Bibleline Radio Show – 2007-05-07 – Discipleship

Discipleship is also divided into two groups. There is no middle ground. You either serve or you serve not. Discipleship is clearly based upon works! Where do you stand? Are you a believer? Then you are saved! If you are saved you ought to serve, not to be saved (which is impossible), but serve because you are already saved.

And if you have any questions, you can ask them on air, or you can leave them off air and we’ll try to get to them.

We have a number of off air questions. We’ll try to catch those, as well as catching the live callers today. We want to talk about the Bible for a few minutes, and then we’ll be getting to the questions. But I love this quote by Dr. M.R. Dahan. He’s since gone on to be with the Lord. But he certainly had a great influence on my early Christian development. And he was the founder of the radio Bible class out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

His grandson today is leading that radio Bible class. He does a good job. That’s MR the second and he’s the grandson of MR. Anyway, in Dr. Mahan’s book on Hebrews, he says this on page 117, there’s a vast difference, Dr. Mahan says, between coming to Jesus for salvation and coming after Jesus for service. Coming to Christ makes one a believer, while coming after Christ. He said, The disciples of Christ have been a believer, one accepts the invitation of the gospel to be a disciple, one obeys the challenge to a life of dedicated service and separation.

Salvation comes through the sacrifice of Christ. The discipleship comes only by sacrifice of self and surrendered to his call for devoted service. Salvation is free, but discipleship involves paying the price of a separated walk. So… Salvation cannot be lost because it depends upon God’s faithfulness, but discipleship can be lost because it depends upon our faithfulness. That’s the end of the quote. What a great quote this is. He really separates as we are to do rightly divide the word of truth in the scripture.

The difference between being a believer, which is how we receive salvation when we trust Christ, we are saved. The New Testament uses that word to describe those who have believed as the believers. Unbelievers according to the Bible are lost. Somebody who chooses them to go on and serve the Lord is one who becomes a disciple if they continue in the Word. But disciples, somebody following after Christ, continuing in the word in the pursuit of becoming a fisher of men.

But not all believers are disciples, and that’s quite obvious, I think. And of course, if you read the New Terrorism Letters, just read first and second Corinthians, and a lot of those were believers, but not really living for the Lord, not really disciples. That’s why the long letters were written to correct that and hopefully encourage believers recognize the effect that they’re going to stand before the Lord one day and give an account for what they have done not to determine whether they’re saved or not, but to determine whether they’re going to be rewarded or not.

1 Corinthians 3 talks about that judgment or fire will try our works and it says, if any man’s works shall be burned, he shall suffer loss, that’s loss of reward, but he himself shall be saved yet so as by fire. But if anything remains after the fire has tested your work, that person will receive a reward. So rewards will come as a result of our labor, but loss of reward will come from lack of any labor for Christ. But even if everything were burned up, according to the Bible, you’d be still saved.

You know, Judas amazingly was a disciple, but never saved. Judas never trusted Christ as his Savior. And that’s what Jesus tells us in several places in John 664, Jesus said he knew from the beginning who they were that believed not and who was the one that would betray him. He’s pointing out Judas as an unbeliever who would betray him. So Judas didn’t go to heaven, he went to hell because he never trusted Christ as his savior, not because he betrayed Christ, not because he sold him for 30 pieces of silver, not because he committed suicide.

I mean, there were lots of things we could point to in the life of Judas that were not really good. But you know, he wasn’t lost because of any of those things. He was lost because he never trusted Christ. Those who trust Christ are saved and they are saved forever. Well anyway, I am excited about that There’s a difference and once you understand this it helps you get focused because I trusted Christ and then I was saved, but it was a year later that I made my second decision to serve the Lord and That was the second best decision.

I made in my life and once you trust Christ you receive eternal life. You don’t wait till after you die to get it. You receive it at the moment you believe. But I began to be aware that I needed to live for Christ because I wasn’t obviously doing anything that was going to bring reward in heaven. And Jesus said, lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. And he tells us where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.

God wants to bless you. God wants to reward you and he talks about as we live for Christ here, we can be earning rewards in heaven You know you can’t take it with you when a person dies They leave it all behind You know a man was getting ready to die and he tells his wife. He says put all my Wealth up in the attic because when I die I want to take it with me when I go well She, after his death, went up in the attic to check if he had gotten all of his wealth to take it up to heaven.

