That’s when you come in the morning at 10.30 and stay and be my guest for lunch. have a lot of wonderful home cooked food. It will be a great day, but we are also planning a baptism. If you have not been water baptized since you have been saved, we are inviting you to come and we would be honored to baptize you.
Some people tell us that they don’t attend a church where they immerse in baptism, which is not a requirement for salvation, but every believer ought to be baptized since they have been saved. If you were baptized is an infant, that doesn’t count. There’s no such thing in the Bible as infant baptism. If you were baptized prior to your salvation experience, it doesn’t count. It’s not really believer’s baptism. You’ll find in the Bible that it was those who had understood the gospel, had believed the gospel, and gave testimony of their salvation that they were cleansed by the blood of Jesus, that it was the blood of Jesus that washed away their sin.
Revelation 1-5 says unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood. And when we are immersed in water, we’re giving a ceremonial picture of how we’re cleansed of our sins by the blood of Jesus Christ. And you’re invited, if you’d like to be a part of that call, get your name on the list. We’ll talk to you about details. But that’ll happen about 3 o’clock in the afternoon. You can make it a day.
Come and join us for worship services in the morning. Stay for the wonderful lunch on the 21st of October the 3rd Sunday and then of course stay and we’ll all go together to the baptism which will be on Lake just north of the church. I love that outdoor setting. It is beautiful and we want you to be a part of it. That’s October 21st the 3rd Sunday in October. You’re always welcome to come by though. We have services in the morning and the evening on Sundays.
We have a Wednesday night service. welcome to Drop In On Us and visit us anytime. This past weekend we had a family all the way from New York that listen up there every day out of the Albany, Utica, New York area and we welcome you to come and visit us wherever you might be living if you ever come to Florida. We’re right next to the airport. You can just take an extra minute or two and come by knock on our door.
We’d love to shake your hand and meet you and we hope you will. This is by the line I’m Dr. We’re excited about being on the air with you, being able to talk about the Bible, being able to answer your questions. We’ve got lots of all fair questions. I hope we can start getting that list taken care of. But we’re talking a little bit about predestination from the Bible. A lot of people believe that God has made the choice for you.
This is oftentimes called Calvinism, but that is not true. God has chosen the means of salvation that is through faith in Jesus Christ, but He’s not made your choice for you. A lot of people will take verses and read them wrong or read them out of context, and one of those that are oftentimes used is the one in Ephesians 1-4 where it says, according as as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world. And people point to that verse and say, don’t you see?
You see? It says it right there. According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, Ephesians 1-4. Well that’s what the verse says, but guess what it’s saying? If you read it carefully, notice the two words there in him. It says according as you have chosen us in Him before the foundation of the earth. How are we found in Christ? The Bible says this, He’s chosen everyone in Him in Christ to go to heaven.
But if you’ll make a cross-reference here to Philippians 3-9, it says be found in Him that is the responsibility put on our shoulders, be found in Him. And if you look at the last two words of that verse, it says, by faith. Philippians 3 and 9, be found in him by faith. Be found in him by faith. Be found in him by faith. In other words, when you place your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, God the Holy Spirit takes you and places you into Christ.
And you are found in him. And here it says in Ephesians 1-4, according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world. So you’ll find that there are those who are without Christ and there are those that are in Christ. Let me say it again. There are those that are without Christ. That’s the unsaved, the unbeliever, the one who has not been born again. And the one who is in Christ, the one who’s trusted Christ, the one who’s been born again, one who has been placed into Christ’s body.
The operation by which we are placed into Christ’s body is called the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Who receives this? Every believer does. Every believer. 1 Corinthians 12, 13 says, by one spirit, are we all? A-L-L, all baptized into one body. Whether we are Jew or Gentile, Bond or Free, we have all been made to drink of one spirit. The Holy Spirit takes us. This is the operation of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It’s the Holy Spirit taking the believer at the moment of belief and placing you into the body of Christ.
The result is 1 Corinthians 12, 27. It says now, not later, but now you are the body of Christ and members in particular. So at the moment of faith, at the moment of trusting Christ, at the moment you put your trust in Jesus Christ as your only hope of reaching heaven, God, the Holy Spirit, takes you and places you into the body of Christ. And as a result, you become Christ’s body and members in particular. Isn’t it wonderful? And as a result, God sees you positionally in Christ and that means everything that happened to Christ, God saw that happening to you.
