden of Eden. in the same way he would try to corrupt your minds to deceive you, seduce you from the simplicity that is in Christ. The message is so simple many people stumble right over it and miss it. They think it has to be more complicated. Almost every day you hear it on this program and you hear it when you talk to people on the street.
Most people think there’s a list of things you have to do to be able to be saved. When there’s nothing you can do, The only thing that can be done is to receive the gift by trusting Christ as your Savior. Well that’s what we talked about in Romans 6, 23. What a great verse. The wages of sin is death. That’s the bad news. If you paid for sin it would be by separation from God forever in hell. But the good news is the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So the gift of God is eternal life. And it is a true gift, and it has been purchased by Christ and His death and His shed blood at the cross. And when you trust Christ, you receive that free gift by simply trusting that He did it for you. What is trust? Well, it’s when you rely upon Christ as the only means of your entrance into heaven. Trust is like if you’re on a dock and you’re stepping off onto a small boat, when you take and completely rely upon the boat to hold you.
That means you can’t have one foot on the dock and one foot on the boat. That wouldn’t be trusting the boat. You can’t have both feet on the boat and one hand or two hands on the dock. That wouldn’t be trusting the boat. You’re not really trusting the boat until you take both hands and both feet and have no connection to the dock at all. But you’re totally and completely supported by the boat as your weight is totally on the boat and until you trust Christ and rely upon Him only as the means of your salvation, you’ve really never trusted Christ.
So do you still have one foot on the dock? Do you still trust the baptism or church membership or living the Christian life is going to help you get to heaven? My friend, you’ve never really trusted Christ if you’re doing that. We had a fellow here just the other day that was trusting in his water baptism. He was told that that would mean he wouldn’t be saved. He was shocked. He was shocked. He thought he was more secure, more saved by trusting in baptism in addition to faith in Christ.
But in reality, he hadn’t realized that he really wasn’t trusting Christ as his only hope of heaven because he was still trusting in that water baptism. Water baptism is a testimony of your faith in Christ, and it should be done after you have been saved as a testimonial of your cleanse by the blood of Christ when you trust Christ as your Savior. But what it doesn’t wash away your sin, what it doesn’t save you, and what it has no part and what a baptism is no part in your salvation.
It’s amazing what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1-14. He says, I thank God that I baptized none of you. a shocking statement, especially when you think that if water baptism were part of salvation, how could Paul ever say, I thank God that I baptized none of you? Well, he said that because there were divisions among believers after they were saved over who had baptized them, but it had nothing to do with salvation. If it did, then Paul would be saying, I thank God that none of you are saved, and that’s certainly not the truth.
Paul loved souls and he did everything he could to preach the gospel so people would get saved. We find that Paul says, I think God I baptized none of you. Even clearer, verse 17 of 1 Corinthians 1, Paul said, Christ sent me not to baptize but to preach the gospel. In other words, the great commission is not baptism. The great commission is to preach the gospel. And then after we get a person to trust the gospel message and believe in the death and the burial and resurrection of Christ, then we get them to choose to serve the Lord and then we baptize the disciples.
If you read Matthew 28 verse 19 and 20 very carefully, it says we are going to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. That means first we have to get them saved. Then we make them disciples who will follow after Christ and serve Christ and share the Gospel with other people and it is disciples that are to be baptized as the marking of the beginning of their new life, their ministry in Christ as we become disciples of Christ.
But discipleship doesn’t save you. That’s why Judas was never saved. Judas was a disciple, but he was never a believer. John 664, the Bible says, Jesus says that He knew from the beginning who they were that believed not and who should betray Him. He was talking about Judas. He clearly tells us that Judas was not a believer, although Judas was a disciple. But you’re not safe by being a disciple. You could be a disciple and go to hell. You must trust Christ in order to be saved.
And there is a definite distinction. This is what the Bible talks about when it talks about rightly dividing the word of of truth. You need to be able to separate from salvation, which is what God did for us through Christ’s death at the cross. And then our response when we become disciples, where we live for Him, not to be saved, but because we are grateful and we want to live now to honor and please Him and say thank you by our life being lived for Christ.