And it was still there. She says, you know, I really should have put it in the basement. I knew that. Anyway, you can’t take it with you. Either place. When you die, you leave it all behind. But if you are a believer who is serving Christ, you can send it on ahead. What is interesting is that unbelievers are facing a separate judgment a thousand years later where their works are examined and That judgment again doesn’t determine destination Their unbelief will cause them to go to hell just like Jesus went to hell because of his unbelief But it will determine the degree of punishment in hell for those that are lost So works don’t determine destination, but they determine what happens at destination.

So for the believer rewards, degrees of reward are based upon what we have done since we have been saved. But for the unbeliever, degrees of punishment are assigned according to works. But it is belief or unbelief that determines the destination. If you believe on Christ, John 3 18, Jesus makes it very clear. He that believeth on Christ is not condemned. But he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name and the only begotten Son of God.

Have you ever trusted Christ the best English word to define the Greek word translated believe is trust and when you trust Him, when you put your full confidence in Christ as the only means of your salvation, God saves you. I hope you’ve done that. And once you do, you’re saved forever. Then you need to make that second choice and say, Lord, I want to serve you and choose the lift of the Lord and get into the Bible and find out what he wants you to do and then begin to do it.

I’m Dr. Hank Lindstrom. This is Bible and we’re going to go ahead and take the callers and the questions that have been left here for us already this morning. And you can call in at 1-800-576-3771, 1-800-576-3771, and leave your question. This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day. And I hope you’ll remember your mother. One of the commandments is the commandment to honor my father and my mother. So it’s a command of God to honor your mother. We’ll be doing that in this coming Sunday’s service.

We’ll be honoring mothers in the service. But also we’re having a breakfast. Moms go free at nine o’clock. Make Sunday morning. And if you are a mom, you’re welcome to come free. And of course, the rest of the family has to pay. But it’s a wonderful breakfast and a wonderful time to honor all the moms, Grandmoms and great-grandmoms and we’re going to do that at nine o’clock this coming Sunday and Celebrate the mothers in our morning worship service as well We have an offer a question Sally in Michigan calls in and she says first Peter 320 What happened to the people explained that died in the flood?

well, they all went to the heart of the earth to the torment part of of Hades, and there they are still to this very present hour and will remain there until after the thousand year reign of Christ, and then they will be cast into the everlasting lake of fire. Now it tells us that the same Holy Spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead preached The Gospel to these people through Noah while he was waiting while Noah prepared the art.

So for that 120 year period where Noah was building the Ark, the Holy Spirit speaking through Noah who was a preacher of righteousness, Peter tells us, preached the Gospel to those people. But they refused to believe it and now they are in the heart of the earth and they will remain there until after the thousand year enterprise and be cast into the everlasting lake of fire. These are called spirits in prison, the prison being that place in the heart of the earth.

And by the way, that’s where those who are deceived by Satan wind up going. And it tells us back in Isaiah that Satan doesn’t have the keys. Satan cannot release the prisoners that he has in that place because he doesn’t have that power. The believers in the Old Testament went to the heart of the earth, but they were in paradise. Christ has the keys to both sides, to both the comfort place and the torment place, and he released those that were in paradise or in the place of comfort and took them up to heaven upon his death bear on resurrection.

But the lost are still in the heart of the earth and Satan can’t deliver those that have died without Christ. We’re going to go to some more questions here. We have Claude in Toronto, Canada calling in. She says, We men. The R.E.D. designed to create children before, after the fall, and I believe that obviously God created men and women to be able to procreate and had nothing to do with the fall. But when Adam sinned back there in the garden cloth, he passed on the sin nature to his children, And you can see that almost immediately because the first two children were Cain and Abel and what happens?

Cain becomes a murderer and kills his brother Abel. Wow, the very next generation we find that murder occurs. Wow. So the first murder was Cain killing Abel and he was obviously the first children born Adam and Eve and they had a sin nature that they inherited. Had they not sinned in the garden, then they would have procreated children without a sin nature. But the fall of the human race occurred when Adam and Eve took of the fruit there in the garden.

Thank you, Claude, and glad you’re listening up there in Toronto, Canada to Bible on. We have David in St. Petersburg, or to call in and says, do you slant your teaching to Jesus coming back? Or do you think it’s out of our hands? I’m not too sure what you mean by that, but obviously I don’t slant my teaching. I teach what I believe the Bible teaches, and almost every book of the Bible is very plain that Jesus is coming again.

