Looking forward to hearing from you today. We get some nice comments here. We have one from Clinton in Memphis, Tennessee.
He calls in and says, you have really helped me over the past couple of years and your inspiration to me. Keep up the good work. And thank you, Clinton in Memphis, Tennessee. They’re great words of encouragement. Thank you for our audience who keeps telling us Bible lines of blessing to him. Well, you know, we’re going to talk today a little bit about how there is a tremendous difference between being saved and being a disciple. And I like the quote by Dr.
M.R. Dahan. He founded the radio Bible class and he was certainly one of my mentors as I began to grow as a young Christian. And from his book of Hebrews, here’s a direct quote I’m going to read from Dr. Emar Dahan. He says there is a vast difference between coming to Jesus for salvation and coming after Jesus for service. Coming to Christ makes one a disciple, while coming after Christ makes one a believer, while coming after Christ makes one a disciple.
All believers are not disciples. To become a believer one accepts the imitation of the gospel. To be a disciple one obeys the challenge to a life of dedicated service and separation. Salvation comes through the sacrifice of Christ. The discipleship comes only through the sacrifice of self and surrender to his call for devoted service. Salvation is free, but discipleship involves paying the price of a separated walk. Salvation cannot be lost because it depends upon God’s faithfulness, but discipleship can be lost because it depends upon our faithfulness.
That was Dr. Imardahan and he’s with the Lord in Heaven, but his grandson is presently running the ministry today, MR. Dahan II, Marty Dahan and I know Marty. What a great teacher and mentor Dr. Imardahan was. You know, the interesting thing about this is that when you discover this, you know, it helps you understand the whole Bible because the Bible separates many things and you need to separate between being saved and being a disciple. If you don’t, you get masked in Ephesians.
You can be a believer but not a disciple and I think most Christians are not disciples, But you can be a disciple and not be a believer. And that sounds strange, doesn’t it? But Judas was a disciple but never a believer. According to the Bible, Judas went to hell because he never ever trusted Christ as Savior. So there are conditions for discipleship that are not conditions for salvation. To be saved we simply come to Christ. He has completely paid our sin debt and all we do is come and receive it by faith.
But after we are saved we come after Christ and there are certainly things that we have to do to become disciples. Let me read a few from Luke’s Gospel and this will be in chapter 14. It says in verse 27, and who’s over toth not bear his cross and come after me? Please notice come after me as contrast with come to Christ to be saved. It says here, who’s over toth not bear the cross of Christ and come after me cannot be, cannot be, cannot be my disciple.
It doesn’t say you cannot be saved. It says you cannot be my disciple. Then in verse 33 it says, likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsakeeth not already half, he cannot be, he cannot be, he cannot be. It says here, my disciple. So to be a disciple, you have to be willing to forsake all, you have to be willing to take up Christ’s cross and come after Christ and so on and so on. And yet you’ll hear evangelists and preachers who don’t apparently know how to rightly divide the word of truth and they’ll include these things which are conditions for discipleship as conditions for salvation.
How many times have I heard a preacher at the invitation say I want you to follow Christ? I want you to come forward and take up his cross. imagine if you’re sick all and so on and so on as an invitation to salvation. Well, it’s totally wrong. That’s absolutely totally wrong. It’s not right. You know, I didn’t know what to do. Christ says you’re quite plainly who’s to whether that’s not taken his cross and come after me. Can’t be my disciple.
He didn’t say you can’t be saved. And when you make the distinction between coming to and coming after, you simply come to Christ to be saved. He’s already done everything that needs to be done for you to be saved. He’s paid for your sin debt and full by his death and shed blood. And when you trust in the finished work of Christ, you become saved. And all you do is come to Christ and trust Him and that will save you.
In Matthew, chapter 11, verse 28, Christ has come to me. you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Salvation is a gift. All you have to do is come and he will give it to you. It’s free. You just receive it. But then to be a disciple, you need to come after Christ and be willing to forsake all, to be willing to follow after Christ all the days of your life. And that’s the price that you have to pay in order to be a disciple.