I’m Dr. Englin from this Bible. I’m just great to be with you. We’re going to go ahead and take our callers. If you want call in, the phone number is 1-800-576-3771, 1-800-576-3771. So please give us a call and we’ll get you up on the air. We have Matilda and she calls in from Lando Lakes, Florida and she says please explain X10 44 through 47, especially verse 46 about tons. Well this is This is the second real mention of tongues in the book of Acts, and those that Peter had led to Christ at the house of Cornelius received the Holy Spirit in verse 44, and then it says that they spoke in tongues.
And of course, tongues was a real gift, and at that time was still in practice. But it is not around today. We believe tongues ceased by the first century is over. only have three mentions in the book of Acts and then it only mentions it in first grandfins and otherwise tongues is out of there. It was totally gone by the end of the first century when the New Testament was completed and it was a gift to be able to evangelize the lost and it was a gift He was given to communicate the Gospel and those that the house of Kunez received again that gift and they were able therefore to witness, especially to Jewish people who were their present in their very language in which you were born and raised at Gentile language.
That’s the purpose of this age is that Jews would hear the Gospel in Gentile languages and God gave them miraculous gift. It also says there that they were water baptized or Peter says how can we forbid them to be water baptized which you receive the Holy Spirit as well as we. They were already saved, already received the Holy Spirit and they were not yet water baptized. And so water baptism again has nothing to do with salvation but is a testimony of our salvation after we become saved.
Thank you Matilda. I hope that helped if you didn’t call back and we’ll try to go at it again. We’re going to go to Jack in Lakeland, Florida and Jack, welcome to Bibleline you are on the air. Dr. Lynch, good morning. Good morning. I hope you’re having a great and blessed day. I ordered in your revelation CD. I listened to it the last couple of days and I just want to make a comment about it. It’s probably one of the greatest things.
I just want to tell you what a great job you did with it. I had one question if I could ask you that. Sure. Go ahead. After the thousand year reign of Christ, he let the devil out of hell and was wondering why he did that again, why he let him loose. Well he lets him out of the bottom of his pit which is in the heart of the earth. He doesn’t get cast into hell until a thousand years are expired.
But he does that, I think, to demonstrate that even while he was bound up and while his angels were bound up and while Christ is living on the earth, the earth is filled with the knowledge of the Lord. there will still be those who will reject Christ. You see, those that enter the millennium will be saved and they will still be in their mortal bodies. They will have children and their children will marry and have children and those will all have nature inherited from Adam and they will be sinners and they will need a Savior.
But apparently even of the most ideal conditions, men will reject Christ. It really verifies the fact of what it says in Jeremiah 17.9. heart is deceitful of all things and desperately wicked who can know it so it shows the wickedness of the human heart that even you know i love of the the the flipp Wilson like the comedian and he is to say the devil made me do it but during the millennium nobody’s going to be able to say the devil made me do it because he’s going to be bound up and so there’ll be no excuse when they reject Christ during that time and Satan will be loosed at the end he’ll be able to round up all these unbelievers and will be in evidence of the fact that men are to pray, they’re sinful, and even with the most ideal situation, they’ll still reject
Christ sometimes. Yeah, unbelievable. Very good. I’m over here in Lakeland, but I’m going to make a point to get over to your church and listen to your sermon and maybe down the road, maybe even join. Wouldn’t it be wonderful? You’re doing a fantastic job, and I just wanted to pass that on because I listened to you I’m on your listen to your program look forward to it every day. Well thanks for all the compliments we have a lot of people raving about that revelation series on CD and it’s just verse by verse and this explaining each verse and making it clear and and we have had I don’t know how many people tell us they’ve had Bible studies in their offices at work or before before work begins and in their homes and and they’re using that series as a as a the Bible study aid and it’s just great.
Well, that don’t shake you up. Nothing will. Let me tell you. All right. Thank you, John. Well, thank you, Dr. I appreciate all your efforts. You’re welcome. And that was Jack over in Lakeland, Florida. And we had a couple of, as I mentioned a moment ago, that really enjoyed last night’s classes on pestilonians. And we had two great hours last night. Everybody was really ready to lift right off the ground and be raptured out. And it was exciting. we’re going to tell him in lake worth florida and that’s him welcome to bible and you’re on the air there are any doctor how are you good okay uh…
regarding repentance i tried to research what you said about the old testament having god did the repenting and i feel okay well anything on your website we sure do i have three uh… or four sheets there you might want to take a look under the word repentance. We have a little search engine there where you can look up the word repent and it should take you to all the three or four articles that I have there in that section.
