What can wash away my sins? Nothing! Nothing! Nothing, but the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus, the one who died on Calvary’s cross, was buried, and rose again the third day. He alone is the Savior. Don’t tamper with the Word of God. Simply believe God. Take Him at His Word. Trust Jesus as your Savior and you will be saved!

Last night we began this wonderful series called In Time Controversy, all about this seeming like war in Christianity here between those who believe in the Rapture and those who say the Rapture is not going to happen at all, the Prenterist position.
We are discussing that and I think you will find it very fascinating and very helpful for you to understand the different approaches to the Bible and many do not take the Bible Well literally, and obviously if you don’t, then you’re going to come out with who knows what, but if you take it literally, it only comes out one way. And you’ll find it very fast in a class. We hope that you’ll still take advantage of it. You can call and sign up and take it on the internet.
You’ll be able to see the classes we taught last night and catch the next classes as they occur live and also listen to them and watch them in the archive. And we hope you’ll do that. We also had a wonderful crowd here that were in the class live as we taught it, but many, many, many more are taking it online and that is of course a blessing. Also when we are finished, these will be available on DVD and CD and you can get those to have this wonderful class.
The end times are here and one of the things that Peter predicted would happen in 2 Peter 3-3 is that there would be those who would say, where is the promise of His coming? And there are those who teach that the book of Revelation is already passed its history and that the coming of Christ has already occurred in 8070. And there is no rapture, no tribulation period, no antichrist, nothing like that. And they really basically say that after it’s all sudden done, after the kingdom is over that we’re already in.
Then Christ will come back at the end and say good job boys. But according to the Bible, Christ is the one who brings about peace on earth. Christ is the one who establishes a kingdom. It has a beginning with Christ’s return and then a thousand years later this earth is destroyed and we’re into eternity with the new heavens and new earth. I hope you’ll take the class. We’d love to have you. By the way, this Sunday is the 5th Sunday in the month of April and we are going to add an extra dinner in this month.

And if you don’t want to catch it at that time it goes into archive and you can watch And if you haven’t given a gift to help Bibleline this month, you can do that by telephone by giving it by credit card or you can call and we’ll give you the address or we’ll send an envelope with our address on it and you can mail that gift card to us.
with our dress on it and you can mail that gift in. in and would you help us in this month of April. The ward is opening great doors and you know it’s it’s just been marvelous but it takes a partnership to be able to accomplish these things and the door is now open for Africa. We’re going to go on shortwave and it won’t cost us for the broadcast which is wonderful. They’re offering this opportunity to us free. We’ll do 60 minutes a day on shortwave throughout all of Africa.
And I’m so excited I can’t hardly stand it. We believe that God is doing great things through Bible and we trust that you would partner with us, pray for us, and if you can, give a gift to Bible in this month of April. We’re going to go right now to the Bible, and then we’ll take your call, if you want to call in and get a question in, live or off air, You know, it’s amazing to me how many people feel like they can lose their salvation.
And basically let me just start off by saying, if you’re not saved forever, then you’re not saved. If you’re not saved forever, then you’re not saved. Saved by definition means you are delivered. You are rescued. You are saved. It means that we are saved from our dilemma that we find ourselves in right here on this planet. All of us are condemned, all of us are headed for hell. All of us have sinned and have come shortly, glory of God.
The Bible says, he, believe it or not, Christ said, is condemned already. Right now you are living in a condemned state if you are an unbeliever. In order to be saved, you must trust Christ. He says, at that point, you’re not only not condemned, John 3.18, but it says in John 5.24, you will never future come into condemnation, but you’re passed from death and the life. The believer in Christ is saved forever, and that occurs at the moment of belief, the moment of trust.
When you trust Christ as Savior, you are saved. You know when Paul wrote to the Ephesian believers, and I’ve been to Ephesus and I’ve stood there and I thought, wow, if I had been living there in the times of the Apostle Paul, Paul’s letter would have arrived and he wrote in Ephesians 2, 8, and 9, and he says, 4 by grace, you have been saved through faith. He’s writing about an experience of salvation that occurred when Paul came there to Ephesus and led these many to Christ.
And he says, 4 by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this salvation is not of yourself, it’s the gift of God. It is not of works, lest any man should boast or brag. In other words, he didn’t write about your being saved or your on your way and keep it up, keep working at it. Paul writes to them as a people that were already saved. And then in Ephesians 113 he says, when you believed you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise which is the earnest or the down payment on your salvation.