In other words, you’re crucified with Christ as Paul tells us in Galatians 2.20. They were crucified together with Christ, yet nevertheless we live. saw you in Christ’s body on the cross when Jesus died because God the Holy Spirit places you in the Christ body when you trust him and he saves all those that are in Christ. When Christ was buried, Romans chapter 6 tells us you were buried with Christ. So when you trust Christ to save you, you’re placed in the body of Christ.
So when he was crucified, you were crucified. When he was buried, you were It says in Romans 6 that when he rose, you rose from the dead. Also, it tells us that when he ascended, 40 days after the resurrection, according to your position in Christ, you were ascended to heaven. And in Ephesians 2, 6, I love it so much. It says he has raised us up together with Christ when he was raised from the dead and made made us sit together, made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
As far as God is concerned, you are already in heaven, if you are a believer. You, positionally, are seen by God in Christ. And so Christ, when He was crucified, you were crucified when you was buried, you were buried when you rose from the dead. You rose from the dead when Christ ascended to heaven. You ascended to heaven. And when Christ sat down on the right hand of the Father. You sat down in Christ on the right hand of the Father.
Let me read that verse again. Ephesians 2, 6, and that raised us up together with Him and made us sit together in heavenly places. Look at the last words here. In Christ Jesus. In Christ Jesus. This is so important. When you read your Bible, you need to be a careful student. And in Ephesians 1, 4, it says according as yet shows us in him, in him, in him, in him before the foundation of the world. How do you find yourself in him?
The answer is by faith. Look in 3-9, be found in him. Not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith in Jesus Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith. If you take out the middle part of the verse it’s really saying, be found in Him by faith. And it’s being found in Him. And when you are seen by God in Christ, He doesn’t see your sin. It says, don’t be found standing before God in your own righteousness, which is of the law or keeping the rules of the Bible.
But the righteousness which is of God by faith, when you trust Christ, you You are seen in Christ, therefore God looks down and sees Christ, He sees His righteousness, so when you are in Christ, He sees you as righteous, and you are therefore going to be saved. God has chosen everyone in Christ to be saved. I live here in Tampa, Florida. This is where we broadcast from. From our studios here at the Calvary Community Church, we’re on the pastor.
say that you were to go out to the Tampa International Airport and you would book a flight to Chicago, a nonstop flight. Well guess what, the airlines months ago determined that that flight leaving maybe later this afternoon would depart from Tampa and land in Chicago. Now the airline is already predetermined. That’s predestined. But it’s your choice whether you’re on that airplane or not. You can go out to the airport and buy a ticket and then be permitted entrance into that airplane.
And when that airplane takes off this afternoon, it will leave from Tampa and fly directly nonstop to Chicago. And there you would get off the airplane in Chicago. Well, let’s just use for our illustration. We’ll call it FlightJesus. God has predetermined that flight Jesus will leave planet Earth and arrive safely in heaven. You can choose to be on that flight. That’s right, you can be in flight Jesus. How do you find yourself in flight Jesus by trusting Christ as your Savior?
When you trust Christ, then you are placed on that flight and when that flight takes off, you’re going to arrive safely in heaven. God has chosen that flight Jesus will make heaven. And everybody in Christ, in flight Jesus will arrive safely in heaven. He didn’t make your choice. You’re not forced to get on an airplane. But when you trust Christ, you are in Christ. And if you’re in Christ, you’ve been chosen to go to heaven and you will go to heaven as a result of your faith.
The Elmighty, the great evangelist, made it so clear and so simple. He had a way of making things simple so that the average person could understand them. He said the Whosoever wills are the elect and the Whosoever won’ts are the non-elect. My friend is not simple. God has chosen the Whosoever wills. And in John 3.16 it says Whosoever, believeth in Christ, should not perish but have everlasting life. Are you going to be on flight Jesus? Are you right now found by God in Christ?
Well the Bible says that he before the foundations of the earth chose everyone in him in Christ to go to heaven. And if you’re a believer, you’re going to be there. I’m going to be there. And it wasn’t because God made the choice for me. God determined that whosoever would believe in Christ would not perish but have eternal life. He also chose that whosoever would not believe, would not believe, would perish and not have everlasting life. If you die as an unbeliever, you’re outside of Christ.