So I was a believer. When I was 18, I heard the gospel, my trusted Christ, but for a full year I was not a disciple. And it wasn’t until a year later I dedicated my life to serve the Lord and tell other people about how to have eternal life that I became a disciple. So I was a believer, but not a disciple, for the first Christian year of my Christian life. I was saved, but not a disciple. But then I became a disciple.
But there are many Christians who are still not disciples. Yet there are many who are trying to be disciples who are not even saved. Isn’t that amazing? And I think it’s the most important thing to realize here. Is that Judas was a disciple, but he was never saved. So you can be a disciple. There’s a whole denomination that calls themselves disciples of Christ and they’re all going to help. Why? They’re trusting in their discipleship to get them to heaven and they’ve never really trusted Christ as the only means of their salvation.
You see, you can’t mix these two things up. If you attempt to do the things that are required to be a disciple to be saved, you won’t be saved because salvation is not of works. And if you add any works to what Christ has done, the Bible says You make void upon a salvation. I love Galatians 2.21. It says, I do not frustrate the word frustrate from the Greek means to thwart, to nullify, to cancel, to make void the grace of God.
It says, if righteousness comes by works or by the law, Christ died in vain. In other words, the very reason why Christ died was because you and I could not earn or gain eternal life. And Paul is saying that you actually nullify God’s offer of salvation when you attempt by works to try to do something to be saved or to stay safe. And most of Christianity falls into that category. I was raised with that where we had Christ died, but boy you had to do this and you had to do that and you had to do the other.
Look, I was confirmed. I was baptized, homogenized, pasteurized, capsized, simonized, you name it, I went through it, but I was not saved. And it wasn’t until I understood that salvation had nothing to do with my behavior, had nothing to do with my works, had nothing to do with my church affiliation, it had to do with whether I trusted Christ as the one who fully paid my send-down at the cross. And then only then did I finally understand the gospel and trust Christ and became saved.
But then I realized that I needed to serve Him if I was going to have God’s blessings, if I was going to be able to have the joy that the Bible talks about, if I was going to have rewards in heaven, that would come about by service. But I wasn’t serving to be saved. I was saved and I was serving because I was saved. And I was excited about that. And I wanted to demonstrate the fact that I was grateful to the Lord.
I told myself if he could save my soul and if he gave his life to do that, well, at least I could do is tell somebody else about him. And so I said, what? I’ll start telling people. I’m just so grateful that I’m saved and that Christ paid the price. It was his death and shed blood that purchased my salvation. There was nothing I could do. And so this is obviously very, very significant. What a great verse, Galatians 2.21 is, I do not frustrate or thwart or nullify or make void.
The grace of God. We’re saved by grace. The Bible tells us by grace are you saved through faith in Christ and the salvation is none of yourself. It’s the gift of God. None of works, as did he mention those Ephesians 2, 8, and 9. So Paul is making it very clear in Galatians 2, 21, if you add any works, if righteousness come by the law or by works, Christ died in vain. He wasted his death. It was worthless. But Christ died, of course, because there was no other way we could be saved.
And we’re only saved when we just cut all the other strings. If I were to ask you the question, are you trusting Jesus Christ as Savior? You might be giving me little signals that maybe you’re not. For example, if you were sitting in church and I were to ask you, are you trusting the pew you’re sitting on to hold you off the floor? You might say yes. But you know, upon closer examination I see a cable coming down from the rafters in the ceiling of the church and there’s a safety harness hooked securely around you.
I would have a tendency to say, you know, I don’t really think you’re trusting the pew to hold you from falling on the floor. I see that cable, and it seems like you’re telling me that should the pew fail, that you have that cable securely anchored to the roof structure, and that’s what you’re really trusting in. And I think a lot of people are like that. They say in one breath, they’ve trusted Christ. And the next breath though, if you ask them, where are you going to heaven?
Well, I’m working at it. I’m trying my best. I I’m hoping that God will let me in. And they’re really saying that they’re really not trusting Christ. They’re really trusting in what they’re doing. And they’re hoping that they’ll do enough or do good enough to be able to get in. How about you? Have you trusted Jesus alone? Christ said, I am the way. He didn’t say, you and I are the way. He said, I am the way. And I’m the life.