Basically, God gives us a down payment guaranteeing that our salvation will be completed one day when we are actually in heaven. In the meantime, he gives us the Holy Spirit and basically this down payment, if God did not complete our salvation, if we did not arrive in heaven one day, would have to be forfeited by God. That’s the Holy Spirit. Let me just say this, if you somehow could lose your salvation and you somehow went to hell, the Holy Spirit would have to go to hell with you because God would have to forfeit the down payment.
You know what a down payment is? When you purchase something and you’re in earnest about it, you give a down payment. If you change your mind, then you lose or forfeit the down payment. Well, God is in earnest about our salvation. He says to let you know how much in earnest I am about your salvation. He says I’m going to give you this down payment of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will involve you permanently. So the believer can never be lost.
of all, to be lost you’d have to break the seal, which is the only spreading self you’d have to be more powerful than God. The Holy Spirit is not going to happen. Number two, the Holy Spirit would be forfeited to you if God did not complete the salvation He’s given to you, and that would mean that the Holy Spirit would go to hell with you. Not going to happen, not going to happen, not going to happen. My friend, once you’re saved, you’re saved forever, you’re stuck.
It doesn’t mean you have a license to live as you please. God will discipline the delinquent believer, and He might even take you home to have an early. Plus, you’ll get a new Give it a count for how you’ve lived your life after you get saved until you die, and there will be degrees of reward in heaven based upon what we’ve done, and many will suffer. The Bible says, loss of reward, but they’ll still be saved. 1 Corinthians 3.15, you ought to read it, it says, if any man’s works shall be burned, he shall suffer loss, but he himself shall be saved.
You’re still going to be saved even though you did nothing worthy of reward. Isn’t that an incredible verse? 1 Corinthians 3.15, even if you did nothing after you got saved and all your works were burned up, there was nothing of any value that God could find in your life and all of your works were burned up. You would suffer the loss of reward it says in 1 Corinthians 3.15, but you would still be saved, yet so as by fire.
Incredible. Well, I’m Dr. Englunds from this is by the line. I hope you have trusted Christ as your Savior. Once you have been, you need to make that second choice to serve the Lord. That’s where rewards come in. That’s where the blessings come in. That’s where you can really find every day exciting. As you get up in the morning and say, Lord, what do you have in store for me today? And every day can be an exciting day for the believer in Christ because God is real.
And not only does He save you, but He wants to use you and reward you for your faithful Well, we’re going to go to the phone lines and we have Harold down in Hollywood, Florida, and I’m excited to hear from you, Harold, and thank you for calling in today. People are asking about you. I hope you’re in good health. Well, I really miss you, Dr. Hank, and I hope you have that magnetic voice and the message, and I understand you were, let my people go country.
I’m telling you, we went over there to Israel and had a marvelous time and we’re going to go back and we probably go back October 28th and we’re excited about it. I tell you, we had a super time. We never even heard so much of the car backfire. We felt so safe, had some wonderful food, stayed in some beautiful hotels and got to see one end of the land to the other and it was just, our whole group came back changed.
They really all admitted that they were not the same persons that got SPORTS the plane when we returned on the plane back to the USA and it was great. We got to go back. But by the way, what airline takes you over there? Well, we’re going to go to this next trip on Delta. We’re going to fly nonstop from Atlanta to Tel Aviv. Isn’t that amazing? We could do that and just get on that plane and get off in Tel Aviv the next day.
So we’re going to leave October 28th in the late afternoon and arrive at 10.30 in the morning in Tel Aviv on Monday and that’s the Sunday afternoon we’ll leave and then we’ll come back on November 10th which is a Saturday and we’re going to get a lot of time in there 14 days. Good to you I hope you didn’t need kosher food though. I’ve done it well most everybody should go with a lot of the kosher food. You know we even ate at McDonald’s and the price it was a little pricey but they said that’s because all the beef is kosher and a little bit more expensive but it was delicious and yeah well I suppose the rabbis put a little hocus pocus on it oh absolutely you know they do and that toss a little bit more buddy but I’m glad you’re back I certainly do miss my
Bible talk because you know I can’t look up things that you ordinarily would teach me you know but I’m not going to go to that because well we’re trying to get on the air down there And I hope soon we can tell you, Harold, that we’re back on in South Florida. We have been struggling to find a station and we look like we’re getting close. We have two stations that you’ll be calling us this afternoon with some answers and we’re hoping and we hope that you’ll stay in touch with us to find out when we get back on the air because we’re trying desperately.