If you’ve trusted Christ to save you, you’re in Christ. And God has chosen to take everybody in Christ to heaven. Isn’t that great news? If you’ve never trusted Christ, would you do it right now? tell the Lord Lord I’m a sinner I don’t understand a whole lot about the Bible but I believe what I heard just now I believe John 3 16 I believe Jesus died for me paid my sin debt and full was buried in rose again from the dead I trust Jesus Christ right now To save me, to forgive me, to give me the gift of everlasting life, and you know the moments you do that God saves you.
And you can be absolutely certain of going to heaven. And you’re going to be on flight Jesus, and whenever, Ed Nothra should the Rapture happen, that flight takes off, you will go directly, non-stop the heaven, 2 Corinthians 5 8. Absent from the body, present with the Lord. What good news that is second Corinthians 5 8 absent from the body present with the Lord We’re gonna go to the phone lines if you like to call us the numbers 1 800 576 3771 1 800 576 3 7 7 1 we’re on the air in Jacksonville, Florida We’re on a 50,000 watt station there that reaches all the way over to Gainesville Lake City Everybody on the I-75 quarter coming south are going north.
Everybody on the I-95 quarter going north and going south and Everything in between can hear Bible and every day if you’re listening up that area give us a call and we have A call already from jack’s full this morning Sophia is calling in from Jacksonville Sophia welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air Good morning dr. Lynch room I’m gonna ask again and then hang up to hear the answer almost reading last night but I’m so confused about the book of Revelation.
It was Revelation the first verse of chapter 12. So I just stopped there because I wanted to explain it to this morning. It talks about a woman that has a crown of 12 stars and the sun, she’s roped with the sun and all that. And I was thinking, that’s not talking about the Virgin Mary is it? And then after that, I just wanted to do you have any studies in your church there that I could order something about the book of Revelation studies nil I can understand it better.
And I’ll hang up and take the answer. Thank you, sir. Okay Sophia, absolutely do. I have a 12 hour teaching on the book of Revelation verse by verse. It’s really popular. We can hardly keep them stocked here, but that’s verse by verse in the book of Revelation 12 hours and it’s for a gift of $60. You can listen to and fro in your car, wherever you go or listen in your home wherever you are. You can put those CDs in your CD player and play them.
In Revelation 12, it says there appeared a great wonder. A wonder is a sign something to be interpreted a wonder in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun and the moon and with the under her feet and upon her head a crown of twelve stars. If you read Genesis you find out immediately what this is talking about. It’s talking about the dream that Joseph had back in the book of Genesis. There he dreamed a dream that the sun and the moon and eleven stars bowed down to him.
It turned out that he was the 12th star. It’s talking about his father and his mother. That was Jacob and his mother. And we find that Jacob had 12 sons that became the 12 tribes of Israel. As Jacob’s name was changed to Israel. And so basically therefore the woman is Israel. The father of the whole nation was Abraham. His grandson Jacob was the first Israelite, his name was changed from Jacob to Israel, which means child of God, and his twelve sons, the twelve tribes of Israel, you remember the story, Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, they hated him.
And down in Egypt, God raised him up to be second in command of Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. And when it was famine throughout a whole area of that Middle East, his family in Israel came down to Egypt to get food. In order to get food, his mother and his father and his 11 brothers had to bow down to Joseph is talking about Israel. And it talks about Israel having a baby. This baby is the Messiah that had been predicted to come out of the nation of Israel and it tells us in verse 4, and the dragon that Satan stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
Wow, Satan was ready to kill this baby as soon as it was born. You get these wonderful Christmas cards and you see this table, you see the baby lying in the manger, you see Mary and Joseph, you see the shepherds that came and so on. But nobody has done a Christmas card like this, but if you could pull back the curtain on the spiritual world, that area was just surrounded by Satan and his demons. Satan was right there. He wanted to kill that baby.
Wouldn’t that change your attitude when you You He’s seen the Satan there with anger and bitterness in his eyes wanting to kill this baby. Well obviously he tried numerous times and of course he used Herod to kill all the little babies two years old and under and Bethela him in all the surrounding regions to get rid of this baby, but this baby it says here in verse five she brought forth a man child who has to rule all nations with the rod of iron.
That’s Jesus. At the second coming, that will be fulfilled. His kingdom has been postponed because he was rejected, and Christ will rule the whole earth. But it says here that her child was caught up into God and to his throne. And of course that speaks of the ascension of Christ. After he was rejected, forty days after the resurrection, Christ was caught up to God and to his throne. We’re now waiting for him to come back. You’ll find that I have that wonderful series of book of Revelation available.