And I’m the truth. And no man can come under the Father but by me, not by you and I together. We’ll pull this thing off. He said, I am the way. Christ alone is the way. And when you trust Him alone, God saves you. I hope you’ve understood that concept. There’s a vast difference between coming to Christ and coming after Christ. vast difference between being saved and being in the cycle. It’s two different ball games, and you really have to separate that out.
And you’re saved by simply trusting Christ, but you become a disciple by serving Christ. But remember, you can be a servant of Christ and go to hell because you must trust Him and trust Him alone to get to heaven. I’m Dr. Inclins from this Bible, and we’re excited about being with you today. We have Tim calling in from the east coast of Florida, Lake Worth, Florida, and Tim, welcome to Bibleline your own year. I have two quick questions. Okay.
Number one is why is the word heaven not capitalized in the Bible? First of all, there is no capitalization in the Greek language and it’s the translator’s choice. So when the King James was made, they sometimes, even with the Holy Spirit, don’t capitalize it when they should. And I think they just didn’t get it right sometimes. Okay, secondly, I have read that there are about 12,000 words in the Hebrew Aramaic and Greek languages, and there are only 6,000 in the English language.
English language which makes it almost difficult, extremely difficult to translate with any accuracy from the original manuscripts and I’d kind of like to have your opinion on that. Well, there are more words than the English language but you know the King James did really a wonderful job of making it simple. The King James translation is really written at a fifth and sixth grade level. And when people complain about the King James version, I always say, do you have trouble reading at fifth or sixth grade level?
And usually I don’t hear anything more from them. But all the other translations that are out there are usually three to five years greater difficulty than the King James. to be able to express all of the wonderful truths of God’s Word and just that many words is quite a remarkable feat. I think they did a great job. Okay, and one more thing real quick, the gentleman who calls in who’s grandson, and he’s in the Catholic family, that happened to me and worse things can happen.
Just be thankful that his grandchildren are at least learning about Christ even though there may may be some things that we as Christians don’t agree with, but good peace with that. Work out okay for me. Amen. Well, thank you so much and absolutely, you know, anybody who’s seeking, I don’t care where they live or what system they’re under, they can come to know Christ. And I have met people like that from all over the world that were seeking and were in the most, it seemed, impossible environments.
And yet they got saved. So you’re absolutely right. Thank you Tim for calling in. That’s Tim in Lake Worth, Florida. We’d love to hear from you today. And it says here we have an off-air question. We have Aaron in Dade City, Florida. He says, I’m curious of the context by which number 2319 was written. Does this call into question God presented himself as a man through Jesus Christ? . . . . . . . . . I don’t know that.
It’s just simply saying that God is not like man and that God does not change his mind once he makes a decision, whereas we as humans do. So, certainly Christ is God and at the same time he is a man. And we know that Hebrews 13, 8 tells us Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. He doesn’t change. He doesn’t change his mind. But the ordinary human being probably changes his mind a lot, and you probably have changed your mind numerous times.
So I think that’s really all it’s telling us here is that the wonderful thing is that you can go to the Bible and know that God hasn’t changed his mind since it was written, more will he ever change his mind, and therefore the word of God as Peter tells us, liveeth and abideth forever and ever. You can count on whatever God has said not to be changed and that’s good isn’t it? God tells us in Isaiah that his word is going forth out of his mouth and it will not return.
What does it mean? He’s not going to take his word back. He’s going to be true to his word. It’s going to come to pass just like he said it and that certainly is good news. I read a little comment a moment ago from Clinton in Memphis, Tennessee. He says, you really helped me over the past couple of years and then your inspiration to make you up the good work, but he asked the question and he says, are we still under the law?
And could you give me some scripture verses to shed some light? The answer is Clinton were no longer under the law, but the law was taken away. It was nailed to the cross and now we’re under grace. The book of Romans is a marvelous book to read that would certainly give you a lot of scripture on that. But let me just take you for a moment to Romans 6. It tells us here that Christ was crucified and He paid our sin debt and full.