If you have a concordance, we recommend the Strong’s Concordance and that’s in our Resource Center here. It retails I think for 35 or more dollars. We let it go for 30 plus shipping, which is about the same price you get it in your bookstore. But it is the best. We have the one that has the easy print reading too, but it has every word in the entire Bible. Every V, every thou, every end, every butt, every shelf. And by a simple number code system, it will give you the rest of the world.
original Hebrew and Greek word. And what it’s so neat about is it quotes every verse in the Bible partially where that word occurs. So if you know one word in a verse that you’re looking for and you look it up, it’ll partially quote every verse in the Bible that has that word in it. And then by number code system, you’ll need to go to the Hebrew dictionary or the Greek dictionary and you have the combined scholarship of 200 Greek and Hebrew scholars and you are right there with the big boys as far as being able to find it out for yourself.
You don’t have to trust somebody else, but you can look up the original meanings. And there you just very easily take up and see how many times that word repent occurs and then look up the original word. It’s a different word in the Hebrew than the Greek word metanoia. It is the Hebrew word nation and it means also to regret and to sorrow, but it also is the equivalent of the New Testament word metanoia which means a change of mind.
Okay, now I have naves topical and I couldn’t find it Couldn’t really you said it appeared in the Old Testament 40 actually the English word repent occurs 46 Third well it occurs of 46 times 43 times it is the Hebrew word nature which is the key word Three times it’s from the Hebrew word shoe of s h u v. That was a mistake the word shoe beats the turn turn. Turn around and return. It’s translated that way over 600 times.
Why they did it three times into the English word repent. I don’t know. That’s just a bad translation. The 43 times 37 of those 43 it is God. I’ll tell you what. If you’ll just fall back and talk to one of my operators, I will send you a list of all those verses where it occurs in the Old Testament and I’ll scratch on the side the math for you. 37 times out of 43 is 86% and I’ll give you a listing of all those verses.
I tell you that’d be great because I do a lot of evangelizing as a lay person and people cannot believe that you don’t have to repent and repent and repent and I put something together to show them. Yeah, you do have to repent but it means to change your mind. Well, I mean repent of sin. Yeah, right. Isn’t that crazy? You know, that phrase, repent of sin, quote unquote, that exact phrase doesn’t even occur in the Bible. I was shocked when I began to do a little search on this years ago and I said to myself, that should be everywhere.
And I couldn’t find it even once. And I was so shocked. And it doesn’t make any sense anyway if you think about it because it means to change your mind about sin if you know the Greek word metanoia. I don’t know about you, but I was always raised to believe sin was wrong. And so if a preacher told me to change my mind about sin, if he used the correct meaning for repent, what would it say to me that, hey, you need to realize sin is wonderful.
It’s not bad. What have I been missing all my life? Well, anyway, when you started to show today, I wish I could have tape recorded that and put it on every major television work in the country because so many people and I every they try to talk with people they think that salvation is so much work. Oh I know. It’s so difficult and I try to explain how simple it is and that the Christ did the work and they looked at me like I’m crazy.
Well I understand and they sometimes look at me crazy too but I try to point out that this is really what the Greek word means and I, a couple of my sheets quote a lot of really wonderful, reliable Bible teachers that admire the country that say exactly the same thing. The Schofield Bible that I used has it in its notes a hundred years ago. It’s not something that I discovered by myself. It’s obviously been known by many good Bible teachers, but it seems like the error, the devil is good at getting the error to continue.
Nobody ever seems to want to straighten it out. Well, you are doing a fantastic job. I thank you and I hope we can help you and I do have a whole message on DVD. Dr. Hank Lindstrom. screen and I cover that whole thing about repents. We also have it on CD and you can get some of those and use them to aid your study on repentance. But I’ll try to get you that list if you’ll call and ask for it.
I’ll get our secretary to send it out. I’ll help her get that together for you. Okay. Thank you very much, Dr.. You’re very welcome. Thank you for calling this. calling that was Tim and Lake Worth, Florida and he is right. The devil really got a victory in 1611 when they translated the Greek word metanoia into the English word repent and it doesn’t mean the same thing. Well, that was where the devil got a victory and you do have to repent.