Just call our operators and they can take your order and send it right out to you. And you’ll be able to go right through the whole book of Revelation with me verse by verse. Thank you for calling in Sophia. We call was from Jacksonville, Florida. Let me catch it off here. A question. We have Off-Air Kelly in Venice, Florida. She says, would you You please explain 1 Corinthians 7, 1 Corinthians 7 verse 11. I’m almost there and we will take a look at that verse which says in chapter 7 verse 11, but if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband and let not the husband put away his wife.
The phrase put away means divorce. It is talking here about a marriage where one of the two in the marriage becomes saved. It causes division in the marriage. It is saying here that in verse 10, under the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, let not the wife depart from her husband. In other words, don’t abandon the marriage because one gets saved and this causes extra problems within the marriage as you’re divided over this issue. It says here, but if she departed, let her remain unmarried or go back and be reconciled to her husband and let not the husband divorce his wife.
So it’s saying here that you need to try to preserve the marriage. God does not like divorce and he tells us later that if you stay the result might be that you’ll win your unsaved spouse to Christ. It says in verse 16, what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt say thy husband, or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt say thy wife. So if you stick with it, you might lead him to Christ. I never forget a number of years ago, a lady that just wept over her husband not being saved, and how that it really created a big strain on their marriage.
And I told her to just read 1 Peter chapter 3, which gives advice as to how you can win that unsaved partner even without words. And so she would leave literature from Bibleline around the house. And she just was a good wife and prayed for him. And you know, I met Bill after this and he got saved a year or so later. And he told me that he really would secretly read that literature that his wife was leaving around in the bathroom.
He said he’d go in the bathroom and he’d lock the door and he would secretly read that literature and through that he got saved. Isn’t that wonderful? Now they both attend church together out in California and their relationship has become a great one and she was faithful to not leave the marriage and just like it says in verse 16 and 1 Corinthians 7 it says what Noah saw, a wife, but that you might win your husband, might save your husband and that was of course one of those good endings to the story.
If you just follow the scriptures you’ll find that God can bless you in that way. We’re going to go to Claud. He’s up in Toronto, Canada and Claud, welcome to Bibleline you’re on the air. Hello, good morning, Dr. Lisa. I am Com- Now, that’s true. No, that’s not true at all. The seven Adventists don’t get it right, and that’s because they’re reading the writings of Elinji White who didn’t get it right. They don’t believe in hell. They don’t believe that Elinji White taught that Jesus was Michael the Archangel.
Almost the same doctrine says that Joel’s witnesses, I would stay clear. But the Bible teaches that at the moment you die as a believer, 2 Corinthians 5, 8, you’re absent from the body present with the Lord. We know that when Jesus returns seven years after the rapture and sets up his thousand year kingdom here on this earth, that we’re going to come back with Christ as his bride and we’ll be here on the earth during that thousand years. Then the earth will be destroyed, God will create a new heavens and a new earth and will live with the Lord in eternity then in the New Jerusalem forever and ever and ever.
Well, Claude, thank you for calling in from Toronto, Canada, and we hope that answers your question. I noticed that I got a doubt and so you probably have hung up. We’re really coming hard against the break here, so I have to hold other questions and callers till after that break. But I hope that you’ll listen to the second half hour of Bibleline. By the way, Bibleline is listener supported. If you feel this program is worthy of being out there on the air, we hope that you’ll help us not only with your prayers but also financially.
The only way we can pay our bills is for you the listeners to help us do that because we have no other means of support. I mean no other means. We don’t have a piggy bank. We don’t have subscribers. We trust God to supply. You can send a gift by mail or you can give one by credit card over the phone. Would you pick up that telephone and call our operators at 1-800-576-3771 and tell them I’d like to give a gift to the Bible and to make sure this ministry continues.
We’re going to break. We’ll be right back after the short break. And I hope you’ll keep your radio tunes right where it is. The line will be back in a moment. Give us a call at 1-800-576-3771. Alright, we’re back from that break. This is Bibleline. I’m Dr. Englunds from we’re excited about being with you. Thank you for tuning into the program. We’re coming to you live out of Tampa, Florida. It’s Wednesday and we’re coming from our studios here at the Calvary Community Church. We’re on the pastor.