So therefore the law has served its purpose in that it was to show us that we’re sinners and that we needed a Savior. But when Christ came and became that Savior, the Bible tells us that we are no longer under a lot. We’re under grace. Grace is God’s mercy, unmerited favor that is bestowed upon all those that would put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior. I hope that helps Clinton and thank you for listening there. Author Patty in Tampa, Florida calls in.
She says, I trust in Jesus Christ as my Savior. However, I feel drawn to my Jewish heritage. Does that make me a Messianic Jew? Are Messianic Jews important in the end times? Well, I think that’s just very natural. We all have a being drawn to our heritage. And you know, even as Gentiles, we have a spiritual heritage in the Bible and the Old Testament. And Abraham, according to the Bible, is our spiritual father. your Jew or Gentile. We’ve all been placed into one body and we have that wonderful heritage that we are walking in the same footsteps of faith that Abraham had as he trusted in Christ as his Savior.
Abraham was saved four hundred and something years before the law was ever given at Mount Sinai and he simply believed the promise of becoming Savior. And When he believed that promise of Jesus coming, in Genesis 15 and 6 it tells us that Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness. And that’s the key to everyone and anyone being saved. And so yes, you are a Messianic Jew if you are a Jewish person, physically related back to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, but have trusted Jesus as your Savior.
That means you are Jews that have received Christ or received the Messiah. The word Christ and Messiah are equivalent words. They are absolutely equal. So instead of saying Christianity, we could say Messiah, Hanate, and it means the same thing. This is the anointed one. The Bible speaks about the word Messiah means anointed one. And the anointed one is the Messiah, this savior that would come that would be the one who would give his life on the cross of Calvary to pay for our sins.
Christie in Tampa calls in, she says, the Bible says for men to love their wives, but not the other way around. Why is that? Well, guess what? I think you’ve just not read your whole Bible. If you look over in Titus, Christie, it tells us here that the older women are to… Teach the younger women to be sober. This is Titus 2 verse 4 to love their husbands to love their husbands to love their husbands Titus 2 4 make it out of that.
Christie it does say for wives to love their husbands as well as it does say for husbands to love their wives. So hopefully You would take a look at that verse We’re gonna come up here on break real quick So we’re gonna go ahead and hold off all our calls if you’d like to call in the numbers 1-800 5763771, 1-800-576-3771, and we’re excited about being with you today. And the newer ones that you find in your Christian bookstore are watered down. They’re the hybrid, which is not only the New Schofield Bible, but the Old Schofield Bible and kind of merged together. The watered the notes down, they’re no longer as strong as potent as they used to be. And they’ve had to do notes, so they’re not by Dr. Schofield. And you don’t have them identified. So you don’t know what you’re getting. You’d have to be really careful taking a 1909 edition and comparing it with what you’ve got to find out whether this is one of the genuine notes by Dr.
Schofield or whether somebody else’s notes that are thrown in there. And I really don’t like the notes in the newer ones. I think you really are getting cheated. So if you want to get that old Schofield, we have it in our Resource Center. You can order it from us. Everything from a soft cover for about $20 to a genuine weather large print for around $100. So we’ve got a lot of variety and we are having more difficulty getting them, but we’re still able to get them and we thank God for that.
And so we hope that you will please give us a call or write down our address. We can send you a resource sheet. Our dress by the way is Bibleline 4811, 4811, George Road, Tampa, Florida, 333634, that’s Bibleline 4811, George Road, Tampa, Florida, 333634. Several people told me that I just never could get her. I’d dress copied down. I’ll try to read, sign it more often for you. The phone number by the way is 1-800-576-3771. We’re going to go now to the phone lines.
We have Paul in Sarasota, Florida. Paul. Welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Yeah, thank God. If you let’s go, we’re talking about God not changing his mind. Well, he gives the appearance of it, but he really doesn’t. You know, he knows the end from the beginning and he actually doesn’t change his mind. But you know, in the book of Genesis, he regretted that he had made man and had to destroy Paul’s life, except for no one’s family, at the flow of Noah’s flood.