You do have to repent to be saved. But it’s a change of mind. The night I trusted Christ, I didn’t know a thing about repentance. But as I reflect back, I changed my mind about Jesus being God, I never knew that. I changed my mind about salvation being a gift and not by works, I never knew that. And there were quite a number of things that I changed my mind about when I trusted Jesus as my Savior. So I repented, but I didn’t even realize I was doing it.
It’s a change of mind that is a part of belief. When you believe you do repent, you do change your mind from whatever you were previously trusting in the trusting in Christ. We’ve got all of our lines lit up. We’ve got lots of all of our questions. But here we are up on break time already. Wow, we just got started and we’re having too much fun today. Keep your video down to the right where it is. We’re going to be right back in just a moment to do the second half of Bible and so don’t go away.
I’ll be right back. Don’t go away. Bible and will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. I’m Dr. Englund’s firm and it’s great to be with you. I want to thank you all for tuning in. We do want to announce that we do have on our website, BibleInindustries.org, a flash television intro of about six and a half, seven minutes long. And you’re welcome to put that on your website. That’s right. If you look just to the right of it, there’s a place where you can click and you can go ahead and add that to your website.
We are just surprised at how many people are wanting to do that and are getting the gospel out on their website. And you know, isn’t that wonderful that people have that desire to share the Lord Jesus Christ? To tell people about how to be saved and they’re using this wonderful tool on their website. You’re welcome to it. There’s no charge. It’s our gift to you. We want you to use it. Check it out for yourself. Take a look at it on our website and view the flash and if you like it, you’re welcome to click on the right and you can add that right to your website.
I hope you’ll do that. Also we want you to know that we’re streaming our television and radio programs now and if you go to my website click on that upper right hand corner. Actually all you have to do is click on that little television set and it is going to connect you to two pages, one for radio, one for television. You can watch the programs of our television shows andHong listen to our radio programs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from anywhere in the world.
We now are up to 140 countries that have logged on to our website. Are you believe me? It’s just absolutely amazing. 140 countries, the latest to our Ecuador and Albania, northwest of Greece in Europe and we’re just excited about what God is doing all over the world, Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, South America, Central America, everywhere. People are finding Bibleline. This is just amazing. It blows my mind because we just can’t explain it except God is really blessing His Word, which is what we honor here on this program.
God says in Psalm 138 verse 2 that He exalts His Word even above His name. The way we believe is the right thing to do is to proclaim his word and to point people to the Bible and quote the Scriptures because God is going to honor his word and so as long as we’re honoring his word we’re going to see God bless this program because his word is what really counts. It’s not my word, it’s not my opinion, it’s what God has to say that we believe is significant.
We’re about ready to rejoin our stations that have been on break into the second half of If your station doesn’t carry it, would you go to the internet and you can catch the full program and listen to it as often as you like. You can also order a copy on CD of today’s program. Just call in. Right now we’re going to rejoin you at the station. So keep your radio dial tuned right where it is. And we’re getting ready now to do Bibleline the second half.
Please don’t go away. We’ll be right back. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lindstrom a question? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Alright, we’re back from that break and this is Bible and we’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios here at the Calvary Community Church where I’m the pastor and we We really do love you, our audience, and we’d love to get to meet you.
We’d like to have you come by, you’re invited to come during the week, visit our resource center, and we’ll get a chance to meet you, you’ll get a chance to meet us, and also you’re welcome to come by on a worship day. Sunday’s a great time. The third Sunday of the month is a wonderful Sunday to come because that’s when we eat. We have a great meal every third Sunday and just come and be my I guess come at 1030, bring your family, your bim and all around the whole area people coming in to visit and and here’s the teaching here at Calvary Community Church Bible and headquarters you’re invited to come and I don’t even I don’t even I think we had somebody from Detroit and also from Out in Nebraska or someplace, but you’re welcome to come.
We hope you’ll drop by and say hi again, you can get our Sunday messages on on CD and be like you’re here. The past two weeks have been really exciting because of what’s happening in the Middle East. We did one two weeks ago on Sunday called the Assyrian. A title for the Antichrist. It shows how he becomes the Assyrian, what his motives, what his devices are, what he tries to accomplish, and how Jesus comes back and defeats the Assyrian and brings peace on the earth.