I hope so. I hope to reach Hollywood. You know, I’ve been thinking about you so often down here and discussing with my Christian friends, you know, and they always say, well, you speak to Dr. Hagg-Bagg, and I have no connection. However, there’s been a lot going on, and I’m just going to, I don’t want to hold up to the believers because I’m still an atheist. But there’s been so much going on, and we’re really these documentaries. I mean, these documentaries have been all over the place, but I picked one and I just want to hear how you will respond to my question.
And the question is the Constitution or the Bible. Now, I’m not making this up. This was one of the debates they had. Now, in the… Do we in this country, Americans, go by the Constitution or the Bible? Now, in the Constitution, it says freedom from religion. Go along with that. I’m a Jew, but I don’t go for the religion. Now, in the Bible, Jesus said, and I learned from you, that if he’s not accepted as a savior, you condemn to hell, is that true?
That is also true. Okay. So where are, where are me? Let’s say, where am I? I go by the Constitution and there’s nothing in the Constitution that was saying that Jewish atheist is condemned to hell. I just want to hear how you respond to that. Okay. Well, basically, you know, the Constitution wanted to separate between the church and the so that the state would not control your religious belief. The early founders came over here from Europe, escaping the tyranny of the Roman Catholic Church.
The Roman Catholic Church, especially during the Spanish Inquisition. And by the way, that continued right up through Franco. I have people here in my church that said that the priest would point out people that would not convert the Catholicism, and they would be taken off the jail and then every Friday he would come and he would pick out five and shoot of himself. And that kind of persecution where Christians were killed because they wouldn’t claim that they needed the Roman Catholic Church to save them, continued in Spain right up and through the time of Franco.
And that’s sad. And so people were leaving Europe like rats jumping off a sinking ship to get to America and they didn’t want the political system that was involved there was Rome where they controlled the governments as well as the religious belief. They wanted to be free of that. So it really is telling us that we can believe as we please hear in America without the government telling us what to believe. Otherwise it has no impact at all. But the Bible of course we believe is the word of God and the Bible tells us in the Old and New Testament, there is only one Savior, and God Himself claims that He is the Savior, and Isaiah 45, 22, He says, look unto Me, and be saved all the ends of the earth.
For I am the Lord, and there is none else. There is only one Savior, the Bible teaches. Now we believe that Jesus is the very same God as the God of the Old Testament, that He is Yeshua, which is God’s personal name connected with the word salvation, and the contraction is Yeshua. The English equivalent is Jesus and we believe that Jesus is the way the truth of life and there is no other way to heaven. So there is no contradiction there between the two.
We certainly, and I agree, that I would not want a government to tell me what to believe. But the founders wanted us to be able to have that freedom that they didn’t have in Europe under Roman Catholicism. And those were dark days in the history of the Roman Catholic Church for sure and for those people who lived in Europe and much of that continued down even into the 19th and 20th centuries and that was unfortunate. But I’m so glad that you called and I hope that answered your question a little bit there, you know.
Let me add to what you just said. There’s a big thing in Congress now about taking the oath on a Bible and there is a, I I guess it’s Islamic and he won’t swear on the Bible unless it’s a Quran. The other argument, and this is what I’m hearing on these documentaries, is that we only do it on the Hebrew Bible and everybody who is the Mormons, they want their Bible. How do you account what’s going to happen in this situation?
We’ve got some problems there and of course I wouldn’t trust anybody who swore on the the Quran allows you to lie. So if you swear on the Quran you’re actually then in a way affirming that you might lie on the stand because according to the Quran as long as it aids the cause of Islam you are absolutely legitimately authorized to go ahead and lie. Eryphat did it regularly. I don’t think he ever told the truth. He signed so many treaties he never intended to keep one of them and it was all because he could honestly in good consensate he was following the current well they’re not going to stop it from what i hear on the news he’s going to do it he’s going to swear on the carol but there’s a mess up in congress now is saying well let’s just use the constitution and do away with the bible
however uh… you did answer my questions and i’ll just uh… let you go because i know there’s a lot of people are smarter than me but i want to tell you that In Jesus’ name, and I feel barely how this TBN, the Feeding Broadcast, they must have had the, oh I suppose, the pledges in a week, they must have gone to the zigging dollars in the name of Jesus. And I think that’s terrible. And I know you agreed to me.
I absolutely agree. I’m so saddened by so many things that are done in the name of Christ, which really do not reflect on the, you know, the two reallys, it’s not the Christ of the Bible that they’re talking about because there certainly is an embarrassment to all of us. Well, I tell you, here I am a condemned Jew, but I would never use Jesus’ name if I wanted to sell my car and use him as a sponsor. And yet I’m punished and they are not.