And it says that he repented God that he made man. And due to what man had done, obviously, he had to bring judgment. But he knew what he was going to do. And obviously, God, the Bible says, bottom line does not change his mind. So you have to look at the verses where, like in the case of Jonah preaching it, none of them, he was going to destroy that city. He sent Jonah to tell them that but they repented and changed their mind and so God did not destroy them but ultimately he did several hundred years later he did one destroying none of us but he spared the city because they had responded and you know just like us we’re all headed for hell we’re all condemned but when we change our mind in place our trust in Christ as Savior then He saves us and we’re forgiven and we wind up not going to hell.
So in reality, he doesn’t change his mind, but sometimes it gives the appearance that he does. But God is not like man who does change his mind. He stays with his word. I hope that helps. I hope that helps a little bit. Very good. Thank you. Thank you, Paul. It was Paul down in Sarasota. And we have our lines lighting up here. We’ll try to catch as many calls as we can. We’re still trying to catch some of the offers here we have Saul.
He is asking us to explain Isaiah 41 verse 8. It says here, But thou Israel art my servant, Jacob who I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. He is telling them that he is obviously on his side. What is exciting about this whole chapter here and you are asking about all the down to verse 17, but it’s saying here that God is going to take care of this people and that he actually has a future plan for Israel.
The replacement theology people, which there’s a bunch of them out there, the Roman Catholic Church is replacement theology. They believe that God is through with the Jude. This all began with Augustine in the 1st, in the 5th century. They believe that the church has replaced Israel and the concept of, of course, totally is contrary to Scripture. That has, and here’s what rightly dividing the word of truth is all about, you have to realize that God has set Israel on the sidelines while He’s turned now to the Gentiles for the past two thousand years in this age we call the church age, but once the rapture happens, That is going to return to his plan for Israel.
Israel will become the head nation and Christ will rule over them as king. From Jerusalem, that’s all literally going to happen. The Old Testament is full of promises to Israel that they will literally have a kingdom and the throne of David will be revived. And Christ will sit upon the throne of David really over Israel forever. That was the promise made to Mary in Luke chapter 1, but because Christ was rejected this has been postponed, but certainly Israel has not been replaced.
They’ve simply been put on the sideline temporarily. And this wonderful chapter tells us here that he’s not going to forsake them. Verse 17 of this chapter he asked about Isaiah 41 says, When the poor needy seek water, there is none and their tongue fails for thirst, I the Lord will hear them. I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.” And he’s talking about Israel in the context here. He’s not going to forsake Israel. He’s going to take care of them.
And he has, you know, the fact that they have survived without a homeland for these two thousand years is quite remarkable in itself. I’ll never forget I was at the University of Florida and I was taking a course on government. And they said that one of the things that kept a country, a people, a nation together was the homeland. The rocks, rivers, the hills, the mountains and so on were a major part of them retaining their national identity. Once a people lost their homeland, they never would survive as a nation.
But then it said in my syllabi that the only exception was the Jewish people, that even though they lost their homeland 2,000 years ago and have been scattered throughout all the world, they’ve retained their national identity. Isn’t that incredible? And now they’ve gone back. And this is what the Bible predicted would happen, that they would reject their Messiah, they would be cast off of their land and they would be scattered for 2,000 years and yet that they would come back and regain that land.
Become a nation again and Christ would come back. That is truly remarkable. That’s one of the major reasons why the Bible is true. Because this involves millions of people over thousands of years and what an incredible prophecy and impossibility really because no other people have survived without their homeland. to make a prediction that the Cuban people would all be cast off in the island of Cuba. And for two thousand years, be disfersful out the whole world, and then they would come back and take over Cuba again after two thousand years.