An exciting message from the Old Testament. We also did one last Sunday on the 70th week of Daniel showing again the rise of the Antichrist and how he will proclaim that he’s got a demand worship and His involvement with the Middle Eastern countries that we’re seeing right now on the news Every day and how that we’ve got to be getting close to the Lord’s return people couldn’t wait until they could get their copy of this past Sunday’s message. And maybe you would like to just subscribe and get them all every month.
You can do that, call in to the 800 number. It’s not expensive. It’s just $5 per Sunday or $5 per CV plus shipping. And you will be right here. You’ll be sitting on the front row listening to the word of God being taught from the pulpit here at Calvary Community Church. I hope you’ll get excited and maybe take advantage of that because people say I really Need that teaching and and well here you got it a way of getting the Sunday messages as well as the Teaching in the classroom that I do and all the teachings that we have will keep you busy for a long time As we had a call a little bit ago talking about the book of Revelation and we hear that every week where people love that series of 12 hours of teaching on the 22 chapters of the book of
Revelation. At summer time, we could sure use your help people going on vacations. This is not happens, but yet the expenses go on. And again, I want to share that we have just three of us right now doing the radio show. Two men here taking the calls, myself and my Bible. three of us, three guys, and we are the ones that pull off this program. None of us get paid. This is something that we do because we love to do it.
We want people to get saved, and we don’t have a reserve account. We don’t have a piggy bank. We totally depend upon the Lord to supply to pay all the bills. It is expensive, but the Lord so far has kept us on the air. What a miracle. We have never dreamed that we’d even be able to leave Tampa as far as expanding the ministry, but now we’re all over the eastern part of the United States, from the Mississippi, all the way up to Upper New York State, all up and down of the United States and now on the Internet around the world.
And our television program, of course, nationwide on the dish and on DirecTV, and we’re very excited about what God is doing. So it costs and we can sure use your partnership. Our partners are real in this ministry. No doubt about it. Without your partnership, we’d be off the air. If you feel like this ministry is blessing you. If you’d like to be a part… We would have to keep your gift on the year and allow us to expand. So consider, what do you do on a Bibleline contributor?
You can do it over the phone by credit card, this caller operator and say you’d like to give a gift to the Bibleline. We can really use it at this time, we’ve launched out beyond our means to put these programs out on the Internet, on television. People are being blessed and are enjoying it but many people realize it cost many to He said, yes, but we didn’t have any money to say yes. So we’re trusting God and we believe He’s going to supply because we believe He opened that door for us.
But we could use your help to be able to pull that off. So we’re not trying to get your money. We really aren’t. This is the leanest, trimmest ministry that I would, you could probably ever find because again, we don’t have salaries to pay. We donate our time. We have a very minimum of expenses. here. as far as the headquarters, almost zero, but we do have the radio time to pay, the satellite time to pay, the phone bills to pay and other things that we just can’t get rid of.
If we get rid of those expenses, we’d really be in great shape. But we have to pay for those times and it requires your help. So, pray for us and we trust that God will supply and the ones that supply will, I’m sure be raking in treasures in heaven one day because I believe God is going to bless you as he blesses Bibleline and thank you in advance for your gifts. We’re going to Frank and Saint Pete. We got lots of people out there online waiting and Frank you’ve been patient.
Here we go. You’re on the air. Hi Dr. Hank. How are you doing? Good. I’ve got a question. Second Peter chapter 3 verses 10 to 13 where Peter is talking about the heavens will pass away with the great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat. Both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. And I’ve been reading different FHMEs and it’s not at the end of the completely destroyed the universe and then create.
The commentators are saying that it’s just a restoration and an purging of the earth. I was wondering what your interpretation on the infection is. Second Peter 3, 10 is talking about the destruction of this present earth and there will be another earth. It says after that of verse 13 of that chapter that nevertheless we according to his promise wait for a new heavens and a new earth. And I don’t believe it’s the entire universe. I believe it’s the atmosphere around the earth which is called the heavens there and the actual physical earth.