And we hope that you’re enjoying the program. We hope you’re passing the word passing the word about the program along to your friends and your neighbors and hopefully others are listening every day. And many I know tell me they listen every day. Some that are out on the road tell me they try to arrange their schedule if they’re sales people or delivery people a little bit so they can listen to as much as Bible out as possible. But many go back in the evening and listen to the full program after they’ve had dinner and they’ve relaxed and they go to the website Bibleline ministries and there they can click on the spinning globe and catch all the radio programs.
You can download them into your computer, you can put them on your iPod, you can carry these with you throughout the day or the week and play them wherever you might be in the world. It’s exciting. We’re thinking about a trip to Israel coming up in April of 2008. You might want to get on the prospect list. I’ve been 14 times. This will be trip number 15 for me. What an exciting visit it is to see the places where Jesus walked and talked.
This is where the Bible was written and wow, what a great enlightenment it is. It’s a trip of a lifetime, no doubt. And I just love to go Every time I’m as excited as I was the first time on my first trip to Israel. I was really excited and we got to the edge of the Jordan. I handed my wallet and I don’t know what else I had my hand to somebody and I just dove in swam to the other side, waved at everybody in my group and then swam back.
I just couldn’t resist jumping into the Jordan and I’ll never for you that experience and the excitement of seeing the Jordan River, the Sea of Galilee, the Dead Sea and the different sites that are there. No doubt about it. A thrill. And every year when we go we always baptize people in the Jordan River. If you’ve not been water baptized we’ll be happy to baptize you in the Jordan if you want to go with me next April 2008. Also we’re having a baptism in October the third Sunday here at Calvary Community Church in Tampa where I passed her and some people don’t have a church home.
One lady told me that she would come from New York down here to Tampa to be baptized because she didn’t have a place. So I think her whole family is coming down and they’ll plan to be with us on one of our baptisms and for something like that we would do a special one to accommodate your traveling schedule. But certainly if you’ve not been water baptized you’re invited to call in get your name on the list and be a part of this baptism at three o’clock in the afternoon on the 21st of October.
It’s a great Sunday because it’s a dinner Sunday so you can attend the worship service in the morning, stay for a wonderful lunch, be my guest and then at three in the afternoon we’ll all go to the baptism and I think you’ll find it be a wonderful, wonderful day. Call us and get your name on the list and we’ll give you instructions about the baptism coming up. You’re always welcome to come by and visit our resource center to say hi to this on the door during the week or come by on a worship service day.
You’re always welcome, always excited to see people that come in. We just finished the gospel of John 18 Hours of Teaching. That is now available on CD and DVD. You can get all 18 hours of teaching. It’s actually more than 18 hours because my classes generally run about 65 minutes. And so if you add five minutes to all 18 hours, that’s 18, that’s five in an issue. get around 19 hours of teaching. And that’s all available on CD. We have that broken up into two parts, part one and part two, nine hours each for a gift to $50 each or a gift to $100 gets the whole gospel John, verse by verse, and I think you’ll enjoy that.
Also we have it on DVD for a little bit more, $150 you get all 19 hours of teaching On DVD, that’s audio and video. You can play it for your family or friends on your TV or on your computer. I think you’ll really enjoy that. This is Bibleline and Dr. Hank Lindstrom. It’s Wednesday and we are coming to you live out of Tampa. We’re going to go now to a caller from Tampa. I think it’s DQ. Help me with that pronunciation.
I hope I got your name right. I don’t like to mispronounce names. How do I pronounce your name? Hello? Is this the cue? Yes. Alright, welcome to the Bible and you’re on the earth. Yeah, the question that I want to, according to 1 Corinthians chapter 9 verse 20 and so on, there are churches named as contemporary churches that they use to smoke, lights and everything with the purpose to gain youth people. And I want your opinion about the biblical way according to chapter nine of First Corinthians, like I said.
Well, okay, and I’ll answer that. You know, I believe really that we’re trying to lure people with the wrong things today. This verse I think is not used to support that, If it is, it’s used wrongly. Paul says under the Jews, I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews to them that are under the laws, under the law that I might gain them that are under the law. That doesn’t mean though that we compromise our beliefs or we compromise our music.
What is interesting today is that we have this, what they call praise and worship. and we have praised and worshiped leaders. There is nowhere in the Bible where there is a designated church office called worship leader. It’s interesting that the worship leaders today have more influence, more time in front of the congregation than the pastor does. I visited a funeral a couple years ago and I always like to get every place that I go to early. And I went in and the church was empty.