The whole book of Revelation tells us that beholdy cometh of clouds and every eye shall see him in Revelation 1-7. 21 said Revelation 1 7 is the book of Revelation in miniature. It summarizes the whole teaching that Christ is coming. The last two verses of the New Testament in the book of Revelation says that Jesus is coming. And John the Apostle responds and says even so come Lord Jesus, He’s coming, He’s coming, He’s coming. And you see it throughout the New Testament 23 times in the Gospels.

Jesus tells us to watch for His coming. If you are not watching for Christ coming, my friend you are delinquent because you are told to watch for His coming. So if you are not looking for Christ’s return, as a Christian you are failing in one area where Christ has told you I want you to watch and look for my coming. First Thessalonians 110 tells us the next event of God’s program is Christ coming for us at the Rapture. It says we are to wait for His Son from heaven which delivered us from the wrath which is to come.

So it’s quite clear that you can go to almost every New Testament book without exception and find that it talks about the return of Jesus back to this earth and the fact that he will set up a literal kingdom of a thousand years of peace on earth, good will toward men. It’s exciting because I’m looking for the coming. I hope you are. There’s a blessing, there is a reward for those who are looking. In 2 Timothy 4 verse 8 Paul talks about a reward, a crown of righteousness given to those who love Christ appearing and live in the expectancy that Christ could come at any time.

This expectancy is life transforming. John talks about it in his first epistle in 1 John chapter 3 where he tells us as we watch for his coming that has a purifying effect upon our lives because we want to live our lives so that when he comes we’re found pleasing in his sight. It’s very exciting. Well, in any case, we have lots of questions. We’re going to go to Sam over in Lakeland, Florida and Sam, welcome to Bibleline You’re On The Earth.

Hello, hello there. Hi, Dr. Lake. I enjoy your program there and everything there. Hey, I I didn’t give a comment. It was later called a Modern Soul Go. And she was saying that women did funny to the blood when it’s my baby’s funny to the man’s funny to the baby. And on the call she said that women’s funny to the blood too. But what the comment was what I wanted to say was I agree with that before that woman’s funny to the word but man’s funny to the first blood because if man one care to send nature and woman don’t, he had to be the one finding the first blood.

the way I understand you became way out wrong with life. Man finds the first bluer and he carried the sin nature and finds the bluer and she finds the bluer and the flesh and that’s what I would come in. I want to give on. Thank you. All right, Sam, thank you very much. Talking about the sin nature being passed on through the man and that certainly is true. Thank you Sam for coming to us at Benjamin in Clearwater, Florida and Benjamin welcome to Bible on your own ear.

Good morning, Dr. Han. I see in Revelation 6, verse 9 to 11, and also Revelation 20, verse 4, I think is talking about the same group of people. Now, those people that get a cure in the tribulation, I believe, when they come back to life to join the millennium with the US people, or they belong to the church. That’s something that bothered me because I don’t know. Okay, well the answer is they are not a part of the church.

The church is raptured out I believe in Revelation 4 verse 1, where you have the past 2000 years of church history outlined in chapters 2 and 3. and each of those seven churches picture a period in church history. Going back and looking at hindsight, you can see how beautifully they match up with church history. And today we’re living in the Laodicean Church Age, which is the lukewarm church, which is exactly what we have today. And we find that in chapter 4 verse 1 John said he saw a door opened in heaven, and he heard a voice as it were of a trumpet, and it said, come up hither, and John is caught up into heaven, and he sees the tribulation period transpire and the things that are hereafter, the things that are future.

And from that point on, chapter 4 verse 1, the church is not mentioned in the book of Revelation. So these are those that are martyred during the tribulation period. They’ve gotten saved during the tribulation and are martyred and are resurrected at the the end of the seven years and they will of course rule and reign with Christ for that thousand years. According to Revelation 20 verse 4 that you mentioned. So they will come back and rule and reign with Christ.

Benjamin, thank you for that call and I hope that helps. We have Steve in California calling in, I don’t know what town he called in from, but we have quite a number of listeners out there in California and he says, I am a virgin. My girlfriend is not due to a rebellious time in her life. She is repented of this sin. I guess my girlfriend is not due to a rebellious time in her life. She has repented or changed her mind about this sin.

Is there anything biblically forbidding me from marrying her because I am a virgin and she is not? No, there’s nothing in the Bible that forbid you from marrying her, but If of course if she’s married then obviously you cannot marry her and but if she is a Christian that’s the major thing and if you’re a Christian you too can of course marry and Steve thank you for your call out there in California We have Joe in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

He says, I heard a popular pastor, quote, 2 Corinthians 12, one through four as a proof for these people who claim they went to Heaven. I can’t believe it. Dr. Hank, I pray you get on the radio again down here soon in South Florida, God bless. Thank you, Joe. 2 Corinthians 12 really, of course, tells us that Paul, the apostle, was caught up in the heaven, but when he came back, he was not allowed to say one word about what he had seen.