This one has been polluted by sin. Obviously we have the marks of man’s sinfulness and we’re destroying all of our planet every day. We’re polluting the oceans, the rivers and destroying our resources and our rainforests and everything else and so we’re going to have a pristine earth to enjoy once we’re into eternity as believers and our home will orbit I believe the new earth. It’ll be the new Jerusalem and the gates will be opened day and night, twelve gates and we’ll be able to go in and out and visit the earth and enjoy.
I look forward to strolling down a beach where you won’t find any tin cans and any bottles and the marks of the previous earth but it’ll just be absolutely perfect filled with I’m sure life, wildlife and fish and maybe we’ll go fishing. It ought to be neat. I’m looking forward to lots of great things. I think that it won’t be a lot different to what it is now, but it is something to be totally without sin. It will be absolutely perfect.
It will be absolutely beautiful. The sunsets and the sunrises and the earth with its forests and its mountains and its grandeur will be like we’ve never seen before.ipment. Okay. Well, I appreciate your God bless you. Thank you Frank, I was Frank in St. Petersburg and we now have Don in North Palm Beach and Don, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Okay. Okay Don. Okay. You’re on. What do you have a question? Yes, forces running rampant in this country and a lot of churches claim that divorce negates the ability for anybody to be considered for being a deacon or in leadership in a church.
Is that true in scripture? Well, you know, the position of being a pastor or church leader means that you’re a mentor to families and children. And so I believe it does say that. Timothy in 1 Timothy chapter 3 in Titus chapter 1 talks about being the husband of one wife. And some of course try to explain that away by saying, well, obviously you divorced, then you still are the husband of one wife when you remarry. But I think the idea where it was there that you have the same wife.
In the Old Testament, the priest also was not to marry somebody that was divorced. He was to marry a virgin when he got married and it was not to be a second marriage on the part of the woman. I think there was something there as a standard for people to look up to and to follow. I think that’s really what it’s all about. It doesn’t mean that divorced people cannot serve. they can serve in mighty ways within the church and certainly be used greatly of God.
But I think those particular positions carry with them something special that are a role model for the families and the children under them. Because once they say, well, you know, pastor so-and-so has been on its fourth marriage now, it seems to be like a green light that it’s okay for anybody in the congregation. So I think that that’s really what God is trying to prevent there. I really think that they’re right on that. When we’ve got a lot of churches in trouble?
Oh, I know it. And it’s real hard. I know in our church, we struggle to find people that are qualified to meet the standards of those passages anymore because right up front, a lot of our people are disqualified because of the divorce issue. I wish I could just accommodate everybody, but we have such a tremendous divorce rate, more than 50% here in Florida, a first time marriage is fail. Second marriages fail at a 75% rate. Third time marriages fail at a 95% rate.
It’s scary. And obviously we’re coming to the end of this age. And we believe that it’s a sign of the times. No doubt about it. The family is under attack. And obviously now we have this whole new ball game to face. And that is same sex marriages. That is absolutely, of course, bizarre to even think about much less see people actually trying to advocate that and practice that. But these are the things that are a part of this time.
And the Bible said it would begin as it was in the days of Lot and you know what Sodom was like and certainly we’re seeing the sin of Sodom again. And Isaiah tells us that they would be in your face and not be ashamed. And this sodomy thing is a big issue today and it’s hard to not be confronted with it on a regular basis and that’s really unfortunate. And in fact in some countries it’s illegal for the pastor to say anything against same sex marriages in Sweden they’ll put you in jail if you’re a preacher.
for speaking out against homosexuality. Scary world, I hope we don’t come to that in this country, but in some countries you cannot even say a word for even though it’s in the Bible without getting in trouble, for taking a stand on what God takes a stand on. We thank you for your call and I’m sorry that the answer probably is not the one you wanted to hear. Thomas, in 10, welcome to our panel. in what you’ve just said and I think I’m one of them and I appreciate that.