But Dr. Hack, I want you to take care of yourself. I have your address and I’ll send you a little something to keep us going. Great. And listen, we hope to be on the air down there shortly in South Florida and in Hollywood. And again, it’s good to hear your voice and I wish you well. Well, like I say, you shall all and stay healthy. All right. I think most atheists do need you. Thank you a lot. Alright, bye-bye, Harold.
Take care. Harold claims to be a Jewish atheist and pray for Harold. We’re praying that he will come to know Christ. We’re going to go to Nashville, Tennessee. We’re on up there every day, twice a day, and we have Jimmy on the line, and Jimmy, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. How you doing, Dr. Hank? Good. Dr. Hank, I was going to ask you something. As the believers will lead the pathway and we go to heaven. Do you think we will remember our lives down here on earth?
I don’t see any reason why we would not. If you read Luke 16, beginning of verse 19, you have two people that die. Christ talks about real individuals and what happens as He pulls the curtain back on the unseen world. They both have conscious memories and they remember the past. The rich man who was lost, he recalls his life and how he has five brothers back on the earth that were unsafe. He didn’t want them to go to that place of fame and torment.
And Lazarus also had memory of his horrible times on this earth just trying to get the food to eat and having health problems and other problems. And now he was in the place where the believers were, paradise, and he was in comfort, whereas the rich man was in torment. So absolutely, I believe that passage in others would tell us that we’re going to have memories of the past. But I heard somebody say that like when we come into the New Heaven and in the New Jerusalem, when God would walk away our memories, a slight claim if I’m through the heart of somebody said that if I say if I had an unsafe family member and I saw them, you know, casting the hell, of course that’s going to make you feel sad and of course somebody said in order for God to do that you would have to, you know, erase your memories so you wouldn’t remember it anymore.
Well, that’s a possibility that those negative things might be removed, so we won’t have to endure that for eternity. But we will have memories, but perhaps the ones that would cause sadness will be taken out of. So I’ll have to wait and see. John, thank you for your call. That’s right. All right, Jimmy up in Nashville, Tennessee, we have Frank in St. Petersburg, Florida, Frank, welcome to Bibleline your own ear. Oh, thank you so much, Dr. Hank, for taking my phone call.
I love your radio program. I’m always edified. I thank you so much for your. I had a quick question. Actually, it’s not so quick, but maybe you can answer this. I’ve been reading Romans 6, and it seems confusing at times the whole question of when Paul is thing in verse 5 that the old man has been crucified with Christ. And I’m reading some of the commentaries. I guess my question is, you know, what exactly does that mean as a believer once we put our faith in Christ that the old man has been crucified?
And then I guess the other question that goes along with that is does the believer have What’s the nature? And the divine nature of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, or is it just one nature? It’s kind of confusing. It’s a hard chapter to work through, but anyway, I’m going to hang up and just listen to your answer. I appreciate your help. Thank you. I’ll give it a shot. First of all, when the Bible talks about our old man being crucified, it talks about the penalty of sin, which is death and separation of God and hell, has already occurred as God sees us in Christ and he sees us crucified.
So therefore we’re saved and delivered, but yet we still have two natures. We have a sinful nature that still wars against our new nature and vice versa so that we have a struggle and we have to make choices every day and moment by moment to serve the Lord and yield to the new nature and to refuse the old nature. So the key to the key or secret to the Christian life is to be obedient to the new nature and to follow God’s word and to refuse to feed or satisfy the old nature or the flesh.
We have to go to break. It’s amazing how quickly the time goes by. I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bibleline again. If you haven’t helped Bibleline this month financially, would you send a gift to Bible or call in and give a gift by credit card over the phone that would be of great help. We’re excited about what God is doing and we’d like to have you partner with us in this effort. We’re going to go to break and come back and do a second half hour.
So stay tuned to Bibleline and we’ll be right back. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. It’s 1-800-576-3771. Alright, I’m Dr. Anglister, but this is Bible and it’s great to be with you. We enjoy coming to you every day. We just got back from Israel a couple of weeks ago. We had a wonderful time and we’re going to plan to go back two times, one in October of this year, October 28th, and again somewhere in March or April of next year.
If you’d like to go, get on our prospect list and call in and let us have your number and name and we’ll keep you abreast of our plans. It’s going to be an exciting venture. This trip this year will be for the purpose of doing some filming for our television programs and it will be more of a learning, slower paced trip all in Israel. The one this coming year will probably include Greece or maybe even the country of Jordan as well as we want to go down to Petra and see the rock city that the Jews will flee and find refuge in from the Antichrist during the tribulation period.