We’d all probably laugh. It’s just not going to happen. But Israel lost their homeland two thousand years ago. Here they are back in that land right now. The Jewish people still have retained international and empty, even though they’ve been scattered all over the world. It’s quite remarkable. 41 is a he’s really a love letter to Israel. I believe of God’s Protection and care for them that he’s not going to forsake them. He is going to bring them back to their land Robert down in Sarasota leaves this altar a question He says I’ve read many times in the Bible where Jesus would say don’t tell anyone For instance when he would heal someone or when he was configured on a mountain when his disciples were with him why Jesus wasn’t trying to bring notoriety to himself because of the healings he did.
I believe he did it because he had compassion. The Bible says in Matthew that he had compassion on the multitudes. And he cared. He really does care. And that’s why he healed. You know, the modern day healers, they want to benefit from your so-called healing. And they want you to give testimony on national television or be a part of their book that they’re going to sell. and Christ never tried to do that. He did it simply because he cared and he’s God, who came and took it on him in flesh, and he cared enough that he was willing to die so that you and I could go to heaven.
Obviously, we didn’t deserve heaven, and he wasn’t trying to get publicity for himself. God doesn’t need that. But he died on the cross because he loved you and me and he wanted us to receive the gift of eternal life. Thank you for that call, Robert, and we hope that answered your question. I’m Dr. Englunds from the survival line. The phone number here, if you wanna dial in, 1-800-576-3771, 1-800-576-3771.
We’re now going over to Carl in Tampa. He calls in and leaves this off your question. Please explain Mark 16 through 18. Well, I’ll turn there, and he has a couple of other cross references here. Let’s see what this is all about. First of all, in Mark 16, 16, we have a verse that is often times misused. It says here, he the believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he the believeth not shall be bammed. Now, in that verse, it’s not talking about water.
It’s amazing to me. Most people see the word baptize, and immediately their mind has a tendency to say, water, water, water, water, water. If you read the context of Mark’s Gospel, Mark chapter 1 verse 8, John the Baptist begins by saying, I indeed have baptized you with water. But he that comeeth after me shall baptize with the Holy Spirit. Alas, the last time you read about water in Mark’s gospel, that’s it. It’s over. You get here to chapter 16, Christ has already been crucified.
He’s now risen from the dead. And this is the one that we’re quoting here, Christ Himself, and what baptism does Christ baptize with? The answer is, which John the Baptist gave us in Mark 1 8, is the spirit baptism. And so Christ is saying here, I believe, he the believeth and his baptized shall be saved. And to be saved, you have to be baptized with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which every believer experiences. 1 Corinthians 12, 13 says, by one spirit, are we all?
Are we all baptized in one body? you, Jew or Gentile, Bonner free, you’ve all been placed into one spirit. And so everybody has the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And that’s the one that saves. Water will never save. We just baptized a bunch of people who have passed Sunday, immersion, put them under, came back up and it didn’t save them. Why did they do it? Well, they were doing it to give testimony of how they were cleansed and are sinned by the blood of Christ.
The water was merely ceremonial or symbolic of what had taken place. So this is a wonderful verse, but it’s certainly not talking about water. He the believeth and his baptized shall be saved. You must have the baptism that Christ baptizes with, and when you believe on Christ you do receive that baptism. Everyone that is saved has been baptized with the Holy Spirit. up 1 Corinthians 12, 13 which says exactly that. Well we have then the next couple of verses talking about the gifts that would follow Christ.
And these gifts I believe have ceased. They were temporary in nature. And it says that I’ll read the verses here in verse 17 and 18 of Mark 16. These signs shall follow them that believe. In my name shall they cast out demons. They shall speak with new languages. They shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.” Well it’s interesting to me that people pick out…
And I don’t see too many people to do today. Bitten by deadly snakes that survive. That was, I don’t see any at all. Usually you die. And there are some churches where they hail deadly snakes. And you read from time to time that the preacher dies and the assistant preacher dies, they get bitten and they die. The Bible says here that they would not be hurt. preacher dies and the assistant preacher dies, they get bitten and they die. The Bible says here that they would not be hurt.