He says he saw things and heard things that were unlawful for a man to speak. So if somebody did, and I don’t believe anybody today is, then they would be forbidden to say one word about what they saw. But there’s apparently about a good dozen that I know of that are out there claiming that they have been caught up to heaven and they come back and tell about their experience. That is forbidden. So if it did happen, they shouldn’t tell anybody, but I don’t believe that these people die at all.

I think that they might have had a terrible accident and a wonderful recovery, maybe a difficult recovery. But I don’t believe they’ve experienced real death. When you have real death occurring, the soul has left the body and it doesn’t return. Once you’re absent in the body, you’re present with the Lord, but they make up all kinds of stories and they don’t all agree, which tells you something is not right. And of course, the best. The first question is, what happens after death?

The scriptures are very clear. Once you die, then you will stand before the Lord. It says in Hebrews chapter 9 verse 27, it’s appointed unto men once to die, and then the judgment says, you are not going to come back. And Paul was an exception to the rule, but Paul was not allowed to talk about his experience. in Corinthians 12, 1 through 4. Thank you, Joe, for calling in about that. We’re coming up on our break time. It’s hard to believe it’s here so quickly, but we hope that you’ll be tuning in Bibleline every day.

Tell your friends about it. If you haven’t given a gift for the month of May to help Bibleline, you can do it by credit card over the phone or you can send a gift in. That would really help us because we are totally dependent upon you, our listeners, to be able to bring this program to you. So pray about praying for us and giving to us here at Bible and keeping us on the air. And thank God for those of you who do and we want to thank you in advance for your prayers and gifts to Bible and we’re going to take a break.

We’ll come back into a second half hour of Bible and so don’t go away. If you’re ready to write where it is, we’ll be right back. Don’t go away. Bibleline will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. It’s 1-800-576-3771. I’m Dr. Englund Stremen and this is Bible and we’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida from our studios here at the Calvary Community Church and we look forward to being with you every day. And we hope that you’re having a wonderful new beginning for the new week and we, this is Monday and we plan to be here all week long.

We hope that you will join us every day and tell your friends about the program. And of course, if you want to go to Israel with us, we’ll probably go this coming spring. March or April, give us your name and phone number and we’ll keep you abreast of when we’re going and the plans as they’ve developed. And we’d like to have your input, but it’ll be a wonderful experience. We’ve just come back and we’ve had a great time and we’d like to go again.

Also, we want you to know that we’re going to be putting Bible on the air in Africa on shortwave and it won’t be a live call and it’ll be more of a teaching program and we’re looking forward to that opportunity to have Bible I’m going to go on the air in Africa on shortwave and that’s going to be free to us. We’re excited about the opportunity to be invited to bring our message to Africa and pray for it since Bible I has open doors that we walk through.

God bless all of you who pray for us and give to us because it is your gifts that keep us on the air because we really don’t have any other source of income. We are trusting God to supply any supplies through our listeners who are blessed by the program and we hope that you are one of those that are enjoying the Bible and every day. I hope that you have trusted Jesus as your Savior. That’s obviously the most important decision that you have ever made.

If you haven’t made it, you need to do that. You need to trust Jesus as your only hope of heaven and only if you trust Christ as the only hope of your salvation will you be saved. Because if you add any works to it, you find that you nullify that. We are excited about the coming of Christ. We believe that the signs are about us everywhere. The Christ’s return is soon. And I’m excited that we are getting closer and closer to the Lord’s return.

What if he came this year? Well, I’m very proud of that, should he excite us about saying, wow, I need to get busy. I need to get my life in order because he could come this year. I’m not setting a date, but what if he did? We certainly wouldn’t want to say, oh, I got caught by surprise and I haven’t been doing all that I could do for Christ. This return of Christ is a very purifying and motivating truth in the Bible.

It’s called the Blessed Hope or the Blessed Expectation. We’re going to join the stations that have been on break and do the second half hour of Bible. So keep your radio tuned right here and we’ll come back into the second half hour. Would you like to call Bibleline and ask Dr. Linds from a question? You can. Pick up your phone and dial 1-800-576-3771. That’s 1-800-576-3771. Now here again is Dr. Hank Lindstrom. All right, we’re back from that break. And this is my blind line.