In any case, we’re formulating what those trips will include and the first trip will be all Israel leaving on Delta nonstop to Tel Aviv and returning and all great hotels, great meals, all your airfare, your hotels, everything is included at one price. We’ll have a great time and we’ll be able to do a lot more teaching and it’ll be really a good learning trip for you. And then of course the one in the spring will be more fast paced and we’ll try to include at least one other country if not two.
So keep that in mind and give us your phone number and we’ll keep you abreast of our plans. Also we just started this new class in time controversy. It’s all about the controversy that has begun by Hank hannigrap coming out and ridiculing all of those who believe in the rapture and calling some of them false teachers. I know Jack Van Epi got very upset and put Hank’s picture up on the TV screen and said, how dare you call me Jack Van Epi a false teacher when I teach the virgin birth and I teach the shed blood of Christ for salvation and I teach the return of Christ at the rapture and the second coming and so on.
And it made, at least Jack Van Every very mad. And there’s a war seemingly going on here as a result of the new book Armageddon Code and the teachings of Hank Grenograph, which says Christ already returned back in 8070. Anyway, this class deals with those issues and what the Bible says and who’s right, who’s wrong, what does the Bible say and how to interpret the Bible? I think you’ll find it fascinating. You can still sign up to take this class on the internet if you’ll call our 800 number.
1-800-576-3771, you can sign up for the class. You’ll get a passcode where you’ll be able to view it as often as you like. Also, when we finish, these will be available on CD and DVD. You might want to do that as well. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Lindstrom a question? You can. Just pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. Alright, we’re back from the break. This is Bible and I’m Dr.
Hank Lindstrom and it’s great to be with you. And we’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida, from our studios at the Calvary Community Church where I’m the pastor. And we’d always love to have you come by and visit our Resource Center here. If you can’t, then you can visit our Resource Center online at BibleLineMinistries.org. Click on the online bookstore and you’ll see all of our resources displayed there for you. Also, this Sunday we’re having dinner. It’s the fifth Sunday of the month.
We don’t normally have two dinners in a month, but this is a Sunday where we have an extra Sunday, so we’re adding a dinner and that’ll be this Sunday, the fifth Sunday of April, the 29th of April. I’m going to join us for our worship service at 1030. If you want to come earlier, join me for my adult class at 915 and then stay for the wonderful dinner, the food and fellowship that will occur right after the morning service as concluded.
You’re welcome and if you can, again, on the Internet, you can catch our morning worship service. If you go there about 11 o’clock on the home page of my website, click on the camera And there you’ll see on the screen some flowing clouds you’ll hear the whole rugged cross and when I actually begin the message the audio in the video will come up and you’ll be able to watch the The worship service on Sunday and also goes into archives so you can catch it if you don’t want to catch it live anytime you please.
And there’s probably several months of worship services sitting there for you to be able to enjoy wherever you have internet. That means anywhere in the world. And so I hope you’ll take advantage. We are going to go to the phone lines and take live calls. We also have a bunch of offer questions. I hope we can get to some of those and take care of them. But we are so glad that you’re tuning in. And thank you for listening to Bibleline today.
We’re going to go to Pastor Jimmy in Oldsmar, Florida. And Pastor Jimmy, you’re welcome to Bibleline today. Dr. Hay. Thank you for taking my call. The septails us that were, if you just tell, the feeder says, it’s teaching like what’s you, some of these people, but in the DevOnline test, but it’s, you never find one of her, and if they could just grasp hold of the truth, because what they’re doing, they’re believing the devil’s lie, because God can’t lie, he promises to save us.
And programs like yours is, I’m sure, helping many out there, and thank you for it. Well, thank you. Did you have a question today or just making that comment? Well, I just want to say Dr. Oliver B. Green said, God knows who’s going to be safe, but that doesn’t determine it. Who’s sure of the will, as you said over and over, since I’ve been listening to you, who’s sure ever will may come. And Dr. Hain, thank you so much for your program.
I just trust that these people will learn something. And God bless you, and thank you for your program. All right, I used to listen to Oliver Green, and I loved his programs. He’s gone to be a whole world today. And he would always say, which touched my heart. God save that sinner that is closest to going to hell today as he would begin his broadcast. I never fail to forget about that. That is a statement that really sunk in because I know people that listen to the program not always are saved.
They need to know the Lord and certainly we want to see people get saved through Bible. Thank you, Pastor Jimmy and Old Marfora. We have now checked in Chattanooga, Tennessee. and check. Welcome to Bibleline your On The Air. Yes, sir, Dr. I heard your program coming through Florida here a couple weeks ago. You were saying that Billy Graham didn’t believe in a literal hell. Did I hear you right on that? That is what he says is metaphorical. He says that it is not a literal place of flame and torment where the person’s soul be forever and ever.