Alright, you’re most welcome. Thank you. And we now are going to go to Thomas and Thomas. You’re on the air. We don’t have Thomas. And now we have Adam in Tampa. Adam, welcome to Babylon. Yes, that’s right. I have a question about, did you speak a little bit about things like that? The modern day prophets are not sanctioned by God. It says in 1 Corinthians 13 verse 8 through 10 that the gift of prophecy would be withdrawn. the gift of prophecy was to be able to…
Fortell things that are a part of God’s program. For example, the next event on God’s program is the Rapture, followed by seven years of tribulation, the rise of the Antichrist, and God bringing severe judgments upon the earth, the seal judgments, the trumpet judgments, the vile judgments, and so on. Then Christ returns and brings peace on earth, sets the diskingdom for a thousand years. And as we just learned a moment ago, this earth will be destroyed or renovated. And then a new heavens and new heavens.
earth will come along. Well, that’s not what the people that claim to be prophets are doing right now. They’re fortune tellers. This is fortune telling and spiritism, things that are forbidden in the Bible, creeping into the modern day church. This is absolutely wrong. And the gift of prophecy is not necessary anymore. First Corinthians 13, 8-10 says it be rendered entirely unnecessary because why we have the Bible now? So I can point you to the passages that tell us that the next event in God’s program is the Rapture, followed by the Tribulation Period, the rise of the Antichrist and all the things I just mentioned a moment ago.
So we don’t need the gift of prophecy when we have a Bible that is filled with prophecy, nearly one quarter, or as Howard Hendricks of theological Seminary says, one third of the Bible is prophecy. And so We’ve got plenty of prophecy. We don’t need any profits today. And so the gift is ceased and I would just run the other way. You might as well call your psychic hotline because these people are no different than the psychic hotline and you can just let your money just, you know, just go right out through that phone bill where they charge you, the absorbent charges that somebody just tell you some nonsense about what’s going to happen in the next few weeks or a few months in your life.
That is fortune telling. It is sous-saying as false. It’s to be avoided. The Bible says it’s forbidden and Christians need to go to the Lord and not to those sources to find out information. So hopefully that helps you. I tell you, some of them, you know, Gene Dixon was one of these modern-day prophets. If you read her book, The Gift of Prophecy, she says in there that this serpent calls around her. He looks into his eyes and sees all the wisdom of the world.
Well guess who that serpent is. I believe it’s none other than Satan. So Satan is the one that feaded that Gene Dixon with all her information. But again, she wasn’t always right because the false prophets aren’t 100% accurate. The true prophets in the Bible. The test is, according to Deuteronomy 13, that they have to be 100% on the money. They have to be right every time. the Bible is right every time. So why turn to these false sources when we have a Bible that tells us things that are always right and are never wrong?
Alright thank you so much Adam and now we’re going to go to Thomas in Tampa. Thomas welcome to Bible and you are on the air. Hello Pastor this is Thomas from Tampa. Yeah sitting in you have often spoken the differential between being being saved and being a disciple. And you made the comment that you can be saved and not be a disciple and you can also be a disciple without being saved. That’s correct. And you use Judas as an example.
But my question is, I understand how Judas could be a disciple and not be saved because he was a physical Christ and he did serve him. He did follow him in the physicality of evil he didn’t believe. But how can someone today with Christ body not being on the earth will and not believe? Well, it’s amazing because it’s not that they don’t believe the facts about Christ, but they don’t personally trust Him as the means of their salvation or trusting their works and their discipleship.
I’ll give you an example. Man, he’s 722 is a great example where Christ says that the great white-thrown judgment, which is the judgment of unbelievers, many, he says, will be standing there and they’re going to say, Lord, Lord, in other words, acknowledge the lordship of Christ and they were followers of Christ or disciples and he says that they brag and say look at what we did, why we preached in your name and we healed in your name and we did wonderful works in your name and Christ in Man He 723 says I never knew you.
Not I once knew you and I lost you, he never did them. The problem was they acknowledged the facts about the life of Christ but they never trusted Christ death and shed blood as a means of their salvation. They were trusting in their discipleship and in their obedience to the Lordship of Christ. Notice, Bragg about how they were obedient to preach and to heal and to do wonderful works in the name of Christ. That’s the wrong answer, guys. You need to have trusted in my death and shed blood.
And because of that, I never knew you. You were never one of mine. Depart for me that work in equity. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Check that passage out again. That’s really a good one. And there you see clearly they’re not trusting. They know that they’ve made no mention of Christ death, barrel in resurrection. You cannot be saved unless you trust the gospel message. You don’t need to trust Christ as when he died and shed his blood, paid your full sin debt at the cross was buried in Rosigan from the dead.