We’re coming to you live from Tampa, Florida. The studio is right here in Tampa at the Calvary Community Church where I’m the pastor. And again, we love to be with you and it’s Monday and we look forward to a great week. I hope you’ll join us every day in the Tampa Bay area. We’re on seven days a week. We play the best of on Saturday and Sunday. And in some other cities, they also play us at different times. You might have to call your station to see if they do.

But I know in several areas they play us multiple times. So we’re excited about that. And we hope that if you have a question, you’d feel free to call our 800 number, 1-800-576-3771, and talk to us. We’ll be glad to answer your question. You can leave it off here, if you like, with the operators. And you can also email it. You know, if you go to our website, turn to our radio page. There’s a place on there all set up for you to submit your question.

And that gets to us pretty quick. and we can try to get your question answered if not the day you send it but the next day. So give all those things a try. If you haven’t helped Bibleline financially this month of May, would you send a gift by a phone or give one by credit card over the phone? If you call our operators, they’ll be glad to get your address and send you an envelope with our address on it and or you can give a gift by a credit card over the phone.

We can also give on our online bookstore, we have a secure site where you can give increments as small as $1. That’s right. And no gift is too small. But if you could give a generous gift this month of May to help Bibleline, it would really be appreciated. We certainly depend upon our listeners and your gifts are obviously the lifeline that keeps Bibleline going. And to assure that it continues in your area, your gift is of course necessary. Thanks in advance.

God bless all of you who do give the Bible on. If you would like to go to Israel, we would like to go again, perhaps not until March or April of next year. And if you will give us your phone number, we will be glad to keep you on a list to keep you informed as we make plans. Tomorrow night we have the third week in our class called End-Time Controversy, all about the debate over the coming of Christ and methods of interpreting the Bible and how people go array.

But we believe if you believe the Bible literally you cannot possibly come up with these ideas that Christ has already returned and the world seemed to have missed it. That’s just putting pixie dust on the Bible and making it say whatever you wanted to say. And that certainly is not what got intended. He said what he meant what he said and we’re going to be talking about that having fun. You can order the series on CD when we get all finished all 10 hours and you can also call in and get the code and watch all 10 hours as they are delivered live on the web but also there will be an archive and you can watch them as many times as you want and review them on the internet from anywhere in the world.

That’s exciting. So consider that and we hope that you’ll take a look at our online bookstore online and many things that are things that are going to help you that I recommend that will really be a great tool to help you grow. I have some wonderful series that I’ve taught. The book of Hebrews is one that seems to cause people a lot of problems. I spent ten hours going through Hebrews verse by verse and all of the difficult passages are dealt with and explained and Hebrews becomes clear.

You might want to get something like that. A lot of people like the Book of Romans. We have ten hours of teaching on the Book of Romans. We have ten hours on the Book of Jude. Also we have twelve hours on the Book of Revelation, verse by verse. And we have the book of Daniel and many other books are on CD. Some of the newer teachings within the past year or so are also on DVD. And including the one that we’re offering right now will be available on CD or DVD so you can actually watch it and hear it at the same time.

We’re going to go to the phone lines. We have Washington in Pensacola. That’s interesting, isn’t it? Of course, the phone number here is 1-800-576-3771. We want you to call in. And Washington, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Thank you for taking my call. You’re welcome and what is your question? My question is that I’ve heard paths of fear when you pray and ask the Lord for something that you shouldn’t continue to pray for it because if you do, it’s a lack of faith.

And I was wondering, was it anywhere in the Bible that they state that you cannot pray for the same thing? No, that’s not true at all. In fact Christ gives a parable to tell us that we ought to keep on praying and keep on praying and don’t ever give up. As long as you’re not praying out of God’s will for something that’s contrary to what God says, it says that Luke 18, he speak a parable unto them to this end that men ought always to pray and not to faint.

And then he gives a story here about there was in a city, a judge who didn’t fear God nor was he a judge. did he regard man, but there was a widow in that city and she came into him saying, avenge me of my adversary. And he would not for a while, but afterward he said with himself, though I don’t fear God nor man, yet because this widow trouble with me I will avenge her less by her continually coming to me she weary me.

So here he gives the story. This judge said I’m going to take care of her problem because I I don’t want her to keep coming back again and again and again and just wearing me wearing me out And so the parable is keep on praying So wherever you’re getting your information has been wrong. You we are to continue to ask on Whatever it is we’re asking for as long as it’s not contrary to as well Okay, well, thank you so much.