It was early before the funeral. I was going to attend. I wasn’t performing it. When I sat down and I looked up at the front, I saw prominently displayed the highest thing, foremost thing in front of me on stage was the drums. I said to myself, this is what they focus on here in this church, is the music and the drums. slower and less well-lighted in a more darkened environment was the pulpit where the pastor would stand. And it seems to me I said to myself that they de-emphasize the word of God here.
They highlight and they exalt the music and they diminish the position of the teaching of the word of God. What a reversal we’ve had. I visited Europe and the churches of Europe and the Reformation. And you know many of those churches had a very high pulpit. It was the highest thing in your vision when you sat in the congregation. And some of them even had a ladder or staircase that led up to the pulpit. What were they saying? That these words that the preacher would preach from God’s Word were God’s words coming from heaven down to man.
that this was the most important thing in the church above the music, above everything else that took place. It was the Word of God that was exalted. And what a visual I got when I sat in some of these churches in Europe, the historical churches of the Reformation, they exalted the Word and that’s what God blessed during those years. And today we’re exalting everything else. And by the way, the first worship and praise leader that I read about in my Bible was Aaron, the brother of Moses.
Do you remember when Moses went up into Mount Sinai? And there he was for 40 days and 40 nights. And guess what? Moses led them. Rather, Aaron led them. And what did they do? They sang, they danced. Boy, there’s a parallel in there today. And guess what? they drifted off spiritually and the people wanted a golden calf. And so the worship and praise leader led them into idolatry. Wow! I think it’s happening today. I really do. I think the worship and praise movement is leading people further from the Bible.
And the Word of God is no longer exalted. A lot of the contemporary music is what I call 7-11. seven phrases repeated eleven times. Pretty fluffy, pretty light, no substance. I personally like the grand old hymns that have a message to say to all of us, the old rugged cross on a hill far away, stood an old rugged cross. And you know, it talked about how Christ died here for your sins in mind. What a great hymn. And that of course is our theme song here on Bible I’m blessed assurance.
This is my story. This is my song. This is the assurance that I have in Christ that I know I’m saved. I know I’m going to heaven all based upon what Christ did for me at the cross. Great great hymns, great great messages, but it’s all being lost today. And I think that we’re luring people in the church for the wrong reason. And they’re not there as soon as you begin to teach the word they walked away because that’s what they came for.
And I think today we’re seeing exactly what the Bible said would happen. Second Timothy 4 tells us that the churches in the last days of the church age would not endure sound doctrine, but they would have itching ears wanting their ears to be tickled. And that’s what we’re doing. We’re tickling people’s ears today. And the churches that are full are the ones that are becoming like the world in entertainment and are not preaching the Word. And the ones that are preaching the Word today are not the ones that are really prospering because the Society of the Day and the other churches are appealing to the flesh and to the five senses rather than to the heart of man in his spiritual needs.
So that’s my view and I hope that that might help you a little bit. Thank you, Deque, and I appreciate your call. That was about the modern day movement and attracting people into the church. Many have, it’s like an arcade with pinball machines and all kinds of things. When I was raised in church, that was forbidden. Our church told us those things were not spiritual at all. And today now they’re actually invited into the church to play those games that I thought was wrong as a little boy.
We have here Simon. In Chattanooga, Tennessee calls in with an offer of questions. He says, why don’t more people rightly divide the word like you? Well I wish I knew the answer to that. I think we have poor teaching today and it’s up to the pastors to lead the people to learn how to teach and to study God’s Word. I try to be a teacher and on the Bible and program I try to teach principles. You may not know I’m deliberately doing that but I teach you how to understand the Bible.
And as you say in your question, your studying dispensations has cleared up a lot for me. Please comment on Matthew 5 22-30. This appears to be written to me but not to Israel. Well in Matthew 5 you have the Sermon on the Mount and there of course Jesus is really talking to Israel but of course the principles are good for all time. But he’s telling us here that in order to enter heaven we have to be really as righteous as God.
I never heard this teaching until I got saved. But it says here about how we are to recognize that the law that was given from Mount Sinai, which is to bring us to faith, recognizing ourselves as sinners in the need of a Savior, It tells us here, for example, in this passage you’ve talked about, you have heard that it was said of them in old time, thou shalt not commit adultery. But I say unto you that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
So it’s talking here about, in John, for example, 1 John 5, chapter rather, 1 John 3 15 says if you’ve ever hated somebody you’ve committed murder in your heart and so any of these sins It’s saying here that in order to go to heaven you’d have to have Christ’s righteousness. And when you get down to the Bibleline in verse 48 it says, be there for perfect, even as your father which is in heaven is perfect. So in order to go to heaven you have to be as perfect as God.