He would never really find that out. I only discovered that rather recently in a book on Hell where the different positions were laid out by people and it had the quotes in there where he made this statement. So it was amazing. Sometimes we have pastors using phrases and if they don’t define when they are telling you about it, they don’t really know sometimes whether they believe it is literal or not. I believe in a literal hell. I believe the Bible says that the place of flame and torment.
I believe that the rich man who went to Hades was in flame and torment. Christ said three times in Mark chapter 9 that the soul will never die and the fire will never be quenched. The Bible talks about weeping and gnashing of teeth. I think all those things are really true about the eternal hell. That just drives me to try to make sure I win everybody to Christ I can. I don’t want anyone to spend an eternity in hell.
Alright, well I agree with you and I was surprised when I heard that. I just wanted to clarify that but I appreciate your program. You’re welcome and I was surprised too when I read that and I saw the quotes and I believe it must be true. But apparently he describes it as metaphorical and not actually a literal place and I happen to believe it’s a literal place and I didn’t write the Bible but I just believe the Bible and I’m passing on what God says at a place where a person will never die and the fire that there will be enduring will never be quenched.
Read Mark 9 and you’ll see how many times Christ spoke about health. Thank you Chuck in Chattanooga, Tennessee and we’re glad to be on the air there I think three times a day up there in Chattanooga. We are now on with Elaine in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Elaine, welcome to Bimlin. Good morning. Hi there. Hi. Can I speak with Dr. Lynch? You are on the air with me right now. Oh, all right. Dr. Lynch, I heard your howls are called in.
He says that the Constitution says it’s freedom from religion. is not correct. No, I know it’s not. Constitution says freedom of religion. Well, that’s a great clarification. And I think, and I knew that and I should have said it on the program, but I thank you for coming back to that and clarifying that on the program. Yeah, a lot of people don’t understand really what the Constitution says, and it’s so important to be doing the biggest things. Yeah, so much.
Well, that’s wonderful. And I appreciate that so much because You’re welcome. You’re very right. I’ve had the program, Dr. Hank, but I’ll tell you something. You really do teach a lot. Let me tell you. I’ll let a lot come do. Well, God bless you and thank you so much, Elaine. God bless you. Keep well. All right. Bye-bye. And you’ll hear that. We have people tell us that they’ve had one family come by here, an older couple, and they said that in all the churches that have attended in all their life, they’ve learned more from Bible and in just a short time than they have in all of their church experience in their whole life.
And we hear that often and that’s a wonderful compliment, but it tells you about how churches are failing to do the job. They’re not really teaching like they ought to be and that’s really unfortunate. And maybe some might champion the cause to get back to the Bible and proclaim the Bible out and clear for people. We have Adam in Tampa, Florida and Adam, welcome to Bibleline you are on the air. He asked my question come from a Genesis in 22 and It’s about the sacrifice Isaac Mount Mariah.
Is that like Isaac a type of Christ or is the land interceded Christ?pret to be the land that is the land that is the land that is the land that is the land that interceded Christ. I’m sure. Mount Mariah is the Mount of public Jerusalem is built. It’s where the Jewish temple once stood and Calvary is a part of that mountain and it is the same mountain upon which Abraham offered up his son Isaac. Isaac is a picture of Christ.
He was Abraham’s only son and Abraham was to offer him up. And of course the ram is also a picture of Christ and that the ram took the place of Isaac. And so Isaac was set free or resurrected or delivered by the sacrifice of the lamb that took his place in the sacrifice instead of Isaac being sacrificed. So it’s a gorgeous picture of the crucifixion of Christ and the three days, the three nights, The whole story is there, the death of Isaac and the resurrection of Isaac and actually the ascension of Isaac, the Heaven is all pictured in that wonderful chapter 22 of Genesis.
Adam, thank you for calling in. We now have Matthew in North Adams, Massachusetts. Matthew, welcome to Bibleline. Hi, how are you Patrick? Are you listening on radio or on internet? Internet. Good. Well, how can I help you today? Well, I have a question about the whole issue of repentance and the definition and how some tracks would use that maybe incorrectly or I think most people use repentance wrong and it’s unfortunate because the The Greek word translated into the English word repent was not a good translation because the Greek word meta noia, meta meaning change, noia meaning mine, the two words together meta noia, meaning a change of mine.