You’re so welcome. That’s Luke 18 That was Washington calling in from Pensacola Florida. We have Adam and Tampa, Florida Adam, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yeah, my question has to do with John the chronological order of in John chapter 11. It talks about how Mary poured the perfume on the Lord’s feet to wipe his feet, but that didn’t happen until chapter 12. So how does the chronological order work out? No, I mean… Yeah, I’m trying to think here about whether it was two incidents or the order there.

Yeah. I’m going to have to take a fresh look at that because I haven’t worked on the chronology in quite a while. I used to spend a lot of time on those things that I have resolved in my mind and I just can’t recall at this moment. So you’ll have to let me look at that again and take a look at it. But some of the gospels don’t really necessarily try to go into chronological orders. That might be the answer.

The Scofield Bible usually will help you with these things about the chronology and has several of the notes really do a good job of laying out the events and when they happened and the chronology of it. So I don’t know what to tell you, Adam, is that I don’t have a good answer for you right at this moment, about at what point in time did that actually happen in the sequence. But we’ll try to take a look at that and see if we can come up with an answer for you.

We have John up in Richmond, Virginia, and John, welcome to Bible Honor. Yes, I’ve been wonderful. Yes. And I just was listening to someone about, you need to be looking for Christ, keeping yourself in order, looking for Him, where He might come in the tower. That’s correct. That’s what I thought. But then I hear it, you’re telling people they didn’t have to do that, but they see. That’s all they had to do. That’s also true. In other words, we trust Christ and we’re saved.

But, you know, the Christian life which brings about rewards is heightened in the excitement of it when we realize that Jesus is coming back and we only have X number of days to serve Him. Whether we die, maybe we’re going to live 70, 80, 90, 100 years here on this earth and whatever age you are now, you can do the math and figure out how many more years you might possibly have to serve the Lord. So we had to maximize that and use it so that we can have the maximum amount of God’s blessings and rewards in heaven when we get there.

But to think that it might even be cut shorter by an accident, you could be killed tomorrow. I could be killed today. But also the Lord could come and snatch us out. And maybe the fact that He might come this year would only give us a few months more to serve Him. So we ought to be excited about that and realize, wow, we need to use every day wisely and be laying up treasures in heaven by serving Christ. But if I never served Christ a day, John, I would still be saved because I’m saved by what Christ did for me.

Not by what I do for him. So when you trust Christ, you are eternally saved and Then we have the Christian life I started the program today with the quote by dr Dahan that says that all believers are not disciples but all disciples are not believers and When we become a believer we become saved and we’re saved eternally But then becoming a disciple is another ballgame where you follow Christ and you continue in the Word and you live for Christ and that’s what earns rewards in heaven for you.

John, thank you for pointing that out. That’s a great question. We appreciate your call. We have Claire out in Texas listening and she calls in leaves this question off air. How does quantum science relate to us as believers and why do some call it mysticism? Well obviously all the sciences impact every one of us, whether we’re a believer or an unbeliever. The fact that the sun comes up in the morning and sets in the evening. And the fact that that’s the time when we normally go to work.

And it gives us light. And we go to sleep at night when it’s dark and get our bodies some rest. And the Bible talks about it’s foolish for those who stay up late and rise up early and they don’t get the proper sleep. They shouldn’t so on. But all of these things are impacting us whether we like it or not gravity affects us. So everything in the sciences is really a part of God’s creation and does impact us. So I don’t think there’s anything to fear from science.

In fact, we are bound in a physical realm of space and time that God created back there here in Genesis 1-1 and we’re bound by his laws and he’s the one that invented all of the science that we study about and he’s the one that’s in charge. We have Steve down in Sarasota, Florida and Steve, welcome to BonBlin, you’re on the air. Hello, I have a question and it’s a right to go to a church that teaches that from Paul back.

Everyone was saved by water, works and beliefs and then from Paul on that it’s oh it’s by that’s exactly when people started getting saved. saved by Grace and they say Acts 2-38 really doesn’t apply to the Jew and did you have to kind of confuse if you can go to a church like that or follow your focus. Well that’s what it is. It is very confusing. You know, if you go to my website, Steve, you can look up there on the online books that I have.

And we have three sitting there. We have one that is called the Handbook of Personal Evangelism. That book is right there for you to read and study. We also have one called Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth. That’s Dr. Schofield’s notes on how to interpret the Bible. You can read and study and print it right out of your computer from my website. The third one is called Wrongly Dividing the Word by Harry Ironscience. That book will tell you what I think about this hyper dispensationalism where they segment the Bible and say that what Peter taught about salvation was different than what Paul taught and that there was one age or dispensation between Peter and Paul.