None of us can by our works and by our deeds. Our works are filthy rags. But in Philippians 3-9 that we mentioned in the first half of the program, it says, Be found in Christ. Not having your own righteousness, which obviously would cause you to stand before God condemned, but having the righteousness, which is of God by faith. When you place your faith in Christ, God, the Holy Spirit, places you into Christ’s body. God looks down upon you and he doesn’t see your righteousness.
He sees the righteousness of Christ because you’re clothed with Christ, you’re in Christ, and therefore you’ll be able to be eligible in a heaven. This is why I recommend Simon the Scofield Reference Bible. The notes are geared to doctrine, and it certainly helps you understand how to rightly divide the word of truth. And it’s true that these passages in Matthew here, 5, 6, are the Sermon on the Mount, and there he speaks to Israel. And a lot of these folks were religious, but not saved.
And he tells them in verse 20, that except your righteousness exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you’ll not be able to have it. Well, those are the people that worked every day from the moment they got up to be perfect. If you had a Pharisee as a neighbor, they’d keep their lawnmower and they’d carry their garbage out. They would help you if you had a need. They would do all kinds of good works and good deeds. But Jesus is saying you have to be more righteous than those people to go to heaven.
And later we saw in verse 48 you have to be as righteous as God. That can only happen by trusting Christ as your Savior. Thank you Simon in Chattanooga, Tennessee and we’re on four times a day there. We’re on a 10 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon, 10 at night, and 4 a.m. in the morning. So the Chattanooga folks can hear us four hours a day in Chattanooga, it reaches Northern Alabama, Northern Georgia and all the area around Chattanooga.
We have Adam in Tampa, Florida. Adam, welcome to Bibleline your on the air. Yes, Dr. H. Can you explain first Peter chapter 1 verse 2 and just explain the foreknowledge of that. Sure. Aye, up and listen. Thank you. Adam. Adam in Tampa, Florida. Peter is very, very important here in this passage to note the order. And this is talking about the topic we begin with again today on predestination and election. And it tells us here who God has elected to go to heaven and whom he has not.
I’m almost there and as I turn in my Bible here, but we’re going to 1 Peter, chapter 1, we’re going to verse 2 where it says here, elect according to the foreknowledge of God. Stop. It’s very important to recognize it doesn’t say foreknown according to the election of God, but it says elect according to the foreknowledge of God. In other words, there are certain things that you and I know will happen because we’ve planned for them to happen. I might tell you that I’m going to go to the supermarket at 3.30 this afternoon because I’ve been planning all week to go to the supermarket at 3.30 this afternoon.
And so therefore I would know about that because I’ve already planned it out. But that’s not the way God works. It says here not foreknown according to his election. That would be the case if I was going to tell you I’m going to the supermarket at 3.30 I’ve been because I’ve already elected to do that before I ever go and therefore I foreknow it. But here it says, according to the foreknowledge of God, God foreknew the future and he foreknew that there would be those who would believe and not believe.
But he elected the same all that would believe and he didn’t do it because he made the choice in advance. But God doesn’t, well, God is not down by time. And so he lives in the past. He lives in the present, lives in the future. He’s already seen the future take place. And he has not made your choice. But based on the fact that he foreknows the future and knows that there will be those who will believe on Christ, he’s elected to save all those that would believe.
But he didn’t know who would believe because he elected it to be so. You have to just think about that a little bit and let it sink in. It’s kind of deep for some people, but it says here, elect according to the foreknowledge of God, it doesn’t say foreknown according to the election of God. And that would be the case, as I would tell you that I’m going to store it 330 to 7 dude, because I already elected to do that in advance and therefore I foredo it.
God has the ability to foreknow the future and he doesn’t make your choice, but he does know the choice you’re going to make. I sure hope that makes a little bit of sense. to you and we’re now going to go to Anonymous in Texas and Anonymous, welcome to Bible on Your On The Earth. Yes, good morning. I have a question about sexual immorality. Does that apply to both boys and girls as far as what scripture says about not having sex prior to marriage?
Yes. Okay. And number two, the cause of that conviction, that belief that a person should not have sex I’ve been told by another Christian that having that stance is ridiculous to stay in age because everybody’s doing it and actually to have that conviction is really not Christian because I’m placing myself on a different class system and that’s not showing the love of So, what could you respond to that? Let me recommend some good verses here. First Corinthians chapter 6 verses 15 through 20 and in chapter 7 in verse 1 and 2 it says now concerning the things where of your road unto me it is good for men not to touch a a woman.