It does not mean the same thing as the English word repent, where if you go to the English dictionary, repent means Sarvorsen or turning from sin, and the Greek word has no meaning like that at all. And the change of mind that the Bible talks about is really a change of mind about who Christ is and how you become saved. If you read in the book of Acts in Acts 2, the message of Peter on the day of Pentecost was to the very leaders of Israel who had crucified Christ because they thought he was a blasphemer, an imposter, a fraud, a counterfeit a charlatan.
And when Peter got done with his message demonstrating that Jesus was the real Messiah and they had crucified even they made a serious mistake in doing so they said what should we do in Peterson repent and of course the Greek word means to change your mind. When a person puts their trust in Christ they do repent they do change your mind. The expression I like to use is you can repent without believing but you cannot believe without repenting. What does that mean?
You can repent or change your mind about Christ, about salvation, about any number of things, and not trust Christ and not believe. But you cannot believe or trust Christ without having changed your mind in the process from whatever you were previously trusting in to now trusting in Christ. And so the phrase repent of sin never occurs in the Bible. And most preachers say repent of sin and define it as turning from sin that makes salvation by works. Because if you had to do anything, if you had to change your life or stop sending to be saved, that would be a human work and the Bible says it’s not of works, Ephesians 2 9, Ephesians 2 8 says this salvation is not of yourself, it is the gift of God.
So as soon as I have to do something, I remember preaching at the rescue mission here in Tampa, Florida and I would have people come up to the Afford and say, you know, you’re different. Most of the preachers that come down here to the rescue mission in preach will tell us that we have to stop our drinking or stop our smoking in order to become saved. And you tell us it’s the other way around. We can get saved and then God gives us the power that have victory over our smoking or drinking habits but it has nothing to do with our salvation.
And that’s true. And by the way, I’ve gotten a chance to preach up at the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago. which is such a famous rescue mission, where the radio program Unshackle comes out of. And that was a real thrill for me to be able to stand there where so many have stood and be able to preach. And we had about 40 get saved and I spoke there in Chicago at the Pacific Yard Mission. But, you know, many times in these different missions, they preach a works-based salvation and know one of these poor people get confused.
And we saw great results as people got excited to learn that God would save them just like they are. I love that hymn Christ received sinful men. And by the way, that’s the only kind there are because all of hymn. But he receives us as sinners and we can come like the hymn writer said, just as we are, just as I am I come without one plea. But that thy blood was shed for me is what the Bible teaches and is expressed so well in that beautiful hymn just as I am I come.
I hope that helps and I’ll tell you I have if you go to my internet site which you’re on the internet listening to the program look up Dr. Lynch from the articles I have a three or four on Repentance that I think you’ll find very helpful. Dr. Lynch, before you go I agree with everything you say and I think it’s probably the English use of the word repent and repentance that confuses people but i think if you apply to the biblical meeting i did a word search that in the old testament to turn from and i came up with all maybe at least a dozen verses that says uh…
for example i did fifty nine twenty turn from transgression to my eighteen eight turn from their evil He’s equal 18 21. Turn from all his sins. He’s equal 33 14. Turn from his sin. So I’m thinking that. Well, I agree with you. We have to go back down. If you look up through the Old Testament, you’ll find that the word shoe of SHUV is sometimes translated repent. That’s a bad translation. over 630 times is translated turn or turn from sin and it should never have been translated to repent.
That is a mistake that they made and I think it’s because you might find it a couple of times in one verse and they wanted diversity but the actual Hebrew word means regret or to lament as God repented or lamented that he had created man in Genesis chapter 6 and so on. But what is interesting to me is in the Old Testament, if you define it as turning from sin Matthew, of the 43 times the Hebrew word nature is used, translated repent, 37 of those 43 times, it’s got to repent.
So if it means to turn from sin, then you have a holy God who is not capable of sinning, turning from his sin 86% of the time. That the word repent occurs in your Old Testament. So it cannot mean turn from sin, or God is turning from sin. Because the 43 times that the word that is legitimately translated and repent in the Old Testament, it’s God who does the repenting. 37 of the 43 times if you divide 37 by 43 you’ll get 86% of the time it’s got to repent.
So it cannot mean turn from sin and certainly the Bible talks about Christians turning from sin in the Old Testament or God would discipline them and obviously God severely disciplined Israel many times because they would not turn away from their idolatry and the fact that they were breaking God’s laws and commandments and as a result God severely disciplined them but salvation is not based upon turning from sin. Salvation is based upon the finished work of Christ and when we receive Him as Savior we become eternally saved.