Paul comes along and changes the penisylvation. And of course they believe salvation is by grace alone now, but they believe that prior to Paul there was a different penisylvation and the whole Bible turns out to be that way. Well obviously that’s totally wrong because Peter tells us in Acts 1511, we believe through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved. Peter never taught another plan of salvation, nor did James. James taught salvation by faith alone. James quotes in James 2, 23, Genesis 15, 6, which is where Moses tells us that Abraham was saved by faith without works.

James quotes the same quote. But what James is talking about there in James 2 is that if you don’t have any works as a believer, you won’t have He has not talked about how to be saved. He reaffirms that Abraham was saved VIDEOS without words. But he tells us that Abraham earned rewards and was justified before men by his works. There is a tremendous difference. So let me just recommend, of course I believe it’s totally wrong and I don’t think you have to go to church.

The teachers said it’s very divisive because they spend all their time not leaving souls are Christ, but they spend their time trying to convince everybody that they’ve got some secret that nobody else knows about, and they spend all their time trying to sub-divide the Bible in lots of small compartments. I think it will look. Well, read what Harry Irons said, side said, back in 1918 when he wrote the book, wrongly dividing the word of truth. And it’s right there on my website on the online books and you’ll find that very interesting.

Thank you, Steve, and I hope that helps. I would not fellowship with those people. We would go to Ryan now. Ryan is in St. Petersburg, and Ryan, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the earth. Hey, I got a question that being saved put emphasis on even at my church Masters seem to always put emphasis on believing in Christ, but never put emphasis on repenting and I know it does say in the Bible If you do not repent you will not be saved And I even heard you this morning say if you believe in Christ and you are saved Right, I know plenty of people that I know plenty of I have plenty of friends that do believe in Jesus But never repented and I can clearly say but they believe with all their hearts, you know, okay Well, this is a problem because the Greek word for repent is not correctly translated into

the English word repent. They don’t mean the same thing. It’s the Greek word is meta noia. Meta noia. Meta means change. Noia means mine. The two words together mean a change of mind. And biblical faith or trust in Christ includes that change of mind. In other words, you can repent without believing, but you cannot believe without repenting. When you understand that, you understand true repentance. You can repent or change your mind about Christ and about how we are saved by faith and not by works, but not trust Christ.

But if you trust Christ, you do change your mind from whatever you were previously trusting in the trusting in Christ. It does not mean repent the Greek word metanoi does not mean to turn from sin or sorrow for sin which is not a requirement for solace. After we get saved the Holy Spirit comes into us and he gives us the power to have victory over sin but repent does not mean those things. In fact in the Old Testament it is even clearer because of the 43 times the English word repent occurs in the Old Testament, guess what?

37 of the 43 times it’s God who repents, not men. Only 6 times does men or do men repent in the Old Testament. So we’ve got a big theological problem if somebody defines repent as turning from sin because you have a holy righteous God who’s not capable of sinning, turning from his sin left and right. If you do the the math 37 divided by 43. It’s 86% of the time it’s got to repents in the Old Testament. So if it means turn from sin, then you have God who can’t sin, doesn’t sin, is not capable of sinning, cannot sin, sinning and turning from his sin.

So that’s crazy. It’s really unfortunate that the King James translators translated metanoia into the English word repent. So the phrase repent of sin doesn’t even occur in the Bible. But yes, repentance is included in biblical faith. If you have a scofield Bible, the note back in 1909 tells us repent is the translation of the Greek word metanoia. It means a change of mind. And it says in the last sentence of Dr. Scofield’s note there that saving faith includes and implies that change of mind which is called repentance.

Now again going back to the discussion that I had from the very beginning, once you become saved you ought to make a second decision after you become saved to become a disciple. And there are many Christians who have not, if you read the Corinthian letters, there was a lot of people there that were one man in chapter 5 was living in fornication with his mother, probably his stepmother, and he was proud and puffed up and it didn’t seem to hinder or bother him at all.

It says in verse 5 Paul says to deliver such a one unto Satan to kill his body for the destruction of the flesh that his spirit might be saved into the day of the Lord Jesus. So the Lord was allowed, or the Lord allowed Satan to kill this man, but yet he would still be saved in heaven. So God takes Christians home to have an early if they are delinquent as a believer, but a Christian can be delinquent And in 1 Corinthians 1130, because many of the Corinthian believers were living in violation of God’s Word and were disobedient, it says for this cause many of you are weak.