This is talking about sexually. So it’s not just that you don’t shake hands with a woman, but it says it’s good for a man not to touch a woman that is sexually outside of marriage. Verse 2, nevertheless, to avoid fornication, and there you have it, let every man have his own wife and let every woman have her own husband. So it’s very clear here to avoid fornication or sexual contact before marriage, you need to go ahead and get married.
Verse 11 is a verse 9 is confused a lot of people because they don’t understand the context here. But it says here, if they cannot contain, that means they cannot contain their sexual passions, let them marry. for it’s better for them to marry than to burn. And this means about burning in hell. I saw about burning in lust for the opposite sex. So if you’re constantly lusting, the Bible says if they can’t contain themselves, let them get married. But they’re not to have sex outside of marriage.
And the previous chapter also says that God the Holy Spirit is in your body. And when you join yourself to someone outside of marriage, then that you’re actually involving Christ in that act and making him a part of your sin. It says in verse 14 of the previous chapter in verse 6, what may not that he which is joined to a harlot is one flesh, for to say that he shall be one flesh. So when you join yourself to a harlot, the Bible is saying that you and having Christ in your body are causing Christ to commit fordication with you.
The Bible says that we are to keep our bodies pure in verse 20 and to avoid fornication where to go ahead and get married to prevent that. I hope that helps a little bit. So the person who told me, well, but the church is full of people who have had sex prior to marriage and therefore, you know, it’s impossible for you to find someone that has not had said and that’s wrong. That’s not being Christ-like because it’s punishing someone for a stand that they pretended of.
Well, it doesn’t matter. The Bible teaches it and obviously there are consequences. Here’s the problem today is that if you marry somebody who’s had a lot of sexual relationships, you may be getting some STDs. There are a lot of those that are passed along today. That’s sexually transmitted diseases. You better have the other person checked out and you better do a thorough investigation about who you’re marrying because of the things that you can acquire when you do get married if you have sex with them.
Because basically there’s consequence. We have a wonderful book in our resource center here called None of These Diseases that talks about the effects upon you from sex that people have had in prior relationships. He said that not only is said or cited, but also affect your physical health that are related to previous sexual experiences. It’s kind of scary really. You really need to recognize that God knew what he was talking about and he did this for our benefit. So we need to know what the Bible has to say and I would recommend that book.
It’s a great book that has a lot of good advice for young people and teenagers about whoa what can happen if a person has been infected? per misgus prior to the marriage, you might be getting a lot of baggage that you didn’t think you were getting when you married that person. So, in a choice, claims in church, one who I know is according to God, I should choose the one. Well, the Bible recommends that you marry a virgin. Obviously, that’s what is hard to find nowadays, but yes.
There are, you really ought to read up on this, and obviously this book, Men of These Diseases, is very, very pufferin, my medical doctor. I think they’ve printed out a couple million copies. It’s very popular and really tells the story like it is. So let me encourage you to maybe get that book out in the book story called None of These Diseases, or We Have It Here, and our Bible and Resource So we can chimp it out to you today.
So when the person tells me I should remove the blank from my own eye before trying to remove from another, is that? I tell you, they need to believe the Bible. say, look, you’re going by what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches that very clearly. A priest in the Old Testament was disqualified for the priesthood if you married somebody that was not a virgin. That was required. In the Jewish family, the family before marriage would take place would have a mikfah.
It would be a ceremonial baptism where they would testify that their daughter was a virgin before the marriage. And obviously we have obviously become a sinful and adulterous generation just like Christ said it would be before he would come back and we’re about at the end where God is going to judge America and the world because of our permissuseness. So we’re there, we’re at the end. Okay, so I’m not wrong in my conviction. You’re not wrong at all. No, that other person is absolutely wrong and obviously they’re dragging other people down with them to just say, well, disregard the Bible because we’re living in a different time nowadays.
Does this person even said, well then, if a person had sex before marriage, then that means that they can only marry somebody that’s also had sex? No, it doesn’t mean that. But they basically need to be honest with the person who they’re going to marry because they might transmit things to them that the other person didn’t know they were going to get or they should disclose the whole history, I think, to the other person. We’ve got to run. Thank you for that call and we have run out of time.