These people don’t even mention that. They said, look at what we did. Look at what we did. Look at what we did. We preached, we healed, we did wonderful works in your name. Aren’t you going to let us know? Let us in. Christ said, look, I don’t even know you. Get out of here. Depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Scary, but there’s a lot of folks out there just like that right now. And I talk to them all the time, even on this radio show.
And they’re insisting on the fact that they’ve got to do things and work their way to heaven when the Bible says that Jesus paid it all. Out once again, Pastor, you have brought me to you. Thomas, you’re welcome and God bless you. Have a great day. We have Sandra calling in from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and she says, explain that Nancy’s 6, 14, and 15 is talking about in the Lord’s Prayer, where it says, if you forgive others, Christ will forgive you.
It’s talking about the Christian life. First of all, when you talk about the Lord’s Prayer, our Father, which aren’t in Heaven, you cannot call God your Father unless you’ve been born again. In other words, God is your Creator, you’re His creation, but not until you trust Christ. Do you become born again and God becomes your Father? Christ said in John 14, 6, I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life. No man can come unto the Father.
No man can come unto the Father except by me. So if you’re going to address God as your Father, you have to be saved. And then you can come to the Father. And He’s talking about your Christian walk. And obviously if you want to be in fellowship with the Lord then you obviously need to forgive others and Christ will also then forgive you as far as your daily walk. We’re not talking about salvation here. You’re already saved. And so you need to be again able to distinguish between what is the condition for salvation where he forgives those that believe.
Let me quote to you, Acts 10, 43, where Peter says to Jesus or Yeshua, give all the prophets witness, but through his name, whosoever believeth in him shall receive the remission or forgiveness of their sins. So God forgives everybody’s sin based upon belief only in the name of Jesus. But then after you’re saved, God becomes your father, you become his son or daughter. your walk is dependent upon your actions. So you need to be forgiving of others. I love Ephesians 4.30 where it says, we should be tender, hearted, and kind, and forgive others, even as God for Christ they can forgive you.
So that’s the style of life we ought to live, one of forgiveness. But it’s not a condition for salvation, Sandra. Thanks for what I call from Fort Lauderdale. We now have Maggie in Bradenton, Florida, off air leaving a question about, I guess, the Lutheran Church in her area. And again, you have to judge every church based on that church and its leader. But basically, the Lutheran Church believes you can lose your salvation and it makes salvation therefore by works.
I think Martin Luther, if you were to come back today and see the church that carries his name, would probably do double backflips because it is far removed from the message of grace and salvation that he rediscovered to the world in the 1500 when he packed his 100-point pieces to the church door in Whitburg, Germany, declaring that we’re saved by grace through faith and only through Christ and it sparked the Reformation. Somehow people have lost that message down through the years.
No doubt about it. I think you need to look for a church where a doctrine is sound and hopefully you’d be able to do that. The Lutheran Church also is generally replacement theology. done with Israel, the church has replaced the nation of Israel and that we’re in the kingdom right now. I was talking to a Lutheran pastor and pastor and he said he was in the kingdom right now. I said, would you go to Bush Gardens with me which is where they have a big zoo and I said, I’m going to bring some straw and he says, what?
I’m going to bring some straw and you just come by yourself. According to Isaiah 11, during the Kingdom, lions will eat straw like the ox. I said, we’re going to go right to the lion cage. You stick your arm in. I’m going to feed straw into the cage. If the lion goes for the straw, I’m going to agree with you. We’re in the kingdom. But if the lion goes, it rejects the straw, it goes for your arm, then you’re wrong.
He didn’t want to go and that never did happen, but it was fun. We’re not in the kingdom yet, but the Lutherans think that we’re already in the kingdom. The crisis already returned and that the church has been replaced. Israel rather has been replaced. That’s called replacement theology. That’s just absolutely wrong. Jeremiah 31-31 tells us that as long as the sun is still shining every day and the moon and the stars are seen at night, God is not through with Israel.
Did the sun come up this morning? It sure did, it was beautiful and therefore God is not done with Israel. But pray for them, they’re going through a difficult time as we believe they’re getting close to Jesus coming back seven years after the rapture to be their king and establish the kingdom here on the earth that he promised thousands of years ago. We have Gene in St. Petersburg. He says he knows you say the next date if Jesus were to come for the church will be September 22nd.