And sickly and many of you are dead, many of you sleep, and then it tells us as a warning that if we would only judge our own lives and keep them in order, we wouldn’t have to be judged. But verse 32 of verse Grinta 11 says, when we Christians are judged we are ch sunk or disciplined, that we should not be condemned with the world. The world is going to help. The world is going to hell. We’re not going to be going to hell, but we will be disciplined.

And in the Corinthians case in chapter 11 verse 30, many were made weak, many were made sickly, and many died because of their sin in their life. So it goes back to looking up the Greek word, the problem with most people is they go to an English dictionary and look up repent, That means sorrow for sin. It does mean turning from sin. But that is not what the Bible teaches. And yet, preachers will preach to their audience to turn from sin to be saved, claiming that’s what repentance is.

And then they’ll have their choirs saying, just as I am I come, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me. So it doesn’t make any sense. We have the preachers saying, turn from sin, and then the choir says, no, don’t do that. just like you are, without one plea. But that your blood was shed for me. Well, the hymn writer got it right. And this is the confusion that exists over that bad translation. So is the King James 100% right?

No. The King James obviously was on that particular word anyway, was poorly translated, metanoia, into the English word repent, it was a bad translation. So I hope that helps. Yes, the Christian ought to live, excuse me, holy ought to have victory over sin in his life, but it’s not a condition of salvation, but it does affect their witness and their testimony and will incur God’s discipline upon their life. And thank you for that call. I hope that helps a little bit.

There’s a lot of confusion out there about that. Thank you, Ryan. All right. And that was Ryan they that’s why a good concordance will help to be able to look up the original words And see what they mean and how they are translated that we have the strongest concordance which we recommend and for a few dollars you can get the access to a hundred two hundred Greek and Hebrew scholars and look up the words for yourself and I’m not the only one who teaches this.

Obviously if you look on my website, I’ve got three or four articles I’ve written on repentance. I quote Charles Ryrie, and Merle Unger, and Dwight Pentecost, and tons of good reputable Bible teachers who will tell you that repent means simply a change of mind, and it’s not a turning from sin. That doesn’t mean we are teaching people not to live holy, but the word repent doesn’t mean that. Alright, we have Hannah, I think, or Hannah in Tampa calling in office, she says, can you prove to me that the Bible is the Word of God?

I believe in Jesus Christ, but I’ve heard so many things as to where the Bible comes from, and is it consistent? Thank you. Well, yes, the Bible can be proven to be the Word of God, I believe, because I see a 484 says that God knows that we’re obstinate, brass-headed, iron-necked, hard to be convinced. So God says, I’m going to tell you things before you discover them, before you know them, in advance so that when they come to pass or when you discover them, you know this book is my word.

And nearly one quarter of the Bible is history, written before the history takes place. Right on, it names, for example, it tells the history of the nation of Israel. Over the past 4,000 years it’s right on. It tells how they would be dispersed when they rejected the Messiah the first time, how they would be scattered for 2,000 years and come back to the land. We’re living in the latter end of the fulfillment of that prophecy. The whole life of Christ was foretold in the Old Testament, some 330 detailed prophecies about the life of Christ that He had born in Bethlehem, born of a virgin, and how He would die by crucifixion all of that New Testament before He ever came.

The fact that He’d be buried in a rich man’s tomb and He’d come back from the dead. These things are powerful and I wish we had more time. But we uh… I would recommend a book for you that we have here at our Resource Center. And this one is a very powerful book on evidence. It’s called Evidence of the Man’s of Verdict. We have the latest edition which is really two books combined into one by Josh McDowell. Just call our operators and if you order that you’ll have more than enough proof that will convince I think the most ardent skeptic.

We’re coming to the end of the program. I wish we could take all of the other questions that we have today. We’ll probably have to pick them up and do them tomorrow. This is Monday. We hope you’ll join us all week long. Tell your friends about the program. And I hope you’re learning and are being blessed. We had one couple come by here and they said as they’re up in years that in all the churches they visited in all their life and all their church experience, they’ve learned more through Bibleline than they have from the combined learning they’ve had in all the churches they’ve ever attended.

That’s a real compliment to us. But a sad commentary on the fact that churches are not doing a good job teaching the Bible as they ought to and pray for us that we might be able to be a great resource. Keep looking up. Jesus is coming and we believe very soon. God bless and have a great day. You’ve been listening to Bibleline, a presentation of Bibleline Ministries of Tampa, Florida.