Also talks here about drinking any deadly thing. I don’t see anybody drinking an arsenic cocktail and surviving. I mean, this was some of the gifts, but people picked the ones that they want. All of these, I believe, were spectacular gifts that really did occur. We see Paul, for example, Shipwreck gathering firewood, putting it into the fire and a viper leaps out and touches himself to his arm and everybody expected Paul to drop dead within minutes. It was a very deadly snake and he simply shook the snake off into the fire.
Paul survived. They thought he must have been a god because this was unusual. Well, that was one of the gifts and Paul certainly had that gift. But if you’ll notice carefully here, it tells us here that they went forth in verse 20 of Mark 16 and preached everywhere the Lord working with them and confirming the word with signs. Notice these signs were all confirming the spoken word until the New Testament record was completed. 1 Corinthians 13 talks about certain gifts that were temporary in nature that would confirm the spoken word until the written word was established.
Of course the New Testament was completed at the end of the first century, by then all of the spectacular gifts were gone. And I believe these five gifts listed in March 16 are gone as a result. So I hope that helps a little bit, Carl. He also brings up a passage in Luke’s Gospel in chapter 10. And let’s see what it says there. This is Luke chapter 10 and he cites verse 19. It says, I give unto them power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.
And nothing shall by any means hurt you. Well, again, this goes back to one of the same gifts that we saw there in Mark 16 verse 17 and 18 that you would be able to drink a deadly drink or be bitten by a deadly serpent still survive. Those were all temper in nature and that was true during those days, but I think that they all have ceased, as the Bible said, that these gifts would cease in half. So hopefully that helps.
Thank you, Carl. That was a great question. We now are going to go to Joan down in Venice, Florida. And Joan, welcome to the Bible. Good morning. Good morning. I just missed what you were saying about the Scottsville study Bible. I have one and it’s called the Scottsville study system, the copy by 1909, 1917, 1937, 1945, and it says no special help or references can be reprinted without permission from the publisher and then has been flapping editors, Western, great, Erdman, Pearson, Moore, Head and pedingles, and then it has a statement, and it says, with a new system of new system, that is, of connected topical references to all the greater themes of scripture with annotations, revise, marginal rendering, summaries, definitions, terminology, and index, to which our added help, and our spaces, explanations, naming discrepancies, and a new system of paragraph.
So I just wondered, is this the one you’re talking about? and I have to hang up because I can’t hear on the telephone. All right. I’m on the radio. Well, don’t, I’m not really sure, but, you know, this is the devil at work. I think, you know, when they come out with a, and what they’re doing, but Oxford Press is trying to do is, is, you know, the copyright ran out long ago on the Old School of Field Bible.
So anybody and everybody can publish it, But they don’t because Oxford Press has carried the market by coming out with new. And you know, it’s like new Colgate, new Tide, new whatever you see the advertisements all the time about making a product new or better supposedly. But in this case, they don’t make it new. And in order to get that new copy, they have to make 10% changes so they change the old notes so they don’t read as well anymore.
them and I’m not too sure what that description just gave me whether you’ve gotten. One in the cleverly tried to appeal to back, went to the original old Schofield. But I think those words new in there might be a tip off that you have that hybrid that I talked about. I’m not too sure. I wish I could look at that and read further. But I’m concerned that a lot of people are getting cheated in the Schofields that are advertised today.
the Old School Phil is really great, but more and more we’re getting kind of tricked out there in the book market. Thank you for calling in. Joan, we now have Judy in Brandon, Florida She says, please explain the Three Heavens and scripture references. Well, the Third Heaven, Second Corinthians, let’s just go there first of all. In chapter 12 of Second Corinthians Paul was caught up in the Third Heaven. The three heavens are number one, the atmospheric heaven. And there are many verses that talk about that.
We have Ephesians 2-2 where Satan is the prince of the power, the heir. That’s the atmosphere around the earth. And Satan is the one who controls the earth and the atmosphere around the earth presently. And that’s the heavens where we say the birds fly off into the heavens. It’s obviously the atmosphere. I don’t know when we get in an airplane. We travel in the atmosphere, but we really don’t go beyond the atmosphere in our conventional aircraft. But then there is the Second Heavens, which is the Planetary Heavens, and I think those are described in Ephesians 4, 10, which are the visible universe, what we can see with our telescopes and with our eyes.