So you’ll find that if you check that out it’s God who does the repenting most of the time so therefore we got a serious theological problem there with a holy God who is not capable of sinning, sinning or turning from sin when it doesn’t sin at all, that doesn’t make any sense at all. But the turning from sin could be a mental conscious acknowledgement and an abhorrent to your sinful nature and in a conscious sense, not a physical do it by work’s way, but a conscious sense saying, yes, now I know my sinful nature, I know the offense to God.
So now, in my mind consciously, I turn to God. Is that a form of repentance? No, I think it’s people trying to accommodate the bad use of repentance when they try to do that, because, again, the Greek word simply is a change of mind. The New Testament word is very, very clearly simply that. And you’ll find that it’s exactly that, has nothing to do with turning from anything. But people will misuse verses to define repentance. One of those that’s popularly used is 1st Thessalonians chapter 1 verse 9.
And they’ll say this is a definition of repent. Although the word repent doesn’t occur anywhere in the chapter, they like to use this verse. And let me quote it to you here from 1st Corinthians chapter 1 and it’s in verse 9. It says, for they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, you, and how you turn to God from idols to serve the living and true God. And I read commentaries and I see people saying, this is repentance.
Here we have the people of Thessalonica turning to God from idols, and that’s repentance. Well guess what? This is not even talking about salvation. This is talking about a second choice, the people of Thessalonica meant, and it says As they turn to God from idols, the next two words are very important to serve, not to be saved, but to serve the living and through God. In other words, my life didn’t change at all when I got saved. I was saved and knew I was saved because God promised that to me based upon what He did for me, not based upon anything I would do.
But a year later, when I decided I wanted to serve a Lord, my life dramatically changed. Because now I realized if I was going to have an impact on others and be effective for Christ, I had to change my life. But I didn’t change my life to be saved, never have. But I did change my life so I could be a servant. He was a God. And I knew that there were things that I had to get rid of in my life if I was going to be an effective servant.
And that’s what happened here with the people of Pessalonica. They turned from their idols to God so that they could serve him. But they were saved by simply trusting. When you read Acts 17 when Paul came to Pessalonica and led these people to Christ, they simply believed the message concerning Christ as Paul articulated that the Old Testament scriptures taught the Christ had to suffer. and to be buried and rise again from the dead as the means of our salvation, and that this one that the prophets spoke about was Jesus, and it says there are many of those that heard Paul believed.
But then also they made the second choice where they turned to God for idols so they could serve Him. And Paul says what a testimony they became and how they influenced that whole region of the world at that time by their active witness as they did turn their lives around to serve it. So the turning in our life has to do with service and I have wanted to encourage everybody that is a believer to make sure that they turn their lives around and live them for Christ, but not to be saved, but because they are saved.
So that’s the difference and we’ll have to discuss this again on Matthew, but thank Thank you for listening and I hope you will continue and look up the articles that I have written on Repentance on my website under Dr. Nins from Florida. I think you will find them very helpful. And thank you for that call. We have Charlene in Tampa, Florida. Charlene, welcome to Bibleline your own ear. Hi, Charlene. Yes, Dr. Nins, I know we are running out of time.
I’m going to have trouble from yesterday and you will make some great points today. We’ve saved, and we take the same as standing next to the center, man. It’s thought there should be a difference. And if you are saved and you don’t change your life, or you all got to change you, I should say. What makes a difference? I think Chris is a two-user friendly with that term, and I think we’re sending the wrong message. message. I think as a result of giving her life to class, accepting Jesus and believing that there should be a change in you and God will make it change.
But I think Christians use it to hide behind that and continue in their evil deeds. And I think preachers and teachers, not you, but preachers and teachers send the wrong message when they say, say, No matter what you do, you’re safe, you’re making it in and people continue to see us not change the way that we live our lives. Well, I take on that. Charlene, you know, Christian is really ought to step up to the plate and live the kind of life that the believer ought to live.
But we need to make it very clear that we don’t become saved as a result of that. We are doing it because we love the Lord and we are grateful because of what He did for us that we now want to live for Him because He died for us. So that’s really what it’s all about. I find that when people really understand this message, they become grateful to the Lord to the point where they do choose to really live for the Lord from their heart.
I have people all over the world that are living for Christ that I’ve led to Christ and they They have dedicated their lives as well, and I have missionaries on five continents, at least people that have gotten saved and understood that they didn’t have to do one thing to be saved. And they’re so grateful that Christ died for them and was willing to give them the gift to be turned to life when they knew they didn’t deserve it and none of us do.
And as a result, they want to live their lives now for Christ who gave his life for us. So you’re right. I mean, I’m embarrassed when people do things that are Christians that they should not do. And it embarrasses all of us, Charlie. And certainly that should not happen. I’m Dr. Anglin Sherman. This is our television day.