But then the Third Heaven is actually Heaven itself where Paradise is where God is, and That’s where Paul was caught up and actually saw the real heaven where we’re going to live one day and then came back. But he was forbidden to talk about it. So in order to keep him humble, the Lord gave him an illness and he played three times for healing and God didn’t heal him. I think it’s such a fascinating passage when we talked about healing.
God sometimes says no. And yet almost all of the so-called healers today say that it’s God’s will for you to be healed. And if you don’t get healed, it’s your fault when the Bible says in Paul’s case, no, I’m not going to heal you. And Paul had some wonderful friends and Paul had to get to healing. Why didn’t he heal them? He should have healed Timothy who had stomach problems and a couple of other friends had illnesses and he didn’t heal them.
Why not? The answer is it’s not God’s will always force to get one. In fact, we’re all all going Peshawar. Once you get up there at age, there’s a good possibility you might slip on into eternity because we can’t expect us in these bodies that we have here to live forever. They’re going to get old and they’re going to die and we’re going to of course meet the Lord. Sheila in Clearwater calls in and she says the Lord’s prayer.
It says lead us not in the temptation, but also since God tempts no one, Please explain. Well, I think you have to779 to go to James, where James gives us a wonderful explain. He’s about being tempted and actually it comes within us. And so if you go to James, almost there in my Bible, it It tells us here in James chapter 1, it says, Let no man say, When he is tempted, James 113, I am tempted of God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempted he any man.
So we find here that God doesn’t tempt you with evil. But it says here, but every man is tempted when he isj drawn away of his own lust and enticed. The temptation comes within ourselves from our old sinful nature that we have inherited from Adam. So that is a, I believe the answer there, and of course, God is, you’re appealing to God to keep you out of areas where you would be tempted, but God is not the one who’s tempting you.
So there’s nothing in the way of contradiction there, that’s for sure. Thank you for calling in. We’ve got a good day and we’ve enjoyed being with you. is running out, but I mean just say if you’ve never trusted Christ, do it right now. Just say, Lord, I’m a sinner. I don’t understand a whole lot, but I trust Jesus and Jesus alone as the only means of my salvation. You have to really cut all ties, everything else, and just simply trust Christ.
When you do, then God saves you. If you’re trusting Christ plus works, my friend, you’ll not be saved. The Bible says salvation is not of work. Yet after we become saved, yes, we ought to work for the Lord and God will reward us and bless us for doing that. Again, we thank all of you who pray for Bibleline, God bless you. For those who have given to Bibleline, we thank God for you. If you could help us, we’re still struggling to get through this summer.

And by the way you can tell people in other parts of the country or other parts of the world because if they have internet connections they can go online. Maybe you have missionaries in another country, would you let them know how they can tune into Bible and hear these programs?
That’s right, they can. And also our worship services and all these things might be a blessing to those on the mission field that maybe miss the fellowship of believers here in America. Also your friends in relatives of the countries or other parts of the United States, tell Tell them about the Bibleline Ministries website. It’s BibleLineMinistries.org or .com and they can click there and they can go and get all kinds of resources. Of course they can also type in a question and we’ll answer it on the air and we’ll be able to hear it no matter where they are in the country.
When we were in Israel in March of this year, we met pastors and lay people from Nigeria, from upper Nigeria and lower Nigeria, and they were telling us that they listened to and watched Bible and programs on the Internet. Isn’t that incredible? It’s amazing to me how God has opened up the Internet in such a wonderful way. We have people over Europe, Africa, all over the Middle East, all over the Far East, the Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South America, Central America, North America.
It catches on the Internet. It’s quite remarkable. In the month of June, we had 2,800 people just view that seven-minute video at the beginning of our site there to hear the Gospel. We’ve got to run, but keep looking up. Jesus is coming if you can help Bibleline with a gift this summer. Please call that 800 number and do that. Listen for the address at the end.
